PCGamesN Thursday, July 3, 2025 9:01 AM The last time we heard from Greg 'Slavic Magic' Styczen and the rest of the Manor Lords team, it was April. Pathfinding, the camera system, the user interface, and finer details like stone mechanics and castle pieces were all tweaked or overhauled, marking one of the most significant updates in what was then the game's history. Since then, the medieval city builder and spiritual cousin to the likes of Cities Skylines and Age of Empires 2 has been more or less silent. But now, Styczen confirms that a new Manor Lords update is indeed on the way, and that it is going to transform several of the game's fundamentals. PCGamesN Thursday, July 3, 2025 7:59 AM The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9980X CPU is slated to arrive later this month and will be one of if not the fastest desktop processor on the market, according to the latest tests on PassMark. The 64-core, 128-thread CPU performed so well that it almost achieved the same multithread score as the recently released AMD Epyc 9575F server CPU. Compared to the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9980X is three times faster, and it's twice as fast as the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. In fact, the new AMD desktop CPU beat 1,450 other chips to gain its new title. You'd think this would put the Threadripper 9980X on the fast track to our best gaming CPU list, but that's where you might be mistaken. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 3, 2025 11:16 AM ![]() Earlier this week, Hideo Kojima reiterated that he'd really like to make a video game in space, much to Mark's despair and outrage. Perhaps "how do we send Hideo Kojima into outer space" can be one of the problems they solve in the Spaceship Game Jam, a collaboration between the Finnish Game Jam and the European Space Agency, in which starry-eyed developers "design and prototype games or playful concepts inspired by real-world space issues". |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 3, 2025 10:28 AM ![]() Romero Games have announced in the wake of mass layoffs at Microsoft that funding for their next shooter has been pulled by its publisher. A number of former staff at the studio founded by Doom co-creator John Romero and Brenda Romero have since written on social media that they've lost their jobs as part of those MS cuts. A statement posted to Romero Games' Twitter account attributed to Brenda Romero asserts that the game's publisher, which it didn't name, had opted to pull the funding for it "along with several other unannounced projects at other studios". |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 3, 2025 10:11 AM ![]() It's been a long time since the last major Manor Lords update and it'll likely be a while till the next. This might strike you as dismal news, if you adhere to the "death by a thousand patches" school of Steam early access, but you have to remember that Manor Lords is a city builder set in late 14th-century Franconia, when technology lolled along at the pace of a drunken ox. Also, the developers Slavic Magic are carrying out a "full rework" of the game, rather than dolling things out in smaller patches. In particular, there's a new building affinity system in development that may please fans of pollination. Any flowers reading this? The next update is for you, I guess. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 3, 2025 7:54 AM ![]() The Perfect Dark reboot looked like an excellent addition to the immersive sim genre. Based on Microsoft's previous shuttering of Arkane Austin, I can only assume that this made Phil Spencer very angry. "Why can I lift massive crates but only fit one rifle in my inventory!", roared Spencer. Subsequently, both the reboot and studio The Initiative were axed this week by Microsoft as part of their ongoing efforts to ensure their legacy going forward is one of destroying livelihoods, participating in what a UN rapporteur describes as an "economy of genocide", and forcing Copilot inside that little plastic bit at the end of your shoelaces. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 3, 2025 7:47 AM ![]() Battlefield 6's many leaks have earned it a bit of Deadlock-style buzz, but it seems things haven't been going well behind-the-scenes. A new report from Ars Technica based on conversations with current and former developers details a budget that's beyond big, a campaign that's running "massively late" following a studio closure, and an unrealistic-sounding executive goal of attracting 100 million players. |

