Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, February 28, 2025 2:45 AM ![]() Nic: Life, the absolute bastard, has kept me away from the Monst. Let me experience it through you. What's the best Monst so far? Brendan: I am fond of the squiddy critters that slop about. The Nu Udra is a giant gloopy octopus that feels like a stand-out fight partly because of its many, many arms, but also because of the environment you fight it in. It's horrible (in a fun way) to wade about in the oil of this region, and try to avoid the flames that inevitably start to spread. Another later squid-like beast has some horrible knifey hands at the end of its tentacles, but I'll let the readers discover the rest of that creep's tactics by themselves. Ollie: I'm partial to the Yian Kut-Ku myself. It was the very first monster I ever fought in any Monster Hunter, back in the days of Monster Hunter Freedom on my PSP. The fun thing about the Palico in the Monster Hunter series is that Capcom often plays around and lets us dress them in cute, funny, and weird outfits when you use full equipment sets, and Monster Hunter Wilds might just offer the best one yet. The new Nu Udra cephalopod monster debuts as an Apex Predator in the Basin region. It also lets us bring Octo-Cat to life. Which means, in some ways, that a Nu Udra Palico is just too cool.
A number of the Palico Equipment sets in Monster Hunter Wilds let our Felyne companion cosplay as other characters. The Felyne Conga set makes it look like one of those wind-up monkeys that bangs cymbals together. The Felyne Doshaguma and Ajarakan sets feature flowing manes and resemble the monsters. But the Felyne Nu Udra turns it into an octopus with cat ears.
Now, part of what makes the Felyne Nu Udra the best Monster Hunter Wilds Palico equipment is the visual effect. It ends up looking exactly like the marine creature. There are six tentacles if you forge the lower-half Felyne Udra Tentacles. These flail about as your Felyne moves, making it look like each one is propelling the critter across surfaces. The Felyne Udra Head has the same slitted eyes as an octopus and the bulbous back of the head, which has physics applied to it that bob and sway as the cat moves. The only feline features are two pointed ears, which fit in seamlessly.
![]()
![]()
The lower half only requires Nu Udra Hide and can be forged immediately after facing the Basin Apex predator in Chapter 2. Which is pretty great, seeing as how it adds 18 defense and offers some fire resistance. The Felyne Nu Udra Head requires you to push a bit further into the game. While you'll likely have the Nu Udra Horn from The Black Flame fight in Chapter 2, you also need a Guardian Pelt often dropped by Wyveria Guardian monsters to make it. That has 17 defense and also offers fire resistance. So even at Low Rank, it's a pretty viable suit for your buddy.
The visual that stems from using both at once is just so good.
The only thing that's almost as satisfying is to mix it up with another Basin-region piece of Palico Equipment. If you defeat the Rompopolo and get its beak as a drop, you can make the F Rompopolo Brain helmet for your furry friend. This turns your Palico's head into a pink, cat head-shaped brain in a green, glowing jar. Given how the base of it looks, it ends up looking like it is grafted onto the tentacles when paired with the Felyne Udra Tentacles. You can forge it right away, since it doesn't require any additional equipment, and it nets your Palico 14 points of defense and 1 point of Dragon resistance.
![]()
If you're into Monster Hunter as a series for its occasional goofiness and dress-up capabilities, then I definitely recommend the Felyne Nu Udra set as one of the best Monster Hunter Wilds Palico Equipment options. It's just so much fun. Even if you only opt to use part of it, it can make your runs much sillier.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Konami announced a new line of Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster acrylic stands featuring various characters in memorable "scenes" from the games. The first volume will include characters that are prominently featured on the first game, and they will appear as prizes in Japan from March 6, 2025.
The characters included in Volume 1 of the Suikoden acrylic stand collection are protagonist Tir McDohl, Gremio, Odessa, and Ted. The acrylic stands themselves feature the classic 1995 art by Junko Kawano, accompanied by a text box with iconic lines (the aforementioned scenes) from the characters. Meanwhile, the portraits appearing in the text boxes display the new updated art, also made by Kawano for the remaster.

Bleeding, by far, is one of the worst debuffs you can come across in Monster Hunter Wilds, and managing it can become a nightmare.
This particular debuff can be triggered quite easily by some monsters and from the environment. Thankfully, there are different ways to counter this debuff, and this guide will help you to counter bleeding and save yourself in Monster Hunter Wilds.
How to cure bleeding in Monster Hunter Wilds
There are some really useful items to pick from the Provisions Vendor located in any camp. One of those items called Wild Jerky will help you instantly cure bleeding if it's triggered. You can purchase Wild Jerky for 98z, so make sure to keep some of them in your inventory at all times. You can bleed from environmental causes as well, and it's certainly not a fun way to die.
Do note that you will lower your movement speed when you're consuming a consumable like Wild Jerky. Just keep this in mind in case you're in the middle of a battle. You can also call your Seikret before consuming Wild Jerky if you don't want to be slowed and become an easy target.
Another way to cure bleeding is to consume Rations. This item can be found in the Ingredient Center on the Support Desk NPC. It also restores a bit of Stamina along with curing the debuff and serves two purposes.
![]()
Thirdly, you can just crouch for a few seconds to stop bleeding. While this method is useful if you have taken damage from environmental sources, it's not a smart thing to do if you're in a battle. Chances are that the monster might end up killing you anyway by the time you can remove the bleeding debuff.
How to prevent bleeding in Monster Hunter Wilds
You don't have to cure bleeding if you can prevent it from happening in the first place. To do so, you'll have to use the Bleed Charm Talisman from Smithy or Gemma. You can upgrade the talisman, which will improve its Bleeding Resistance stat.
While a high level of Bleeding Resistance stat is always helpful, it's best to always keep a few Wild Jerkies and Rations with you. Additionally, make sure to check out our weapons tier list to deal with the different monsters effectively. You can also set different traps to deal more damage or mount them to attack from the top.

Mounting monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds has several benefits, and it should be one of the first attacking techniques you should get accustomed to.
When you come across a monster in the game, mounting it isn't the easiest activity out of all. However, putting in the extra effort will be beneficial in many ways.
Let's take a look at how to mount a monster inside the game effectively.
Monster Hunter Wilds mounting system explained
When you come across a monster, you can't just mount it immediately. You'll have to fill out a hidden mount meter before you can perform the mounted attacks. To do so, you'll have to land a Jump Attack. First, get on a surface with a height like a ledge.
From the high surface, perform the Jump Attack by pressing the M1 Mouse Button/Triangle/Y to hit the monster. If you manage to hit the monster successfully, it will fill up a part of the meter. Continue to repeat the process to fill the meter fully, and you'll be able to use the monster as you next mount.
![]()
All mount-based attacks in Monster Hunter Wilds
Once you have successfully mounted a monster, it will be open to different types of attacks.
As of writing, you can only mount large monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds. Also, you can't perform a Finisher right after mounting a monster. You'll need to deal damage consistently to convert your attack into a Finisher. You can also create wounds using Strong Knife attacks that will create wounds on the body of a monster.
Wounds are more susceptible to damage, and you can also perform a Focus Strike to deal more hits to the monster's health. Once again, mounting monsters isn't the easiest task to perform in Monster Hunter Wilds, but mastering it can be extremely rewarding in the long run.

