PCGamesN Thursday, August 22, 2024 6:42 PM The Knight has never been the most popular killer in Dead by Daylight. Recently, however, a series of changes looked to make this Hungarian swordsman more viable, encouraging longer hunts for his summoned minions. Unfortunately, this all backfired somewhat, with Knight fans being increasingly unhappy with how the killer plays, especially with all minions on a shared cooldown meaning they were useless for large amounts of time. PCGamesN Thursday, August 22, 2024 6:04 PM There are quite a few interesting new shooters on the horizon, but one that I'm really eager to get my hands on is FragPunk. This slick tactical FPS looks very much like Valorant on the surface, but it adds a new layer of strategy with a card system that will test your deck-building skills just as much as your aim. FragPunk just got a fresh trailer with some new snippets of gameplay, which is well worth a watch, but what's even more exciting is that it's just announced a closed beta is coming to Steam and Xbox very soon. PCGamesN Thursday, August 22, 2024 5:17 PM Evolution is how things keep moving - without it we're stuck in cycles of repeating actions, walking over the same old ground until we form ruts. Even for a game like Diablo 4 which at some level must stick to certain fundamentals, it's come a long way since the first title arrived back in 1997. One way it's changed is in terms of who the big bad is, with titular character Diablo missing in action in the current game. We were able to have a chat with Blizzard about everyone's favorite red boy, and if his absence even matters. PCGamesN Thursday, August 22, 2024 4:55 PM While League of Legends has earned itself a bit of a reputation over the years for being a frustrating, rage-inducing, and often hostile game to play online, let's not forget that there are plenty of brilliant, wholesome people in the LoL community too. The MOBA's honor system is one way to show your appreciation in-game, but after admitting that it's a bit lackluster, Riot is giving it an overhaul, and that includes bringing back the ability to honor your opponents. PCGamesN Thursday, August 22, 2024 4:10 PM Realism definitely has its place in videogames, but sometimes all I want to do is embrace the silliness that's possible in the medium. I'm very much down for realistic city builders and in-depth building experiences, but not always. Occasionally I want to throw things around like I'm in a toybox and that's where games like Overthrown step in. This builder lets you construct stuff simply by tossing things about, and it's just as silly - and joyful - as that sounds. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, August 22, 2024 4:47 PM We haven't written about Diplomacy Is Not An Option since it launched in Early Access in 2022, when it was a light and frothy strategy game about smashing thousands of peasants to bits with physics magic. It's still that, but now it's getting a 1.0 release on October 4th. |

NPC Studio announced on social media that Fields of Mistria is now officially Steam Deck verified. The developer also included a photo of the game running on the system to give people an idea of how it looks on the handheld PC.
While it wasn't officially Steam Deck verified until now, many reported Fields of Mistria ran well on the handheld prior to the official update. People discussed it in the Steam Discussions forums immediately after its August 2024 launch, with topics coming up discussing its stability.
This is the second update for the game this week. On August 21, 2024, NPC Studio fixed some major issues. One of them addressed the inability to properly use Steam Cloud save files. Some crashes were addressed, which means people can investigate inventory items without fear of the game quitting on them.
The roadmap for the game for 2024 is live now. While the game is expected to remain in early access until sometime in 2025, we will see romance, villager, dungeon, town, skill, and customization updates before 2024 ends.

