Dead Cells dev's new Prince of Persia roguelike is a must-play

Dead Cells is, without a doubt, one of the best roguelikes of all time. Initially developed by Motion Twin, the hit action game was eventually handed over to Evil Empire following its 1.0 launch. On top of spearheading Dead Cells, Evil Empire has worked on multiple retro IPs over the past few years, and we now know that one of them is the newly announced roguelike The Rogue Prince of Persia. I got a chance to play the first few levels and fight a boss, and it's safe to say that fans of Dead Cells will find Evil Empire's latest to be an invigorating, if at times familiar, experience.

One of the most wanted strategy games on Steam just got a launch date

When it comes to Civilization 6, Command and Conquer, and most of the other strategy mainstays, the one thing I feel I can rely on is the blind, homogenized obedience of my subjects. Sure, they might occasionally take umbrage if I want to invade a peace-loving neighbor, or neglect to follow my orders precisely, and obliterate my battle plans thanks to some goofy bounce of their AI, but generally, I say and they do. Inspired by RimWorld and Crusader Kings, a new medieval strategy game from Against The Storm and Manor Lords publisher Hooded Horse throws all of that into disarray. Already one of the most-wishlisted games on Steam (350,000 and counting), it's a smart blend of high-level city management and person-to-person social manipulation, and it finally has an early access elease date.

New Valorant Agent Clove breaks all the rules, Riot says

When I first saw new Valorant agent Clove, two things crossed my mind. The first was that they, unfortunately, aren't Glaswegian (we're the best city in Scotland, sorry not sorry). The second, however, was that their kit feels like a blend of all of the shooter's best characters. There's Reyna-style lifesteal, big brain Astra smokes, a damage over time grenade a la Viper, and, of course, a slightly different iteration of Sage's Resurrect. Given the game is almost four years old, I ask agent gameplay designer Dan Hardison whether or not we'll start to see abilities repeating themselves - but he reassures me Riot has plenty of "fresh" mechanics in the works.

There are both campaign and sandbox modes, where you'll establish multiple towns on multiple mountains, each with its own traits. "All your towns co-exist in symbiosis," it continues, "creating a trading network, which you can then adjust to your needs by revisiting already developed settlements." There have been a lot of remakes that take provocative creative liberties with the original game of late. I've always felt like last year's Darkest Dungeon 2 was secretly one of them. Rather than simply building on the previous game's premise of a Hamlet's worth of upgradeable, derangeable heroes venturing into tabletop RPG-style labyrinths, it stripped away Darkest Dungeon's skin and moved its bones and organs around to create a gruelling roguelike. Well, developers Red Hook appear to have done it again with Darkest Dungeon 2's free Kingdoms mode, out later this year, which slices open Darkest Dungeon 2's hide and recomposes it into a turn-based strategy boardgame, where you defend a world map against encroaching eldritch creatures.

Today's the birthday of the Triple-I Initiative, a 45-minute showcase of game announcements and trailers from the likes of Slay The Spire devs MegaCrit, Darkest Dungeon devs Red Hook and Dead Cells custodians Evil Empire. What makes a "triple-I" game a "triple-I" game, as opposed to (hawk, spit) a regular indie? I've given it some thought, and I think the answer is: "has more money and status than most indies, but not, like, Call of Duty levels, and also one our partners is Gearbox Publishing, so this is perhaps 'indie' in the Geoff Keighley sense."

Don't expect any of Keighley's beloved Kojima interludes or dance numbers in this one, however. Drop Bear Bytes, the studio behind post-apocalyptic RPG Broken Roads, are named after Australia's deadliest creature. The Drop Bear might look like a normal koala, but they're actually dangerous predators, fond of jumping from trees to maul unsuspecting chumps who forget to take adequate precautions, like urinating on themselves. Really, the story is a wind-up the aussies like to blag tourists with. If it looks like a koala, it's just a koala. But it's this sort of character, inspired by love for Australia's unique landscape, culture and good-natured mick-taking, that forms the heart of the best bits in Broken Roads. I say 'best bits', but I should probably say 'the only bits that I actually enjoyed', unfortunately.