There's more than one way to capture monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, and setting a perfect trap is certainly one of the most effective ways available inside the game.
There are two types of traps you can utilize: Consumable and Environmental. The process of activating them is different, and they're not equally effective for every kind of monster. This guide will help you master the concepts of setting and activating traps to make the most out of them while grabbing any monster.
How to use Consumable traps in Monster Hunter Wilds
Consumable traps work just like a piece of consumable, and you can equip them from your inventory. Once you have selected the trap, press the Square button, and there will be a brief animation when it's being set. Once set, your trap is automatically active.
Whether you're using a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap, activation will happen when a monster enters its working radius. The trigger happens automatically, making it perfect for you to stay away and watch the fun from a distance. If you're unsure about the placement of a Consumable trap, you can pick it up and add it to your inventory.
![]()
How to use Environmental traps in Monster Hunter Wilds
The name "Environmental" makes it pretty clear as to how these traps work. They don't have to be set, and all you have to do is approach them and interact with the button to activate them. You can do the same task from a distance by using your Slinger Hook.
Just like Consumable traps, Environmental traps are activated when a monster is in its radius. However, these traps are harder to activate as you can't set them beforehand.
All traps in Monster Hunter Wilds
Here's a breakdown of every trap that is available in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Disclaimer: List to be updated as we find more traps.
Using traps in Monster Hunter Wilds is not necessary, but they can be extremely useful in certain situations. For example, some traps can expose bigger monsters, allowing you to land combos and deal a lot of damage in a short time.

Monster Hunter Wilds has a pretty sweet way of player customization available at the start of a game, but you'll need something called Character Vouchers to perform the same task later on.
While cosmetic changes don't directly help you much with your monster-catching functions, they help your character look apart. The vouchers will allow you to make changes as much as you want and when you want.
Let's take a look at how you can obtain these items inside the game and what the best ways to spend them are in the first place.
How to get Character Vouchers in Monster Hunter Wilds
There's no way to get Character Vouchers by just playing the game. They can obtained as paid DLCs, which is similar to systems implemented in previous Monster Hunter releases. This system is a major change from what was available during the open Betas, as you could edit as much as you wanted.
It remains to be seen if we get any events in the future that will allow us to get these vouchers by simply playing the game.

How to use Character Vouchers in Monster Hunter Wilds
The role of Character Vouchers is to allow you to perform Character Edits. Similar to the Change Appearance function, Character Edits will enable you to make bigger changes to how your character looks inside the game. Unlike Change Appearance, Character Edits aren't free as of writing.
Here's a complete list of everything you can change from Character Edits.
If you don't plan to spend any money on Character Vouchers, make sure to pay proper attention during character creation. You can make changes to how it appears later, but the tweaks will have limited scope.

With the release of Monster Hunter Wilds, I've had a few weeks to try out all the weapons available this time around as well as try out the Day 1 patch that is launching alongside the game. As such, I put together this ultimate Monster Hunter Wilds Weapon Tier List to help both beginner and veteran players decide which weapon to use.
![]()
Monster Hunter Wilds Weapon Tier List
For this Monster Hunter Wild Weapon Tier List, I have ranked each weapon twice, once for beginners, and once for veterans. Some weapons like the Insect Glaive, can be difficult for new players to get a hang of, but absolute monsters in the hands of a veteran. On the other side, some weapons like the Sword and Shield can prove invaluable for beginners but lack the high ceiling cap a more experienced player might be looking for. Here is my ultimate Monster Hunter Wilds weapon tier list for the Day 1 Patch:
S Tier
A Tier
B Tier
C Tier
As you can see, most weapons are simply better when in the hands of a more skilled player. This means that you should try all the weapons and see which one you like the most; after all, they all have vastly different playstyles. Once you find one you like, keep playing it until you master it and it will be able to hold its own against any other weapon regardless of its placement on this tier list!

In addition to the pre-order gifts, Monster Hunter Wilds players can claim goodies from the beta and past saves. It'll help you out at the start of your journey, offering valuables for you and your Palico. Here's how to get beta and Monster Hunter World rewards.

If you played Monster Hunter World or the Iceborne expansion, you can transfer your save data to Monster Hunter Wilds. To unlock bonuses from World, you must complete character creation for you and your Palico.
For Iceborne, you'll need to complete World's ending and talk to the character Feisty Fiver. You'll find this NPC near the entrance of Astera near Ancient Forest.
![]()
You must ensure the past save data is on the platform you're using to play Monster Hunter Wilds. If you played it on an older-generation console, you can transfer your data to the newer gen. For example, you'll need to transfer your PlayStation 4 data to PlayStation 5 or use a save file on a cloud for PC. Once you've completed this step, you can expect these rewards:
Remember, the Palico/Felyne rewards will only be available until you arrive at the Base Camp, so you won't initially see these cosmetics in character creation.

Poogie has blessed us with its adorable presence in many Monster Hunters, from Freedom to MH3. It has once again made its mark in Monster Hunter Wilds, oink-ing its way to the top. Find out where to find this creature and how to pet it.
Where to find and unlock Poogie in Monster Hunter Wilds
Before we get into how to pet Poogie, you'll need to know where to find it first. Poogie can be found in the Suja region, which unlocks during Nothing Frozen, Nothing Gained Chapter 3-2. The pig will roam around this area, marked with its distinct Pet icon.
![]()
If it's nighttime, Poogie will likely be sleeping, but you can wake it up to start giving it pets.
How to pet Poogie in Monster Hunter Wilds
Petting Poogie will be easy enough to initiate, but the only problem is that it will get mad if you don't do it correctly. To avoid this, press the 'Pet' button when the exclamation point appears. A successful attempt displays hearts around the pig as they jump for joy. If this doesn't happen, it will end up knocking you down. Luckily, you can simply try again afterward.
![]()
Poogie will give you a random item in return to show their gratitude. I got an Exciteshroom out of it, but you can earn plenty more rewards. If you're lucky, you may even get some of the game's rarest items. Although you can pet Poogie as often as you like in Monster Hunter Wilds, it seems to only provide you with one daily gift. Check back on the pig anytime you're in Suja for more rewards.
One of the unique features of Poogie is the ability to rename it, similar to the titles of the Palico and Seikret. There's a 15-character limit, so you can't go overboard with the length. But you can get creative and give Poogie a name that resonates with you. Of course, you can always stick with the classic 'Poogie'; it's a pretty cute name as is.

