PCGamesN Thursday, June 6, 2024 1:51 PM There are a great many tragedies both big and small in the gaming industry and one of them is the lack of attention Marvel's Midnight Suns has received. An instant classic that combines RPGs, strategy games, and card battlers with supernatural superhero shenanigans, developed by the team behind XCOM? PCGamesN Thursday, June 6, 2024 11:59 AM It's been a long time since we've seen a new horizontal desktop PC case outside the world of HTPCs, but be quiet! has just resurrected the concept with its new glass gaming PC case. Like an old 486 PC from the 1990s, the new be quiet! Light Base 600 has a horizontal layout, and it looks a lot better than the off-white desktop cases of the dark ages too. We spotted this new be quiet! case while we were wandering the Computex show floor. Sadly, it looks too tall to be able to comfortably mount your monitor on top of it like the classic horizontal case designs, but doing so would wreck your view of the interior anyway. It has a very different design from any of the chassis on our best PC case guide, though, and I'd love to see the horizontal form factor take off again. PCGamesN Thursday, June 6, 2024 11:02 AM When was the Killer Klowns game release date? 1988 - the year that gave us this writer (you're welcome), we were all playing the Sega Genesis, and the internet wasn't publicly available yet. It was a banner year for movies too, thanks to classics like Cocktail, My Neighbour Totoro, Die Hard, Beetlejuice, Child's Play, and too many more to list. 1988 was also the year of the kitsch, camp B-movie Killer Klowns from Outer Space, a sci-fi, horror comedy that became a cult classic and is probably even better today thanks to the nostalgic imprint of the '80s. 2024 - the world would stop functioning without the internet; it feels like almost every new movie is a Marvel movie; Disney owns, well, everything; and videogames are taking over the world. Luckily, some killer clowns brightened the year with their own videogame, taking on the film-adapted, asymmetrical multiplayer genre as the likes of Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Friday 13th have attempted before. Made by Illfonic and Teravision Games, Killer Klowns from Outer Space the Game puts you in the shoes of either the creepy killer clowns themselves or the survivors trying to avoid falling victim to their colorful sci-fi weapons in this horror game - and we can't remember the last time we had more fun. PCGamesN Thursday, June 6, 2024 11:12 AM What are the best Elden Ring talismans? Talismans are Elden Ring's version of rings from previous Souls games. Each talisman bestows a passive buff, with effects ranging from general boons like faster stamina regen to increased damage for the final attack in a Twinblade combo. You can find an array of the best Elden Ring talismans in the RPG game's vast open world; some in treasure chests in Elden Ring dungeons, some drop as loot from enemies and bosses, and others can be bought from merchants. Though their utility will vary based on your Elden Ring build and which of the best Elden Ring weapons you're using, talismans provide a much-needed helping hand when taking on Elden Ring bosses. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, June 6, 2024 3:58 PM It's a new month, which means Microsoft have detailed a new batch of games arriving on Game Pass. Not all of the games themselves are new, mind you: they include Octopath Traveler, the HD-2D RPG released in 2018, and its sequel. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, June 6, 2024 11:51 AM I've been scouring Steam Next Fest demos specifically for something laid back, and Spilled! – despite sounding like the title of a musical about upturned milk – has delivered nicely. It's a light and breezy ocean cleanup game that has you sailing a cute lil' boat around polluted seas, cleansing oil patches and scooping up plastic bottles. Even if it doesn't have the every-last-speck detailing of PowerWash Simulator or Viscera Cleanup Detail, it satisfies in very similar ways, and I would very much like to get back out on the water whenever the full game is complete. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, June 6, 2024 11:31 AM Back in the day I used to be one of those Counter Strike players who'd hop into a custom aim-training 'environment'. I'd spend a good ten minutes or so darting my eyes between blobs or skittish enemy models then whipping my wrist to blast them with an AK. Glyphica reminds me of those heady days. It's a roguelite horde survival game where you've got to protect your central pewpew from an onslaught of words. I think it's the perfect warm up for someone who's about to do a big essay or maybe defend Dark Souls 2 in an errant comments section. It's fun! |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, June 6, 2024 9:47 AM Maybe you can relate, but I tend to find I crave twee and colorful things proportionally inverse to my melancholy. If I'm having a good week, give me Fear and Hunger and horrible films like Speak No Evil. If, like this week for some reason, I feel like bursting into tears at inopportune moments, I need silly little guys doing whimsical activities. Enter Dungeon Clawler. It's a vaguely Slay The Spire-ish roguelite where you grab weapons from a claw machine while you fight. It's got lazy Steam Deck depression nap written all over it. The main theme reminds me of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and the character I picked is named Sir Bunalot. |

