Blizzard wants DnD players to make its next game

Last month, Blizzard announced its plans to create a new survival game set in an "all-new universe". But it seems that's not the only unannounced project in the works at the studio. A new job listing suggests that a game based on an existing Blizzard IP is coming with some sort of inspiration from the world of Dungeons & Dragons and tabletop role-playing.

A listing for a lead content designer (spotted by the folks at ResetEra) looks for someone who can "champion a clear vision for mechanically and narratively interesting missions within an established Blizzard IP". The listing specifies that this is a new, unannounced game, though it does not specify a platform. (It's worth noting, however, that most mobile-focused job listings are called out as such on Blizzard's careers page.)

Notably, Blizzard is looking for someone with "experience creating and running pen and paper RPG campaigns, and/or live-action RPGs", as well as "a love of RPG games (tabletop or computer)". The listing calls out both single-player and shared-world design for these narrative quests, though there's no clear indication of what form they'd take, or how this project is being informed by a tabletop design ethos.

Oculus Quest 2 could soon get body tracking support

The Oculus Quest 2 is undoubtedly one of the best VR headsets on the market, but its tracking capabilities are limited to just head and hand movements. However, this could change in the near-future, following an update to Quest 2 developer documentation by Meta.

Changes made to Unity development resources for the Quest 2 included a screenshot of an Oculus SDK that contained a dropdown for 'Body Tracking Support'. We say 'included' as Meta quickly pulled the image, but not before UploadVR was able to grab a copy. It's unclear how body tracking could be implemented on the Quest 2, as the headset's downward facing cameras are unlikely to be up to the task.

This could be an indication that the company plans to introduce this functionality to its upcoming Project Cambria or Oculus Quest 3 headsets. Alternatively, Meta could be concocting its own competitors to the Vive Tracker 3.0, as part of its plans to dominate the metaverse and gaming VR space.

Final Fantasy 6 remaster release date leaked, then confirmed

Square Enix previously announced that the Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster would launch this February, and a more precise date leaked on the iOS App Store today - about one hour before the devs officially confirmed the date via a press release. Sadly for you Switch holdouts, it's still only confirmed for Steam and mobile. (Though it will be arriving in time for the Steam Deck release date.)

Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster launches for Steam, iOS, and Android on February 23. Similar to previous entries in the Pixel Remaster line, it'll feature updated graphics with widescreen support, a rearranged soundtrack overseen by Nobuo Uematsu, quality-of-life gameplay tweaks, and supplementary material like a bestiary, gallery, and music player.

Some early screenshots suggested that we'd see more substantial graphical updates in this remaster compared with the previous efforts, but it looks like that's limited to some key scenes. The store page shows a gentle 3D effect applied to the beloved opera scene, for example.

Genshin Impact events – all current and upcoming events

Want to know more about the upcoming Genshin Impact events? A new version of Genshin Impact arrives every six weeks, complete with new characters, quests, and events. It's difficult to keep track of which events are currently running and if there are any new ones coming soon, so here's a schedule for all current and upcoming Genshin Impact events.

Genshin Impact has a number of events running simultaneously, and they aren't just in-game events. When a new Genshin Impact character joins the game, the devs launch a web event at the same time - players learn about the latest characters through an interactive story told through a web browser. The rewards for completing different events range from in-game items like primogems and mora, to real life prizes like mouse mats and plushies.

Just like the Genshin Impact banners, most events are only available for a limited time, so it's worth participating as soon as you can. New events are usually added to Genshin Impact after an update, but it's worth keeping an eye out on this page as the devs do like to surprise the community.

How to get Lost Ark gold – tips and tricks

Want to know about gold in Lost Ark? Smilegate's new MMO is a free game, which means it's got its own array of different in-game currencies. Some can primarily be earned through in-game actions, while others are premium currencies that you pay for using real money. Lost Ark gold is somewhere between the two, and we've put together this guide to explain everything you need to know.

Lost Ark gold is mainly used as a currency that is traded between players, but it also feeds into some of the gear upgrading systems present in the game. It is one of the seven currencies that is currently shared between all characters on a player's account, and is a lot rarer than silver, the primary free in-game currency.

