Kotaku Thursday, May 5, 2022 9:15 PM The Metroid series took a little nap during the N64 era, with Nintendo unable/unwilling to release a single home console game between the success of the SNES' Super Metroid in 1994 and the GameCube's Metroid Prime in 2002. So a fan is stepping in—and back in time—to make one for themselves. |

PCGamesN Thursday, May 5, 2022 6:55 PM Blizzard has patched one of World of Warcraft's more annoying achievements to make grinding for the Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake mount easier. Now's your time to shine if you've been putting off grinding for the big ol' pink dragon because you don't like PvP. Blizzard explains in a post on World of Warcraft's forums that the School of Hard Knocks requirement for the Children's Week achievement For the Children has been removed. The achievement still exists, though you don't need to complete it anymore if you want to get the Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake mount. School of Hard Knocks tasks you with summoning an orphan during the May event and completing several battleground challenges like capturing the flag in Eye of the Storm, assaulting a tower in Alterac Valley, and more. Looking at the MMORPG's subreddit will swiftly tell you that it wasn't everyone's favourite achievement. Some don't like PvP, while others report facing queue times of up-to-six hours to play. PCGamesN Thursday, May 5, 2022 6:07 PM The first Overwatch 2 patch is live, making adjustments to some of the best – and worst – performing Heroes. Essentially, it's good news if you like Roadhog, and even better news if you like everyone's favourite monk Zenyatta. Chief among the Hero changes is Zenyatta's new kick attack. It's officially called Snap Kick, but the Overwatch community instantly dubbed it the 'Zen Boop' while experimenting to see just how far the healer can now kick other heroes. The answer is pretty darn far, leading some to predict a nerf in the next patch. Snap Kick makes up for Zenyatta's close-range failings by letting him push enemies back and increasing the healer's quick melee damage by 50%. It makes the murderous monk more well-rounded while fulfilling a previous promise Blizzard made. In an earlier blog post, the dev team said they planned on experimenting with new abilities for existing support heroes to make playing as them more fun, while giving them a fighting chance in PvP as well. PCGamesN Thursday, May 5, 2022 4:58 PM The League of Legends patch 12.9 notes are starting to make their way onto the Public Beta Environment (PBE). While LoL patch 12.8 has just gone live, we already have a good idea of what Riot Games is working on next for the popular MOBA game. While you wait for new content to populate the PBE, you've got plenty to check out in League of Legends' latest patch. Riot has overhauled Swain's kit to make him a more attractive pick in the current meta, while 18 other champions have also been tweaked. If you're looking for some more visual flair, Riot has added a lovely batch of Solar and Lunar Eclipse skins for Kayle, Sejuani, Sivir, Aatrox, and Senna. While patch 12.9 is still in the earlier stages of development, you've got plenty to eyeball. Riot is working on a mid-scope update for Taliyah that'll be just as extensive as Swain's rework. You've also got several new High Noon skins for the likes of Katarina, Leona, and more that make the champions look like gothic vampire hunters. If that isn't your style, Riot has also added some icy skins to honour esports outfit Edward Gaming's 2021 World Championship. PCGamesN Thursday, May 5, 2022 3:59 PM E3 is dead (this year, at least), but the Summer Game Fest schedule will ensure that there's plenty of appointment viewing if you're looking for direct marketing from major publishers on their upcoming PC games. Between the individual events that have already been announced and the usual rumours from the industry's more reliable insiders, we're starting to get a pretty clear idea of what we can expect from this summer's not-quite-E3 press conferences. Before we get to what will happen, let's talk about what won't. There will be no EA Play this year. EA's annual showcase typically took place just ahead of E3 every year, but the publisher has confirmed there will be no such broadcast in 2022. Instead, individual EA studios intend to bring info about games like Dragon Age and Dead Space through smaller, dedicated info blasts on social media. EA brings us straight to the rumour mill, too. The sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is reportedly due for a reveal soon. May 4 didn't yield a reveal like some had thought, though we could still see something between May 26 and May 29, the dates of the annual fan convention, Star Wars Celebration. PCGamesN Thursday, May 5, 2022 3:28 PM Another May the 4 has come and gone, and with it, no concrete news of a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel. However, some fans are now wondering if protagonist Cal Kestis' sophomore act may be coming sooner than they first thought. Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy and will reprise the role in the eponymous Disney+ series, set tongues wagging during a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Guest host Mike Birbiglia asks McGregor about the actor's reaction when fans start quizzing him about Star Wars facts, with McGregor answering that it's difficult to keep up with the universe now that it's expanded into books, comics, cartoons, and "computer games". He also praises director Deborah Chow's Star Wars knowledge as "all of the storylines have to match up" because you "can't have some fact in a videogame that doesn't match up to the movie". The conversation then moves on to other topics without mentioning Star Wars games again, but it was enough for eager Star Wars fans to start speculating on Resetera. "We know the Inquisitors are in the show and we know the temple from [Jedi: Fallen Order] also pops up and we've already seen a BD-1 droid pop up in Boba Fett," The_Iceman2288, the original poster, says. PCGamesN Thursday, May 5, 2022 2:06 PM Traditional E3 may be no more, at least for this year, but Summer Game Fest is coming back around again. Event organiser Geoff Keighley has announced that this year's Summer Game Fest begins June 9 at 11am PDT / 2 pm EDT/ 7 pm BST and will run for several weeks leading up to Gamescom 2022 on August 24. Summer Game Fest Live! is the inaugural event, featuring trailers for upcoming PC games, celebrity appearances, and more. While there's no suggestion of what Keighley and co. might have planned for this year's event, last year saw the likes of Elden Ring, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and Death Stranding: Director's Cut make their debut. Weezer and Jeff Goldblum also made an appearance, so expect some celebrity presenters and performers as well. Those who want to watch Summer Game Fest's reveals in a less traditional way can experience the event in IMAX theatres. Keighley says The Game Awards 2022 will also stream in select IMAX theatres, though there's no word on participating locations for either event yet. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, May 5, 2022 6:55 PM The Razer Naga Trinity is a rather brilliant mouse for MMO gamers, or anyone really that likes or needs to have plenty of buttons right under their thumb. The Naga Trinity's key feature is that it comes with three interchangeable side panels, each with a different amount of layout of buttons - so you can have a regular two-button side layout for FPS titles, a seven-button layout for more complex games (MOBAs?) and a 12-button calculator-style layout when things get properly exciting (MMOs). Or you can just figure out which one is your favourite, and keep it on forever more. The Naga Trinity's UK RRP is £110, but it normally goes for about £70 or £80. Today, it's down to £55 - a nice discount! |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, May 5, 2022 6:40 PM The Cooler Master NR200P is, in my humble opinion, the best value Mini ITX case you can buy right now. For its street price of £110, you get a compact yet easy to build in design with a choice of mesh or glass side panels, plus a pair of low profile 120mm fans. Today however, you can pick up this brilliant little case for £76 in black or white, or £85 to £96 for colours like orange, purple, teal and pink. Either way you slice it, this is an incredible case for the money - and I should know, I've got two of them in my room right now. |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, May 5, 2022 6:31 PM Sometime after Dying Light initially launched, an improved version of the game was released alongside its expansion and some of its DLC. Owners of the original version who wanted in needed to upgrade, of course. Now, years later, anyone who owns the original Dying Light on PC will be able to get a free upgrade to the Enhanced Edition, allowing them to finally partake in the excellent The Following expansion. It's a solid gesture that will likely also grab some attention for the recently released sequel. The expansion is also required if you want to see what becomes of the main game's protagonist, Kyle Crane. But the free upgrade to Enhanced is not all that Techland is offering for the original Dying Light. Hellraid, the game's second piece of DLC, which thrust players into a dungeon crawler, also got its final update today. This update adds quality of life changes, new weapons, and new consumables into the game mode. There's also a new in-game event that will r... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, May 5, 2022 6:00 PM The Day Before has been called the top wishlisted game on Steam. That's because it is. The game stands at the peak of Steam's Top Wishlists page, and developer Fntastic reports that millions have added it to their personal lists. There are certainly a lot of people waiting to play it. Sadly, they're going to have to wait a bit longer. Speaking exclusively to IGN, Fntastic announced that The Day Before launch has been delayed almost a year while the company switches the game to Unreal Engine 5. The game was originally scheduled to release for PC on June 21. With Fntastic now shifting it to Epic's new tech, The Day Before is delayed until March 1, 2023. It's a long time to wait, but seeing what the fifth Unreal Engine is capable of, it may be worth the extra time. Still, the developer did cut the announcement close. In the announcement, the developer mentions the delay is due to feeling the responsibility of having to impress millions of interested players. ... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, May 5, 2022 5:30 PM Overwatch 2 is well into its first beta, with a ton of new changes and reworks to existing heroes. Character balance is a tricky beast, and this first Overwatch 2 PVP beta patch set out to correct a lot of the issues that came with these new changes. Additionally, the new Overwatch 2 patch fixed a ton of different bugs, including one where the dastardly hamster Wrecking Ball could literally wreck your game. By which I mean crash it completely. Some of these bug fixes help cure some game-breaking issues within the beta. It's certainly a good thing that a hero can no longer single-handedly delete you from the game. Characters like Brigitte and Lucio also received some much needed help with this patch. It fixed an issue where Brigitte could not shield damage from above (a blessing to Pharah mains everywhere), and also fixed whatever was causing Lucio's gun to jam and not reload. Doomfist, Roadhog, Soldier: 76, Symmetra, Hanzo, and Ana got some other, less noticeable bug fixes.... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, May 5, 2022 5:00 PM Genshin Impact is facing a pretty major delay, as HoYoverse had to indefinitely delay the next version of the game likely due to Covid lockdowns in Shanghai. The company didn't specify what caused the delay, nor did they say how long it would last. As a result, the Genshin Impact developer will release weekly compensation packages until it can get the next version up and running. Hopefully, this makes the wait for the update a little less painful. Each week, players will receive a package of 400 Primogems, a Fragile Resin, seven Hero's Wit, 16 Mystic Enhancement Ores, and 120,000 Mora. They will continue to distribute this package until Version 2.7 arrives. HoYoverse also stated, "if the period between the 2.7 update and the previous weekly compensation for the delayed update is less than a week, the final weekly compensation will be adjusted accordingly." That is to say, if Genshin Impact Version 2.7 drops in the middle of the week, players will get fewer rewar... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Thursday, May 5, 2022 4:30 PM Grinding Gear Games is doing something different when it comes to character balance changes in the upcoming Path of Exile expansion, Sentinel: nothing. No buffs, nerfs, or anything of the like will be applied once the new content goes live. Why, you may ask? Well, the reason is simple: GGG is trying to save you all some stress. Class balance changes come to every Path of Exile expansion, but that's being put on pause for Sentinel. I previewed the new content ahead of today's livestream, in which the decision was revealed. During the preview, GGG's Chris Wilson spoke about why the developer decided to eschew said changes. The reason is because Wilson and the rest of the team want players to dive right into the expansion. Wilson said that, generally, people tend to seek out new class builds before playing a new PoE expansion, and these changes often throw a wrench into things. When character balance gets changed, it potentially mucks up previously made class bui... |
