Base-building is a tried-and-true element of strategy games. Constructing your base from a small enclave to a massive stronghold is such a foundational pleasure of video games that it has become its own subgenre. Ground of Aces is an intensive and detailed entry in that subgenre. The game tasks you with running an air force base during World War II. You'll fend off enemy attacks and build up your capabilities. It's still in early access, but the Scramble update has made Ground of Aces even more complex and chaotic.

Right now, the Cronos The New Dawn Steam Deck rating is still undecided, but an issue is currently preventing both AMD FSR and Intel XeSS from working properly, which is reportedly leaving very few options for running this new horror game at a smooth frame rate on the handheld.

The Steam Deck game rating system is one of the reasons why it sits atop our best handheld gaming PC buying guide. It's far from perfect, but it often gives great insight into what to expect from a game's performance on the deck before you buy it.

I'm not sure that any game needs annual instalments. From EA Sports FC to Call of Duty, the slight iterations each year struggle to justify their costs. Football Manager 26 proves my theory right, as we've waited two long years for the game, and it looks better than ever. The leap in graphical fidelity has coincided with an engine swap to Unity, and the stark difference shown in its new trailer feels like upgrading Darwin Nunez to Alexander Isak.

With the GPD Win 5 set to launch in just a few weeks, the company has now confirmed that three different configurations will be available when it goes on early release for its crowdfunding investors. The FM26 system requirements are finally out alongside a new gameplay tease, and they're exactly what we expected, which is going to come as bad news to many players. For the best experience, you're going to need an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 or better alongside 12GB of RAM, specs that may well eliminate the basic work laptops that so many players have relied on for previous games.

The good news is you won't need one of the more expensive options on our best graphics card buying guide to get Football Manager 26 running well. However, as I posited in my FM26 graphics feature a few weeks ago, the specs are more demanding than usual, so many more gamers than with previous iterations of the game will be left unable to play on their existing PCs and laptops. Even if this was a change that had been signalled by the FM25 system requirements, it's still a shame to see this hardware limitation come to fruition.

Which League of Legends skins are currently on sale in the store? LoL is a free-to-play game in the truest sense - you can enjoy everything the MOBA offers for absolutely nothing. Now, if you were to ask a seasoned League player if that were true, they'd probably have to stifle a few tears as they check how much their bank account has suffered buying skins since they started battling on the Rift.

Riot rotates a series of skins in the store, with the savviest of us holding out until the cosmetic they want ends up in the discount section of the store or even the League of Legends Mythic shop. The shiny new cosmetics are only available briefly, so act fast if you want to snag the new hotness. Here is every League of Legends skin on sale right now if you want to know what's in the store without booting up the client.

What's on sale in the League of Legends Mythic shop? New skins for LoL are released all the time, with a new event arriving on the Rift every few weeks, but what happens if you missed the boat with that awesome K/DA Evelynn skin, or if you've seen a Hextech skin in a game of Summoner's Rift and want to bag it for yourself?

The Mythic shop is a special storefront in the free PC game that stocks rare skins, wards, chromas, and Nexes finishers. These cosmetic items aren't available for real-world money, as they can only be purchased with Mythic Essence, so no more worrying about how much you've spent in League of Legends. The stock held in this store is rotated regularly, with some skins becoming unavailable for months, so it's best to keep up to date on what's on sale in the League of Legends Mythic store.

What are the Silksong bosses? Pharloom is teeming with bugs of all shapes and sizes, but some are undoubtedly creepier and crawlier than others. Like Hollow Knight before it, Silksong's combat is deceptively punishing, but we've got the boss strategies you need to beat all the main and optional bosses without losing all your masks.

Bosses are a staple of Metroidvania games, and we know that Hollow Knight Silksong will have its fair share of challenges for Hornet. According to Team Cherry, there are over 40 bosses to beat in Silksong, which isn't far off from the 47 bosses that appeared in Hollow Knight. On that basis, we expect Silksong to feature around 15 main bosses and at least 25 optional bosses to find and beat across the Hollow Knight Silksong map.

"Horror" and "automation" are concepts I'm used to seeing together in fiery/weepy essays about late capitalism. I'm less used to seeing them together in videogame marketing blurbs. Horror, in an automation-based game? Why, games with automation are supposed to deliver the finest and most methodical of chemical highs. They are supposed to feel like building yourself a better brain out of candy-coloured conveyor belts and smelters. They are not supposed to make you afraid.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Round1 Event in California Sells Out

Atlus announced it will celebrate the first anniversary of Metaphor: ReFantazio with an in-person event at a California Round1 location, and the event already "sold out." People in Burbank were able to call dibs on tickets at EventBrite, and they were almost immediately all claimed for the October 10, 2025 occasion. It does seem to only involve festivities and activities celebrating the title, with no announcements being made.

The Metaphor: ReFantazio Round1 event will last for five hours. People who head to the Burbank arcade will be able to experience a decorated space dedicated to the title. There will be photo ops with things like standees. For those who did manage to get a ticket to the affair, which starts at 7pm PT, there will be a few special activities. Three voice actors will be present for a "meet and greet." Greg Chun, who plays More from Akademeia, Alejandro "Gallica" Reynoso, and Caleb "Will" Yen will attend. People who got a ticket will also get a goodie bag.

There may be some opportunities for folks who didn't get tickets, but will be around Round1, to still take part in some of the Metaphor: ReFantazio events. Atlus also noted that there will be themed food and drinks sold by the arcade. There might also be opportunities to still take photos alongside the decorations or watch the game footage being shown.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Round1 anniversary event will run between 7pm-12am PT on October 10, 2025 in Burbank, California.

The Herta Honkai: Star Rail Nendoroid Comes With a Bonus Acrylic Stand

The next Honkai: Star Rail Nendoroid is drawing closer, and this time it will be The Herta with a possible acrylic stand bonus. The extra incentive only comes if someone gets it through the Japanese or US Good Smile Company storefronts. She costs ¥7,500/$51.99. She'll show up in March 2026 in Japan. We won't see her worldwide until Q3 2026. However, keep in mind did temporarily suspend US shipping.

Herta appears in two forms in the game. The first is the four-star variant, which is one of her doll bodies that appears on her space station from the start of the adventure. The Herta is a five-star version that debuted in 3.0. She's an Erudition character who deals Ice damage. The Nendoroid of her comes with her key-shaped staff, which she can also be posed riding on like a broom, her witch's hat, and extra parts to make it look like she is sitting. Her face plates show her with a blank, chibi expression, a smiling one, and one in which she is winking.

Here's how she looks:

As for the bonus acrylic stand, it shows official art of The Herta. It shows her potentially looking through a mirror, with her name below it.

