Everyone loves the trebuchet, the Hassar, and the stoic, impervious Teutonic Knight. But do you know who's the true hero of Age of Empires 2? The humble villager. The villager gathers your wood, farms your food, and digs up your stone and gold. Without them, you're totally helpless. The same is true in other RTS classics. Where would you be in Command and Conquer without the diligent Harvester? How far could you get in Homeworld if you didn't have a carrier and a cargo barge? This is what real strategy is about, the combination of both logistics and hubristics. With Foxhole, Siege Camp has already changed the game. Now, the developer is back with a gigantic new RTS and medieval MMO hybrid. This is Anvil Empires, and you'll be able to play it soon.

Will Dune Awakening have private servers? If you're after a truly anti-social experience, or only want to explore Arrakis' gorgeous desertscape with your closest compadres, we don't blame you. From Minecraft to Rust, to Funcom's other survival title, Conan Exiles, private servers have become a staple of the genre. But will Dune Awakening follow suit?

Dune Awakening takes an alternate approach not only to Frank Herbert's canon but also to the way it does its networking. While maps in survival games are typically tied to a single server, the upcoming PC game utilizes server meshing, hosting multiple dynamic map regions across servers to create one, unified experience. This makes things particularly tricky when it comes to leasing out private servers, and has given cause to doubt that Dune Awakening private servers will ever be a thing.

Once upon a time I wasn't actually a games journalist - crazy, I know. Before I started writing about esports and League of Legends, I wiled away the hours pouring over various history books, eventually earning myself two pretty snazzy history degrees. While a lot of my time was spent analysing WWII correspondence and weathered old Celtic stonework, one of my favorite things to study were alternative histories - novels that reimagined set-in-stone historical events. It's no surprise, then, that Mundfish's Atomic Heart quickly became one of my favorite shooters of all time. What would it look like if the Soviets had become the global superpower?

How do Elden Ring Nightreign Relics work? After each expedition, you're rewarded with Relics, special items that enhance your abilities. While you're likely to use any old Relic when you first begin the game, there are some powerful ones you should look out for that can completely transform the way you approach combat.

Elden Ring Nightreign doesn't allow you to select your equipment in the traditional soulslike game way, instead, you only have access to Relics which can be found at the Roundtable. You can sell any unwanted Relics to earn Murk, and then use that currency to improve your builds so you can breeze through all the Elden Ring Nightreign bosses on your expeditions.

What are the Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats? As is customary with all Rockstar Games titles, cheats are an integral and important part of RDR2. While you won't quite be spawning supercars and tanks here, there are plenty of old-timey whips to enjoy, alongside the usual suite of resource hacks we all know and love.

In the case of Red Dead Redemption 2, it's especially tempting to give yourself a leg up, given how long some parts of the game can feel. What are the best farming games on PC? There's something about the repetitive nature of tilling and planting a field. Witnessing the slow payoff of your crops growing makes you feel in tune with nature - even if you are still sitting in front of your computer screen. The best farming games on PC can vary a lot in genre and gameplay, but all eventually come down to getting your hands dirty.

Some of the best PC games that include farming are meant to be experienced alone and focus on the relationships between your protagonist and a cast of local characters. Others, like multiplayer games Staxel and Farm Together, are all about building something with friends and the fun of creating something together that's more than a prewritten story, so the genre is still full of variation. Whether they're cute and casual town games like Stardew Valley or more realistic business ventures like the Farming Simulator series, we've found a mix of the best farming games that should hit every quadrant of the agricultural games graph.

Nvidia's mega-expensive RTX Pro 6000 workstation GPU has been put to the test in Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Outlaws, and Assassin's Creed Mirage to see how this bulky GPU handles gaming despite not having any game-ready drivers.

One tech YouTuber, der8auer, has now put this workstation card to the test and found that it's more than capable for gaming, even if it might not be worth the $10,000 MSRP if this is your intent for it.

What are the best Western games on PC? It's not an easy decision to make. The Wild West was a time of lawlessness, striking gold, and perilous shootouts - no wonder it's the subject of many top cowboy games. We've donned our stetson and cowboy boots and set out on horseback to find you the best the American Frontier has to offer.

The best PC games based in the Wild West are inspired heavily by the cowboy media that has come before them, and it's fair to say that the humble Western is a cornerstone of American culture. The game studios that decide to take on the challenge of bringing this time period into our lives have a lot of pressure to get it right. Luckily, a number of them have absolutely nailed what being a cowboy is all about, and we've done the hard work of corralling the varmints right here, from open-world games to strategy games and even vampire games, so here's our pick of the best Western games.

Want to play Elden Ring Nightreign solo? Elden Ring is one of the greatest RPGs of all time, and while it features multiplayer elements, for the majority of people, it's largely a single-player game. Nightreign is entirely different from its predecessor, focusing mainly on co-operative play, but there is a way to play all on your own.

Elden Ring Nightreign has been designed as a co-op game experience first and foremost, so as we point out in our Nightreign review, we don't recommend picking this game up if you hope to play entirely on your own. Hitman developer Io Interactive's James Bond game has been reannounced with a proper title, 007 First Light. It also has some new key art, which confirms some important Facts: unlike Hitman's depthless master mimic Agent 47, James Bond has hair, formed into a neat side-parting by the passage of a narrowly escaped bullet. He also has ears, a high-collared leather jacket, and a gun.

Or what looks like a gun. He could be just doing a finger pistol to fake us out. I do not trust this particular James Bond. He is, after all, a cousin of Agent 47, that barcode-blazoned Fury peering out of every mirror. Io Interactive's James Bond doesn't even have a face right now. The face is hopefully forthcoming in the world premiere later this week during Summer Game Fest 2025, along with James Bond's legs and feet.

