PCGamesN Thursday, October 5, 2023 1:50 PM Dredge was unexpectedly one of my favorite games this year. I didn't think it would play poorly or anything like that, I just never thought that I would find such comfort in a horror-aligned experience. I can easily lose hours of my life traversing the game's Lovecraftian waters, and always find myself wishing for more story content. Thankfully, my wish is coming true as Black Salt Games has revealed a shiny new Dredge expansion. The DLC is called The Pale Reach, and it's bringing us to much icier depths. Arguably ill-fated from the get-go and marred by performance issues at launch, the game largely only remains notable for its failure to take off, having disappeared into relative obscurity since its release back in May. PCGamesN Thursday, October 5, 2023 12:15 PM Want to know how Diablo 4 world tiers work? The Diablo 4 world tiers are essentially difficulty settings - the higher the tier, the more difficult the game is. When you create a character for the first time, you also have to pick a world tier. Diablo 4 recommends veteran fans pick world tier 2, whereas newbies should stick to world tier 1 where the enemies are easier to defeat. Playing on a higher world tier does have its advantages for playing against stronger enemies, including increased experience and additional gold for defeating monsters using Diablo 4 classes. It's important to note that the first two world tiers only apply from level 1 to 50, once you hit the Diablo 4 endgame, players can access three additional tiers upon completing specific challenges. Here's everything you need to know about Diablo 4 world tiers. Continue reading How Diablo 4 world tiers work MORE FROM PCGAMESN: Diablo 4 builds, Diablo 4 review, Diablo 4 classes |

