Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 5, 2025 8:21 AM Update: In a statement to RPS, Skyblivion comms lead Evan T. Flatt remphasised that when it comes to spellcrafting, while the team would love to deliver it down the line: "We can't guarantee it will be possible - largely due to the technical hurdles of doing so and the very limited number of people skilled in being able to do it." "As far as concerns that our UI Lead, Fallen, wasn't included in contributing to the delay announcement, that would be inaccurate," Flatt continued. "He did not have a direct role in the video production, including filming and editing, but he did help review the script for accuracy (as did all department leads). After chatting with him, the confusion on his end was due to the time interval between us finishing the script and the video being finished, in which he forgot he had worked on the script." Original story follows: Skyblivion, the massive modding project reinterpreting The Elder Scrolls 4 via Skyrim's engine, had its release officially delayed to 2026 earlier this week. The delay followed an ex-Skyblivion level and world designer Dee Keyes alleging that the mod's previous 2025 release goal was "unachievable" earlier this year, in a post which also accused Skyblivion project lead Kyle 'Rebelzize' Rebel and implementation lead Heavy Burns of mismanaging communication within the mod's team. In response, Heavy Burns asserted that "many" of the claims in the ex-dev's post were "either misrepresented or just untrue". Now, in a Discord discussion emphasising that players shouldn't assume the spellcrafting mechanic the modders have had to cut from the initial release will be put back in down the line, Skyblivion's UI department lead has suggested they weren't consulted about what was said in the YouTube video announcing the mod's delay to next year. That'd be the delay announcement video which features a section specifically dedicated to the current status of Skyblivion's UI and mechanics. |

When the 3.8 Honkai: Star Rail patch debuts on December 17, 2025, it also means the story will head back to Penacony for a bit now that the Amphoreus storyline is done. This will involve a new Trailblaze Mission with Constance, known as The Dahlia, involved. It will also be the stop before the next planet in the Astral Express' journey. HoYoVerse also confirmed the 3.8 patch will be in effect between December 17, 2025 and February 13, 2026.
The 3.8 Honkai: Star Rail trailer revealed that the Astral Express will be back at Penacony because of The Dahlia. She has the ability to affect people's memories, and she claims there are details that we missed from the Penacony adventure. As a result, before we head out on an entirely new leg of our journey, we'll see Firefly's perspective from the events of the Charmony Festival.
Because of the extended run of this patch, the schedule for 3.8 Honkai: Star Rail banners and events will be different. The first phase will run between December 17, 2025 and January 7, 2026, and that features The Dahlia and Firefly as the five-star featured units. Gallagher, Luka, and March 7th will be the focus four-stars. The second phase will be in effect between January 7-28, 2026, with Fugue and Lingsha as the five-stars and Arlan, Natasha, and Sampo as the four-stars. Finally, a third phase of character banners will appear between January 28, 2026 and February 12, 2026. That will feature Aglaea and Sunday as the five-stars and Dan Heng, Tingyun, and Yukong as the four-stars.
Here is the full trailer for 3.8, which will be known as "Memories are the Prelude to Dreams."
The full Special Program for that update is also below:
Honkai: Star Rail is available on the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the 3.8 update arrives on December 17, 2025.

During the FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live XC (90), Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida and Global Community Producer Toshio "Foxclon" Murouchi revealed Rage Against the Machine founder Tom Morello wrote music for the new Raid The Arcadion: Heavyweight Tier. The Normal version of that fight arrives when the 7.4 patch launches on December 16, 2025, and the Savage one debuts on January 6, 2026.
When the announcement about Rage against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello contributing a song to FFXIV came up during the presentation, Yoshida and Murouchi shared a pre-recorded video from the musician. Morello noted Jason Charles Miller, who worked on many tracks from the MMORPG like "To the Edge," told him composer Masayoshi Soken was a fan. This led to the the song "Everything Burns." That was recorded and created with Beartooth for the game.
You can see the full FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live XC below. When they talk about The Arcadion: Heavyweight Tier later in the presentation, they actually show some of the Xak Tural AAC Heavyweight M2. There is also the segment with Tom Morello talking about the track and sharing a sample of it.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and FFXIV patch 7.4 Into the Mist will debut on December 16, 2025.

There will be more of the Final Fantasy XIV tabletop role-playing game, as Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed during the Letter from the Producer Live XC (90) the FFXIV TTRPG Advanced Rulebook: Stormblood expansion release. That is expected to release in Japan on March 21, 2026, followed by a North American launch in August 2026 and European one in September 2026. The book can be purchased alone for $69.99 or in a Deluxe Edition bundle for $189.99, and pre-orders are open now.
This new rulebook is based on the second expansion for the game, and it does require the original rulebook in order to use the new campaigns and content. There are three scenarios in it based on the events from that original MMORPG expansion, ranging from level 60-70, two new Challenge Duties for parties from level 65-70, and five FATES again for folks from level 60-70. A Gold Saucer Chocobo Racing Personal Quest is detailed in it. Advanced Rulebook: Stormblood also adds the Red Mage and Samurai jobs, information to get the previous FFXIV TTRPG jobs to level 70, about 50 monsters, and new items.
Here's a closer look at how it all looks. If someone gets the Deluxe Edition, they also get the Backdrop Art Collection manual, 1 Dice Pillow, 1 Jumbo Crimson Namazu Die, 1 Logo Stand, 1 Shop Board, 2 Character Token Stands, 6 Encounter Maps, 6 Namazu Dice, 15 Trait Cards, 40 Job Cards, and 180 Character Tokens from 11 punchouts.
You can see the full FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live XC below:
The FFXIV TTRPG Advanced Rulebook: Stormblood expansion will launch in Japan on March 21, 2026, in North America in August 2026 and in Europe in September 2026. The original FFXIV TTRPG is available worldwide, but often sells out.

