AMD is reportedly working on another big leap in gaming GPU performance with its next-gen AMD Radeon architecture, according to the latest leak. After playing a big game of catch-up with its latest RDNA 4 GPUs, such as the Radeon RX 9070 XT, the company's next generation of graphics cards will apparently make more big strides with ray tracing, an area where AMD has traditionally lagged behind Nvidia, while also significantly improving rendering performance.

As we found in our AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT review, the company's current RDNA 4 architecture is now properly competitive with Nvidia's latest offerings, with superb performance across the board, not to mention a decent helping of VRAM. However, there are still some areas where the latest AMD GPUs struggle, such as path tracing, which is an advanced and highly demanding form of ray tracing, and it looks as though the company is focusing on improving its ray tracing performance even further.

Now is a great time to pick up an awesome gaming CPU for a generous price, as Amazon has slashed over $90 off the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D MSRP, meaning you can pick one up for just $358.59. The price of this CPU peaked at a whopping $523.99 earlier this year, after its successor, the 9800X3D, arrived in short supply. This new price is the cheapest we've seen for the whole of 2025 so far, though, making for an affordable upgrade to a superb CPU.

That's a saving of $113.43 over the new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, and the 7800X3D still offers many of the same features as the new chip, with fantastic performance. In fact, this is the CPU we use to benchmark all the GPUs listed on our best graphics card buying guide. As you can see in our AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D review, this CPU's massive 64MB helping of 3D V-cache enables it to shoot past any standard CPU in most game tests, and it still has a strong place on our best gaming CPU buying guide.

It was announced on the day of the Wolf Moon, and rather fittingly follows the rise of a powerful clan of vampires in an alternative 14th century.

Set during a time of devastation, this vampire game is a supernatural slant on the events of the plague. Vampires lurk in the darkness, biding their time until the Black Death takes hold of the land, when they seize the opportunity to strike for control while the humans are weak. The Drifter's titular speaks in the sort of rough Aussie accent that, alongside his first person, present tense commentary ("I grab the tarp"), lends this point 'n click adventure the feeling of being a half-memory, relayed over dive bar drinks, possibly to a reluctant server. It's dreamlike, isolated, at least until it erupts into pockets of panic.

A "fast-paced point 'n click" is how the Steam page describes it. Sounds like a misnomer, but while there's no time limits as far as I could tell, The Drifter's scenario design and pacing is all about tension, danger, and desperate puzzles that feel grounded in the present moment. And, actually, I get the sense that the server's pretty into the story by this point.

New Indie Vtuber Sameko Saba Debuts This Week

The social media account for a mysterious new indie Vtuber going by the name of Sameko Saba announced she'll make her debut on June 28, 2025. A new, animated teaser video hinted at the character's design and various motifs surrounding her. There's a nautical, fish theme for the performer.

Here's the tweet with a video that hints at the performer's character design. The character seems to have long, blond hair in pigtails, with blue streaks at the front. One strand is pulled off to the side in a smaller side ponytail. She has light blue fingernail polish. She also seems to have cat ears and a fish tail. The final shot of her silhouette suggests a crab will appear as her mascot. It also shows that the character is rather short, due to her height compared to the doorframe.

https://twitter.com/samekosaba/status/1936897769995899166

The Sameko Saba teases first started in the middle of May 2025. A YouTube video called "saba / saba" showed up, then a tweet with a fish emoji that said, "Yoho!"

Here's that first teaser:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3cryiz8nJo

That was followed by an animation of a beach with a lighthouse showed up at the start of June 2025. It again suggested a nautical theme for the performer.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/bRNtoxbAo_s

A number of other notable indie Vtubers already started talking about Sameko Saba ahead of her debut. One of them is Dooby, who brought up the newcomer during a May 2025 DOOM stream. She's also an indie performer who debuted back on October 19, 2024, and she's appeared alongside Dokibird, Henya the Genius, Nimi Nightmare, and Mint Fantome. More recently, Nimi also mentioned Saba's debut at the start of her Elden Ring stream on June 22, 2025. Other indies like Shylily also commented on the latest reveal.

