| PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 3:03 PM | | The spooky season is definitely here, with Red Dead Online being the latest major multiplayer game to get its share of Halloween updates and goodies. Rockstar Games has revealed that the Western game's Halloween 2021 event and Halloween Pass 2021 are dropping later this week, ushering in "bleak tidings, and an eerie tinge to the atmosphere of the Wild West". First up, there are some seasonal All Hallows' Call to Arms modes on the way - new, suitably spooky takes on Red Dead's existing survival standoffs, which see players battle waves of enemies. These will take the fight to some of the game's already more unsettling and abandoned spots like Armadillo, Butcher Creek, Shady Belle, and Bolger Glade, with enemies to fend off including "alligators and cougars hungry for flesh, and a supernatural ghost train haunting the town of Armadillo". These Call to Arms modes will fetch you double RDO$, gold, and XP while they're live, and if you can hold out against ten waves of whichever enemy you're facing, you'll earn 2,000 Club XP to redeem on the Halloween Pass 2. | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 2:48 PM | | At last, Doom Eternal update 6.66 is out today, and with it, the game's long-awaited horde mode. id Software has revealed the release notes for the update, including a full breakdown of how horde mode will work, and a look at the rewards you can earn from playing it. Notably, it looks like there's a lot more to the mode than pure combat. Each horde mode run is split across three missions, which are further divided into five rounds, with two optional bonus rounds in between. The first, third, and fifth rounds will be arena battles where you fight waves of demons. In between those, you'll get a blitz round where you have a limited amount of time to kill as many demons as you can, and a traversal round where you "navigate a traversal puzzle and collect as many coins as you can before time runs out". (Hope you like a bit of Mario in your Doom, folks.) You start a horde run with three lives and a fully mastered combat shotgun, plus a full loadout of upgrades. You'll get a random fully mastered gun for every arena round you complete, but if you run out of lives, your run is over. | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 2:38 PM | | Crusader Kings III players are going to have to wait until next year to dig into the grand strategy game's first expansion. The Royal Court DLC, which adds heaps of new features like a new dueling system and a 3D throne room, needs some more time in the oven while Paradox irons out some stability issues and other stubborn bugs. Paradox community manager Pariah explains in a forum post that the team is "not entirely satisfied" with the Royal Court DLC's progress and that it's decided to take more time in order to address several issues that have proven thornier than expected. "There are a number of bugs we really need to iron out, and are taking more time to make sure it is in line with the standards you expect," Pariah writes. "We also understand the frustration that delays cause, but we would like to make sure we are always as forthcoming as possible and that you hear the news directly from us." | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 2:29 PM | | BlizzCon 2022 has been cancelled. Blizzard previously announced that another online-only convention would be taking place in early 2022, but the event has now been put on indefinite hold as the company feels "the energy it would take to put on a show like this is best directed towards supporting our teams and progressing development of our games and experiences." Blizzard does not make reference to the ongoing lawsuit and sexual harassment discrimination scandal in this announcement, titled 'Reimagining Blizzcon', but does acknowledge that "whatever the event looks like in the future, we also need to ensure that it feels as safe, welcoming, and inclusive as possible." It's unclear when - or at this point if - BlizzCon will return, but Blizzard assures players that announcements on upcoming games are still on the way as scheduled. "You'll continue hearing about those through our franchise channels, with the talented people on the BlizzCon team playing a part in supporting these efforts." | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 1:47 PM | | While we wait for the series to try the battle royale game format in Ghost Recon Frontline, it seems Ubisoft isn't done with Ghost Recon Breakpoint just yet. A massive new update is on the way that adds a whole new single-player campaign that spans the entire island of Auroa. Dubbed Operation Motherland, the new conquest mode is about liberating the island territory by territory. CIA agent Karen Bowman, who you may remember as the Ghosts' handler in Ghost Recon Wildlands, returns to direct an effort to secure Auroa against enemy control by putting Haruhi Ito and her Outcasts in control. To do this, Ghosts will have to complete missions in each of Auroa's