New Star Citizen free event is the perfect chance to play big MMO and space game

Star Citizen has taken on almost mythic proportions over the years. Its creator, eager to outdo the visions of outer space offered by games like Eve Online, No Man's Sky, and Starfield, has been working on fleshing out a wildly ambitious MMO simulation for more than a decade now, even as other projects in its wheelhouse come and go. Given how long the game has been in active production, though, it can be hard for interested players to know when to give Star Citizen a shot. Luckily, there's no better time than now, since a current 'free fly' event makes it easier than ever to give the game a look.

Endzone is one of the most underrated strategy games on PC, and it's only $3

There never seems to be a real shortage of worthwhile strategy games to check out. Over the last year, we've had Frostpunk 2 and Civilization 7 launch, with Manor Lords, Homeworld 3, and Age of Mythology: Retold come out as well. With all of these newer options, it's easy for older entries to the genre to get lost in the shuffle, including the excellent post-apocalyptic city builder Endzone 2 and its equally compelling predecessor, Endzone: A World Apart. Anyone looking to give the series a try is in luck right now, though, as the first Endzone is currently available with a massive discount that brings its price down to just $3.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered is real, and we'll know more very soon

It's been nearly two decades since The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion first came out, with only Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls Online as main series follow-ups in the time since. This is probably the reason there's been such a fervor surrounding the rumours of a remastered version of Oblivion that have been swirling around the internet for the past several years, growing in volume over the last few weeks. Now, we've finally received confirmation that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is not only real, but that we should have all the facts on its coming launch very soon.

Oblivion Remastered release date estimate, leaks, and more

When is the Oblivion Remastered release date? An Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion re-release has been rumored for years now, and given Bethesda's penchant for repacking Skyrim over the past decade, we're surprised this hasn't come sooner. It may not be a full remake of the original game, but based on the Oblivion Remastered leaks we've seen so far, this is far from a low effort project.

It's fair to say that Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion established Bethesda as the masters of RPGs, setting a new standard for open world games at the time. Whether you're returning to Cyrodiil after almost 20 years or you're stepping into Oblivion's massive world for the first time, we're here to break down all the information about the upcoming re-release, including the release date, leaked details, and more.

Despite Dying Light The Beast, Techland promises it won't abandon Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 Stay Human launched more than three years ago, but its creator, Techland, has continued to support the game since then through major updates and events. Some audiences might have been concerned that the studio's next game, the upcoming Dying Light: The Beast, would shift attention away from the team's prior work, but, fortunately, as we've just learned through an interview with the series' franchise director, this doesn't seem to be the case.

Broken Arrow is a dream RTS game, fusing realistic milsims with outright action

Even as the most cast-iron acolyte of Command and Conquer, I know its battles can often feel too fast, too simple, and too fluid. For a more authentic military strategy experience, it's best to go elsewhere: Warno, Steel Division, the classic World in Conflict. But then I come up against another problem. These games are detailed, and rooted in more 'realistic' aesthetics and mechanics, but that sometimes makes them inscrutable. They're slow and complex; by design, they're hard to get into, and can feel too much like work. I want C&C. But I also want something that feels more grounded, and more tactically demanding - but then I also don't want a simulation game. Broken Arrow is the first RTS to successfully walk the line.

Skull and Bones has a number of massive updates in store, shown off over a recent free trial period, and Star Wars Outlaws has received plenty of major design tweaks and overhauls as well. New Nice Prison Manga Debuts in Shonen Jump

Shueisha announced a new manga series called Nice Prison is now available in Weekly Shonen Jump. The first chapter debuted on April 20, 2025. It's from Tatsuya Suganuma, who hasn't worked on too many series beyond a four-koma original just yet. It is available in English via both MangaPlus and Viz Media.