The Bone Armor set is one of the first upgrades you can unlock, slightly boosting your defense and elemental resistance. To craft it, you must gather Mystery Bones throughout the regions. Here's how to get Mystery Bones in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Table of contents
How to farm Mystery Bones in Monster Hunter Wilds
You can utilize several methods to acquire Mystery Bones, whether from standard looting or monster fights. Take advantage of the following methods to farm them in Monster Hunter Wilds:
Completing quests is a surefire way to get Mystery Bones, making it one of the best techniques for farming. Some Small Monsters are known to drop it, too, once you take them down. If you want to test your luck, you can scavenge Bonepiles, but it's not always guaranteed. Since each method requires specific maneuvers, let's break down each one.
All Monster Hunter Wilds quests with Mystery Bone rewards
Monster Hunter Wilds' early missions tend to drop more Mystery Bones, such as the main campaign and the Optional Quests. Here's a list of all quests that drop Mystery Bones:
All missions above require you to eliminate a fearsome beast, including starter monsters like Chatacabra, Lala Barina, and Congalala. While you can't replay Assignments (they're a part of the main storyline), you can participate in the Optional Quests as often as you want.
![]()
All Monsters with Mystery Bones
The Small Monster species provide more chances to collect Mystery Bones. These creatures usually don't have missions tied to them, but you can spot them while out in the wild. The monsters below are one of the few that drop these valuable bones:
You can look for Small Monsters through their pink diamond icons on the map.
![]()
They won't put up as much of a fight compared to bigger creatures; however, they may still retaliate against you.
Monster Hunter Wilds Mystery Bone locations
When looting Bonepiles during the early stages of Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll likely farm a ton of Mystery Bones. On the other hand, I've noticed that the chances get lower during the endgame as you will uncover higher-tier bones. So, if you're just starting out in the game, you can look for Bonepiles in these regions:
Use the Filter Icons to place waypoints on any Bonepiles. Then, you can simply loot it to hopefully get some Mystery Bones.
![]()
How to use Mystery Bones in Monster Hunter Wilds
You can use Mystery Bones in your Weapon Bone Tree or to craft the Bone Armor set. You'll need the bones to unlock the first tier in the Bone Tree, paving the way to high-damaging upgrades.
![]()
The Bone Armor mandates five Mystery Bones to craft the whole set, including its Greaves, Coil, Vambraces, Mail, and Helm. It'll have a bit more defense than Hope, Leather, and Chainmail. However, I suggest aiming for the other starter sets from the monsters, given that they have much more protection.

Trophy hunters will have a field day with Monster Hunter Wilds' extensive achievement collection. Most will have you knocking heads with many beasts, but a few focus on capturing critters. Here's how to capture a creature that bears an Ancient Wyvern Coin in Monster Hunter Wilds.
All Ancient Wyvern Coin creature locations in Monster Hunter Wilds
To earn the A Prize Held High trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds, you must look for Curioshell Crabs in Windward Plains' Zones 13 and 6. While you're traveling around these areas, Alma might ask, "Is that a creature holding something?" This is a clear indicator that a creature with an Ancient Wyvern Coin is close to you. It may not always happen, but try to look around these zones to see if this notification pops up.
![]()
If Alma notifies you, you should see a crab with a coin. Use your Capture Net to get it, which you may have already utilized during Dareel's Research Report quest. Wait until the target illuminates a yellow color, and you should be all set to get the trophy.
![]()
Those using Zone 13 must venture into the cave entrance, which was shown during Monster Hunter Wilds' weapon tutorial phase. This creature may have other locations, as it has known habitats in the Plains, Forest, Basin, Cliffs, and Wyveria. However, the one for the trophy seems to spawn more in the Windward Plains.
![]()
You can exchange rare items with the Ancient Wyvern Coin from the crab. Scarlet Forest's Wudwud Hideout utilizes this currency, which you can use when speaking to Gawdygog. Provide this Wudwud with 10 Ancient Wyvern Coins for materials like the Dalthydon Wool, Great Hornfly, and Monster Chili. Although you'll only earn one coin for Monster Hunter Wilds' A Prize Held High trophy, you can continue to collect more of them through missions or random drops from monsters.

Although you'll spend quite a lot of time taking down monsters, you'll sometimes have to take the non-violent route by capturing them. One task, in particular, requires you to get the Yian Kut-Ku during the New Ecosystems quest. Here's how to complete this Monster Hunter Wilds quest.
How to get Yian Kut-Ku in MHW New Ecosystems quest
The Shock Trap and Tranq Bomb are the key items you need to capture the Yian Kut-Ku. You can prepare yourself beforehand by making the Shock Trap with a Trap Tool and Thunderbug Capacitor, as well as a Sleep Herb and Parashroom for the Tranq Bomb. If you've already set off on this quest or don't have the ingredients, don't worry. The items are sent to you via the Supply Items inventory, including some First Aid Meds and a Large Dung Pod.
When you initially encounter the Yian Kut-Ku, other creatures will be nearby to stir up some trouble. Use a Large Dung Pod to scare them away, allowing you to keep your focus on the primary target. The goal is to inflict enough damage until the Yian Kut-Ku starts limping (you might need to hit it a few times more afterward). Veteran Monster Hunter players will likely know all about this strategy, mainly since a similar method is used in World.
![]()
Once the Yian Kut-Ku starts limping, it's crucial to stop attacking to avoid killing it. Alma will warn you to prevent this from happening. Now, set up the Shock Trap and wait for the Yian Kut-Ku to get caught. Unleash two Tranq Bombs to make it fall asleep. If it doesn't work, you must inflict more damage on the monster to weaken it and repeat the process.
![]()
You may have some trouble knocking out the monster with the tranquilizer, as I did, which will cause them to run away. I found it best to attack the creature until Alma orders you to set up the trap. If you run out of materials, you can look around the Scarlet Forest or return to Base Camp to make more Shock Traps and Tranq Bombs. Once the Yian Kut-Ku falls asleep, the New Ecosystem quest will conclude, rewarding you with some new handy items.
All Yian Kut-Ku Quest Rewards
If you want to see what rewards the Yian Kut-Ku offers, here's what you can expect:
Similar to other monsters, you can use these materials to craft a weapon upgrade. Catch up with Gemma to unlock the new enhancement in the Yian Kut-Ku Tree.

If you look at your Crafting collection, you'll notice three healing items: Potion, Mega Potion, and First-aid Med+. The first two will be easy to acquire, but the last can be tricky to produce. Find out how to get a First Aid Med in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where to find First Aid Meds in Monster Hunter Wilds
The required materials for the First Aid Med include Honey and an already-made vial of First-aid Med+. Initially, I was pretty confused about it since there seemed to be no way of acquiring the potion while in free roam. You can only get a First Aid Med during a quest, where you'll receive a Supply Item at the beginning. Like past Monster Hunter iterations, it's limited to being a quest-related item, meaning it will disappear once you've completed the mission.
![]()
The game will typically notify you at the quest's beginning, allowing you to open your Supply Items via the Seikret Pouch. You can then transfer the First Aid Med to your pouch to unlock an additional way of healing yourself. It'll restore a small amount of your health, similar to the Potion recipe. While on a mission, you can finally craft more First Aid Meds using Honey. Honey can be found everywhere on the map, so you should have no problem making it.
![]()
Although the inventory is relatively restricted, the game will likely restock you with First Aid Meds when starting on another task. However, it should be noted that not every quest will provide you with this particular material. Therefore, I suggest always having Potions or Mega Potions with you. These healing items mandate Herbs, another resource that's in every region.
The Mega Potion should be your primary focus, as it heals more than First Aid Meds and regular Potions. It's best to use the First Aid Meds when you only need a slight health boost or run out of other restorative items.