Here's the sample photo Good Smile Company shared.

The last Honkai: Star Rail Nendoroid to appear before The Herta is Phainon. While his pre-orders opened first, the character actually debuted in the game after her.

The Honkai: Star Rail The Herta Nendoroid will appear in Japan in March 2026, with a worldwide release planned for Q3 2026. Pre-orders are open until October 15, 2025. The game is available on the PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

Build-a-Bear Opens Pokemon Litten Plush Bundle Sign-Ups cat stuffed animal

Another cat Pokemon plush is coming to Build-a-Bear, as the company opened a sign-up page for a Litten stuffed animal bundle. It is available on the official site, and someone can leave their email to be notified about its availability. That page also noted sales will start on September 18, 2025.

We don't know details about things like prize and extras yet. However, since this is a page for a bundle, we do have some ideas about what to expect from the Build-a-Bear Litten plush. The teaser image shows the cat Pokemon in a pajama style onesie that has Poke Balls on it and matches the red and oranges associated with Fire type characters. These bundles also tend to include a five-in-one sound chip with the characters' cries from the series.

Here's the first full teaser image:

This isn't the first time one of the cat Pokemon appeared as a plush at Build-a-Bear, as Sprigatito already joined the collection. It showed up back in July 2023, following the launch of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Like Litten, it came in a bundle with a matching onesie pajama that went along with its typing. To help give an idea of pricing, that stuffed animal bundle ended up costing $55/£43 when it first debuted and included the extra outfit and five-in-one sound chip.

We saw another character from the series show up at Build-a-Bear recently too. At the end of August 2025, Wooloo appeared. That also involved a bundle with accessories, though it included bows and a headband instead of an extra outfit.

Litten will join the Build-a-Bear Pokemon collection on September 18, 2025.

Mega Malamar May Be Being Teased for Pokemon Legends: Z-A

The official Pokemon YouTube channel shared a teaser video that suggests we could end up seeing Mega Malamar debut in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. A number of new Mega Evolutions are showing up in the spin-off game, following the reveal of Mega Dragonite. The "Malamar.mp4" video involves "real world" footage of people suddenly obsessing over the Dark and Psychic type character that first debuted in Pokemon X and Y

All of the "Malamar.mp4" footage involves people in the real world going crazy over the character, though the trailer began with a notice saying "not actual gameplay footage" and the Pokemon Legends: Z-A ESRB Everyone 10+ notice. First, there's a woman painting a mural of Malamar, calling it "sweet and adorable." Then, there's a celebrity being interviewed, with plush of the character everywhere. There are also viral segments, with everyone calling the character, "My friend Malamar." Given the character's dual typing, it perhaps suggests a Mega Evolution of Malamar in Pokemon Legends: Z-A could extend the creature's influence and range.

Here's the full "Malamar.mp4" trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac_I3IgArY0

In the last few weeks ahead of the Pokemon Legends: Z-A release, we've seen a few instances where Mega Evolutions, like a potential one for Malamar, came up via videos and social media. With Mega Victreebel, there was a hint at a "found footage" release that eventually showed in-game designs of the new character. Though when Mega Hawlucha came up, it was with a more traditional gameplay trailer.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A will come to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 16, 2025.

Exploration is key if you want to see everything there is in Cronos: The New Dawn. If you're not relying on the objective markers to get through this adventure, then make sure to leave no note unread, no stone unturned. Thankfully, ND-3576 remem bers everything you look at and pick up, so you don't need to worry about taking notes.

All codes in Cronos are either three to four digits long, meanwhile puzzles focus more on fetch quests that can and should be gradually completed as you're exploring a location in full. Puzzles can unlock new weapon variants, naturally progress the story, or introduce you to the next boss.

After defeating the first boss in Cronos, Traveler ND-3576 wakes inside Edward's messy apartment. There's a safe here which you have to unlock to get the target's location. The answer lies inside the bathroom, where a photograph of Angela shows the code (her birthday), written 8 1 1.

Enter the Loading Bay next to Hall B, defeat the standalone large Orphan in this area, and use Bolt Cutters on the door at the back of the Loading Bay. Enter the Warehouse and reach the upper floor to get the note with the code to the Hall (be wary of the Orphans in the viscera walls that will grab you). You can skip this section completely by entering 3 6 4 into the Hall B keypad.

You get this code after walking through Hall B. We recommend you avoid running, picking anything up, or shooting in this area so that the Orphans stay docile. Use the key from the Cauldron Control Room on the Warehouse door and reach the other side of this area to drop down and face two large Orphans that'll spawn in. Find the Locker Room to get the Isolation Zone code 7 2 9. Again, just input this code into the Isolation Zone to bypass the entire Quarantine Zone, bringing you one step closer to the Gravity Boots.

Director's Office

Location/save point: Unity Hospital

This is a difficult codes to get as multiple Orphans roam in this narrow corridor spawn near the Director's Office. Found in the Administration Wing, you need to be in the Office corridor on the opposite side to where you find the heart you need the toxin for. This is to the right of the Director's Office and near Weronika's Office. There's a wall of viscera you can duck under, but don't rush to it as a hardened Orphan bursts through the door just before it. The code is inside the room you need to use a Pyre through the hole in the wall to reach. Alternatively, just enter 9 5 0 9 into the Director's Office keypad to get inside. (THIS CODE IS NEEDED FOR CHALICE PUZZLE).

You need grab the Access Card from the Meeting Room in Administration. From here you can enter the Operating Theater next to Administration. Sprint down to the end of the corridor, evading the monsters that spawn here and interact with the knocked-over filing cabinet to avoid an unnecessary fight. You will find Bebola the cat and the Chalice behind her.

The second Chalice is inside the Director's Office of Administration. Use the code 9509 to get inside. Bring both items back to the Unity Hospital safe room and place on the altar. Make sure you have room to carry both as they're relatively near one another, that way you don't have to make multiple trips. Get the Chapel Backroom Key to unlock the Mace JER-5120 (double-barrel shotgun).

Location/save point: The Abbey

With three out of six Statuettes missing for the Church doors, you need to locate the rest of them in the tombs and back area of the Cemetery. Make sure you have space to pick them up or be able to dispose of any/all inside the safe room storage boxes when you're passing by one. The Child Statuette is located underneath the Angel statue inside the Catacombs that has gates (requires a lever from the safe room in this area to lift). Power up the generator in this room upstairs and prepare for conflict.

The Trident is at the furthest point within the Catacombs, near the ladder leading back to The Abbey safe room. The Sword is in the back area, accessible via The Abbey safe room. You need to first complete the Catacombs to then power the generator on the locked side of the safe room (get the Electrical Fuse off the fallen Traveler). Use the Gravity Boots to reach the final Statuette.