When you're trading gold between players, there is a tax that you need to pay. This is also the case when buying or selling things on the in-game auction house, which usually comes with a gold cost. Gold can also be used for things like furnishing a player's private house, or even converting it into premium currency like blue crystals.

Next Assassin's Creed leaks, is small and stealth-focused

After leaks, Ubisoft officially confirmed development on Assassin's Creed Infinity last year, an even more live service-focused take on the series that would build the concepts of post-Origins AC into an ongoing, evolving game. But that game is years away, and it seems Ubisoft wants to fill the gap with something smaller and more concise, according to multiple new reports.

This as-yet-unannounced new game began life as an expansion for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, according to reports from both Bloomberg and Eurogamer. It is now a standalone game, and will expand on the backstory of Valhalla's Basim - technically making this the first standalone Assassin's Creed game to star an actual assassin in nearly a decade.

"The game won't be a massive open-world role-playing game like previous recent entries, focusing instead more on stealth gameplay, and is planned for later this year or 2023," Bloomberg reports. Eurogamer likens it to one of the smaller map regions of Valhalla or Odyssey, and adds that it is expected to include the city of Baghdad.

     Vampire Survivors weapon evolution guide

Want to know how to evolve weapons in Vampire Survivors? This roguelite indie game is rapidly gaining in popularity, as players discover the sheer joy of walking around a forest or library, slaying an ever-growing encroaching horde of monsters that just want to be very close to you.

It's a relatively simple game to play, but mastering it and unlocking Vampire Survivors characters can get a little tricky if you don't spec into the correct build from the start. To evolve an item in Vampire Survivors, you must first level up a weapon to its maximum level, collect its linked item when it appears on the level up screen, then kill a boss monster and open the chest it leaves behind. Unfortunately, you only have a few slots for weapons and items, so you must choose carefully.

The items that synergise well with a weapon aren't necessarily the items you need to evolve them, so while you'll want to pick up the candelabrador if you have the garlic weapon, you also need a pummarola to power it up. To help you figure out which items to keep, we've put together a list of all the possible Vampire Survivors weapon evolutions and which items you need to pick up when you level up.

How to unlock secret characters in Vampire Survivors

Want to know how to unlock secret characters in Vampire Survivors? When you start your first run you only have a handful of characters and a few weapons available. However, on each playthrough, more items, weapons, and characters unlock for you to use in future attempts.

These items are vital if you wish to use Vampire Survivor weapon evolutions to maximise a weapon's damage output. The game also locks new characters behind requirements, such as leveling up your gear to a certain threshold, finding items in a level, or slaying a quota of monsters.

Some of these unlock conditions are somewhat vague, so we thought we'd list how you can get all of the Vampire Survivors characters, weapons, items, and levels. We also have a cheat code that you need to type to get another hidden vampire slayer and steps to access a secret character that requires you to tinker with the game's code.

Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 2 release date – everything we know

Want to know more about Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 2? Although Vanguard and Warzone Pacific had a strong start, the first season of content couldn't match up to the community's expectations. Powerful weapons were added to both games, including the Cooper Carbine and Welgun, but the highly requested balance changes didn't arrive until the 1.5 mid-season update.

Warzone Pacific's Vanguard Royale mode only uses weapons from the WW2 game, so new guns usually shake up the meta in a big way. The battle royale game has a number of issues right now, prompting the developers to apologise for the number of bugs on Twitter. Call of Duty seasons usually contain plenty of bug fixes, so there's a good chance a lot of the glaring issues are dealt with when Season 2 launches.

On top of all of that content, there's even a new Dark Aether hub world coming to the game based in Egypt. Here's everything you need to know about Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 2.

Where you can use different Fortnite ziplines in a single match

Want to know where the best place is to complete the Fortnite challenge to use different ziplines in a single match? Ziplines have been around in Fortnite for quite some time, and one of the season tasks this week asks you to find and ride a few of them.