Review: Death Stranding 2 Walks a Similar Path

I'm of two minds about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. In terms of gameplay, there are many ways in which I feel Kojima Productions built upon the foundation of the original to make connecting a country and carrying out courier missions in a potentially hazardous environment even more interesting. I can't wait to take my time to play around in that sandbox more. At the same time, I feel like the threat of the original and fear of fighting is mitigated during much of the campaign. Worse, even though I loved going on these new deliveries, I think the narrative can falter in ways that undoes some character development from the original and offers a "second verse, same as the first" approach to storytelling. It's shocking to see such a "safe" sequel follow an unconventional and orthodox game.

Editor's Note: There are no Death Stranding 2: On the Beach spoilers below. The writer beat the game.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach picks up with Sam and Lou living as an actual family. They found a place for themselves. They're being adorable. That is, until Fragile comes in with an offer Sam can't refuse. If he goes to Deadman's lab in Mexico to connect places to the Chiral Network and deal with a major BT threatening the area, it would guarantee that him and his daughter can live in peace. She'll mind the baby. Go out and do what he does best. So he does! Though, as you probably guessed from the trailers, it doesn't stop there. Fragile turns up again with her new DHV Magellan and a task to go through the Mexican Plate Gate to Australia with her Drawbridge organization. They'll ride tar currents and connect that country to the Chiral Network.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90gpqJE-tLU

I adored the story Kojima Productions told in Death Stranding. I feel like we saw real development for heroes and antagonists alike. Even if people didn't appear frequently, they felt well realized and like we got to know them. As a whole, it felt poignant and fresh. The journey ended up being satisfying! I loved the lore! Yet most of the time, the narrative in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach let me down. The initial hours seemed fantastic. I loved the idea of Fragile approaching Sam for this "one last job," the journey across parts of Mexico felt satisfying, and all of the development in those moments felt completely in-character for everyone. It made sense! This continued into the first leg of the journey to Australia.

However, I felt like things fell apart in so many ways after that. I'm going to be intentionally vague here, for the sake of avoiding spoilers. I loved the new members of the cast, such as Charlie, Rainy, and Tarman, but felt they were underutilized. Given how closely Sam worked with them, I suppose I expected more opportunities to get to know folks like Tomorrow. In the case of some other characters, it felt like Kojima Productions wiped away progress or established details in Death Stranding for the sake of either putting them close to square one or in a position where they "needed" to be for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. I thought Morgana telling Joker to constantly head to bed in Persona 5 felt frustrating, but Dollman telling me to take a shower whenever I talk to him is even more annoying. The story seemed much more predictable than the original too! This isn't to say I didn't have moments I loved. There are some supremely silly and awesome segments, and I'll admit two plot twists did surprise me. Two of my favorite characters from the original game are handled well too.

It is a shame the story does end up hitting familiar and expected beats, since I do appreciate so many of the new delivery options and opportunities. As usual, we can take on main orders during the campaign at designated spots, help with side orders found at certain hubs or prepper homes, and pick up packages found as we cross the country to complete deliveries that, for some reason, didn't happen. A new addition involves rescuing animals in the outback after a certain point in the campaign. We still are limited to only seeing a brief description of what items in packages are, aside from a few situations in which it's made more obvious what we're delivering, but it works really well! The soundtrack is amazing again, and it's a joy to listen to when walking or driving in Chiral Network-connected spaces.

