There are some games that just make you cry. The ending of Plague Tale: Requiem, for example, or the climax of Act 1 in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - if a videogame can make you cry, it's doing something right. As a narrative-driven RPG fan, the list of sob-worthy games in my Steam library is pretty extensive, but Spiritfarer is up there with the best of them, shattering hearts and ruining days everywhere. Now the Thunder Lotus team is back with At Fate's End, an equally emotionally charged action-adventure game where the enemies are your siblings, and your actions can either reunite a broken family, or deepen the rifts even further.

I wasn't expecting Grounded 2 to arrive so soon after the first, but I'm already quite excited to delve into the undergrowth. The original is a delightful spin on survival games, and teaming up with friends to overcome the threat of giant ladybugs and spinders ended up being one of my surprise favorite co-op experiences in recent years. Now, it's back, and the sequel is arriving via Xbox Game Preview very soon.

When is The Outer Worlds 2 release date? It's been a while since Obsidian Entertainment's first space venture, but it had much of the same DNA as the Fallout series. This isn't necessarily surprising, given that Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, the creators of the Fallout series, were the game's directors. Now, we're finally getting the chance to head back to Halcyon in The Outer Worlds 2.

The first in Obsidian's space adventure series was an enjoyable RPG game, perhaps hampered by the studio's upcoming Microsoft acquisition. The Outer Worlds 2 was confirmed to be in active development in June 2021, and a release date window has now dropped, and it's soon. Here's what we know about the release date window for The Outer Worlds 2 and what we can speculate about the upcoming space game sequel.

Is Dune Awakening down? While we still love single-player games, but there's also something to be said for the chaotic joy to be had in multiplayer experiences - especially massively multiplayer ones.

One of the few downsides that comes with playing with friends and strangers around the world is the instability of online servers. Whoever said there's dignity in defeat has never played Madame Cyclone's brutal side-scrolling shooter, Omut. While there's maybe some dignity in racking up five or six deaths to a punishing boss, perishing 300 times in 45 minutes to Omut's first big bad stripped me of every ounce of self-respect I had. And yet, I kept coming back for more, every time edging slightly closer to victory and falling short before resurrecting immediately for just "one more try." While this is partly down to pride, it's also because Omut's surreal, pixelated world is so downright bizarre and intoxicating that I need to see more. The fact that you have to seriously work for it makes it all the more tantalizing.

Yes, Atlus Will Make Persona 4 Remake Revival

At the Xbox Games Showcase during Summer Game Fest 2025, Atlus confirmed a Persona 4 remake is happening. Like Persona 3 Reload, it features an extended title. It will be called Persona 4 Revival, and it will appear on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Here's the official reveal:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8wgp9eaQRM

And here is the full 2025 Xbox Games Showcase:

There have sort of been rumblings about a Persona 4 remake for a while now. However, more credence was lent to rumors when Yuri Lowenthal brought up that he wouldn't be returning to appear as Yosuke Hanamura. He's voiced the character in every entry and spin-off. After that, the second and current Chie Satonaka voice actress, Erin Fitzgerald, also mentioned she hadn't been contacted about the project.

Persona 4 is available on the PS2, and Persona 4 Golden showed up on the Switch, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Persona 4 Revival is in development for the Xbox Series X. Persona 3 Reload is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Game Freak Making Beast of Reincarnation for PS5, Xbox, and PC

Game Freak will release a new game called Beast of Reincarnation for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. It will debut in 2026. The game will be published by Fictions. The June 2025 Xbox Game Showcase shared the first trailer as one of the world reveals during the event, and it also involved a first gameplay trailer.

In 4026, humanity will become extinct. A blight is spreading across the land. Emma the Sealer is the one tasked with dealing with the titular beast, as well as other corrupted beings. The first trailer included a number of cinematics, as well as quite a bit of gameplay with Emma attacking various enemies. It almost looks like it could be a Soulslike sort of title, but we'll need to wait for more details to be certain about how it works.

Here's the first reveal trailer for the new Game Freak game:

Instants Scrapbooking Game Relies on Context Clues and Logic

Unpacking set something of a trend with cozy puzzle games by offering ambient storytelling as we engaged in activities, and Instants builds on that in a similar way by adding scrapbooking to the mix. We're organizing things yet again. However, this time it involves logic puzzles that requiring finding the correct order of events for images to create a chronologically correct scrapbook. How much you get out of the experience depends on the investment you put into it.