During the Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer Live XC (90), Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida announced there will be a Fantasian Neo Dimension cosmetic crossover in FFXIV. This will appear on December 16, 2025.
The FFXIV Fantasian Neo Dimension items will consist of three outfit sets. These will be sold in the Final Fantasy XIV Online Store, which means you will need to spend real money in order to get them. Prices weren't shared yet. The three clothing sets will be based on the costumes the leads Leo, Cheryl, and Kina will all wear in the game. No weapons are included.
Here's the slide from the presentation showing the announcement:
While Hironobu Sakaguchi and Mistwalker first released Fantasian on Apple Arcade in two parts, it's because of Naoki Yoshida and Square Enix that it also appeared on other platforms. The final version of the updated release also included in-game music options from titles like FFXIV Dawntrail and Endwalker.
Here's the full FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live XC:
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Fantasian Neo Dimension items will be available to buy and wear in-game on December 16, 2025. Fantasian first appeared on Apple Arcade, but later appeared in its updated form on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Sumikkogurashi Create a Wonderful Sumikko Island is a pleasant surprise! Getting games based on the San-X characters worldwide isn't guaranteed. And when Nippon Columbia and Imagineer brought it up, it was with very little fanfare. Which is a shame, as this is an adorable, relaxing, and soothing little sandbox that is incredibly cute and not at all demanding.
The premise of Sumikkogurashi Create a Wonderful Sumikko Island isn't all that different from Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The mascots Neko, Penguin?, Shirokuma, Tokage, and Tonkatsu, along with other smaller characters like Ebifurai no Shippo, get an opportunity to move to a deserted island and relax there. This means placing some buildings and arranging decorations that meet everyone's requests, including additional visitors, so everyone can live happily together.
Sumikkogurashi Create a Wonderful Sumikko Island is a game with no pressure and challenge. We're basically a benevolent force in the sky who listens to the requests of different characters and fulfills them. A pink Tapioca wants a pumpkin? Plant a pumpkin patch and harvest one. Penguin? wants a swing? Gather the materials, build it, and place it. All of the major Sumikko want a restaurant? Build it, plant some vegetable patches to get produce to offer there, and set it up. Zassou wants to see Neko in a new outfit? Go to the in-game store and use coins you earned to buy that cat some island wear! It's the spring season? make sure you place themed decorations and plants that fit the season to make people happy. Do all these things and you'll spark joy and unlock new requests, which in turn causes more characters to visit and the island space to grow larger. Telling people what you've done also gets you things like coins and rewards and, since characters will wait a few days for things to happen, there's always time to help them out.
While it might be easiest to immediately suggest Sumikkogurashi Create a Wonderful Sumikko Island is an Animal Crossing type of game, it's really more like decorative ones such as Twinkleby and Gourdlets. We don't decorate inside the characters' homes after placing them. We don't talk to the characters, really. We sort of watch over them, arrange buildings and decorations to meet requests, and watch characters be cute. Maybe we dress them up and photograph them, with over 90 "challenges" coming from taking pictures of them in certain situations. It's hands-off, but thoroughly pleasant. And since an array of items do unlock and we're encouraged to maintain different themes for different seven-day seasons, it almost feels like a stress-relieving means of playing around with an environment and ensuring it is cute.
The only thing that frustrates me about Sumikkogurashi Create a Wonderful Sumikko Island is the gathering of materials. The only ones who can get items from designated points are Neko, Penguin?, Shirokuma, Tokage, and Tonkatsu. You can't just tell them to do so. You can pick them up and drop them near the spots that can be harvested, chopped, gathered, or hit, but there's no guarantee they'll actually perform that action. And there's no way for a player to personally tap those items to get the materials. Selecting them only shows you which potential items you could get from that source. So you basically have to drop a character, hope they decide to gather, watch until they show a prompt where you can play a very short and easy minigame to assist in gathering materials to ensure you get more than one, and keep repeating that to get what you need. Especially since it isn't guaranteed the in-game store will sell what you need that day.
However, that lack of interactions and control, combined with the need to rearrange to suit seasons, might get a little frustrating. Days pass quite quickly in Sumikkogurashi Create a Wonderful Sumikko Island, so you probably won't get too much gathering done. While you can get away with just shifting around flowers and trees each season to meet objectives or placing a few decorations, it does feel like there's a sense of impermanence that keeps you from leaving things you set up on the fifth day of your first spring in place by the fourth day of your first summer.
Still, there's something soothing about being an observer decorating in Sumikkogurashi Create a Wonderful Sumikko Island. The San-X mascots are adorable, and it's easy to check in the in-game index to learn about them or jump to focus on them. There are a substantial number of decorations, and we're encouraged to use a variety due to requests. There are some frustrations here, especially when it comes to gathering or needing to suit the seasons. Still, it's quite a pleasant, relaxing, and cozy little decorating game that I think fans of the characters or cute mascots in general will appreciate.
Sumikkogurashi Create a Wonderful Sumikko Island is available on the Switch.