Bombs wiped out 80% of Australia's population, and left the remaining nail-hard Nancys and tough Tobiases to fend for themselves in a world short of resources, but shockingly plentiful in both guns and pre-made Vegemite sarnies. You'll pick one of four character classes - I went with 'Jackaroo' (cattle hand), because it was called 'Jackaroo' - before tackling a short tutorial section. You'll then be thrust into some events, where you'll meet the rest of your starting party and kick off the game proper.

Last week I went to a screening of Amazon and Bethesda's Fallout TV show, a spin-off yarn starring Ella Purnell (who voiced Jinx in the Arcane Netflix adaptation) as a recently surfaced Vault Dweller, scouring the irradiated wastelands for [SPOILERS REDACTED]. It's early days, but the show's first two episodes didn't make a massive impression on me, though I will concede that the sight of Amazon's branding on Fallout's infamous Please Stand By emergency broadcast titlecard makes a dangerous amount of sense.

dragon ball baby clothes

If you want the strongest baby in the world, Shimamura has got your back, as it has opened up pre-orders for Dragon Ball baby clothes. It also sells men's t-shirts too. [Thanks, Inside Games!]

Pre-orders are open until April 14, 2024 in Japan. There are several variations of shirts that you can purchase. For the babies, you can get a T-shirt, a short-sleeved onesie that looks like Goku's training outfit, and pajamas. Adults have a wider range of designs to choose from. Instead of only being able to look like Goku, you can also buy shirts with Korin or Frieza on them.

As for the prizes, the baby shirts cost 990 JPY ($6.50) and the onesie costs 1490 JPY ($9.75).  As for the adults, the t-shirts cost 990 JPY as well. However, if the normal sizes are a bit too small for you, you can get a larger size for 1090 JPY ($7.15). Shimamura does not directly offer international shipping. So if you want to purchase these specific pieces of clothing, you'll need to use a proxy service of some kind.

The Dragon Ball Super t-shirts and baby clothes from Shimamura will be available for pre-order until April 14, 2024. Dragon Ball Super is readily available on streaming services like Crunchyroll.

The Steam page for the sequel is already live on the service. It currently offers a few insights into what to expect and early screenshots. My Time at Sandrock Co-op multiplayer

During the Triple-i Initiative showcase, Pathea Games brought up My Time at Sandrock co-op multiplayer. It will arrive in Summer 2024 on both PCs and consoles.

The announcement only came up very briefly and showed up with a brief trailer and informational panel. My Time at Sandrock co-op multiplayer will apparently be on all platforms in Summer 2024. It will be cross-platform, so you can play with anyone regardless of which version they own. No testing period was mentioned, but it is possible we could see something like a PC beta or early build branch ahead of its launch.

Many of the My Time at Sandrock updates leading up to this involved general game maintenance. For example, many of the latest patches fixed issues or improved the general quality of life for us as players. Addressing extended loading times ended up being a priority. Some patches also added new content to the game, to offer people more to do as they go about their virtual lives.

My Time at Sandrock is available now for the PS5, Switch, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The PS4 version is expected to appear on July 16, 2024.

Genshin Impact 4.6 Serenitea Pot

A new article on HoYoLab detailed some of the quality of life improvements coming to Genshin Impact in Version 4.6. These include one-click crafting for the Serenitea Pot and faster Treasure Compass cooldowns.

Crafting in the Serenitea Pot is set to be made easier, with options to purchase missing furnishings or add items to the creation queue with less clicks. Items in the queue can also have their production finished instantly through the use of Adeptal Sand. Sorting options and filters for furnishings will also be added, and purchase limits will be increased.

Some changes to the quest log are also planned, such as marking reputation quests and quest items in the log. "Focused Experience Mode" will allow players to select one quest as a priority, stopping characters and scenes being unavailable due to progress in other questlines. Additionally, Treasure Compass items will also be changed to have their cooldowns reset upon opening a chest, rather than having to wait for the full duration.

