Look, The Pokémon Company is a giant company that can do whatever it wants. Still, however, one must ask: Is releasing a life-sized posable plush of Gardevoir, the psychic/fairy-type Pokémon who you should never Google without SafeSearch on, perhaps a callous use of one's power? Is it an example of being so…

Best superhero games on PC 2025

What are the best superhero games on PC? After all, the world has comic book fever. Look around and you'll see it: it's all BIFF this and POW that, as they fight for superhero supremacy. People with towels pegged to their shoulders dive into stores, searching with non-X-ray-vision for the best DC games, while those swinging a red, white, and blue painted bin lid peruse the internet for lists of the best Marvel games.

Before this feature spirals off into an inescapable whole of comic references, here is our list of the best superhero games you can play on PC, including two of the best Batman games. That should be enough super-powered goodness to keep you happy until the next blockbuster lands. And the best PC games are super in their own right, too.

This $2,000 bag costs as much as an Nvidia RTX 5090, can carry a whole gaming PC

New medieval game mixes Manor Lords, Cities Skylines, and dynamic building tools

There is something very aesthetically pleasing about the zones and the construction squares in Cities Skylines 2. It's like clicking in jigsaw pieces. After you build your road, you carefully line up industrial, commercial, and residential zones so they'll look neat and almost symmetrical. But what if you want to 'paint' your cityscape with a free hand?      Spider-Man 2 Steam launch is a new low for Sony as players face performance woes

After launching onto Steam on Thursday January 30, Spider-Man 2 has already become the worst-rated PlayStation-published game on the entire platform. The PC port of The Last of Us faced technical issues at launch and its user reviews suffered as a result. Other releases such as Lego Horizon Adventures and the swiftly shuttered Concord have also been met with mixed reception. But citing various performance problems, Spider-Man 2 players have shared sufficient negative responses that the game now bears a 'mixed' rating and has a lower aggregate score than all of Sony's other first-party Steam releases.

Intel Core and AMD Ryzen gaming CPUs could be about to get loads more cores

Just as we thought the number of cores in your average gaming CPU had hit a plateau, it looks as though next-generation Intel Core and AMD Ryzen desktop CPUs could feature many more cores than the CPUs of today. In fact, we could even be looking at 48-core Intel chips and 24-core AMD Ryzen chips, showing a big jump over the 24-core and 16-core threshold today.

That's unlikely to make a big difference if you only use your PC for gaming, especially seeing as the best gaming CPU you can buy right now only has eight cores. However, for desktop users wanting a CPU that can do everything, from gaming to rendering, a new 24-core AMD chip, perhaps called the Ryzen 9 10950X, or a 48-core Intel chip, maybe called the Core Ultra 9 385K, could make a massive difference.

Grab an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X gaming CPU for its lowest ever price, if you're quick

If you've been eagerly watching and waiting for the price of AMD's new Zen 5 CPUs to drop, then you now have a great chance to scoop up a bargain. The AMD Ryzen 5 9600X is now at its cheapest ever price in this Amazon gaming CPU deal, enabling you to save $39 on the usual price. It's a limited-time deal, though, so you'll need to get in quickly.

This new AMD CPU was originally launched at an MSRP of $279, which has always made it a hard sell when its predecessor, the Ryzen 5 7600X, has a much cheaper price. At $240, though, the new CPU makes a lot more sense, with this deal saving you 14% on the list price. It doesn't have the 3D V-cache of the new Ryzen 7 9800X3D to boost gaming performance, but it's a solid foundation if you want to build a gaming PC on a budget.

Where to buy 5070 - retailers to check for stock first

Trying to find out where to buy the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 GPU? If so, you've landed in the right place. We've checked the virtual store shelves of etailers around the world to find where Nvidia's latest mid-range gaming GPU contender can be pre-ordered or where you can setup stock notifications for when the card launches later this year.

With the RTX 5070 potentially set to be the best graphics card in its price range, including the supposed ability of the RTX 5070 to offer RTX 4090 performance, it's going to be in high demand. What's more, it may only be available in very limited numbers when the RTX 5070 release date arrives in February 2025. As such, you'll have to be quick to grab one of these new Nvidia cards, especially if you don't want to pay inflated prices from scalpers buying the cards from trusted retailers, only to then resell them on the likes of Ebay.