On paper, it's a straightforward task, but there is a way to finish it within a few seconds of landing on the island, leaving you more time to complete the other challenges for this week. Thankfully, they're also relatively easy, requiring you to perform simple tasks like catching a gun while fishing or destroying mailboxes at Sleepy Sound or Tilted Towers. However, if you missed the story challenge that appeared recently, you can catch up with our Fortnite Mole drill team guide to learn how to salvage electronic parts.

To complete this season challenge, you need to ride three ziplines in a single match. There are many places on the map where you can find them, but there is one place with a high concentration of them so that you can complete this challenge quickly.

Fall face-first into the Steam Deck with this gaming cushion

The Steam Deck is supposed to be an on-the-go PC, but thanks to a new gaming cushion, you'll be able to play on Valve's portable while faceplanting the floor. Spotted by Gizmodo Japan, the Lying Face Down Sleep Cushion Z is a cross between a car seat and a deck chair, and it could make our lazy gaming dreams a reality.

Developed by the Japanese company Thanko, the Cushion Z almost functions like a massage table, supporting the neck and torso. By placing your head between two cushions, you can abandon the need to hold yourself upright while still clutching onto your favourite gadgets.

Of course, you don't have to strike yoga positions to use the Cushion Z, as it also functions as a floor seat. While most gamers would probably kick back on a conventional chair, opting to chill out on the floor could help you get away from your gaming desk, especially if working from home is now an everyday occurrence.

The best Lost Ark classes for PvP and PvE

Wondering which Lost Ark class to choose? Smilegate's isometric MMO game, originally available in Asia, is finally set to release in the West published by Amazon Games. Lost Ark has proved immensely popular among ARPG fans for its simple to learn, difficult to master gameplay, and has been praised for the developers' focus on incorporating player feedback and carefully balancing content and classes accordingly.

All Lost Ark classes are designed to be viable and the game frequently receives balance patches, so the meta is constantly evolving. Because of this, a Lost Ark tier list would be tricky to put together as the classes that are most impactful depend on the experience of the players you're up against or playing alongside.

Fortunately, creating alts is easy, so you're able to try multiple classes before committing to one; you don't have to pick a 'main' until you reach T3 (third expansion) content. It's also important to note that Lost Ark advanced classes are gender locked, so if your avatar gender is important to you, that influences your choice of class. To help you decide where to start, we've put together a guide on the best Lost Ark classes for different playstyles and how they fare in PvP and PvE.

Microsoft is finally updating taskbar overflow in Windows 11

In the four months since Windows 11's release, the OS has received multiple bug fixes and features. However, there's still plenty of work to be done in polishing it up to run its best, and it looks like Microsoft is due to address a long-standing issue with Windows' taskbar.

While exploring a pre-release build of Windows 11 Pro, Twitter user thebookisclosed spotted that Microsoft is changing how the taskbar handles program overflow. Currently, when more applications are open than the taskbar has room for, they are relegated to a single slot with no means of easily selecting them individually. Now, users will be able to cycle through everything in the overflow via a clickable flyout (pictured below.)

This will undoubtedly assist casual and power users alike in managing multiple apps, particularly on lower-resolution displays that leave less room for the taskbar However, we'd sooner encourage running as few programs as possible to maximise your system's performance.

While the PvP servers for Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3 have been temporarily deactivated on PC following an alleged remote code execution vulnerability issue, the launch plans for Elden Ring remain unchanged.

From Software and Bandai Namco have confirmed that Elden Ring will still release on February 25 following an investigation into the upcoming PC game, and that multiplayer for the suite of Dark Souls games on PC will remain offline until after Elden Ring's launch.

"Bandai Namco and From Software are aware of the technical difficulties players have experienced with the Dark Souls suite of games on PC," a statement on Twitter reads. "We want to thank the entire Dark Souls community and the players who have reached out to us directly to voice their concerns and offer solutions. Thanks to you, we have identified the cause and are working on fixing the issue. In addition, we have extended the investigation to Elden Ring - our upcoming title launching on February 25 - and have made sure the necessary security measures are in place for this title on all target platforms."

