PCGamesN Tuesday, June 11, 2024 12:13 PM With AMD's new Zen 5 CPUs waiting in the wings for their July release, we're seeing the prices of AMD's existing CPUs being slashed to bits all over the place. The latest AMD CPU deal we've spotted is for the Ryzen 5700X3D, which has now dropped below the $200 mark, with a price of just $199.98. This is a great, inexpensive upgrade if you already own an AMD gaming rig with a Socket AM4 motherboard. The Ryzen 7 5700X3D was released by AMD earlier this year for a price of $249, so it's amazing to see 20% cut off the price already. This isn't just any CPU either. PCGamesN Tuesday, June 11, 2024 11:52 AM When I saw the trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard during the 2024 Xbox Showcase, I cried - full blown cried. I've been waiting for the fourth installment in the ongoing saga for what feels like as long as I can remember, and while the trailer is everything I expected and more, it did feel very clean. For me, one of the best parts of Dragon Age is emerging from combat covered in blood, guts, and Darkspawn gore, but there's a distinct lack of bodily fluids in the trailer. At a sunny picnic table - a quiet spot amid the chaos of Summer Game Fest - I ask creative director John Epler about the response to the trailer, and he assures me that the dark fantasy we love is still very much alive in Thedas. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, June 11, 2024 1:38 PM I'm a little sheepish about how much I'm looking forward to Cat Quest 3. It's neither big budget and mainstream, nor a conceptually thrilling indie. If the first two games are anything to go by, it'll be a paint-by-numbers action-RPG with simple combat, lots of grind, and endless cat and dog puns. Yeah. That's why I like it, though. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, June 11, 2024 11:20 AM It took over a month of racing and 220 hours of playtime but a Trackmania player has finally beaten the racing game's most horrendously difficult map. For those of you only now noticing that tens of thousands of Twitch viewers have been religiously watching video game Hot Wheels, let me elucidate. Deep Dip 2 is a fan-made tower of racetracks that was published as a challenge to the racing game's community last month. It is 16 floors of unfathomably difficult ramps, tunnels, ledges, pipes, and beams. A simple mistake sees drivers plummeting to the bottom, like the sad cauldron man of Getting Over It. The first three players to finish would share a prize pool of over $32,000. Over the weekend, one player has now managed it, and another has since joined him. Third place is still up for grabs but, mate, I wouldn't recommend it. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, June 11, 2024 11:07 AM Good news, everybody! Dragon Age: The Veilguard - previously Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, strictly speaking Dragon Age 4 - is not the bantzy heist romp suggested by its debut trailer. Less Good News for returning players: going by the 45 minute segment I was shown at Summer Game Fest, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is more of a single-character action-RPG plus entourage, than a proper party-based affair in the vein of 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition. You do get a party, drawn from a retinue of seven, larger-than-life, romanceable companions encompassing a range of classes, abilities and go-faster hairdos, but control of that party has been streamlined, and there's a God Of Warlike emphasis on booting Fade demons into pits. Hmmm. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, June 11, 2024 8:38 AM I've always loved the art of the Metal Slug series of side-scrolling shooters, so I've been keeping a keen eye on the fetching grid strategy antics of Metal Slug Tactics ever since it was first announced. For as long as I've been excited, I've also been worried. It's been a polarising experience, like being alternately fed delicious sandwiches and those inedible rotlogs they sell at Subway. Still, I've remained cautious: is all this great pixel-art just a shroud pulled over a ho-hum tactics game to rescue it from naffness? It's with this in mind I hungrily dove into the Steam Next Fest demo, as one might hungrily dive into a bin to eat literal garbage if their only other option was Subway. |

Here is a translation of what Hayami said about her role as Tao in SMT V: Vengeance:
"I'm very happy that I was able to read for Tao again! I adjusted the way I performed her lines the closer it was to the end of the story and put a lot of thought in my recording. Aside from this game, I recorded 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim fairly recently and the drama CD for Persona 3 Portable was even earlier I really enjoyed recording for all these Atlus works, which have an established worldview and charm. When I got my role in Shin Megami Tensei V, a lot of people congratulated me, which made me happy, and it made me realize just how much people loved this game.
Soon, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance will come out! I hope everyone—people who played the previous title, as well as those who will start from this one—will enjoy it."

