Everyone at PCGamesN adores a good action RPG. While I love the ancient mythology that imbues Titan Quest, my colleague Ken is also obsessed with the build variety in games like Path of Exile 2 and Diablo. The genre is so diverse these days that you can find anything you want, and Vaultbreakers is no exception. With a new playtest running for the fantasy ARPG right now, you can even give it a try for yourself. The future of the game is looking bright, too, as Final Fantasy studio Square Enix is now backing it.

July 5, 2025: We're looking for new Steal a Brainrot codes for the Candy Mutation update.

What are the latest Steal a Brainrot codes? Taking clear cues from Grow a Garden, this new Roblox experience dismisses the idea of patience, perseverance, and the rewards that follow, and instead, you steal the hard work of others. It's poetic in a way. So much so that we're not sure what to make of it. But freebies are freebies, and that's what Steal a Brainrot game codes are good for.

But players are loving it. While it's far from meeting the lofty concurrent player goals of its inspiration, like Grow a Garden codes or Blox Fruits codes, it's putting Brainrot Evolution codes on high alert. Already certain it's not the one for you? Consider trying out Blue Lock Rivals codes instead. That's a Roblox game with an idea that copycats are struggling to replicate.

Over 30 years after Lemmings first sent unfathomable numbers of anthropomorphized rodents off of various cliffs, the groundbreaking puzzle-strategy game's influence is still strongly felt today. Nintendo, in particular, went through a spell of dishing out 'Lemminglikes' with the Mario vs Donkey Kong Minis series, alongside the poyo-powered Kirby Mass Attack. More recently, games like Mankind have set out to harness some of that mass-extinction magic. Now, Ariano Games is trying its hand at innovating on the timeless formula, paying homage to the pioneering strategy series while infusing it with resource-based puzzles influenced by the classic 90s city builder, The Settlers. Having spent a power hour with Craftlings at publisher Raw Fury's Stockholm office, my singular brain cell has been left battered, bruised, and baying for more.

The premise of Craftlings is simple. The eponymous tribe sets out to sea in search of a home to call its own. However, the upcoming PC game's episodic mission structure has them scuppered by a new big bad at every turn. It's a bit like One Piece, albeit more dumb-dumb than gum-gum. The first mission I played, which saw my ship ensnared by a giant squid, serves as the game's tutorial, giving me ample space to get to grips with some of its core constructive (and destructive) systems.

Split Fiction Fills a Gap on the Switch 2

Split Fiction ended up being a critical darling from the It Takes Two and A Way Out developer Hazelight Studios when it debuted early in 2025, and it made its Nintendo debut when the Switch launched on June 5, 2025. It's enjoyable on every platform. Clearly, it's a win for everyone with the new system. After multiple sessions playing it, it's a fine showcase title for the system to highlight the power of the system, online capabilities, and GameChat functionality.

That Split Fiction works on the Switch 2 is impressive. It's a constant split-screen multiplayer title that could be taxing due to the level of activity on-screen at once, the detailed environments, and potential constant online interaction. The original Switch wouldn't have done it justice on its own. But here we are, with consistent frame rates and solid performance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXQ7sjNV35k

I found myself impressed with the online capabilities of Split Fiction on the Switch 2 too. Connecting to another person happens rather swiftly. There are frequent save points, which help with tricky encounters or an unfortunate incident when online falters. The experience felt quite stable the majority of the time, with no noticeable lag. I even tried it in Handheld mode, so I wasn't relying on the power of the game when docked and, while that does make the on-screen images even smaller, it still worked perfectly.

Split Fiction is a fantastic example of showing how well the Switch 2 GameChat feature can work too. This is a game which involves a lot of communication between players. You need to constantly touch base with one another to find solutions, work out timing for actions, and cooperate to both successfully complete objectives. Like one boss might require one person to snatch the weapon away, then the other to grab that weapon to attack. Or people might need to throw switches to work out timing so both can progress. The way the system isolates the player's voices to ensure they are crisp and easily heard, then handles chat so there are no disruptions and no lag so you're constantly in perfect sync with one another.

There are a few things I'm not a fan of in Split Fiction on the Switch 2. The first is that needing to make an EA account to play online, even if you're not going with cross-play and both people own the game on the system, is frustrating. I get the need in certain situations and at least it is a one-and-done setup situation.