Nice Prison stars Horo Mitsuboshi, who has been a Super Model Prisoner at Nobana-shi Prison for three years. He's used as an example to others to follow rules, stay in line, and serve their time peacefully. He "works" alongside Tera Adachi, a newly appointed guard at the prison who is following in her father's footsteps. However, she finds all of the guards there are terrible at her job, and the prisoners are doing ridiculous things like recreating the upside-down Spider-Man kiss, blowing bubbles, treating guards like they're dogs having hair cuts at a groomer, and doing aerial yoga. It's then that Horo appears and everyone suddenly falls in line.

Mitsuboshi then confirms his mom gave birth to him in prison. When he heard what happened to Nobana-shi, he decided to purposely get himself arrested and thrown in there to make it a better place. After learning what caused the facility to go downhill, Mitsuboshi and Adachi head out to face the major criminal behind the problems.

The first chapter of Nice Prison is available now, and the second chapter of the new Weekly Shonen Jump manga will debut on April 27, 2025. The first three chapters will be available for free, as will the six latest chapters according to MangaPlus.

Honkai: Star Rail Chrysos Heir Wiki Covers Amphoreus Characters

HoYoVerse announced a new official wiki website that is dedicated to the Chrysos Heir characters found on Amphoreus in Honkai: Star Rail. It currently features eight people, with empty spots for four more. All of them are ones expected to be playable, with all except Phainon appearing in updates 3.0 through 3.2. In addition to dedicated profiles for each character, there are also magazine entries with issues about each person, with Agalea, Tribbie, Mydeimos, and Castorice ones online now.

In the Chrysos Heir character section of the new Honkai: Star Rail Amphoreus wiki, there are the character portraits and a timeline function. You can see details from 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2. Each person's section includes basic information about them, a gallery with official videos, art, and cutscene images, a diagram going over relationships with other characters from the region, and the story section that discusses their personal lore. The relationship diagrams seem most affected by shifting between version updates, with Anaxagoras and Tribbie's relationship being one that notably changes between 3.1 and 3.2 as an example.

Meanwhile, the magazines are more of a fun way for us to learn about people. There will be insights about individuals from other characters. Trivia comes up. There's also an "interview" with each person as well.

As a reminder, the Chrysos Heir characters on Amphoreus in Honkai: Star Rail seem to all be based on the 13 Flame-Chasers from Honkai Impact 3rd. For example, Phainon is a clear expy of Kevin Kaslana. Aglaea is tied to Aponia. It seems like Mydei could be Kalpas. Anaxa is absolutely Su. Hyacine might be Sakura. Castorice appears to be the Griseo expy. Cipher, meanwhile, represents Pardofelis. The missing characters so far are Elysia, Eden, Vill-V, Kosma, Mobius, and Hua.

There are two Chrysos Heirs who debuted in 3.2. The first is Castorice, who is around until April 30, 2025. The Anaxagoras banner launches on April 30, 2025, then runs until May 20, 2025.

Casey Edwards Composed Last Gawr Gura Song

The Cursed Hollow Easter event Forest Spirit in a summoning circle in Phasmophobia

The yearly seasonal events are one of my favorite parts of Phasmophobia. My love for them hasn't gone away, but it's definitely subsided as what used to be unique events with novel gameplay concepts have quickly shifted to mostly monotonous tasks with little originality.

Visually, Phasmophobia has never looked better between the Bleasdale Farmhouse rework and the superb decorations for the Easter event. But the gameplay in Cursed Hollow feels incredibly empty by comparison. There are glimpses of the exciting features present in old events, like the unpredictable Forest Minion effects, but most of it feels like set dressing and a massive step backward for the ghost-hunting game.

Cursed Hollow and all of the more recent events from 2024 are missing the challenging and unique aspects that older events had. Instead of pushing ghost hunters to play and explore the game in new ways with fresh themes and features, events have become formulaic and predictable.

2023 was the peak year for Phasmophobia events, and both the Halloween and Christmas events feel like the pinnacle of what all events should aspire to be. The Halloween event had us tracking down ingredient cards across various maps, gathering materials to brew an elaborate concoction in a bubbling cauldron, and witnessing a hauntingly beautiful sky event.

