Kotaku Monday, July 17, 2023 6:50 PM Hey, quick question: If you had a spare $200,000 laying around in your bank account, what would you spend it on? You'd probably spend it on a house, or maybe a new car (several new cars?). What you probably wouldn't do is drop that kind of cash on a 16-year-old iPhone. But that's what happened over the weekend. |

Kotaku Monday, July 17, 2023 4:45 PM In 1998, Nintendo was in the early years of promoting Pokémon while Game Freak's monster-capturing phenomenon was making its way to the west after success in Japan. That game's co-director thought so too, and pointed out the similarity online. |
Kotaku Monday, July 17, 2023 4:13 PM Remember Shadowrun? No, not the tabletop RPG with incomprehensible rules. Nope, not the very good 1993 SNES game either. And no, not Shadowrun Returns. Rather, I'm talking about the oft-ignored, largely forgotten Xbox 360 multiplayer FPS. It wasn't a very good competitive first-person shooter, but if you want to… |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, July 17, 2023 6:46 PM Do you want a PC case for $40 plus shipping? So $53? Yeah, no, yeah? Well, anyway, Fractal Design's Focus 2 RGB is selling for that much on Newegg, when it normally costs like twice that, plus shipping, so like $93. That's $40 less, remember. It's a pretty cool case too, that supports full-size ATX motherboards, comes with two 140mm RGB fans up front, fits up to 360mm/280mm radiators and looks pretty neat as well. Let me tell you a bit more about it? |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, July 17, 2023 6:19 PM The Ryzen 5 7600X processor might be one of AMD's cheapest options in their Zen 4 lineup, but this chip is still hugely powerful compared to prior Ryzen generations. It takes advantage of its 5nm process and the AM5 socket to hit higher clock speeds, has architectural improvements that raise its single-core prowess, and of course has access to DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 add-in cards too. That's made it a strong option for gaming, but a high asking price of $300 at launch - plus expensive motherboards and DDR5 - put it out of reach of most sane budget builds. That's slowly changing as these chips and other components become cheaper, and today the 7600X has hit a new low price in the US: just $200 at Amazon.com, a full $100 off its MSRP and a great deal for a processor with this kind of performance. |

Siliconera Monday, July 17, 2023 7:45 PM Back in April 2023, Eric "Concerned Ape" Barone brought up how work on Haunted Chocolatier paused to head back to Stardew Valley. Now, we know a bit more about what that will entail. The developer confirmed four features that will appear. Most notably, a new festival and more character dialogue will show up in the Stardew Valley 1.6 update. Here's the full announcement. It is vague, however, and doesn't offer any hints as to what the dialogue, festival, and items could entail in Stardew Valley 1.6. There's also no screenshot of any of the updated content yet.
This is the second news tied to the game showing up in July 2023. Last month, Apple announced that the farming and life sim would join its Apple Arcade lineup. People who subscribe to the $4.99 per service will be able to access it on phones and tablets. Stardew Valley is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PCs, mobile devices, and the PlayStation Vita, and the 1.6 update is in development. Siliconera Monday, July 17, 2023 6:00 PM Usada Pekora of Hololive will serve as the official ambassador for FGO Fes 2023, which will be a major event commemorating the eighth anniversary of Fate/Grand Order. More details of what this will entail will come out soon. There will also be a major announcement for Fate/Grand Order on July 29, 2023. On July 29-30, 2023, she will host a live-stream and commentate on what's going on at the event from a special studio. Those are the two dates of the event. Though the event will run from 9am to 5pm, Usada's stream will only take place from 3:10pm to 3:45pm on those dates. Aside from being able to visit panels or discussions, going to FGO Fes 2023 means you'll be able to buy limited merchandise. There will also be attractions such as Bar Spiderweb, where you can roleplay meeting a Servant at the eponymous bar. Some reactions to Usada Pekora's status as the FGO Fes 2023 ambassador on Twitter have been fairly negative. Several tweets replied that Fate/Grand Order doesn't need VTubers, and its fans don't want to see them either. Others have stated that this collaboration doesn't match the worldview of Fate/Grand Order at all. As a reminder, she is just the ambassador; currently, Lasengle has not announced that it will release her merchandise or add her to the game. Fate/Grand Order is readily available on mobile devices. FGO Fes 2023 will take place on July 29 and 30, 2023. The current event, Mystic Eyes Symphony, is available until July 26, 2023. Players also have until then to pull for Medusa Saber. Siliconera Monday, July 17, 2023 5:30 PM Square Enix's FFVII Remake Twitter account posted some trivia regarding the Turks as they appear in Crisis Core. This piece of information has to do with the difference between the Turks and the SOLDIERs. In addition, there are a few pictures of Turks members such as Reno and Rude. According to the tweet, the Turks have a long history within Shinra. They existed ever since Shinra was a simple weapon manufacturer. By the time we see Shinra in the game proper, it's a huge industrial enterprise and mega corporation that influences almost all aspects of the series' world. SOLDIERs are the public face of Shinra's security department, whereas Turks are the ace up their sleeve in private. Despite that status, Turks historically guarded Sector 8, which is where the Loveless musical usually airs. Ever since the release of FFVII Remake, Square Enix used its Twitter account to share pieces of trivia or behind-the-scenes information on the game. For example, it shared the Remake version of Aerith's theme, as well as discussed Rufus's design. There was also an interview that Square Enix had with 4Gamer going into details about how it designed props for the game. Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. Siliconera Monday, July 17, 2023 5:00 PM HoYoVerse teased a Honkai Impact 3rd Promare event. It won't appear until sometime in September 2023, but there's already initial art. It is also unknown if there will be exclusive battlesuits or events, or if there will just be themed skins for existing characters' battlesuits to change how they look. Here's the teaser image for the crossover. It features Kiana Kaslana in the background. It also seems to suggest there could be a battlesuit or skin of Kiana Kaslana as Lio Fotia. There's no hint as to who Galo Thymos could be.