When you take down your first beast in Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll gain access to the Chatacabra Armor set. The Coil requires a mysterious piece known as the "Sharp Fang," which doesn't seem to drop from this reptilian beast. Find out how to get Sharp Fangs in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where to find Sharp Fangs in Monster Hunter Wilds
You can eliminate the following creatures to gather Sharp Fangs in Monster Hunter Wilds:
If you're just starting out in Monster Hunter Wilds, you can get Sharp Fangs early on in Windward Plains. You can find these creatures around Zones 8 and 11, where they often travel in groups. You can use the Filter Icons on the map to narrow down their locations with pink-colored diamond icons.
![]()
Talioths almost look like dinosaurs, with similar features to velociraptors. Be warned; they will retaliate against you if they are provoked enough. The entire group may try to attack you, but it shouldn't be as challenging as the large monster types. Just deal a few hits to it, and the Talioth should go down in no time.
![]()
Once you've progressed further in the story, you'll start finding the other creatures with Sharp Fangs, from the Kranodath to the Piragill. Although Gaijos spawn in Windward Plains, I've noticed they appear a lot more in the Scarlet Forest. Therefore, it's best to shoot for the Talioth if you're still in the starter region.
Start carving any compatible creatures to gather Sharp Fangs for Monster Hunter Wilds' Chatacabra Armor. However, you'll still need to beat the Chatacabra to collect more monster pieces for the set. Additionally, you can use Sharp Fangs for the Hungerless Charm I Talisman, which offers the Hunger Resistance Skill. This item requires Balahara Scale and Tail monster parts, deriving from A Hunter's Pride Chapter 1-4. If you have too many Sharp Fangs, you can sell them to the Provisions Stockpile to gain 100 Zenny for each one.

The spider-like Lala Barina is one of the first bosses in Scarlet Forest you'll have to stand against. It'll prove deadly with its blossoming flower, ultimately paralyzing you with its destructive properties. To help you with this fight, here's how to defeat Lala Barina in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Table of contents
How to defeat Lala Barina in Monster Hunter Wilds
You'll initially come across Lala Barina in the Chapter 1-3, Forest Findings. From then on, this beast will roam about in the Forest and Wyveria regions or be featured as a boss in the Optional Quests. Before you set off on this endeavor, ensure you eat a meal to gain extra health and stamina.
![]()
Lala Barina weaknesses and preparations
To better prepare yourself for the battle, here's a list of suitable weaknesses, Status Effects, and items:
Stunning works best with the Lala Barina, so you can bring a trap to trounce the creature. However, I suggest avoiding the Sonic Bomb since it won't really do you much good in this fight.
All Lala Barina movesets
Lala Barina has three moves you need to look out for:
Do your best to avoid its paralysis attacks, which will float around the battlefield when it displays its rose. Getting hit by it once or twice is okay, but it'll eventually take a toll with enough strikes. Those in a paralysis state can shake it off by quickly moving their character around for a few seconds.
![]()
Luckily, avoiding Lala Barina's attack is pretty easy since its movements are relatively slow. That'll give you time to strike the weak spots on its leg, face, and claws. You can also go from behind its body if you don't want to get too close to its face. Take advantage of any wounds while in Focus Mode, dealing a hefty amount of damage.
![]()
The Lala Barina's Tail, aka the rose, is the creature's most significant weak point. Nevertheless, it'll be pretty challenging to target, especially when it spouts out its paralytic effects.
How to collect all Lala Barina parts in Monster Hunter Wilds
The Lala Barina features two breakable parts: its petals and claws. If it breaks off, be sure to grab it when the creature starts to run away or when the quest ends.
![]()
You can use the Lala Barina body parts to craft weapons, armor, and other equipment with Gemma. Although you'll receive most of them during the battle, you'll have the chance to gain more as a target reward. Here are all the possible items you can get:
Speak to Gemma about constructing the complete armor set or weapon upgrade from the Lala Barina Tree. Some parts are also a part of the Talisman recipes, including Blessing Charm I, Dragon Charm I, and Paralysis Charm I.

Although online games are great for co-op gameplay, it's not always ideal when you have to step away. Fortunately, Monster Hunter Wilds players can pause the game, even if they are online. Here's what you need to do to activate it.
How do you pause the game in Monster Hunter Wilds?
You can pause the game while in Online Single Player mode, which can be found on the Title Screen. If you have already logged into a lobby, you can speak to Alma to change it to this mode. You can then pause it by going to the System setting.
![]()
Once you've selected 'Pause Game' in Monster Hunter Wilds, gameplay will stop as if it were Offline Mode. If you're in the middle of a fight, it will halt any enemy attack and keep your health intact. Though, I still recommend getting out of their line of sight just in case.
You can pick up from where you left off by selecting the Resume option. A Sub-menu is also available here for those who want to access Photo Mode. This mechanic can hide the game's UI and display your photo album. Although you can only pause the game as a solo player, you still have access to multiplayer features. Anytime you need help, you can unleash a SOS Flare to get assistance from fellow players or NPCs.
Does Monster Hunter Wilds have an Offline Mode?
Monster Hunter Wilds does have an Offline Mode. If you look at the PlayStation Store, you'll see that the game includes an 'Online play optional' feature. I tried it myself by turning off my internet, and the game went into Offline Mode immediately after. Mission progression and saves seem to work just fine in this mode, so there's no need to worry about losing content.
![]()
Whenever you want to return to an online lobby, you can speak to Alma or use the Title Screen to change it. It may take a few seconds to reconnect, but eventually, it should return you to your original position.

Armor plays a crucial part in Monster Hunter Wilds, protecting you against many elemental attacks. We're here to show all Armor Sets and their recipes to help you survive through this courageous journey.
Table of contents
All Hunter Armor Sets and ingredients in Monster Hunter Wilds
You'll initially acquire three sets of Armor with Hope, Leather, and Chainmail. These recipes don't require ingredients, but you must exchange money to obtain different variants. Once you've taken down your first monster, you can start carving its pieces to unlock new Armor Sets in Monster Hunter Wilds. The more you progress through the main campaign, the more you'll discover new enemy types.

While most ingredients come from the monsters you hunt, there are a few resources you can gather through exploration. These include ore and bones scattered throughout the game's regions. Your Hunter's Guild teammate, Gemma, is there to assist you in crafting armor for you and your Palico companion, providing the support you need to succeed. Make sure to seek her out at Base Camp. We'll provide a detailed breakdown of each MHW Armor Set and the ingredients required to craft them. You'll have access to the Low Rank sets initially, then uncover High Ranks during the endgame.