I feel more options for getting deliveries done came up at a better pace in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach too. Many return from the first game. We have "bikes" early on, then the four-wheel pick-ups. Floating carts can be towed behind us. Different skeletons can be equipped to increase our stability, strength, or stamina, just like before. We can build ziplines, bridges, and roads. Monorails even come up at specific points. While walking is always an option, there's a degree of variety and accessibility I appreciated with the other methods and enhancements offered in this sequel. If you are getting frustrated, the new fast travel options end up being a time saver (when available). Connecting preppers who aren't on your scheduled route feels worthwhile, due to the bonuses you get for taking the time to meet them. The new cryptobiote options come in handy. The option to use passive skills if you get enough memory and unlock nodes with new abilities is quite a boon too. I especially loved the ones regarding weather!

That's because I felt weather is only element that provides a "challenge" when on deliveries for most of the campaign in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. There can be devastating windstorms that wear down your stamina and keep you from seeing Sam's hand in front of his face. These are so dangerous that even using the Odradek to scan the terrain and use route planning to set a tentative path to follow become little to no help. Surging currents at rivers make those even more daunting, and I'd get genuinely mad when I realized I didn't help contribute to bridge maintenance to protect them during storms. (I got especially mad if I had delicate cargo!) Earthquakes can make you lose your footing or damage cargo if you don't brace yourself when you get a warning. The elements wearing down Sam's stamina in certain spots can be a real issue too. I genuinely tried to avoid certain paths and conditions, since they could be so bad. At the same time, there's also a haunting beauty to these extreme situations. We're witnessing disasters in these storms, but it's so pretty to watch at a distance.

Yet due to the execution of certain elements, combat and BTs no longer feel like they posed the same threat in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach as in Death Stranding for much of the experience. BTs are present in certain locations and can be dangerous! However, Sam's DOOMs level in this entry, when paired with the varied arsenal available, made me felt more equipped to wipe them out when I did happen upon these spots. I'd only avoid them if I had especially sensitive cargo. The brigands that appear would be an issue... if we weren't constantly using less-than-lethal force. As such, there's no need to worry about Voidouts due to accidental deaths or trips to incinerators to properly dispose of bodies during the campaign. I actively ran bad guys over with my cars whenever possible, since the NPCs will swarm you, end up all clumped together in front of a four-wheel pick-up or bike, and there are no consequences to wiping them out in that incredibly efficient manner.  This doesn't mean BT encounters and times when Sam needs to get tough with opponents aren't satisfying or entertaining. I just didn't feel afraid in the way I did when happening upon a bad storm in an area with uncertain footing. The gravitas of those situations from the original Death Stranding often absent.

Since Death Stranding 2: On the Beach encourages cooperation in the same way Death Stranding did, I also ended up relying on the kindness of others almost immediately. I didn't need to actually fabricate my own vehicles for much of my trip, as I could tap into online garages or walk outside facilities to grab ones nearby. There were already chargers appearing frequently (and I placed a few myself). Even though I played ahead of launch for my review, I already got to enjoy infrastructure like roads and ziplines. Kojima Productions does introduce us to these building elements fairly swiftly, which works to our advantage as players, and I felt it became a substantial help during some particularly long voyages or more sensitive situations. Since vehicular transportation ended up being my "go-to" for most of my deliveries (and enemy deaths), I really appreciated jump ramps, roads, and bridges.

While Death Stranding 2: On the Beach can feel like a step forward for gameplay, I feel like Kojima Productions took a step back with its narrative and difficulty. Making deliveries is quite fun, with varied options for exploration and different environmental experiences. But fighting often lacks consequences and some characters' development felt altered. I enjoyed myself when I followed Sam on his way through this gorgeous game, but the Death Stranding sequel can feel rather predictable.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach early access started on the PS5 on June 24, 2025, and the full release date is June 26, 2025. A limited edition DualSense controller is also available.

the socoutmaster runs towards a player in peak

Indie sensation PEAK is all about surviving the island and reaching the highest ascent possible with your gang, but the different biomes are not the only challenges to your objective.

The game might not have your typical survival game monsters, but some creatures do roam the islands. A few of them might not be major threats as long as you deal with them properly, but there's one pretty vicious entity: the Scoutmaster.