The June 2024 Feh Channel is live, and it introduced new Fire Emblem Heroes story characters Heidrun, Eikbyrnir, and Laeradr, new playable units Jarod, Leonardo, Attuned Micaiah, and Rearmed Sothe, and other events. The new 8.6.0 update events and banners begin in earnest starting on June 7, 2024.
The Feh Channel first started with a trailer for Book VIII's events. That is when we got a look at the new Fire Emblem Heroes characters Heidrun, Eikbyrnir, and Laeradr. Laeradr is the leader of The Quieting Hands and the "father" Ratatoskr and her siblings referred to. Alfonse, Sharena, the summoner, and their crew head to Yggdrasill after the repeated assassination attempts in the first part of this storyline, and now we're seeing a major confrontation with the antagonists. From there, it b4ings up the midpoint celebration that includes celebratory quests, login bonuses, a Double AHR event, double and quintuple EXP and SP opportunities, and daily hero summoning event revival banners.
After that, the new Fire Emblem Heroes banner with Jarod, Leonardo, Attuned Micaiah, and Rearmed Sothe appeared. All of them are five-star units, though Leonardo also will appear as a four-star as well. That will also include the spark feature, with people able to spark after 40 and 80 pulls and select one focus unit from the banner. That summoning event ends on June 27, 2024.
The rest of the video went over the new gameplay mode. United Warfront event will be added to the game. The event starts June 12, 2024, and it involves using others' units as you play.
Here's the full June 2024 Feh Channel:

Adol's prototype is already fully painted, and Kotobukiya has also confirmed that it will open pre-orders for his figure on June 18, 2024, while the prototype for Dana's figure is still unpainted, so it will take more time until the company is ready to launch pre-orders for her figure.
Regardless of the prototypes' statuses, Kotobukiya has also put up both prototypes for display at its Akihabara store. The company also confirmed that both figures will have the same 1/7 scale.
Here is the tweet revealing the painted prototype of Ys VIII Adol Christin's figure:
And here is the other tweet showing the unpainted prototype of Dana Iclucia's figure:

Kotobukiya will open pre-orders for the 1/7 scale figure of Adol Christin from Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. The company will launch pre-orders for Dana Iclucia's figure at a later time, after it has finished painting her prototype. As a reminder, Ys VIII appeared first on PlayStation Vita in Japan in 2016. Square Enix announced the launch date for the FFXIV Shadow European Data Center, which will add four new worlds to the region, and it's quite soon. Following the May 2024 announcement, players will be able to move in on June 11, 2024.
The update didn't just include a launch window. It also included the reveal that there will be four Worlds on the FFXIV Shadow European Data Center. When the new location was announced, the company only listed three. These were Innocence, Pixie, and Titania. However, that number was brought up by one for launch. Tycoon will also be available. All worlds will be listed as "probationary," even though they will be free and open for new arrivals.
The official announcement also confirmed that people will get Home World Transfer Service and World Population Balancing Incentives bonuses for migrating over to the new worlds. As usual, these include Double XP until level 80, 10 Silver Chocobo Feathers, 1,000,000 gill, and 15 days of free play time if someone makes a new character. If someone has an existing character head over there, they get Double XP until level 80, free Home World Transfer Service, and 10 Gold Chocobo Feathers.
There aren't the only new Worlds appearing that day. Square Enix already announced June 11, 2024 is the day the North American Dynamis Data Center gets four new Worlds as well.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Dawntrail expansion will arrive on July 2, 2024. The FFXIV European Data Center Shadow and its four Worlds will open on June 11, 2024.

