Warhammer fans across the world are celebrating the surprise news that a new Dawn of War instalment is on the way. What's even more exciting is the fact that developer King Art is going back to the series' RTS roots. After Dawn of War 2 lowered the stakes to small squads and the third instalment attempted some kind of ill-fated MOBA, I couldn't be happier that Dawn of War 4 will return to the original formula. I sat down with creative director Jan Theysen and senior game designer Elliott Verbiest to find out more about the game and its inspirations.

World of Warcraft Midnight is shaping up to be a strong successor to The War Within. It might not be at the heights it once was, but the Blizzard MMORPG is certainly in a better place than it has been in recent years, and WoW Midnight is looking to build on that well. We've got interesting story beats, the playable Haranir race, a new 'prey system' that will see us hunting down powerful and dangerous marks across the world, and of course the long-awaited arrival of player housing. But a new interview also teases the potential return of one of WoW's most iconic, memorable, and ultimately divisive characters: Sylvanas.

Choreographing the rapid-fire blows of combat in a game can be a delicate business. Think the 'tough but fair' ethos of Dark Souls that's encouraged masochists to slug it out within the game's decaying ruins, or the barely perceptible increase in reload time for Halo 3's sniper rifle from 0.5 to 0.7 seconds – a tweak that Bungie implemented to prevent the weapon from dominating matches. Such considerations enable developers to craft satisfyingly visceral fights without being too frustrating; to impart the adrenaline of combat without reducing wins to hollow victories.

August 23, 2025 - Added additional context.

A new, free Assassin's Creed Mirage DLC will deliver an extra story chapter to Ubisoft's 2023 action-adventure game "later this year." The mini-expansion accompanies the tale of Basim Ibn Ishaq's adventures in ninth-century Baghdad with a trip to AlUla, Saudi Arabia. Ubisoft additionally promises gameplay improvements for the new locale, along with an update to the existing map, all of which will be available as a free download.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven Switch 2 Does Feel Different

As part of the Nintendo Partner Showcase Direct at the end of July 2025, Square Enix revealed a Switch 2 Upgrade Pack to a console-specific edition of 2024's Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven remake. It's $9.99, which isn't uncommon for these types of updates. However, the big change here is that I suspect the Switch 2 version would feel more on par with playing the JRPG on the PS5 or PC when compared to the original release. As someone who primarily plays any and every Switch or Switch 2 game in handheld mode, it means I did notice a difference with Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven.

The most obvious change in Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven Switch 2 Edition compared to the original Nintendo release is the general appearance. As part of the announcement, Square Enix confirmed this bumps handheld mode up to 1080p and docked to 1440p. While the textures for environments get a big glow-up here, the characters and major opponents also look noticeably better. The best way to tell is to look at intricate details on characters. Their hair, jewelry, fringe on costumes, their facial expressions, and even the way fabrics move show the improved resolutions in action. Basically, it's getting the game on par with the PS5 and PC versions.

There's also a framerate adjustment, which I feel like is quite visible based on your actions. It goes from 30fps to up to 60fps. Watching someone walk, run, and jump is much more smooth and natural. However, it's also a boon for the attack animations. It makes assaults seem more impressive and natural. I also found it is quite a stable 60fps. I loaded multiple save files during the story and started a new file, and in each instance it ran consistently. Even in spaces with a lot of enemies moving around, it held up. Again, 60fps is basically the standard for the PS5 and PC versions, so we're seeing Square Enix get it up to par across multiple platforms.

But the biggest change came to loading. See, loading time is an issue I wasn't really expecting to see "fixed" in Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven Switch 2 Edition, mainly because I didn't really consider it too much of a problem in the original Switch release. However, it's a big difference and cuts down loading times by at least half. I found it comes up most often when first starting the game or loading up a saved file. When doing so on my original Switch, it would take about 30 seconds. With the upgrade patch, I'd say it was at or under 10 seconds each time. The transition between getting into and out of battle is shortened as well, but that was already so quick that it's now barely noticeable.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven Switch 2 Edition does feel like it makes a difference to an already well done remake. It comes across as being more similar to the PS5 and PC versions we already saw. The increased, stable 60fps rate and higher resolutions definitely do the experience some favorites. The reduced loading times are also a pleasant surprise, though it's most noticeable when you're just getting into a game. Someone with an existing copy might want to considering the upgrade patch for a new playthrough, while someone new to the system and console may want to just go with this version instead.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is available on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, and PC.