I didn't think the Halloween 2023 event could be beaten at the time, but the Christmas event that followed certainly rivaled it with activities that included locating parts to assemble a snowball gun and hunting down adorable dancing snowmen around each map. Both events had many unique and engaging tasks beyond ghost hunting, and these quests pushed me to play in new ways.

Special event gameplay features used to be the main focus of the event. With Cursed Hollow and other recent events, the decorations take center stage while the minimal new gameplay that's present falls into the background.

Forest Minions are the perfect example of this. It doesn't make any sense to me that revealing them, which is really the only unique gameplay feature in the event, grants just two measly event points. Completing objectives is worth three points each, and correctly identifying the ghost gets you a whopping 10 points.

Why is it more rewarding to do tasks that aren't specific to the event than it is to interact with the special event feature? This scale places far too much emphasis on features that exist outside of Cursed Hollow when the emphasis should be on the Forest Minions. It's not even worth it to hunt them down if your goal is to farm event points quickly, which is disappointing because they're quite fun to interact with.

According to the official blog post for Cursed Hollow, the current plan seems to be to bring the same events back each year for Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. This idea is such a letdown, and I really hope the Phasmophobia team doesn't follow through with it.

The devs have been so stellar about listening to player feedback, and it's certainly evident with the improvements that were made for Cursed Hollow, including a rotating map schedule and a split between individual and community goals.

What they really need to focus on, though, is returning to making events like they used to be. Bring back unique concepts and special gameplay modifiers. Ditch the same themes each year. I wouldn't even necessarily mind if some events or event features repeated occasionally, if we at least got more of the devs' new ideas too.

Phasmophobia is such a special game for me. I've been playing it since it first launched back in 2020, and some of my fondest memories in it are playing the seasonal events with friends. I've participated in every event and seen what the team is capable of, so I just want to see events return to being a chance for their creativity to shine with exciting new features rather than having the exact same events run annually.

All I'm asking is that they bring back my tiny dancing snowmen friends, please, and give us more fresh takes on seasonal events rather than repeating the same ones. Phasmophobia events used to be so exciting and innovative, but over the past year, they've lost the spark that made them special.

Brick Life April update

At the beginning of the year, I was thoroughly drawn to Lego Fortnite's Odyssey, whereas Brick Life didn't quite click. Now, nearing the year's midpoint, the tables have turned as the April update breathes new energy into Brick Life and Odyssey quietly fades into the background.

Considering my initial hesitation toward Brick Life, a shift like this was genuinely unexpected. I had high hopes for this Grand Theft Auto-esque life simulator, but its world felt sparse, especially when compared to Odyssey's vast and immersive landscape. But the April update, also known as Get Cookin', seeks to change things for the better, adding new recipes, job promotions, and even fishing. Brick Life might finally be finding its flavor.

The upcoming fishing gameplay immediately caught my attention, particularly with its enchanting Unicorn Fish drops and a display tank to showcase all your hard-earned decorations. The cooking aspect, though, is where it truly shines. With a fresh set of new kitchen tools like an oven, stove, blender, and cutting board, there's a whole new world of culinary exploration. Each tool allows you to create dishes, whether you're experimenting with simple ingredients or refining recipes from a seasoned chef. This feature brings to mind the beloved cooking system from The Sims franchise, which I absolutely adore, and I can't wait to see how Brick Life adds its own flair to it.

The new mechanic that takes the cake is the arrival of job promotions at Durrr Burger and RoboRoll Sushi. At first, working these careers felt like a repetitive grind, with no real sense of progress. Thankfully, that won't be the case with Get Cookin', where you'll be assigned special tasks by your manager to earn your promotion. What can I say? I'm a sucker for working virtual jobs, even if it is just a game.

Given the immense care and detail poured into Brick Life, I was certain Odyssey would receive the same level of attention. But, alas, the April update feels a bit lacking. The only main attraction is the Golden King Oro's treasure, where players can uncover the Pirate King's Golden Chests for loot. While the treasure hunt holds some intrigue, it doesn't quite measure up to previous updates like the vibrant and action-packed Lost Isles. After that, searching for treasure chests feels somewhat underwhelming.