PCGamesN Thursday, October 5, 2023 12:01 PM When was the Assassin's Creed release date? Rather than the more RPG-focused gameplay from more recent games in the series, Mirage is more of an homage to the original Assassin's Creed, bringing us back to the stealth-focused gameplay in a densely populated Middle-Eastern city. While it's still an action-adventure game with a strong narrative focus, long-time Assassin's Creed players will be reminded of Ezio's adventures rather than Eivor's. Assassin's Creed Mirage, first announced in September 2022, followed the release of Valhalla back in 2020. It's the thirteenth major installment, and like other AC games, Mirage is all about fascinating historical settings, intriguing characters, and stealth - something that will hopefully place Mirage among the best PC games when it eventually releases. According to our Assassin's Creed Mirage review, it's the best since Brotherhood, so whether you're a veteran assassin or new to stealth games, here's everything we knew leading up to the AC Mirage release date and gameplay. PCGamesN Thursday, October 5, 2023 11:48 AM What are the new Genshin Impact codes? Gathering currency in Genshin Impact can be quite the grind. While you can earn Mora and Primogems by completing quests such as daily commissions, an injection of extra funds will always be gratefully received. Fortunately, developer Hoyoverse occasionally sends out free gifts in the form of a Genshin redeem code. Most codes only work for a limited time - and they grant essential goodies like free Primogems and Mora - so it's a great idea to redeem them as soon as possible to avoid missing out. Genshin Impact codes are released periodically, frequently appearing in Hoyoverse's special programs, revealing information about future updates to the free PC game. They can also drop to celebrate milestones or to coincide with new Genshin Impact events. PCGamesN Thursday, October 5, 2023 11:28 AM What is the Minecraft armadillo? Mojang introduced us to the Minecraft armadillo on October 4, 2023, as one of the three designs going up for the public vote during Minecraft Live 2023. Following the reveal of our first choice, the crab, we head in land to find out more about this cute armored mob. Let's face it, Minecraft mobs are one of the best things about the sandbox game - there's nothing better to come home to at the end of a long day's mining than a farm full of sheep, cows, and pigs, and a menagerie of cats, dogs, and rabbits behind your front door. While there are already over 70 mobs in Minecraft, we can never have too many, and this year's Minecraft Live leaves the next addition up to you, with the Minecraft armadillo bringing a new mechanic to a mob you already love. If you've never seen Minecraft Live before, then you should know that the mob vote is one of the most exciting features of the livestream, in which you can help decide the next mob to be added to Minecraft. Minecraft mobs are just one of the many things that we love about the sandbox game - they keep you alive, provide valuable resources, and just look super cute. There are more mobs, creatures, and pets in Minecraft than you can shake a stick at already, but there's always room for more. Thanks to the annual Minecraft Live broadcast, you can even help choose the next adorable (or scary) addition, and the first choice is the cute crab. It's Autumn once more, and while that means Halloween, Pumpkin Spice, and comfy knits, it also means Minecraft Live is close, and this year's huge Minecraft broadcast has now been confirmed. Each year, Mojang uses Minecraft Live to announce new features coming to the popular game, as well as its huge annual update, and we can't wait to find out what's next following the Trails and Tales update of 2023. Each year, usually around the Summer, a brand-new, epic update comes to everyone's favorite sandbox game, and undeniably one of the best PC games of all time, Minecraft. That's only the second best time of the year for the Minecraft community though, as the Minecraft Live Broadcast in which these updates are revealed for the first time are super exciting to watch. PCGamesN Thursday, October 5, 2023 11:20 AM How do you vote in the Minecraft Live mob vote 2023? The mob vote is the most highly anticipated part of Minecraft Live every year - well, that and the new update announcement. Each October, three new mobs designs are revealed to the community, and we get to decide which one gets developed fully and added to the game. Last year, the Minecraft community voted the Minecraft Sniffer the winner, which went up against the Minecraft Rascal and Minecraft Tuff Golem for our votes. The Sniffer was added to the sandbox game earlier this year as part of the Trails and Tales update, bringing colorful new plants with it, which the sniffer sniffs out of the ground, naturally. PCGamesN Thursday, October 5, 2023 11:21 AM What is the Minecraft penguin? Revealed on October 5, 2023, the Minecraft penguin could be one of the next mobs added to Minecraft thanks to the Minecraft Live mob vote 2023. If you've never seen Minecraft Live before, then a little introduction - the mob vote is one of the most exciting features of the annual livestream, in which you can vote for one of three new mob designs to be worked on for the game. Previous Minecraft mobs added to the game based on viewer votes include the terrifying Minecraft Phantom, the illuminating Minecraft glow squid and the adorable Minecraft allay. There is a strange history of blue mobs winning the Minecraft mob vote, so perhaps the penguin is doomed and the blue and pink Minecraft crab is already our winner. That said, a penguin has been a long-requested addition to the game, so if you don't want that to happen, here's what you need to know about what the Minecraft penguin brings to the table and how to vote for it. PCGamesN Thursday, October 5, 2023 11:40 AM When is the Modern Warfare 3 release date? There were rumors last year that Activision might be taking a break from its annual cycle of Call of Duty games, giving Sledgehammer Games more time to craft a sequel. Well, thankfully, it turns out that those rumors were false. Modern Warfare 2 was originally intended to last two years, with Sledgehammer Games set to work on a 'premium release' expansion to continue the FPS game's single-player campaign. PCGamesN Thursday, October 5, 2023 10:14 AM When is the Modern Warfare 3 beta weekend and early access? We've become accustomed to Call of Duty beta periods and early access by now, so it's one of the first questions we all have as we count down to Modern Warfare 3. Now we know that Sledgehammer takes charge of the series for this year's sequel, we're as eager as you to jump in as soon as we can. Modern Warfare 3 is the direct sequel to 2022's MWII, and follows on immediately after the events of that campaign. It might be less than a year since the release of the last game, but that doesn't mean we're any less eager to see where the MW3 story goes when the Modern Warfare 3 release date rolls around. Early access won't help with that, as it only provides a sneak peek of multiplayer modes, but it does mean we get to dive into those classic CoD maps making their return. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 5, 2023 1:35 PM Pre-registrations have gone live for Konami's Silent Hill: Ascension, an interactive drama for mobiles - I know, shush, I'm sure it'll come to PCs eventually - which follows a cast of characters around the world who are being tormented by monsters from the eponymous Town of Woe. My enthusiasm for Silent Hill these days is approximately that of a dog returning to his vomit (or better, a depressive male protagonist with repressed memories that keep reeling him back to the same, misty high street). There have been so many middling sequels and spin-offs. But somehow, I can't let go. And Ascension does sound quite intriguing, not least for being a crowd-sourced storytelling enterprise akin to a massively multiplayer Until Dawn. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 5, 2023 12:55 PM Diablo 4 has been on the back-burner amid the chaos of Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield's launches, but much like an arch-demonness putting together the pieces of an inter-planar conspiracy, Blizzard have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes. The action-RPG's next big round of additions, the Season of Blood, launches on 17th October alongside the Steam edition of the game. It introduces a new season journey and questline, a new season event, and some skulking new enemies of the Nosferatu persuasion. The new quest sounds quite fun from the promotional materials. It sees you investigating a mysterious outbreak of punctured necks, recruiting a local Van Helsing named Erys, and tracking down a Dark Master, while harnessing 22 juicy new vampiric powers care of some pact armour. The latter range from turning into a cloud of bats, through cursing people, to treating yourself to a spontaneous bloodbath so as to enhance your channeled skills, The trade-off is that you'll have to acquire yet another Diablo 4 resource, potent blood, to perform these tricks. |

