Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 9, 2025 11:54 AM ![]() Battlefield 6's launch day patch was promised to be a big one, and EA weren't lying. The full notes have just arrived ahead of the shooter's launch tomorrow, October 10th. They're over 2700 words long. That's about double the length of my last feature, but solely dedicated to stuff like recoil and times to murderdeath. If you played the beta, is there anything left you'll actually recognise when you fire up the full version? I've no idea, to be honest, they could have hidden a line about swapping every character model for Mr Bean in here and I'd likely have struggled to clock it. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 9, 2025 11:00 AM ![]() All hail the Battlefools! They fan out efficiently from spawn and are instantly massacred in a hail of rifle fire and grenades. Arguments erupt in the chat. Who's watching the flanks? Were you watching the flanks? I'm not supposed to watch flanks, I'm an engineer - my two defining passions are blowing tanks up and fixing them, a clash of loyalties that routinely gets me run over. You're a recon - shouldn't you be reconnoitring? Blame gives way to frantic improvisation as the attackers turn defender. People switch classes, get cut down, switch classes again. Support players plant lines of barricades that somehow avail them nothing against the snipers. Squad leaders ping the objective icon furiously, like babies banging the arms of their prams. One squad tries crawling behind a line of parked cars and is promptly squished by hammer-wielding exterminators. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 9, 2025 8:14 AM ![]() Following Microsoft's mass layoffs earlier this year, a group of former ZeniMax developers have formed a worker-owned studio dubbed Sackbird. Made up of folks who worked on The Elder Scrolls Online and a cancelled MMO codenamed Blackbird, the studio have confirmed they're working on an unnamed original game that'll hit PC and consoles. Zenimax's Blackbird project was one of numerous games cancelled as Microsoft laid of around 9,000 staff in July, with the ZeniMax Online Studios United union left fighting for the jobs of members affected. Bloomberg subsequently reported that Blackbird was a sci-fi noir-ish third-person shooter with looty bits and lots of vertical movement. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 9, 2025 6:44 AM ![]() You might remember that a little while ago, Bethesda announced an auction which'd see the winner given the chance to design a character in The Elder Scrolls 6. Bids were donations to the charity Make-A-Wish, and narrowly missing out on top spot was one from the folks behind the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages, the series' long-running and very good independent wiki. The good news is that those folks how now met with Bethesda and had the chance to design their NPC, which'll be a memorial to a forum user whose roleplaying has crossed paths with official Elder Scrolls lore. |

Square Enix announced a FFVII Remake Intergrade & Rebirth Twin Pack that includes both available parts of the Final Fantasy remake, but it is only for the PS5 now. The company said it is only selling it via its official storefront at the moment, though the link to the product page is broken as of time of writing on the US storefront. (The European one is live for £59.99.) It bundles physical copies of both games together for $59.99/€69.99.
Both of these FFVII Remake games are already available physically on the PS5 outside of the new twin pack. Remake Intergrade typically goes for at most $39.99, while Rebirth goes for at most $49.99. The Twin Pack normally is $99.99 digitally on the PlayStation Store, though a sale that makes it $59.99 is in effect until October 23, 2025. On Steam, the PC bundle with both games is still showing for $99.99.
This collection is just a means of getting both games at once. There are no additional or special features included in the twin pack that differentiate the versions of the JRPGs in the bundle from their standard releases.
Here's how the cover art looks:
![]()
This collection is a PS5 exclusive for now. It's unknown if we could eventually see a similar release once Square Enix announces possible FFVII Rebirth Switch 2 and Xbox Series X versions. FFVII Remake Intergrade comes to both of those consoles in January 2026.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, with the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X versions arriving on January 22, 2026, and FFVII Rebirth can be found on the PS5 and PC, and the PS5 Twin Pack with physical copies of both games is out now.

Nintendo updated its Japanese site for the Alarmo alarm clock to confirm that Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World alarms and imagery is now available on the device. It is a free download for owners of the device.
The official site confirmed that this Alarmo update includes seven alarms based on songs from the Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World. Samples of three are teased on the page for it. The page also highlights some of the images, which show him alongside Elfilin or working at the restaurant in Waddle Dee Town. One of the songs confirmed is a variant of "Waddle Dee Town," and another is one of the tracks from the expansion in which Kirby is searching for a Starry. All three of the examples, which are "ネイチェル草原でワドルディ救出," "ワドルディの町とカービィハウス," and "バネほおばりでスターリー救出," don't appear on the existing Kirby and the Forgotten Land: The Complete Soundtrack.
As for Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World, a code appeared on social media to celebrate the release. If you enter "ALARMOWITHKIRBY," you get 500 Star Coins, a Rare Stone, and 300 Starry Coins.
Here's that announcement:
The Alarmo alarm clock is available worldwide and got a Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World update. That Kirby game is available on the Switch and Switch 2, though the Star-Crossed World expansion is limited to the Switch 2.

Wind And Sea has revealed that it will hold a Halloween event themed after PaRappa the Rapper at its Gotemba outlet in Japan. The event will, however, take place on October 11-13, 2025, which would be around three weeks earlier than the actual Halloween day.
The outlet will have photo and merchandise booths set up for the duration of the event. Costume mascots of PaRappa and PJ Berry will also appear at the venue.
Visitors to the event can receive a free Tirol Choco block with special packaging while stocks last. The merchandise booth will feature purchasable goods like apparel and plushies, and those who make any purchase there can also get a bonus sticker of PaRappa with a Halloween-themed hat for free.

This event will be based on one of Sony PlayStation's classic entries. PaRappa the Rapper originally appeared on the first PlayStation in 1996 in Japan and 1997 in the West. Sony would then bring the game to PlayStation Portable ten years later and PlayStation 4 in 2017.
Sony has also been sporadically producing PaRappa-themed merchandise in recent years. It set up a temporary pop-up store in 2022 and worked with Amnibus in 2023.
The PaRappa the Rapper Halloween event in Japan will take place at Wind And Sea Gotemba in Shizuoka Prefecture from October 11 to 13, 2025.

