The thing about an adaptation, is that sometimes you've got to twist things slightly to better do what you want to do. Whether that's the right choice or not depends on how militant you are about the concept of faithfulness. When it comes to The Witcher series, however, I expect most people won't care, except for the author of the original books Andrzej Sapkowski himself. His personal gripe? The very existence of different witcher schools.

It's been a while since we've had a new game from Spec Ops: The Line director Cory Davis. As far as I can tell, the last game he made was 2016's Here They Lie, a survival horror game. He's currently working on another horror game in fact, Sleep Awake, which is a horrendous name, though I think it's doing some interesting things. Weirdly, he's making the game alongside Nine Inch Nails guitarist (for live shows, anyway) Robin Finck, and while the game doesn't have a release date, it did just receive a demo.

What if EVE Online was a bit less sci-fi, and a lot more medieval? You would, in theory, get Pax Dei, a game that first entered early access in June last year. Responses to it so far appear to be, well, mixed, but as seems to be quite common with These Kinds Of Games, everyone that's played it appears to be going through some kind of Stockholm syndrome kind of situation, as the game is still going. It's going so far as to launch into 1.0 in fact, and developer Mainframe Industries have even put a date to it.

Tales of Berseria Velvet Figure Returns

Kotobukiya announced a re-release of the 1/8 scale figure of Velvet Crowe, the main character from Tales of Berseria. The figure costs 15,400 yen (or about $104.15) and will release in Japan sometime on June 2026.

Pre-orders are now available from the Kotobukiya online store, and will close on December 9, 2025. The figure depicts Tales of Berseria protagonist Velvet striking a pose, with her signature Gauntlet Blade unsheated on her right arm, and her left arm covered in bandages while she readies herself for combat. It stands at approximately 202mm (or roughly 7.95 inches.)

You can take a look at the figure here:

The original release date for the Velvet figure was March 2017, and it was initially revealed 9 years ago on September 2016. As a reminder, Bandai Namco is continuing with the Tales of Remastered Project with the upcoming release of Tales of Xillia Remastered, which will launch for the Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC via Steam on October 30, 2025.

Tales of Berseria is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC via Steam. The game first released in Japan on August 18, 2016, and later on January 24, 2017 in North America.

Chainsaw Man Bunny Girl Suit Makima and Power Figures Return

Good Smile Company and Freeing announced that both the Chainsaw Man bunny girl suit figures of Makima and Power will return. The two of them first showed up in 2023, but since they are out-of-print the prices skyrocketed. (On Amazon, someone's actually asking over $749 for Power.) Makima will be ¥38,500/$317.99 this time, with the US price going up from $278.99 likely due to tariffs. (The Japanese price remained the same.) Power will be ¥39,600/$326.99, with her US price going up from the original $286.99. Both will reappear in January 2026 in Japan and Q2 2026 worldwide.

Since these are straightforward rereleases of existing figures, there aren't really any changes to highlight. Each one is a 1/4 scale figure of one of the two heroines from the early arcs of Chainsaw Man in a bunny girl suit, with Makima's being a black outfit and Power's being red. They are about the same height, with both almost being 20 inches tall (505mm). Each one also has fabric fishnet tights on.

Here are some photos Good Smile Company shared to remind people how they look.

This line also will soon include two more characters from the series. On the product pages for them, Good Smile Company shared an early photo from Freeing that included the upcoming Himeno and Kobeni figures. Himeno will be the tallest one in the collection and wear a blue costume, while Kobeni will be shortest and wear white.

The Chainsaw Man Makima and Power bunny girl suit figures will be back in Japan in January 2026 and in the US in Q2 2026. Pre-orders close in November 2026 for both. Season one of Chainsaw Man is already on Crunchyroll, and the Reze Arc movie will debut in Japan on September 19, 2025 and in US theaters in English on October 24, 2025.

New Fields of Mistria Merchandise Includes Dozy and Henrietta Plush

NPC Studio and Fangamer announced the next batch of Fields of Mistria merchandise based on the early access farming and life sim, and this time Dozy the dog and Henrietta the chicken plush are part of the lineup. Initially, only pins of certain characters were available. The two stuffed animals and a box of bath bombs based on Juniper's Bathhouse are now available online.

The Dozy and Henrietta stuffed animals are the more expensive pieces of Fields of Mistria merchandise. Each one is $36. In the case of Juniper's dog Dozy, you get the plush and a pink cushion. It is about a foot long. When on top of the cushion, it is just about 10 inches tall. Since it isn't sewn onto it, it can be displayed without it. Hayden's chicken Henrietta is just over eight and a half inches tall. She doesn't come with any additional accessories, but her signature bow is sewn onto the front of the toy.

