PCGamesN Monday, May 20, 2024 12:08 PM Ghost of Tsushima runs incredibly well on the Steam Deck, but to my surprise, Valve has rated it as Unsupported. The game's handheld performance is arguably the best of any PS5 port so far, so why would Valve not give it, at the very least, a Playable rating? Well, there's one small issue preventing the game from getting a better rating, and I can't help but feel like Valve is making a huge mistake with how it is handling this situation. I've tested Ghost of Tsushima on the Steam Deck OLED and the performance is fantastic. You can see exactly what settings I'm using in our Steam Deck compatibility guide. Valve's decision to slap the game with an Unsupported rating, then, is down to one game mode not working because it needs to access PlayStation network features, which right now is only possible on Windows devices. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, May 20, 2024 11:14 AM I may have winced a bit, initially, at Alice Bee's choice of RPS Game Club game for this month. Deathbulge: Battle of the Bands looked funny and all, but it's a turn-based RPG, a subgenre that usually elicits the same amount of enthusiasm from me as the phrase "by Ernest Cline" does from Alice. Deathbulge, however, is a clever little sod of a game, managing to devise not only a turn-based combat system that avoids the usual waiting-around tedium but one that's outright good fun in itself. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, May 20, 2024 10:01 AM There are management games and there are micro-management games. Prison Architect 2 is the latter. I don't mean this as an annoying thing, like when Harold from corporate starts commenting all over your document at 4.30pm on a Friday. I mean it as a distinction between those games that let you plop down a house, and others that need you to stack the bricks, install the plumbing, fit the lights, and select the wallpaper. The first Prison Architect allowed you to finesse every detail of a secure correctional facility, down to each cell and dog kennel. Unsurprisingly for a sim about prison, it encouraged obsessive control. The 3D-ified sequel isn't finished yet, but it's taking a similar approach. Maybe a little too similar. |

Larian Studios, known for RPGs Like Baldur's Gate 3 and the Divinity series, are expanding the company's horizons with the announcement of a new studio in Warsaw, Poland. This move comes on the heels of the company's previously announced plans for two new RPGs, both of which are in active development.
Here is the official announcement of the Warsaw studio. It also includes the logo.
The main Larian Studios location is in Ghent, Belgium, and the latest branch in Warsaw, Poland marks its seventh one so far. Its announcement didn't note any sort of specific work that this division will be doing. It only noted that the new studio is open and will begin contributing to the developer's work on upcoming projects.
We don't know exactly what Larian Studios has planned next, aside from knowing the company does have two games in development. We know Patch 7 is in the works for Baldur's Gate 3. It looks like Anycolor is teasing a new Nijisanji English Vtuber generation on social media. It shared a picture of an open gate on its Nijisanji EN Official account.
Here is the official image and teaser. It doesn't include any text or alt text. The black gate is depicted as being opened, suggesting some new performers could be about to exit.
The last Nijisanji English Vtuber generation was TTT. That group debuted in October 2023. It consists of Claude Clawmark, Kunai Nakasato, and Victoria Brightshield. Back in January 2024, it noted that its auditions were opened once again.
However, we did see a new branch of Japanese Nijisanji performers appear fairly recently. 3SKM launched in March 2024. There are only three members in this round. They are Kaisei, Kitami Yusei, and Sakaki Ness. Two of them may look familiar, as both Ness and Yusei were former Anycolor Virtual Talent Academy members.
Anycolor experienced many issues throughout 2023 and 2024. In addition to multiple terminations and graduations, the company faced accusations of confidentiality violations, merchandise cancellations, and issued an apology statement. Most recently, the company instituted a lockdown and partial purge of the Nijisanji subreddit.
A new Nijisanji English generation looks to be on the horizon, though there is no name for them or debut date yet.

Idea Factory International announced that Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, 2, and 3 won't appeared on the Switch eShop in North America and Europe on May 21, 2024. The company also didn't explain why the titles are delayed or when we might expect to see them appear on the system.
Here is the full, short, official statement from Idea Factory International regarding the Switch versions of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, 2, and 3. It originally announced the three games would come to the system back on April 26, 2024. No physical versions were confirmed.
As previously announced, the Neptunia Re;Birth series was set to release digitally on the Nintendo eShop on May 21. We regrettably announce that the digital release for Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 Sisters Generation, and Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3 V Generation is postponed until further notice. Further details will be provided at a later date.
Idea Factory and Compile Heart haven't made any similar delay announcements regarding the Japanese release of the games yet. Back in February 2024, the developer confirmed that all three of the original titles would appear on the system.
The three games are available on other platforms right now. For example, one of the easiest ways to acquire and play them is to grab them from Steam. All three of the titles are available there. Each one is the updated release of one of the original three entries in the series.