The results of the character popularity poll for The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy are out. Protagonist Takumi Sumino did not take first place as most popular person. Instead, that honor went to supporting The Hundred Line character Eito Aotsuki. Dengeki Online has put together a list of the top ten characters in the game, as voted by fans. [Thanks, Dengeki Online!]
Here are The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy character popularity poll results, with Eito Aotsuki and Takumi Sumino as the two most popular ones:
Each character has comments from their voters explaining why they voted for him. While these comments occasionally mention specific routes that the characters play a major part in (such as saying how much they liked Yugamu in Killing Game Route—pretty much the only route that delves deeper into his character and shows a lot of interactions between him and Takumi), there aren't any major spoilers. Even for Eito, people merely talked about how terrible yet awesome he is without revealing any major details about his story.
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy came out in April 2025, and is a collaborative work between Kazutaka Kodaka (Danganronpa) and Kotaro Uchikoshi (Zero Escape). It's a combination SRPG and visual novel with a hundred endings to collect, with more possibly on the way through DLC. It follows a group of students who live in the Tokyo Residential Complex, only to find themselves under attack by strange alien creatures. After Sirei, an odd mascot-like creature, helps them fight back, they're transported to Last Defense Academy. There, they must defend the school from invaders for a hundred days so that they can protect the world from destruction.
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is readily available on the Windows PC and Nintendo Switch.

Generally with a sequel to an established game, you expect more of the same, but perhaps on a larger scale. It's why the number of total creatures goes up in every Pokemon game and the map sizes or number of activities go up. There's some of that with Slime Rancher 2 compared to the original, but for the most part there's a shift in focus that sets it apart. Rather than exploring a colorful world and leisurely capturing slimes, it's more focused on hitting material quotas so you can create new equipment or pens and then get more slimes and areas so you can meet ever increasing demands. At the same time, I feel like the game starts with the assumption that we're familiar with Beatrix LeBeau and her mission in a way that makes it a little less accessible than the original.
Beatrix LeBeau is called to the Far Far Range to once again manage a ranch of slimes following unusual actions at Rainbow Island. There's an odd energy there and new species of slimes! But said energy is actually causing some sort of agitation. So in addition to creating and maintaining a conservatory for research and plort-collecting purposes, we're also exploring Rainbow Island and its Grey Labyrinth to figure out what's going on and use all of the skills Beatrix is known for to ensure everything is peaceful and slimes can live happily.
Right from the outset, I felt like Slime Rancher 2 assumed I knew of the original game and played it. Which is understandable, but it does mean I felt there wasn't the same degree of handholding and introductions that were present in the initial entry. We are expected to know who Beatrix is. We're expected to know what a Rancher is. We're expected to know who her friends and associates are. We're expected to know the general routine of head out into the wilds to collect resources, return to spend them and tend to our Slimes, then head back out. I'm a little surprised this didn't come up in early access, as it seems odd we need to invest so many in-game days before certain elements and mechanics are really explained. Especially since the focus is on collecting X number of Y materials to create things.
For those unfamiliar, mechanics are fairly simple. When Beatrix heads out into the world, we use her Vacpack to suck up items and shoot them back out again. (Water can also be acquired and expelled.) Getting past certain large slimes involves feeding them their food of choice (such as meat or certain veggies). We'll also need to collect items in our inventory to create gadgets, pen upgrades for slimes, sell, and care for characters. It can also be a means of creating hybrid slimes via plort exposure.

Speaking of which, inventory management is more of an issue in Slime Rancher 2. I found that odd, considering this is a game so focused on using the Vacpack to constantly suck up slimes, their plorts, food, and materials to constantly check off ever increasing lists of items to create or unlock access to things. For example, even getting into the Grey Labyrinth means getting 50 pieces of meat, 30 nectar, 20 Lava Dust, 20 Silky Sand, 40 Boom plorts, 40 Hunter plorts, and 2,000 Newbucks money, which is a lot! Especially considering we only can have up to six Vac Tanks, which translates to six inventory spaces, and you can't even get that sixth one until getting to Ember Valley and need to upgrade all Tank inventories to even hold 30 of one item. That maxes out at 100 items per slot, from what I've seen.
Slimes remain a major focus. They are great, and Slime Rancher 2 delivers on offering a wide array of over 20, not counting the hybrids. The new ones are quite cute, such as the Angler Slime and Cotton Slime, and they fit in well alongside returning species. I appreciate the distinction in behaviors when it comes to toys they like and foods they enjoy, though, as well as the unique conditions that can arise with situations such as the Yolky Slime. They remain colorful and cute, and I found myself enjoying collecting and caring for them. So much so that I would have loved to see even more. I also feel there's a good balance between possible threats, like the Tarr that can occur from overfeeding slimes, feral variants, and ones that can just be dangerous via existing like Boom Slimes.