You can always refer to the white objective markers to take you to each Statuette.

Hornet standing next to where the first Mossberry is located in Silksong.

The Silkspear skill is one of the most essential abilities to learn in Hollow Knight Silksong if you want to proceed along the story, as it will help you clear those pesky cobwebs.

Based on how you proceed, this should be the first skill that you can unlock. It's relatively easy, but when you're starting, everything seems pretty complicated. If you're yet to find this unique ability, this guide will be your best friend by laying out all the steps.

Hollow Knight Silkspear skill location

You likely have already reached Bone Bottom after clearing out the first area and introducing yourself to the NPCs. Your next task will be to clear The Marrow and head towards Mosshome. On your way, you'll meet Shakra, who will be your first map merchant. Buy as many maps and a compass as are available with your Rosaries. If you're short, there's a cool farming guide we have.

  • Go past Shakra and move up. You'll enter an opening.
  • If you go right, you'll encounter the Bell Beast, who is locked behind the cobwebs.
  • Come back, and take the path to the left.
  • You'll come across certain humanoids. Avoid as many as you can, jump up on the steps, and dispatch one that stays high and spits acid.
  • Once cleared, you'll find a lever. Hit the lever to activate and then traverse upwards.
  • Keep going right, clear a few enemies, and pit traps that are pressure sensitive to your movements.
  • Jump up and go left to find an idol with which you can interact. This will unlock the Silkspear skill and activate it immediately. You'll also heal completely at this stage.

To make matters easier, reach the location where I am present in the screenshot. It's the same reason why purchasing the Mosshome map is crucial for you.

The Silkspear skill is activated by pressing your RB/R1 button, and it throws your spear with force. Doing so towards the cobwebs will clear them. However, you can also use it to impale enemies from a distance, like those that fly and change distance quickly.

Of course, The Silkspear isn't the only valuable skill, as having the power to Dash is vital for your in-game progression.

The Garb of the Pilgrims quest being completed in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Once the Wishwall is complete in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you can start fulfilling side quests for the bugs in Bone Bottom. The first of these is "Garb of the Pilgrims," which asks you to collect twelve scraps of Pilgrim Garp.

In classic Metroidvania fashion, Silksong doesn't come out and tell you where you can find Pilgrim Garb. Luckily, getting the Pilgrims some (slightly) better vestments isn't that big of a hassle, and doing it nets you a very nice reward.

Where to find Pilgrim Garb in Hollow Knight Silksong

An enemy with a dropped Pilgrim Garb in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
These poor pilgrims lost their minds on their way to the summit, but they can help their comrades from beyond the grave. Screenshot by Destructoid

Unlike the Shard Pendant, Pilgrim Garb isn't waiting in a specific area for you to find. Instead, it drops from the many Pilgrim-themed enemies shambling around Pharloom. You're looking for enemies wrapped up in brown bandages, similar to the ones worn by the Pilgrims of Bone Bottom. Once you've killed one of these enemies, check to see if it has a light on it. If it does, it's got a piece of Pilgrim Barb for you to loot.

I was well on my way to grabbing the Swift Step when I finally realized how to get Pilgrim Garbs, but the road to this pivotal upgrade is full of enemies that drop them. That said, there's a fantastic spot to grind up Pilgrim Garbs if you want to complete the quest fast.

After you've met Shakra, the map-selling warrior bug in The Marrow, head up and to the left to enter Mosshome. This first room alone has six enemies that all drop Pilgrim Garb, and it's a fantastic spot to farm Rosaries, too. Even better, following this path leads you to an elevator that will bring you back to Bone Bottom, so you can loop back around and get all the Pilgrim Garb you need in less than five minutes.

Once you've got twelve Pilgrim Garbs, head back to Bone Bottom and interact with the Wishwell to complete the quest.

What do you get for completing Garb of the Pilgrims in Hollow Knight Silksong?

A Rosary Necklace in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
This Prayer Necklace is worth a pretty penny in the early game: Screenshot by Destructoid

Finishing "Garb of the Pilgrims" rewards you with a Rosery Necklace, a more plentiful variant of the Broken Prayer Strings you've been finding up to this point. Breaking the Rosary Necklace nets you a whopping 120 Rosaries. With this extra cash, unlocking all those hidden benches around The Marrow and Deep Docks will become a lot easier. Even if you aren't in the mood to pay for easy access to save points, you'll need plenty of Roseries to buy all of Shakra's maps and purchase new items from Pebb.

50 Cent Street Fighter

The new Street Fighter movie is currently shooting and set to release next year, and its cast is out to remind us just how outrageous it's going to be.

I was first alerted to the news of some official posters for the movie from none other than rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. Why? Because he's playing Balrog in the movie, somehow. I didn't even realize he acted, but apparently he's been a recurring character on the TV series Power and been in several other films and projects. Who knew!

Street Fighter movie cast
Image via Legendary Pictures

But then I saw this abomination. I like the idea behind it, as it showcases the interesting cast list like the arcae game's character select screen. And then you really gaze it it for a while and start to look at some of the faces and I can't help but think, oh, goodness, what is this?

Immediately, WWE wrestlers Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes jumped out to me, and they are playing Akuma and Guile, respectively. They're decent in the ring, but how will they fare on the silver screen. Hold on. Is that Eric Andre? The over-the-top comedian? Yup, sure is. He'll be playing Don Sauvage. Ah, and then of course there's none other than Aquaman and Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa. He'll be playing Blanka. Yeah, that kind of makes sense.

The guy in the mask is playing Vega, which also fits! But then I googled to find out the actor's name is Orville Peck, and he's a musician who basically always wears a mask, all the time? I'm not really sure why. And wait, is that the podcast guy in between Reigns and Andre? Yeah, that's Andrew Schulz, playing none other than Dan. He's also an actor, apparently, which is again news to me.

Alright. What the hell is this cast? It's like a cross between a fever dream and the worst fan-cast list you would've seen on GameFAQs back in the day. But you know what? It kinda makes me want to be there on day one to see how bad it could get.

Maybe it could be good. Who knows. Some of the more exciting castings for me include Andrew Koji as Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, and David Dastmalchian as Balrog. Dastmalchian has really shown off his acting chops in recent years, and I'm excited to see his take on the villain.

This is either going to be kind of fun or an absolute disaster. Either way, I can't help but be interested. And hopefully this is all a big hullabaloo about nothing and the movie turns out amazing.

Street Fighter, directed by Kitao Sakurai, will come to theaters on Oct. 16, 2026.