A new collaboration campaign featuring the Vtuber group Hololive Gamers will appear at the Japanese steakhouse chain Ikinari Steak throughout June 2024. Exclusive packaging and merchandise decorated with the four Vtubers—Shirakami Fubuki, Nekomata Okayu, Inugami Korone, and Ookami Mio—will appear in this campaign. While Ikinari Steak has also prepared a link to the official webpage, it will only actually open the page on May 24, 2024. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
The outlets will play music related to the Vtubers for the duration of this event. People can order a special set containing the Shoulder Loin Steak or Fillet Steak that costs 500 yen. The set will include black oolong tea with special drink packaging and a bonus novelty item. The latter will depend on the date; the first half up to June 15, 2024, will include a clear file, while the second half from June 16, 2024, will instead come with a tin badge.
While all outlets of the chain across Japan will feature the collaboration, four of them will go a step further by adding decorations based on the Vtubers and selling more merchandise. People who have the LINE app mogily can also download exclusive wallpapers featuring the Vtubers. However, visitors must still order food at the outlets before they are allowed access to the merchandise shop. These outlets will be located at West Ikebukuro, Suehirocho in Tokyo, Osu in Nagoya, and Fukushima in Osaka.
The Hololive Gamers collaboration campaign will take place at Ikinari Steak outlets across Japan on June 1-30, 2024.

Ahead of Smile Fest 2024 Tokyo and Osaka, Good Smile Company revealed a limited edition Chun-Li Pop Up Parade Street Fighter figure of her in a pink costume. She will cost ¥5,000 (~$32) at the event and when sold online.
This Chun-Li Pop Up Parade figure should look familiar, as the Street Fighter heroine joined the line back in 2022 alongside Cammy. This 2024 figure is based on that exact collectible. The only difference is her dress is pink instead of blue. Her hair accessories, wrist bands, tights, and shoes are all the same color. This will be a limited edition release. However, Good Smile Company didn't clarify how "limited" it will be.
While this figure isn't available yet, Good Smile Company already shared final photos of it with us.
To compare it to the original, here are the two versions of Chun-Li side-by-side.
This will mark the third version of the fighter in the Pop Up Parade line. One based on her Street Fighter 6 appearance ended up being announced at the end of 2023.
The Street Fighter Chun-Li Pink Pop Up Parade figure variant will be sold at Smile Fest 2024 Tokyo, with online sales appearing alongside that. Good Smile Company will hold Smile Fest 2024 Tokyo on June 22-23, 2024, followed by the Osaka event on August 3-4, 2024.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin was one of my favorite games for 2021 on Nintendo Switch, and I certainly consider it one of the most underrated JRPGs from this decade. The game is finally coming to PlayStation consoles with a long-awaited PS4 port. Three years later, it still feels good after spending a little time with this release.
It turns out, Monster Hunter Stories 2 works just as well on PS4 as it did back on the Nintendo Switch. Based on my early experience, it honestly may be even better. I never played this game on the PC, so I didn't get to benefit from the performance and visual improvements there. Trying the port via my PS5 involved seeing some noticeable differences.
For one, the resolution is sharper. Monster Hunter Stories 2 looks better on a TV now than it did when I first played it in TV mode on the Switch. In addition, the performance in the game ensures its frame rate was pretty solid during my time testing this version. I used this opportunity to run through the first few opening hours I was quite familiar with already. The game wastes no time kicking off with a bombastic opening, before slowing down for a relaxing island life vibe as your player character — a Monster Rider rather than Hunter like the core series — sets out to learn the ropes.
The initial area of Hakolo Island instantly looked so much better in this version. The coastline looked stunning, while my custom character and the monsters didn't look fuzzy or anything like I remember on Switch. The almost cel-shaded look of this JRPG looks so stunning when played with backwards compatibility on PS5.
Right off the bat, anyone who plays the core Monster Hunter games should know this is quite a different experience. And this is to its benefit. Monster Hunter Stories 2 on PS4 is more akin to the Pokemon titles. Players go around the world to various regions and collect eggs of various iconic monsters like the Rathalos. You then hatch these eggs to use monsters as your partners in battles. The battles themselves take place with a strict triangular elemental system.
This system boils down to the red attacks beating the green ones who beat the blue ones and so on. However, there is so much more to this system than meets the eye. For instance, you can find separately from your current monster partner at any time. This makes for a nice double battle type of situation. However, you can also hop on the back of your pal and team up together. This provides more powerful moves but at the cost of having your hearts shared together. It is a neat and surprisingly deep system, which leaves room for experimentation. After all, you are even able to have your Rider switch through the weapon types a la the core series during battle as well.
All of these different concepts can make the battles long and arduous, which mainline fans may be familiar with. There is immense challenge here to be found for those who desire it. For me, though, I just appreciate the idea of a high-quality, high-budget Pokemon-like game on PlayStation.
There just aren't enough of these types of monster-collecting games of this caliber on the PlayStation. At least, outside of indie titles and some Digimon games. Monster Hunter Stories 2 is one of the finest examples of this engrossing concept and it reeled me in faster than any of the core series titles ever did when it first came out, and the PS4 release seems poised to do the same. If the first few hours of hatching eggs and completing side quests are anything to go by, this gorgeous and smoother port on PlayStation will likely reel me in once again.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin releases on the PS4 on June 14, 2024.