Capcom announced that Resident Evil Village surpassed 10 million units sold worldwide. The game joined prequel Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 as series entries that have reached the major milestone.
Even though the latter two games already have higher lifetime sales with over 13 million units sold as of March 2024, Capcom added that Resident Evil Village also broke the series' time record for reaching the milestone. For comparison, the Resident Evil 2 remake debuted on January 25, 2019, and Capcom announced the major milestone after 1,266 days on July 14, 2022. Capcom released Resident Evil Village on May 7, 2021, so today's announcement means that it reached the 10 million sales milestone earlier in 1,131 days.
The last reported milestone for Village was 8 million units in June 2023. That means in roughly a whole year since then, Capcom has seen two million more units of the game sold. Capcom's Platinum Titles page also showed that Village had gathered 9.80 million units at the end of March 2024. It thus took slightly over two months for the game to amass around 200,000 more units to reach the milestone.
Resident Evil Village is readily available worldwide on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and iOS devices.

Bandai revealed a new mechanical bust gashapon collection featuring the ZGMF/A-262B Strike Freedom Gundam Type II. These bust figures will be based on the upgraded mobile suit that appeared in the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom movie, and Bandai will release the gashapon in late June 2024.
This gashapon will have a similar composition to prior series entries, such as the MSN-04 Sazabi from Char's Counterattack. An attempt on this gashapon will cost 500 yen, and it will let people get one of the three available items encased in a capsule.
The lineup will consist of a regular-colored outer frame, an alternate golden clear version of the outer frame, and an inner frame that includes details for the eyes and chest cannon. In order to craft a complete set, one will have to strive to get the inner frame and one of the available outer frames. They can then move the exterior parts onto the inner frame.
Here are the sample images of the parts that will be available in this gashapon lineup:
The ZGMF/A-262B Strike Freedom Gundam Type II mechanical bust gashapon will be available in Japan in the fifth week of June 2024.

Union Creative opened pre-orders for its upcoming Monster Hunter Rise figures of Hinoa and Minoto on its website. The figures will be available separately at 17,600 yen each. People residing outside Japan can also order via the WorldShopping widget at around $112.10.
Most of the prior figures featuring the Monster Hunter series were focused on monsters like Rathalos, Rathian, and Tigrex. These ones will particularly feature the characters who act as the respective quest receptionists in the Kamura Village and its guild. However, these figures will depict the characters with more anime-like faces as opposed to the actual game.
Both figures will come pre-painted with each set having its own pedestal stand. Minoto's figure will have an approximate total height of 26 cm (~10.24 in), but Hinoa's figure will be measured slightly taller at around 27 cm (~10.63 in) since it includes her longer hair accessory. As another side note, while Minoto has the exact same name in Japanese, Hinoa is alternatively known in the country as Hinoe.
Here are some of the sample images for the upcoming figures:
Union Creative will close the pre-order period for the Monster Hunter Rise figures of Hinoa and Minoto on July 18, 2024. It will formally release the figures in December 2024.

