For the first time in a decade, EA Sports will be releasing a college football game this season. The main reasons for that 10-year hiatus was a conflict over player payments (which weren't allowed under NCAA rules) and likenesses. Those had presumably been resolved in the lead-up to EA Sports College Football's

Nioh Fatal Frame Director

Bokeh Game Studios released the latest episode of its "Golden Hour" show. In this series, Founder Keiichiro Toyama talks with other Japanese developers about the development of their games. In the latest episode, the guests are Makoto Shibata and Fumihiko Yasuda of Koei Tecmo, developers behind Fatal Frame and Nioh. Their interview revealed some insights into the development of both series.

One of the more interesting anecdotes from the developer interview is a reveal that, for less than a year, Makoto Shibata was the director of Nioh. Development of Nioh was a ten-year project that was struggling to gain traction, and for a brief time, Shibata was brought on board before being replaced by Fumihiko Yasuda.

Shibata's vision for Nioh was vastly different from the final game. He had a slower pace in mind, inspired by Japanese period dramas, and not far from the slow pace of the Fatal Frame series. However, when Yasuda was brought into the director role, he spent four years turning it into the faster Soulslike the final game turned out to be.

Elsewhere in the interview, Shibata and Toyama compared their approaches to horror in Fatal Frame and Siren respectively. The three developers also talked about how games set in Japan can have an international appeal.

Here's the full interview with Shibata and Yasuda.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVt_YW6t08s

Makoto Shibata is the creator of the Fatal Frame series of games, while Fumihiko Yasuda is the director of the Nioh games. Keiichiro Toyama was director on the original Silent Hill before moving to Sony where he created the Siren and Gravity Rush games. Previously, Bokeh Game Studios' Golden Hour has featured chats with Shuhei Yoshida, Hideaki Itsuno and Shinji Mikami.

Bokeh Game Studio are currently working on their first game, Slitterhead.

yu-gi-oh towels

eStream will release towels that look like Spell Cards from Yu-Gi-Oh. They'll start appearing from mid-June 2023 as prizes that you can get from various Namco stores in Japan. The towels will likely be available as lottery prizes. [Thanks, PR Times!]

Each towel is around 120 centimeters long and 82 centimeters wide. There are three variations. You can either get Raigeki, Monster Reborn, or Polymerization. Monster Reborn will use the Japanese card art, which features an ankh from Egyptian mythology. As for the Polymerization card, it will use the more common version of the card art rather than the alternate (passcode 27847700) one.

Since they are prizes, it is unlikely that you will be able to choose which card you want. All three  cards have appeared since the start of the Yu-Gi-Oh card game. Some rulesets and games ether forbid or limit Monster Reborn and Raigeki, because they have powerful effects with virtually no drawback. So even though they're familiar cards for longtime players, they're not ones that can always go into your deck.

The Yu-Gi-Oh Spell Cards towels will be appear in Namco stores from mid-June 2023 as a prize. Other upcoming goods for Duel Monsters fans include a figure of Dark Magician Girl, which you can pre-order from Good Smile Company.

[gallery columns="2" ids="967025,967024" link="file"]

In particular, 2B and 9S will have alternate versions of their cards. These designs will show them without their visors, allowing you to see their eyes. As for the cast signatures, you'll be able to get the ones from:

  • 2B: Yui Ishikawa
  • 9S: Natsuki Hanae
  • A2: Ayaka Suwa
  • Devola/Popola: Ryoko Shiraishi
  • Lily: Atsumi Tanezaki
  • Pascal: Yuki Aoi

Each booster pack costs 330 JPY, and will contain 7 cards. In total, the NieR Automata Ver1.1 booster pack series has 88 cards. Aniplex will likely release more information on what cards you'll be able to get closer to the launch date.

Build Divide Bright is an alternate format of Build Divide that focuses on booster packs from various anime series. Other intellectual properties that Build Divide released collaboration booster packs for in the past include Lycoris Recoil, Bocchi the Rock, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Octopath Traveler Million Sales

Octopath Traveler 2 sales passed over a million units, according to Square Enix. The news was announced on the official Twitter account. The tweet featured a commemorative illustration by artist Tatsuaki Urushihara featuring the characters Throne, Ochette, and Osvald.

https://twitter.com/OCTOPATH_PR/status/1666370725199118339

The million sales figure takes into account both physical and digital sales across all platforms worldwide. The Octopath Traveler 2 sales a little slower than the first game's, which reached the million sales mark after about a month. Octopath Traveler 2 sold the same amount in just over three months. By contrast, the mobile spin-off Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent reached 3 million downloads within two days upon its initial release in Japan. However, Square Enix appeared to be pleased with Octopath Traveler 2's sales figures based on the tweet.

Octopath Traveler 2 released in February 2023. It released to rave reviews, with most reviewers praising it as an improvement over its predecessor. It is the direct sequel to 2018's Octopath Traveler, the first of many games in Square Enix's HD-2D style. Since the release of Octopath Traveler, other games to use the style have included Triangle Strategy and the remake of Live a Live. An upcoming remake of Dragon Quest III will also be using the visual style.

Octopath Traveler 2 is out now for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5 and PC.