I also appreciated how large the Rainbow Island region is here. It's a big map with a lot to unlock! For those familiar with the original, I would say it is more complex to navigate and I found it took me longer to find my bearings than the original game. At times I appreciated that, as it made things seem more realistic and like Beatrix really ended up doing more exploring and investigating. However, since this is a more grind-heavy game about collecting resources so you can feed Gordos, create gadgets, access new areas, and even prepare some Quantum Drones for acquistion automations, it could get frustrating when I needed to complete certain tasks and hadn't set up teleporters.
Slime Rancher 2 is an entertaining game and does offer a lot to do, but I enjoyed the more relaxed original entry more. The best comparison I can offer is that the first game felt like exploring a cozy area and taking my time collecting slimes. With the second, I feel more beholden to the inventory limitations and as though I'm playing to constantly collect resources to tick boxes. There's nothing wrong with that kind of grind, and some folks might appreciate that increase in intensity. I do think it changes the general atmosphere and ambiance from the original experience in a way that might not make upgrading worthwhile for those who really loved the first title.
Slime Rancher 2 is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Scooby Doo might not have been the bravest of companions on the screen, but he can be your 'best mate' on the island in Fortnite.
Added as part of the Fortnitemares event, you can find and recruit the Great Dane to fight by your side. He even wears a Halloween-themed costume to match the vibes, and he can be invaluable as well. This guide will help you recruit Scooby without having to bribe him at all with Scooby Snacks.
Table of contents
Scooby Doo location in Fortnite
Scooby is located in the Viney Shafts region, and in the northern part, to be precise. You can also reach the location from Bugswatter Beach. Alternatively, just drop in the location marked by Shaggy on the map, as Scooby will be in the same place.
![]()
When you reach the location, you'll find a supermarket. Head inside, and Scooby and Shaggy will be waiting for you. You can chat with Shaggy to solve his quest, which rewards you with 10,000 seasonal XP. Alternatively, you can just interact with Scooby to hire him as your companion. To do so, you'll need to have a fair amount of Gold with you.
How to recruit Scooby Doo in Fortnite
You can recruit Scooby Doo by spending 600 Gold, which is the usual amount for hiring NPCs. You can also choose to heal yourself from him if you're not at full health. Scooby can do a fair amount of damage when fighting by your side, which is excellent if you find yourself alone on the map.
Do note that his location can be spawned by enemies, since there's also a stalkbox that spawns close to it. Hence, you can expect a fair number of enemies to be at the location, and it's better to suit up accordingly.

Answering the phone in two Stalkboxes in Fortnite is part of the Fortnitemares 2025 quests. These Stalkboxes are nothing more than black phone booths spread around the map, and all you have to do once you find them is interact to enter them and transform into Ghostface.
Here's where you can potentially find Stalkboxes in Fortnite's Chapter 6, season 4:
Map with Stalkbox locations in Fortnite
![]()
The locations of Stalkboxes appear to be random and vary across different rounds. They can spawn at any of the POIs on the map, along with areas around them. However, the spawns will be random, and the locations you see in the screenshot above are based on our runs.
It's highly possible that you could also find a stalkbox in one of the locations mentioned in our guide. However, the stalkbox spawns on your run could also be different. As a guide, you should always check out areas with pumpkin decorations near them.
We will update more locations as we discover them. It's also important to know what the stalkboxes do before you find them and take the extra risk.
When you enter a Stalkbox, your character will turn into Ghostface and receive the Legendary weapon Last Call. This weapon is a knife in the right hand and a telephone on the right. If you use your primary fire, Ghostface will stab enemies with the knife, while the secondary fire will ring the phone and mark nearby enemies.
For this quest in particular, you don't have to kill enemies using Last Call. But since you've already got that far, it's best to try and slash seven different players with the knife to complete another Fortnitemares quest.

Overwatch 2 season 19 Mythic skins
Season 19's Mythic skin is Divine Druid Lifeweaver, with an additional second one coming at midseason with Cyber Fuel Junkrat.
"From the ashes, springs new growth," Blizzard said. "Lifeweaver rises as the Divine Druid, blessed by nature and draped in the aura of life. He casts his heavenly Biolight across the battlefield to restore and protect our world from darkness. From the start, you'll unlock his final Mythic form, then gather new colors, accessories, ambient effects, and haunting VFX/SFX as you progress. It's a living, breathing, Mythical rebirth, and one of the most stunning skins that has ever blossomed."
This season's Mythic weapon is Kiriko's Spirit Keeper.

BOO! Overwatch 2's new update is all about Halloween and the fun that comes with: Season 19, Haunted Masquerade will ratchet up the scares when it launches next week.
The main highlights of the new season are the Mythic Lifeweaver skin, Divine Druid, and a Mythic weapon skin for Kiriko called Spirit Keeper. Both are available with Mythic Prisms that can be earned in the new spooky-themed battle pass. A third Mythic, Cyber Fuel Junkrat, will come midseason.
![]()
But in the end, day one of the season is all about Haunted Masquerade, which is a new limited-time mode that involves mythical masks of other heroes that each hero can wear, granting buffs where you can "dress up as any actively allied heroes and acquire special abilities based on whose mask you wear."
"Some masks grant special benefits when paired with specific lore-linked heroes, pulling from iconic Overwatch moments like Reinhardt and Brigitte bracing their shields together," Blizzard explained. "That means some masks are more than power or plays, they're a chance to catch a glimpse of your Heroes' stories and channel their bonds for the win."
Classic Halloween Terror LTM events are also returning, including Junkenstein's Revenge and Wrath of the Bride, offering a taste of nostalgia for the series in these PvE-specific events where players can team up in co-op to take on the horrors.
On the Stadium front, Torbjörn, Hazard, and Sojourn join the unique mode's roster of heroes, along with a new Busan Sanctuary Control map, and several upgrades for the armory's inventory UI. Another new feature called Gadgets, an addition to the existing Powers and Items to further customize the experience.
![]()
All of this and more, including a late season trial for season 20's new hero will arrive when OW2 season 19, Haunted Masquerade, begins on Oct. 14. You can catch a quick glimpse of the new hero, who seems to be a female gladiator-like character, at the very end of season 19's trailer.