A French court handed out suspended sentences to the three executives, as well as fines, the highest of which was €45,000. Ok, maybe I actually mean fire the game back up to stare at Narcissus. Sue me. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 3, 2025 5:12 AM ![]() Edwin gave Ostrich Farm header honours in this week's Maw, and with good reason I think. "Breed vibrant ostriches", he wrote. I misread it as "breed violent ostriches" and got excited. I still liked the concept even after realising my mistake. I pinned the Steam page tab (aka "The Coward's Wishlist"), and forgot about it for a couple of days. This morning, I clicked on the tab again while browser tidying. "I wonder how Steam likes the ostrich game?", I mused. One review. A single, negative review. "The performance tanked for me once I had around 70 ostriches and made the game totally unplayable". |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, July 3, 2025 4:48 AM ![]() Toys! Small toys shaped like things I know from videogames! With rules so I can make them fight each other! Again! The Witcher: No Man's Land is a miniatures skirmish game set (I assume since Letho is still palling around with Nilfgaard) somewhere around The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings. There's a starter set out later this year with Geralt, Letho, a Griffin, a Striga, and some mates. It uses some of the same models from Cyberpunk publisher R. Talsarion's Witcher RPG, so you can peruse or pick up a few of these already. I would recommend waiting if you're tempted, though. Starter sets generally come with a chunky discount over buying models individually, and you'll get the extra bits like cards that you need to play the game. |

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons snow globe gachapon that lets you fill the toy with water to make your own will be re-run in Japan starting in the first week of July 2025. It'll cost 400 JPY ($2.80) per attempt. [Thanks, Inside Games!]
These water globe toys first appeared in Japan three years ago in 2022. Back then, it cost 300 JPY (around $2.60 at the time) per attempt, so you'll be pulling for these toys at an inflated price. Each snow globe globe depicts a different seasonal scene from the Animal Crossing: New Horizons island once filled with water, complete with some popular villagers. There's also one of the Island Representative standing at the Airport, as well as one using the promotional art depicting island life. This makes for a total of six variations.
As a note, you'll have to put the water globe together yourself, and it doesn't come in a capsule, making it a more sustainable type of gachapon. After filling the globe part with water, you're supposed to set it on the stand. Then, you can display it.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out in 2020 as the fifth installment in the Animal Crossing series. The village the player lives in and gets to develop is on a deserted island, and they can go "scout" more villagers by flying to other islands from the Airport. It is one of the best-selling games on the Nintendo Switch, especially since it came out during the COVID-19 quarantine and was used as a replacement for social interactions.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is readily available on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

I like the NieR: Automata Stellar Blade crossover. The outfits looked great. The commonalities between the two series' themes, characters, and atmospheres ensured it work. Now that I experienced the Stellar Blade Goddess of Victory: NIKKE DLC though, I like like it's a stronger addition. It is very much geared toward people who love both Shift Up titles, as you might expect, but the execution blends things together better than I expected.
To start, I appreciate how everything gets started. Eve meets Scarlet and Volt in the Wasteland. Even if you aren't familiar with Scarlet and NIKKE, this introduction establishes her awareness and skill, since can see Eve's sword right away. It sets up the series of side missions involving robots and the theft of their items. There's an excuse for Volt to be a vendor for the items inspired by NIKKE characters in Stellar Blade. There's not too much exposition, so it's more of an "if you know, you know" situation, but the set-up is sound.
Once you get into these missions, the gameplay style shifts to actual Goddess of Victory: NIKKE experiences in Stellar Blade. Eve hides behind cover, just as the NIKKEs do. You shoot down opponents. Your assault builds up a Burst gauge for a major hit like the NIKKE Burst skills. It's really fun to see that style of gameplay in this setting, and it still works and fits in with what we know about Eve and her abilities.
The costumes are also especially well-suited to the situation. Eve can dress as Alice, Anis, Dorothy, Modernia, Rapi, and Scarlet. Given this crossover involves a game from the same developer, they're intimately familiar with the designs. It also means a more realistic look at each outfit after seeing the live 2D types of looks before. It's a best of both worlds situation, honestly. People who like Stellar Blade only get more costumes for Eve that generally look cute and fit the sci-fi theme. Those who love Goddess of Victory: NIKKE as well see all of these outfits in a new way for the first time. I like Dorothy's Elegant Dress and Alice's Cooling Suit as they don't look a lot like anything else in Stellar Blade right now, but do fit right into the game perfectly.