Here's how the two of those look:

As for the Juniper's Bathhouse Bath Bomb Set, that costs $28. It gives someone four based on characters from the game. The Celine's Garden one features a green tea scent, Dozy's Naptime is a lavender chamomile bath bomb. Meanwhile, Dragon's Dream smells like "black amethyst," and Juniper's Brew is an herbal "spa tonic" scent. Video footage on the product page for these do show, at the very least, Dragon's Dream turning water a different color after being used.

Fields of Mistria is in early access for PCs, with its last major update appearing in July 2025, and the latest Fangamer merchandise is available now.

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs Battle Royal Game Being Delisted

Bandai Namco announced on social media it will end support for the battle royale game Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs. This means the former Stadia exclusive will no longer be available or playable anywhere. The company will stop selling it on the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam on November 1, 2025, then it will completely shut down servers and make it unplayable on December 31, 2025.

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle is an always online multiplayer game, due to its nature as a battle royale experience, and remained so in both its Stadia and console/PC releases. Up to 64 people all control a Pac-Man avatar in connected mazes, and the goal is to survive long enough to be the last person standing. You can invade other mazes by heading to one of the exits in the one you're located when gates are open.

Here's a trailer that highlights how it all works:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTVduE2KEjM

This means that the console and PC version of this game lasted for just over a year. It debuted back in May 2024. The Stadia version did debut in November 2020, and it ran until the service ended on January 2023.

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC now, but will be delisted on November 1, 2025 and shut down on December 31, 2025.

My Hero Academia: All's Justice Game Releases in February

The release date is set for My Hero Academia: All's Justice, a follow-up game to the My Hero One's Justice series. It will launch on February 6, 2026. There's a new trailer showing how it will cover the end of the series and Final War portion of the anime and manga, and it confirmed everything in the standard, deluxe, and ultimate editions.

First, here's the My Hero Academia: All's Justice release date trailer. It begins by showing something of an open-world sort of experience. This will allow UA students to explore a city, using their Quirks, and undertaking different battles. The Story Mode itself will focus on Final War, and that portion of the trailer focuses on the established fights from that point in the series.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dcd6g9S8ii0

As for the different versions, the standard option of the new My Hero Academia title only includes the game. The Deluxe Edition also gives someone a collectible card and the Season Pass that adds five DLC characters. If you get the Ultimate Edition, that adds 7 HUD banners and 20 costumes that include a Lady Nagant Hero Costume, Himiko Toga school uniform, Opera Costume Pack with two outfits, 1-A Idol Costume Pack with six skins, and U.A. Quest Costume Pack with 10 extra looks. Pre-orders for all of them include an Early Unlock Pack that lets you play as two fighters right away.

My Hero Academia: All's Justice will come to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and its release date is February 6, 2026.

Brigitte GOAT skin Overwatch GOATS

Overwatch has lived many lives as a first-person shooter since it first launched in 2016, going through several iterations, updates, and patches to change things up.

Depending on the strength or weakness of different heroes within the game, different metas formed. And with Overwatch 2's Overwatch Classic arcade mode, Blizzard Entertainment can bring back popular metas of the past to help long-time players re-live the past, and let new players enjoy (or hate) the way things used to be.

Overwatch Classic: GOATS is one of these throwback modes, and it's back for OW2 Anniversary on Sept. 30, 2025. We have all the information on what it is, what it means, and how it got its name.

GOATS Overwatch meaning

OW Classic GOATS limited time mode screenshot
Will you become the GOAT of GOATS? Screenshot by Dot Esports

Overwatch Classic: GOATS is a limited-time mode and a throwback to an era in 2018 when three tanks and three supports was the popular six-vs-six team composition. OW Classic: GOATS brings back the same hero abilities and hero pool at the time so players can use the same team composition, with Damage heroes optional, but not encouraged.

The name originated from a competitive team of the same name that popularized the team composition in Overwatch Open Division's season two way back in 2018. The meta soon took over all competitive play, and the GOATS meta was born. This mode re-lives that time, including six-vs-six teams, no perks, and way more that has changed in the seven years since.

GOAT stands for "greatest of all time," which is what the team considered themselves. Many would disagree for the terror that the meta brought upon OW1, and now it has returned in OW2 as a playable piece of time from the past.

A common GOATS composition consisted of Moira, Lucio, Brigitte as healers, along with, D.Va, Zarya, and Reinhardt as the tanks, making it a fairly unkillable team with a lot of health, a lot of healing, and a strong amount of crowd-control abilities.

Brigitte's Legendary Goat skin is also another tribute to this meta, in case you're a newer player and have no idea what it was like to play back then. She used to wreak havoc within that triple tank-triple support composition, and you can see how it feels in OW Classic while it lasts.