Players have noticed how Odyssey seems to have gotten the short end of the stick, commenting on the game's official Twitter/X account about the lack of new content. Some even point out that the community favors Odyssey more than Brick Life, so why not release more content for it? Personally, I'd love to see both games receive equal attention, though that might be wishful thinking.

There's still hope, however, with the upcoming Star Wars update—after all, an entire island is dedicated to it in Odyssey. We'll have to wait and see what the future holds, but for now, we can at least look forward to the new features coming to both Brick Life and Odyssey on April 22.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion logo with a knight behind it riding on a horse.

The latest worst-kept secret in gaming will be revealed tomorrow. It's time to head back to Cyrodiil, because The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is coming.

The leaks about this game have been aplenty over the past few weeks, both from leakers and from various retailers and websites that spilled the beans about the surprise-drop title. But all will be unveiled in a live stream tomorrow, Bethesda announced today. "All will be revealed," it teased.

Image via Bethesda

The retread of the 2006 Elder Scrolls title looks to be more of a full-fledged remake than a remaster, judging by screenshots that showed up online, with a gloriously rebuilt Tamriel for the current generation of consoles and PC.

Starting at 10am CT on April 22, a live stream from Bethesda will reveal all about the not-so-secret game, which is likely to become available to download and play not long after the showcase. In fact, rumors were pointing to the game shadow-dropping today at 11am CT, but it appears that was either untrue or plans have changed.

Rumors about the remaster go back months, but everything ramped up last week when its developer, Virtuous Games, accidentally posted imagery and information about the game on its website that was snagged before being taken down.

Regardless, returning to Oblivion with a beautiful new coat of paint and potential gameplay improvements is an exciting prospect for big fans of the game. Whereas, for people like me who didn't play the game when it launched almost two decades ago, this will be a new adventure altogether.

I'm not sure what's left to be revealed about the game that hasn't already leaked, but Elder Scrolls games will always make noise whenever they drop, so it should be a fun week for RPG fans everywhere, whether they played the original game or not.

Kaitlyn Dever as Abby in The Last of Us

Well, they did it. The scene that everyone has been waiting for in The Last of Us season two arrived last night, and so did a not-so-nostalgic trip back to 2020 for fans of the game watching the series.

One of the most shocking, polarizing scenes in gaming is now shocking and polarizing a new audience all over again for TV show watchers who were blindsided by the twist that is already the stuff of legend in gaming history. It's time to talk about it. We are obviously entering into spoiler discussion territory, so back out now while you can.

Screenshot by Destructoid via HBO/Max

Just like five years ago, when The Last of Us: Part II released, everyone hates Abby again. Welcome back! After teeing off on everyone's favorite mass-murdering dad figure, the social media reactions began flowing in from viewers who did not see it coming. I watched it with my girlfriend, for example, who had no idea what was about to happen, and she was visibly upset. Rightfully so, I'd say.

But unfortunately, the discourse this time around goes even further beyond a fan-favorite character dying, and that's saying a lot considering Abby's actress in the game, Laura Bailey, received death threats and harassment just for portraying her.

The show did a pretty good job of recreating the iconic scene from the game, considering Abby and her actions are piling up the same sort of reactions online to the surprise death, with some viewers threatening to stop watching the show entirely (similarly to how gamers previously wished they could just stop playing as Abby) and others just mad that "we're stuck with Ellie" now.

Many experiencing TLOU2's story for the first time have been shocked and appalled at Joel's brutal death, especially so early on in the season. And it felt that way in the game, too, with the first game's main character dying within the first hour or so. I was gutted by it at first, but eventually came around to enjoying it for the purposes of the story being told.

Abby in TLOU2
Image via PlayStation

The circumstances also feel pretty different this time around for other reasons, too. I wish the discussion about the episode was all about the writing and cinematography. But there's a general, loud dislike for Bella Ramsey's performance and casting as Ellie, wrapped up in the shock of the death scene, which will probably create even more toxicity in the fandom for the show than we experienced in the game where Ellie is pretty universally loved. And that's without even getting into the hatred that Abby has received as a character alone.