The crowning jewel of the crossover DLC ended up being a fight I really found fun because it happened after I'd perfectly learned how to dodge and parry in Stellar Blade. Once you complete all the missions Scarlet assigned Eve, she requests a "lesson." She'll be added to the Boss Challenge. This takes you to the Moonlit Valley to face her and take part in the lesson. It's a fast-paced fight that involves trying your best not to be hit while also trading blows. Trying to stagger her is ideal, since that can also give you a moment to back away to get space and heal. It does end up feeling like a fight between sword masters, which I appreciated.
The Goddess of Victory: NIKKE Stellar Blade DLC is such a well-executed addition. It really pulls in so many elements from Shift Up's mobile game. Scarlet ends up being a perfect spokesperson for the title, especially given her own background with the sword. It feels like a lovingly handled pairing of two titles that do share quite a bit in common.
Stellar Blade is available on the PS5 and PC, as is its Goddess of Victory: NIKKE DLC pack. Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is on the PC and mobile devices.

MARVEL Mystic Mayhem isn't the easiest of games to navigate if you're going the F2P route (free-to-play).
While you can progress fairly without spending any money, the resource crunch hits hard and does so fairly quickly. In terms of generosity, NetEase could do better, especially with the premium currency. But you can still ensure steady progress with a bit of planning. Doing so will allow you to hit level 40 within the first five days, and things should get easier from that point.
How to progress a F2P player in MARVEL Mystic Mayhem
As with any gacha, the trick is to carefully manage your resources, because you won't have a plethora of them. First, you have to understand one core idea: as a F2P player, you're not going to have every character (especially the 3-star names, as they're way harder to get).
The first important step is to clear all the daily activities before your energy can recharge. Unlike the Story and Memento modes, activities like Treasure Hunts consume energy. You can have a total of 240 energy at any given time. Try to always keep this under 240, as you will stop gaining it if you're beyond the threshold.
![]()
Second, how do you spend your keys? There are two types: one that is used on the evergreen banner, and the other, which is used on rate-up banners. Both banners have a hard pity set at 80. If you want to use your Crystals (aka Dreamgems) for buying keys, always spend on the keys required for opening the rate-up banners. As a free-to-play, I believe there's a better way to spend your Crystals. But before that, let me explain a bit more about the evergreen banner.
The evergreen banner doesn't have all 3-star characters available in MARVEL Mystic Mayhem. However, the banner doesn't have an end date, which makes it feasible for you to hit the hard pity. Moreover, you're guaranteed a random 3-star once you complete 40 pulls.
![]()
The pool of heroes (that you get after 40 pulls) includes Emma Frost, Juggernaut, Thor, and Doctor Strange. All four characters are top tiers in their respective roles, so they're all worth it (especially at 40 pulls). Your first objective is to complete every available event quest to earn as many keys as possible, but don't spend your Crystals.
Coming to the Crystals: you can use them on the Premium banners (aka rate-ups), but you're better served by using them to buy Energy Orbs. When you're just starting, you'll be gated by your player level. The only way to consistently raise it is by playing the daily activities, but that requires energy. Once you've finished your available quota, you can use the Crystals to buy Energy Orbs (30 Dreamgems for 60 Energy) and earn more XP without having to wait for the daily refresh. This is a better way to spend your premium currency rather than hoping to get lucky on the Rate-Up banners.
Don't get me wrong; you can still get lucky with the banners and pull a top-tier character. But that essentially depends on a tiny percentage, or you'll have to guarantee 80 pulls (that way, you're confirmed of a 3-star character). Instead, spending your Crystals to quicken your leveling up is much more beneficial in the long run. Doing so will also get you more keys from various objectives and get you closer to the 80-pull mark on the evergreen banner.
![]()
As of writing, you can reset your characters and get back all the invested materials. It's the best time to build up as many characters as possible. Doing so not only gives you a well-rounded roster, but you can also get more Crystals from completing character milestones. You can always reset the ones that you won't need in the long run, but those extra Crystals will be yours to keep.
That's pretty much all you need to know about managing your hard-earned resources if you're not spending any money. Always be on the lookout for additional time-limited events that NetEase will release periodically. Those will be extra sources of rewards to build up your roster as we get more content in the future.