The results for the latest Capcom Super Election survey are now out, and both Devil May Cry 5 and the Dino Crisis series appeared as two of the most popular picks in the poll. The survey originally appeared in early February 2024, and it included 10 questions about a variety of popular Capcom properties and what players would like to see in the future.
The first question in the survey asked players what is their favorite Capcom game among a variety of possible options. Devil May Cry 5 was the number 1 pick with 15,157 votes, followed closely by Dino Crisis with 10,978 and Resident Evil 4 Remake with 9,017 votes globally. Meanwhile, Okami and two titles from the first Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney trilogy sat in the top three positions for voters in Japan. When analyzing this question by age demographic, the age range comprised of people between their 10-20s chose DMC 5 as their favorite, with the demographics comprising 30-40s and 50-60s choosing Dino Crisis.
The second question asked players about their favorite Capcom character, and the top three was marked by Dante, Leon Scott Kennedy, and X from the Mega Man X series. Additionally, Phoenix Wright was the number 2 pick in Japan. Jill Valentine followed by Regina from Dino Crisis were the favorite female Capcom characters among men, with Chun-Li followed by Jill Valentine for women.
Jumping ahead to question number 5, Capcom asked players what game they would like to see receive a sequel or new game. Once again, Dino Crisis was the number one answer with 80,769 votes, followed by the Mega Man series with 63,395 votes and the Devil May Cry series with 60,371 votes globally. Ace Attorney was the number 1 choice for players in Japan with 14,193 votes.
On question number 6, players were asked to choose a Capcom game that they would like to see completely remade with the latest technology. Surprisingly, 87,706 players voted that their desired remake was not available in the list that Capcom provided, with this proving to be the most popular answer. The Onimusha and Breath of Fire trilogies sat in second and third place respectively with 36,895 and 32,006 votes.
Question 9 asked players what is a complaint that they would like to share with Capcom, and players overwhelmingly said that they would like the company to reboot previous Capcom IPs, with 103,331 users voting. For reference, the second most voted answer was "no complaints" with 36,744 votes.

Nintendo warned us that Twitter integration would be removed from the Switch on June 10, 2024, and a new firmware patch takes it out in update 18.1.0. It also makes a number of changes related to the social media platform now known as X.
There are technically three changes that apply to Twitter (now X) and the Nintendo Switch in the patch notes. The first is that options to "post to Twitter" are completely gone. You also can't tie your X account to your system so you can post screenshots or videos to social media. Finally, the Friend Suggestions area in My Page doesn't let you link any accounts anymore. Even if you haven't updated the firmware, however, the option to share a screenshot to social media will only show Facebook as a possibility.
One of the other changes involves the Nintendo Switch Online app, however. In the past, Smash World let people get Super Smash Bros Ultimate from there. That support is now gone.
Here are the full patch notes for the update that brings Switch firmware to 18.1.0:
People can still retrieve screenshots from their Switch via scanning a QR code to get them from a mobile device or via social media sites like Facebook.
The Nintendo Switch is available worldwide, and the patch that will update the firmware to 18.1.0 is live worldwide.

Atlus announced that the company will recast Japanese voice actor Tooru Furuya in the upcoming game Metaphor: ReFantazio, as he was set to portray a character in it. The company hadn't revealed the role that Furuya was originally cast to perform yet.
The announcement of the recast came alongside news of the reveal of the new voice actor in a follow-up announcement set to appear sometime in July 2024. At the time of writing, it is unclear if the Tooru Furuya character being recast will have an effect on the release date of Metaphor: ReFantazio.
While Atlus vaguely stated that the recast will happen for "a variety of reasons." Those familiar with the voice actor will know the reason for the casting decision. In late May 2024 it was revealed that 70-year-old Tooru Furuya was involved in an adultery scandal in which the veteran voice actor impregnated a 37-year-old fan, forced her to abort the child, and even assaulted her in at least one instance in their relationship.
Tooru Furuya is a prolific and renowned Japanese voice actor, known for his roles as Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam, Yamcha in Dragon Ball, and Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon, to name a few.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is currently in development and will come out on October 11, 2024 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam.

