The style and the strategy are important, and the campy FMV lives forever in my heart, but the units are what make Command and Conquer one of the most memorable series in PC gaming history. Each recruitment feels personal and full of character, whether it be NOD Stealth Tanks appearing out of thin air, Tanya and her devastating C4, the white-hot zaps of Prism Tanks, or the terrifying Shogun Executioner of Red Alert 3. In lieu of a new CnC game, indie newcomer DORF is shaping up to be a worthwhile spiritual successor, and a fresh look at some of its infantry units proves that more than ever.

While I admire Factorio, for me, Satisfactory is the champion of the automation genre, and I will always have a soft spot for it. I fell in love with it quickly once I picked it up in early access, and I actually upgraded my PC so that it could better run the game with a huge uncoordinated factory setup in my 100-hour save. It hooks you in with a simple premise, and you'll find yourself working on more complex automations. If you want to see why it's so engaging, you can grab Satisfactory for its lowest price since 1.0.

The Riftbreaker wasn't originally supposed to be a co-op game. Its slick fusion of ARPG combat and Factorio-brand base building feels perfectly suited to work with friends, however, and so the feature quickly became an incredibly popular request from players. Now, almost four years after the indie game first launched, developer Exor Studios has delivered exactly that as part of a major 2.0 update. That's not all, however; there's a massive campaign expansion and plenty of gameplay improvements included as well, and to top it all off you can snag the game at less than half price on Steam.

Kunon the Sorcerer Can See Exemplifies Ingenuity

Yet another manga and light novel series handled by Yen Press and turned into an anime is Kunon the Sorcerer Can See. It's picked up the series ahead of that debut. It's also one of those stories about hard work, determination, and passion driving a character forward. As the title suggests, its hero is someone who finds himself blind from birth, and so decides to study magic to ensure he and others can see with spells.

Editor's Note: There are some mild spoilers for the first volume of the Kunon the Sorcerer Can See manga below.

Kunon Gurion inherited his blindness, but not in the way we would normally expect. In the series' world, anyone who is descended from a hero might find a part of them missing. In his case, he can't see because way back in his bloodline, a hero existed. While people around him offer him status, opportunities to marry into the royal family via his fiance Princess Mirika Hughlia, and special treatment due to that chance circumstance, all he wants is to be able to see his loved ones. When a water crest sigil is discovered on his body, his "luck" increases further, as it means he would be able to use magic. When a tutor offhandedly mentions a water bubble he made is about the size of an eyeball, he realizes that maybe he could use this new ability to give him the ability to see.

Instead of this being a story where Kunon is magically gifted and immediately able to accomplish his goals, Kunon the Sorcerer Can See manga shows how his hard work gradually means he makes steps toward his goal. This is a fantasy, so it wouldn't need to be realistic. However, it is. It's practical. We see him first learning a most simple and rudimentary water spell that involves creating a sphere. But Kunon is a seven-year-old who's been largely sheltered. His stamina isn't there, so we see how it starts by him just building up the strength to master that basic version of that spell.

We also see how Kunon's progress means he gradually gets closer to his goal, while also perhaps understanding how he could develop the skills he needs. After learning A-ori and developing those water orbs, he learns how to specialize them to do things like affect properties or even create a rainbow. Then when he does start to develop the ability to sense, we see it starts small by discerning possible colors. So much so that initially is seems like a sensation, but improves given the degree of contact.

Said progression is also great since we can see how getting the chance to do things for himself, rather than be coddles, and learning to music helps him grow as a person. As the Kunon the Sorcerer Can See manga starts, he's quite depressed. He's thrust into situations because of the "honor" of being a visibly marked descendant, then due to possessing a crest. But actually learning and using magic grants him these new opportunities. He can be more independent. He becomes stronger. He "falls in love" with magic as he learns to use it. Even his arranged marriage fiance, Mirika, immediately notices how this causes both a physical and internal change. It also seems his relationships with people around him other than her, like his tutor, develop further because of his now opening up.

The first volume of the Kunon the Sorcerer Can See manga shows how strong this young man can be, and the progress he can make when he gets the chance to be himself and put forth effort. While he does seem adept and clearly people in-world are going to refer to him as a prodigy, those of us reading get to see his hard work. We watch the effort he puts in and the passion he develops for magic. It also means a possible opportunity that gives him what he wants, but perhaps could help others who might choose to use it down the road.