Elden Ring Nightreign's latest patch, version 1.01.1, makes the co-op RPG somewhat easier for single player Nightreigners. It boosts the number of runes awarded for Nightreign solo expeditions, and gives you one free automatic revive per boss battle. A great day indeed for people who wish the game's multiplayer were still more in-game covenant than feature.

By strange coincidence, the odds that I will actually play Nightreign have now gone up 1.011 times. I was pretty disenchanted by Nic's review, in which he summarised the game's Extended Fromverse battle royale bum-rushing as "a stripped-off part of FromSoft's creative identity with little appeal absent the whole". If they can significantly decrease the reliance on jolly cooperation I'll be much more interested - I had similar feelings about Helldivers 2 - though this still feels like a game I'm comfortable skipping.

It begins as every Japan-set dating sim worth its salt does — with a transfer student.

It's Aya's first day at the ominously-named 'Love-Love All-Girls High School', and they're (understandably) a little nervous. Shy and socially anxious, they hope they'll manage to make a friend or two. Turns out their classmates are eager - perhaps a little too eager - to get acquainted. Aya is set upon by a stampede of besotted young women, but Aya doesn't have romance on the brain themselves. "I Just Want To Be Single!" they yell. Cue chirpy acapella theme music.

I Just Want To Be Single!!: Season One, recently released on Steam in Early Access, is a game you'd be forgiven for overlooking on a Steam Store that today is packed with visual novels from Western indie devs. A handful carry a reverence and understanding of the medium (the excellent VA-11 HALL-A, for example), but many take a mocking, ironic approach, or exist primarily to titillate, such that fans have grown wary. Tsundere Studio's debut, I Just Want To Be Single!! stands out from this crowd.

Billed as 'aromantic, asexual, and nonbinary', I Just Want To Be Single!!'s player protagonist, Aya, is a reflection of its mononymous lead developer 'm.'. "I'm still figuring things out about myself and this game is an extension of that," m. tells me over Discord. "The story in this game is largely about finding yourself and who you want to become."

NieR Game Characters Appear as Pixel Art Sprites for Merchandise

Square Enix announced it will sell three different kinds of pixel art game merchandise with sprites of NieR, NieR: Automata, and NieR Reincarnation characters in Japan on August 30, 2025. These include a mug, a package of flake stickers, and two sets of rubber keychains. The US storefront isn't taking pre-orders for any of the items yet.

The set of flake stickers is the cheapest of the new items. It costs 1,100円 (~$8). There are 18 stickers in each package. All of the leading characters from each of the three NieR games appear, as well as side characters like 2B and 9S' Pods and Mama and Carrier who assist The Girl of Light Fio. Each sticker is under an inch tall at around 18mm.

The glass mug with the NieR pixel art sprites is second most expensive at 3,300円 (~$23). This doesn't feature every character in this collection on it. In the top row are NieR characters Kaine, Nier, and Emil, in that order. The middle row features NieR: Automata leads 9S, 2B, and A2. Finally, the third row puts Fio between Mama and Carrier. The back of the cup has Emil's head on it.

Finally, there are two sets of NieR pixel art keychains made of rubber and featuring sprites of the characters. Volume 1 features adult Nier, Kaine, and Emil from NieR, Pod 042 and Pod 153 from NieR: Automata, and Hina Akagi, Yuzuki Kurezome, and 10H from NieR Reincarnation. (I can't tell who the final character in this set is meant to be.) Volume 2 features young Nier and Yonah from NieR, Fio, Mama, and Carrier from NieR Reincarnation, and 2B, 9S, A2, and a machine lifeform from NieR: Automata. Each set consists of nine pieces in the box. Each box costs 6,435円 (~$45).

Here's how all the new NieR merchandise looks:

The NieR, NieR Automata, and NieR Reincarnation merchandise with characters from each game will debut in Japan on August 30, 2025. It's likely we'll see them worldwide after. NieR appeared on the PS3 and Xbox 360, then later on the PS4, Xbox, and PC one as NieR Replicant. NieR: Automata is on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and the anime is on Crunchyroll. NieR Reincarnation appeared on mobile devices, but is no longer available

Nintendo Claims Switch 2 Wholesale Price Article Is False

At the beginning of June 2025, Bloomberg shared an article suggesting some information on the wholesale price of the Switch 2 in Japan and gross profit margin, and Nintendo later took to social media to refute it. It stated the information in the article was incorrect and untrue. However, it didn't offer any clarification, as the notice also stated, "Nintendo does not disclose any information regarding business conditions with distribution and retail partners."

According to the Bloomberg report, unnamed sources claimed retailers would make 5% instead of 2%. This would mean the stores selling the Switch 2 would make more profit on the Nintendo console due to wholesale price option. In Japan, two models are going to be available. One is a variant that is only in Japanese and sold in Japan for 49,980円 (~$350), and the other is a multi-language option that costs 69,980円 (~$490) that is identical to the one being sold worldwide. The article claimed the move would potentially make selling the system more attractive, since that sort of support would make more money.

Here is the full statement from Nintendo regarding that report:

https://twitter.com/NintendoCoLtd/status/1929357469505245624

The Switch 2 is about to debut worldwide. Its launch is set for June 5, 2025 worldwide. The system will need a day-one update to function as expected. Also, worldwide there is a bundle option that includes both the system and a copy of Mario Kart World for $499. That means you get the game for less than usual, as outside that bundle it costs $79.99.

While there are 15 though, only five can be picked. These include some of the more unexpected casting choices, with folks like Hikakin and both Hololive and Nijisanji Vtubers showing up. The official page updated as well.