But the series has seemingly petered out and now they're preparing to end support for the latest, America's Army: Proving Grounds. Lost Ark is a new free-to-play MMORPG that is notable because a) it is a hack 'n' slash grind that makes it a bit like a free version of Diablo, b) I have no idea what is happening at any given point in time while playing it, instead drowning in a soup made of words like 'destiny', and c) the player characters look like they work at a sex dungeon. Specifically work at, rather than participate in. They serve drinks and clean wipe-down sofas for minimum wage, and they don't particularly want to be wearing a latex catsuit, but here we are.

For example, I'm pretty sure my gunslinger character works at a steampunk cowboy themed erotique parlour. I actually quite enjoy her attack style, a sort of hyper-aggressive DPS that allows her to switch between three different gun stances (pistols, shotgun and rifle). The dual pistols in particular come with a load of crowd-control AOE attacks like explosions and spinning bullets firing smaller bullets, or something. And while there is some kind of story involving demons and a war and bits of stone (something something destiny), my gunslinger's quest is, currently, the single-minded pursuit of a pair of trousers.

Pokemon Avatars Show off Sword & Shield Gym Leaders, Trainers

Pokemon fans can deck their social media profiles out with select gym leaders and rivals, thanks to a promotional campaign by the Pokémon Center Japan's official Twitter account. It commemorated the release of the Pokemon gym leaders and trainers mascot plush line, a series of dolls based on characters from Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The avatar release was based on raising the number of followers for the Pokémon Center account. Once the target number was reached, the account uploaded a set of Pokemon avatars for everyone.

https://twitter.com/pokemoncenterPR/status/1490973683984199681

In total, there are eleven Pokemon avatars to use. They're based on chibi versions of Galar League trainers and gym leaders Bede, Marnie, Milo, Nessa, Allister, Bea, Gordie, Melony, Raihan, Kabu, and Champion Dande. The icons feature the Japanese names of the trainers.

[gallery columns="6" link="file" ids="915622,915623,915624,915625,915626,915627,915628,915629,915630,915631,915632"]

Missing from the slate of Pokemon avatars are Ballonlea Fairy Badge leader Opal and Spikemuth Dark Badge leader Piers. The two are also absent from the line of plush dolls, though no reason was given for their exclusion. Some of the Galar League gym leaders are exclusive to different versions of the game. For example, Pokemon Sword owners encounter Bea, while Shield owners encounter Allister. Gordie and Melony are also version-exclusive, between Sword and Shield, respectively. Nessa, Kabu, Raihan, Marnie, Milo, and Dande are found in both versions of the game.

As for the Pokemon Trainers Mascot dolls the avatars are based on, the Sword and Shield trainers and gym leaders are available from the Japanese Pokemon Center online store for about 1,650 Yen each (about $15 USD).

Pokémon Sword and Shield are available on the Nintendo Switch. The latest Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends Arceus, released to massive sales in its first week.

Tales of Luminaria Multiplayer Boss Battle Getting Nightmare Difficulty

The 1.2.1 Tales of Luminaria update is here and the multiplayer boss battles will look different as a result. A number of changes appeared in the patch. Among them are changes that alter how someone can play in those challenges and what they'll get. Most notably, the Easy difficulty is being removed. Nightmare is being moved in to the new gap. The sorts of reward equipment and number of event points someone can earn changed too.

The changes to Tales of Luminaria multiplayer boss battle mean things will look and play a bit different. The announcement noted that with the removal of Easy, Normal will be the new difficulty allowing everyone in. As for Nightmare, your Power level must be at least 10,000 to participate. With rewards, people playing on Hard could get one piece of equipment. Those on Extreme or Nightmare could get two pieces, with each one guaranteed to be different. Finally, you can get up to 1,000.000 event points, rather than only 500,000.

Other changes went into effect with the 1.2.1 Tales of Luminaria update too. There are now control guides that go over how you perform attacks. People can find these when they check the character screen, pause, or look under help. Artes swapping will be a bit easier, as it will let you go between old and new and slots. Also, Ana-Maria's second episode is out today.