While there is not currently a date for when Genshin Impact Version 4.6 will arrive, it will likely be announced at the 4.6 Special Program scheduled for April 12, 2024. A new cat-themed event called Feline Fortress Furrdyssey also recently launched in the game.

The launch date for Genshin Impact Version 4.6 will likely be announced at the 4.6 Special Program on April 12, 2024. The game itself is immediately available on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble Adventure Mode Includes Multiplayer

Sega offered an update on the Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble Adventure noted and mentioned it offers 200 stages that can be played in multiplayer. These levels can be gone through alone or up to four people can work together to clear them.

For those unfamiliar, these Super Monkey Ball courses will involve getting your monkey in their ball to the goal at the end of the course. As you get through different worlds, the difficulty ramps up and stages become more challenging. This version's new additions include the ability to turn on options to help someone through a run. For example, someone could restart from a checkpoint if they fall off of the course. There can also be a Ghost or Route Guide to show you which paths to take through some stages or the moves to make to get past hazards. There will also be the ability to rewind.

A first Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble Adventure trailer explains the point of the story. All of the monkeys and other animals are in search of a legendary banana that grants its bearer powers.  The video also shows gameplay through some of the stages and worlds. Among them are the Banana Farm, Rose Garden, Floating City, Golden Temple, and Stone Valley.

We've seen quite a few Monkey Ball games in the last few years. One of the most recent ones is Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania. That one is something of a compilation game, going through "greatest hits"  from Super Monkey BallSuper Monkey Ball 2 and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble will launch on the Nintendo Switch on June 25, 2024.

Hololive Vtuber Sakura Miko Hits 2 Million YouTube Subscribers

Hololive Vtuber Sakura Miko hit a new milestone, as she's reached two million subscribers on YouTube, and she's also released a new original song. The music video for "Nya-HelloWorld," which appears in Japanese as "にゃっはろーわーるど," is now available online.

Miko actually hit the milestone on April 9, 2024, with the official announcement coming from Cover via the Hololive social media account later that evening. Upon reaching it, she shared a retrospective video of moments taken from her streams and performances over the years. That also included looks back at her various models and designs up through the present day.

https://twitter.com/sakuramiko35/status/1777689988584644851

While there's no merchandise for her milestone, the new Sakura Miko song is live. The vibes for it may also sound familiar. This is because the Vocaloid composer Carlos "Size-P" Hakamada created "Nya-HelloWorld." Some of the producer's past tracks include the Hatsune Miku songs "Mimimimikku" and "Oh SOS."

Here's the new song:

Sakura Miko has been around and with Cover since August 2018, though the Vtuber didn't officially become part of Hololive until later that year. She's among the first performers who joined the company. As such, she's considered part of Generation 0, just like Tokino Sora and Hoshimachi Suisei

Stellar Blade Character Trailers Introduce Adam and Lily

While Eve is the star of Stellar Blade, the two other characters set up as important to the plot are Adam and Lily, and both of them appear in new trailers. Each one are brief introductions to the supporting cast members.

First, here's the Stellar Blade trailer introducing Adam that appeared on Sony's PlayStation YouTube channel. In addition to showing clips of him, it feels like it is introducing the location Zion. We see him introduce himself to Eve, then offer a partnership that sees the two of them helping each other with their respective missions in a new partnership.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT6tfKgvK9g&ab_channel=PlayStation

The second of the Stellar Blade Shift Up character trailers begins with Eve rescuing Lily. She's locked in a capsule of sorts. We then get to see her using her engineering skills to build equipment that can upgrade Eve's drone. It shows how she'll assist us when we play through the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlrYOVq2GFE&ab_channel=PlayStation

Neither of these focus on gameplay. However, it's been established as an action game not unlike NieR Automata. However, the ambiance and design do seem to suggest how Alita: Battle Angel influenced the game's world.

Stellar Blade will come to the PS5 on April 26, 2024. Its demo is available now.