Another issue is that service interruptions seem pretty frequent. In one session that lasted about three hours, this happened twice. Both of us had stable internet connections. The situations weren't dire in-game. But all of a sudden everything cut out. GameChat wasn't affected, so it wasn't on Nintendo's end. At least we were immediately to jump in almost exactly where we left off each time, thanks to the save system and opportunities that let us hop right into our roles again.

Split Fiction really feels like it prioritizes that one-on-one, working together experience that can be so enjoyable on consoles, and putting it on the Switch 2 shows how capable this new console is. It's capable of something impossible on the original Switch! It's utilizing GameChat in a really helpful way! It's giving us a chance to accomplish goals together in a challenging environment that still doesn't feel too punishing. It's a strong game to help bolster a solid launch library

Split Fiction is available for the Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

A US army Marine standing in a flaming city in COD WW2.

As soon as it launched on Game Pass, Call of Duty: WW2 was beset by hacking problems, most notably those concerning RCE exploits that allowed hackers to take control of others' PCs. The game has since been taken offline, with Activision not acknowledging the "issue" at hand.

Activision, by way of the official Call of Duty Updates page on X, announced on July 5 that CoD: WW2 would be going offline as developers investigate "reports an issue." This particularly affects the Microsoft Store (Game Pass) version of the game, which appears to be the most affected.

Nothing in this announcement acknowledges what that issue is, but we all know full well it's the RCE (remote code execution) exploit that has been plaguing the game ever since it dropped on Game Pass. This exploit allows hackers to, as the name implies, execute malicious code remotely on others' PCs so long as they are connected to the same server.

In some instances of these exploits, all it takes is for a player to be connected to the game itself, though whether or not it was that extreme is still unclear.

Notepad opened during a game of COD WW2 via hacks.
Players saw Notepads and CMD prompts open up while they were playing, with the hacker poking fun at them. Image via Drivnn/X

As reported by Insider Gaming on July 2, players have been expressing concerns over potential RCE exploits in the game within days of its launching on Game Pass. The report claims that these exploits were allegedly in the game prior to its addition to Xbox's subscription service.

Some older CoD titles, such as Modern Warfare 2 and others, also suffer from RCE exploits. I was personally at the receiving end some years ago, and all I can say is that it's by no means a fun experience. What's worse, Activision continues to sell all of these games at full price on platforms like Steam, and I strongly advise that you do not play them online or via official servers.

All these games share the same pre-MW2019 engine, which could explain why they're all suffering from the same RCE problem.

Games like all three Dark Souls titles and others also had RCE issues that took years to resolve, but Activision's relatively quick action might indicate stronger dedication. After all, it's a big title on the Game Pass, and it'd be a significant blow if it had to be taken off the platform not even a week after its inclusion.

Image of the exterior of the Microsoft HQ in Redmond, Washington.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, a new report indicates that Microsoft's recent push to cut over 9,000 employees (or about four percent of its entire workforce) came about because the company needs more money to invest into AI.

According to a report by the Seattle Times, Microsoft is "looking to trim costs where it can" so it could continue to pour money into AI infrastructure, the costs of which have been on a steady rise as the technology becomes more widespread. The report also states that this does not necessarily mean Microsoft is replacing its workers with AI, but I find it hard to believe that that motive isn't hidden somewhere between the lines.

Microsoft, per the report, is aiming to spend over $80 billion "to meet AI demands," which is a stark $25 billion increase over the previous year.

Xbox image
Image via Microsoft / Xbox

If it were just Microsoft doing the usual business by cutting yearly costs at a corporate level, no one in gaming would really care. After all, for a company employing hundreds of thousands, expenses can rack up quite quickly. However, the cuts significantly impacted Microsoft's gaming division headed by Xbox, where the company invested tens of billions acquiring massive studios and publishers as well as spent years getting all the necessary licenses and approvals to avoid accusations of monopolization, all in service of AI.

Many studios were closed, and hyped-up announced games were canceled, to the great dismay of gamers and particularly Game Pass users. Microsoft's whole schtick with acquisitions was to expand its first-party offerings on day one via Game Pass, the future potential of which has now significantly shrunk so Microsoft can continue developing tools to reduce human input in art and technology.