The video begins by noting how the selection process goes. At the outset, we see some of the people who will absolutely be there. These are Destin Billows, Alix La Fontaine, Briar Bloomhurst, Cade Shelby, Cedric Freud, Raika Shinohara, and Thierry Reyes. This starts with Hikakin's Winsor Compete. He's followed by Charis Benzaie, who is played by Michaela Wako Sato. QuizKnock's Takushi Izawa plays Maine Alsop, who shows up after that. Nijisanji Vtuber Rai Inami comes up after that, and he plays Dario Highton. Hololive's Ichijou Ririka continues the Vtuber introductions, as she plays Amelia Rainwalker. =Love singer Maika Sasaki appears as Marisol Cavallo at this point. Once that introduction is done, we see VSPO Vtuber Lisa Hanabusa as Meridia Althoff and Nijisanji Vtuber Sango Suo as Tai Richter. Once those two finish up, Fischer's YouTuber member Masai shows up as Davin Bullock. New Shift Up Game Project Witches Becomes Project Spirits

Shift Up updated its official site and, in so doing, shared additional information about its new game. While previously known as Project Witches, including in its 2025 IR presentation, it is now called Project Spirits. Artwork shared alongside the latest reveal also highlighted two of the possible characters we'll see in the title.

On the Shift Up games section of the site, the Project Spirits description again confirms this is a new IP. It also describes the theme as "Eastern Fantasy." Like Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, which is available on PCs and mobile devices, it will appear on multiple platforms. However, its genre is still unknown.

Here's the full official art for the new game. It depicts two characters standing back-to-back. The one with long, black hair  has two swords on scabbards on a belt around her waist. The other has long, pink hair in pigtails and glasses, and she's got a kunai around the pointer finger of her right hand.

The Korean version of the Shift Up site also features a new jobs section for Project Spirits. Eight positions are open for developers.

Project Spirits is in development. There is no release date and are no platforms for it yet.

Meet Tony Tony Chopper in Live-Action One Piece

During the May 2025 Tudum showcase, Netflix revealed the live-action version of Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece and confirmed his voice actor. He'll be played by Mikaela Hoover. There's also a brief trailer showing him off, during which the 2026 launch window for the second season appeared.

The teaser video began with Chopper trying to hide behind a column. Inaki Godoy, as Monkey D. Luffy, mentioned that we can see him and told him to come out. Chopper then stepped out and introduced himself, walking down the steps as he did. He noted that the second season of the live-action adaptation will come out in 2026. After he fell down the stairs, he called for a doctor. However, at that point he brought up that he is a physician. It doesn't note if any of his other forms will appear.

Here's the full One Piece live-action video from Netflix showing how Chopper will look in the series.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT0r90co_EA&ab_channel=Netflix

The character is also now part of a new daily life series called Chopper's. That shows up on social media sites like Instagram and shows him as he goes through daily life and ordinary situations in the modern world.

Many of Mikaela Hoover's performances prior to her role in One Piece involved supporting roles or one-time appearances in ongoing series. For example, she was in one episode of Duster, and she played a Humanimal named Floor in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

This marks the fifth English voice actor for Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece, with Brina Palencia perhaps being the most recent recognizable one. Palencia portrayed him since 2000.

The first season of the One Piece live-action adaptation is on Netflix. The anime is streaming on services like Crunchyroll and Netflix. Viz Media handles the manga outside Japan.

Review: Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Is a Return to Form

I'm so glad Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is actually good. Not just good, but great. I was genuinely terrified after Rune Factory 5, considering the execution and certain design decisions. But the differences are immediately visible, and getting invested in the adventure highlights how different and daring it is. There's so much to this new game, especially with the new village development options, and it finally feels like we have a worthy successor to Rune Factory 4

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma begins with a battle before the two protagonist options Kaguya and Subaru. The one you picked is riding on a white dragon, while the opposing one is on a blight-spreading black one. During the assault, our avatar falls off. They awake in the Spring Village with amnesia. However, even so, they know they are an Earth Dancer and, with the aid of a flying mascot creature that resembles a small Wooly with horns named Woolby, becomes the one person capable of reviving the lands' gods, restoring the flow of Runes, and saving everyone from the blight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yy8WP3jXTQ&ab_channel=MarvelousUSA

I don't want to say too much more, as I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. However, I really appreciated how the Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma story goes. Even though it involves the trademark amnesiac protagonist the series is known for, Marvelous tackled it in such a way that I appreciate the choices made and eventual reveals. It also got me more invested in the adventure, as I prioritized campaign quests over enjoying farming and socializing with the bachelors I might marry.

As in past Rune Factory games, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma involves a mixture of a farming life sim with romance paired with JRPG style gameplay and village management. When in a town, you can interact with characters to befriend and romance them, build up a village, and farm. In addition to bachelors and bachelorettes being folks you can talk to, add to your party for the action-RPG adventures, and marry, the certain important NPCs in each village can be befriended and brought along as an ally. In addition to giving gifts, you can level up your social skills in the skill tree to make options like talking about certain topics, getting meals together, and visiting specific locations means of building up affinity with folks. Farming involves creating the right types of terrain with Woolby, then placing it so you can grow crops suited to the season represented by that village.

As for the village development, I'm amazed at how compelling it is. Initially, it's rather freeform. You get a plot in each place for placing fields for planting crops, putting down buildings for businesses or new NPC villager homes, and decorations. However, these elements can improve your avatar's stats! You get experience for each village for things like number of crops grown or decorative scores! Villagers may be better suited for certain tasks, making swapping ones between cities advantageous to fill gaps in other locations. When villages level up, you can get more space, new recipes, and the freedom to build more. Not to mention, terraforming and designing things so they look pretty is fun. I found myself taking breaks from the main story because of it. Will this quest give me more stuff to shove on this barren plot of land? It will? Hook me up. I'll cause a mass extinction event for a new kind of lantern for the cafe theme that gives me 0.05% more RP.