Earlier in June 2024, Kuro Game announced it would bump up the release of the Wuthering Waves Yinlin Resonator banner. Now that it is live in the game, there are new trailers highlighting the five-star character to explain why players may want to attempt to pull for her.
The video essentially shows Yinlin's unique skillset. She's a puppetmaster adept at going undercover. So during the course of her investigation, we see her masquerade as a street performer, an employee at a crooked company, and even a member of the group that is attempting to engage in illegal behavior. After that, we get to see her use her Zapstring to unleash electro damage to enemies.
Here is the Yinlin Wuthering Waves Resonator Showcase trailer:
There's also another brief trailer on social media highlighting her. It focuses more on her character design and general information.
She isn't the only five-star character people can pull for on the gacha banners right now. Jiyan is also around. His banner ends before hers though, due to him being released at launch. So you only have until June 12, 2024 to attempt to add him to your roster.
Wuthering Waves is available on PCs and mobile devices, and the Yinlin and Jiyan Resonator banners are live in the game now.

Playtonic games announced a Yooka-Laylee remaster, which is called Yooka-Replaylee during the June 2024 Guerrilla Collective showcase. This comes nine years after its Kickstarter and seven years after its 2017 launch.
While this is a remaster, it is also described as an enhanced one with new features and quality of life changes. So the initial screenshots showed some of the new art updates. However, it also doesn't show some of the new additions. So there will be a world map and challenges tracker, to help people see where they are and what they're doing. There will also be new challenges and secrets to uncover. In terms of making it easier to play, there will be new controls to use, the camera is fixed, and people can head into the options to adjust different accessibility features.
Here's the first Yooka-Replaylee trailer for the Yooka-Laylee remaster that shows all of the new features and content in action.
And here are some initial screenshots showing how the remaster will look when it's available.
More information is also on the way. On June 11, 2024, Playtonic will host a Q&A session on its YouTube channel that goes over the remaster and its development.
The Yooka-Replaylee remaster is in development for consoles and PCs.

Demonschool is the type of game I saw in a trailer, then immediately wanted to check out. The spooky vibes, school setting, and demon battles all scream Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. Unfortunately, after my time with the Demonschool Steam Next Fest demo, I am quite disappointed in one particular element.
Demonschool takes place on a mysterious island. It follows a group of students who become demon hunters to save the world before an inevitable collapse. Like Persona, the game follows a familiar daily life schedule with daytime and nighttime aspects. Players pick what they want to do during certain times of day to fill in the time between dungeons.
These daily activities even include training skills and getting to know the various characters on the island. And, yes, this even includes a classic relationship system with around 15 different characters. Since this demo only covered about a week of in-game time, I, unfortunately, didn't get to dive too much into that aspect.
But what I did spend time with, and regretted immediately, was the combat system. At a glance, Demonschool's battles look like they involve traditional, turn-based combat on a grid. In fact, the character models' appearance and the isometric view felt like a callback to the very first Persona or even Devil Survivor. However, it is unfortunately like neither of those outside of appearances.
The battles involve players zipping around the spaces to hit enemies on each turn. You can queue up a bunch of actions, then execute them or just do a single attack and leave it there. There is the freedom to rewind and change actions, if necessary, so there is plenty of room for experimentation. However, the problem is that there seems to be almost no depth to the combat in the first place. Your characters have a move based on action points and a single attack, and that's pretty much it. There is a special attack you can build up a meter for, but this does little to diversify the battles.
This is not at all the usual grid experience where you have different skills and perhaps they affect different patterns on the grid. Nope! This is just move, attack, move again, and repeat. You can perform combos by attacking the same enemy with a party member for buffs and debuffs, but that does little to entertain. Essentially every battle had the same idea and structure to it in the Demonschool demo. It left the blandest possible impression. It made me wish I could just skip battles or turn on an auto feature. I imagine it gets a little deeper later on, but I'm not confident about that. It's a shame, too, because everything else about this indie title seems stellar.
The characters are colorful and fun, and I enjoyed talking to them. The villains (or rival-like characters I met) left me intrigued and wanting to find out more about them. The gameplay structure for the daily life portions feels much more interesting and well done when compared to a game like Eternights. The art style is also notably fantastic, thanks to its grim, moody, and vibrant graphics.
The world felt fun to explore, while the story did enough to have me invested in what developer Necrosoft Games is cooking up. This is why it is such a shame Demonschool feels exactly how I felt about 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. The story, characters, exploration, and art style fire on all cylinders, but are severely let down by the forgettable and shallow combat.
Demonschool is currently planned for release on PC via Steam in 2024.