Volume 1 of the Kunon the Sorcerer Can See manga is available now, and Yen Press hasn't said when we'll see volume 2 yet. The company also handled the light novel. An anime is in development.

The Bourrasque in World of Tanks

World of Tanks 2.0 update is coming to NA, EU, and APAC servers at the start of September, and everyone can get incredible rewards for playing the game.

Whether you're a beginner or a veteran, 2.0 will be the best time to start or return to the game. Wargaming has announced the rewards campaign for all players, and they're, quite literally, the "biggest gift in the history" of World of Tanks.

All players will get plenty of new resources throughout the update, and they're guaranteed at least one full tank tech tree for free.

All World of Tanks 2.0 update rewards

The update rewards vary slightly based on whether you'll start fresh after the World of Tanks 2.0 update or use an older account.

Seasoned Commander rewards (Accounts created before the 2.0 update)

  • One Tech Tree (any vehicle branch from Tiers VI to X).
  • 10,000,000 credits
  • 15,000 bonds
  • 2,500 gold
  • 50 crew retraining orders

New Commander's rewards (accounts created after the 2.0 update)

  • Two Tech Trees (any vehicle branch from Tiers VI to X)
  • 6,000,000 credits
  • Tiger 131
  • Skoda T 40
  • Type 64
  • IS-2 Shielded
  • Rental: 122 TM
  • Rental: XM66F
  • Rental: UDES 03 3
  • Rental: E77
  • Standard equipment bundle (Gun Rammer, Improved Hardening, Improved Ventilation, and Coated Options, Class 1 and 2 each)

These rewards will be available after the 2.0 update drops, and you have to log in to the game before the mid-October update goes live. If you're late by a few weeks, worry not; your entitled rewards will await you.

https://youtu.be/cXZMdye8WFQ

If you don't want to waste time, our World of Tanks 2.0 update countdown will help you stay on top with the release timings.

Whether you're an older player or someone new, more rewards are available.

  • 30 days of Premium Account (30 additional days can be gained with the help of simple battle missions).
  • 30 x5 XP missions (30 additional ones from Battle Missions)
  • 30 x3 Crew XP missions (30 additional ones from Battle Missions)
  • 5 Universal Manuals
  • 2D style: New Era
  • Medal: I was There for 2.0

Players who have already researched all their tech trees will be eligible for an exclusive badge, medal, and title to boast their collection. These exclusive items will be added permanently to the game in the future.

Which tank tech tree should you pick in World of Tanks 2.0?

The exact answer will have to wait till the launch of World of Tanks 2.0, since more than 100 vehicles have undergone buffs to power them up. However, I will certainly recommend the following tank tech trees. If you're a veteran, your choices could vary depending on the endgame modes and the meta involved.

  • E100 (Germany Heavy Tank): Absolutely amazing tank with the recent buffs, and offers the two Tigers at Tier VII and Tier VIII. Can't go wrong if you love the heavies.
  • Grille 15 (German Tank Destroyer): Despite the random shots, the Grille 15 is one of the best tank destroyers you can have inside the game.
  • Obj 261 (USSR SPG): This is one of the best tech tree lines of artillery to unlock. This could be a good choice if you love to rain hell on top of enemies.
  • Canopener (UK Heavy Tank): Not only is this tank one of the best Tier X heavies in the game, but the tech tree line has never been discounted.

Once the update goes live, I expect significant changes to the meta, and there will be updates to this list.

LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and other superstars in NBA 2K26

LeBron James has been my favorite baller of all time, and there are some terrific builds you can model after him in NBA 2K26's MyCareer.

Any LeBron James build has several strengths that are suitable for beginners and veterans. His builds are pretty well-balanced, shining in both offensive and defensive departments. Here's one of the builds that I have been trying out in early access, and it's certainly getting me the results.

Best LeBron James build for NBA 2K26 MyCareer mode

The LeBron James template is simply not good enough. It's a good starting point for beginners, but has its limitations. The base Steal rating is awful and doesn't do him any justice. Instead, this is a build that I have been fine-tuning in the first couple of days, making my character feel and play like prime LeBron on the court.

  • Position: Small Forward
  • Height: 6'8"
  • Weight: 237 lbs
  • Wingspan: 7'1"

LeBron certainly has the height to play as a PF, but I opted for a position that suited him the best in real life. I have increased the height by an inch from the template to take advantage of certain badges and bypass their requirements. The wingspan isn't a strong point of this build, but it won't prevent you from dominating on the court.