However, I will say that sometimes it feels like that is the priority over farming. There are a decent selection of crops, and more open up as you explore areas and find rarer seeds. However the structure is such that farming and caring for monsters don't feel like the focus. Rather, it's often like something you set up and then allow visitors to handle while you take part in the JRPG elements in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma.

When outside of a town, we find the action-RPG battles and open world exploration elements in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. Upon heading into the field, there will be jizo statues to tidy up, holes you can roll onigiri into to satisfy a mysterious being's hunger, targets to hit with your bow and arrow, treasures to find, blight-striken spots to purify with certain Sacred Treasures, frog statues to visit for recipes, shrines to check in at for weapon recipes, hidden hot spring baths, and of course monsters to fight or eventually tame. Rather than actual dungeons, major encounters can involve heading to specific points in the world and dealing with bosses you find there. We gain access to a number of different weapon types, such as varying sorts of swords, and ranged options include a bow and arrow or talismans. The Sacred Treasures from gods involve in-battle uses, as well as making areas passable or accessible. And when it comes to boss fights, which are replayable, these larger foes require hitting weaknesses with the right weapons or Sacred Treasure elements to break their guard to do greater damage.

It's all usually satisfying, especially when it comes to unlocking access to new areas and getting new recipes. Though in the case of the Switch version, there are some issues. The blight involving a fire-spitting flower does experience some frame rate issues when viewed from a distance. There are frame rate problems for some enemies. A few technical hiccups come up in battle as well. I also did experience an occasional bug with the dual blades ultimate that involved my avatar spinning in place for a minute before things automatically corrected, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's patched. I do wish the light platforming wasn't so frustrating though, as there are some times when, even after getting the correct abilities, reaching spots to get last hidden secrets isn't much fun due to the struggle to find footholds and get there.

Heading up into the sky on the back of that white dragon discussed early also involves even more exploration opportunities. These floating islands can involve additional interactions and experiences. That can mean more recipes and side quests. Except in this case, I feel like it made my Earth Dancer character feel special. We can head up there, journeying to these unknown places. We can gain additional rewards because of it. It adds an additional sense of weight and depth to the nature of Azuma.

But what I really appreciated about the adventuring is both how well it ties in to the range of side quests we collect and the variations we can use when building up a party of characters. All Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma romance options and major NPC characters can be talked to and befriended. Upon hitting the first rank of friendship, they become potential allies. Each one is tied to a different archetype, such as attacker, buffer, debuffer, healer, or tank. So, for example, we initially have characters like the Attacker Murasame, the Tank Iroha, the Healer Mauro, and Iroha's little sister Suzu, who is a Supporter. I loved how the game encouraged us to talk to everyone, rewarding us with allies for doing so. And since the social options assign the same level of weight to certain interactions that cost us time in place of gifts, we can save those items to sell to maintain our villages.

Because yes, villages involve maintenance. The management portion involves ensuring healthy populations, money to support folks, and happiness. We're incentivized to care about them due to the quality of life elements. Typically, new seeds and items come from beating enemies, gathering in the wild, and crafting. Building up towns and placing shops, as well as leveling, means gaining access to more seeds we can use, recipes, and development options. Having villagers assigned to jobs like farming, herding monsters, logging, fishing, and mining gets us resources when we get busy with quests or don't feel like caring for animals and crops.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma restored my faith in the series, thanks to its ambitious sense of scope. There are a lot of tasks to balance in this life sim, farming game, and JRPG, and it feels like there's much more to do than in past Rune Factory entries. But the same time, it doesn't feel like each of them carries the same weight, as farming can take a backseat to socializing, exploring, and simulation elements. Village management feels more important than farming and caring for livestock, and heading out into the world or sky to explore yields some of more valuable materials and experiences. Rune Factory 4 is my favorite entry in the series, and I think Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is close to being its equal in some ways.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma will be available for the Switch, Switch 2, and PC on June 5, 2025.

A Minecart popcorn bucket for Mine Time! duty in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The Parks Fest event has an array of complex duties for you to complete in Disney Dreamlight Valley. One of the many tasks you'll encounter as you work through this event is Mine Time!, and it doesn't give you any information about how to complete it.

The title of this duty is pretty misleading and can easily lead to you tackling the wrong task. There's only one way to get this one done, so here's how to complete Mine Time! in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to complete the Mine Time! duty in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The MIne Time! duty in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

To complete the Mine Time! duty in DDV, you need to craft one Mine Cart Popcorn Bucket. The name of this task can be a bit misleading, as you might expect you need to tackle some mining around the valley to get it done. Instead, this hint is actually a reference to the item you need to make.

In Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the dwarves regularly venture into the mines and use a minecart to get around. For this duty, you need to make a popcorn bucket version of their minecart. No actual mining of rock nodes or Gems is necessary to get this task done.

How to craft Mine Cart Popcorn Bucket in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To make the Mine Cart Popcorn Bucket, you need to gather plenty of Parks Fest Buttons. There are four specific color variants you need to make this item, including Green Buttons, Blue Buttons, Red Buttons, and Purple Buttons. Here's how many you need of each type and how to earn them.

Button Amount How to get
Green Button 40 Earned by finishing daily and weekly Parks Fest event quests.
Blue Button 15 Can be fished out of white bubble spots around the Peaceful Meadow and Dazzle Beach biomes as long as Park Fest is active.
Red Button 10 Can be found anywhere in the wild around the valley near both villagers' and players' homes. You can find this resource in any classic biome, including the Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, Dazzle Beach, Glade of Trust, Forest of Valor, Sunlit Plateau, Frosted Heights, and Forgotten Lands.
Purple Button Five Can be crafted using one Blue Button, two Red Buttons, and 100 Dreamlight.

Like all popcorn buckets, this one requires a lot of resources. If you don't want to gather all of the items required, you might consider using the Uncrafting Station to disassemble other buckets so you can make this one.