The official RTX 5070 price is $549 / $549 CAD / £549 / AU$1,109 for the Founders Edition card, so that's the price you should be hoping to pay for Nvidia's own stylish card. Other cards from the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac might demand more, but that's the ballpark figure you should expect to pay. While RTX 5090 stock and RTX 5080 stock is now available, no RTX 5070 stock is available yet and won't be for several weeks. However, some sites have "notify me" services, so you can sign up to know when stock becomes available, and these may eventually switch to pre-order options too.

Where to buy 5070 Ti - retailers to check for stock first

Looking for where to buy the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU? You've come to the right place. This guide will be updated daily with links to etailers around the world so you can set up your notifications, submit your pre-order, and eventually find stock - at a regular retail price - when the RTX 5070 Ti launches.

The Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti is the mid-tier card in the company's new RTX 5000 series GPU lineup. While the RTX 5070 is your entry into the series, and the RTX 5090 is the range-topper, the RTX 5070 Ti could well be the best graphics card choice for those looking to maximize their bang for buck.

A notable aspect of the RTX 5070 Ti is that Nvidia won't be producing its own Founders Edition card. As such there isn't an MSRP for that exact card. However, the guide price for stock-speed cards is $749 / $749 CAD / £729 / AU$1,109. These cards will be manufactured by the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac. The RTX 5070 Ti release date window is set for February 2025, so no stock is available yet. Some stores are already listing cards with "notify me" services, and we could see pre-order options appear too, but none yet include these.

Hidden away on NASA's Golden Record, an interstellar archive of music, image and sound, there is a recording of a poem by Charles Baudelaire, Élévation, which describes the astral ascent of the soul. Well, part of a poem. Both to free up room on the disc and perhaps, to edit out "the vast sorrows and all the vexations" of the second half, only the first two stanzas appear. The recording in fact ends halfway through a line, which conjures up an intriguing problem for the listener, inasmuch as the thwarted rhyme scheme reveals that the piece is incomplete. A poetically-minded alien might be tempted to fill in the gap. A fancier alien who took a module in postmodernism might hail the poetics of the fragment. A resolutely practical alien who thinks poetry is for losers might read the whole thing, instead, as a set of incoherent navigational prompts, made up of loose prepositions - au-dessus, au-dessus, par delà, par delà.

Lu Xun in Dynasty Warriors 9 - Why omitting him in DW Origins is a mistake

Dynasty Warriors Origins has been largely regarded as having a generally positive reception, thanks to the properly rebooted action gameplay system. However, those who already have long-time attachments to the series, especially to the characters and historical events, would find a good number of gaping holes in the new game's storytelling due to the more-than-necessary cuts of recurring unique characters. One such character whose absence in Dynasty Warriors Origins is very noticeable is Lu Xun from the Sun Wu faction.

Lu Xun has been one of the popular mainstay characters of the Dynasty Warriors series ever since he appeared in the original PS1 fighting game. However, the historical figure was arguably best known for commanding the Wu army in launching a chain fire attack on the Shu camps at the Battle of Yiling in 222 AD.

Perhaps Omega Force referred to that feat as the primary reason for forgoing Lu Xun in Dynasty Warriors Origins, which only covered events up to the Battle of Chi Bi / Red Cliffs in 208 AD. Even though Lu Xun also had several campaigns against the unruly Shanyue tribe, which is also featured more prominently in the Sun clan's storyline in Origins, those skirmishes took place in the mid-210s. However, he historically started serving the Sun clan from around 203 AD, which is actually within the period covered in the new game.

In addition, as Omega Force claimed that Dynasty Warriors Origins has an extensive focus on the shorter period, it included several battles that were not covered in prior series entries. One of them just so happened to feature figures from the same clan as Lu Xun, which makes the latter's exclusion far more perplexing.

Lu Xun granduncle Lu Kang appears in Dynasty Warriors Origins dynasty warriors origins characters
Screenshot by Siliconera

The battle in question is the Siege of Lujiang, which ran for two years and concluded in 195 AD. Even though this battle was barely mentioned in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, Sun Ce historically appeared and commanded the attacking side of the battle when he was still serving as a vassal of Yuan Shu. The leader of the defending side was none other than Lu Xun's granduncle Lu Kang, whose name in kanji/hanzi (陸康) is different from Lu Xun's future son (陸抗).

The historical relationship between the two key figures was not good either. When Sun Ce paid a visit to Lu Kang far before the siege, the latter disrespected him by not meeting him in person and sending a subordinate instead.