You need to find Doja Cat, or The Mother of Thorns, if you want to complete the quest "Pull Consumables with the Thorn Ripper" in Fortnite. The Thorn Ripper is her signature Mythic weapon, which means you have to find the Mother of Thorns mini-boss, defeat her, and grab this item when she drops it.
Then, with the Thorn Ripper in hand, all you have to do is hold the secondary fire to make the weapon spin, aim at a consumable on the ground, and press the primary fire without releasing the weapon. It will make the Thorn Ripper extend to the area you were aiming for and pull whatever items were there closer to your character, just like in the GIF below.
![]()
Here's a more detailed breakdown of how to complete this quest in Fortnite.
Table of contents
How to complete the Pull Consumables with the Thorn Ripper quest
Step 1 - Find the Mother of Thorns
You can get the Thorn Ripper by defeating the Mother of Thorns in any POI that's Halloween-themed. These areas have a blue aura on the map and are filled with pumpkins and thorns, so they're easy to spot.
The Mother of Thorns is a random spawn, which means she may not show up in these areas in certain matches. If you can't find her, either go somewhere else or start new matches until she's where you're dropping. Some of the areas where she may appear are:
Step 2 - Defeat the Mother of Thorns
Once you spot The Mother of Thorns, simply aim for her head and unload all your weapons on her. She's slow and easy to kill, so simply having 50 shield should be more than enough to 1v1 her. Once you get the win, she will drop the Thorn Ripper. Grab it.
Step 3 - Pull consumables
With the Thorn Ripper in your inventory, hold the secondary fire button (usually the same one you use to aim down sights). The weapon will start spinning. Now, without releasing it, press the primary fire button, which is the one you use to actually shoot weapons. You'll see the Thorn Ripper flying forward and coming back, and that's the action you want to make.
Look for consumable items on the ground—Shield potions, Med Kits, or Bandages. If nothing's available, drop one from your inventory. Aim at it and pull five times. That's it! The quest counts each pull action, so you can target the same item repeatedly instead of finding multiple consumables or actually using them.
The quest will then be shown as complete, and you can shift to other missions like answering calls on the Stalkbox.

The first set of Fortnitemares quests is now live in Fortnite, and one such task requires you to hit a specific number of players with Last Call.
If you're a fan of horror movies and haven't been living under a rock, you'll know precisely what this quest requires you to do. If not, this guide will erase your confusion, and help you to finish the task as swiftly as possible.
How to hit players with Last Call in Fortnite
There are three new POIs on the map as part of the Fortnitemares event. One of them converts you into Ghostface and empowers you with the Last Call. Ghostface's signature slasher knife has made its way over to the island, and it can be a lethal addition to your arsenal.
Once you have obtained the Last Call in your hand, slash players at least seven times to complete the quest. It's not necessary to kill an enemy with your hit, and you can also strike the same enemy multiple times as part of your quest progression.
Let's find out how you can turn into Ghostface.
![]()
How to become Ghostface in Fortnite
You can change into Ghostface by entering a telephone booth, aka Stalkbox, on the map. You'll come out as Ghostface, having the Last Call weapon in your right hand. You can press the left mouse button and use the knife to slash enemies. Pressing the secondary fire will activate the phone and mark nearby enemies.
![]()
While you'll change into your character after an interval, the Ghostface state offers huge boosts to your in-game offensive abilities and can be crucial to outlast your opponents.

The Mystery Machine broke down, so now Fred and the rest of the Mystery Inc. crew don't have a way to get around in Fortnite. Luckily, you can help them repair their sweet ride by completing Fred's found quest.
In this mission, you must track down various missing parts of the Mystery Machine. It's one of the tougher tasks you'll encounter, so here's how to complete Fred's found quest in Fortnite.
Table of contents
How to help Fred in Fortnite
![]()
To complete Fred's found quest, you need to collect the missing tires for the Mystery Machine and salvage engine parts by searching junk piles. All the parts you need can be found fairly close to where Fred is hanging out, which is on a bridge slightly east of Ranger's Rest. In total, there are five missing pieces you need to find and return to Fred.
This found quest doesn't track your progress across matches, so getting it done quickly is key. If you get killed in the middle of it, you have to start over again in the next round. Try to plan ahead and grab some solid loot that will help keep you alive before you start tackling this one.
Collect the missing tires of the Mystery Machine in Fortnite
Your first task is to find two missing tires for the Mystery Machine. Start at the Mystery Machine where Fred is standing, then head west down the road that leads over to Ranger's Rest.
As you walk down the road, look slightly right to find the first tire sitting near the edge of it. Approach it and select the button that appears next to the word "Collect" to acquire it. Follow the road a bit further down, then look left to find the second tire near the curve close to the entrance of Ranger's Rest.
![]()
Salvage engine parts by searching junk piles in Fortnite
Your next mission is to find and salvage three engine parts from junk piles. All three junk piles are located over at Ranger's Rest, so start by heading down the road that leads over to this POI. It's just a short walk away from where Fred is, and you should already be in the right area if you just finished grabbing the tires.
At the bottom of the road, make a sharp right to find the first junk pile near a barricade. Approach this pile and press the button that pops up next to the phrase "Search for engine parts" when you're right next to it.
Look slightly left of where you're standing to find the second junk pile just a few feet away. Once you've got this one, make a sharp left and start heading toward the water. Look for the white diamond icon along the way to find the third junk pile near another barricade.
![]()
Deliver the items to Fred in Fortnite
With the three engine parts and two tires gathered, head back up the road to meet up with Fred. Interact with him to deliver all the items you obtained. As soon as you do, the Mystery Machine will be fixed, and Fred's found quest will be complete.
The rest of the gang has some tricky missions for you to tackle, too. Next, you might work on Daphne's found quest or Velma's found quest. If you're looking to experience more of what Fortnitemares has to offer, consider finding and beating the Mother of Thorns Doja Cat or becoming Ghostface next.

Mystery Inc. has now arrived on the island in Fortnite, and you can help Shaggy quell his hunger during the Fortnitemares event.
To help Shaggy, you'll first have to locate him on the island. This guide will help you find his precise location (the game just gives you a clue about the location of all four Mystery Inc. members). Let's find out how to complete Shaggy's personal quest in Fortnite.
Where to find Shaggy in Fortnite
Shaggy is located in Viney Shafts, but in the north-western part of the map. You can also reach his location by landing at Bugswatter Beach. Alternatively, just pin the location shown in the screenshot below, and you will be able to find Shaggy without any problem at all.
![]()
You'll find a supermarket in the location marked on the screenshot. Go in through the door, and you'll discover Shaggy having a frown on his face. Click on the exclamation mark, and he will tell you what you have to do to help him.
How to complete Shaggy's found quest in Fortnite
Shaggy's quest is simple, as you'll have to bake him his favorite burger. Here are the three tasks.
![]()
The three ingredients are highlighted, and you can find them in the supermarket. Head over to the grill, and press the E button to bake the burger. Pick the burger up and interact with Shaggy to hand him the item. This will complete Shaggy's found quest and reward you with 10,000 XP.
If you're looking for more rewards, you can also complete Velma and Daphne's found quests on the side.