To use this machine, you need to unlock the Cheshire Cat and complete his friendship level seven The Uncrafting Station quest. It takes a while to get both done, but it might be worth it if you aren't up for gathering the required Buttons.

How to unlock Mine Cart Popcorn Bucket in Disney Dreamlight Valley

You can unlock the crafting recipe for the Mine Cart Popcorn Bucket by completing Scrooge McDuck's mining-related event quests. He has four event quests for you to work through, all of which task you with mining specific minerals around the valley.

  • Dreamlight Parks Fest: Dig It

    • Hang out with Scrooge McDuck and mine 10 Gems.

  • Dreamlight Parks Fest: Ovals

    • Hang out with Scrooge McDuck and mine five oval-shaped Gems.

  • Dreamlight Parks Fest: Rectangles

    • Hang out with Scrooge McDuck and mine five rectangular-shaped Gems.

  • Dreamlight Parks Fest: Shinies

    • Hang out with Scrooge McDuck and mine three shiny Gems.

He'll have additional quests in this series available every two days, and you have to tackle all of them to unlock the recipe for making this item.

Completing the Mine Time! duty for the Parks Fest event unlocks two rewards, which are the Mine Cart Popcorn Bucket furniture item and the Mine Cart Handheld Popcorn Bucket accessory item. Visually, both items look identical, but they can be used in two different ways.

The furniture version of this item can be placed anywhere you can decorate, including the valley and all homes you own. The accessory variant can be equipped on all outfits and carried around as you traverse through the valley.

There are plenty of other popcorn buckets you can make throughout this event. If you're interested in collecting all of them, consider working on Oh, BotherCraftily Ever AfterDestination: Imagination, A Shining Icon, and Stitch-y Situation next.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet take 50 hours to finish

Game Freak and Nintendo have finally released a short trailer showing Pokémon Scarlet and Violet running on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it looks like an entirely different game.

The 30-second trailer was put on the Nintendo Today app this morning and follows a few screenshots released by Game Freak a few weeks ago that showed a bunch of new Pokémon. Giving trainers a first look at the Paldea region running on the Switch 2, following a Switch 2 day one update set to release on June 5.

https://twitter.com/SerebiiNet/status/1929556160597667952

For anyone who has played the Nintendo Switch versions of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the difference is astounding when you watch the trailer and then go to those areas to see how the game runs right now. It seems like the game is running at 60 FPS with very little frame drops, and the amount of Pokémon spawning in some areas is completely staggering.

Casseroya Lake was the part that really showcased just how better the game runs on Switch 2. Anyone who goes to that area in the Switch version knows the game chugs when spawning in Pokémon and is an overhaul nightmare to roam around. So, seeing the 20+ Pokémon and the character freely going around the area with little drops has sold me on this update. Though it also makes me a little salty that this isn't how the game runs normally.

A part of me still wants to see it to believe it, and when I get time from playing all the new games coming out this week, I feel I'll need to jump back in and give this update a test drive. Especially when Shiny hunting for some Pokémon that were a nightmare to try and find. The trailer also doesn't show off any of the DLC areas, so I'm curious what those also look like.

Either way, it looks like a step in the right direction and looks to finally make the games play better than ever before. Bring on the new system!

Fairy House in The Sims 4

There are many different occults you can play as in The Sims 4, but the big one that has been missing since launch is Fairies. After years of waiting, Fairies have officially been confirmed and are expected to be arriving fairly soon with a new pack release in the coming months.

During the Hotties Play The Sims livestream that aired on May 30, a short teaser featuring a tiny house was shared right near the end of the broadcast. It's a pretty small moment, but the implications are massive when combined with all of the other teasers the Sims team has been dropping.

Fairy house teaser in The Sims 4
Screenshot by Destructoid

In The Sims 3: Supernatural, all Fairies can freely use fairy houses to throw parties, sleep, eat, and take care of just about any other needs they have. These houses are all miniature-sized and perched on top of tree logs. They look pretty much identical to the one featured in the short teaser for The Sims 4, and the clip also highlights the return of the house party feature as music is coming from inside while the house shakes around just like it did in The Sims 3.

We're due for a new pack sometime soon since the most recent one, which was Businesses & Hobbies, launched on March 6. It's unknown whether we'll be getting an expansion pack, game pack, or stuff pack next, though. Most occults have dedicated game packs, like Vampires and Werewolves, but Ghosts arrived as part of Life & Death, so it'll likely be one of these two pack types.

In addition to the video teaser, there's also a website that's receiving consistent updates with new teasers for the upcoming Fairy-related pack. This website is called Something is growing, and so far it features a green landscape with a gnome, some fruits, and a quaint cottage.

Something is growing Sims website
Screenshot by Destructoid

This website also mentions getting lost in "natural living" and has a description that reads, "You wake up under the stars and see other Sims meeting their needs outdoors without beds or plumbing. You're hungry, but you spot some delicious-looking mushrooms by a tree. Looks like you'll sustain yourself just fine."

If you click over to the second page of the website, a town named Innisgreen is revealed. This is expected to be the name of the world in the upcoming pack. This page mentions living in "harmony with nature" and "a grove where nature and civilization blend together" with "an enchanting magical forest."

So far, these are the only official details for the upcoming pack. But there are also several leaks providing some potential extra information about what the next pack will look like. None of this has been confirmed by The Sims team, so take all of it with a grain of salt.

Back on May 20, Instant Gaming posted a leak for a pack called Enchanted by Nature. This potential leak has since been removed, but this website also leaked past packs like For Rent and Life & Death ahead of their release, so they do have a solid track record so far.

Innisgreen in the sims 4
Screenshot by Destructoid

This leak includes some key pack details, and Fairies are by far the biggest one. The description also mentions a Natural Living skill, Ailments, Apothecary, and Naturopathy. This alleged pack has a strong focus on nature and surviving anywhere in the world with only what's around you.