NIKKE Gets Cheerleader SSR Bay and One More Time Event

The next Goddess of Victory: NIKKE banner and event are about to begin, adding the cheerleader supporter SSR Bay and One More Time to the game. Both debut on April 11, 2024, then end on April 24, 2024.

With SSR Bay, she's a new type of Defender. This means that her role in the party is to help everyone else. Both of her passive skills are designed to help share damage everyone is taking. Her burst is a II type and also increases cover HP and reduces damage. When she attacks enemies, she uses a rocket launcher. She's also a fire type unit.

Shift Up shared an infographic with us that also goes over her You Can Do It and Cheer Up Together passives and First Winner Burst Skill.

There's also a new trailer highlighting SSR Bay.

https://twitter.com/NIKKE_en/status/1777645240968687859

The One More Time event seems, at the outset, to be a more lighthearted NIKKE one and involve a cheerleading competition. Players will follow Bay and Clay as they attempt to become the best and succeed. As you go through stages, you can earn currency for the event shop and rewards. There is also a login event tied to this activity that will give rewards if you log in seven times between its beginning and end.

The last major additions to NIKKE involved a Re:ZERO Starting Life in Another World crossover. When that launched, Emilia, Ram, and Rem were added as playable characters. Emilia and Rem are both SSR characters who are now considered to be among the most useful in the game.

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is available for the PC and mobile devices, and the SSR Bay banner and the One More Time event run from April 11-24, 2024.

Genshin Impact Special Program 4.6 Airs This Week

HoYoVerse dated the Genshin Impact Special Program for the 4.6 update. It will air on Twitch at 5am PT/8am ET/1pm CET, then show up on YouTube after the fact.

The teaser image for the showcase hinted at some of the characters who will be present at the event. This also means we have an idea of who will appear in the next Wishes banners for the game. Lumine, the female version of The Traveller, is going to appear as a host. Itto will also be present. His rerun banner appeared at the beginning of 4.5. We also see images of both Arlecchino and Lyney.

Arlecchino is a Fatui member who appeared during the Genshin Impact Fontaine Archon quests. She's going to be a Pyro character. HoYoVerse already teased that she will be the new playable character in the 4.6 update. Lyney also appears in the image. He's a Fontaine character who debuted in the 4.0 patch. This would mean he'll be getting his first rerun banner.

While HoYoVerse hasn't officially announced the date for 4.6, we do have an idea of when it will appear. The current Neuvillette and Kazuha banners end on April 23, 2024. This means the new banners and update will likely appear on April 24, 2024.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the special program for 4.6 airs at 5am PT/8am ET/1pm CET on April 12, 2024.

Review: Fallout Season 1 Honors the Games

When people play the Fallout games, everyone's runs could be different. This due to how folks approach the experience, which factions they side with, and the way they choose to survive in the wasteland. Thanks to the approach taken with Fallout season 1, Amazon's latest foray into video game shows, the use of multiple protagonists means this adaptation feels like it properly pays tribute to all the things the games are and accomplish.

The whole execution of Fallout season 1 and its multiple leads serves as a means of introducing factions and races from the game in an easily digestible way. Especially since they all end up being tied together by common goals, which allows us to see how each one would approach the situation. Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) is our Vault dweller given a reason to leave the safety of 33. Maximus (Aaron Moten) is a young man attempting to rise through the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel after being saved by a person in Power Armor as a child. The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) has no ties to anyone and is, well, a ghoul. We also get insight into pre-Great War society, the Enclave, and ordinary wastelander life. Each one is setting out on a journey as the series begins, and their experiences and interactions with one another all better shape our understanding of things.