Lu Kang historically died roughly one month after the siege concluded, though not before he appointed Lu Xun as the new head of the clan. When Lu Xun eventually decided to serve under Sun Quan, the liege had him later marry one of Sun Ce's daughters as a measure to mend the relationship between the Sun and Lu clans.

Lu Xun vs Bandits in Dynasty Warriors 9 dynasty warriors origins characters
Screenshot by Siliconera

When I previously published a list of period-relevant characters missing in Dynasty Warriors Origins' unique character roster, I initially assumed that Cao Ren would be the most jarring exclusion because he originally filled the enemy commander role in the Battle of Xinye. However, the game's producer Tomohiko Sho has since tweeted his defense of the decision, noting that he wants to depict Cao Ren closer to his deeds from historical sources rather than the fodder general persona as shown during the aforementioned battle in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel.

But I digress slightly. As the Dynasty Warriors series generally features a loose retelling of the Chinese Three Kingdoms-era history and folklore, Origins did also have some changes to the detailed relationships, especially since Omega Force portrayed Sun Ce in a better light as one of the game story's main characters.

With the Dynasty Warriors Origins rendition of Lu Kang noticing Sun Ce's difference from Yuan Shu when the former spared him, he may have conveyed the observation to Lu Xun when he was about to have the latter succeed him. However, Lu Xun ended up never appearing in the game when he should have as Sun Quan's reign starts in a later chapter.

I would consider this a missed opportunity even worse than Cao Ren's absence from the Battle of Xinye. It would have shown how Sun Ce's compassion earned him respect from a clan he had defeated previously, especially amid the regional animosity that led to the battle that featured his historical death scene.

The latest mainline Dynasty Warriors entry that featured Lu Xun is Dynasty Warriors 9, which Koei Tecmo released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018. The newer entry Dynasty Warriors Origins has been available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC since January 2025, but its unique character roster does not include Lu Xun.

Trigun Stampede Nicholas D Wolfwood Figure Update Shared

A number of figure updates appeared at Kotobukiya Collection 2025, and that meant we got a chance to see how the Trigun Stampede Nicholas D Wolfwood figure is looking. As it's still early in development, the scale figure only appeared in an unpainted prototype form. As is obvious from the design, it's based on the newest anime series.

In this figure, the character is designed to look like he's about to enter a fight. The priest's eyes are covered by his sunglasses. his left hand holds a cigarette with smoke coming off of it. His Punisher gun, which is shaped like a cross, is on his right shoulder.

Here are the two Trigun Stampede Nicholas D Wolfwood prototype figure photos Kotobukiya shared. In one of them, he appears alongside the finished Vash the Stampede figure. This is designed to give us a sense of scale, as well as show how the two would look if displayed together.

That Vash figure first came up at Kotobukiya Collection 2023. It showed up as an unpainted prototype at that event. It later launched in 2024.

There's no release date yet for the Trigun Stampede Nicholas D Wolfwood  figure. Both Trigun and Trigun Stampede are streaming on Crunchyroll. Dark Horse handled the manga localizations.

Bloodborne 60fps Patch Pulled Over Sony DMCA Takedown

Lance McDonald, creator of the Bloodborne 60fps patch, announced it is no longer available due to a DMCA takedown notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment. The fan-made patch affected the PS4 game and also offered support for the PS4 Pro. The game released 10 years ago in March 2015.

Here is McDonald's statement. In it, the creator noted links to the Bloodborne 60fps patch were removed immediately after Sony sent out the DMCA.

https://twitter.com/manfightdragon/status/1885347693125566806

As a follow-up to that, McDonald also shared a photo taken with  Shuhei Yoshida. Yoshida used to be the Sony Interactive Entertainment president, as well as Head of Independent Developer Initiative, before departing the company on January 15, 2025. He was made aware of McDonald's patch at that time.

https://twitter.com/manfightdragon/status/1844556708192153714

In case you didn't get a chance to see how the Bloodborne 60fps patch worked in-action, McDonald shared an over 15 minute showcase on YouTube that highlighted how the update worked.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0tqppZDYxw&ab_channel=LanceMcDonald

Since its March 2015 launch, we haven't seen Bloodborne again. FromSoftware and Sony haven't announced any remaster project, sequel, or revival. Fans have stepped up to keep it alive in ways, such as the Bloodborne 60fps patch and fan game Bloodborne Kart. The latter ended up being renamed and released as Nightmare Kart.