With the change in mediums, I am definitely anxious as to how the show will tell the stories of Ellie and Abby. I really don't think it will work as well as it did in the game, which won't help anything when it comes to the negativity surrounding the show.

In the TLOU2 game, the player experiences Ellie's journey with Dina to Seattle to chase down her own revenge, and then the perspective shifts, and players then take control of Abby to showcase her own side of the story and garner understanding (and for some, sympathy) for Joel's murderer. Many still haven't gotten past their hatred of Abby, even after playing as her for half of the game, and the show's viewers will most likely have many in the same camp.

The thing about this latest episode of the show is that it was a pretty damn phenomenal hour of TV, but that won't be what you read online, for the most part. The added wrinkle of the infected invasion of Jackson turned it into a Game of Thrones-like spectacle, allowing Tommy some time to shine as the hero, and Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), Pedro Pascal (Joel), and Bella Ramsey (Ellie) all put in excellent performances in several harrowing scenes.

Screenshot by Destructoid via HBO/Max

I'm not really sure it will matter at this point. Online chatter and social media culture feel more toxic than ever before, even just five years after the events were first portrayed in TLOU2. Season two of the show has a 96 percent critic rating and 53 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so some viewers are clearly upset (especially when compared to the 96 percent/87 percent split in season one). And it's only going to get worse later on in this season when certain new characters are introduced.

Take a beloved character who a lot of people feel was miscast, add in one of the most hated new characters in recent memory, and lay it all against the backdrop of increasingly toxic internet culture, and it feels like TLOU2 is headed on a crash course of negativity that won't end any time soon.

Alice wandering through a forest in a Realm in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

It's time to fall down the rabbit hole and explore a strange new land with Disney Dreamlight Valley's Alice in Wonderland update. The Wonderland Whimsy update has plenty of fresh content to explore, and to fully experience all of it, you may want to review the patch notes.

Update features aren't always super obvious and easy to find. Knowing all of the new key content before you jump in makes it easier to ensure you don't miss out on anything. Here are the patch notes for the Wonderland Whimsy update in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

The Wonderland Whimsy update mainly focuses on adding an Alice in Wonderland Realm, two new characters, an Uncrafting system, and a fresh Star Path event. There are plenty of other exciting features packed into this massive update, though, so here's a full breakdown.

Alice in Wonderland Realm

Venture into a whole new world of whimsy and mystery with the arrival of the Alice in Wonderland Realm. This unlockable region allows you to explore iconic locations around Wonderland, including Tulgey Wood forest, a mad tea party, and the Queen of Hearts' garden.

Alice and the Cheshire Cat

Straight from Wonderland, two new characters are joining the valley. Alice and the Cheshire Cat are unlockable companions complete with friendship quests and unique rewards. You can get Alice from the Realm following the same process as usual, which is tackling quests after unlocking this region, but the Cheshire Cat is a bit more complex. He's only obtainable after tackling some weekly mystery tasks.

Uncrafting

Befriending the Cheshire Cat will allow you to unlock the powerful new gameplay mechanic with the Uncrafting Machine. This device allows you to convert items you previously crafted back into the materials you used to make them for a small Dreamlight cost.

Star Wars items

For the first time ever, content from a galaxy far, far away is arriving in DDV with some Star Wars items. This includes a Jedi costume, a lightsaber accessory, an R2-D2 companion, and a house. All of these items are Premium Shop content, so if you don't want any Star Wars content in your valley, you can still easily avoid it.

Garden of Whimsy Star Path

The Garden of Whimsy Star Path event is packed with lots of fresh items you can unlock throughout this event. These items are inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Disney fairies, and spring, so there are plenty of vibrant and unique assets to unlock.

New and returning events

The Cheshire Cat Chaos event will debut later on in this update. Unlike most other features, it won't be available to tackle right away. Instead, it will be released sometime before the next update to give you something to do while you wait for more content featured in the 2025 roadmap to arrive. There's not much known about this event yet beyond it having some "playful rewards."