OW2's first version of OW Classic: GOATS was playable from March 25 through April 8, 2025, but can be brought back to the Arcade at any time, like in OW2 Anniversary.

Vlad entering Forest Stage 1 and leaving a flame trail

Vlad, Megabonk's vampire character, is great to play if you like high survivability. He may not have the raw damage that other heroes like Robinette have, but his Vampire passive, which grants him Lifesteal with every level, and Blood Magic's Max HP passive turn him into a massive tank.

Here's the best build to play Vlad in Megabonk today.

Best Megabonk Vlad Build

Type Best Good
Weapons Blood Magic (Starter)
Dice
Flamewalker
Katana
Aegis
Tornado
Tomes XP Tome
Damage Tome
Quantity Tome
Cursed Tome
Luck Tome
Shield Tome
HP Tome
Items Moldy Cheese
Gym Sauce
Medkit
Oats
Backpack
Slurp Gloves
Bloody Cleaver

Some of the best weapons for Vlad are Dice, Flamewalker, and Katana. All of them are projectile weapons that synergize with Blood Magic, and part of this build includes buffing Vlad's projectile count. Flamewalker can be replaced with Tornado, if you already have it unlocked, for more consistent damage.

Vlad really wants four strong weapons. I've tried a run with Aegis for defensive purposes. While it synergized perfectly with Vlad and increased his survivability a lot, he lacked damage to win the Stage Two boss fight before the timer ran out. If you use Aegis, just keep in mind that you might have to go for the Damage Tome and other damage-boosting upgrades more aggressively, or have a solid Stage One with XP Tomes to snowball early.

As for Vlad's best Tomes, I recommend XP, Damage, Quantity, and Cursed Tomes. Quantity is a must for Vlad's Blood Magic to do proper damage and activate the Max HP scaling often. Running without it can be a pain. The Damage Tome is also a good pick because Blood Magic damage early is low, so that extra boost is welcome. XP and Cursed Tomes form the great combo that allows you to snowball in Stages One and Two to have an easier time against their final bosses, since you'll get more experience points while seeing more monsters to farm experience from.

You can pick HP and Shield Tomes for extra survivability if you're not running Aegis. Don't pick the Lifesteal Tome because Vlad's passive already gives good enough Lifesteal. If you want to boost your healing further, go for the HP Regen Tome.

As for items that work well with Vlad, pick the likes of Moldy Cheese and Gym Sauce for extra damage and Medkit and Oats for more health points and healing. Backpack is always nice to find for extra projectiles, and the legendary Bloody Cleaver matches Vlad's life-stealing archetype.

In Shrines, prioritize Projectile Count and Movement Speed. If you don't have a Cursed Tome, pick Difficulty often to improve your scaling.

Calcium performing a kickflip in Megabonk

Calcium is one of the coolest and best-looking characters in Megabonk, one that you will unlock after killing 1,000 skeletons. Calcium is one of the fastest characters in the game, and he can either use that speed to his advantage or to find an equally quick demise.

Below you'll find the optimal Calcium build to use in Megabonk, as well as a few cool alternatives should the RNG not favor your run.

Best Tomes, Weapons, and Items for Calcium

Type Best choices Good choices
Weapons Bone
Flamewalker
Bananarang
Aura
Revolver
Firestaff
Lightning Staff
Tomes Agility
Projectile Speed
Damage
Luck
Size
Lifesteal
Items Turbo Socks
Turbo Skates
Phantom Shroud
Golden Sneakers
Coward's Cloak
Clover

Calcium requires more skill to play than the starter characters. Still, if played correctly, Calcium is one of the best and definitely most fun characters.

Calcium's passive is Speed Demon, which means this character is at its best when using its massive speed advantage to destroy its enemies. This passive grants Calcium extra movement speed, which is incredibly useful, but this bonus gets halved when Calcium takes damage. On top of that, to entice players to make Calcium go as fast as possible, the passive also scales its damage with movement speed. Calcium players should base their entire build around getting speed buffs.

Calcium in Megabonk.
Screenshot by Destructoid

Calcium begins with Bone as its weapon, which is already one of its top picks. Other excellent weapon picks are Flamewalker and Bananarang, for their range. When those are unavailable, look for ranged options, as Calcium needs to keep skating around, dealing damage from afar to avoid getting hit at all costs. All long-ranged options will become even better when paired with the Quantity, Projectile Speed, and Damage tomes, to ensure Calcium's projectiles are as quick and powerful as they can be.

Regarding Megabonk items, anything that adds velocity is a good pick. Turbo Socks, which grant a huge speed boost, and Turbo Skates, which raise Calcium's speed to damage scaling, are the top picks. Phantom Shroud, Coward's Cloak, and Clover are also great picks, but anything that grants Calcium extra speed is good.

