saeko giantess dating sim review

Having a girlfriend is great and all, but you know what would make the experience better? If your girlfriend is a giant and can kill you like a bug at any time. Despite the almost joke-like title of the game, SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim is a visual novel with an unconventional, dark, and Stockholm syndrome-adjacent romance that can leave the player wanting more.

SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim puts you in the miniature shoes of Rin. He was walking home one rainy night when he mysteriously shrinks to the size of an ant. A university student named Saeko finds him and places him in her drawer for protection. In there, Rin encounters a collection of other little people. It doesn't take long to learn that Saeko is not just the culprit behind the shrinking, but she's also a cannibal who eats a little person every day. After Saeko kills the previous supervisor of the drawer for failing in his duties, she promotes Rin to the position. Rin's job is simple: feed a little person every day to make them more delicious for Saeko and make sure no one's health falls below zero, lest Saeko murders them all.

The gameplay loop of SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim revolves around three segments: Day, Night, and Midnight. During the Day segment, you can hang out with the other little people and learn about them before sentencing one to be devoured. At Night, you can have a one-on-one conversation with Saeko. These talks shed some light on Saeko's personality and past. Saying too much or too little, or giving the wrong answers will prompt Saeko to kill Rin. Finally, at Midnight, you can use Saeko's cellphone to read news about the outside world or play a mini-game.

The main emotional core of the game centers on Rin and Saeko, as well as their relationship. As someone who's not into macrophilia, I can't speak on how much Saeko appeals to that community. While the seeds are there for some nice ol' "cannibalism as a metaphor for love" deliciousness, the game sadly never quite takes that route. Though Saeko makes for an interesting character, she's not that compelling of a romantic interest. We don't get a lot of Rin's thoughts, and whatever attracted Rin to Saeko (and vice versa) in the first place is lost in Rin's forgotten memories. It makes the Stockholm/Lima syndrome romance a little hard to get behind, even as someone who supports women's rights and wrongs.

I want to clarify that I eat up a lot of the tropes and ideas that SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim presents. That's precisely why I wanted to see the writer do more with it. It's easier to avoid thinking of it as an actual "dating simulator" as the title suggests; rather, it's a story of morality, masking, and attachment.

Aesthetically, the game looks fantastic. It has a clean interface, and the segments of chatting with Saeko are reminiscent of those Lofi girl streams. The contrast between the calm music and Rin's palpable fear works great. The pixel art and animations are delightful as well. Though it's frustrating to replay conversations with Saeko, I still enjoyed watching her facial expressions and hair animations. For all her cruelty and callousness—or, perhaps, because of her sociopathy—Saeko is a charming antagonist in the same vein as Tomie, and her face card never declines.

Crude, salacious, yet surprisingly beautiful, SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim is a fun short story for those who enjoy a fantastical take on dark romance. It only took me about three and a half hours to see all three endings in the game. But, like how a part of Rin remained in that drawer even after he escapes from it, it's easy for your mind to linger on the implications and promises the story brings.

SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim is available on Windows PC via Steam.

Mimic Endoskeleton jumpscare in FNAF Secret of the Mimic

Can you fix what is broken in FNAF: Secret of the Mimic by getting a bittersweet ending for the Murray family's story? FNAF has to start from somewhere, but how will Edwin's tale end? It's up to you.

There are three endings in Secret of the Mimic, each having lore revelations that stir up everything we know about FNAF's intricate lore. Collectibles are crucial here, with multiple endings locked behind MCM's security system, under the .exe folders at the Facility terminals. You can snag yourself two endings in your first playthrough, but it's a longer road to reach the third and final ending. So, here is how to get every Secret of the Mimic ending and what they mean.

Secret of the Mimic ending guide: How to unlock and what each means

FNAF: Secret of the Mimic bad ending

This ending is easy to achieve as you don't need to do anything but play through the game as you normally would. This will likely be the first ending you unlock. After completing Dispatch's objectives, you hand over the Data Diver and exit through the garage. Driving home, expecting your $25 gift certificate and a good night's sleep; Arnold is attacked by a hitchhiking Mimic.

Turns out, Dispatch was the Mimic after all, a twist just like Security Breach Ruin DLC. You may have figured this out already because of Dispatch's callous behavior and apathetic responses. He was also very pushy for you to upgrade the Data Diver to Executive permissions. This is exactly what the Mimic wanted. Arnold was playing into Mimic2's hands all along. Mimic takes Arnold back to the Costume Manor and installs him into Freddy's prototype suit, to stand on stage performing alongside the first twisted iterations of Chica and Bonnie.

It's unclear, however, if this ending is canon or if the more complicated conclusion is instead. Let's move on to it.

ingFNAF: Secret of the Mimic canon end

You can get this ending by continuing your previous playthrough from the last checkpoint (when you need to return to the Security Office for the last time). Instead of going home, select the Parachute.exe on the terminal now that you have Executive access. A secret hatch will open in the room, leading you to Edwin Murray's replica of Fazbear's Diner and his family home. Prototype versions of Freddy, Bonnie, Foxy, and Chica are here. Using their suits to drain the power, you need to stand on the red spotlights (the same positions where each animatronic would stand in the first Five Nights).