According to the pack leak, Fairies can lean into being mischievous and grant Sims Ailments or choose to focus on nature and build gardening-related abilities. There are no other details about what powers Fairies have, but it sounds like they'll probably have a skill tree similar to the one most occults have.

The teaser that aired during the livestream also revealed that a trailer is scheduled for June 12, so we'll learn much more about this upcoming release then.

Elden Ring Nightreign promotional image

Every game has occasional bugs and crashing issues that can impact your gameplay. Elden Ring Nightreign is no exception, with singleplayer being notoriously difficult, some skills not functioning the way they're intended to, and other minor bugs that FromSoftware has since patched in update 1.01.1.

Here's everything that's arrived during Elden Ring Nightreign update 1.01.1.

Elden Ring Nightreign 1.01.1 update patch notes

Elden Ring Nightreign update 1.01.1 comes with numerous bug fixes and balance changes, particularly to solo expeditions, to make them easier.

Singleplayer changes

One of the highlights of Elden Ring Nightreign's 1.01.1 patch notes is two singleplayer balance changes that make the experience slightly easier. The first is FromSoftware officially adding automatic revival upon defeat to solo expeditions, allowing you to revive once per night during a boss battle. You'll also gain more runes in singleplayer mode, making it much easier to raise your stats and unlock new weapons.

Balance changes

Alongside changes specific to singleplayer mode, FromSoftware has also introduced two major general balance changes. The first is increasing the number of high-rarity relics you can obtain as rewards from reaching day three during your expeditions. The odds of obtaining high-rarity relics from Scenic Flat stones bought at the Small Jar Bazaar have also increased.

While the snippets above summarize singleplayer and balance changes introduced in Elden Ring Nightreign's 1.01.1 update, FromSoftware has also patched multiple bugs, particularly those involving character skills, Ultimate Art, and enemy-related attacks. Some fixes are also exclusive to Steam to improve climbing, and some graphical fixes.

Here's the complete list of bug fixes:

  • Adjusted camera behavior when activating the Guardian's Ultimate Art, "Wings of Salvation."
  • Fixed a bug in the Duchess's Character Skill "Restage" where Status Ailments would not trigger when built up from other players' attacks.
  • Fixed a bug where some attacks of the Raider with Greataxe and Great Hammer weapon types had higher damage than intended.
  • Fixed a bug where some "Those Who Live in Death " enemies would revive when defeated with the "Sacred Blade" skill.
  • Fixed a bug where the "Bleeding" Status Ailment would not build up when the Skill "Bloody Slash" hit an enemy.
  • Fixed a bug where the "Ghostflame Ignition" attack would not occur under certain circumstances.
  • Fixed a bug where the status ailment "Frostbite" would not build up when the light wave released by a strong attack hit an enemy while the "Moonlight Greatsword" skill was active.
  • Fixed a bug where the speed of arrows fired with the "Mighty Shot" and "Enchanted Shot" skills was slower than expected.
  • Fixed a bug where the attack range of the magic spell "Rock Sling" was longer than expected when using it with a staff equipped in the left hand.
  • Fixed a bug where the effect of reducing the maximum HP of enemies when the incantation "Black Blade" hit them was not activated.
  • Fixed a bug where the Passive Effect "Successive Attacks Negate Damage"  would stack when successive attacks were made while the Effect was active.
  • Fixed a bug where some Passive Effects were not displaying their effects at the correct values.
  • Fixed a bug where the Relic Special Effect "[Guardian] Become the target of enemy aggression when ability is activated" would not activate under certain situations.
  • Fixed a bug where certain effects were not being applied to Relics obtained from Expedition Rewards or purchased from the Small Jar Bazaar.
  • Fixed a bug where items that could be obtained upon completing a Remembrance in the Remembrance world, when the scenario conditions were met, could not be obtained when changing characters and concluding a Remembrance.
  • Fixed bugs in the behavior and specifications of certain attacks and actions of specific enemies.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to become unstable under certain conditions during battles with specific enemies.
  • Fixed a bug in the graphics rendering during battles with specific enemies.
  • Fixed some incorrect information in the staff credits.
  • Fixed some text.
  • Fixed a bug where some sound effects were not playing correctly.
  • Fixed a bug where the "Exit Remembrance" effect was not displayed during a "Wylder" Remembrance on some platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where the HUD was not displayed on some platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where the game would crash under certain circumstances on some platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where Expeditions and reconnecting to sessions would fail under certain circumstances on some platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where background music would not play properly under certain circumstances on some platforms.

We also got a few Steam-only graphics changes and Climb Up action fixes. Steam's version of 1.01.1 patches a bug where some graphics weren't rendering properly if you set your quality settings to Low. Climb-up also occasionally didn't work if you were using keyboard and mouse or a gamepad, which 1.01.1 has since fixed.

An Assault Class trooper in Star Wars Battlefront 2.

One of the game's most beginner-friendly picks, together with Sentinel, the Assault class is perfect for those looking to dive into the flanks for key eliminations while staying mobile in Star Wars Battlefront 2.

But as you might have realized from the second you entered your first multiplayer match, equipping the right cards can make a planet-sized difference. Here are the best assault cards and loadouts to use in Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 2025.

Marksman

The Marksman card.

The first card in our shortlist, Marksman, allows you to reset your weapon's heat gauge following each headshot elimination to stay in the fight for way longer. Scoring a headshot kill also decreases your gun's heat production by 40% (on Epic) until you are killed or overheat. You can unlock Marksman after reaching Assault level 10.

Assault Training

The Assault Training card.

One of the first unlockable cards for the class, Assault Training adds a huge amount of survivability to your build by allowing you to get up to 40 health (on Epic) per kill performed. This, when paired with other elimination-focused cards such as Recharge Vanguard, allows you to go all out without reservations for as long as you remain lethal. Assault Training can be unlocked after reaching Assault level 2.