Tales of Luminaria is available on Android and Apple iOS devices. The anime can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Funimation.

App Store Lists February FFVI Pixel Remaster Release Date

The next Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster release date slipped out ahead of the official announcement for FFVI. The App Store page for FFVI listed one. If someone visited the product page on an iOS device, the listing shows a release date under the pre-order notice. However, the date was one day off. Square Enix announced shortly after that it would appear on February 23, 2022.

As a reminder, we already had an idea this would happen.. Initially, all Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster titles were supposed to appear in 2021, but FFVI release date ended up pushed back. Square Enix cited a desire to ensure its quality. It mentioned the new release window would be February 2022.

As with all installments in this series, FFVI gets updated pixel art and a rearranged soundtrack. People can also look through a bestiary, concept art, and a music player from its main menu. On Android and Apple iOS devices, touch screen controls are available.

People who pre-order or buy the bundle on Steam will get certain songs as well. Here's a list of the tracks included. They'll be packed in along with four wallpapers.

  • Aria di Mezzo Carattere (Instrumental)

Intertwined Fates Being Sent to Genshin Impact Players

A glitch means every Genshin Impact player is about to get an extra Intertwined Fate. Though, in some cases, people might already have gotten two instead of one. What happened is the Flowing Lights and Colors went out twice to some people, netting double the rewards. As a result, everyone will be getting the second reward as of February 9, 2022.

Here's what happened. As certain events are drawing to a close, miHoYo will sometimes send out gives via in-game mail. In the case of the Fleeting Colors in Flight Lantern Rite, Genshin Impact players were supposed to get one Intertwined Fate and some other items. The error caused some to get double the amount. To rectify the situation, everyone who didn't get twice as many rewards will get extra items. That will include the item to pull on the banner, the Golden Crab food item, and the Sanctifying Unction used to level up artifacts.

As a reminder, the Intertwined Fate item is used in Genshin Impact to pull on the limited character and weapon banners. The 2022 Lantern Rite also included login rewards that gave people 10 Intertwined Fates for showing up. So someone could use these on the Ganyu and Zhongli rerun banners.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. It is also in development for the Nintendo Switch. The Fleeting Colors in Flight Lantern Rite will be held in Genshin Impact until February 12, 2022, though someone can spend event currency in the designated shop until February 14, 2022.

New Scarlet Nexus DLC 3 Includes Episode Karen

Another Scarlet Nexus add-on is here, as the Brain Eater Pack DLC 3 makes its debut on February 9, 2022. This paid addition offers experiences and additional looks. In particular, there's another side of the story to see. With Episode Karen, people can learn what OSF 2nd Regiment Commander Karen Travers went through before the events of the game.

There's a trailer going through everything appearing in Scarlet Nexus DLC 3. Some of it will be spoilers for events of the main game, so it might not be wise to watch if you haven't finished at least one storyline. The video begins by teasing how Scarlet Nexus Episode Karen will go. At the 25 second mark, it offers a peek at the "Shadow on the Recording" anime tie-in mission. Once the 46 second point rolls around, the Guardian Attire and Heir Attire costumes show up.

While this is a paid addition, there's a free one too. It showed up at the end of the new trailer. February 2022 also marked the debut of the Scarlet Nexus 1.07 patch. That included two new features. One is a Very Hard difficulty level to ramp up the challenge. The other is a photo mode.

Scarlet Nexus is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Brain Eater Pack DLC 3 is out too.

DDLC Monika Nendoroid Pre-order Phase Will Begin on Valentine's Day

It will still be a while before the Monika Nendoroid heads into homes, but soon someone can place a pre-order for the DDLC star. Good Smile Company announced it will begin selling the figure on February 14, 2022. There's also a video showing her off.

This marks the first time the painted version of the Monika Nendoroid appeared. When Good Smile Company announced her in July 2021, it only showed concept art. The unpainted prototype appeared in December 2021.