While Unpacking leaves character identities and finer details up in the air, we're more certain of who we are and what's going on in the puzzle game Instants. Our character enjoys making scrapbooks. Family and friends come to us to create collections based on supplied images, postcards, and memories. We can check and see who the "cast" involved are. It's also possible to read cards and the backs of pictures for additional details. In each case, we need to put everything together to commemorate special moments.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jqQYZsy_XE&ab_channel=Endflame

If you want to go through Instants rather quickly, it is absolutely possible by ignoring the decoration element of the scrapbooking game. After all, it involves just dumping pictures in proper chronological places. Someone just in it for the logic puzzles can sometimes jam in all the pictures onto two or four pages without any additional decoration or fanfare. As you do, you'll see lines appear that dictate accuracy in your recording. Green ones show the proper order is maintained. Any color other than green is an alert that you've gotten things mixed up and need to swap things around to ensure the pacing is preserved.

Order goes from upper left to bottom right, so people putting four photos or items on a page will need to put the first in the upper left corner, the second in the upper right, the third in the bottom left, and fourth in the bottom right, and so on. From what I saw, Instants is very good at determining accuracy, just like Unpacking was with items, so I never had an issue when arranging items. Also, the Steam Deck and handheld gaming PCs are supported, so it's easy to play on the go.

However, I think Instants is a game best played by someone who has a lot of free time and genuinely enjoys scrapbooking and organizing photo albums. There are a lot of creative elements for decorating and labeling pictures in the album. The assignments tend to involve special moments, families, or occasions. As such, it really leans into trying to go all out and have fun with it. Since I went through it for a playtest, I couldn't take that type of time with it. But I actually am going back through it at a much slower pace, which is the ideal way to play, and genuinely having fun decorating the virtual books.

Instants takes the same sort of puzzle approach as indie darling Unpacking, and it works for this cozy game! Someone in it for the challenge can speed through, taking in visual and written clues to find right answers. People who want to take their time and absorb themselves in the simulation can ease into it. Especially since there are a lot of decorative elements and you aren't limited by number of pages. It's quite pleasant and offers a peek into people's lives.

Instants is available on the Switch and PC via Steam

Dune Awakening characters

In Dune Awakening, every piece of activity is based around your server choice, and there are certain limitations that the game doesn't explain to you.

To start your adventures, you select a server for a region before creating your character. There are plenty of servers available for all major regions, and you can also change servers when you want, but that doesn't mean you get to transfer your progress in a straightforward way, too.

How to change your servers in Dune Awakening

Changing servers is one of the easiest things to do.

  • Open your game and let it load to the main screen.
  • You'll find a Servers option right beside Continue.
  • Select a new server from the list of available options. You can choose the same region or a different one.
  • If the new server isn't at full capacity, you can join without any hassle. If it's nearly full, you must wait in a queue.

As easy as it is to change servers, one major problem is explained in the following section.

The Server tab on the main screen of Dune Awakening that allows you to pick a server
Screenshot by Destructoid

Can you transfer your character across different servers?

It's easy to change your servers. However, there's a catch: you can't transfer your character. If you have changed your server, you'll have to start fresh (unless you have created a character on that server in the past). Any progression from your other server is locked to it, and you can't carry it over in Dune Awakening.

This is where choosing your server properly becomes important. If you want to play with your friends, you'll want to communicate and join the same servers. Otherwise, your multiplayer sessions will always have some limitations.

The only exception to this rule is private servers. Private servers can be rented from three different service providers. They have some similarities with official servers but offer certain privileges, one of them being server-related progression. If you have your own private server and wish to switch to another one, you can carry all your in-game items. This is only possible when switching from one private to another private one.

If you switch from an official server to a private type, you must start from scratch. Item transfers and character progression sharing between official and private servers are strictly forbidden.

Fortnite Hope in Chapter 6 Season 3

Kicking off Fortnite's Chapter 6, Season 3: Super event is several Island Stories that set the stage for the rest of June and beyond. One of these stories is Shadows of the Shard, a quest series involving Hope and her mission to help Kendo defeat Daigo and Kor.