Improved Thermal Detonator

The Improved Thermal Detonator card in Battlefront 2.

A favorite among the game's community, Improved Thermal Detonator boosts the effectiveness of your trusty grenade via an increase in blast radius and a cooldown decrease. I know this might seem simple, but in a game where taking hold of points is key and corridors are common, a large explosion can be all you need sometimes. Improved Thermal Detonator can be unlocked on level 2.

Recharge Vanguard

The Recharge Vanguard card.

A must if you are looking to apply a run and gun playstyle, Recharge Vanguard allows you to get the most from your shotgun, with each elimination resetting the cooldown of all of your abilities. This sees the card become a premier pick in any ability-focused build. For example, pairing it with Toughen Up and the mentioned Improved Thermal Detonator will enable you to heal non-stop while raising hell on the battlefield. You can unlock Recharge Vanguard on Assault level 10.

Toughen Up

Toughen Up, the best card for the Assault class in Battlefront 2

Have you ever come face to face with an enemy that does not seem to die? Well, Toughen Up, aka the best Assault card in BF2, is most likely the reason for it via its ability to trigger continuous health regen at the press of a button. There's not much else to say here, as what can be better than pretty much coming back to life? You can unlock the ability card after reaching Assault level 20.

The best Assault loadouts in Battlefront 2

Now that you know which cards to invest in, the best Assault loadouts in Battlefront 2 will always rely on Toughen Up as its foundation. Weapon-wise, I recommend going with the A280 or the CR-2. Both weapons are widely regarded as the class's best via their stability, semi/full-auto style, and ability to excel in long and close-range encounters, respectively. Here are the best card and mod combinations for each weapon:

  • Best A280 loadout

    • Cards: Toughen Up, Assault Training, and Recharge Vanguard / Improved Thermal Detonator / Bounty Hunter
    • Mods: Improved Cooling and Improved Range

  • Best CR-2 loadout

    • Cards: Toughen Up, Assault Training, and Marksman / Improved Thermal Detonator / Bounty Hunter
    • Mods: Reduced Recoil. Night Vision (if the map demands it).

The sealed crate featuring the A280 can be acquired as a reward by killing 50 players with the Assault class. The CR-2 can then be acquired after scoring 200. To reach the milestones fast, we recommend taking on Cooperative Missions.

A ghost trapped in a summoning circle in front of a flaming cross in Phasmophobia

If you think you've mastered the art of ghost hunting in Phasmophobia, you may be ready to put your skills to the test. Weekly challenge modes are a great way to see how good you are.

These special trials modify how the game works, usually with rules that make the experience a lot harder. Successfully finishing the challenge gets you plenty of XP and cash, so it's well worth the effort. Here's the weekly challenge in Phasmophobia and everything you need to know to beat it.

Phasmophobia weekly challenge mode (June 1 to 8)

Glow in the Dark challenge in Phasmophobia
Screenshot by Destructoid

From June 1 to 8, the weekly challenge is Glow in the Dark in Phasmophobia. In this challenge, you're missing most equipment that grants light, which means you're pretty much investigating entirely in the dark. A Tier II UV Light is your only light source, and it's barely anything.

How to complete the weekly challenge in Phasmophobia

To finish the weekly challenge mode in Phasmophobia, you need to correctly identify the ghost present on the featured map three times. The specific changes present in each trial mode vary, but your goal is always the same.

All Glow in the Dark weekly challenge modifiers in Phasmophobia

The Hide and Seek: Extreme challenge mode has several specific rules that modify the way the contract functions. Here are all the key details you need to know about this trial.

  • Map: 42 Edgefield Road
  • Starting sanity: 100 percent
  • Setup time: None
  • Fuse box state: Broken
  • Cursed Possession: Random
  • Equipment: Mostly Tier I items and a single Tier II item.

    • Tier I: Head Gear, Ghost Writing Books, Salt, Photo Cameras, D.O.T.S. Projectors, Thermometers, Sound Sensors, Spirit Boxes, EMF Readers, Parabolic Microphones, Crucifixes, Igniters, Incense, and Sanity Medication.
    • Tier II: UV Lights

  • Missing Equipment: Flashlights, Firelights, Motion Sensors, Video Cameras, and Tripods.

Phasmophobia Glow in the Dark weekly challenge mode tips

The Glow in the Dark challenge is one of the trickier ones you can attempt in Phasmophobia, so here are some of the best tips to help you get it done.

  • Learn 42 Edgefield Road's layout. You're basically stumbling around blind in this trial, so if you aren't familiar with this location, it's nearly impossible to get around. Before attempting this challenge, load a custom version of the game with the friendly ghost option turned on to freely explore this map and learn everything there is to know about it.
  • Bring all your equipment to the front door. Before you start investigating, bring all of the items you need to the front door. You don't have a setup time, so the ghost can technically come after you as soon as you set foot inside. If you prepare a bit by gathering the items you need near the front door, you'll save time and be more likely to succeed.
  • Use a UV Light to get around. You won't get much light at all, but it's this or nothing, so be sure to use this item as you try to explore the house.
  • Play with friends. Your odds of success are a lot better with allies helping you through this tricky trial. With additional ghost hunters at your side, you can explore the map more quickly, work together to gather evidence, and continue the investigation even if you perish.
  • Don't give up. Since all equipment is provided to you for free, there's nothing to lose in this challenge. Because of this, you can keep trying without worrying about losing money or equipment. Give each contract your all and keep at it until you get it done.

When does the challenge mode change in Phasmophobia?

The challenge mode changes every Monday at 12am UTC, which translates to 7pm CT every Sunday. You have a full week to tackle each challenge mode when it's available. All challenge modes return regularly since they're on a rotating schedule, so if you don't get to finish one, you can always try it again in the future.