There's no price for the Valentine's Day pre-orders yet. The company also didn't note when the Nendoroid will release. However, we can get an idea based on other recent releases. For example, the Shirakami Fubuki Hololive Vtuber Nendoroid pre-orders opened on February 8, 2022, and she's expected to ship in August 2022 in Japan and October 2022 in North America. This means there is about a six-month gap between pre-orders and shipments to Japan and eight months for North America.

Doki Doki Literature Club is available on PCs, while DDLC Plus is out on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. People can place a pre-order for the Monika Nendoroid on February 14, 2022.

Dark Souls Online Servers Won't Return Until After Elden Ring Launch

Back on January 23, 2022, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware deactivated the Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3 online servers due to a security exploit. Now, there's an update on the situation. The companies are working to set things right. However, a fix won't be available until after the Elden Ring launch. There will also be a more detailed schedule released ahead of their return.

Here's the full message. It noted that FromSoftware and Bandai Namco also investigated Elden Ring too. The goal is to ensure all four games are safe once fixes are in place.

Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware are aware of the technical difficulties players have experienced with the Dark Souls suite of games on PC.

We want to thank the entire Dark Souls community and the players who have reached out to us directly to voice their concerns and offer solutions. Thanks to you, we have identified the cause and are working on fixing the issue.

In addition, we have extended the investigation to Elden Ring — our upcoming title launching on February 25th — and have made sure the necessary security measures are in place for this title on all target platforms.

Due to the time required to set up proper testing environments, online services for the Dark Souls series on PC will not resume until after the release of Elden Ring. We will continue to do everything we can to bring back these services as soon as possible.

We will make an announcement as soon as the schedule is determined for resuming online services. Please stay tuned to the Dark Souls social media channels for updates.

Once again, please allow us to share our thanks to you, our passionate community.

The online services shutdown affected the servers for four versions of Dark Souls games: Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3. Service will resume sometime after Elden Ring's launch on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on February 25, 2022.

NieR Automata 5th Anniversary

The 5th anniversary of NieR: Automata will fall on February 23, 2022. Square Enix will mark this milestone by holding a special livestream at 18:00 JST (4 AM ET). The stream will be available in Japanese on Niconico Live.

The series creator Yoko Taro, producer Yosuke Saito, composer Keiichi Okabe, and PlatinumGames' Takahisa Taura will attend the celebration stream. The key staff members of NieR: Automata will hold a casual talk show reminiscing on the past five years. In the stream description, Square Enix also teased that there may be announcements of new information.

Like most other livestreams for Japanese games, the NieR: Automata 5th Anniversary stream will have giveaways of presents for residents of Japan. It will also have an extra talk show segment available exclusively to Niconico Premium paid accounts. The extra segment will include a Q&A session where users can send questions to the key staff members mentioned above. Square Enix and Niconico are accepting question submissions until February 20, 2022.

NieR: Automata came out first for PlayStation 4 in Japan on February 23, 2017. Square Enix later released it worldwide, with PC and Xbox One as additional platforms. The game's global cumulative sales on all platforms surpassed 5.5 million units as of its fourth anniversary on February 23, 2021.

Egglia Rebirth

Egglia Rebirth is a surprisingly dense game. The more I played, the more things began to fall into place. What I initially felt was just a mobile title ported to the Nintendo Switch quickly became a more in-depth and interesting turn-based RPG. While there are some of the signature marks of a game originally released for mobile devices, the quality of the gameplay genuinely surprised me. Gacha mechanics are present, but mostly in the form of recruiting Spirits. (These are the helpful creatures that can assist you in battle.) There are, of course, features that require a bit of patience as well.

For example, players can collect rare materials to level up or evolve their Spirits through plant and rock cultivation. However, obtaining these items takes time. Quite literally. You will need to wait for a certain amount of real-world time to pass after planting your rocks and various root vegetables. Sometimes it can take upwards of two hours to yield a harvest, which is mostly fine.

Egglia Rebirth is a game that encourages you to pick it up and play at your leisure. It was hard to accept that, especially since the kinds of mobile games I've played in the past don't reward players for putting the game down for extended periods of time. After accepting that, I could just walk away from the game for a bit and come back to it later. Which meant I felt a lot better about Egglia Rebirth. Speed-up items are available, but I never felt inclined to use them for this reason.