Bloodborne is available on the PS4.

Multiversus Shut Down

Multiversus will be shutting down on May 30, 2025, Player First Games confirmed. Season 5 will be the game's final season, after which all online features will end and the game will be delisted. Those who own it will still be able to play, however.

The final Multiversus season will begin on February 4, 2025, and then conclude on May 30, 2025. After this, all support for the game will be shut down. In addition to online player servers, all microtransactions will become unavailable as of January 31, 2025. This means that both of Season 5's new characters, Aquaman and Lola Bunny, will be available exclusively through gameplay. Aquaman will be available as the first tier reward of the Battle Pass, while Lola will be a daily calendar login reward. If players have already purchased Gleamium, they will still be able to use their remaining balance for purchases during the season.

While Multiversus will be delisted at the end of Season 5, players who log in during this final season will be able to play the game offline after the shutdown. This means players will still be able to play against solo against bots or via local multiplayer. This includes all previously purchased content. It is unknown if locked characters will be easier to obtain as a result of these changes.

Multiversus is a Smash Bros style fighter that has faced significant criticism since its launch. Despite a successful beta launch in 2022, the game's huge player numbers quickly dropped off. This is often attributed to the game's aggressive monetization systems that restricted the game's roster, which is likely why the game is now being shut down.

Multiversus is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X until May 30, 2025.

Persona 5 Makoto Queen Niijima Pop Up Parade

Good Smile Company confirmed that it will restock the Pop Up Parade figure of the Persona 5 character Makoto "Queen" Niijima that features her in her Phantom Thief attire. The company has opened pre-orders for a new batch of the figure on both its Japanese international and North American exclusive web stores.

The company originally released Queen's figure in 2022, so the restock will happen three years after that. However, the figure will be available with a different price tag than before. While the original 2022 release cost ¥3,900, the new stock in 2025 will cost more at ¥4,800 / $31.99.

As a reminder of how the static figure looks like, here are some of the sample images taken from multiple sides:

Good Smile Company has been more frequently releasing Pop Up Parade figures modeled after Persona series characters in recent months. It has previously announced that it will release a new figure of Haru "Noir" Okumura from Persona 5—the same game as Makoto—in 2025. The company also revealed another figure featuring the Persona 3 protagonist in the same lineup.

The new batch of the Persona 5 Phantom Thief Makoto "Queen" Niijima Pop Up Parade figures will start appearing in Japan in July 2025 and in North America in Q4 2025. Good Smile Company will close the pre-order window on February 26, 2025.

PlayStation 30th Anniversary themes on PS5

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that it will remove the legacy PlayStation console themes on the PS5, which made for the platform's 30th anniversary, on February 1, 2025. However, the company also teased that it may bring back the themes in a few more months after receiving a lot of positive feedback from users.

For the record, SIE originally added the temporary themes for the PS5 in late 2024 to mark the 30th anniversary of the first PlayStation console, which first launched in Japan on December 3, 1994. The four themes are respectively themed after the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. The PS1 theme, for example, shows a boot scene reminiscent of the original console with the old Sony Computer Entertainment logo shown at the beginning.

Here is the official tweet posted on the Japanese PlayStation account on X:

https://twitter.com/PlayStation_jp/status/1885120895137833384

And here is our translation of the tweet:

We have received a lot of responses to the time-limited themes modeled after the first PlayStation, the PS2, the PS3, and the PS4. Thank you!

We will cease providing these 4 themes tomorrow on Saturday, February 1. But after receiving positive receptions from everyone, we will work on the development to make it possible to once again provide these specially-designed themes within a few more months.

SIE also released a limited number of PS5 consoles, DualSense controllers, and PS Portals themed after the PS1 to celebrate its 30th anniversary. In addition, the same company worked with Grapht to produce and release PS1-themed merchandise for its major anniversary milestone, which ranged from a tote bag to keychains.

The legacy PlayStation console themes on the PlayStation 5 will disappear on February 1, 2025, but Sony Interactive Entertainment has promised to bring the themes back in the near future.

pokemon center life-sized gardevoir doll

Some corners of the Internet are about to become very happy, as the Pokemon Center announced a life-sized Gardevoir doll. It'll come out on February 6, 2025 and it'll cost 49,500 JPY ($319.20). [Thanks, Poke_Times!]