Build-a-Bear launched its latest Pokemon plush, and it is the Snorlax baby form Munchlax. It costs $66 in the US storefront and £52 in the UK one for the special bundle online, though it is possible people will eventually be able to find the plush alone in-stores for $34/£26 like other entries in this line.
As Munchlax is a baby Pokemon, elements in the Build-a-Bear online exclusive bundle are a nod to that. To start, you get the stuffed animal in the bundle. It is apparently 13 inches tall. It comes with a five-on-one sound chip, which is only available with this online bundle. You also get a bib and a Tamato Berry it can hold. (That two-pack would apparently be a $10.50/£9 value.) Things are rounded out with a Heavy Ball hoodie for the character to wear. (That is assigned a $13.50/£11 value.) This has a design reminiscent of the Poke Ball of the same name, which is designed to be better at catching heavier Pokemon.
Here's a closer look at the plush and its items.
Snorlax is already a part of Build-a-Bear's Pokemon collection. It debuted on the site back in August 2019. It's an extra-large one, so it doesn't fit standard clothing and is more expensive. It's returned from time to time since its launch, though it isn't in the US or UK storefront at the moment.
Munchlax is now available via Build-a-Bear.

Kotobukiya revealed that it will release a new model kit based on the Lineark White Glint from Armored Core: For Answer in November 2024 with an MSRP of 12,100 yen (~$77.45). This new version will include the large booster pack known as Vanguard Overed Boost (V.O.B.) that appeared in the game's opening movie. Pre-orders for the new kit have also opened on Kotobukiya Online Shop and other web stores like HobbyLink Japan and AmiAmi.
As a reminder, the For Answer version of White Glint differs from the original unit by Aspina that appeared in Armored Core 4. While Kotobukiya had also previously released model kits based on the Lineark White Glint, the prior version did not include the V.O.B. extension. The latter will provide an additional length of around 180mm (~7.086 inches) to the finished kit. The new package will also have a base pedestal that mentions both the White Glint and the Vanguard Overed Boost.
Here are some of the sample images featuring the For Answer White Glint with the V.O.B. extension. Kotobukiya added fine print to some of the images, noting that it will provide a different stand in the final package.
At the same time, Kotobukiya also announced a restock of the Crest CR-C840/UL Lightweight Class model kit from Armored Core 3. The company has been gradually re-releasing its prior kits from the series, including the Nineball Seraph. It is also working on a brand-new model kit based on V.IV Rusty's Steel Haze from the newest entry Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon.
The Variable Infinity model kit of the Lineark White Glint with the Vanguard Overed Boost extension from Armored Core: For Answer will be available in November 2024.