The Forbidden Lands holds a variety of ore types that can be used for various Armor recipes. However, since the map includes many regions, you may have trouble locating specific ones. We're here to help by showing all ore locations in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where to find all ore in Monster Hunter Wilds
You'll find a ton of Mining Outcrop map icons throughout the Forbidden Lands. They'll be marked with their distinct blue icon with a question mark. You can get there quickly by setting the waypoint on it and using the Seikret's auto-run feature.
![]()
![]()
Sometimes, your Palico will do all the heavy lifting for you and mine it automatically. You may also purchase ore directly from Item Trade shops by exchanging a unique material with the merchant. But, if you want to get it yourself, here's where you can find all ore in Monster Hunter Wilds:
There may be a few more ores you can collect during the endgame stages, so I'll update this piece once I've discovered them.
How often does ore respawn in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Mining Outcrops respawn every 15 minutes in real time. It's a bit longer than other resources, but you can always search around the map to pinpoint other Outcrops. Plus, if you've exhausted all the mining areas in one region, you can move on to the next one for more options.
How to use ore in Monster Hunter Wilds
You can use ore to forge and upgrade weapons, armor, Talismans, and Palico Equipment. When speaking to Gemma, several ores are a part of armor sets, like Chatacabra, Alloy, and Ingot. Your tool's Weapon Tree also utilizes this resource, providing additional attack strength.
![]()
Most recipes require combining ore with monster materials, especially with the Talismans. To farm these resources, you can explore the world or speak to Alma, who can provide you with Optional Quests that are specifically designed for resource gathering.

Crafting is one of the most efficient ways to save Zenny and power up your Hunter journey. However, many items are region-specific, limiting access to specific recipes. Don't worry; we're here to guide you by showing you how to get all Crafting Materials in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where to find all Crafting Materials in Monster Hunter Wilds
The starter region, Windward Plains, is rich with beneficial resources, from healing herbs to powerful bugs. You'll open the door to more materials as you progress through Monster Hunter Wilds' main campaign, unlocking more locations for you to discover. A select few Crafting Materials will be easy to acquire, as Arthur will put them up for sale via the Base Camp's Provisions Stockpile.
![]()
Completing missions will also provide you with goods, often rewarding you with restorative items. Alternatively, you can find them yourself through standard exploration with the map's Filter Icons section. Let's break down all the methods you can use to get each Crafting Material in Monster Hunter Wilds.
You can use your Slinger to gather most materials, whether on foot or while riding your Seikret. Remember, some resources are region-restricted, including cool-temperature items for Oilwell Basin. The Chillshroom is a must-have in a heated environment, similar to Iceshard Cliff's Hot Pepper item.
![]()
Other Monster Hunter Wilds' Crafting Materials require you to do some crafting first. For instance, you'll need an Ivy and Spider Web to make a Net. It'll probably take a bit of time to gather every item, and you'll likely need to complete the main campaign to truly experience everything the game has to offer. Given the vastness of Monster Hunter Wilds' expansive map, there might be a few elusive items that didn't make it onto this list. I'll update this guide if I discover any new resources in the Forbidden Lands.

While most monsters are easy enough to see, the Endemic Life creatures offer a challenge through their smaller sizes. The Dapperwing, in particular, will be hard to spot, especially in the vast greenery of Scarlet Forest. Find out where to find the Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds.
All Dapperwing locations in Monster Hunter Wilds
The Dapperwing can be found in Zones 2 and 3 at Scarlet Forest. Unlike the Tracktail Lizard from Dareel's Research Report quest, you'll likely need to look up to see them flying around. They'll be pretty challenging to spot as their green coloring blends in with the surrounding vegetation. However, you can sometimes take notice of their vibrant color palette when they're trying to court a female (they almost look like birds with a tail.)
![]()
I've generally found them sitting on tree branches and vines near water, but you may be able to locate them elsewhere. If they are too high up, I suggest aiming your Capture Net at them and moving for a better angle. When ready for a shot, the net's capture radius will illuminate yellow, so try to hit that sweet spot.
![]()
![]()
If it doesn't work, you'll likely need to travel to another area or wait for the Dapperwing to move. I've noticed that multiple groups tend to spawn around each compatible zone, giving you more chances. Once you've captured the creature, go to Samin in the Windward Plains' Base Camp. You only need one to complete the Samin's Research Project quest, but you can collect more to farm additional Guild points.
Samin will reward you with crafting materials, including 10 Blue Mushrooms and five Honey. You'll use Honey often to conjure up Mega Potions and Blue Mushrooms for boosted effects. You can also collect more Endemic Life creatures for the Monster Hunter Wilds collection. Scarlet Forest showcases plenty of critters within this class, including Vigormantle Bug, Paratoad, and Wedge Beetle. Acquire them to gather more research and Guild points for your group.

If you want to give yourself a fighting chance in Monster Hunter Wilds, you can equip a Talisman for a handy new skill. You'll have a range of options tailored to your unique playstyle. To help you with this decision, here's a Monster Hunter Wilds Talismans tier list.
Best Talismans in Monster Hunter Wilds, ranked
The Smithy Gemma offers a diverse array of tools, including weapons, armor, and Palico equipment. While most of these gear provide unique skills of their own, you can attach a Talisman to gain an additional ability. We're here to rank all the Talismans in Monster Hunter Wilds, starting with the best of the best in the S Tier and ending with the lower grade C Tiers.
S Tier
![]()
When it comes to the S Tier, you'll gain the most advantages through the Talismans' robust capabilities. Each one will get you through the game's brutal battles, boosting health, defense, stamina, or evasion. Choosing one will all depend on your playstyle, whether you favor speed over defense or a player who wants maximum health.
The Hope Charm may be the best Talisman in Monster Hunter Wilds, as it is one of the few that grants two abilities. However, there are still a lot of excellent choices here, including Chainblade's accessible wound attacks or the Bleed Charm's protection for bleeding.
A Tier
![]()
While the S Tier Talismans are the epitome of excellence, the A Tier shines in specific situations that arise frequently. For example, you'll go against many fiery fiends, where the Fire Charm becomes an indispensable ally. But, of course, it's not so handy when you're fighting against a non-fire monster, so you'll likely need to switch it up to acquire a better skill.
The A Tier also excels in exploration, especially with the Marathon Charm, which helps with dashing. Another one I found beneficial is the Glutton's Charm, a Talisman that quickens the pace of the gradual item-consuming speed.
B Tier
![]()
The B Tier Talismans play into niche experiences that may not come up as often as A Tier. Poison-based enemies, for instance, don't appear as frequently as fire-based ones, so you'll only need to use them for specific situations. This tier also enhances particular playstyles, including those who thrive in teams, sneak attacks, or scavenging.
If you enjoy collecting plenty of herbs, the Botany Charm will be perfect for you. But, if you're more of a bonepile gatherer, go for the Geology Charm.
C Tier
![]()
Compared to the rest of the Monster Hunter Wilds Talismans tiers, the C Tier items aren't the most helpful. I'm not saying they are bad choices, but they just don't have enough advantages like the other items. Take, for example, the Intimidator Charm, which reduces the chances of tiny monsters spotting you. Although it's nice to avoid any unnecessary battles, I never really had any problems with these particular monsters.
The Mushroom Charm is another not-so-great Talisman since there aren't many benefits to consuming mushrooms. You can rely on other items to improve your performance, so it's best not to waste your Talisman slot for this charm. Nevertheless, you can still equip the ones in C Tier if they genuinely benefit your playstyle. Don't let this lower-tier grading deter you from choosing it.