All available monsters in PEAK

There are three 'monsters' currently in the game, and two of them are relatively minor and easier to handle.

Scoutmaster

The Scoutmaster is like the Yeti of the Himalayas. If you're playing solo, you'll have to blow on the Scoutmaster's Bugle (if you manage to obtain it in the first place). This will maximize your stamina, but the Scoutmaster will start chasing you for a minute.

There's no known way to defeat this entity (I have tried a lot of things, but nothing worked). There are other ways to increase your stamina, like drinking water or using another legendary item called the Bugle of Friendship.

If you're playing in a group, and one of the players gets too far ahead on the ascent, the Scoutmaster will spot that player and chase him. Rule 0 is not to leave your teammates alone on your ascent, or else the Scoutmaster will put an end to your climb.

Summoning the Scoutmaster also completes the Mentorship Badge achievement (also works if the entity summons itself) and grants you the Inverted Eyes cosmetic.

Bees

Bees typically will attack you when you try to mess with their hives. When you're in a group, one of you will have to lure the bees while the rest of the members can steal valuable resources from the hives. The bees typically chase you for a random duration, and their speed also varies. The only technique is to run away from them and keep running until they stop chasing.

Tick

Removing a Tick in PEAK
Image via Aggrocrab

Ticks can burrow deep into your legs, and they will keep sucking your blood and finally add stacks of poison. If you're solo, you won't notice them until the poison stacks are applied. When you do, crouch and remove the Tick from your legs. If you're playing in a group, chances are that your friends will notice the insect. Stand still, and let them remove the tick from you. Alternatively, do the same if you notice the pest on your friend.

Once removed, Ticks can be consumed as food (for some reason, they're considered a berry in the game). Doing so will also help complete the Foraging Bond achievement that requires you to eat five unique berries on your expedition (where the Tick will count as a variant).

Four players in PEAK.

A godsend when looking to avoid the fog, having a Faerie Lantern on your backpack can allow you to turn even a hopeless climb filled with mistakes into a complete success in PEAK.

But what exactly makes the lantern such a great find? Here's what the Faerie Lantern does in PEAK, as well as how you can get your hands on one.

What does the Faerie Lantern do in PEAK?

To the delight of all who either came in contact with the wrong mushrooms or are dealing with severe debuffs in PEAK, the Faerie Lantern both heals and clears all status effects from those within its AOE once lit. Before you ask, no, there's no way to recharge the lantern once its juice runs out, so make sure to save it for either the late biomes or for moments when you find yourself on your last legs during the climb.

How to get a Faerie Lantern

Like pretty much all other Legendary items in the game, you can get the Faerie Lantern in PEAK via either the Ancient Statues found at the end of each biome or by opening the Ancient Luggage scattered throughout the mountain. Keep in mind that the item is only one out of a wide selection of available drops provided by both of the above, so don't get your hopes up. So you can have an idea, even after attempting nine runs and finding multiple Bugles of Friendship, we were unable to get a single Faerie Lantern from the Ancient Statues.

But what about the regular Lantern?

Available as part of the plane crash loot on every run, many might see the regular lantern as a waste of an item slot, even more so if we consider how the nights in the mountain are by no means dangerous. But that's only true until you reach Alpine, as the regular lantern can counter the effects of frost while lit. To keep its effect active while you climb, light it up and put it on your backpack.

Now that you know how to get the Faerie Lantern, make sure to also take a look at how to unlock all cosmetic items in PEAK so you can show off the fruits of your labor to all of your friends.

PEAK has a lot of items, and most of the time, when escaping the fog, it's hard to know whether to take one or leave it without knowing what effect it gives out, especially when a lot of things can poison or hurt you, instead of aiding you.

So to help everyone out, we have created a list of every item and what it does, so when you find an item you've never seen before, you can give the list a quick CTRL+F scan and find out how useful, or unhelpful, it is.