Hornet looking at the Moss Druid cooking in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Rosary String is one of the most essential items you can find in Hollow Knight Silksong, and it will make your deaths feel a lot less painful.

You'll find Rosaries throughout your journey by defeating different enemies, along with scavenging them from specific locations. You can then use it to get important items like maps of regions, a compass, and more. If you die, however, you'll end up losing these precious resources, and that's where the Rosary String comes in.

What is a Rosary String in Hollow Knight Silksong?

In simple terms, a Rosary String is a stack of isolated Rosaries that you find on your adventures. When you find Rosaries, they're loose and can fall as well. This can also happen if you have them in your inventory and die.

Unlike the loose Rosaries, you can't lose a Rosary String. They're counted as consumables and remain in your inventory. Not only do they prevent you from losing your Rosaries, but they also provide you with the resource when required, at the correct moment.

How to get a Rosary String in Hollow Knight Silksong?

Screenshot by Destructoid

The easiest way to get a Rosary String is from the shop at Bone Bottom. You'll have to provide 80 Rosaries, and they will be returned with a Rosary String. Once added to your inventory, they will be safe even if you die.

Also, the Rosary String is different from a Frayed Rosary String, but it works in the same fashion. The Frayed Rosary String offers you fewer Rosaries (30 when you break them) and can be found in specific locations. Just like the standard variant, the Frayed variant stays intact as well upon death, so you have no risk of losing them.

Do note that it costs 80 Rosaries to make a string, but you get back only 60 when you break them.

How to use a Rosary String in Hollow Knight Silksong?

Open your inventory, and hover over a Rosary String you want to use. Just consume it, and the applicable amount of Rosaries will be instantly made available to you in the inventory. You can then use it to purchase the item you want. It's a straightforward resource-management trick that prevents you from losing your Rosaries at minor extra cost.

Hornet looking at the Moss Druid cooking in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Moss Druid is one of the first characters who will give you a side quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong. While the task of picking three Mossberries seems easy, it's not that simple. Before the Druid gives you the Berry Picking quest, you probably already have one Mossberry from exploring the first areas in the Moss Grotto. The other two berries are a bit trickier to get, though.

Here's a map with all the locations of the three mossberries you need and how to get them. Below the map, I'll explain in detail how to get each one in the order in which you'll find them from the start of the game. You can keep reading to also learn more about the effect of the charm you get from the quest reward, Druid's Eye.

The Bone Bottom map in Hollow Knight: Silksong with the mosberry areas marked in blue.
Mosberry locations are marked by the blue squares. Screenshot and edited by Destructoid

First Mosberry

You'll find the first Mosberry in the upper left side of where you started the game. You'll see a huge block floating in the air that looks like stairs you can jump on. Climb on these platforms and keep following the platform path to the right, and you'll see a Mosberry. You won't see the item in the screenshot below because I had already picked the Mosberry, but it will be there when you get to this point.

Hornet standing next to where the first Mossberry is located in Silksong.

Second Mosberry

The second Mosberry is in the section to the right of the first one. Keep going right, and you'll also see platforms going up, so climb them and keep moving left as you ascend. When you're close to the top, you'll see a mosquito-like monster and, if you jump, you'll see the Mosberry hanging from the ceiling. Your jump isn't high enough to reach it.

Jump to the platform to the left of the Mosberry and wait for the mosquito to attack downward. When it attacks and starts flying back up, jump in its direction and press down and the attack button at the same time. Hornet will do a diagonal attack to the bottom right and, if your aim is precise, will bounce up towards the Mosberry, letting you reach it and use a normal attack to slash it down and pick it up on the ground. Check out the GIF below on how this might look.

A GIF of Hornet attacking a mosquito to reach the Mossberry in Hollow Knight: Silksong
How to get the second Mosberry. GIF by Destructoid

Third Mossberry

The final Mossberry is just below the Moss Druid room. Go back to where you met the Moss Druid, exit their room, and head down. In the area you've just dropped, drop down from the platform and hit the wall on the right a few times to break it and reveal a secret room. Once you go in, you'll find the third and final Mossberry. Now, you can just climb back up to return it all to the Moss Druid.

Berry Picking quest reward

The Moss Druid will be so grateful you've given them three Mossberries that they will reward you with Druid's Eye, a charm you can equip in the blue slot. Now, when Hornet takes damage, you will see a bit of moss in your silk thread. If she's hit a second time, that slime will turn into one silk loop.

I don't think this charm is great since it requires you to get hit twice to generate a mere silk loop. But in my case, when I've completed the Berry Picking quest, the Druid's Eye was the only blue charm I had, so it was better than nothing. I recommend you still equip it, but keep other blue slot charms in mind for a potential upgrade in the future.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Prestige challenges

Activision and Paramount have recently announced that the massively popular Call of Duty series will be adapted for the big screen. So, which COD is being adapted? Black Ops? Modern Warfare? Zombies?! And, perhaps easier to answer, who's directing the flick?

A lot of outlets are likely already coming up with lists of dream casts and directors—many of which'll contain the Internet-mandatory likes of Nolan, Villeneuve, and Tarantino—but we can narrow it down to something a little bit more realistic, and definitely more fitting.

Paramount is in charge of making the Call of Duty movie a reality, so we're more likely to see a director who has a proven track record with the studio. A great choice would be Christopher McQuarrie, both the man who breathed new life into the Mission: Impossible series and the man who already deserves some rest from the Mission: Impossible series. McQuarrie could knock this one out of the park. He's just the best in the business when it comes to literally realistic action sequences. He's also a proven screenwriter, an essential skill for a series with so many story options to choose from.

But McQuarrie isn't the most likely option, nor the one Paramount seems to be teasing already. That would be Joseph Kosinski, the director of Top Gun: Maverick and F1, starring Brad Pitt. The studio stated, "We're approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve."

That makes it pretty evident they're either going for Kosinski or someone they believe will be able to pull off his brand of high-octane action that somehow never fails to look grounded. Kosinski has two projects in pre-production, so he might not be available to direct Call of Duty so soon, but Paramount didn't mention any release date, so he's not out of the cards.

And though Kosinski is yet to direct a video game movie adaptation, he's no stranger to working with video games. He's actually the director of Halo 3's fantastic Starry Night ad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MapTlW80f6Y

While Kosinski's not the auteurial kind likely to take Call of Duty in a completely new direction that'll blow everyone's minds like the original Modern Warfare did, he knows how to play the studio game and is very competent at bringing realistic and spectacular flair to his films.

The main character in Hollow Knight Silksong fighting a sword duelist.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, in true Soulslike fashion, throws some mighty powerful bosses and enemies your way. One of them is Lace, an exceptional duelist who first appears during the Deep Docks section of the game.