Meanwhile, the film Promare is currently streaming on Max. It is available with the English dub or Japanese voice acting with English subtitles. One of the last Honkai Impact 3rd crossover events involved HoYoVerse's own characters, People could get Fischl, from Genshin Impact, in the game. She remained a lighting-type character and also used a bow, just like she does in her original game. Honkai Impact 3rd is available on the PC and mobile devices. Its Promare crossover will arrive in September 2023. The post Honkai Impact 3rd Getting a Promare Crossover Event appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Monday, July 17, 2023 4:30 PM TVT announced Ratatan, which will be a spiritual successor to Patapon. The previously-teased "Project JabberWocky" being Ratatan was revealed during BitSummit Let's Go on July 14, 2023. Ratatan's Kickstarter will open up on August 1, 2023, with more information on things like backer rewards coming out on July 29, 2023. [Thanks, Dengeki Online!] So far, there's not a lot of concrete information about Ratatan. However, the dev team has stated that it aims to create new content that won't betray Patapon fans' expectations. There will also be more characters compared to the previous game. Kemmei Adachi, who worked on Patapon, will continue to provide music for Ratatan. It's unclear if there will be multiplayer, local or otherwise, in the game. Patapon did start featuring multiplayer from the second game, so there's the possibility of Ratatan having it at launch. Patapon first came out in 2007, and was a combination between a rhythm game and a strategy one. In total, there were three games in the series. In Patapon, the player controlled a deity that controlled the eponymous Patapons using drumbeats. You could also perform miracles that affected the weather depending on how high your combo was. Ratatan is in development and its Kickstarter will open up on August 1, 2023. More information on the game will come out on July 29, 2023. Its other project, Project Shaz, will continue development after TVT makes more progress on Ratatan. The post Ratatan Will Be a Spiritual Successor to Patapon appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Monday, July 17, 2023 4:00 PM Masahiro Sakurai released a new video discussing the importance of motion sickness settings in video games. The video is the latest to feature on his YouTube channel, "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games". In the video, Sakurai discussed the physical reasons behind motion sickness. He stated that video game motion sickness is the opposite of the kind that occurs in cars. Cars cause a body in motion to think it's static, while video games trick a stationary body into thinking it's moving. He illustrated this using racing games run in first-person modes, including Ridge Racer 7 and Forza Horizon 5. Sakurai also showed off the difference that motion sickness settings in video games can provide for those who suffer with the condition. As an example, he featured Resident Evil 7 and Forza Horizon 5 with camera shake turned on and off. Sakurai also discussed the need for static screen elements that can help players ground themselves. "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games" is a YouTube channel where Sakurai shares insights into game design that he learned through his career. For example, he recently released a video talking about Family BASIC, the Famicom programming tool that he used at the start of this career. Other videos on Masahiro Sakurai's YouTube channel feature him sharing development secrets and stories for games he's worked on. These include the Kirby series, Super Smash Bros and Kid Icarus Uprising. The post Masahiro Sakurai Talks About Video Game Motion Sickness in New Video appeared first on Siliconera. |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, July 17, 2023 4:49 PM One of the most common criticisms levied at The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom relates to how sage abilities work. After completing a dungeon and unlocking its respective sage, you can bring their avatars out into the field to battle alongside you. They act of their own accord, but if you want to utilize their unique abilities, then aside from a few context-sensitive cases, you have to get next to them and hit the A button. Due to the often wonky AI, this can lead to countless frustrating moments, especially when an avatar stands far away from you and refuses to get closer when you need them most. You do have a few ways to draw sages to your position, however, and this Tears of the Kingdom guide will explain these methods. Ways to reset sages' positions If one of your avatars gets stuck on a ledge or behind a wall, one way to change their position involves simply turning the camera away from them. Once you rotate the camera back toward their direction, the avatar will,... |