Custom LeBron James build in NBA 2K26
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Close Shot: 74
  • Driving Layup: 80
  • Driving Dunk: 94
  • Standing Dunk: 54
  • Post Control: 51
  • Mid-Range Shot: 73
  • Three-Point Shot: 83
  • Free Throw: 77
  • Pass Accuracy: 85
  • Ball Handle: 86
  • Speed With Ball: 75
  • Interior Defense: 61
  • Perimeter Defense: 74
  • Steal: 59
  • Block: 78
  • Offensive Rebound: 85
  • Defensive Rebound: 70
  • Speed: 85
  • Agility: 77
  • Strength: 73
  • Vertical: 85

This build is much more balanced in offense and defense, compared to the template. While your primary role is to score baskets, I have boosted the base Steal and Interior Defense rating. In offense, your primary way of scoring baskets is via layups. More specifically, the default build will have 94 Driving Dunk, but you can take it to Hall of Fame levels with Cap Breakers as you earn them.

The higher Free Throw rating nullifies the relatively mediocre Mid-Range Shot stats. However, the former is important for you to score consistently in The Park games. The same applies to the Steal rating; you could reduce it slightly to buff up the Interior Defense if you want to do so.

Offensive Rebound is more expensive to buff up, which is why I have sacrificed Defensive Rebound for the base build. To take advantage of the game engine changes of NBA 2K26, I have opted for 85 Speed so that you feel fast and agile with the ball. Your created player will have the Aerial Playmaker archetype, which plays extremely strong in the current meta.

Side shot of Jimmy Hall holding a bat at the front desk in At Dead of Night

You've arrived at the Sea View Hotel long after your friends have checked in. It's awfully quiet, yet there's a sense of something else in the air. It's as if you're being watched. The walls feel more claustrophobic than usual.

But what sets the alarm bells off in your head is that strange hotel owner, Jimmy Hall. Your instincts were correct. Your friends have been tied up and locked in rooms scattered around the hotel—and you're next. It's not your job to save them, not yet anyway.

It's the middle of the night and phone lines are down. A curious device pulls you towards it. A spirit box. The ghosts from Jimmy's past are eager to tell you their side of the story. Just what happened at the Sea View Hotel and who exactly is Jimmy Hall—or the Great Hugo Punch he's so obsessed with? If you want to find the truth and make it out of here alive, you must quickly learn the layout of this hotel and use the tools at your disposal to uncover the past and save your future.

Lobby shot of Sea View Hotel in At Dead of Night

This is At Dead of Night, a horror FMV game that blends realistic graphics with live-action cutscenes. Jimmy roams the corridors in constant pursuit of Maya, the story's protagonist. Finally playing as a lead who doesn't crumble under the pressure, Maya must juggle many sets of keys, a spirit box to converse with the ghosts haunting the hotel, and refer to a scrying mirror to help her figure out what to do next.

A surprisingly unnerving title, At Dead of Night creates tension through its claustrophobic setting and panic-inducing gameplay. Most paths lead to dead ends following winding corridors, leading further and further from the temporary sanctuary of the hotel's elevator. Jimmy's clever coding means he's lurking either on the first or second floor, peeking into hotel rooms or hiding around corners, just waiting for you to make a mistake. He can even trick you into a false sense of comfort, pretending to be further away than he actually is.

Sure, you could try to lock him into a room so long as you have the key to it, but do you dare try such a risky play? You've got to look out for any moving shadows, listen to his shouts and work out where he is before you leave a room, and hide if the doorknob in front of you starts rattling. The peephole acts as your main way of telling where Jimmy is, as you can spot him walking past, or call out to lure him to you. Stay in well-lit rooms for hiding spots and refer to the scrying mirror whenever you get stuck, for any hesitation will only delay the inevitable. You must complete each ghost's story if you ever want to save your friends and escape the hotel.

The Spirit Box in At Dead of Night

At Dead of Night peaks relatively early on with its mystery and compact narrative, where you first learn what happened to the young girl, Amy. Every ghost is linked directly to Jimmy and acts as evidence Maya needs to put him away for life. Exploring the hotel floors and its rooms lets you gather clues you can ask the ghosts about. Finding links between what a ghost has said and the evidence you've gathered pushes the narrative along, but you mustn't ever forget about Jimmy's presence.