More specifically, we look at the post-launch changes the devs are making in an effort to improve matchmaking and wait times. Specifically, we use this to think about games that have changed their reputations after a rocky start, what with Cyberpunk 2077's recent 2.0 update. What are the circumstances that allow games to do that? Why are they such outliers? How do we think about reviews in the context of something like No Man's Sky? We've also been playing some big recent games, so tune in for discussions of Assassin's Creed Mirage, a call for pirate games, and a hilarious misunderstanding about Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 5, 2023 10:39 AM In The Lamplighters League, three evil factions are gathering the power to seize an apocalyptic tower, and you must stop them by finding and trashing their power bases. They'll grow in power the whole time, but you'll slow them by stealing and sabotaging with your team of colourful secret agents, who'll bash through gauntlets of mooks and monsters with munitions, magic, and mkicks to the stomach, mostly two action points at a time. All that makes for a colourful ride, and its 1930s setting and adventurous tone carried it for a while, but the more I played it, the more my wavering opinion turned into outright resentment. That's a damn shame, because it gets a lot right. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 5, 2023 10:30 AM Assassin's Creed Mirage is, so says the Alice B review, "the most enjoyable Assassin's Creed game for years." That's thanks in part to a returning focus on classic AC stealthing in a single, densely detailed city, and this back-to-basics approach extends to the technical side too. Mirage cares not for being the glossy poster child of ray-traced glamour; it's just a game that looks pretty nice and runs well on PC, older hardware and Steam Decks included. It also keeps its list of graphics settings relatively brief, though there are a few in there that can dish out some extra frames per second at little cost to the visuals. Here it is, then: your complete guide to Assassin's Creed Mirage's PC performance, from its refreshingly reasonable system requirements to its best settings combinations. |

Woah there, Dr Grant - what the hell are you talking about? We've known for a while that the game would use Denuvo, together with the VMProtect software, but what's baking the noodles of many players is that the Denuvo functionality has been snuck in after the Assassin's Creed: Mirage review embargo, denying critics the chance to assess its impact on the game. |

During a History of Shinra interview involving Kazushige Nojima and Final Fantasy VII, Tetsuya Nomura art of young Sephiroth appeared. At around the 54 minute mark, discussions about Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis came up. This was followed by looks at Sephiroth. Then, at the 56 minute mark, the two images of Nomura's take on the villain when he was young appeared.
Here's a closer look at the Tetsuya Nomura take on young Sephiroth. He still has his trademark green eyes. The hair is at about the same length as the Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis version of him.
As a reminder, Nomura worked on the original game's art. He also worked on FFVII Remake as a director, FFVII Rebirth and FFVII Ever Crisis as a creative director.
For reference, here's a side-by-side comparison of the Nomura design alongside the actual character portrait art used in the First Soldier episodes in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. The outfit is identical.
Young Sephiroth joined the cast of Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis at the end of September 2023. When people go through the First Soldier storyline with Glenn, Lucia, and Matt, they'll see a glimpse into his past. In addition, new gear changing his outfit appeared alongside his launch.
Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is available on mobile devices. FFVII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024.