Calcium is supremely fun to play, but he's at his best when in an absolute glass cannon(ball) state, one that greatly benefits from not getting hit at all, so that he gets to maintain his speed and damage bonuses.

Check out our list of best builds in Megabonk if you want to try something else.

Warzone Haven's Hollow map

The future of Warzone was revealed today at Call of Duty Next, and the reception to the news has been lukewarm, to say the least.

The new map coming to Warzone later this year, to coincide with season one of Black Ops 7, is called Haven's Hollow, and it's a Resurgence map. Yeah, that's a bummer for most players, including myself, since I don't really care for the respawn-based gameplay, and it's not even coming at BO7 launch. But that's just the start of it.

Haven's Hollow Resurgence map in Warzone
Screenshot by Destructoid

Warzone is known mainly for its battle royale mode, and it appears that Verdansk will be the main BR experience for some time. Judging by social media, you'd be hard-pressed to find a dedicated Warzone player who's excited about staying on Verdansk for the time being, despite how long gamers pined for its return over the past few years.

The Avalon map that is home to BO7's Endgame campaign mode, along with several multiplayer maps, was expected to be the next BR map added to the game. But since Verdansk was only added earlier this year, it appears that Avalon may be on hold for a while, and Activision seems allergic to having more than one BR map available at a time. And so we stay stuck in 2020 for the time being.

The nostalgia of Verdansk wore off quickly for me, personally, and I imagine it's been similar over the past few months for most players after it launched back in April. Being confined to one map at a time is definitely detrimental to the Warzone experience, but it unfortunately doesn't seem to be changing any time soon.

The good news for CoD is that its yearly release cycle means a new multiplayer and Zombies experience will bring in revenue and keep players sated. But when it comes to Warzone, I think I may sit back and watch from afar until there's a more substantial update to be had, like in season one of BO7 when Verdansk is set to get some POI updates.

https://twitter.com/CallofDuty/status/1973086647441899782

This situation is only exacerbated by the fact that, when I ask friends to play (both casual and hardcore gamers alike), they are wholly uninterested in continuing to play an old map without any substantial updates. So for now, I don't think I'll be dropping in much, with or without the boys, in the foreseeable future.

Update on Sept. 30 at 2:15pm CT: Activision just confirmed that a "new experience" that's "inspired by the original Blackout" battle royale mode from Black Ops 4 will be coming to Warzone in spring 2026. It sounds like it will be its own mode on Avalon, but Verdansk will stick around as the main BR map simultaneously.

Monke in Megabonk

Megabonk might have 20 characters for you to pick from for your run, but few are as fun as Monke.

This character has incredible speed and mobility and offers the ability to climb walls, which is unique. Unlocking him also differs from other characters, as you must find and release him in the Forest. Like every character in Megabonk, you'll want to use a build that suits his strengths and weaknesses.

Best Megabonk Monke build

Here's what I think is the best possible build for the ape in Megabonk.

Type Best Choices Good Choices
Weapons Bananarang (Primary)
Aura
Bone
Katana
Bow
Tomes Quantity
Size
Projectile Speed
HP
Attack Speed
Agility
Damage
Items Forbidden Juice
Holy Book
Gym Sauce
Phantom Shroud
Clover
Slutty Cannon
Anvil

Bananarang is a difficult weapon to master in Megabonk, but it has dual benefits, although you'll have to be very good with your aim. To hit more enemies, you'll have to predict their movements and the trajectory of your weapon.

Bananarang has a great passive, which adds +2 Max HP per level. This also makes a good use-case scenario for Aura, which will naturally generate XP. The more XP you get, the quicker you level up (and hit the highest bonus of +100 max HP at level 50).

Monke in Megabonk
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Bananarang also allows you to climb up walls to reach areas many other characters (and enemies) can't reach. Use this ability to secure such positions and do damage from a distance. I have opted for Bone for its range, but you can also use Katana as the third choice.

Quantity and Size are essential tomes for Monke, considering how the Bananarang works. The former increases the number of attacks you can do, while the latter increases your shots' Size (and damage). Attack Speed and Projectile Speed are also good choices since the Bananarang can sometimes feel slightly sluggish.

Holy Book and Forbidden Juice are mandatory if they spawn on your run. Holy Book buffs your already max HP and regen to new levels, and the more you heal, the more you damage your surrounding enemies. Forbidden Juice, on the other hand, improves the crit chance by +10%. Gym Saunce is also a nice touch with its +10% boost to all forms of damage.