The Dreamlight Parks Fest event is also returning with this update. It first debuted in 2024 and focuses on finding various colored buttons around the valley to unlock special popcorn buckets and other prizes.

Improvements

The Wonderland Whimsy update has a collection of gameplay improvements to enhance your experience. All of the improvements included in this update are as follows.

  • Photo Mode has two new poses, new toggles that allow you to better customize your shot, sliders to adjust effects, and more.
  • Small and medium crafted chests can now be upgraded to unlock more storage.
  • There's now more flexibility for renovating your home thanks to new odd-number layouts.
  • Surface grids have been updated to allow for better cluttering.
  • The main menu has been refreshed with a new background image and news tiles.

Bug fixes

All updates also come with an array of bug fixes to address issues you may run into while exploring the valley. Here are all of the biggest fixes featured in this update.

  • An issue causing Scrooge McDuck's sign to be missing from Wishing Wells has been fixed.
  • Selecting the 10x6, 6x8, or 10x8 size for the central room in your home will no longer make the house inaccessible after exiting.
  • Fixed autofill for cooking being slower than intended since the Tales of Agrabah update with Jasmine and Aladdin.
  • Goofy's Stall will no longer disappear in The Bind biome.
  • Fixed some visual issues with Jasmine's Bubble Ponytail hair.
  • Cobra critters and companions will no longer have red eyes instead of their intended colors.
  • Several quest-specific problems were fixed.

We included all of the major update features here and some of the biggest bug fixes. There are lots of fixes in this update, though, so you may want to review the official Wonderland Whimsy patch notes if you're interested in learning more about them.

wuwa phrolova gameplay cutscene

New leaks have surfaced online that show the gameplay of two potential upcoming characters in Wuthering Waves, namely Phrolova and Lupa. The leaked gameplay videos show some of their attack animations, including their Resonance Liberation.

This article briefly covers the leaked gameplay videos of Phrolova and Lupa in Wuwa.

Phrolova and Lupa gameplay in Wuwa leaked

Phrolova gameplay

Most players likely already know Phrolova, given she is one of the major antagonists in Wuthering Waves. She is expected to be released in version 2.5 as a 5-star Havoc Resonator. A lot of players have been waiting for her debut. Luckily, a couple of recent leaks have shown some of Phrolova's potential gameplay.

According to the leaks shared by QQ, Phrolova appears to be a Rectifier user as she can be seen holding a red spider lily. The Lycoris also seems to be the main theme of her attack animations. Furthermore, much of her movements look as if she's a conductor in an orchestra as she controls the battle.

Image via Wuthering Waves - YouTube

When Phrolova uses her Resonance Liberation, we can see her bleeding from her right eye as she smiles while looking at the camera. Next, the camera zooms out, and she appears sitting on a large ring with red spider lily petals around it. For reference, the ring is similar to the one Phrolova uses during the What Yesterday Wept, Today Doth Sing quest in Rinascita.

It is also interesting that we got Phrolova's gameplay leaks before Cartethyia, who is expected for a Wuthering Waves 2.4 release.

Lupa gameplay

QQ also leaked Lupa's gameplay in WuWa. Lupa is a new character expected to be released in version 2.4 as a 5-star Fusion Resonator. Not much is known about her as she has yet to make an in-game appearance.

It is difficult to gather plenty of details from the leaked gameplay video since Lupa's attack animations are pretty fast. That said, we can briefly see her face when she casts her Resonance Liberation. This also reveals that Lupa has dark pink hair and wears a headband and ribbons. Furthermore, Lupa uses a large scythe during the battle.

Wuthering Waves does not have a scythe weapon type, so it is difficult to establish her actual weapon type. That said, we can assume that Lupa could be a Sword or Broadblade user, as we have seen multiple characters who change their weapons during the battle. For example, Jiyan is a Broadblade unit, but he switches to a spear after casting his ultimate. Additionally, Havoc Rover switches to a scythe during combat.

The Phrolova and Lupa gameplay videos are simply leaks, and the animation and abilities are subject to change with release.