Arnold meets F10 N4, the security system of Mimic1, otherwise known as Fiona (Edwin's late wife). Following this, you must find all five Birthday Tapes in Edwin's house, all while avoiding the Mimic at all times. One is behind the stairs, two are downstairs and two more upstairs; play each tape at the projector room (safe area) to get the code for the room upstairs. The code will always be: Green, Magenta, Blue, Red, and Yellow.

Arnold starts Cradle.exe, which sets the Facility ablaze. He seemingly makes it out of the Costume Manor alive, but is pursued by animatronic minions and Mimic2. Arnold crashes, yet Mimic survives and is now free, stealing the upgraded Data Diver off Arnold's dying body.

We believe this is canon as the fire is a recurring theme in Five Nights at Freddy's. What happens to the Costume Manor lines up with what we knew about the Mimic and FazBear Entertainment's history. Perhaps the Fall Fest fire was Arnold's doing, but it occurred at Edwin Murray's Facility instead.

The final ending and the hardest one to get is via Moon.exe, which can be found on any security terminal. This text-based adventure game is based on David's life, with sentimental items linking his childhood and relationship with his father. You cannot complete Moon.exe without all 25 collectibles, however. The most important collectible is the White Tiger Toy, which is given to you after completing the game. This means the final ending is locked behind New Game+.

Fiona (Sun) has scattered the 25 collectibles or presents for you to find and place inside the Inventory Tube System. Doing so adds them to the Moon.exe game. You're given the Glitched Permission upon completing Moon, upgrading your Data Diver beyond Executive. Select Parachute.exe at the end of the game, as you need Executive access to do so, and play until you reach Edwin's house.

With the Glitched Permission on your Data Diver, access the room at the top of the stairs that has flashing lights as its Data Diver symbol. You should find six cassette players on the wall, where you need to find all six Bedtime Story tapes in the adjacent glitched rooms of Edwin's house.

Screenshot by Destructoid

The point of this ending is to finish what Edwin started, to insert the Glitched Permission into M2 (David). Once all six tapes have been found and placed in the wall, a vent will open in the room, leading to David's bedroom. Before you go, however, go to the Inventory Tube System and take out the White Tiger Toy.

Complete Edwin and Fiona's bedtime story by hitting the animal symbols in the following order before MK2 attacks: Fox, Chicken, Alligator, and Rabbit. Hearing his "parents'" story, MK2 glitches, allowing Arnold to insert the Glitched Permission and restore the Mimic. The endoskeleton refers back to the last thing it copied: David. No longer broken by Edwin's wrath, MK2 settles into bed, and we watch the light go out of its eyes.

A fully-developed gravship in Rimworld Odyssey DLC

The Odyssey DLC is set to be the next major Rimworld expansion and will provide fans with exciting new content spread across the vast, open Space.

Ludeon Studios has already announced important details surrounding the upcoming launch, which includes all the major features. Compared to previous content drops, Odyssey allows you to travel between planets and build your Gravship. Let's check out what to expect from the upcoming DLC and why it could be special for Rimworld beginners and veterans.

All major Rimworld Odyssey DLC features

The Odyssey DLC will allow you to travel across planets on your gravship. You can land on the planets, scavenge for loot, unearth treasures, and more. The beginning will be small, with just a few rooms and thrusters, while fuel will be rare. Your ultimate objective is to make the ship your new home and build new areas like labs, workshops, hospitals, and more for your settlers.

  • New Biomes: New biomes will be coming to Rimworld as part of the expansion. Every biome will have unique flora and fauna, and dangers will be hiding among them. New biomes include Glowforest, Scarlands, Grasslands, Glacia Plains, and Lava Fields.
  • Landmarks System: Thanks to the landmarks system, no two biomes will be the same. Every biome will have different geographical features and rich and rare resources.
  • Explore Space: With the launch of the Odyssey DLC, you'll no longer be limited to exploring one planet. You can go to space and land on wrecked orbital platforms, jump across satellites, and mine asteroids. However, you won't be alone, as other scavengers will try to outwit and kill your settlers. Double that, with no oxygen and sub-zero temperatures, Space won't be the easiest place to survive.

The new DLC will also offer new weapons, wildlife, and more (explained in the following section).

Rimworld Odyssey DLC weapons and animals

The new DLC will have more weapons and animals (thankfully, I can remove the 100+ mods I have for these two). Over 40 new animals will be part of the journey, all available to be tamed, trained, traded, or eaten. The stock of animals will be limited initially, but they will expand as you grow your gravship and explore more planets.

You can also teach new skills to the animals and use them to complete various goals. They can either protect your settlers or unearth treasures and resources on their own. You can also bring prehistoric creatures like the Mastodon on your journey (so cool!). Rimworld also brings fishing to the party, as you'll find different fish in the various biomes. You can always catch and turn them into nutritious foods to survive the harsh space.

The Odyssey DLC will introduce the hive mind—an endless line of mechanoids trying to wipe out every human alive. But you're not alone in this fight, as the expansion also offers new weapons like the sawed-off shotgun that can clear a wave in seconds. Your settlers can also equip new gear like Hunter drones to hunt and paralyze enemies.

Rimworld Odyssey DLC release date

Based on the developer notes, an exact release date for the Odyssey DLC is yet to be announced, but I expect it to go live in July. For the first time, we can travel in space and jump between planets. The expansion excites me, and I am already looking forward to the new mods coming as part of the upcoming expansion.