With counterattacks, lightning-fast thrusts, and swordsmanship skills out of this world, Lace can prove a tough nut to crack, but it is by far from being impossible. Here is everything you need to know to beat Lace in Silksong.

Hollow Knight: Silksong - Lace guide

Lace can be found waiting for you on a platform above a pool of lava in the Deep Docks, one of the first areas of the game. The path to her needs to be unlocked by dashing to a platform and hitting a lever, but to do that, you'll need to unlock the Swift Step first. We have a guide for that, so check it out.

Once you've found your way to her, here's what you can do to defeat her.

Never strike twice

The main character in Hollow Knight Silksong fighting a sword duelist on a platform above lava.
Lace can easily block your attacks if you're too aggressive, and then hit you with a massive counter. Screenshot by Destructoid

Lace's strongest suite of attacks lies in her defense, i.e., her counter-slashes. She has two of them: after getting hit a few times, Lace takes up a defensive stance, and if you hit her, she will riposte and do two damage to yoou; the other is a lot more subtle, as Lace will slash up and to the side in a millisecond, almost certainly hitting you.

These counterattacks of hers can be devastating and cost you a lot of health, but can generally be easily avoided. To do so, never commit to too many attacks. One or two slashes are all you can get in at a time safely, with even the second one often posing a threat. Adopt a hit-and-run strategy when fighting her and try to avoid getting caught in her counters.

Use the Silkspear liberally

The main character in Hollow Knight Silksong healing while an enemy dives to the ground.
Use her massive AOE slash to heal or reposition yourself. Screenshot by Destructoid

One of your most powerful abilities at this point in the game is the Silkspear, as it can do tons of quick and easy damage to enemies. Lace can be stunned, allowing you to get a few hits in (and maybe even push her into the lava for extra damage), and there's no better way to speed up this process than hitting her with the Silkspear.

Do keep in mind that the Silkspear uses up your healing, meaning you'll need to charge it up again to full to be able to restore HP. Lace has several attacks, which are a godsend for healing, i.e., the massive slashing attack she indicates with a huge white circle. While she's in the animation, you can easily heal, but do keep track that you don't lock yourself out of healing with the Spear.

Dash-and-hit, dash-and-hit

The main character in Hollow Knight Silksong jumping over an enemy's attack.
Dashing over her attacks is your best bet. Screenshot by Destructoid

The most common attack pattern you'll employ during your clash with Lace is what I call "dash-and-hit." While hit-and-run which I've mentioned above works, dashing and hitting and then dashing away is much more effective, especially against a few of Lace's attacks.

If she's spamming her counterattack from above, or if she's thrusting towards you, your best bet is to jump, dash, hit her in the back, and then dash away. What's more, if she takes up that defensive stance, you can jump and dash behind her and hit her anyway, thus avoiding getting slashed to pieces.

The only attack she has that you cannot dash over is the jumping one, alongside the telegraphed AOE slash, which you can use to either change up your position or heal.

Dashes can also help you get out of her counterattacks, no matter what they are, so make sure you always have your finger on that trigger, ready to escape whatever she throws at you. Keep in mind, dashes don't give you invincibility frames, so you can't dash through Lace or her attacks.

Oh, and a lot of her attacks can be parried, too, if that's your prerogative (you have to hit her blade at the exact moment to do so).

How to change controls in Hollow Knight Silksong?

Whether you're playing with a keyboard or controller, you can change the settings quite easily.

  • If you're on your keyboard, click on the control you want to change. Press the new button, and it will override the default settings.
  • If you're using a controller, you can remap the default bindings to something that suits your preferred layout. You can change most of the controls the way you want, so there are minimal restrictions.

For those using a controller on PC, you use your PS5/Xbox controllers, as either works well and has full compatibility. This also works if you're not using the Steam version and instead playing on PC using the Game Pass.

Personally, I prefer playing with my controller as it feels smoother and easier to manage the combat.

bubsy 4 key art

Bubsy 4D was arguably one of the best and most surprising announcements to come out of Gamescom Opening Night Live, with what appeared to be a fun platformer for an IP that arguably deserved to stay dead and buried.

It surprised us, at least. And after the initial announcement, Destructoid spoke to Fabian Rasorfer—founder of Fabraz, the team working on Bubsy 4D—as well as Ben Miller, lead developer at Fabraz, to discuss what on Earth led them to work on a Bubsy game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar11TaPISLQ&ab_channel=PlayStation

Ok, let's get the obvious one out of the way. Why the flying f*ck would you actively CHOOSE to make a new Bubsy game!?

Fabian Rastorfer: We like to joke that we got bullied into it! When Atari announced that they were actively looking for Bubsy pitches, we got INUNDATED with posts on socials telling us that "Fabraz should do it!" which is, of course, extremely flattering and heartwarming, but also insane. Shortly after we started conversations with Atari, and the rest is history!

Ben Miller: Besides an internet horde telling us to do so, the fact that Bubsy has stuck around like he has clearly speaks to some kind of staying power. There are things to like about the guy in spite of all of the memes, and giving the bobcat a second chance seemed like the decent thing to do.

Do you feel any pressure to make an actually good Bubsy game, or do previous poor releases make you feel like anything is better than what we had before?

Rastorfer: The first thing we did, before even beginning pre-production, was hosting a game night with the whole team, where we played all the previous games. And here's the hard truth: Are most of the games flawed? Absolutely! But are they AS bad as they say? Nope! You can actually tell that there was a lot of love put into some of them. No one goes out planning to make a bad game, nor do we! So I wouldn't say that I feel any particular pressure past the usual while working on any of our games!

Miller: I actually grew up playing the first two games and honestly had fond memories of them! I actually missed all the meme-ing on Bubsy 3D over the years. Of course, when revisiting them with fresh eyes, some parts haven't aged as well, but that's the norm for most games of that era!

bubsy as a ball int the center of a level
Image via Atari

You seem to be having a lot of fun with this title, and it shows. Can you tell me about how the team went about making a new Bubsy game and where they got their main inspiration from?

Rastorfer: We definitely are having a ton of fun with it! We approached it with a healthy mix of pulling out the good while also reinventing or removing the "bad." Part of this came with a redesign on Bubsy himself, both visually and narratively. The change to a jacket with a tie (that still resembles his "!" shirt) was a conscious effort to play with the concept of aging him up. He's a B-list star who's past his prime but, at his core, is still ready for more adventures! This is also reflected in his humor, which is a little less juvenile and referential, and focuses more on him being an awkward uncle who tries hard to be cool without ever really pulling it off well. And that's kind of endearing.