With Monke, you'll always want to plan ahead and use your Monke Grip to get on top of platforms. However, don't remain stuck in one position; pivot to new areas when required. Thankfully, my build has plenty of ways to buff Monke's health in emergencies.

We have you covered if you're looking for more amazing builds to dominate Megabonk.

Close-up of the Ninja in Megabonk.

Megabonk's many characters are certainly one of the game's highlights, with unique designs, weapons, and challenges required to unlock them.

But one character eludes most, quite literally. It can be tedious to unlock and use effectively, given his unique properties. So, here's everything you need to know about the Ninja in Megabonk, including how to unlock him and utilize his abilities to the utmost.

If you want more builds, you can check out our big list of best builds, as well as additional character-specific builds, right here!

How to unlock the Ninja in Megabonk

Katana weapon in Megabonk.
The Katana can only be obtained on the Desert level. Screenshot by Destructoid

Unlocking any given character in Megabonk usually has to do with beating various challenges, either by encountering the character as a boss or by discovering specific items tied to them. To get the Ninja, you'll have to beat the Tier 1 Desert level and unlock the Katana weapon. The former is done easily, and you can do it with whatever character and build you want.

The second part is tricky, since Katanas can only drop from Tumbleweeds on the Desert level, with a five percent chance to drop. Tumbleweeds are temperamental and tend to roll away into the distance, forcing you to chase them or somehow cut them off, which itself is a bit tedious. Even if you do catch up, the Katana has a very low chance of dropping.

However, I found that playing Fox should help you increase those odds, given his increased Luck stat. I am unsure if this is anecdotal, but playing Fox, leveling up a bit, and then activating a Tumbleweed, I got the Katana on my first try, so it's worth a shot.

Once that's done, you'll have to purchase both the Katana and Ninja from their respective Unlocks tab, which should run you about 60 Silver.

Best build for the Ninja in Megabonk

The Ninja character in Megabonk.
The Ninja is an elusive, powerful character that can be loads of fun if played correctly. Screenshot by Destructoid

The Ninja starts with the Katana, an exceptional weapon that slashes one enemy at a time. It's initially quite short-ranged, but it can exponentially grow as you upgrade it. Picking up projectile count buffs will also cause it to slash several enemies at once, or one enemy multiple times, so be sure to focus on that.

Additionally, the Ninja has a passive ability granting him 0.5 percent Evasion per level, as well as the special power to instantly kill enemies whose attacks he evades, making him the ultimate Evasion build enthusiast. So, with all of this in mind, here's the build you should go for to unlock the Ninja's full potential.

Types Best Choices Good Choices
Weapons Katana (primary)
Aura
Sword
Axe
Bone
Tomes Quantity
Damage
Cooldown
Evasion
Attack Speed
Size
Luck
Items Slippery Ring
Phantom Shroud
Backpack
Clover
Forbidden Juice
Gym Sauce

Focus primarily on leveling up the Katana. It's an incredible weapon and one that'll cleave through waves of enemies with ease. By increasing its size and projectile count, it'll be able to slash away dozens of enemies at once, almost guaranteeing you'll survive the level. Aura will make sure enemies suffer if they get too close, while the Sword can and will be a great addition to your overall damage potential.

Evasion is key with the Ninja, that is, if the enemies manage to get close enough to land a hit on you. You can try to force it by running straight into them, but that'd be reckless and could cause you to lose an otherwise great run. Maxing out Evasion will eventually make you nigh-immortal, so there's that.

The Tomes are the least important part of the Ninja's build, but Quantity is a must-have. THE Katana is otherwise quite weak due to its single-target attacks, and even though leveling it will bring extra projectiles, Quantity makes sure that happens immediately and affects every weapon you have.

Cornerstones promo image in FC 26

The Cornerstones promo is the first set of special cards to be released in FC 26 Ultimate Team, and a second team is expected to be released soon.

The first team has introduced plenty of special cards. Most are in packs, but you can get a few from completing SBCs and objectives. So far, EA Sports has remained tight-lipped about which footballers will be featured on the second team. However, we expect leaks to arrive soon, just like the first set before the release.

All FC 26 Cornerstones Team 2 players (predictions)

As of writing on Sept. 30, there are no leaks for Team 2 on social media. Here are my predictions about what cards could be added to the second team of the promo.

  • Pedri
  • Joshua Kimmich
  • Son Heung-Min
  • Alessandro Boungiourno
  • Athenea
  • Fox
  • Aurelien Tchouameni
  • Brian Brobbey
  • Ibanez

These are merely predictions from my mind. They haven't been leaked, nor has EA Sports confirmed they will be added. If last week's events repeat, we should get leaks closer to the release date.