There's a new Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash gameplay trailer, and this time the characters Maki Zen'in, Panda, and Toge Inumaki are the stars. While the three didn't appear in the initial launch trailer, all three were rather swiftly confirmed as playable fighters in the game. Bandai Namco's new footage shows each one in fights.
Things begin with Maki. She was a major character in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and supporting cast member in Jujutsu Kaisen. While she started out as a non-sorcerer, she is a master of cursed weapons and standard fighting.
After that, the video focuses on Toge. While he primarily uses hand-to-hand fighting, he will used his cursed speech for attacks like Fall, Get Twisted, Stop, and Get Crushed.
Finally, the Panda portion shows him using hand-to-hand combat. While he looks like a panda, he's a cursed corpse. At the end of his portion, he unleashes Gorilla Mode Max.
Here's the new Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash gameplay trailer for the characters Maki, Panda, and Toge. The version on YouTube features Japanese voice acting.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash will come to the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox, and PC "soon." The anime can be found on Crunchyroll, while Viz Media handles the manga.

As long as you are at AR 20, finished the first chapter of Klee's character questline, and went through the final Mondstadt Archon Quest "Song of the Dragon and Freedom," you can take part in the game.
The point of Dodoco's Bomb-Tastic Adventure is to use Jumpty Dumpty bombs with different ranges to defeat dangerous Spikey Fish. If you do, you earn rewards like Primogems, Mora, Hero's Wit books, and Mystic Enhancement Ores.
People will face a board with a Dodoco that can move along the edges. The Spikey Fish types of enemies will be arranged on the grid, as will other obstacles that will make a Jumpty Dumpty explode if it hits it. Your goal is to use the Jumpty Dumpty varieties you have to defeat all of the fish to earn points. They explode when they hit them or can be detonated after being tossed. The two example bombs shown by HoYoVerse in the image below showed one type had a range of five squares in a cross shape, while another would hit everything in a 3x3 box.

As part of the preparation for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Square Enix shared some screenshots comparing it to the original FFVII. Each of these essentially shows a moment from the original game alongside the remake's situation. The four shared feature moments from outside Midgar and at Cosmo Canyon.
First, here are the two images showing Aerith, Barret, Cloud, and Tifa as they've just escaped from Midgar. In the case of the original FFVII, we actually see Midgar's walls and everyone as they're just getting up after the final chase. with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, we see the party looking at the world outside the walls.
Next, here are the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and FFVII screenshots showing a moment in Cosmo Canyon. Once the party reaches the place, they head to the Observatory and Planetarium to speak with Bugenhagen. While we don't see the elder himself in the image, we do see the party members. In the original screenshot, only Aerith appears. In the remake, Aerith, Cloud, and Tifa are shown.
We'll perhaps learn more about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth soon. There will be a NYCC 2023 panel with some of the voice actors. That will happen on October 14, 2023 and be streamed online.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024. FFVII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC.

The Google Play listing for Silent Hill: Ascension is live and suggests a Halloween release date. The description for the Genvid experience says it will launch on October 31, 2023. As this is an interactive experience, the page also clarified that it will premiere at 6pm PT/9pm ET that day. However, Gematsu's Sal Romano said developer Genvid only said to wait for additional updates. [Thanks, Gematsu!]
We first learned about Silent Hill: Ascension back in 2023. It was described as an interactive series at the time. It has a 2023 release window at the time. Genvid also mentioned the goal would be for people to watch and interact to determine the course of the story to determine the "canon" path during the experience. An update in 2023 noted there would be multiple characters showcased from around the world and the audience watching would determine their fates.
This product listing notes the first platform revealed for the game. Prior to this, Bad Robot Games, Behaviour Interactive, and Genvid didn't mention any. Also, while the listing does mention pre-registering, it also brings up in-app purchases. However, there's no new trailer there, as the only one appearing on the listing is from the May 2023 reveal.
The Silent Hill: Ascension release date looks like it could be October 31, 2023. At the moment, only Android devices are confirmed as a platform.

