PCGamesN Wednesday, April 13, 2022 7:51 AM A new in-game Core Keeper event has kicked off, the first since the building game launched to much acclaim last month - and it's a seasonal Easter egg hunt. More specifically, it's about the quest to build a Golden Egg in the sandbox game, then display it and discover the mysterious secret behind it. Indie game Core Keeper has proven a hit on Steam, reaching half a million players in just a couple of weeks, and the team at Pugstorm is currently working on the first major Core Keeper content update. However, the developer has a different surprise for players today - the first in-game event, which is available now. With the Easter weekend coming up, it's a seasonal event too - "The Great Egg Hunt" as Pugstorm is calling it. This runs from now until April 19 and requires players to hunt down hidden eggs around the world, which can then be used to craft a large Golden Egg that can be permanently displayed within their base. PCGamesN Wednesday, April 13, 2022 7:23 AM Steam Deck external GPU connectivity is now a thing, thanks to the creative efforts of tech YouTube channel ETA Prime. Pairing Valve's portable powerhouse with one of the best graphics cards comes with a multitude of caveats, but the unconventional project could help fuel our imagination when it comes to potential Steam Deck 2 features. Valve's handheld is inherently limited in terms of Steam Deck external GPU connectivity, as its USB-C connector isn't Thunderbolt compatible. To get around this, ETA Prime uses an M.2 to PCIe 3.0 to hook up a graphics card to the Deck's internal SSD connector. Sadly, the tech tinkerer didn't have much luck using Nvidia GPUs, but the AMD Radeon RX 6900XT seemingly plays nice with the portable. While the adapter features two 8-pin power connectors, the YouTuber also connects a full power supply directly to the ravenous Radeon card. Since the Steam Deck's M.2 connector is now reserved for GPU connectivity, ETA Prime uses the MicroSD card slot to boot Windows 11 on the janky setup, magically transforming the handheld into a conventional, but messy desktop gaming PC. PCGamesN Wednesday, April 13, 2022 6:24 AM The new Vampire Survivors 0.5 patch notes are here along with the big new update for the roguelike game, which - as developer Poncle previously confirmed - is headlined by the inclusion of Arcana power-ups that can completely change the game. Also, cats. Lots of cats. With the vampire game now at the halfway point, the big new Vampire Survivors Arcana update adds the long-promised "major new gameplay mechanic", which Poncle now reveals as power-ups. By finding the Randomazzo in Stage 4, players can unlock up to six major Arcana buffs - including the likes of critical attacks, improved healing, and even mid-match revivals. Poncle describes this update as "the real Early Access content", as the introduction of Arcanas is apparently "largely untested due to the large amount of interactions it could have". The developer assumes there will be "major changes" to this mechanic in future updates, but hopes players will still "have fun finding new ways to break the game and reach 1 fps again". |
PCGamesN Wednesday, April 13, 2022 6:17 AM AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D reviews have hit the internet well before next week's launch, giving us our first in-depth look at team red's new Zen 3 chip boasting 3D V-Cache technology. Both TechPowerUp and XanxoGaming have put team red's potentially best gaming CPU through numerous gaming PC benchmarks, and it seems the chip can handily hold its own against the likes of Intel Core i9-12900KS. Paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, TechPowerUp found that the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D "reaches parity with Alder Lake" processors such as the Intel Core i9-12900KS in gaming performance. Unfortunately, team red's CPU seemed to fall behind in Cinebench R23 as well as other more production-oriented applications compared to its 12th Gen competition. XanxoGaming's findings echo these sentiments, saying "most games will see ties comparing Ryzen 7 5800X3D versus 12900K" but it believes Intel could have an edge when using DDR5 gaming RAM. However, as XanxoGaming highlights, "DDR5 still has a high premium", so the new AMD chip could be the better value buy in the short-term, especially for those who already invested in the AM4 platform. PCGamesN Wednesday, April 13, 2022 6:28 AM So you want to know about the Floral Courtyard event in Genshin Impact? This new Genshin Impact event is part of the Hues of the Violet Garden chain in Genshin Impact 2.6. The 'Magnificent Irodori festival' is a series of four minigames, and the Floral Courtyard flower-arranging puzzle is the fourth and final one. For the Floral Courtyard event, you essentially have to arrange flowers in a flower pot for the florist Fushizome. There are several themes, but only one is released each day. Each theme comes with several hints to help you arrange the flowers correctly, with more hints being unveiled over time. You're looking to get not only the right combination of flowers and decorations, but also make sure the flowers are arranged at the correct height as well. After completing a specific arrangement, players may keep their creation and place it in their Serenitea Pot. The first theme released on April 11, and there will be one each day until April 14. Check out our guide below for everything you need to know to complete the Genshin Impact Floral Courtyard event. PCGamesN Wednesday, April 13, 2022 7:20 AM Genshin Impact banners adhere to a pretty regular schedule. Each update arrives with a new banner that lasts around three weeks, and after it expires, it's followed by a second banner which also lasts roughly three weeks, at which point it's update time once again. Wondering what the next Genshin Impact banner is? Even though we hear rumours of new Genshin Impact characters arriving in forthcoming updates, we won't know their exact release date until we know which banner they will be a part of, and whether it'll be the first or second banner in the update. Occasionally, banners don't stick to this schedule - most notably, update 1.3 had three two-week banners, so that Hu Tao's banner didn't cross over with the Chinese New Year. Typically, each limited character banner - or Event Wish - contains a five-star character, and three four-star characters. There's also a Weapon banner - Epitome Invocation - which runs alongside each character banner, and features different weapons each time. Here's everything you need to know about the current and upcoming Genshin Impact banners. PCGamesN Wednesday, April 13, 2022 6:09 AM League of Legends patch 12.7 notes are here, folks. PCGamesN Wednesday, April 13, 2022 5:04 AM Want to know what this week's Destiny 2 Nightfall weapon is? Each week you've got a chance at a different weapon for completing Nightfall Strikes, and ever since Season of the Lost, fan-favourite legacy weapons from the original Destiny have been added to the rotation. Two new weapons were introduced into the pool in Season of the Risen, so it's more important than ever to know in advance the Nightfall weapon schedule. In case you don't know what the Destiny 2 Nightfall weapon means, Nightfall: The Ordeal is a playlist available in the Vanguard menu, alongside the basic Strike playlist. Each week, a different Strike is chosen as the Nightfall, and offered in five escalating difficulties, with harder enemies, challenging modifiers, and enemy power levels cranking up. The coveted Nightfall weapons have a chance to drop from any Nightfall Strike difficulty, but it's far more likely at higher levels. Your best bet for farming each week's Nightfall weapon is to set the Strike to Master difficulty, according to YouTuber Aztecross. You should also note that there's no automatic matchmaking above Hero difficulty, however, so you'll need to get a squad together. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, April 13, 2022 6:55 AM Even with PC hardware orthodoxy supporting SSD replacement, I'm convinced that getting one of the best microSD cards for the Steam Deck is the wiser method of expanding its storage. It's technically possible to swap in a bigger SSD, sure, but compatible M.2 2230 drives are much harder to find than the standard 2280 drives on our best gaming SSDs list – and based on my testing, a good microSD card can be just about as fast as the Deck's preinstalled SSD. That's on top of microSD cards being cheaper, easier to install, easier to remove, and available with much more choice than Steam Deck-compatible SSDs. That's not to say that any old card will work – Valve's handheld PC specifically supports UHS-1 microSD cards – but I've found and tested a few that will do the job, and do it well. |