Everyone knows Marvel characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Captain America, but what do you know about Doop and Phone Ranger? Get ready to maybe see them in-game in Marvel Rivals in a few years.
Marvel Rivals director Guangyun Chen recently said in an interview with VideoGamer that the game's development team is "licensed to explore the full Marvel universe" and draw from "over 85 years" of weird, obscure, and unique characters. With a new hero set to launch every month starting with season three on July 11, this basically means that things are going to get weird.
![]()
There is no shortage of weird and silly characters in Marvel, and the list gets especially big when you dive deep into the expansive roster of the most obscure heroes and villains. Marvel Rivals already has some unique ones in Jeff the Land Shark and Squirrel Girl, but it could only get odder from there.
While NetEase is currently set to "focus on the heavy-hitters" like season three's additions of Jean Grey/Phoenix and Blade, Chen said the team will eventually "shine a light on some lesser-known yet equally fascinating characters." Oh yeah, this is gonna get fun.
There's a long list of animal-like or anthropomorphic characters to continue the trend, such as Howard the Duck, Hit-Monkey, Spider-Ham, Hellcow, Frog-Man, Swarm, Lockjaw, Orka, and Gibbon. Jeff likely won't be the only animal in the game for long.
And then there's humanoid characters like Paste Pot Pete and M.O.D.O.K. (already found mentioned within the files), or how about Doorman, who is literally a living doorway? Have you heard of Doctor Bong? Slapstick? Gamecock? Doop? Yeah, have fun googling some of these.
And so I ask you, dear reader, which obscure or weird Marvel character do you hope to be playing as soon in Marvel Rivals? Answer our poll and let us know in the comments below.

Team 4 will continue on the same path as the first three squads: you can expect to find special cards for active footballers, Heroes, and Icons. Most of the cards will be available in packs, but expect to see a few more names as part of objectives and SBCs.
Let's take a look at all the leaks currently available, and we will add more names as new leaks emerge.

Here's a list of all the leaked cards, along with their base position and overall ratings.
More leaks are expected to arrive later on Thursday and Friday. There's a strong chance for the whole team to be leaked ahead of the official launch. Out of all the names mentioned above, Eberichi Eze is expected to be part of an SBC.
EA FC 25 Shapeshifters Team 4 release
EA Sports has already confirmed the release date for the fourth team. Team 4 will replace the Team 3 cards in packs when it goes live on Friday, July 4. The launch will be at 6 pm UK time, which is standard for all promos.
Fresh SBCs, objectives, and evolutions will accompany the new promo team. We are yet to get a big SBC to complete during the Shapeshifters promo, and that could change during the fourth and final week of the promo. As of writing, Eze is the only leaked card expected to appear as an SBC. There are likely going to be more challenges for the community to complete, ahead of the upcoming FUTTIES promo in the last season of Ultimate Team.

Obtaining powerful gear is crucial for success in Minecraft. When you're just starting off, you won't be able to make the best items available, so you need to make use of easier-to-acquire gear, like copper tools, weapons, and armor.
Since these items weren't always part of Minecraft, you might not be familiar with how to go about acquiring this gear. You likely won't need copper gear all the time, but there are certainly many instances where this gear may come in handy, so here's how to get all copper tools, weapons, and armor in Minecraft.
Table of contents
How to craft all copper tools in Minecraft
![]()
There are three tools you can make with copper, all of which can be crafted using copper ingots and sticks. The required materials and crafting configurations for each one are as follows.
How to craft all copper weapons in Minecraft
There are just two weapons you can make with copper. All other weapons that exist in Minecraft don't have variants, so it makes sense that there aren't any other copper options. The two main weapons you'll generally be using do come in copper, and that's all you really need.
How to craft all copper armor in Minecraft
You can make a full four-piece armor set out of copper. To do so, you need lots of copper ingots, as this is the only item required to make each one. The layout for making each item is the same as all other gear, just with copper ingots instead of the other variants.
What is the durability of copper gear in Minecraft?
Copper gear has middle-of-the-road durability, falling right between stone and iron items. It's better than leather, gold, stone, and chainmail, but worse than iron, diamond, and netherite. Its durability isn't super great, but it's also not that bad, which makes it a solid option to equip as you work on getting the three better tiers above it.
The copper pickaxe is a good showcase of what items of this variety are capable of. It allows you to mine for much longer than the stone version, but you still can't mine higher-tiered materials with it, which means you still need to focus on acquiring iron to upgrade your tools. Copper gear is solid early on, but not the type of gear you want to have as you get deeper into Minecraft.
![]()
Is copper gear good in Minecraft?
Copper gear is just okay in Minecraft. It's not bad, but it's not really all that good either. It falls exactly in the middle of all the available gear, so it's perfectly okay without leaning one way or the other. It's a great set of gear to have at your disposal while you're working on acquiring better items, but it shouldn't be your main gear long term.
If you have loads of extra copper you don't know what to do with, consider making a Copper Golem next. Some other fresh features you may need assistance with are turning on Vibrant Visuals and using the player locator bar.