This decision means that in the first few episodes, season 1 of Fallout is acting as a perfect primer for anyone who hasn't played the games. Lucy's led something of an idealized existence safe in Vault 33 with her brother Norm and overseer father Hank. Everyone seems to get along. Things are bright and cheerful. There's no struggle for health or resources. We're left with the impression Vault Tec wanted us to have. This also means plenty of references to that propaganda, including Vault Boy and Nuka Cola. As a result, Lucy is a bit naive and overly optimistic, even though she is incredibly intelligent and a skilled fighter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-mugKDQDlg&ab_channel=PrimeVideo

With Maximus, we're seeing a harsher view of what people above needed to live like. He sees the Brotherhood as his saviors and is dedicating his life to rising through the ranks in hopes of becoming a Squire and Knight. While he's far more aware of his surroundings, as well as strong and tough, that upbringing involves his own sort of gaps in knowledge and naivety due to what he has and hasn't experienced in a Brotherhood camp. Also, it's because of Maximus' portions that we get this great look at what exploring and fighting is like with Power Armor.

As for The Ghoul, he's something of the audience window into the world. Due to the length of his lifespan, we're gaining greater insight into what's happened to the world and United States as a result of the Great War and bombs dropping. While his role is the closest to being a true antagonist among the main "three," it also helps us better understand morality in this new world and who the viewer may want to "side" with as they watch.

But it isn't just this presentation of multiple viewpoints and ensuring that the viewer understands what happened in the past and is going on in the present that makes someone feel like the creators of season 1 of the Fallout Amazon TV show get what is important about the games. It's the way various situations are handled. It doesn't only embrace grit and gore, though there are some absolutely brutal moments. (Which is expected! Fallout as a series gets dark!) It also touches on the more heartfelt relationships between people, such as ones between Lucy and her family and the friendship between Maximus and fellow Brotherhood member Dane.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qljE3C6Gn18&ab_channel=PrimeVideo

It also can be just genuinely funny. This isn't just when certain side characters come up either. Purnell's earnest portrayal as Lucy means some situations that wouldn't normally be comical are darkly hilarious. Moten, as Maximus, gets a few of these moments too. Often, because he gets carried away with his mission. Though during some segments with the Power Armor, it reminded me of how an overenthusiastic player might react in a game to a similar situation. When Goggins has his moments as The Ghoul, they're more dry and sarcastic.

It also helps that all of the settings are absolutely perfect. Depictions of Vaults are amazing. The pre-war society offers this great contrast to everything we see after the bombs dropped. There are many places in the game that you can tell are pulling directly from Bethesda's exact locations in-game for inspiration. The props, the buildings, the costume design, and characters' personalities all fit. The only things that disappointed me is that I noticed a few plot points or elements reminded me of situations or circumstances seen in Game of Thrones and Westworld, and that really stuck out compared to the more original circumstances and situations that also felt like they fit the series and were more innovative.

Season 1 of Amazon's Fallout feels like it really captures the drama, heartbreak, horror, and even comedy of the games. The decision to follow multiple protagonists and show their unique wasteland experience help better detail the experience for newcomers. It also means we're getting lots of lore, as well as fun Easter eggs referencing the games. I'm excited to see where season 2 will take us.

Fallout season 1 will begin streaming on Amazon on April 10, 2024.

zenless zone zero ps5

The Zenless Zone Zero technical test sign-up for the PS5 is now open. You'll have until April 17, 2024 to sign up.

You can do so via this link here. This is a technical test that will be rather similar to the beta tests that HoYoVerse held in the past. You can read our preview of the last test HoYoVerse had for Zenless Zone Zero (PC) here. If HoYoVerse chooses you, you will receive an e-mail informing you. There does not seem to be any specific qualification outside of needing to be over sixteen years old. This means that anybody can participate so long as they're over sixteen and have a PS5.

Zenless Zone Zero is a new upcoming game from HoYoVerse, though it will not take place in the same world as Genshin Impact, Honkai, or any of the other games that HoYoVerse released in the past. It'll take place in the post-apocalyptic and futuristic city of New Eridu. In New Eridu, there is a phenomenon in which portals called Hollows exist. Some people can enter these dangerous Hollows for various reasons and jobs. You'll play as a Proxy, who is able to guide people around the Hollow as a form of mission control.

Zenless Zone Zero is in development and will come out in 2024 for the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.
