PCGamesN Monday, January 15, 2024 12:24 PM There exists somewhere, in game design and game development, a borderline mythical sweet spot between substance and readability. You want games that are full, that are rich, that have plenty to say and plenty for you to do. PCGamesN Monday, January 15, 2024 11:58 AM When is the Exodus release date? If I had a nickel for every time Matthew McConaughey embarked on an interstellar journey afflicted by time dilation, I would have two nickels. Exodus is the inaugural game from Archetype Entertainment, comprised of industry veterans across notable AAA studios such as Bioware, Naughty Dog, and 343 Industries. The studio is also helmed by James Ohlen, venerable lead designer on Dragon Age: Origins, Knights of the Old Republic, and more. Suffice it to say, Exodus' design pedigree is certainly promising. The Exodus release date is set to deliver an original sci-fi universe that's shaping up to resemble Mass Effect more than games like Starfield. PCGamesN Monday, January 15, 2024 11:01 AM What is the No Rest for the Wicked release date? The next game from the acclaimed studio, No Rest for the Wicked, looks to change things up quite dramatically, but in a good way. No Rest for the Wicked is an action RPG that is part Diablo, part Dark Souls, and maybe another, slightly smaller part Game of Thrones. You're saving the world, obviously, but there's more at play here as you slice your way through soldiers, religious folk, and unspeakable terrors: politics! Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, January 15, 2024 11:30 AM Hello folks. It's probably officially too far into January to get away with saying Happy New Year now, but stuff it, I'll wish you a good one anyway, as well as a warm welcome back to Letter From The Editor. This month's letter can be considered very much a part two to the one I wrote in November, in which we had a sneaky peek at the behind the scenes process of putting together our annual RPS Advent Calendar (or in regular video game website speak, our big games of the year feature). We always have a big old voting barney around November time to decide which games do or don't make the cut in our Advent Calendar (that is: we all submit top ten lists and we count up the votes afterwards), and every year lots of you try and guess which ones will make it over on the RPS Discord. Inevitably, there are only so many slots for what is always a heck of a lot of games put forward, but the key question has always been thus: who voted for what? WELL. For the first time ever, come and find out below as we reveal all. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, January 15, 2024 11:03 AM War Hospital, out now on Steam, is about subsisting on the periphery of a war and keeping it firmly off-screen by means of adept time management. Set in 1918, it puts you in charge of a field hospital in northern France, a few minutes drive from the frontline. Here's how all that works: casualties arrive from the trenches by ambulance or stretcher, and are carried by your medics to a clearing station, where nurses look after them before they're seen by a doctor. Patients may be lightly or severely injured, but they will all eventually die if they're left unattended. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, January 15, 2024 10:30 AM I mentioned this in a What Are We Playing? and the podcast last week, but I've been playing a point and click puzzle game called Twilight Oracle, which is out at the end of the month. It's cool! It reminds me a lot of Legends Of Kyrandia, in that it doesn't need to explain why stuff in the world is like it is, it just is. Big talking fish? Sure. Skull floating in space? You betcha. Twilight Oracle isn't immune to the kind of counter-intuitive puzzle solves that are sort of inherent to the genre (use pineapple on wallet, etc.), but there's a demo to see for yourself, and I thought it'd be just as well to make more of you aware of it before it comes out on the 30th of January. Also because I wanted to point out that one of the reasons I have been enjoying Twilight Oracle is the colour. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, January 15, 2024 7:48 AM Given the sheer quantity of games releasing on Steam these days, having a neat little elevator pitch for your game can be vital in helping it stand out. For example, if I get an email saying a game is like "Obra Dinn meets such and such" or "Into The Breach but a deckbuilder", that's like personal catnip to me, and can be a handy indicator of whether I should investigate further - maybe watch a gameplay trailer for it, say, or see if it's got a demo. Case in point: this is exactly how I stumbled upon the upcoming Donkey Kong Country-esque platformer Windswept last week, although instead of an email, I saw it on the growing "Your game is too much like..." thread over on Xwitter - which is definitely worth a browse if you have very niche interests in need of a good scratch. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, January 15, 2024 7:10 AM Do you like trapping innocent, extinct animals in diabolical, broken worlds of your own devising, miring them in a purgatory of genre comparisions from which they may never escape? There's also a dev kit update planned next week for multiplayer spin-off Ark: The Survival Of The Fittest. Taito announced that it will shut down its online servers for Groove Coaster 4MAX: Diamond Galaxy and turn it into a permanently offline game on April 1, 2024, at 6 AM JST. The rhythm arcade game will remain available after the date, as long as arcade centers still retain its cabinets.