FC 26 Cornerstones Team 2 release date

There's no speculation over when Team 2 cards will be available. The new cards will be added to Ultimate Team on Friday, Oct. 3, the same day Team 1 cards will be removed from the packs.

Once added, you'll have to get lucky with the packs. These include store packs and other options already available in your Ultimate Team. More promo cards will be added via SBCs and objectives, so be on the lookout for them. Unlike pack items, you won't have to depend on luck regarding SBCs and objectives.

A gunman running around a giant Anubis in Megabonk.

CL4NK is my favorite character in Megabonk if I want to deal damage from distance, and there are many builds that could work well with him.

Certain characters inside the game are confusing to use. CL4NK is the exact antithesis. His kit is simple, fun, and offers plenty of range. As long as you can stay away from the enemies, survival will not be a problem. I've also found a great build for him, which I'll lay out below.

If you want more builds, you can check out our best builds in Megabonk article.

Best Megabonk CLANK build

Before we begin our deep dive into the build, we must understand CL4NK's strengths and weaknesses. He has one of the smallest health and armor pools, and you'll be dead pretty quickly if the enemy gets close.

Thankfully, it's a straightforward task to keep enemies away from CL4NK. His best build involves the Revolver, which is his signature weapon. Of course, you'll first need to unlock and purchase a Revolver, which will allow you to unlock CL4NK. To unlock the Revolver, you'll have to kill 7,500 enemies and then buy it for Silver.

Here's a build that offers plenty of success with CL4NK.

Type Best Choices Good Choices
Weapons Revolver
Bone
Lightning Staff
Bow
Bananarang
Bow
Tomes Quantity
Damage
Attack Speed
Projectile Speed
Luck
XP
Items Battery
Gym Sauce
Demonic Soul
Beer
Backpack
Tactical Glasses
Boss Buster

Let's now understand the build in detail. The revolver is an auto-choice and CL4NK's signature weapon. The gun does projectile-based damage from a distance. It fits in perfectly with CL4NK's kits and fires multiple bullets to take down more than one enemy simultaneously.

CL4NK in Megabonk
Screenshot by Destructoid

If you're going for a crit-focused build (which you should), you'll gain +1% crit chance with the Revolver per level. After a while, you'll be guaranteeing crit with every hit. You can't have two Revolvers, so I have gone with Bone. The Bone is excellent at clearing swarms; you don't need to aim.

If you have unlocked more weapon slots from the shops, you can go for the Lightning Staff or the Bananarang. I prefer the former as it can add an element of AoE to your kit. Enemies struck by lightning also freeze temporarily, helping you to keep your distance.

With CL4NK, you'll want to get your tome selection on point. Either Quantity or Damage can work. Quantity will increase the number of projectiles you fire, leading to more damage. If you're using the Revolver+Bone combination, having Quantity should be a priority. The Damage tome can be a good choice if you use a weapon that doesn't fire projectiles. It raises the base damage of all your attacks and scales up with your build.

The Attack Speed tome has been included, keeping Revolver in mind. The Revolver has many strengths, but its rate of fire isn't among them. The Attack Speed tome will take care of that problem. You can go with any three/four options listed above for items. Try to go for options that raise crit damage/damage/attack speed.

CL4NK is at his weakest in the early game. You'll want to keep your distance and constantly move on the map to avoid getting cornered. Your aim is to improve Revolver's damage and attack speed, and go for a solid second weapon that preferably fires projectiles.

Charge Shrines is the best choice on the map as it buffs his weak stats. Moreover, you'll want to avoid wasting any upgrade related to crit chance, which will increase gradually when you level up with CL4NK.

A character surrounded by skeletons in Megabonk.

The Vampire Survivors and Risk of Rain hybrid Megabonk has a ton of characters and items you can use and find to survive the never-ending onslaught. But much like those two games, things have a tendency to get OP really fast.

Coming by most super-powerful items in the game is quite easy, much easier than in, say, Risk of Rain 2, where RNG can really break a run before it's even started. In Megabonk, on the other hand, I've crafted three quick and easy-to-get builds that should get you through most of the game, if it doesn't crash from all the effects covering your entire screen.

The best Megabonk builds

SWORD

Players running from enemies in Megabonk
Sir Oofie is ideal for this build due to his starting weapon. Screenshot by Destructoid

This is by far the simplest of all the builds on this list, but is nevertheless powerful enough to clear any given zone under the right circumstances. Keep in mind, things will depend a bit on RNG, but attaining these items should secure your run's prospects super early:

  • Character: Sir Oofie
  • First Weapon: Sword
  • Second Weapon: Aegis
  • Third Weapon: Chunkers
  • Fourth Weapon: Any
  • First Tome: Size
  • Second Tome: Quantity
  • Items: Your choice, but prioritize Demonic Soul, Power Gloves, and Mirror

This build, as the name implies, heavily relies on your Sword, which is why we've chosen Sir Oofie for it. He starts with the Sword and can start leveling it immediately. Focus on gaining more and more projectiles for the sword (and the other weapons), while increasing the knockback, size, and damage it does. After several upgrades, you should have so many sword swipes covering such a large area that standing and doing nothing will become a viable strategy.