When the Copper Golem lost the Minecraft Live vote in 2021, we thought it was the end for this mob. Luckily, Mojang decided to create and introduce them anyway, and you can now bring a Copper Golem to life in Minecraft.
Since it's a newer mob that wasn't always present in the game, there's a good chance you're not familiar with how to find and interact with this creature. They're by far some of the most helpful allies you can have at your side, so here's how to make a Copper Golem in Minecraft.
Table of contents
How to craft a Copper Golem in Minecraft
You can make a Copper Golem by placing one carved pumpkin block on top of one regular block of copper. There are lots of different copper block variants, and you can use copper at any oxidation stage to spawn this creature. This includes:
The Copper Golem and chest take on the appearance of whichever type of copper block you choose. This means you should select the one you want both items to reflect, as you cannot change the appearance of them once they've been created.
![]()
Where to find a Copper Golem in Minecraft
Copper Golems don't spawn naturally like most other mobs, so you can't go out in the world and search around to find them. Instead, you must craft one yourself to make this creature appear. You'll never come across a Copper Golem unless you or another player has elected to make one.
What do Copper Golems do in Minecraft?
Copper Golems help you sort your inventory and keep your storage organized. All Copper Golems spawn with a copper chest you can break and pick up to learn the recipe. These chests are special because Copper Golems open and interact with them.
The way their organization system works is that they'll open Copper Chests, grab what's inside, and carry it over to other chests around your base. They organize everything into concise stacks and keep things where you want them to be.
What do copper chests do in Minecraft?
Copper chests function exactly the same as regular ones, except Copper Golems will freely grab from them to sort the items inside elsewhere. If you don't want this mob to interact with them, you'll need to store them away somewhere they can't reach. Otherwise, all Copper Golems will continuously clear them out to put them in the regular chests you have around.
![]()
Is the Copper Golem in Minecraft?
At the time of writing, the Copper Golem can only be spawned in Bedrock preview versions of Minecraft and is slated to officially be added in the Fall 2025 update. It will be available to test in Java snapshot versions of Minecraft soon, too. We'll update this guide once they're officially available in the regular version of the game, but for now, you have to play with experimental versions to meet them.
If you're looking to try out other newer gameplay mechanics next, there are plenty to choose from. You may want to try turning on Vibrant Visuals, using the player locator bar, riding a Happy Ghast, and defeating the Creaking.

As part of Pokémon Go's 9th anniversary celebration, trainers have a few days to try and find a Shiny Gimmighoul in its roaming form for the first time, if you are lucky enough to find one.
To even get a Gimmighoul to appear, you must also own a copy of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and link Pokémon Go to it daily to be able to access the Gold Bag, which, when used, spawns Gimmighoul's for 30 minutes. You get more spawns if you are walking while using it, around 30+ each time, whereas if you're standing still, you'll get a new spawn every five minutes.
Some trainers have been incredibly lucky in finding the new Shiny Pokémon, whereas others haven't been able to see one over multiple days. So what exactly as the odds of finding this elusive Pokémon?
What are the odds of finding a Shiny Gimmighoul in Pokémon Go?
Shiny Gimmighoul's official Shiny rate odds haven't been confirmed by Scopely, but trainers are convinced it's the same odds as finding a Shiny Meltan. This would make the odds around a 1 in 125 chance of finding a Shiny Gimmighoul when opened from the Gold Bag.
Both the 9th Anniversary Gimmighoul and the normal Gimmighoul can be found as a Shiny Pokémon with this method, but you can't evolve the 9th Anniversary Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, so depending on whether you are trying to get a Shiny Gimmighoul or want the Shiny Gholdengo, you need to pray that luck is on your side if you eventually find one.
After the 9th anniversary event ends on July 7, 2025, you won't be able to find Shiny Gimmighoul again until Scopely decides to add it back sometime in the future, so make the most of the time you have to try and find one before it is too late.