After all, there is nothing more important in this day and age than artificial mass production, and if it is video game artists who are to be sacrificed to achieve it, then so be it.

Snacko gameplay image

Hello again, Destructoid. As part of a new series, I'm here to talk about some of my favorite cozy games from the past few years while hearing about some of your favorites. Today, I'm highlighting an adorable feline adventure, Snacko.

I first started playing Snacko during its early access period last year. I'd just bought a few gifts for friends during the holidays and decided to treat myself to a couple of games. After a quick wishlist search, I remembered Snacko being on my list and quickly bought it during a sale. Over 20 hours later, I've just barely scratched the surface.

Snacko intro scene
Screenshot by Destructoid

Snacko is a cozy adventure game where you, a talking cat, have one objective: rebuild an island's settlement into a bustling town full of villagers. You have many ways to do this, from farming crops to earn money to exploring mineshafts and mining for building materials. You'll even progress your playthrough through various puzzles in different dimensions. It's a lot, but that's what makes it fun. Plus, well, you're a cat, so you'll find more than a couple of feline puns that'll make you crack a smile.

This was my go-to relaxation game during last year's holiday season. If life got stressful or I found some free time during the weekend, I hopped on Snacko for a couple of hours and worked through some quests. I didn't quite complete its story, but I knew I had to one day.

Snacko plushie
Screenshot by Destructoid

And then, its 1.0 version came out. I had Snacko on my mind occasionally, but once I heard about its full release this past May, I was suddenly more excited than ever to play. I already enjoyed the game, but with a revamped mine system, magic, and a bunch of quality-of-life changes available, it was about to become even more fun. Right away, I celebrated by starting up a new save.

Although I haven't quite caught up to where I was before, I'm enjoying it all the same and am reminded all over again of why I enjoy these casual games so much. Since then, I've gotten a little distracted by other games, but this is definitely one I'll be returning to soon.

What relaxing games have you been playing recently during your spare time? Are you more of a farming sim person, or do you like to test your knowledge with complex yet satisfying puzzle games? Let us know in the comments below!

The best games to play with a podcast

Slay the Spire is one of the most popular and best deckbuilder games out there and among the best roguelikes as well.

It is a challenging game, and sometimes you just need that helping hand. Or, perhaps, something has gone awry, and you want to quickly fix it. Here is how you can access the Slay the Spire console and use commands to boost yourself or troubleshoot potential issues.

Prerequisite: ModTheSpire and BaseMod

Before we can get into the console command list, we will have to gain access to the console itself. It is not in the game by default and requires third-party mods to be installed. Keep in mind that this only works for the Steam version of the game. Workarounds for Game Pass users might crop up at some point in time, but as things stand, Slay the Spire's Steam version is the only moddable one.

So, here is what you need to do to get the console in Slay the Spire:

  • Go to the game's Steam Workshop page.
  • Under Most Subscribed, find ModTheSpire and BaseMod.
  • Subscribe to both mods and wait for the download to finish.
  • Go to Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/646570.
  • From the first folder, copy the ModTheSpire.jar file into Steam/steamapps/common/SlayTheSpire.
  • Delete the mts-launcher.jar file and then give ModTheSpire.jar its name.
  • Run Slay the Spire from Steam and select Play with Mods.
  • After it launches, close it.
  • Go back to Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/646570, and copy BaseMod.jar from the second folder and paste it into Steam/steamapps/common/SlayTheSpire/mods.
  • Relaunch Slay the Spire in the same manner, check that BaseMod is enabled, and press Play.
  • Once in the game, go to Mods in the main menu, then BaseMod, and then Enable developer console.

And you should be able to play the game with the console enabled. Keep in mind that installing any mod will involve removing its file from the workshop folder and placing it into the mods folder in the game's installation directory, managed by ModTheSpire.

All Slay the Spire console commands

Once you've got the console up and running, these are the built-in commands added by the mod itself:

  • deck add [id] [number of cards] [upgrades]
  • deck remove [id]
  • deck remove all
  • draw [number]
  • energy add [amount]
  • energy inf
  • energy remove [amount]
  • hand add [id] [number of cards] [upgrades]
  • hand remove all
  • hand remove [id]
  • kill all
  • kill self
  • power [id] [amount]
  • fight [name]
  • event [name]
  • gold add [amount]
  • gold lose [amount]