Every item in Peak and how they work

A quick note: we might not have found all items and will update the information as we locate them. We also haven't listed all food types, as most of them are fairly easy to find. However, we have noted specific foods where they might have an effect, such as poisonous Mushrooms.

On the topic of poisonous mushrooms and finding out if one is poisonous or not, it's difficult as there are so many different mushrooms available. We tend to avoid them ourselves, for safety.

But anyway, here is a comprehensive guide to each item you can find, and what they do:

Item Type of Item Effects
Flare Misc When thrown, it creates smoke for finding lost teammates and giving a direction.
Lantern Misc Creates a light source and also stops freezing status effects in a small radius.
Bing Bong (Plush) Misc Does nothing. Required for an achievement.
Bugle (Musical Instrument) Misc Used for an achievement and getting Winterberry through Capybaras in hot springs.
Compass Misc Keep track of where you're facing. Mostly useless.
Bugle of Friendship Misc/Legendary Gives every player infinite stamina when used. Lasts for 10 seconds. Can run out of charge.
Scout Effigy Healing Revives a dead player, one-time use.
Heat Pack Healing Removes Frost damage. Doesn't stop it from affecting you.
Antidote Healing Cures 14 ticks of Poison
Medkit Healing Full Heals
Bandages Healing Heals for 12 ticks of damage.
Cure-All Healing Removes all status effects and heals to max stamina.
Faerie Lantern Healing/Legendary Slowly heals all players in a radius. Can run out of charge.
Pandora's Lunchbox Healing/Food/Curse 3 uses. Gives random hunger or status effects
Remedy Fungus Healing Thrown item. Releases spores that heal players of everything.
Blowgun Misc Shoots a one-time dart that inflicts heavy lethargy status.
Cursed Skull Misc/Legendary Kills you in return for all nearby teammates reviving, as well as removes all status effects and gives full stamina to everyone else.
Pirate's Compass Misc/Legendary Points to the closest closed luggage case.
Scoutmaser's Bugle Misc/Legendary Spawns the Scoutmaster to chase the player. Gives everyone nearby max Stamina.
Banana Peel Misc Players slip on it when stepped on.
Big Lollipop Food Infinite stamina temporarily, when used, after the effect finishes, you are inflicted by lethargy and need to wait to get your stamina back.
Marshmallow Food Better cooked. Recovers hunger.
Portable Stove Exploration Place down a stove that can cook food. Slowly cures freeze status effect. Can't be picked back up after being placed.
Rope Cannon Exploration Shoots out an arrow with a rope that falls. The rope is small, though.
Rope Spool Exploration 12.5m of rope that can be spun downwards and placed on a rock to help teammates climb.
Anti-Rope Spool Exploration Same as the above, but the rope goes upwards instead of downwards.
Anti-Rope Cannon Exploration Same as the Rope Cannon, but the rope goes upwards instead of downwards.
Chain Cannon Exploration Like the Rope Cannon, it fires out an anchor that locks to a wall, but creates a sideways vine-like wire instead.
Piton Exploration Can be placed on walls to recover stamina when climbing, but it can break after extended use.
Shelf Shroom Exploration When thrown, it creates a small platform to stand on.
Magic Bean Exploration When thrown at the ground, it creates a tall pole structure that's ladder-like to climb
Food Food There are so many different types of food that all heal you and can be cooked that its hard to note them all.

A fully grown Magic Bean in PEAK

The Magic Bean is a curious little item you can find in PEAK, and it was added in the June 18 update. Since then, players have been finding these beans but aren't quite sure what to do with them. So here's what the Magic Bean does in PEAK.

How does the Magic Bean work in PEAK?

I treat the Magic Bean as a "bridge creator" of sorts. No, it doesn't create a literal bridge (that would have been cool), but it does generate a pole. Once the bean is used, it'll create a tall vertical pole. I don't know its exact height, but it's significantly taller than the palm trees on the island.