Although you'll spend most of your time defeating monsters, you'll sometimes need to preserve life rather than take it. The Dareel's Research Report quest is a perfect example, as you capture Tracktail Lizards. We're here to show where to find these creatures in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where to find Tracktail Lizards in Monster Hunter Wilds
You can begin Dareel's Research Report sometime during Chapter 1-5. A marker for it appears at the Plains Base Camp, leading you to Dareel's location. He'll only provide a vague description of the Tracktail Lizards' whereabouts, but fortunately, there's a way to narrow them down. These Endemic Life creatures will be in Windward Plain's Zones 11 and 12, where groups often travel around the desert.
![]()
Tracktail Lizards tend to show up more in the sandy dunes of the Plains, so don't waste your time looking around any grassy or wet areas. I've had the most luck with Zones 11 and 12, but these creatures are a bit tricky to spot. Compared to other monsters, they are tiny and move swiftly around. Use your binoculars to locate them more efficiently.
![]()
![]()
When you've finally tracked a Tracktail Lizard, equip your Capture Net and crouch down. Luckily, these creatures won't get scared when you're nearby. I still recommend moving slowly, though, to reduce the risk of them running away. As long as you've captured one lizard, you'll complete Dareel's Research Report quest in Monster Hunter Wilds.
You'll unlock a new species for the Expedition Command tent, found at Windward Plains' Base Camp. The Samin's Research Report side quest will also be available, taking you on another Endemic Life adventure. Keep in mind that these particular critters cannot be used to make armor, as you can only capture them alive. However, they still have some uses for crafting, including the Flashflies' flash bomb effect.

At the start of your MHW journey, you'll have the freedom to deck out your character and Palico. But, when it comes to your mount, you won't have the power to personalize it initially. Fortunately, this opportunity will arrive later, and we're here to show you how to customize Seikret.
How to unlock Seikret Customization in Monster Hunter Wilds
You'll unlock the Monster Hunter Wilds' Seikret Customization feature after you complete Chapter 1-5: Pursuit of Solitude. When the Elder gives you full access to Kunafa village, you'll see an optional task that enlists you to speak to Nona. Talk to her to begin personalizing your Seikret mount. This mechanic is much more intricate than the Seikret Decoration mode, which only has limited options.
![]()
Like character customization, you can tweak multiple factors with Seikret, specifically with its colors and patterns. This includes the inner and outer feathers, allowing you to mix and match with different colors. You can also have two different eye colors if you want a unique spin on its build.
Once satisfied with the coloring, you can move on to the saddle and pendant type. Keep in mind that these are merely cosmetics, so you can choose any items to get the preferred style you want. Last but not least is the option to change its name, which is limited to 15 characters.
![]()
The other section in the Seikret Customization summarises the mount's essential features, but I recommend sticking to the first page to access all content. You'll receive the Ride-or-die Companion trophy afterward, rewarding you for your decorating efforts.
How to change Seikret appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds
If you ever want to change the appearance of your Seikret in MHW, go to the Windward Plains' Kunafa village or visit your Tent. Upon completing the Pursuit of Solitude quest, you'll now see the Seikret Customization option in the Base Camp.
![]()
Changing the mount's appearance at Kunafa can be more challenging since the game often locks you out of free-roaming exploration. You'll likely need to progress further in the main campaign to revisit Nona. But if it's too complicated, just use your Tent to access it easily.

When you enter the vast world of Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll receive a fishing rod and basic materials. While this activity might initially seem a bit perplexing due to its minimal instructions, don't fret. We're here to guide you by showing you how to lure and fish in MHW.
Monster Hunter Wilds fishing guide
The first thing you need to do for MHW's fishing activity is find a suitable fishing spot where you can clearly see critters swimming. There aren't too many bodies of water in the Windward Plains (aka the starting region), but you can utilize a small pond on the map's northern side.
![]()
Once you've found a fishing spot, equip your fishing rod from your Item Bar and cast your line. You'll need to lure the fish over by moving/jigging your line. Although it may seem like you're going to scare the fish away, critters are actually more enticed when they see something moving about. Each fish reacts differently to specific motions, so try to see what type of movement attracts them more. You may also change your lures via the Item Bar to attract other critters (you'll unlock more lures as you progress through the story). Additionally, you can use your Capture Net to gather critters if you feel like trying a new approach.
![]()
Based on my experience, it's best not to cast your line directly on the fish, as this does seem to spook them. Try to cast it in their line of sight and then move around to get their attention. It takes some patience, but you can always try again when it doesn't work in your favor. If it's successful, a critter will swim over to you immediately, and you can reel it in using the same button you used to cast it. Watch out for debris to ensure it doesn't disrupt the process.
When you venture into Scarlet Forest, you'll find many more places to fish. This destination holds many spots, including one right at camp.

While at the Base Camp, you can participate in Kanya's Fishing: Life in Microcosm side quest, which provides some helpful tips on this activity. The mission rewards you with five Sushifish Scale, five Honey, and 20 Guild Points. In return, you can start making fish-based recipes to cook up excellent meals for your Monster Hunter Wilds journey. You should also check back with Kanya during the endgame stages to unlock more fish types and lures.

Before you head out on your monster-hunting escapades, you should always consume a meal to raise your stamina and health. You'll survive much longer through this method, similar to past Monster Hunter iterations. In this guide, we'll go over the best meals to eat in Monster Hunter Wilds.
What are the best meals in Monster Hunter Wilds?
You'll collect resources for meal recipes throughout your adventures, whether from Tom's Ingredient Center or villagers. Rations are required to cook these dishes, and you can get them for free at your Base Camp. Meat, Fish, and Veggies will always be provided, giving you standard buffs for effects. However, if you want to improve its stats, you must add an ingredient. Let's dig into the best meal combinations to eat in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Veggies and Droolshroom
![]()
The Veggies and Droolshroom is one of the best early meals you can make, providing a total of five buffs. You'll discover Droolshrooms while exploring Scarlet Forest, which is found near the Wudwuds. Combining the ingredients provides the Black Belt Meal, a buff that reduces stamina depletion.
Meat and Kunafa Cheese
![]()
As you embark on your journey in Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll find yourself aiding the residents of Kunafa Village. In return, they'll share their renowned cheese, unlocking the Defender Meal. This buff increases your survivability by occasionally reducing the damage you've taken in a battle.
Fish and Mud Shrimp
![]()
For those seeking a robust defense, the Fish and Mud Shrimp meal is the answer. This ultimate seafood dish, with its additional stat points and Tumbler Meal buff, makes it easier to survive through the game's many intense showdowns. You'll find the Mud Shrimp at Oilwell Basin, extending your evasion's invulnerability.
Fish and Sild Garlic
![]()
As you progress further in Monster Hunter Wilds' main campaign, you'll be introduced to Sild Garlic, another helpful ingredient that boosts a meal's duration. It has qualities similar to Droolshroom but with slightly more defense. Sild Garlic also boasts the Moxie Meal, a Food Skill that prevents fainting (at least once) when you take in a substantial amount of damage.
Veggies and Fluffy Egg
![]()
World's Downy Crakes have returned in Monster Hunter Wilds, expanding the Endemic Life monster collection. They'll leave behind delicious Fluffy Eggs, which includes the Caprice Meal buff. Combine it with Veggies to gain a temporary attack boost randomly.