How to complete Shadows of the Shard quests in Fortnite

For the first few stages of Shadows of the Shard, you'll talk to Hope and Kendo to figure out Daigo's recent moves. After a few stages, you'll be locked out of the quest until you finish Kendo's Brothers of Mask and Blade mission.

Talk to Hope

Your first objective during the Shadows of the Shard quest series is to speak to Hope at Supernova Academy. Supernova Academy is a new POI in Chapter 6, Season 3: Super, located southeast of Flooded Frogs and west of Pumped Power.

Fortnite Hope and Supernova Academy map location
Screenshot by Destructoid

Once you arrive here, talk to Hope about the Mask Maker, Daigo, to hear some lore behind the story. Having this conversation will knock out the first two tasks of the quest, leading you into stage three.

Meet up with Kendo at Shogun's Solitude

Your next goal is to head over to Shogun's Solitude, located in the bottom-left corner of the map, and talk to Kendo. Speak to him about Daigo to learn about his involvement with the Spirit Realm. The hardest part is making it to this location without being eliminated by other players, so be cautious of your surroundings as you travel here.

Fortnite Kendo map location during Chapter 6 Season 3
Screenshot by Destructoid

From this point onward, you won't be able to complete Shadows of the Shard until you complete Kendo's questline, Brothers of Mask and Blade. You can either challenge yourself to finish this mission on your own or read ahead for an overview of the quest's requirements.

Completing Brothers of Mask and Blade

Brothers of Mask and Blade is a separate quest from Shadows of the Shard that you can track in your quest list. It has multiple stages, ranging from using particular weapons to damage enemies to defeating certain enemy types.

Your first objective is to damage players with the Spire Rifle. You can obtain a Spire Rifle by looting chests, finding it on the floor, or eliminating players that use it. Once you have one, use it on other players and inflict at least 250 total damage to complete the task.

Next, you'll need to defeat some Demon Guards. You can find these enemies at Demon's Domain or near spires that spawn around the map. They're easy to fight as long as you defend yourself against the spires or bosses that patrol these areas.

Fortnite Demon Guard
Screenshot by Destructoid

The third task is tough, requiring you to defeat Daigo or Kor. Kor is Shogun Island's new boss, replacing Shogun X. Daigo, on the other hand, appears exclusively in Demon's Domain right from the get-go. Which boss you fight is up to you, but make sure you have strong weapons, full shields, and some emergency consumables on hand before confronting them.

Brothers of Mask and Blade's fourth task is also slightly difficult, albeit easier than the previous one. During your matches, you'll need to destroy a Scout or Overlord Spire. Think of them as mini-bosses surrounded by henchmen. You can find their exact locations on your in-game map during your matches.

Fortnite Scout Spire
Screenshot by Destructoid

Now that you've fought the season's bosses, it's time to visit Kendo once more and wrap up the Brothers of Mask and Blade quest, letting you swap back over to Shadows of the Shard.

Report back to Hope

Fortunately, stage four was by far the most challenging part of this quest. Now that you've completed this side mission, head back to Hope and tell her everything you've learned to complete the Shadows of the Shard quest, rewarding you with a total of 100,000 XP throughout both missions.

Krypto the dog in Fortnite

I'll just come out and say it—this is one of the cutest additions Fortnite has ever seen. I mean, being able to summon a puppy to destroy buildings and eliminate anything within a 10-meter radius? Sign me up.

If you want in on the fun, too, you'll need to get your hands on a Krypto Treat. This Mythic-grade item is the key to summoning Krypto and witnessing the destructive force of the most powerful and intelligent puppy on the planet.

Where to find Krypto Treat in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3

You can find Krypto Treats inside chests, on the floor, or as player elimination drops. Since it's a Mythic item, it's much rarer than your standard common or uncommon weapons. Every batch of Krypto Treat you obtain gives you two of these items, giving you two opportunities to test its powers.

Krypto treat in Fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

You have a few options for locating this item. You can either run around the map, open as many treasure chests as you can find, and hope you spot this item, or you can eliminate a bunch of players until one drops some treats. Regardless, it's entirely luck-based.

How to use Krypto Treat in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3

The main purpose of Krypto Treats is to summon Krypto, Superman's dog. To do this, hover over the item and hold your aim sights button to pick the exact location you want to use it. Then, you can use your fire button to launch it, throwing the treat onto the floor and summoning Krypto in its place.