The life-sized Gardevoir doll stands at 160 centimeters tall, and weighs 5000 grams. According to the site, it can't actually stand on its own, as Gardevoir has tiny little stick legs. You'll need to prop it against a wall or seat it on something. The Pokemon Center also does not allow you to buy the Gardevoir plush with anything else. You'll need to make other purchases in another transaction.

A user in the reply pointed out that the Gardevoir plush on the Pokemon Center has a different return policy and toy age recommendation compared to other life-sized toys on the site. The Gardevoir is the only one for people fifteen years and older. As well, while you can return other products within two weeks, the Gardevoir's return policy states you can only exchange or return it if there's a problem with the product itself. This could have to do with the size of the doll, though, rather than any nefarious reasons.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the latest mainline entries of the franchise, are available on the Nintendo Switch. The life-sized Gardevoir doll will come out on February 6, 2025 in Japan.

arknights endfield preview

In true pioneer fashion, Arknights: Endfield is a game that wears many hats. It's a story-rich action RPG with exploration and combat elements, but it also has a robust base-building mechanic. With enough time and plenty of hard work, you can turn the moon of Talos-II into a thriving interstellar colony. Provided, of course, that raiders, native wildlife, and the environment don't do you in first.

While Arknights: Endfield takes place in the same world and timeline as the base Arknights game, you don't need to know anything about Arknights to jump in. New characters make up most of the playable roster, and it focuses on a whole other world and industry. In Endfield, you play as the Endministrator, the Endmin of Endfield Industries. Wow, that's a lot of "end"s.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Though you've lost your memories, you, as the Endministator, still help Endfield Industries and others to set up a thriving frontier colony on Talos-II, which is the second moon of gas giant Talos. Despite Endfield Industries' amazing team of engineers and Talos-II's abundance of resources, things aren't going too well thanks to unexpected hostilities. Not only do you need to do the usual RPG stuff of fighting enemies and saving people, but you also need to fix damaged logistics or set up new outposts.

Admittedly, the who's and why's of Endfield eluded me on occasion. While I appreciate good in media res storytelling, it employed a lot of terminology and proper nouns that flew over my head during the cutscenes. The intel archive proved useful when sorting out questions I had throughout the story. Focusing on and engaging with Endfield's story was challenging, as, despite its strong premise, the actual narrative didn't hook me. Everything from the story to the characters to the missions felt bland, like I was going through the motions.

The Endministrator is yet another silent protagonist, which is a trope I've griped about in the past. They're a blank slate of a character due to their amnesia, and act accordingly, with Perlica taking the wheel. Characters often talk about how amazing the Endministrator is, or how legendary they were in the past. But time and time again, the Endministrator proves themself...kind of lame.

The Traveler and the Rover, regardless of if you like the glazing they receive, accomplish many heroic tasks in the narrative. It's understandable why in Liyue, for example, people welcome the Traveler, considering they helped save the city. The Endministrator, meanwhile, never really does or says anything that special or awesome. It can feel undeserved to watch them receive praise or admiration based on a forgotten past we know little about. I understand that Hypergryph might've wanted to hail back to the original Arknights—Perlica seems like an expy of Amiya—but Endfield was a chance to do something different. It's especially egregious since the premise of creating a functioning and livable base on Talos-II is interesting enough on its own. With the precedent of the Doctor, though, I'm inclined to give Hypergryph the benefit of the doubt and let them cook a little with the Endministrator.

arknights endfield da pan
He is, no joke, the coolest dude in the game. Screenshot by Siliconera

Really, though, instead of focusing on glazing the Endministrator, the other characters should focus on themselves. Currently, there are only about thirteen Operators to pull from in Headhunting. That's not a lot, per se, but it's still just a beta build. I'm honestly a little surprised at how few Operators are actually interesting as characters, especially since they display so much personality in their menu animations. As a general rule, the characters are agreeable or affable, with minor differences like Chen Qianyu's genki girl tendencies compared to Perlica's more subdued temperament. It feels like I'm looking at people who already went through growth or a character arc, leaving no room for further development or intrigue. Like how story and character changes occurred between the beta and completed builds of Star Rail and Wuthering Waves, I'm hoping that when Endfield officially comes out, its cast will grow more character.