Whether you're new to the Monster Hunter series or returning, understanding its complex armor system can be quite challenging. So, if you need some tips on choosing the right gear, here are the best starting armor you can use in Monster Hunter Wilds.
What are the best early Armor Sets in Monster Hunter Wilds?
When you first begin your journey into Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll be introduced to various types of armor, including Hope, Leather, and Chainmail. Although they offer some pretty decent buffs, you can do a lot better with specific upgrades. Let's break down what starter Armor Sets are the best.
Chatacabra Armor Set
![]()
The Chapter 1-1 quest, Desert Trotters, pits you against the deadly Chatacabra monster. Bring them down to unlock Chatacabra materials at the Smithy, providing you with much more defense. Each piece offers a substantial +6 Defense and resistance to specific elements, such as Water and Fire. Some materials also include a Speed Eating buff that moderately increases eating speed.
Chatacabra Required Materials
Quematrice Armor Set
![]()
By Chapter 1-2, you'll discover another large monster, the Quematrice. Like the Chatacabra, it provides +6 Defense with its distinct Helm, Mail, Braces, Coil, and Greaves. Items such as the Quematrice Braces and Helm harness a Flinch Free skill, which reduces the risk of knockbacks from enemies. Quematric Armor Sets are great for fiery fiends, as most materials offer Fire Resistance.
Quematrice Required Materials
Alloy Armor Set
![]()
If you want to break from monster hunting, you can collect ore to make the Alloy Armor Set. This gear boosts your sheathing speed and nullifies ground tremors caused by monsters. The Alloy set also has a unique metal look differing from the furry and reptilian designs of creatures.
Alloy Required Materials
Conga Armor Set
![]()
When you unlock the Scarlet Forest region, you'll encounter the Congalala monster. It'll offer slightly more defense than the Chatacabra, Quematrice, and Alloy sets. The Conga Greaves and Helm provide the Mushroomance skill, allowing you to ingest blue mushrooms and toadstools. Other materials also include Stench Resistance to reduce stench duration by 50 percent.
Conga Required Materials
Barina Armor Set
![]()
As you progress through Forest Findings Chapter 1-3, you'll encounter Lala Barina. Defeating it will reward you with two powerful armor buffs: Paralysis Resistance and Recovery Up. The first skill reduces paralysis duration by 30 percent, while the second increases the amount of health you'll receive when recovering.
Barina Required Materials
Balahara Armor Set
![]()
A Hunter's Pride Chapter 1-4 introduces the Balahara monster, unlocking a sleek black Armor Set. One of the biggest takeaways from this gear is the Hunger Resistance perk, which gradually reduces your maximum stamina depletion. Plus, it'll enhance your evade distance to help you survive longer.
Balahara Required Materials
Doshaguma Armor Set
![]()
In addition to the Balahara, you'll encounter the frightful Doshaguma beast. Its distinct Armor Set grants you one of the highest early defense and dragon resistance stats. You'll also gain the Free Meal and Item Prolonger skills to increase your chances of earning free food and extend item effect durations.
Doshaguma Required Materials
Uth Duna Armor Set
![]()
The Uth Duna Armor Set is quite possibly the best gear you can unlock early on, earning you a substantial 26 Defense. You'll find this creature during the Beyond the Deluge Chapter 1-5. The Armor Set's skill, Peak Performace, gives you three additional points for the Attack stat and shortens your recharge time by 10 percent with Tool Specialist.

If you purchased any special editions of Monster Hunter Wilds such as the Deluxe Edition or Premium Deluxe Edition, you probably want to get your hands on your special DLC as soon as possible. Here is how you can get all your Deluxe Edition DLC content in Monster Hunter Wilds.
![]()
How to redeem Deluxe Edition bonus content
In order to get your Deluxe Edition DLC content in Monster Hunter Wilds, you need to visit the Palico Conut at your base camp which runs the Support Desk. You cannot access Conut until you complete the early introduction quests for Monster Hunter Wilds and gain access to roam the base camp.
The earliest in which you can access Conut and get your bonus content is immediately after the prologue quest in which you save the brother and have to fight your first real monster: a Chatacabra. Aftward, you will head back to base camp and after a brief segment of dialogue will have full access to roam around the camp. From the entrance to the camp, take a left and look on the right and you will see a white Palico standing ontop of a crate. This is Conut, who runs the Support Desk at base camp.
Approach Conut and interact with him ('F' key by default for PC) and choose "I'd like to request support." which will open the Support Desk menu. From here, select Claim Content at the bottom of the menu. You must be connected to the internet for this part to load, but it should then display all the digital DLC content you have access to. Select them each one-by-one then hit the 'F' key twice to Claim Contents on each of the DLC you are trying to redeem. Keep in mind you can only redeem each DLC content once!
Once you've redeemed the DLC, visit your Tent where you can change your cosmetic options and outfit and you should see all of your newly redeemed DLC content available to choose!

Nothing quite beats slaying monsters with your friends, so of course multiplayer has made a return in Monster Hunter Wilds. Here's the fastest way to access multiplayer in Monster Hunter Wilds as well as how the multiplayer mode works.
![]()
How to unlock multiplayer
After completing the initial prologue mission that has you save the brother and defeat your first monster, the Chatacabra, you will unlock access to the base camp as well as multiplayer. In order to start multiplayer, visit Felicita, the Squad Information Counter. She will allow you to create Lobby or a Squad and start participating in multiplayer.
The fastest way to reach Felicita and unlock multiplayer is to head straight forward from the entrance of the base camp and you will see her sitting in front of the main tent.
How multiplayer works in Monster Hunter Wilds
In Monster Hunter Wilds, multiplayer works by first creating a Lobby. Creating a Lobby will turn your base camp area into a multiplayer hub, where you can invite friends to bring them into a shared instance of your world where you can talk and make plans to group up. Each Lobby can hold up to 100 players total, but only 16 other players at a time will show up at the base camp visually, though you can affect who shows up by grouping with them.
From here, if you want to group up, you will need to form a Link Party. A Link Party can hold up to four players and forms a dedicated chat channel between those players. When a party member accepts a quest, all members in the Link Party will get the invite to that quest. Furthermore, returning from a quest or adventure will keep the Link Party intact when you return to base camp.
Inside a Link Party, you can also invite members to start an Environment Link. You can then share the same environment with other players, allowing you to tackle investigations together. Some story missions may need to be completed solo before you can create an Environment Link.
Regardless of whether you're in a Lobby or Link Party, you can use an SOS Flare at any time to play wither other players as well.
What are Squads?
Squads are essentially mini-guilds in Monster Hunter Wilds. You can create or join a Squad at any time which will give you access to an interface to see all of your Squad members, their Hunter Rank, current activity, if they are online, and more. You can also use this interface to quickly and easily setup Squad-based Lobbies and even Link Parties.
Each Squad can have 50 members at a time, and you can be a member of up to 8 Squads at once. In this regard, Squads act more similarly to Linkshells from Final Fantasy XI than standard guilds which only allow you to be in one at a time!