Miller: I think others in the cast would question the B-list self-assessment... In addition to the extensive thought into the visual and tonal shifts, we also wanted to build our mechanical choices off of the designs of the earlier games. When revisiting the older games, we definitely focused on what to pull out and bring forward mechanically. The glide is a classic and an obvious requirement. Another was the very momentum-driven movement of the first game, more akin to Sonic, which in part led to the hairball form and its physics-driven handling. And in general, the cartooniness of the character and cat nature drove a lot of the animation touches like heavy smears on certain actions, claws dragging down walls during a wall cling, etc.

No, but really, how much fun did you have making this game and making all those inside references to other games (a.k.a. Orange Blur)?

Rastorfer: The humor in general is definitely a blast to play around with. Not just in terms of referential jokes, but also leaning into the slapstick and absurdity of it all. I have to admit that I'm probably also having too much fun sneaking in jokes that skirt at the edge of the E12 age rating we're aiming for. It just feels right for our new Bubster!

Miller: Seconded, it's been so much fun to work with. Especially the orange blur part, us getting wacky with the hairball mode ended up being such a surprisingly fun mechanic to work on, either zooming through dedicated sections with halfpipes or weaving it in as a flourish in more standard sections.

Don't you think it's wild that Bubsy is getting a brand new game before other platform legends like Banjo, Spyro, etc?

Rastorfer: Yes and no! The expectations of a series like Bubsy are astronomically different to games like Spyro and Banjo. So it's easier to find opportunities to reintroduce Bubsy. I am extremely grateful how much faith Atari is putting into our studio because they have given us almost no restrictions on how we're allowed to reinvent and modernize the world of Bubsy. Thankfully, based on the reception of the announcement, everyone's into what we've been cooking up!

Miller: Yup, totally second what Fabian said! That said I hope they get a chance to jump back into the action soon though.

Can we expect any Bubsy 3D callback levels to remind people of their cursed childhoods?

Rastorfer: I mean… We've added optional tank controls to the settings. Combine that with the Bubsy 3D model as an unlockable outfit, and you can definitely re-experience some of those pains! We don't judge masochists, we welcome them.

Miller: Depending on graphics settings or GPU issues, you might also get it closer to the OG. I believe in the creativity of the modding scene.

For anyone on the fence about this game. What do you think they should look forward to most?

Rastorfer: I think if you're a fan of our previous games (Slime-san, Demon Turf, Demon Tides demo) then you'll likely have a great time with Bubsy 4D as well. It features some of our best takes on expressive platforming yet, is filled with a ton of things to do, including competitive leaderboard racing, and should hopefully make you exhale loudly at least once. Give this Bubsy a chance, you might just start liking him!

Miller: Fabian said it perfectly. In addition, it offers a nice contrast to the sheer breadth of options in Demon Tides. Bubsy pulls things back to a more focused and frenetic kind of movement that I think also feels great.

New Tier XI tanks coming to World of Tanks 2.0

Tier XI tanks have made their grand entrance to World of Tanks, and there are 16 incredible vehicles to drive around.

After more than a decade of Tier X being the highest, Wargaming has taken things past the expected norm. The 2.0 update has released 16 Tier XI tanks to unlock and spread across different roles. However, not all of them are equally effective in their respective roles, and this tier list will be of incredible help in your endgame grind.

Complete World of Tanks Tier XI tank tier list

To separate the tanks, I have used three different tiers.

  • S-tier choices are among the best in the current meta. You can't go wrong with them during a battle.
  • A-tier choices are definitely worthwhile choices, and can be considered as S-tier if you love their playstyles. They could be slightly harder to master for beginners.
  • B-tier tanks are okay, but they could have been designed better. Either their abilities are average, or they're extremely hard to master in the game.

Do note that the tiering of a vehicle will differ based on if you're a beginner or someone who has hundreds of hours in World of Tanks.

Tank Tank type Beginner Tier Veteran tier Reason
Leopard 120 Medium A B It's a great tank to play as a sniper medium. You stay behind bushes, move across different spots, and shoot from a distance. Its ability allows you to get precision shots, which are helpful for beginners. However, the base alpha is lower than that of the Tier X Leopard, which is a massive disappointment. The ability also becomes redundant for experts who already have good aim.
Hirschkafer Tank Destroyer A B The Hirschkafer benefits from waiting on your shots as it heats up its shells to do more damage. This is ideal for beginners since the ability teaches them the skill of having to wait and not spam their shots. For experts, however, the ability will act as more of a hindrance, and the base alpha is average at best.
Taschenratte Heavy S S Once beginners learn the art of ramming, the KR-1 is a monster on the battlefield. It can just hit an enemy tank head-on and destroy it without taking damage. The gun is pretty good, and so is the frontal armor. It's a masterpiece to use and arguably the strongest Tier XI tank.
Obj 432U Medium A S The Obj 432U might not excel in one department, but it has no weakness. A decent gun, decent armor, and mobility - the Obj 432U is great for beginners and veterans alike.
KR-1 Heavy S S Once beginners learn the art of ramming, the KR-1 is a monster on the battlefield. It can just hit an enemy tank head-on and destroy it without taking damage. The gun is pretty good, and so is the frontal armor. It's a masterpiece to use and arguably the strongest Tier XI tank.
Hacker Medium B A The Hacker's ability makes it the perfect tank to run-and-gun, which is an extremely hard style for beginners. The dispersion becomes negligible even when you're moving at full speed, allowing players to outflank their opponents.
T803 Heavy B S The trick with the T803 is to hit your enemies consistently. The more you do that, the quicker your reloads will be. Beginners will have a hard time doing that compared to more experienced World of Tanks players, who can exploit the ability to perfection.
BZ-79 Heavy S A The BZ-79 comes powered with rocket-fuel technology that provides it with a quick burst of movement speed. For beginners, this is a good Heavy tank as you will also have speed on your side. The ability is relatively easy to understand, which makes it a good choice.
Contriver Heavy A S The Contriver's unique ability allows you to double damage and greater stabilization while giving up mobility and turret-movement speed. Typically, beginners who can accidentally get into bad positions can get out of them using this ability. The Contriver, like the Canopener, will always be a great choice in the hands of experienced players.
Imbattable Heavy B A The Imbattable is essentially a unique auto-loader where the key is always to keep one shell left to aid the reload process. For beginners, this can be a complex skill to master, as they typically spam shots. The alpha could also have been slightly higher, but it's a decent tank in the hands of veterans.
Black Rock Heavy S S It's hard to go wrong with the Black Rock, which can be earned from the Personal Missions. Once you manage to land two armor-penetrating shots on the enemy, your next round will be a dual burst shot that does more damage and takes less time to execute. Despite being slightly on the slower side, the Black Rock is an excellent choice for beginners and veterans alike.
40t Medium B A The 40t looks fun as its ability allows you to control when you want to shoot. You can temporarily pause a reload and shoot with your existing bullets. This can be a hard job for beginners to understand, and there are easier alternatives to pick for them.
Szakal Medium B B The Szakal is a good hybrid that has two modes. One allows you to move quicker, while the other offers better accuracy and reduces reload speed. While all these abilities read better on paper, they're less impressive on the battlefield.
Strv 107-12 Tank Destroyer A A The Strv 107-12 is your classic tank destroyer that has a Pillbox mode. In this mode, you sacrifice movement and turret speed to enjoy quicker reloads and make more accurate shots. This tank would have been S-tier if the ability benefits were more noticable.
Breaker Tank Destroyer B S If you love the Badger, you will love the Breaker. I won't recommend this tank for beginners, as you will have to be on the move and dish out damage. In the current meta and maps, the Breaker can have a natural advantage due to higher forward speed and engine power, especially while trying to scale an elevated area.
Borkenkafer Light Tank A A The ability is slightly confusing, as its effects depend on whether you hit a spotted enemy or an unspotted one. Doing the first will extend their revealed status, while the other will reveal their location. It's a good ability, but it will require a bit of learning.