The main reason to try this title out is for the stressful environment provided by the constantly pursuing stalker villain. I felt the continual urge to hide away in the safe areas of the ground floor and basement, free from Jimmy's grasp. Running down the corridors felt like the right move to make because you can't achieve much by staying still. But Jimmy might leap out from around the corner or peek from afar, making sure you don't reach the elevator before him. Trust your instincts and move only when you know it's safe.

Blurry Jimmy jumpscare in At Dead of Night

Maya suffers from severe head trauma (thanks to Jimmy's baseball bat) if you're ever caught and dragged away. Yet she picks herself up, dusts herself off to try again, and searches for the spirit box and items from the storerooms. Thankfully, At Dead of Night isn't too punishing if you ever fail, but no one wants to get grabbed by Jimmy Hall. You must remember which keys you have, which rooms are dark, which corridors lead to dead ends, and where Jimmy is at all times. It's a lot to think about all at once, but the game kindly offers hints on where you're supposed to go next if you ever get stuck.

So, do you dare check in at the Sea View Hotel? At Dead of Night is available on Steam. Jimmy will see you there.

Gabe Newell on his yacht, speaking on the phone.

Lord Gaben's mercy is again requested by a weary publisher, who is eager to bring its games into Valve's digital store. This time, it's Escape From Tarkov, a game which previously only ran within its own client. The release date is TBA, but at least we know it's coming.

After previously teasing a potential Steam release, Tarkov developer and Battlestate Games chief Nikita Buyanov confirmed via X that the popular (and controversial) extraction shooter is coming to Gabe's virtual kingdom. Buyanov did not specify a release date, but since Tarkov is getting its 1.0 release on Nov. 15, it could possibly coincide with that date. Nothing is certain yet, however, but it's good to know the game is finally moving to a more approachable storefront.

The USP 45 Classic sidearm in Escape from Tarkov.
Escape From Tarkov is a realistic, gritty, first-person extraction shooter with perma-death. Image via BSG

Escape From Tarkov could previously only be purchased and played via the game's own client, much akin to many games from several years back. Eastern European live-service games in particular had a knack for running their own clients and servers, with the likes of World of Tanks, War Thunder, and others doing the same. However, much like their Western colleagues, everyone slowly crept back to Steam one way or another, with Battlestate Games following suit.

Escape From Tarkov is a popular, and controversial, extraction shooter which contributed significantly to the popularization of this shooter subgenre. Players are put on a massive map for a "raid," and must combat each other and NPCs to reach the extraction point and leave with hard-earned loot. Any and all equipment can be lost if your character dies, with perma-death systems put in place to ensure that character is gone for good.

It's getting its full release on Nov. 15, which should expand what's already a pretty big package.

LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and other superstars in NBA 2K26

Learning to calling for Screens and setting them properly in NBA 2K26 might be one of the most important ways of cracking open the opposition's defense.

When you're playing against the AI at higher difficulty or against a human opponent, they won't let you waltz on the court. Someone with a better understanding of their defense will leave you little room to move. To open an unexpected space, the key is to call for a screen and then provide him with the required information to make the most out of the move.

How to call for a Screen in NBA 2K26?

There are two ways to call for a Screen while constructing an attack in NBA 2K26.

  • If you want to call a specific player as a Screen, press the L1/LB button once. Your four primary controls will represent the other four stars on your side. Select the relevant icon for the player you want to call on your Screen.
  • Hold the L1/LB button to automatically call the nearest player to your ball-carrier as a Screen. You can then press the R1/RB to perform a roll or a fade. You can also use the LS button to change their sides.

Between the two methods, the second one is undoubtedly the one that suits beginners more. However, the first method is the one you'll want to master in the long run. If you wish for your Screen to take throws, select players who are good at 3-PT shots. Similarly, you can use your PF/C to ask them for a Roll and run close to the rim for a possible layup/dunk.

How to set a Screen in NBA 2K26?

You can also use one of your teammates to set them up as a screen while moving the ball.

  • If you want to set the regular Screen, just hold the Circle/B button. You can use your LS to control the direction of your Screen.
  • Tap the Circle/B button once to go for a quick variant instead. In the case of a Quick Screen, you can't control the direction.