One of the first things you need to do when Silent Hope begins is pick your who your starting hero will be s. There are a lot, honestly. It doesn't help that at the Character Selection screen in that very moment, it only offers a brief three or four sentences describing them and not really highlighting their abilities. Yes, when you encounter the rainbow, tear-shaped crystals on floors you can use that to swap characters or retreat to the surface, and you'll get that opportunity to do so shortly during the tutorial run. It still can feel like a big commitment. I chose the Fighter, then regretted it almost right away. So if you are picking from the seven characters to determine your starting one in Silent Hope, I say go with the Caster or Farmer.
Why is the Caster one of the great starter characters in Silent Hope?
The Caster is one of only two ranged units in Silent Hope, and he's the one with basically the best moveset. His standard attack is a nice ranged hit, which is useful when you're first getting your bearings early on or later in the game when you are dealing with hordes or trying to set off traps.
I also love his dash move. Rather than some characters who quickly run, he actually has a brief teleport. This means you can quickly dart away and not have to worry about taking damage as he's escaping an enemy.
But really, the Caster is probably my top pick for best the best one of the starting characters because of his class advancement and skills. The initial Caster moveset is fantastic and focuses on range and crowd control. You use Black Hole to hold multiple enemies in place and guarantee they take more damage from attacks. The Mega Sphere only hits five times, but it slowly moves directly in front of you and tended to "push back" opponents it would hit. Meanwhile, his Explosion deals damage to a group around one enemy highlighted in red. So basically use Black Hole, perform Mega Sphere to push more enemies toward it or hit enemies captured, then use Explosion on the whole lot.
His Sage and Summoner classes and their skills are also great. Each one involve increased stats. The Sage is more about precautionary measures. If you feel like the Caster character is still getting hurt and put in danger, replace Mega Sphere with one of those skills. Magic Barrier makes him temporarily invincible. However, I prefer Impact. It is essentially Explosion, but the Caster character is the target and any enemy around him takes AOE damage.
It'll be a while before you get Summoner, but I assure you those skills are good too.
So why is the Farmer another great starting character in Silent Hope?
A lot of the more close-combat melee characters are okay in Silent Hope! I just think the Farmer is the best starter one because of her attack speed, moveset, and growth potential. Her pitchform/lance has a good reach to it, which is handy for major attacks. Her dodge is also a standard dash, which is serviceable.
It's the initial three Farmer skills that can come in very helpful. Outta My Way is a straightforward dash attack that hits everyone in a straight line ahead of her. It might be difficult to pin down so you hit everyone guaranteed. But I like it as if her regular dash is on cooldown, you can also use that. Her Butterfly Buddy is also handy if you're dealing with early hordes that could include some enemies with higher defenses or a large group. This is because it can confuse or poison the foes, making them turn on each other and whittling down health. Since it just floats straight out, it usually hits quite a few enemies when it does this. Finally her Snack Time skill makes her harvest and eat a random vegetable that offers a stat buff. So she might deal more damage, see defense increase, or move more swiftly. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, I'd even see two buffs show up after she had a snack.
While her Geomancer class upgrade features a lot of area of effect and crowd control skills that are fantastic later on, the Ranger skills are all designed to give her more attacking abilities. My favorite of the three, and I honestly recommend using instead of Butterfly Buddy, is Birdie Buddies. When used, she summons three birds that hover around her. They will then act as homing missiles and attack enemies nearby. It's great if you're generally exploring or going into a group of foes. Get Lost is also a good one. It's basically dealing damage to an area in front of the character in the same way as Outta the Way, but she remains stationary.
The only downside to the Farmer, and the reason I'd say she's not as strong of a starter character in Silent Hope compared to the Caster, is Away You Go. This is a Ranger ability you can pick up and it's the only bad move in her arsenal. It involves her tossing her pitchfork/lance in a straight line at enemies. But the targeting system in here can be so frustrating that 70% of the time I'd miss opponents when I'd use it.
Silent Hope is available on the Nintendo Switch and PC.

Nintendo released a new video teasing a line of LEGO Animal Crossing toys. The teaser video involves minifigs of multiple characters, which includes NPCs and some villagers. There's also a classic floating present from the series. However, it only notes it is on the way, and there's no release date or details about sets.
First, here's the initial teaser trailer. It features, from left to right, Rosie, Bunnie, Marshal, Kapp'n, Fauna, Julian, Isabelle, and Tom Nook. All of them are animated figures suggesting how the actual minifigures could look.
As a reminder, back in 2020 we saw some LEGO Animal Crossing sets appear on LEGO Ideas. It first debuted in May 2020 and involved Nook's Cranny shop being brought to life. Later, an official interview about the set mentioned it used over 1,000 pieces. It is unclear if this could be related to the announcement.
At the moment, LEGO and Nintendo already partnered up for an array of Super Mario sets. These are interactive ones that allow the electronic Mario and other characters to interact with pieces to essentially go on adventures.
The LEGO Animal Crossing is in development. Animal Crossing New Horizons is on the Switch, while Animal Crossing Pocket Camp is on mobile devices.