Two of Call of Duty's major pain points for players over the past few years have finally, mercifully been addressed, and it's all because of the players.
This morning, Treyarch and Activision announced that Black Ops 7 will launch with "minimal skill consideration" as the default playlist for all multiplayer games, and lobbies will now remain persistent and no longer disband after each match, bringing the series full circle back to some of what made it great in the past.
![]()
This past weekend in the BO7 beta, Treyarch and Activision finally pressed the big red button, removing the sweatiest skill-based matchmaking algorithm that has plagued the series for years and replacing it with one that considers skill minimally. And the difference has been stark.
"Simply put, imagine the matchmaking experience of Open Moshpit from the beta, but as the standard in Black Ops 7 on day one," Treyarch said. "Our team feels strongly about providing players with a more varied experience, and the beta proved to be a great opportunity to test this approach."
In CoD's early days, rivalries and fun would form in lobbies that stayed persistent. Over the past several games, though, the lobbies would break up after each match, constantly matching players with new opponents. The companies have heard the complaints on that, too, and now lobbies will remain persistent in BO7 as well.
Another big point of contention, aim assist, will also be addressed at BO7's launch. Treyarch said it has "seen the discussions about rotational aim assist and community questions about how aim assist will be tuned across inputs in BO7," confirming that "it's a priority of ours to have a fair and competitive balance across all input devices at launch, and we'll be sharing more about changes coming to aim assist on controller ahead of launch."
The constant complaining about SBMM over the years has consistently been a top discussion in the community since 2019. The fact that Treyarch is finally letting off of the gas and letting players enjoy themselves without matching up against OpTic Gaming after a decent game is tremendous news.
![]()
Things may change over time, as the reduced SBMM could end up having an adverse effect on a sect of the playerbase. But for now, with genre competition in Battlefield 6 looming, CoD has made some changes that will make many players happy, and I will take that W for now.

We're just over halfway through the Pokémon Go Tales of Transformation season, and as we barrel towards Halloween and some fun new events, we also have the Jungle Cup to look forward to. So, we're breaking down the best teams for the Jungle Cup in Pokémon Go to get you ready for the battle.
Best Pokémon for the Jungle Cup Great League in Pokémon Go
Much like other takes on the Pokémon Go Great League, this Jungle Cup demands your Pokémon have a CP of 1500 or below. Plus, only Pokémon with the Normal, Grass, Electric, Poison, Ground, Flying, Bug, and Dark-type Pokémon are allowed. Finally, the Pokémon Gligar and Galarian Stunfisk are banned.
One of the most powerful Pokémon in this cup is Altaria (Dragon Breath, Sky Attack, Flamethrower), as the Flying-type works great against Grass and Bug-type Pokémon, while Dragon brings a good suite of resistances. Sky Attack here helps put pressure on Pokémon like Forretress and Scizor, while Flamethrower helps to tackle the constant threat that is Corviknight.
If you want to run Altaria, one of the best teammates is Cradily (Acid, Rock Tomb, Grass Knot). This Rock and Bug-type fossil Pokémon can use Acid to threaten Fairy-type Pokémon like Togekiss, while Rock-tomb actually helps take out opposing Altaria and the aforementioned Corviknight. Not to mention, Rock-type moves are a massive problem for Talonflame.
Finally, a good way to round things out is with the ever-reliable Clodsire (Poison Sting, Earthquake, Stone Edge), as the Paldean Poison-type is also a Ground-type, and has a fantastic set of resistances. Earthquake, especially, is always a powerful move, but it is even deadlier with that STAB bonus, causing huge problems for Steelix.
Some other great picks include Diggersby (Diggersby, Scorching Sands, Fire Punch), which can cause a lot of problems for Grass, Bug, and Steel-type Pokémon thanks to access to both Fire Punch and Scorching Steps. Meanwhile, Piloswine (Powder Snow, Icicle Spear, Stone Edge) can use Ice-type moves like Powder Snow and Icicle Spear to cause problems for Dragon-types like Altaria and Guzzlord.
Here are the best Pokémon for the Jungle Cup Great League meta.

Mystery Inc. has arrived on the island in Fortnite, and they've brought with them plenty of special quests for you to tackle. One of the missions you need to get done to help them out is Velma's found quest.
Velma's lost an important item, and she needs your help to recover it. Surprisingly, it's not her glasses that she lost this time, but it's still essential that you help her find what she's looking for. Here's how to complete Velma's found quest in Fortnite.
How to help Velma in Fortnite
![]()
To help Velma out and complete her found quest, you need to find her missing magnifying glass. It's a very small item, and the marker for it on the map doesn't help you narrow down its location. I actually found the marker to be a bit off and misleading from where you need to venture to find this item, so it's a decently tough object to track down.
Find Velma's magnifying glass in Fortnite
Velma's magnifying glass can be found on the second floor of the small house located north of Gourdy Gate and southwest of OXR HQ. Although the marker for this item seems to be on the nearby mountain, you won't find what you're looking for there. Instead, you need to stay in the same house where you acquired this quest from Velma to find what you're seeking.
Walk up the stairs to access the second floor. It's a small area, but the magnifying glass is still hidden from view at first. Head over to the corner area where you'll find two boxes with white sheets draped over them. Break them with your Pickaxe or walk around the right side of them, then look down to spot the missing magnifying glass. It's marked with some bright white sparkles to help you spot it. Interact with the magnifying glass to recover it for Velma and officially complete this quest.
![]()
There are still more Mystery Inc. members in need of your help, so consider tackling Daphne's found quest next. After that, you might try exploring some other fun Fortnitemares features like finding and beating the Mother of Thorns Doja Cat, becoming Ghostface, and finding and beating Jason Voorhees.