Ultimately, the tank you like from the table above should also dictate which tank tech tree you pick for free as part of the 2.0 update gifts.

A screenshot of Hollow Knight: Silksong featuring a boss fight.

Yeah, the Hollow Knight: Silksong hype is real, folks.

The long-anticipated indie sequel just became available on all platforms early this morning, and the rush to buy and download the Metroidvania caused issues on just about every digital gaming storefront there is. Whoa.

A screenshot of Hollow Knight: Silksong in the green/lush biome.
Image via Team Cherry

Shortly after the game went live on a wide array of platforms at 9am CT this morning, Steam users began reporting errors while attempting to download the game or access the service at all, and so, too, have users on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch when it comes to accessing those stores, too.

This is likely due to the fact that the game was not available for pre-load or pre-order, meaning everyone looking to play was rushing to their particular store to try and buy and download it all at the same exact time, causing widespread issues.

So, if you're struggling to access the online services of just about any gaming platform there is, Team Cherry's hot new game may be the culprit. It does already appear to be stabilizing, at least on Steam, so be patient and the game should hopefully be playable for all very soon.

Silksong's journey to release has been a tenuous one, first being revealed as Hollow Knight DLC before shifting into its own full game in 2019. The game was scarcely heard from or seen since then, but Team Cherry revealed a few weeks ago at Gamescom that today was the day.

https://twitter.com/tomwarren/status/1963605620201857284

Well, good luck out there, gamers. Whether you're playing on console or PC, Silksong appears to be the big game of the moment, so I hope everyone enjoys it whenever they finally get to play.

Update on Sept. 4, 2025 at 12:55pm CT: The issues have subsided for most platforms for the time being, and the game is off to a very hot start with over 530,000 concurrent players on Steam alone. Team Cherry already has a massive hit on its hands.

Hornet killing an enemy that drops Rosaries in Hollow Knight: Silksong

If you've run into Shakra in Hollow Knight: Silksong, chances are you don't have enough Rosaries to buy all her maps, the Compass, and other map add-ons. They're very important for your progress, though, which is why I recommend this simple trick to farm Rosaries early on close to Shakra.

If you haven't met Shakra yet, you eventually will. She's the character who sells maps, the Quill, and the Compass, and she's impossible to miss once you get to the second area, The Marrow. Just go right until you get to the lava area past the first bench, where you can insert 30 Rosaries and start climbing up and left to get there.

After you speak to Shakra, go left and down into a room full of moss and weird humanoid creatures. They all drop Rosaries when defeated, so that's where you'll farm now. Clean up the room and, instead of leaving from where you've entered, climb up the platforms and go right until you find the upper exit. You'll be once again in Shakra's room, still to the left of her, but on the upper side now. You'll find a bench where you can rest and a lever you can hit to unlock the gate that connects to Shakra.

From here on, the loop to farm Rosaries is simple:

  1. Rest on the bench
  2. Return to the moss room
  3. Kill all enemies
  4. Return to the bench and rest again
  5. Return to the moss room, and all enemies will have spawned again.

The trick here is that whenever you rest on a bench, monsters in other rooms respawn, along with their drops. So the monsters that drop Rosaries will keep showing up as long as you rest on the bench before going into the room again.

You can check the video below for the full farming cycle.

The path to farm Rosaries. Video by Destructoid.

I took 1 minute per cycle of going into the moss room, killing all monsters, and resetting at the bench. Each cycle gave me 30 Rosaries since I killed all six monsters in the room every time. That means you should need around 11 cycles of this farming method, or 11 minutes, to get 330 Rosaries, which is 20 more than you need to buy all items from Shakra. I think that's fast enough considering the low risk, since if you mess up and die, you respawn right next to the room where you lost your Rosaries.

Remember that if you want to farm Rosaries further, you can prevent losing them by creating Rosary Strings in Shops when you're near one. Otherwise, you will drop them all and have to retrieve them if you die.

Map NPC Shakra singing next to Hornet in Silksong

There are plenty of valuable tools you can come across in Hollow Knight Silksong, and one of them is hidden in The Marrow. It's pretty tricky to find, but the Shard Pendant will make your life a lot easier.

This tool is among the earliest ones that you can find. The location falls partly in your journey to the first map merchant as you close in on the exit of The Marrow. But let's first find out what's so special about it, and why you should take a partial detour.

How does the Shard Pendant work in Hollow Knight Silksong?

The Shard Pendant appears to be an ancient tool that crafters and collectors wore. However, it's not a pure cosmetic item that has no use. In fact, the tool, when equipped, allows you to collect more shell shards whenever you defeat a creature.

This is immensely beneficial to both your early and late game grind, since equipping the tool will always get you better rewards from completing the same tasks. However, you'll have to complete additional steps before you can get its benefits.

How to use the Shard Pendant in Hollow Knight Silksong?

The Shard Pendant's abilities work passively, but you'll have to equip it first. To do so, head over to any bench. Once done, open your inventory by pressing the I button. Then scroll over to the Crest section, where you'll find all your available tools.

Select the Shard Pendant to equip it. Don't worry, as you'll be able to unequip it later if required (in case you don't want to use it any longer). Once equipped, you'll automatically get all the benefits of the tool whenever you defeat a monster.

How to find the Shard Pendant in Hollow Knight Silksong?