HoYoVerse announced on both the Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail social media accounts that the US versions of the games will feature updated price notices for Primogem and Stellar Jade currency. It noted this move is designed to comply with tax collection regulations and will appear starting on June 3, 2024.
The messaging for the change is largely the same in both announcements. In each case, HoYoVerse noted the Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail top-up center and PC site will feature an updated currency price for Primogems and Stellar Jades. In each case it will show the base price with taxes and fees included. At the moment now, only the base price is shown for the items. So if someone were to buy 1,980 Genesis Crystals to put toward Primogems for Genshin Impact right now, the price would say $29.99. (Honkai: Star Rail likewise gives someone 1,980 Oneiric Shards to put toward Stellar Jades for $29.99.) After this change is implemented, the displayed price should be higher due to including associated taxes and fees.
People are already paying these taxes and fees for the currency in games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. It's just the pages to buy them don't show the final price with those additional costs associated with the packs right now.
Here's one of the full notices, to help offer the official explanation for the changes:
There's no such notice yet on the Tears of Themis or Honkai Impact 3rd social media accounts. However, it is possible this change could apply to both of those HoYoVerse games as well.
Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

Brace yourself, because I might make you feel old. Monster Hunter Stories turns eight this year, ahead of the Switch, PS4, and PC remaster. A lot's happened since then, like mobile ports and a sequel. After going through the introduction, it still feels like a fresh spin-off that involved Capcom taking a chance to try new things.
For those who missed it the first time around or the sequel, the world of Monster Hunter Stories involves people people who are riders. They take monster eggs from nests, go through hatching ceremonies to bond with the creatures, then right and fight alongside them as trusted friends. This first installment involves a young rider who is just coming of age and taking their first steps in the role, while also dealing with a world-threatening plight affecting monsters called the Black Blight.
In these earliest moments, the main thing I noticed is how much fresher Monster Hunter Stories looked with this remaster. Capcom always ensured it was a bright, colorful game that managed to make certain monsters seem cuter than their traditional forms. It's very much an anime-style romp, giving us a chance to live Pokemon-like dreams with elder dragon beings that would normally crush us and pick their teeth with our bones. Things are especially crisp and seemed even more vivid now, with the early textures, areas, and characters rendered well.
I also began to better appreciate just how cartoonish this original Monster Hunter Stories is. It relies so heavily upon the same sorts of story beats and character backgrounds as popular anime series geared towards kids. Combined with the even more vibrant world, it feels even more like a cartoon itself. It's a good thing, especially since from my past encounter with it I recall it getting more complex. The inclusion of full voice acting, including dual audio, helps with that immersion.
As with the actual gameplay experience, I didn't get to spend as much time going through the Museum Mode for the Monster Hunter Stories remaster yet. However, what I have see helps show exactly how true-to-life the actual game is compared to the original concept art and designs. I mainly looked at some of the character designs, but seeing the progression and reading the developers' thoughts seems as insightful as ever.
Even after just returning to Monster Hunter Stories, the remaster is starting to make me appreciate this spin-off series even more.It really dared to do something different. Getting to check development art and re-experience it makes me appreciate what Capcom started.
The Monster Hunter Stories remaster will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC on June 14, 2024. It is also available on the 3DS and mobile devices.

The main banner features Lapis, Nel, Embla and the duo unit Sharena with Veronica. All of them are available as five-star characters, though Nel can also appear as a four-star. Each one is wearing a wedding gown. Embla is a colorless, flying, beast-type unit. Lapis is a sword-wielding cavalry fighter. Nel is a green, infantry dragon. There is only one groom character this year. The announcement tweet noted that Alcryst: Tender Groom is a Tempest Trials+ reward for going through that mode. People can earn one four-star and one five-star version of him by playing.
Here is the 2024 Fire Emblem Heroes bridal banner trailer showing off Embla, Lapis, Nel, and the Sharena and Veronica duo unit.