Spooky chaos has overtaken the island in Fortnite, but luckily, Mystery Inc. is on the scene and ready to help. They need a bit of help from you, too, though, as Daphne's luggage has been stolen, so it's up to you to find it.
Daphne's quest is secret, but it rewards you with a whopping 10,000 XP for your efforts, making it a great task to complete. You're not given much guidance for this mission, which can make tackling it a bit tough, so here's how to help Daphne in Fortnite.
Table of contents
Help Daphne secret quest in Fortnitemares
![]()
To complete the secret help Daphne quest, you need to find Daphne's missing luggage and interrogate the thief who stole it. You can unlock this hidden quest by chatting with Daphne at Viney Shafts and selecting the "Need help?" option.
Once you select it, Daphne will explain that someone stole her luggage and ask you to track it down for her. You only have four minutes to finish this quest once it's activated, so knowing where to go and what needs to be done is essential if you want to tackle it.
Where to find Daphne's luggage in Fortnite
Daphne's luggage was stolen by The Mothman, so it can be found up on a cliff slightly southwest of Viney Shafts, where she's hanging out. It's not too far away from where you acquired this quest from Daphne, but you do have to climb up a large mountain, so it can take a bit to reach the luggage.
You'll find a stack of black bags close to the end of the cliff near some tents and RVs set up in the area. To find Daphne's luggage, all you need to do is walk up to the bags for it to be checked off as complete.

How to interrogate the thief in Fortnite
Now that you've found the luggage, it's time to interrogate the thief. Head over to The Mothman near the edge of the cliff and interact with him to discuss why he stole Daphne's luggage. As soon as you do, the quest will be complete.
There's plenty more to explore in Fortnitemares. Next, you might find and beat Doja Cat, become Ghostface, and find and beat Jason Voorhees.

It is such a great time to be a fan of roguelikes. Whatever flavor of the RNG grind-fest drama you enjoy, there seems to be something to play and have a good time with these days.
The latest spin on roguelikes may be one of my favorites yet. Absolum is an absolute blast, in solo or co-op, as it brings the nostalgia of arcade beat 'em ups to the table to create something that feels wholly fresh yet reminiscent of the best days of gaming at the same time.
Rogue 'em up
![]()
Absolum is made by Supamonks and Guard Crush, and is the first original IP from Dotemu, publisher of beat' em ups like Streets of Rage 4, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, and the upcoming Marvel Cosmic Invasion. The new title is set in the mystical realm of Talamh, and you play as one of four magic-wielding characters, part of a resistance force that has been subjugated by the menacing Sun King Azra.
Led by the high enchantress Uchawa, the rebels fight back as the roguelike formula plays out with a classic side-scrolling beat 'em up style that Dotemu calls "rogue 'em up," creating a satisfying and addictive loop that I keep coming back to.
The combat in Absolum is genuinely super fun, being simple to play yet deceptively deep, and fully playable in solo or two-player co-op. Each character has basic attacks, a secondary attack, a screen-clearing ultimate ability, and multiple magic Arcana spells that are supplemented by random power-ups you pick up after each area.
The four playable characters include Galandra (an elven warrior with a massive sword), Karl (a fist-throwing dwarf with a gun), Cider (a nimble rogue with a spinning blade on their arm), and Brome (a frog-like wizard who wields a magic staff that he can ride around on like a surfboard). I have a tough time picking who to play on each run, as they are all fun.
As the difficulty ramps up towards the end of every run, gathering the right Arcana and abilities is crucial, as it becomes less viable to spam the attack button. The combat mechanics include fighting game-like tropes such as bouncing enemies off the ground to keep massive combos going and juggling them in the air to build up a stagger meter that allows for tremendous damage on bosses and other high-level foes. You can even bounce them off the edges of the screen to continue the combo, and it's immensely satisfying to punish the variety of monsters and Sun King Azra goons in your way.
I wish you could backtrack sometimes, though, because it's easy to miss items, pathways, or throwables on the ground as you're flying through a level on another consecutive run.
Spice up your life
![]()
Absolum offers some of the most variety between each run in the roguelike genre. Each of the four characters has its unique playstyle and abilities, and playing as each of them is a good time, shaking up the inevitable monotony that can accompany the roguelike formula.
With each run towards the tower where Sun King Azra resides, you power up and unlock new abilities, consumables, currency, and quests to further your goals of defeating the tyrant and freeing the use of magic across Talamh. There are also several branching pathways to take through the map, and you can choose to change it up or focus on different objectives on each run.
While you encounter the same enemies and NPCs repeatedly, as in any other roguelike, playing as all four characters is a must, as playing as each of the four heroes offers up new mysteries and dialogue options with each run, opening up different questlines and rewards.
As you may expect, defeating Sun King Azra is just the beginning, and the wide variety of different runs continues from there. The best part about it, though, is that the beat 'em up style never gets old or stale, or at least it didn't in my dozen-plus hours, where I still only got a taste of the full package.
![]()
Variety is furthered by hiring mercenaries alongside you, finding different throwables to extend combos on the fodder you fight through, picking and choosing which quests to focus on. Because of all these reasons, I never got bored with the first few areas of the game, which tends to be an issue for me in the genre.
Undeniably charming
![]()
Absolum is bursting at the seams with charm, boasting a Saturday morning cartoon-like art style and aesthetic, but also some truly excellent music to go along with it. And when you see who's worked on the OST, it makes sense.
The soundtrack for Absolum is handled by Gareth Coker (Ori, Halo Infinite, Prince of Persia), but also includes collaborations from Yuka Kitamura (Dark Souls, Elden Ring), and even Mick Gordon (Doom Eternal, Atomic Heart), and it shows. Every level and region has its own trademark musical tone, and every song is stellar.
The game also manages to have a good sense of humor despite the dire circumstances of the storyline, and it's a true joy to walk around speaking to the NPCs at the team's base of operations or the random characters you find throughout your journey. Unfortunately, this means a lot of lore and world-building can be easily missed.
I'm very happy to report that you can take the fun on the go with flawless Steam Deck performance. I played the vast majority of my hours with the game in bed at a rock-solid 60 FPS and never had an issue with battery life.