Egglia Rebirth

It reminded me that productivity doesn't always mean that you have to be active. Which is something I generally don't expect from video games. Especially when you have something that was originally intended for mobile devices suddenly appear on a console. At worst, I expected Egglia Rebirth to have some sort of baked-in monetization. But considering the game was purchase-to-play on Android and iOS devices, I was pleasantly surprised it didn't. Instead, players are tasked with grinding out materials to summon Spirits, expand their village, or to fulfill villager requests.

All of these tasks seem simple enough, but are fairly layered. By expanding your village, or rather improving the quality of life for your residence, the player character becomes more powerful. Players can do this by accepting quests from the individual villagers you will recruit through story progression. Sometimes they'll be looking for an item you can obtain through specific maps, or maybe they want you to upgrade their house. In some cases, they will also ask for furniture. This gives players a lot to do, as grinding out materials to fulfill these requests can sometimes take longer than expected. That is largely due to the randomness of acquiring materials in vast quantities.

However, players can increase their chances of receiving certain types of materials by taking certain villagers onto the field with them. They more or less play a passive role as you explore, harvest, and take down enemies through the various maps. For example, taking Brown will yield a chance to receive more than a handful of different types of materials. Bringing a villager like the ore-eating Paru increases the chance to receive various ores during an excursion. Players will also need to keep in mind how much energy each of these guest characters expend. Don't worry though. The characters will definitely let you know when they're tired, as they will almost always be talking during a mission. And while players will have access to a shop that will unlock through story progression, gathering materials yourself is a better method.

Egglia Rebirth

Gameplay is relegated divided between fulfilling villager requests, and taking to the field and clearing out areas. What surprised me most about Egglia Rebirth was its combat system. Players navigate maps through a grid-based system. Movement is reliant on dice rolls. While it adds a certain level of randomness to it and makes Egglia Rebirth feel somewhat unique, this system can be a chore. If you are stuck with small dice rolls, sometimes completing a map can take longer than necessary. And maps must be completed within a certain amount of turns. This means that you will sometimes need to revisit areas to gain all completion rewards. That said, harder versions of these maps become available once you finish them. The difficulty really ramps up in these harder maps.

I found myself needing to grind before taking on a harder version of an earlier map. Which felt somewhat frustrating, since I would need to allocate time elsewhere to actually gain the stats to progress and harvest materials I needed to complete villager requests. It wasn't something that ultimately stopped me from progressing, but it definitely had me put the game down quite a few times. Which ultimately wasn't a detriment, since the passive mechanics in the game rewarded me for coming back when I felt like continuing.

The visuals and music in Egglia Rebirth are also quite nice. The character designs are interesting and provide a kind of flavor that I haven't seen in most modern JRPGs in quite some time. They're not afraid to be bold and sometimes ugly. Which I really appreciate, as it creates an interesting kind of variety. The music, while fairly limited in terms of selection, is also very pleasant. The only song I ended up growing tired of was the main hub theme. As it would start a new loop after every cutscene or when entering and leaving certain areas.

Egglia Rebirth

However, one thing I felt Egglia Rebirth lacked were general quality of life features. While players can look at items they need for crafting materials or requests, these are sometimes buried deep in menus. Not to mention the game lacks a proper skip function. This means players cannot skip cutscenes, which I felt was somewhat irksome.

Ultimately, Egglia Rebirth is a really fun game. It feels more like an indie JRPG than it does a mobile tile, which works in the Switch version's favor. Players who spend a lot of time with it will potentially feel rewarded by its systems. Though, if you're someone who wants to make the most out of their time, you might feel frustrated with how slow the game can be sometimes. That said, it's an interesting title that feels standout in comparison to most modern releases. Overall, Egglia Rebirth is a game that rewards players with patience, and will surprise some with its layered mechanics.

Egglia Rebirth will release in North America and Europe for Nintendo Switch on February 10, 2022. It is immediately available in Japan.