An indie Hololive strategy RPG inspired by the mecha crossover game series Super Robot Wars is in the works. Indie developer TShadowKnight has published the first free public beta release for Super Holo Wars on itch.io, and this beta build is playable in English on PCs and mobile devices via RPG Maker MV game players.
Super Holo Wars will have an original storyline that features Hololive Production's talent Vtubers and staff members pilot robots called HoloGears. The first beta release has the first out of two planned chapters fully playable with a number of stages. However, only the Gears from the first 11 stages have their unique attack animations finished. The developer's team will continue working on the animations for the remaining units and stages.
The developer is creating this game using RPG Maker MV with additional engines that make it support the Strategy RPG genre in general and Super Robot Wars-like gameplay system to be more specific. The engines in question are SRPG Engine MV, which has since been developed further into SRPG Gear MV, and the SRW Engine MV expansion self-developed by TShadowKnight.
The Hololive indie game development scene has seen a surge in recent months, especially after Cover established the Holo Indie brand. The company has since helped developers worldwide release PC games themed after Hololive Vtubers, such as Holo X Break, Idol Showdown, Miko Sniper, and DUEHOLO.
The first public beta release of Super Holo Wars is available to play on PCs and mobile devices.

Ahead of the release of SMT V: Vengeance, Atlus shared some words from Ayana Taketatsu, the Japanese voice actress for Nuwa. In the post shared on the official social media for the game, the actress talks about her experiences lending her voice to the mysterious character.
Ayana Taketatsu starts by saying that Nuwa is a captivating and beautiful character, and at the same time quite frightening. What she finds most appealing about Nuwa is her air of mystery, and how you can never truly know what she's thinking. Taketatsu also added that her role as Nuwa in SMT V and SMT V: Vengeance is the most challenging character she has had the opportunity to play.
After the release of the game, many people were surprised to discover that Ayana Taketatsu played the role of Nuwa, and the voice actress expressed her happiness to increase the range of roles she performs. Taketatsu said that new scenes for Nuwa have been recorded for Vengeance, and she looks forward to players discovering them.
Aside from her role as Nuwa in SMT V, Ayana Taketatsu has also voiced Labrys in the Persona 4 Arena fighting game series, Nino Nakano in The Quintessential Quintuplets franchise, Azusa Nakano in K-On!, and Leafa in the Sword Art Online series.
In a similar fashion, the Japanese voice actress for Sahori Itsukishima, Lynn, recently shared some words about her character and her experiences recording for SMT V and the upcoming Vengeance expanded released.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto talked about the recent trailer for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, and gave details about how Konami and Bloober Team decided to remake the cult classic title. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
The interview starts with Okamoto discussing how both Konami and Bloober Team felt about changing the original game. Some of the Japanese staff members working on the game, including artist Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka, were open to changes and additions.
As for Bloober Team, the developers insisted on keeping some elements from the original untouched in the remake. This lead to occasional clashes of opinions, but Okamoto said the developers managed to find a common ground. Furthermore, because Bloober Team is a fan of Silent Hill 2, they ended up with a game that highly respects the original.
Regarding these changes, the producer revealed that the intro in Silent Hill 2 remake has been kept almost the same. One of the key differences comes from the first combat encounter. Because there is not a big focus in combat in Silent Hill 2, the development team wanted to make it so the first encounter appears later in the game than in the original. At first, the introduction to combat happened quite later than in the original game. However, the developers were worried that the game might be too boring, so they decided against having the first enemy appearing too late.
When asked if the game will include new enemies or monsters, Okamoto said that it was tempting, but they decided against it. Because every enemy in Silent Hill 2 is very deliberate and has a meaning to the narrative of the game, adding new creatures would have been impossible. However, Okamoto said that the familiar monsters and creatures might have new or different movements from the original game.
The Silent Hill 2 remake will appear on October 8, 2024 for the PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. A new gameplay trailer appeared during the latest Sony State of Play.