Jason Voorhees is one of two bosses you can come across in Fortnite Chapter 6, season 4, as part of the Fortnitemares event.
While his skin is yet to go live inside the game (as of Oct. 9), you can test your abilities against the boss to gain some fantastic rewards on the island. But first, you'll need to find Jason and then challenge him to a fight.
Table of contents
Jason Voorhees' location in Fortnite Chapter 6, season 4
It appears Epic has stayed true to Jason's lore. To find him, you'll have to travel to the north-west part of the map.
The location is Creepy Camps, and you'll have to land near the lake. A set of camps surrounds the lake, and you can find Jason's location marked with a skull (to have the location, you'll have to land on the map).
![]()
Once you or any of your party members get close to Jason, it will trigger the boss fight.
How to defeat Jason Voorhees in Fortnite Chapter 6, season 4
![]()
Jason's two main strengths are his health and the machete. He has a huge health pool that takes a lot of work to bring down. Similarly, you won't want to get anywhere close to his swing arc, as the machete can double-shot you.
To take him down, your best chance is to shoot from a distance and go with a full squad. That way, his attentions will be diverted towards the four of you. There's also another point to keep in mind: everyone wants to take Jason down to get the new Mythic weapon and boon (available for the squad).
As a result, prepare to fight out with other squads, who will try to jump in and eliminate your team. Have at least one of your buddies pay attention to the surroundings to avoid any ambush. That's pretty much all you need to know to take down Jason during the Fortnitemares event.
Eliminating him will immediately drop the new mythic, and also unlock a party-wide boon. If you're looking for more challenge, you can also take down Doja Cat.

For the duration of Fortnitemares, there are some special characters lurking around the island in Fortnite. One of the unique bosses you can go up against is the iconic rapper and singer Doja Cat.
Doja Cat offers a special item you can't find anywhere else, and will also join your team if you manage to best her in battle. She won't be around forever, so if you want to ensure you get to meet up with her before she leaves, here's how to find and beat the Mother of Thorns Doja Cat in Fortnite.
Table of contents
Doja Cat Mother of Thorns boss location in Fortnite
![]()
You can find Doja Cat at three different spots around the island. These locations are:
The Mother of Thorns' spawn location seems to be a bit random and unpredictable, but we've only ever seen her at these three spots. When Doja Cat is present at either of these locations, a skull icon with a crown will appear on the map when you're close to this POI. We're still testing to see if she has other spawn locations, but for now, your best bet is Freaky Fields, Gourdy Gate, and near Supernova Academy.
At both of these spots, you'll find her sitting on a glowing red throne made up of twisted vines. Her throne blends in with the environment quite well, so make sure you're looking around carefully to avoid missing her.
How to beat Mother of Thorns Doja Cat in Fortnite
Doja Cat is more of a mini boss rather than a main one, so she's fairly easy to beat with minimal health and shields. While bigger bosses oftentimes have some special mechanics, there are no special tricks for taking her down.
Instead, simply fire at her with everything you've got until her health bar is depleted. Her aim is generally pretty bad, so as long as you're careful, you should have no issues taking her out. She does have a Thorn Ripper that can pull you in, so be sure to watch out for it.
How to get Mythic Thorn Ripper in Fortnite
![]()
The Mythic Thorn Ripper item can only be obtained by defeating Doja Cat. She only has one in stock, and it drops automatically as soon as you beat her in battle. This item is essentially a reskinned version of the Chain of Hades from Chapter Five, season two.
All Mother of Thorns Doja Cat boss drops in Fortnite
The Doja Cat boss drops a Mythic Thorn Ripper item and a few weapons and healing items that aren't exclusive to her. She also becomes a hired NPC as soon as you defeat her, granting you a helpful ally for the rest of the round. Like all NPCs, she can perish if too much damage is taken, so try to ensure you don't leave her alone in any tough battles if you want to keep her alive.
There's plenty more to uncover around the island with Doja Cat now at your side. Next, you might work on becoming Ghostface, completing all Egg-cellent Observations story quests, using an Ascender and a Zipline in the same match, and completing a Hunter SHADOW Briefing.

Ghostface, Scooby Doo, Repo, and Huggy Wuggy are all about to make their way onto the island in Fortnite as part of the Fortnitemare celebrations.
If you have all jumped in the update, you'll notice there are plenty of Halloween-themed items in the store. An official trailer has already revealed some of the items we will be getting as part of the Fortnitemares event.
If you have been worrying about when to find the items in Fortnite, this guide has got your back.
When will the Fortnitemares cosmetics go live in Fortnite
The official cinematic short revealed on Oct. 8 gave us a glimpse of what to expect. Headed by Doja Cat, Scooby Doo, Ghostface, Repo, and Huggy Wuggy are all part of the cosmetic items that you can obtain. Leaks have also surfaced on social media about how the skins will appear once you put them on.
As of writing on Oct. 9, the Fortnitemares update is live, but the cosmetics are yet to appear. They should be going live in approximately three/four hours from the time this article goes live. This is based on how Epic typically launches seasonal cosmetics when they're not released with the start of an event.
As of writing, only Doja Cat's bundle is live in the game. You can pick the full bundle up at a discounted rate, or go for the individual pieces. Other characters like Scooby Doo and Huggy Wuggy should also be made available as part of their own bundles. We will update this guide once you can buy them in Fortnite.
Incidentally, Ghostface's cosmetic might be unavailable in the store, but you can turn into him. You'll need to find a booth on the map and go inside. You'll come out as Ghostface while unlocking his unique ability, which appears to be quite powerful.

The 2025 installment of Fortnitemares has arrived, adding plenty of spooky content to uncover around the island. One of the many special features you can find is the ability to become Ghostface from Scream.
While most Fortnitemares items and powers are easy to find, the Ghostface Last Call item is decently tricky to find. If you're interested in testing out these abilities for yourself but unsure where to find them, here's how to become Ghostface in Fortnite.