If you wish to achieve the latter as fast as possible, try to find the Idle Juice, which can double your damage so long as you're standing still. Shield Tome can also come in handy instead of Quantity or Size Tomes (or alongside them, if you have extra Tome space), enabling you to just stand and watch everything around you die. Even if they do get close, they'll be reflected by Aegis, Chunkers, and Mirror, making you nigh-immortal.

Bullet Hell

A gunman running around a giant Anubis in Megabonk.
CL4NK starts with a Revolver, so he's the perfect choice for this build. Image via vedinad

This build prioritizes projectile quantity and bounces, with a single shot cleaving through several enemies with ease. It does require a lot of damage, meaning you'll have to pursue charge-up shrines and pray you get damage boosts. Even if you don't get too many damage upgrades, the sheer number of bullets will make quick work of most enemy groups, but you could face trouble against single targets like bosses.

  • Character: CL4NK
  • First Weapon: Revolver
  • Second Weapon: Bone
  • Third Weapon: Bananarang
  • Fourth Weapon: Bow
  • First Tome: Quantity
  • Second Tome: Projectile Speed
  • Items: Battery, Gym Sauce, Demonic Soul, Beer, Backpack, Tactical Glasses, Boss Buster

With this build, the majority of the screen will be covered in projectiles of all kinds, turning your game into pure chaos. Most enemies should die instantly, and with so many projectiles running around, piercing and bouncing and hitting multiple enemies at once, you should have very few opponents walking toward you at any given time.

The items I've recommended all increase your damage, which should be a number one priority aside from attack speed and projectile count, as it'll help you with boss fights where single enemies can have millions of HP. Crit chance and critical damage increases also help a ton, so you should pay attention to grabbing those if possible.

One Lucky Fox

Various items in Megabonk.
The outcome of this build is unpredictable. Screenshot by Destructoid

This build is highly unconventional, as it relies on the innate ability of Fox. He gains Luck with each level, which can be further increased via passive upgrades. This build, therefore, is based on Luck and only on Luck, and can be significantly altered with RNG.

The items you will need are the Clover and Luck Tome. The latter can be a bit harder to come by, as it's based on... luck and drop rates. Anyhow, prioritize leveling up as much as possible at first, only boosting Fox's starting weapon and maybe adding the Lightning Staff as well. Those two should serve you well, while I do recommend getting Crit Chance if you happen to see it.

Once you've leveled up a lot, you can start visiting Shrines and Vendors, which the increased Luck stat will substantially improve. Every chest should have a hugely improved chance to drop something super powerful. Giant Fork is one example, giving Critical Strikes a chance to Critically Strike and become Megacrits (good if you went down that route). Overpowered Lamp is another, making on-hit effects proc twice. Big Bonk gives a chance for a x20 multiplier on attacks, and so on.

While these items can drop on their own, Fox has the greatest odds of getting them in the game, gaining Luck passively as well as through charge-up Shrines and items. With these rare items, you'll have literally no way of losing, especially if you get multiple and have a lot of attack speed and projectiles to roll them constantly.

Ultimate AFK bonking

Megachad's abilities and stats in Megabonk.
Megachad has the perfect starting skills for this build. Screenshot by Destructoid

The essence of any good roguelite is getting so OP and strong that you don't have to do anything and still win. While some builds above will help you achieve that, we can make it even more busted, to the point of allowing you to clear the AFK Challenge in the game.

  • Character: Megachad or Sir Oofie. These two are tanky, have good armor, and can deflect damage if enemies happen to come too close. I'd say the former is better for this build (the developer even used it in the game's promo), because of his starting weapon, Aura. It's an AOE damage weapon that wrecks anything that stands within its radius, making it perfect for an AFK run.
  • First Weapon: Aura
  • Second Weapon: Sword
  • Third Weapon: Axe
  • Fourth Weapon: Lightning Staff
  • First Tome: Quantity
  • Second Tome: Cooldown or Size
  • Items: Gym Sauce, Campfire, Idle Juice, Demonic Soul, Power Gloves, Thunder Mitts, Beer, Battery

With these four weapons, buffed by a Quantity Tome, you'll have so many projectiles around you it's not even funny. Nothing will be able to even come close to you, let alone do damage, and you should be able to wreck just about any enemy in no time. The second Tome (or third, if you've got space) will buff your size further, making the projectiles cover an incredible area, further keeping enemies away. Battery can substitute the Cooldown Tome, but only go for it if nothing else dropped.