Emio - The Smiling Man is a continuation of the underrated Famicom Detective Club series, and I never expected this release to happen. Ahead of the latest game in this surprisingly well-crafted mystery adventure visual novel series' release, I had the chance to preview the first couple of chapters. It seems off to a strong start.
This particular preview is based on the same demo build players can enjoy that includes the prologue and first couple of chapters of the full title, plus a save transfer option for the real deal. Immediately, this game kicks off with certainly the most compelling premise thus far. It feels much more similar to The Girl Who Stands Behind, but even eerier. This isn't a problem for me, since I preferred the prequel of the two original remakes.
The general idea is the returning main characters of the Utsugi Detective Agency start a new investigation after a student is found strangled. To make matters more disturbing, the killer put a paper bag with an unsettling smiley face on his head. This potentially ties back to similar murders 18 years prior.
Everything about this premise centers around the disturbing urban legend of Emio. While we don't find out too much in the first two chapters, the teases about the character are unnerving in all the right ways. The smiley paper bag-wearing killer is by far the creepiest antagonist in the series yet. I would say so far, based on my initial experience, the character is honestly the most memorable as well.
The few scenes that tease his ominous presence generally evoke some horrific imagery. While I wouldn't call this straight-up horror just yet, it leans further into the genre than even the two previous titles. This is helped by a plethora of new side characters, all of which I am heavily suspicious about at this point.
From police detectives to teachers, each of the new characters intrigue, even with their short screen times in the prologue and first two chapters. They have great visual designs, which is helped by the upgraded graphics. This title takes the already fantastic art foundation from the previous remakes and upgrades it further.
Characters move and shift around, having natural movements and expression changes. This is the most dynamic visual novel I've played outside of the Ace Attorney series so far. I may even recommend this to those who don't normally like this genre because of how stunning the environments are and how active everything feels, though I'll wait for a final say on that until the game releases.
It also helps that the pacing is extremely brisk in the Emio - The Smiling Man demo that offers a preview of early chapters. The prologue and first two chapters go by far too quickly, just barely teasing this story. I hope the story slows down a bit more!
The benefit of this is how easy the puzzles seem so far. The gameplay from the past games returns, and it consists primarily of talking and investigating. Most of the time, players engage and ask questions after meeting various characters. This is to find out more information to then ask more questions and so on. Every once in a while, there is the requirement to actually examine the environment or dead body.
Thus far in these first couple of chapters, the questioning and progression of the story is pretty straightforward. This makes it a solid starting point for newcomers from what I've played so far. And for those of us like me who loved the first two games, Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club seems to be setting up the most compelling and thrilling mystery yet.
Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club arrives on the Nintendo Switch on August 29, 2024. A demo is now available.

FFXIV Story Designer Natsuko Ishikawa and Quest Designer Saki Takayanagi will make an appearance at PAX Australia. This was revealed through a social post on X (formerly Twitter) through the official PAX Australia X account. The panel will be held on October 12, 2024 at 1pm - 2pm ACT.
The panel will be held in the main theater with Natsuko Ishikawa and Saki Takayanagi discussing the process of writing engaging and engrossing narrative and quest material for FFXIV. Ishikawa is well known for her contributions to the Coils of Bahamut Raid content, the Dark Knight Job Class questline, and the Shadowbringers expansion.
Ishikawa was also partially responsible for the Endwalker expansion, writing alongside other Main Scenario Writer Banri Oda. Both the Endwalker and Shadowbringers expansions were critically acclaimed and well received by the Final Fantasy XIV community. There was unanimous praise concerning several character storylines and how the narrative concluded. However, her involvement concerning the Main Scenario quests in the MMORPG ended there, as another writer took over for the Dawntrail expansion.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. The FFXIV panel will take place on October 12, 2024 at 1pm - 2pm ACT at PAX Australia.

MARVELOUS and G-MODE have announced Harvest Moon Life and Love (or Bokujou Monogatari Life and Love) will release for PC through Steam. However, a release date has yet to be announced. Additionally, the game will not have English language support.
Harvest Moon Life and Love originally appeared as a mobile game in 2007. Players can choose between a male or female protagonist, and much like previous Harvest Moon titles, will focus on cultivating your farm, raising animals, and mine.
Interestingly enough, the game will support Xbox and PlayStation controllers, with the Steam page stating that this is the preferred way to play the port. The page also has a handful of screenshots, which show conversations between villagers, and the player character tending to their farm.
This title was exclusive to Japan, and to mobile phones, and will be available for the first time on PC (and available to purchase outside of Japan). A release date will be revealed in the future.
Another Harvest Moon mobile game is set to release on August 23, 2024. Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home will include everything life and farming simulator players have come to expect. You'll be able to raise farm animals, tend to crops, and form relationships with villagers.
Harvest Moon Life and Love (or Bokujou Monogatari Life and Love) will release for PC through Steam sometime in the future.