You can obtain Ghostface's Last Call abilities by entering any telephone booth around the island. As soon as you do, your skin will be replaced with Ghostface's iconic black robe and white mask. You'll also get the Last Call item, which grants you some special abilities, including a knife you can attack enemies with and a phone call ability that exposes nearby enemies.

Ghostface Stalkbox telephone booths can be found randomly at various locations around the map. So far, we've found Stalkboxes at the following locations:
As we uncover any additional locations that have one of these special telephone booths, we'll add them here. They aren't marked on the map, even when you're right next to them, so be sure to keep an eye out as you travel around since they're very easy to overlook.

October is here, which means it's time for Phasmophobia to amp up the scare factor with the arrival of the annual Halloween event. This year, the Crimson Eye event has returned with a blend of last year's mechanics and some fresh additions.
Like all events, this one is designed to challenge you, so it can be rather tricky to work through. To ensure you're able to complete everything it offers, here are all the challenges and rewards featured in Phasmophobia's Crimson Eye Halloween event.
Table of contents
Phasmophobia Crimson Eye Halloween event guide
![]()
The Crimson Eye event is a community experience, so the entire Phasmophobia playerbase must work together to progress through it. There's a personal goal section too, which tracks your own contributions to the event, but for the most part, the focus is on the community tackling three main goals.
Phasmophobia Crimson Eye objectives
There are three key objectives you must complete to contribute progress in the Crimson Eye event:
Identify ghosts correctly
The first goal is one you're likely very familiar with, which is simply to correctly identify ghosts. This is the main objective of every Phasmophobia contract, so you should already have a decent understanding of how to tackle it.
If identifying the ghost is something you struggle with, it's best to focus on capturing all three key pieces of evidence to ensure you're right. While there are many unofficial behaviors and clues you can watch out for, evidence is the only guaranteed way to ensure you catch the right ghost. Every ghost has three types of evidence you can identify.
Complete optional objectives
![]()
The second key event goal is to complete optional objectives. In each contract, you're given three random side tasks to tackle. These quests are never mandatory, but finishing them does get you some bonus cash and XP. In the case of the Crimson Eye event, tackling these missions also contributes to event progress.
You can find your optional objectives on the board hanging up between the truck cameras and the sanity monitor. They're pinned near the bottom of the board, right below a picture of the map you chose.
Some optional objectives are quite easy, like cleansing the area near the ghost with Incense, while others can be a lot more difficult to get done, like having a member of your team witness a ghost event. Try your best to finish these quests as often as possible to help contribute event points.
Interact with Totems
The last objective you need to work on is interacting with all the Totems you come across. This is the trickiest task to get done since it's the only one that's special to the event. Totems are floating red Blood Moons that hover over black pedestals. They can only be found around the daily event maps.
When you come across one, walk up to it and select the "Interact" button. This button varies by platform, so if you're not sure what the right control is for you, open up your Journal, click Options, select the Controls page, and locate the button next to the word "Interact."
As soon as you interact with a Totem, it will disappear, granting you some event points. There are generally around three to six Totems present on each map, so be sure to scour every inch of the location to make sure you don't miss one.
![]()
Phasmophobia Crimson Eye maps
There are seven maps featured in the Crimson Eye event, but only four will be active each day. The maps that are featured for the day are marked with a red moon icon on the map board to help you choose the right spots. All of the maps included in the event pool are as follows.
Phasmophobia Crimson Eye rewards
There are two main rewards featured in the Crimson Eye event, plus two upgrades you can unlock for them. These prizes include a special ID Card and an event trophy.
![]()
How long is the Crimson Eye event in Phasmophobia?
The Crimson Eye event runs from Oct. 9 to Oct. 31. This gives you just over three weeks to complete all objectives and claim your special event prizes. It's not too tough of an event to tackle once you understand how it works, so get out there and start ghost hunting as soon as possible to ensure you don't miss out.

The Crimson Eye event has arrived in Phasmophobia, ushering in a special season packed with spooky surprises. To participate in this event, you need to know how to find the eerie Totems hidden around certain maps.
Surviving ghost hunts is hard enough on its own, but now you also have to worry about tracking down hidden items around the map. If you're struggling to complete this event task, here's how to find Totems in Phasmophobia's Crimson Eye event.
Table of contents
What are Totems in Phasmophobia?
![]()
Totems are floating, miniature versions of the Blood Moon perched on top of small black pedestals. You're looking for vibrant, glowing red moons dripping liquid that can be found hovering above a black base. They're fairly easy to spot around the Crimson Eye maps, as these locations are quite dark, making the glowing moon stand out by contrast.
Where to find Totems in Phasmophobia
For the duration of the Crimson Eye event, Totems can be found around seven different maps, although only four out of the seven are active each day. The maps that have Blood Moon Totems on them are marked with a special icon on the map board, making them easy to distinguish from the rest. All of the maps that can be featured in the daily rotation and have Totems around them are as follows.
Totems can appear just about anywhere on all maps. This includes the ground, tables, beds, chairs, desks, counters, sofas, cars, and any other furniture you come across at these locations.
How to interact with Totems in Phasmophobia
![]()
You can interact with Totems by walking up to them and selecting the "Interact" button while hovering over one. This is the same button you use to trigger most interactions, so it should be one you're fairly familiar with.
If you're not sure which button to press, you can check in your Journal. To do so, open the Journal, select Options, navigate to the Controls page, and find the button next to the word "Interact." You can also change it if you don't like the button it's bound to.
As soon as you interact with a Totem, it will disappear, granting you some event points. You don't need to perform any additional tasks to earn points, so interacting with Totems is quite easy once you know what needs to be done. At the end of each contract, you can see how many points you earned in the game summary.
Every Totem you interact with contributes some points to the event. There's no limit on how many you can find, so track down as many as you can to help the entire community earn all Crimson Eye event rewards.
![]()
There are plenty of other tasks you can tackle in Phasmophobia once you're done hunting for Totems. Next, you might work on capturing unique evidence, finding Slenderman, recording audio and video evidence, and unlocking all hidden achievements.