Once the game goes offline, players will no longer be able to record their play data with NESiCA cards. In exchange, the Extra mode and all difficulty levels for each song will be unlocked by default. Versus mode will only be available locally if the outlet is running multiple cabinets of the same game.
The company will also shut down the Groove Coaster 4MAX My Page website, where players could view achievements and customize their in-game interfaces, on April 8, 2024.
The Groove Coaster series producer Takuma Hanagata provided more context to the arcade game's offline transition. In late 2022, his team announced that new content updates were no longer possible due to hard drive constraints. Even though the team promised that the online servers would remain available for the foreseeable future, the lack of new content directly led to fewer outlets retaining the game's cabinets.
The team ultimately decided that continuing to maintain online services in this situation would be difficult. It will hold one last online versus event where players can collect titles and trophies before the Groove Coaster arcade game goes offline.
Groove Coaster 4MAX: Diamond Galaxy is available in arcades.

Once Diablo IV released, I never really expected Blizzard Entertainment to continue supporting Diablo III outside of a skeleton crew. While Season 28 and 29 came and went, Diablo III Season 30 has been a pleasant surprise, as it has allowed players who otherwise lost interest in the ARPG during its early years to experience previous Seasons with some extra bells and whistles tacked on. While no major content updates have been planned for Diablo III as of the release of Season 30, there will still be enough to chew through as previous Seasons go on rotation.
As mentioned previously, Season 30 isn't exactly novel, but instead is an exploration of content that appeared in Season 1 with some mechanics from previous Seasons tacked on. What makes this interesting is that Diablo III has more or less all of it's kinks ironed out, which means that new and returning players are experiencing the game at its best. (Though this is debatable depending on what class or build you preferred.) For me, I sort of weaved in an out of Diablo III depending on when I wanted to scratch my ARPG itch. I played the game on launch and experienced it in it's roughest state, flipping through stages as a Demon Hunter only to drop the game a few weeks later after carrying a friend and their mom through the end game.
I returned for the Reaper of Souls expansion, giving the Wizard a try, but ultimately fell back into playing a Demon Hunter. I enjoyed the Rift system a lot, even wishing it had returned for Diablo IV, but again I ended up dipping out of Diablo III to play something else. The game didn't hold my attention for any long periods of time, which was fine. However, leading up to the release of Diablo IV, I jumped back into Diablo III again, but this time with a dedicated group made up of friends who were either veterans of the series or entirely new.
We played through Season 27 and even streamed some of Season 28, eagerly awaiting it's release to run through Rifts and other end game activities in the game's Adventure mode together. With Season 30, I've reinstalled Diablo III to play with that very same group again once we have time. But what I've experienced on my own lured me into continuing. It's content that I missed out on due to my waxing and waning interest in the game. Though knowing that no major changes will be coming any time soon has made it all the more appealing. I know what builds I want to aim for and I know what I can work towards effectively through Diablo III's prestige system.
Also, incorporating mechanics from previous systems means that players can choose how they want to progress and gain passives and elixirs. It adds a permanent depth to what is effectively just making numbers go up and killing things quickly and efficiently in a way that feels satisfying.
While I may not stick with Diablo III Season 30 for very long, I know what I'm getting and I know it's going to be a good time. And if you are a player that maybe dropped off either with Diablo III's base game or with Reaper of Souls, I genuinely believe this Season is worth checking out, especially if you weren't exactly captured by how slow Diablo IV's general pace is. Diablo III is erratic, frantic, but ultimately fun, and I'm surprised at just how enjoyable Season 30 is.
Diablo III is available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Bandai Namco revealed that the Tekken 8 original soundtrack will be available in both physical and digital formats and Eddy Gordo will be the first DLC character. Eddy will appear in Spring 2024. The digital soundtrack will appear first on the same day as the fighting game's release date, and the physical album will be released later in March 2024.
Here's the DLC announcement. Eddy will be the first of four DLC characters in 2024, with one appearing in each season.