Alternatively, you can opt for the Damage Tome to ensure enemies die quickly enough, though the sheer number of projectiles will make short work of most.

On the other hand, items like Idle Juice are tailor-made for an AFK run and, combined with Demonic Soul, can amplify your damage by 200 percent total, which is a stacking bonus only growing in power as your weapons are leveled up.

Can't touch this

Calcium in Megabonk.
Calcium is the right... skelly for the job. Screenshot by Destructoid

But how about a build that's so fast it makes you functionally invulnerable? And what's more, how about a character whose damage output scales with speed? Yeah, this build is an amazing one, and I can't think of anything more fun or easier than it.

  • Character: Calcium, the Skateboarding Skeleton.
  • First Weapon: Bone
  • Second Weapon: Bananarang
  • Third Weapon: Flamewalker
  • First Tome: (Absolutely mandatory) Agility
  • Other Tomes: Any
  • Items: Coward's Cloak, Turbo Socks, Phantom Shroud, Slippery Ring, any offensive or defensive item based on preference, but these four are mandatory.

Calcium is a speed demon in Megabonk, with his passive ability literally called Speed Demon. It grants him bonus movement speed so long as he doesn't take damage, and if he does, it's reduced by half. Additionally, the passive scales Calcium's damage with movement speed, meaning the faster you go, the stronger you get. This is why you'd want all the movement speed buffs possible, no matter what they are, as well as tons of evasion, given that taking damage slows you down significantly.

Bone and Bananarang will ensure you dish out tons of damage, but be mindful of their projectile speeds. If you have two Tome slots, I suggest taking Quantity alongside Agility, but if you can fit three in, I advise taking the Projectile Speed Tome as well.

At any rate, this build will make you zoom across the stage like there's no tomorrow, dishing out some incredible damage along the way. Buffing your jumps with items can also be beneficial but deadly, given that your speed will cause some pretty unbelievable acrobatics.

A two-panel image with Robinette arriving in and attacking in Forest Tier 2

Robinette is a great character pick to advance through the Forest high tiers in Megabonk. Her starting Jump Height is the only starting stat that's slightly higher than other characters, but her passive Stonks skill, which increases her damage based on total Gold in the inventory, makes her special.

Robinette starts with a bow, which is a clear hint that she synergizes well with other projectile weapons. Here are the best Weapons, Tomes, and Items that make the best build for Robinette.

Best Weapons, Tomes, and Items for Robinette

Build Best Good
Weapons Bow (Starter)
Bananarang
Aegis
Revolver
Axe
Firestaff
Tomes Gold Tome
XP Tome
Cursed Tome
Quantity Tome
Agility Tome
Cooldown Tome
Luck Tome
Items Moldy Cheese
Golden Glove
Backpack
Golden Sneakers
Golden Shield
Phantom Shroud

The best weapons for Robinette are Bananrang, Revolver, and Aegis. The first two items are projectile-based, which will synergize well with her bow and some of the Tomes she can use. Aegis is the protection most ranged characters need to survive, and it's the best pick for Robinette since Quantity upgrades also increase the number of shields it spawns. Axe and Firestaff are decent alternatives, though they're not as good as Bananarang and Revolver.

Robinette works best with Gold, Quantity, XP, and Cursed Tomes. Gold Tome is a no-brainer when you see it, since it gives you more gold and increases damage thanks to her Stonks passive. Quantity is an amazing pick if you have all the best weapons I've recommended, since they are all ranged and get extra projectiles from Quantity. XP, Cursed, and Luck Tomes are great picks to let Robinette's level and power scale as fast as enemies' for Tiers 2 and 3, so choosing any two out of these three Tomes is recommended.

Focus on items that give Robinette more damage, projectiles, and gold, such as Moldy Cheese, Golden Glove and Sneakers, and Backpack. Golden Shield is a niche pick because you don't want to get hit using Robinette, but it might be useful to get extra gold when hit in some builds. Phantom Shroud is great if you're aiming for high evasion.

Utility from Shrines you should pick includes extra jumps, movement speed, and projectile speed. Remember to also break as many pots as you can during your runs to increase your gold and Robinette's damage.

When to spend gold using Robinette

I've found it useful to spend gold with Robinette early, until chests cost more than 150 gold. Then, I start holding gold to get the Stonks bonus and only spend it again when I'm hoarding it like a dragon, when a chest costs 10 to 20% of my total gold, around the 1,500 to 2,000 gold mark. This way, I can get new items but don't lose much damage from spending gold in the process.