Final Fantasy Vi Pixel Remaster February Release DateSquare Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster will release via Steam on February 23. Similar to most of the other pixel remastered Final Fantasy games, it is retailing at $17.99 USD. However, those that pre-purchase will get it at 20% off for just $14.39 USD. This is a remaster of the original 1994 title that originally released exclusively for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Back then it was called Final Fantasy III in North America, as the original Final Fantasy II, III, and V were only released in Japan. The previous five installments have already been given the remaster treatment and are available on Steam as part of the Final Fantasy I-VI Bundle.   It isn't just fresh visuals that come with this remaster. Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster also comes with a rearranged soundtrack that remains faithful to the series and had composer Nobuo Uematsu overseeing it. Furthermore, several gameplay aspects, such as the user interface and auto-battle options,...

Dark Souls servers bonfireThe Dark Souls franchise remains one of the most popular and influential series to have come out within the 2010s. This does not mean that developer From Software designed these games perfectly, however. In fact, recent news surfaced regarding a serious security vulnerability in Dark Souls III that allows hackers to install malware and take control of players' PCs. According to a VGC report, similar security issues exist in the first two Dark Souls games. A community member even suggested these issues could crop up in the upcoming Elden Ring as well. This news led to Bandai Namco and From Software shutting down the servers for all the Dark Souls games for PC. And now, they've announced that the servers will only go back up after the release of Elden Ring. Bandai Namco and From Software relayed this update on the official Dark Souls Twitter account. The statement reassured players that both companies know about the Dark Souls games' security issues and thanked playe...

The Wolf Among Us 2 Trailer Release 2023I always felt Bigby Wolf, the protagonist of The Wolf Among Us, could use some anger therapy. That's pretty much where we see him today in the new trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2. He's sitting in a circle of fold-out chairs, talking about the time he went toe to toe with characters from The Wizard of Oz. It didn't go well, and he got a bit upset. His retelling of the events ends early, so we won't know for sure what happened until the game launches in 2023. We were, of course, promised a new trailer earlier this week. Today, Geoff Keighley joined developer Telltale Games in a live stream to show off the first trailer we've seen in a long time for The Wolf Among Us 2. The first we saw of the project was with a brief teaser shown at The Game Awards 2019. The shuttering of Telltale Games in 2018 was still fresh at the time. However, the studio was revived by AdHoc Studio in order to continue making new games and revive IPs once thought lost. Not everyone w...

Breakout Recharged Worth It 1When it comes to pulling together some quick cash, there's worse ways than pumping out revised versions of classics. Hot on the heels of other Atari games, Breakout: Recharged is coming at you fast for just $9.99 USD. Brick breaker games are some of my favorites, so it's always nice to get a new one. If you're fond of the genre, this package can certainly offer you some enjoyment, as it delivers on the classic gameplay that's endured for decades. But the question stands: is Breakout: Recharged worth it, or should you be looking at other brick breakers? Of course, Breakout was the original brick breaker. Designed by Apple's co-founder, Steve Wozniak, it dates back to 1976. Breakout: Recharged is the most recent game to receive Atari's attention. As it is, it's pretty barebones. But it's also Breakout, so that's not too surprising. The game comes with arcade modes and a set of challenges, which will easily net you a few hours of pl...

Rise Of The Third Power Review FeatI've never lived through the SNES era of games, so I'm not one to say whether or not people may have some misplaced nostalgia. But games inspired by this generation of gaming are making a comeback. And I'm always glad to enjoy a nice 2D game with charming pixel art. From the surface, Rise of the Third Power looks like a fun and energetic RPG, inspired by games of its ilk like Final Fantasy. But the game makes too many efforts to streamline some of its mechanics, leaving it feeling somewhat empty and tedious to trudge through. There's a difference between quality of life and stripping a game of its potential, and Rise of the Third Power often deflates into the latter. But that's a negative opening statement about a game that's built with so much passion. Developer Stegosoft Games created a game with a shiny core full of potential. But this potential is squandered in different aspects, with many decisions that ultimately feel like calculated risks w...