Using the Magic Bean is pretty easy. Take it out of your item slot or your inventory, and throw it down on the ground. The stalk will sprout and keep growing, forming a scalable route that allows you to reach locations that otherwise wouldn't be possible. For example, it's one way to reach the floating luggage, where ropes won't be able to help you.

Some rumors suggest that they're located at the same exact spot (I will verify this once we get a new island), but you'll always find them on the SHORE. Just scout the beaches on the SHORE, and it will look like the image above. Make sure to throw the bean at a suitable spot to use it properly; don't use it in an area where there are plenty of scalable cliffs.

If you want more PEAK help, here's a list of all the items in PEAK and what they do.

Image of player lobby with multiple players in PEAK

If you've been living under an indie rock the past week, you might have missed out on arguably one of the best indie games of the year in PEAK, a fun co-operative climbing game that tests your morals and friendships all in one neat package.

It has taken over Steam in the past week and is relatively affordable for the majority of PC players. Its main premise is simple: you and your friends are dropped onto a randomly generated world and need to climb to the peak of the island to call for rescue. There are a lot more nuances than that, but overall, the game is a mix of mystery and fun that I have been longing for for quite some time now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrlUVhLBjG0&ab_channel=Landfall

A lot of its charm comes from the characters and the art style of the world, and the way in which every achievement you complete unlocks new cosmetics and a badge that appears on the sash of your character. As you climb peaks, you also unlock new difficulty options that add an extra challenge to the game, such as making you take damage at night when it's cold, or even as far as perma death if you or a friend were to die.

For those who just want to experience some goofy fun with friends, though, there is a lot to do here. Sticking together is vital to help friends who might be hungry or lacking stamina up to a higher ledge, and finding various items to take on the hectic climb is essential, especially when a deadly fog is chasing you down and forcing you to scramble up the mountain faster.

It's a game that is hard to explain but fun to play, so I implore anyone sitting on the fence to jump into PEAK as soon as possible. Even if you are playing by yourself, there is some fun to be had in trying to get some of the achievements or see how far you can get solo. But it is definitely worth playing with friends.

Just remember rule 0: Never leave a scout behind... unless you want the Scoutmaster to get angry. No one is ever prepared for that cryptid monster encounter.

A PEAK player trying hard not to fall down while climbing the mountain

The Bugle of Friendship is an interesting item found on your adventures in PEAK, and it has the ability to make the life of your team easier on the way to the top.

This item allows you to boost your entire team's stamina at the required moment. This guide will help you find this elusive item and discuss the best ways to use it.

How does the Bugle of Friendship work in PEAK?

There are different ways to increase your stamina in PEAK. A relatively easy way is to grab a bottle of water, which adds reserve stamina. However, the reserve stamina will still deplete on use, and that's where the Bugle of Friendship comes in.

This item, when used, adds infinite stamina for you and all your teammates. Your stamina will not only recharge to full, but it won't deplete for ten seconds. During this period, you can try the hardest climbs without having to fear a fall. The same status effect will also apply to everyone in your party (as long as they're alive).

The Bugle of Friendship in PEAK at the foot steps of a statue
Screenshot via Landcrab

The Bugle of Friendship is pretty hard to find, and it will largely boil down to luck. The good news is you only need one. As long as someone in your group has it, everyone will get the benefits when the item is used. Try to use it in a situation when you're anticipating a difficult climb that will be impossible to scale otherwise.

Also, it's better to use it when your full party, or nearly all of them, is alive, as you'll make the most out of its benefits. It's also a good idea to inform your friends before using it—you could save them a bottle of water.

How do you find the Bugle of Friendship in PEAK?

There are two current locations where you can find this legendary item.

  • Ancient Chests
  • Statues located at campsites

Ultimately, it will all come down to your luck, as there's no guaranteed way to find the Bugle of Friendship in the current build of the game. If you're lucky, time is used perfectly to prevent it from turning into a waste.