Despite the weak story and character writing, Endfield remains a delight to play thanks to the strong aesthetic choices. For one thing, the menus and UI feel very next-gen, with the parallax effect present when speaking with people via comms. Characters change how they pose whenever you tab through their menus, like Zenless Zone Zero does. The character models and overall color palette of the game feel unique for a gacha game, as the anime-like cel-shaded style popularized by games like Genshin has dominated the market. It reminds me of a mix between watercolor, as well as the art style of the illustrator who designed Amiya. Not that surprising, though, considering Wei@W (the illustrator in question) is one of the founding members of Hypergryph and serves as the current creative director for Arknights.

A minor detail in the character models that really stood out to me was how the character's eyes would make these minute movements when looking at something or someone. It reminds me of how someone in real life might make similar eye movements when gazing upon, say, a large piece of art and they're trying to focus on various parts of the painting. I'm not sure if the developers had to individually animate each motion or what, but it still amazed me that they chose to put it in the game when no one would've said anything if they didn't.

endfield combat
Screenshot by Siliconera.

Now, let's talk about how it's like to play the game. Arknights; Endfield has three main aspects to the gameplay loop: combat, exploration, and base-building. The base-building is actually the most important part of it all, since it ties in to the exploration and combat at an intrinsic level. I don't recommend this game at all to people who don't like base-building, or aren't willing to put in the time. You can't avoid it if you want to get anywhere, both figuratively and literally. But before we get to that, let's talk about the other components of the game.

While the combat system itself is fairly standard for an action RPG (basic attack, skill, ultimate, dodge), the possibilities when it comes to team composition do remind me of the original Arknights game. The rarity level of a character doesn't matter as much as their role or skill. Gilberta, for example, is a 6-star Operator, which is the highest rarity in the game. That doesn't automatically mean she'll dominate the battlefield, though. Using her with the 5-star Da Pan didn't feel nearly as good as pairing Da Pan with the 4-star Chen Qianyu because of their complementary play styles. Despite initially writing off Snowshine for her low rarity (and her refusal to leave me in peace when I'm headhunting only added to my dislike), she became a mainstay on all my teams until I built up Xaihi enough to bring her out.

Each character has a combo skill, which triggers under specific circumstances. Using them does not eat up a skill bar, so that leaves you free to use another Battle Skill or save it for when you want to interrupt an enemy. Forming teams that can reliably facilitate each character's combo skill is far more valuable than simply aiming for the rarest Operator.

My main party is Laevatain, Wulfgard, Perlica, and Snowshine, as I find all three of my attackers synergize so well with each other. Perlica's Skill imparts an Electric Infliction onto an enemy. As this is an Arts Infliction, this triggers Wulfgard's combo skill. Combining Electric with Heat creates Combustion, which then triggers Laevatain's combo skill. All that for the cost of one skill bar is pretty great. A simpler combination only requires Laevatain and Wulfgard, as Laevatain's Battle Skill can also trigger Wulfgard's combo skill, which means I can save Perlica's for later. Like Arknights, it feels less pay-to-win when the format of the combat system encourages this sort of creativity. Even low-rarity Operators have the chance to shine depending on who you pair them with.

arknights endfield automaton
My ugly AIC which has every disease. Screenshot by Siliconera.

Now, as mentioned in the beginning, Arknights: Endfield boasts a really in-depth and robust base-building system. It starts simple, having you rig up power lines and grids so that you can send electricity to different facilities around the base. In the beginning, I had to keep going back to my various refineries and processing units to take materials out. But the game later lets you automate this entire process, complete with conveyor belts like a full-fledged factory. Base-building isn't exactly where my interest lies, and my eyes skimmed over the explanations when playing it late at night. However, the VR simulation tutorials, as well as the intuitive menus, made everything easy to navigate. They put a lot of work and thought into this part of the game.

And for good reason, too. As mentioned earlier, you can't get away from base-building. You have to do it, as this is how you get the materials to assemble gear for your characters. Exploration also requires you to put your base-building skills to work, even if it's as simple as setting down some pylons and relay towers so that you can power up mechanisms to gain access to different areas or rewards. There's even a way to sort of recreate the tower defense of the mainline Arknights game, as you can set up weapons like Gatling guns provided that, again, you can transmit electricity to them.

Arknights: Endfield plays like a well-oiled machine, with each individual aspect acting as the cog to keep it chugging. Hypergryph did an amazing job fusing the different elements together without letting one shine too much over the other. There's still a lot to do on Hypergryph's end—mostly to do with the story—before it's ready for public release, but, pun unintended, it's already got a strong base to build on.

Arknights: Endfield is in development for the PS5, Windows PCs, and mobile devices.