Next weekly challenge mode in Phasmophobia

The next weekly challenge mode, which will run from June 8 to 15, is Deja Vu. This trial begins as soon as the featured one for this week, which is Glow in the Dark, ends.

There are 26 challenge modes in Phasmophobia. A different one is available to complete each week, and the challenge order stays exactly the same, so it's easy to know which one is coming next. Here are all of the challenges you may face in Phasmophobia.

A player wearing a golden fairy outfit standing by oval Gems in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To earn all of the available prizes in the Parks Fest event, you have to navigate through many complex quests in Disney Dreamlight Valley. One of the trickier ones you'll come across is Scrooge McDuck's Dreamlight Parks Fest: Ovals task.

You need to acquire specific assets to get this task done, and many minerals that should count for it don't, so figuring out what needs to be done can be tricky. Here's how to complete Dreamlight Parks Fest: Ovals in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Dreamlight Parks Fest: Ovals quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Mining with Scrooge McDuck in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

To finish the Dreamlight Parks Fest: Ovals quest, you need to mine a total of five oval-shaped minerals from around the valley. Mining is simple enough, but finding all of the right items that fit this category is a whole lot trickier. Here's a breakdown of everything you need to know to get this task done.

  • Hang out with Scrooge McDuck. Only minerals mined with him at your side count for this task, so make sure you track him down and ask him to help you out before starting this task.
  • Stay in the main valley. DLC minerals are excluded from this task, so don't travel anywhere outside of Dreamlight Valley to get this task done.
  • Equip your Royal Pickaxe and go mining. Keep mining rock nodes until you acquire all five of the required oval-shaped minerals.
  • Consider using Miracle Pickaxe Polish or Even More Miraculous Pickaxe Polish. You can craft and use either potion to make this quest a lot easier. With either one active, you'll recover extra minerals while mining, which means you'll be able to find five oval-shaped minerals much faster than usual.

All oval-shaped minerals in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Talking with Scrooge McDuck about mining oval Gems in disney dreamlight valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

There are five Gems that count as oval-shaped minerals for the purposes of Scrooge McDuck's Dreamlight Parks Fest: Ovals quest in the Dreamlight Parks Fest event. These Gems are different from the oval ones required for the mine for oval Gems duty on the Garden of Whismy Star Path event, so finding the right ones can be a bit tricky.

Gem Where to find
Aquamarine (+Shiny Aquamarine) Can be mined from around Dazzle Beach and the Forest of Valor.
Citrine (+Shiny Citrine) Can be mined from around the Sunlit Plateau and Glade of Trust.
Garnet (+Shiny Garnet) Can be mined from around the Plaza and Peaceful Meadow areas. If you also have the A Rift in Time DLC, it can also be found around The Wastes and The Plains areas in the Glittering Dunes biome.
Peridot (+Shiny Peridot) Can be mined from around the Dazzle Beach and Peaceful Meadow areas. If you have the A Rift in Time DLC, it also spawns around The Promenade and The Grasslands in the Wild Tangle biome.
Tourmaline (+Shiny Tourmaline) Can be mined from around the Frosted Heights and Sunlit Plateau regions.

Although Blue Zircon, Shiny Blue Zircon, Alexandrite, and Shiny Alexandrite are the exact same shape as all of the other Gems that count, they don't track for this quest. Items that are typically classified as minerals outside of DDV, like iron and zinc, don't count for this task either, so avoid mining assets like Iron Ore or Zinc. This quest is a very specific one, so stick to only hunting for the five Gems that count to get it done.

When you're done with this quest, there are plenty of other tasks you can work on next for the Parks Fest event. Some good ones to work on are Mine Time!, Mirabel's Dreamlight Parks Fest: Critter Snaps quest, Squirrel!, and A Shining Icon.

gigantamax cinderace

Niantic recently allowed trainers across Pokémon Go to finally take part in Remote Max Battles, giving trainers a chance to take on Gigantamax raids without the need to find 20+ local trainers for a chance at beating and catching these elusive Pokémon.

The experience has been lacklustre, though, with trainers fuming about the current Remote Raid system, even calling for a complete rework to make Remote Raids more appealing and stop a lot of trainers from dropping out of these risky raids.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/1l0yk38/hosting_gmax_raids_needs_a_serious_rework/

When you enter a Remote Raid, you use a Remote Raid Pass the moment you go into a battle, and at the end of the battle, the game takes 800 Max Particles from your inventory for a successful bout. This has led to a lot of trainers calling for one major change to reduce some of the current risks that come with Remote Gigantamax Max Battles—and we are entirely onboard with the idea.

"Only one change is actually needed." A Redditor said on a recent thread. "Don't consume the Remote Pass until the battle is won. Bam, it's solved." The reply was then swarmed with other trainers agreeing, saying it really is "that simple" to make raids far more appealing and less of a risk, as then you aren't losing anything for trainers dipping or failing something that requires a lot of micromanagement to invite 20 trainers at a time.

Others have called for an extension to the number of trainers you can invite to Remote Gmax raids, or allow you to invite all 20 at once instead of groups of ten over a set period of time. After my own experience with so many failed Rillaboom Gmax raids this past weekend, I have to agree, as so many failed because clown trainers left on the one-second mark to leave other trainers for dead. It only takes a handful of trolls doing this, or not having a strong enough team for the raids, to ruin it for everyone.

Ditchers or inexperienced players who leave can make or break a Gmax Remote Raid. I had a raid fail by the smallest of margins. If those trainers had turned up and done some minor chip damage or cheered on the other teams, we might have won far more raids than we lost.

I really do hope Niantic makes some changes to the format soon and actually listens to trainers' feedback. It's sorely needed right now.