As Krypto lands on the ground, he'll blast through any buildings in his way and inflict 100 damage to nearby enemies. This is especially effective in Build Mode, as he can very easily wreck anything other players build to protect themselves. Nonetheless, if you're a Zero Build player, you can still use this to damage structures and fight enemies, as long as you can predict where they'll go next.

As a Zero Build player myself, I've found some uses for this in major POIs. If someone's approaching a narrow bridge or about to enter a building, you can toss a treat near the spot and catch them off guard. Even if they dodge it, you can use this to aim more easily, as they'll likely run left or right rather than backwards. At the end of the day, you get to see a cute dog, so it's always worth the effort.

Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3: Super is all about letting out your inner superhero and performing heroic deeds. By taking charge throughout your matches and putting your best foot forward, you can rise Hero Ranks, rewarding you with powerful bonuses.

What is Hero Rank in Fortnite Super Season?

Hero Rank is a mechanic in Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3: Super that rewards you for performing heroic deeds. You start every match at C rank, with S+ being the maximum you can reach. Below is a list of every Hero Rank:

  • C-rank
  • B-rank
  • A-rank
  • S-rank
  • S+ rank

Each time you rank up, you'll receive 100 Effective Health, making it much harder for enemies to attack you. However, your rank will reset every game, giving you only until the end of a round to reach S+ rank. The longer you survive a match, the higher your odds of climbing the ranks and earning some sweet rewards.

How to increase your Hero Rank in Fortnite Super Season

Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3 has several heroic deeds you can perform to increase your Hero Rank, as listed below:

As you increase your rank, you'll unlock special Hero Caches that give you rewards. These can be anything from weapons to consumables and Boons. Here's a list of rewards you'll get from each Hero Cache, depending on your rank:

Rank C

  • Uncommon weapon
  • Uncommon consumable
  • Low chance of a Boon

Rank B

  • Rare weapon
  • Rare consumable
  • High chance of a Boon
  • Random Hero item

Rank A

  • Epic weapon
  • Epic consumable
  • Boon
  • Random Hero item

Rank S

  • Legendary weapon
  • Legendary consumable
  • Boon
  • Random Hero item

Rank S+

There's no Hero Cache for this one. Instead, you'll hit a massive Power Spike, rewarding you with every Boon you were previously missing. Their effects improve after reaching Rank S and range from giving you the Slap Effect after healing yourself to marking players who attack you.

As you reach each rank, you'll find map markers indicating where each cache lies. In short, you can randomly find them in the wild or follow the markers directly to your next spot and claim its rewards. You also won't be locked out of previous caches if you rank up. Instead, you'll just have more goodies to obtain as you run around and fight enemies.

big walk characters

Day of the Devs: Summer Edition 2025 might already be over but it's left a lasting impact on me for all the lovely indie games that got revealed, but it was one returning indie game that tugged at my heartstrings after months of waiting to hear more from it, and of course it got delayed by a year.

Big Walk, from House House, has been a game I have wanted to learn more about for a while now. It's the team that gave us Untitled Goose Game, and the weird mystery surrounding its setting, visuals, and gameplay had alluded us until the reveal gameplay overview trailer dropped.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0ez7AP4-GM&ab_channel=HouseHouse

It's a simple game premise. You walk around a big map with your friends exploring, completing puzzles, and likely getting lost or separated in the expansive world. The more I see it and hear the ambient music, the more I feel like there is a bigger secret at play here other than 'walk and talk' as the developers have been pitching it.

It feels like a game where no two play sessions are the same, where a group of friends can go different paths and discover things at different times. It's also nice to see a game focused on freedom with friends, creative fun moments, and living in the moment. The inclusion of proximity voice chat, so you can actually get lost and have to find each other using tools available to you, is a nice touch.

The puzzles briefly shown off also feel wonderful, and really play on this communication-type of game the developers are trying to craft. I'm sorry, I'm gushing now. It looks like the perfect game, and I want to get my hands on it as soon as possible. But of course, I need to wait until next year to finally see if it lives up to my anticipation.

After watching the trailer, I just needed a space to gush and talk about what I have seen in hopes someone else will watch the trailer as well and think 'that looks so cool!'

To pay back for you listening to my thoughts, I'd love to hear about your own indie game anticipations in the comments below. Let me know if there is something coming up you're excited for, either from Summer Games Fest or as a whole. I want to hear from you!
