Siliconera Tuesday, August 23, 2022 11:45 PM Masahiro Sakurai, best known as a key creator behind Kirby and Super Smash Bros., has a new way to reach his audience. After posting his last regular screenshot from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate yesterday, he revealed his next step: YouTube. Sakurai calls his new channel "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games", and plans to use it to post educational content about game development. Check out his video introducing the Masahiro Sakurai Youtube channel. It features English subtitles and a format quite similar to his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate video appearances. You can see the Japanese edition of the channel at this link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M-DnOIeasA& According to the intro, Sakurai intends to use the channel to talk about topics related to game design and game development. He mentioned that he's often asked to give lectures, and speak at conferences. However, he feels like he could do more by speaking to a wider audience, one that doesn't have as much technical experience or formal education in game development. He wants to show footage from various games, but wants to "focus on the classics" to keep things simple. He's also received clearance from Nintendo to show off footage from development builds and design notes for Super Smash Bros. Sakurai was quick to stress that the YouTube channel is not related to Nintendo. It's a personal project, one that he does not intend to profit off of via video monetization or subscriptions. He said that he considers the project "an investment" in the future of the game industry. Currently three videos are on the channel, including the introduction. One is a short roundup of games he's worked on, and another is the first lecture, a brief explanation of "hit stop" effects. Hit stops are the brief pauses in animation or motion that accompany powerful attacks or defeats to emphasize their impact. The Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games channel is now open on YouTube. Siliconera Tuesday, August 23, 2022 11:00 PM Final Fantasy VII Remake expanded greatly upon the time players spend in the starting city of Midgar. The change in pacing allowed Square Enix to give players a deeper look at the lives of Midgar's inhabitants. Similarly, greater time spent with the initial cast of characters: Barrett, Aerith, and Tifa, meant that the game could expand on their relationships a bit more thoroughly. That's the crux of the most recent FFVII Remake Revisited blog entry, which revisits Chapter 10: Rough Waters. As with previous entries, the blog features insights from the development team, including Producer Yuma Watanabe, Battle Director Teruki Endo, Lighting Director Iichiro Yamaguchi, Co-Director Motomu Toriyama, and Co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi. Note: The blog and this post contains spoilers for Chapter 10 of Final Fantasy VII Remake. In FFVII Remake Chapter 10 coincides with the party's escapades in Midgar's sewer system, following their confrontations with Don Corneo. Tifa, Aerith, and Cloud must make their way back to the Sector 7 Slums to prevent a catastrophe: Shinra's plan to collapse plate above it, destroying the entire neighborhood. The sewer section was pretty small in the original game, but the development team wanted players to spend a bit more time "oppressive and gloomy area" to heighten the sense of achievement earned by leaving it at the end. According to Toriyama, the original game gives the Tifa and Aerith surprisingly little time to interact directly while in Midgar proper. As such, the sewer situation provided the opportunity to have the pair accomplish something together, beyond just their interactions in cutscenes. That accomplishment was the water pump minigame. The minigame wasn't originally in FFVII Remake's script, but Hamaguchi impressed upon the team "how important it was to insert a cooperative task between Tifa and Aerith" there. The team also expanded on things like Aerith's playstyle in FFVII Remake, as well as the sewer section's signature boss fight, with the Abzu. Check out the full blog at this link. Final Fantasy VII Remake is available on PC, PS4, and PS5. A sequel, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is in development. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, August 23, 2022 9:00 PM Moving Out 2 appeared at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022 with a short and sweet trailer to show off what it's all about. It's a co-op moving sim full of antics and ridiculous situations which make for a good way to unwind. The developers even teased a release window at last, with 2023 being the target. It's the latest in the ever-growing genre about doing mundane stuff, but poorly. Moving Out 2 expands on the original's unique idea that moving is like a complicated and tiring puzzle. The sequel lets you step back into the shoes of a Furniture Arrangement and Relocation Technician (F.A.R.T.), but this time with the internet. You can play with 1-4 players in either local co-op or crossplay online. This feature is sure to come in handy when you deign to grace the console plebs with your presence. Moving Out 2 new characters and features Moving Out 2 promises to deliver 50+ new levels with "interesting and hazardous challenges," which sounds like a healthy a... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, August 23, 2022 8:00 PM The Outlast franchise is something that all fans of horror should at least be familiar with by now. It's one of those franchises that doesn't hold back when it comes to ways of keeping you from falling asleep at night. If you're one of those types who appreciates a good jump scare along with dark magic and plenty of gore, you are indeed in luck. The Outlast Trials is the next installment in the franchise, and it adds co-op this time around. The Outlast Trials appeared again at Gamescom 2022 today with a trailer to remind us just how brutal and creepy it can be. Fortunately, it's just a simulation of a simulation. Nothing can hurt you, physically. Emotionally? No guarantees. You might be able to avoid some trauma if you bring some friends though. At worst, you'll enjoy group therapy. For research… and science Red Barrels mainly lets the trailer do the talking, but we do have some extra details on what we can expect in The Outlast Trials. As men... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, August 23, 2022 6:45 PM If you were looking forward to Unknown Worlds Entertainment, aka the developers of Subnautica, announcing a new game that offers similar thrills to the famous underwater survival series, you may want to temper your expectations a bit. The developer has revealed its newest project as Moonbreaker, complete with a reveal trailer and word on a Steam Early Access release this September. Moonbreaker is a digital strategy game based around miniature figurines. It looks like the goal for Unknown Worlds Entertainment is to get in on a similar market to Hearthstone, which is understandably quite lucrative when done well. Moonbreaker is set to launch on September 29, meaning that it'll be released in about five weeks. Surprisingly, the game isn't going to be free-to-play and will instead require an initial purchase, at least in order to start playing during the Early Access period. The Early Access bundle will cost $30 USD, but will supposedly allow people who purchase it to af... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, August 23, 2022 6:30 PM Dead Island 2 was revealed today at last with both a new cinematic and gameplay trailer, as well as a release date: February 3, 2023. The long-awaited sequel to the 2011 original looks to be trying to recapture that irreverent vibe the series became known for. The cinematic trailer follows a Lenny Kravits lookalike (one of the six new playable characters in the game) as he goes shopping at the grocery store in the hills of Los Angeles. Oh, and there are zombies. The trailer strikes a nice balance between humor and gore-filled action. A number of cute visual gags are interlaced between satisfying and visceral zombie slaying. However nice cinematic trailers may be, they are often not indicative of how the game will play. And at times they're not even being remotely similar to the final product. So it's a good thing we've also been given a gameplay trailer for Dead Island 2. In it, we are treated to shots of the zombie-infested streets of LA that serve as the open-world s... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, August 23, 2022 6:08 PM I can't help but feel it's at least a little ironic for Deck13 to show off its next game during the same show The Lords of the Fallen was revealed. The latter game is a reboot of Deck13's action RPG Souls-like, but from a different studio. I'm sure it's fine. Deck13, which also created The Surge, has plenty else to focus on. Atlas Fallen, its new game, was revealed in full today at Opening Night Live with a trailer bursting with action. Well, it bursts with action after about the halfway point. Up to this, we're introduced to the world of Atlas Fallen. In a post-apocalyptic landscape choked by sand, you hunt monsters with shape-altering weapons. Sand seems to hold a great power in Atlas Fallen, as seen in the trailer. Weapons are made from sand, which also grants the use of magical abilities. Anakin Skywalker would hate this game. Sand also lends itself to your mobility. In the trailer, we see two characters gliding along the sands as easily a... |