The Tekken 8 original soundtrack will contain 42 tracks ranging from in-match BGMs to the Tekken Fight Lounge lobby theme. The tracks will have a combined total length of over 170 minutes.
The physical album will come with many bonus items. Bandai Namco will split the soundtrack into four CDs and contain them in a large jacket that would normally host a vinyl record. It will also come with a large 36-page booklet containing liner notes from the 13-person composer team, including background descriptions for all 16 stages in the game. A sheet containing transparent stickers inspired by all 32 launch characters will complete the set.
The Tekken 8 physical soundtrack will cost 6,800 yen (~$46.65). Pre-orders for the album are immediately available on Amazon Japan, which supports international shipping. Amazon will also offer a tin badge as an exclusive bonus item.
The Tekken 8 digital soundtrack will appear worldwide on the same day Bandai Namco releases the fighting game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on January 26, 2024. The physical soundtrack will be available on March 13, 2024. The Tekken 8 Eddy Gordo DLC will arrive in Spring 2024.

Persona 3 Reload won't contain certain content from past games at launch, such as the female main character or The Answer. However, new story DLC content beyond the usual costumes and soundtracks could make up for the remake lacking these features.
Persona 3 Reload DLC could be a perfect way to tie us over until Persona 6
Persona is a series with many costume DLC across titles like Persona 5, but it hasn't yet attempted major story expansions through downloadable content. With the release of the inevitable Persona 6 likely a ways away, this new content could extend the lifetime of this highly anticipated remake and keep fans busy for a good while until the next game.
It would be great to see a Season Pass or something of the sort down the line, with maybe a year or so of dedicated new story DLC for the game. To be clear, I am not expecting this title to suddenly get FeMC as an additional option later down the line, as that would be a huge undertaking they are unlikely to do this late into the experience.
However, what this story DLC could focus on is bringing new experiences to players. For instance, an early DLC drop could include perhaps a new optional expansion to Tartarus or an unexpected part-time job. There is even the potential for a new social link or harder content to make the game worth replaying.
The Answer DLC just makes sense
Above all else, I think major DLC content for Persona 3 Reload could offer at least one significant expansion for the game. There are two options I have in mind, and the first is something from FES that makes sense in this title: The Answer. This epilogue content focusing on Aigis as the playable protagonist is immensely challenging.
The Answer was also offered as a separate mode in the main menu in the first place when it came out. As such, it makes sense to do this again and offer a remake of The Answer down the road for fans to look forward to. This would give players a reason to come back to the game, whether they've played this content before or not.
In addition, this could be a chance to expand upon The Answer. This could be in the form of a couple of hours of side content for the story to give something more for fans to do in the DLC. Since The Answer already exists, this would be more straightforward than a new story entirely.
New DLC focusing on a Side Story would still be great
While it feels less likely, I think it would be great to see Persona 3 Reload story DLC that focuses on a new side story. There are a few options for this, but something separate from the main story for players to check out. The first idea I have is for a prequel dungeon story of sorts, similar to The Answer, but before the main game.
It could focus on Mitsuru, Akihiko, and Shinjiro during their initial Dark Hour investigations. This would give us more time with these characters and some context for events in the main story. Another option could be something after the main plot, similar to The Answer. I could see a story revolving around the Shadow Operatives. This could show what Mitsuru and other members of the group shown in Persona 4 Arena do in their regular missions.
Persona 3 Reload releases for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 2, 2024.

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, January 15, 2024 1:39 PM For some reason, The Finals has a lot going on under the surface. You wouldn't expect it, but there's so much going on other than shooting other constants. For example, I didn't know you could counter poison gas — that became a game changer. However, players are finding more gameplay elements that can turn the tide of the match. There are cannons on certain maps in The Finals and they are usable. Read on below to find out more. The Finals: PSA the cannons are usable On maps like Manaco, there are a few cannons near cash-out points. Thanks to a discovery made by Reddit user RandomRaccoon2909 who posted a video demonstrating the use of the cannons, The Finals can be even more chaotic. However, you can't move them, so when you're using the cannons, make sure your target is in front of you. As for reloading, it seems like the cannons auto-reload after some time. I would suggest getting one shot in and then leaving the area. If you're an achieveme... |