The first post-launch expansion will be going live with the free update on Dec. 9 across all platforms. The following countdown will expire once the the update goes live.
The countdown is based on the following timings.
While an exact release time isn't available as of writing, I have based the countdown on when Jurassic World Evolution 3 originally released on PCs and consoles. I will update the countdown and the timings once we have confirmation on when the new update goes live.
What to expect from Jurassic World Evolution 3 Wetlands Pack DLC

Visiting the Red Planet, a.k.a. Mars, is quite crucial in Black Ops 7 Zombies' Astra Malorum map if you're looking to complete the main easter egg.
Things would have been easier if we could have got ourselves a spaceship to travel to the location. Unfortunately, such a facility isn't available inside the game. Instead, we will have to open a teleportation portal to reach Mars. This guide will briefly state all the vital steps you need to complete to reach Mars.
How to access Mars in Black Ops 7 Zombies Astra Malorum
The first prerequisite is to unlock the LGM-1 Wonder Weapon. We already have a detailed guide that will help you get this Wonder Weapon. You'll first have to find a few items, followed by eliminating O.S.C.A.R. with traps at three different locations.
Once you have obtained the LGM-1, wait for O.S.C.A.R. to spawn once again. Once he spawns, he will direct you to a location. Just stay away from the spotlight in front of him, and you won't have to take a hit. You can try damaging him from the back, but it's not necessary. Continue this trail until you hear a recording of Thurston speaking the names of three planets. Note the names of the planets and their order.
For example, the order of planets on my playthrough was Mercury, Venus, and Neptune. To get the code, apply the numeric position of the planets as per their distance from the Sun. In the example above, the code will be 128. Noting the order is crucial if you want to crack the code successfully.
Once you receive the code, reach the Observatory Dome room. You'll find a small terminal near the Pack-A-Punch. Enter the code, and it will activate a lift. The lift will come down (in front of the Pack-A-Punch), and you'll find a corpse. Take the key from the corpse, and proceed to Museum Infinitum.
You'll find a saw in a glass display. Break the glass to obtain the saw, and head to the south room of Machina Astralis. Here, you'll find a body in the Cryopod. Stand close to the head, and interact with it to grab the brain (must have the saw for this part).
Head to the Luminarium, and you'll find a brain kept on a table. Replace it with Thurnston's brain, and defend the location for 60 seconds. Once done, pick the brain up and head to Machina Astralis. You'll notice a strange set of machines on the ground floor (right in the middle of the building).
Place the brain in the machine next to the teleported pad, and it will turn on automatically. The machine will display the Thurston's Reading List, and a set of books will appear. Note down all the books (the names will be random, so be careful about this step).
Go back to the Observatory room and interact with the telescope as you did to obtain the LGM-1. Instead of looking for the Sun, look for Mars. Check the bottom left to find your coordinates. Enter the coordinates on a terminal located in the eastern part of Machina. If you enter the correct values, Thurnston will mention that the coordinates are for Mars.
The next task is to go to the Archive and look for three statues. Each statue has a set of bookshelves. Your task is to check the books in the shelves and interact with the bust. For example, I had The Musica Universalis among my list of books. None of the other shelves in this lot had books that appeared for me. Hence, I interacted with the bust only once. In simple words, interact with a specific bust as many times as you find the correct book in the shelves (Interact twice if there were two books, and so on).
You can interact with the busts only when a new round begins. Hence, you'll have to be quick (or wait for a new round). You can complete interacting with the three busts across multiple rounds. Once this part is done, take the ladder in the corner of the Archive and climb up. Take the Neptune model and place it at the giant planetarium at the top of the Machina.
You'll also find three notes in the map (I believe their locations are fixed, but the planet and directions differ).
Note down the directions and planets mentioned on the papers. Head back to the top of the planetarium, and shoot only these three planets till they're aligned in their correct positions. You can figure out the positions from the underside of the giant Sun.
Go to the strange machine on the ground floor of Machina and press F. If the three planets are aligned correctly, it will activate the portal. However, the portal will take time to charge up fully, and an O.S.C.A.R. and other zombies will attack you. Your objective is to take down the flying discs of O.S.C.A.R., since those can reset the progress of the portal.
Wait for the portal to finish its activation, and you'll be teleported to Mars, where you begin the last phase of completing the main easter egg of Astral Malorum. Reaching Mars is also necessary if you're looking to complete the main musical easter egg and unlock a track from Avenged Sevenfold.