The room where you can find the Shard Pendant in Hollow Knight Silksong
Screenshot by Destructoid

The item in discussion is found in a small room close to where the first map merchant can be found in Hollow Knight Silksong. As you keep travelling up, you'll come to a location with a few vanishing steps and a couple of bee-like creatures ready to attack you.

While the main objective is to travel as far as possible, you'll also find a room to the extreme left of your screen, a few steps down. Go inside, and you'll come across a carcass, while the Shard Pendant will be near the light source.

Collect the item and travel to the nearest bench to equip it to get its benefits.

The main character standing next to a druid in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

As a cryptic metroidvania, Hollow Knight: Silksong often gives you items you have no idea what to do with. It's the usual Soulslike formula: piece things together yourself.

In one of the early stages of the game, you'll uncover an item called Mossberry, which you'll probably be puzzled about. Its purpose is actually pretty simple, though, so here's everything you need to know.

What is Mossberry in Hollow Knight: Silksong?

An inventory screen in Hollow Knight: Silksong showing various items.
The Mossberry item can be found around the Mosshome zone. Screenshot by Destructoid

Mossberries are a quest item found in the game's initial area, the Mosshome. They are green bulbous orbs often carried by other bugs, which you have to defeat to acquire. They are tied to a particular character in Mosshome, the Moss Druid. She can be found by accessing the area past the Map Merchant in The Marrow, particularly its right side.

Once you've reached the Moss Druid, she will offer you a Berry Picking quest, which you have to Promise to fulfill. You then have to collect three of these Mossberries and bring them back to her, which will give you a reward.

This quest is entirely optional and can take a while, given how scattered the Mossberry enemies are throughout the Mosshome zone. We're crafting a dedicated guide regarding this assignment, so make sure to keep an eye out for that.

A child sim with blonde hair and a yellow shirt standing by an orange imaginary friend in the sims 4

The first official trailer for The Sims 4's upcoming Adventure Awaits expansion pack debuted today, and the nostalgia is really kicking in for this one. This teaser confirmed the return of Imaginary Friends from The Sims 3, and I don't quite know how to feel about it.

Imaginary Friends were equal parts terrifying and fun in the last game, and they're channeling exactly the same vibes in the expansion pack trailer. I'm not sure if I'm 100 percent sold on the new look just yet, but I'm still ecstatic these strange yet lovable beings have finally found their way into The Sims 4.

An orange imaginary friend peeking out a bubble window on a playground in the sims 4
Screenshot by Destructoid

An Imaginary Friend first appears in The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits trailer at about 21 seconds as a small doll that a child is interacting with. Then, at around 41 seconds, the doll is transformed into a full-on Imaginary Friend who is about the same size as child Sims. The process seems super similar to how it worked in The Sims 3: Generations, so it'll be intriguing to see if they can eventually become humans, too.

In The Sims 4, Imaginary Friends have a more Muppet or Sesame Street look and feel to them. They were a lot more robotic and futuristic-looking in the last game, so it's a bit of a jarring change. It does seem like there might be a few different appearances for them, though, as a different base doll is showcased at about 39 seconds into the trailer.

I'm glad that it seems like there are a few different looks for this doll, because if I'm being honest, the very first thing I thought of upon seeing the newly imagined version is Balloon Boy from Five Nights at Freddy's, which is definitely not the vibes we want for our child Sims. Still, the kind of creepy but cute look is exactly what Sims does best, so even though I'm a bit creeped out, I'm equal parts excited.

An orange imaginary friend floating in the air in the sims 4 next to a blue imaginary friend running in the sims 3
Screenshot by Destructoid, Image via The Sims Wiki. Remix by Destructoid

This series is at its peak when it leans into the truly bizarre yet endearing, as is evidenced by features like Cowplants, the Grim Reaper, Bonehilda, Spruce Almighty, and the Tragic Clown. Sure, some of these things are kinda strange, but they're also super fun and give The Sims franchise so much personality.

I'm always wanting more weirdness in The Sims 4, as I'm often missing the bold and unique strides that were taken in The Sims 3. The return of Imaginary Friends feels like a really great step in the right direction, and I hope the devs keep this momentum moving forward. I'm talking about full expansion packs that channel the same kind of vibes, similar to The Sims 3: Into the Future, which was a completely novel, unique, and wildly fun pack.

Imaginary Friends were easily the standout for me in the expansion pack trailer, but there are also plenty of other exciting additions to look forward to. Geysers, exercise bikes, water slides, new vacation destinations, fully customizable playgrounds, archery, challenge modifiers, and diving boards stuck out to me the most, although we haven't even gotten the actual gameplay trailer yet, so there's likely plenty more to uncover. Everything else seems pretty exciting, but none of it really compares to the return of my all-time favorite weird little friends.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Are the new Imaginary Friends going to haunt me in my dreams? Maybe, but the unique charm and chaotic gameplay they bring are totally worth it. Especially since child Sims are always desperate for more to do.

The upcoming expansion pack may be called Adventure Awaits, but I'm most looking forward to staying in and watching my Sim kids bond with their adorably creepy new friends. Who needs to touch grass when you've got a nightmare doll with a rich personality?

A screenshot of Hollow Knight: Silksong featuring a boss fight, again.

The Dash, or Swift Step, is a crucial part of Hollow Knight's gameplay. Without it, you're blocked from reaching some tough and distant spots, while your combat capabilities are significantly limited.

Team Cherry made the Swift Step pretty challenging to unlock in Silksong, meaning many players could run into a roadblock without ways to progress. If you were in such a situation, this guide should help you out.

The Swift Step can be found at an idol, much like how you unlocked the Silkspear beforehand. It is located in the Deep Docks area of the game, on one of its top levels. To reach this location, follow these steps:

  • As soon as you enter the Deep Docks, head right to the area with the Map Merchant, past the elevator that takes you up to the paid Rest bench.
  • When in there, climb up the platforms to the very top, then head right to the next area.
  • Keep heading right past the jumping skeleton enemies until you reach a sole platform standing amid a sea of lava.
  • Then, simply walk on the lava until you've reached new platforms, then climb up to the top where an orange ball is embedded in the ceiling.
  • Hit the ball and run, it'll explode and open up a new passage you should go through.
  • Go through the passage then head left and keep heading left until you've reached the idol.
  • Then, interact with the idol to unlock the Dash. You can then go further left and unlock a shortcut to go back where you started and unlock a Rosary Bench.

And that's it. Though well-hidden, the Dash will allow you to further progress in the Silksong story.

Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel dresses up the Vampire Survivors formula in Norse gods and triple-A visuals, but beneath the moody lighting and spinning hammers lies a familiar grind. It's fun, chaotic, and satisfyingly messy – for a while – before repetition drags it down like a skeleton with no sense of personal space.