Early on in Monster Hunter Wilds you'll gain access to a quest to Slay 12 Bulaqchi, a bug-like monster. Here's the best place to find and slay Bulacqchi in the Plains for the Buggin' in the Desert quest in Monster Hunter Wilds.
![]()
Where to find and Slay Bulaqchi in the Plains
The best place to find and slay Bulaqchi in the Plains map of Monster Hunter Wilds is on the lower levels in between regions 2 and 3 on the map. There are several spots on this lower cavernous level, both in regions 2 and 3 as well as in between the two that spawn groups of Bulaqchi, often in groups of 4-6.
This is essentially on the westernmost side of the map based on the compass, but make sure you navigate down to the lower level as you will not find the Bulaqchi on the upper levels.
Bulaqchi are essentially insectoid-like mosquito-looking monsters except they stay on the ground and do not fly. They travel in groups and will jump on their target in an attempt to suck their blood. The Bulaqchi are classified as Neopterons in Monster Hunter Wilds.
You'll probably need to kill two or three groups of them to reach the 12 required to complete the objective of Slay 12 Bulaqchi which is required for the Buggin' in the Desert quest. Thankfully, these are very easy to kill and will only take a single hit or two to take down, so no real strategy is required to kill the 12 needed for the quest.
After killing the Bulaqchi, make sure you take the time to harvest the carcasses of each of them as they provide the valuable Bulaqchi Shell which can be used to craft various items, or you can sell them them for some quick Zenny.

If you've played Monster Hunter Worlds, you'll be familiar with the Slinger. However, it's been upgraded in Monster Hunter Wilds, adding a grappling hook-like attachment. Here's how to use the Hook Slinger in Monster Hunter Wilds.
![]()
How to use the Hook Slinger
The new Hook Slinger is connected directly with your Slinger, allowing you to easily hook onto and collect resources like never before as well as interact with the environment in monsters in new and unique ways. By default, you use the Hook Slinger by pulling out your Slinger (the side Mouse Button 4 on PC by default). While you're aiming the Slinger, look at a spot or item you want to grapple into with the Hook Slinger. From here, pushing the 'F' key by default on PC will fire the Hook Slinger.
If you fire the Hook Slinger at resources around the area like Herbs, Ore, Mushrooms, and Bugs, your Hook Slinger will automatically latch onto and collect the resource for you. However, if you're not aimed at a resource and are aiming at just somewhere in the environment, it will fire the Hook Slinger at that exact location.
Here are the controls for using the Hook Slinger by default on each platform:
You can also use the Hook Slinger to grab onto boulders and yank them down, causing damage to the monsters below. There are also various creatures like the Wedge Beetle that you can find around the Plains and other regions that you can Hook Slinger onto in order to traverse hard-to-reach places.
Finally, you can also use your Slinger and Hook Slinger while mounted on your Seikret in Monster Hunter Wilds. You simply use the same controls as above but can do so while riding on the Seikret. This allows you to easily and efficiently ride around farming resources using your Hook Slinger and Seikret!

In previous Monster Hunter games you were restricted to one weapon at time in the field. In Monster Hunter Wilds, however, you can have an extra weapon sheathed on your Seikret which you can swap to when in the field. Here is how to change weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds.
How to change weapons in the field
As long as you have another weapon equipped to your mount (Seikret) in Monster Hunter Wilds, you can swap to that weapon at any time when out in the field in any region, as long as your Seikret is in the field with you. Some missions will keep the Seikret at base camp, in which case you cannot change your weapons in the field.
You can call your Seikret to your location at anytime, with the button to do so being different on each platform. Here is how you call your Seikret on each platform:
Once you've called your Seikret, you can change weapons either why mounting it or near it. Doing so will sheathe the weapon you currently have equipped onto the Seikret, and take the one you have stored with the Seikret and make it your primary weapon. Here is how to change weapons on each platform:
A good strategy is to have both a melee weapon like the Great Sword, Hammer, or Lance, as well as a ranged weapon like the Bow, or one of the Bowguns. This will allow you to quickly switch between ranged and melee attacks based on the circumstance, and enable you to take advantage of various environmental actions even if you're a melee player.

How to change equipped weapons at base camp
Now that you know how to change your weapons in the field, you're going to want to know how to change which weapons you can switch between when out on the field. To do so simply head to your tent at base camp and when the tent menu pops up, go right to the second menu screen and choose to change equipment. Here you can equip both your primary weapon as well as the weapon you want stored on your Seikret for easy access when in the field.

The first Large Monster you'll come across in Monster Hunter Wilds is the new amphibian and frog-like Chatacabra. This marks the creature's first appearance in Monster Hunter, so both new and veteran players alike might be wondering how to beat the Chatacabra and break all its available parts.
![]()
Monster Hunter Wilds Chatacabra strategy
The key to defeating the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds is to focus on its long soft tongue. Typically the Chatacabra will use its long tongue to attempt to eat nearby Bulaqchi, the mosquito-like creatures in the Plains region. The Chatacabra tongue is its weak point, but there's also a strategy to exposing the Chatacabra's tongue for easy damage.
If you look at the front legs of the Chatacabra, you'll see multiple ore veins stuck to their forelimbs. Attacking and breaking the ore on the Chatacabra's legs will expose its entire frontal area, allowing you to more easily attack its tongue.
The forelegs of the Chatacabra are also the only two breakable parts of the large monster. As you continue to focus your damage on the ore deposits on the Chatacabra's forelegs, you will eventually break it off, allowing you to then collect Chatacabra Shells for doing so.
In terms of Elemental Attacks, the Chatacabra is vulnerable to Ice and Thunder damage and can be affected by Flash Pods, Shock Traps, and Pitfall Traps. The Sonic Bomb, however, is not effective.
Chatacabra Loot Table
The Chatacabra offers low rank materials when defeating, carving, and breaking forelegs of the large monster. The Chatacabra Shell is the most common equipment material but also the most valuable, with a guaranteed acquisition rate for breaking the forelegs of the Chatacabra. These materials are used to make the Chatacabra armor set.