A new Myriad Celestia trailer is out for Firefly, the upcoming Fire Destruction character in Honkai: Star Rail. It gives a bit more context and information about her past and her SAM unit.
You can watch the Honkai: Star Rail Firefly Myriad Celestia trailer here:
It's also available in Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
The trailer shows Firefly in her SAM suit, along with other SAM units who are part of the Glamoth military. Though it's against regulations for them to leave their mech suits, she and her companions leave it temporarily in order to enjoy the night sky. At the end of the trailer, they return to their mission and note that they probably won't be able to see each other again until the war ends.
Firefly is an upcoming 5-star Fire Destruction character in Honkai: Star Rail. She is the true identity of SAM, one of the Stellaron Hunters. She also played a very important part in the Penacony Trailblaze Mission. Her kit focuses on decreasing her own HP to boost her attacks.
Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Firefly will debut as a playable character when Version 2.3 goes live on June 19, 2024.

After 11 years, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon left its Nintendo 3DS graveyard and is coming to the Nintendo Switch via a new remaster. I went through the first couple of hours of Luigi's Mansion 2 HD to discover whether it's worth diving into in 2024 or whether it should have stayed in the past.
Back in the Nintendo GameCube era, Luigi's Mansion was one of my favorite games. Fast forward to 2013, and I was so excited to play the sequel Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, on the Nintendo 3DS. I put hours and hours into it, collecting every single Gem. I think I even preferred it to the original title! After getting to experience the remaster on the Nintendo Switch, it brought back all those nostalgic memories. I wasn't sure if I'd remember much of it, given that it'd been so long since I last played the game, but from the second I dived into the first mission in Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, everything came flooding back. It was amazing seeing the game I'd once sunk long hours into in a new light.
In Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, you play as Luigi as you gather pieces of the Dark Moon to restore peace to Evershade Valley. These pieces are skewed throughout various mansions, and it is Luigi's job to best the ghosts inside and collect them using what's ultimately a modded vacuum cleaner called the Poltergust 5000.
Immediately, what stood out to me was how the game looked on the Switch. Gone are the restraints of the Nintendo 3DS 5:3, 800x240 pixel screen, with Luigi's Mansion 2 HD now looking vibrant and beautiful. This seemed especially true on my Nintendo Switch OLED screen, where the colors really popped off the screen. In each mission, you'll need to solve various puzzles in order to progress. Some of them require new tools for the Poltergust 5000, which are unlocked through the story.
I found myself racing through the first handful of missions so that I could unlock new tools to find hidden secrets or Gems. There are several of these Gems scattered throughout the game, each hidden behind a puzzle. For example, in an early mission, you get a Gem by revealing a statue with the Dark-Light Device, an attachment for the Poltergust that allows Luigi to dispel illusions. It's secrets like this that make you want to explore every corner of the mansion to see what you'll discover next - it's great.
As you explore, you'll encounter different types of ghosts, which you must stun and suck up into the Poltergust 5000 so that Professor E. Gadd can study them. Some ghosts are easy to conquer, while others take some work due to blocking your flashlight with sunglasses or other objects. You'll even come across boss ghosts from time to time who have a gimmick you must pull off to defeat them. In the first mansion alone, I saw multiple ghost types and was curious about which one I'd meet next each time I entered a new room.
The one negative that stands out to me in the first couple of hours I played, which has carried over from the Nintendo 3DS original, is the frequency that Professor E. Gadd bothers you via the Dual Scream, a Nintendo 3DS-like device that allows him to call Luigi. Each time there's a new puzzle to solve in the story, he calls you to essentially tell you what you do next rather than letting you figure it out yourself. The first couple of times are fine, given that it's tutorial stuff, but I was still getting these calls a couple of hours in, to the point where I'd physically eye-roll because it was so annoying. I can only hope this happens less as I progress further.
Overall, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD seems like its going to hold up really well on the Nintendo Switch. From what I played so far, the graphics are beautiful, and the gameplay is still as charming as ever. Whether this continues deeper into the game, we'll have to wait and see. But I'm excited to dive back into this classic sequel!
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD will be released on the Nintendo Switch on June 27, 2024.