territories, eventually finding and eliminating the lieutenant in charge of that zone. Each time you complete a mission, the dynamics of that region will change - missions might have you eliminating the source of drone surveillance in the area, or decreasing enemy patrols. Those actions will have real impacts on how the situation on the ground looks as you continue through the area, eventually collecting enough clues to identify and assassinate the local boss. | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 1:21 PM | | Deep Rock Galactic hit 1.0 over a year ago, but it seems the developers are far from done - in fact, we're just getting to the game's first season. The devs at Ghost Ship Games have announced Season 01: Rival Incursion, which will introduce new weapons, a new boss, and a completely free battle pass system. The Performance Pass gives you 100 levels of unlocks to run through. You'll reach new levels by earning performance points, which are awarded for completing normal missions or season challenges, or from finding data cells while playing. Each level will either earn you a reward directly, or will get you scrips, which you can spend to get items from a big cosmetic unlock tree. It's a pretty robust offering for a free battle pass, and the devs aren't even counting on FOMO to keep you playing. All the Season 01 items will still be obtainable after the event comes to a close, though there are no details yet on how you'll get them. RELATED LINKS: Deep Rock Galactic gameplay impressions

| PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 12:36 PM | | Looking for the best M1 Garand loadout in Call of Duty Vanguard? The M1 Garand may lack the rate of fire of an assault rifle, but it more than makes up for this in raw damage. This weapon is going to be a smash hit in Vanguard's multiplayer modes because it can consistently kill enemies with just two shots. If you manage to land a headshot at close range, the M1 Garand can down a player with a single bullet. The main issue with the M1 Garand is its poor aim down sight speed - fortunately the gunsmith now lets you equip up to ten attachments on any weapon. This level of customisation can completely transform every Call of Duty Vanguard gun, allowing you to fix any issues your weapon has. Don't feel discouraged by the stock version of the M1 Garand as it needs attachments to realise its full potential. Our best M1 Garand loadout also improves the rifle's rate of fire to drastically boost the time to kill speed.

| PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 12:22 PM | | Not only will Crusader Kings 3's next expansion - Royal Court - bring us 3D throne rooms and courtly intrigue, it will also offer premium options to build on top of the free culture rework coming with the free patch. It's been reported before that players can both merge cultures, and diverge to create new ones, but the developers have now stated that - based on player feedback - they're going to be offering even more options for players. One of the main threads of feedback to come out of the earlier reveals was that many asked what they could do if they liked the culture they had, but just wanted to make a few tweaks to make it even better. While you could always add new traditions if you had slots to spare, you couldn't change existing traditions without creating a brand new culture. Now, the cultural head can tweak their existing culture by 'reforming' it to change the ethos, the martial custom, and any tradition. You can't change cultural pillars or language, and you will need the Royal Court expansion to do everything except fill out empty tradition slots, which can be done without the expansion. The cost to do these changes will not be trivial, with the dev diary offering example prestige costs for changing a culture's Ethos in the 20,000+ range. | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 12:17 PM | | PUBG turned into one of gaming's biggest success stories and launched what's now one of the most prolific genres in the industry. It's also gotten very weird since then. The PC game is now called PUBG: Battlegrounds, and both it and its mobile counterpart have gotten a load of bizarre crossovers over the years. I know that, and I thought I was prepared for whatever might come next - but now they've put Baby Shark in the game. Yes, Baby Shark, the song that the young people in your life have probably made you sick of. Close to ten billion views on YouTube, infuriatingly catchy, impossible to get out of your head once you're thinking about it. (Sorry, by the way.) The PC version of PUBG is still safe, thankfully, but a new PUBG Mobile event means you've gotta suffer the children's song even in a game rated for ages 17+. The event, which lasts until November 11, gives Baby Shark tokens for stuff like daily logins or playing with friends. You can then spend those tokens to get a Baby Shark emote, a Baby Shark outfit, a Baby Shark frying pan skin, or the Baby Shark music. RELATED LINKS: PUBG new map, PUBG weapons, Play PUBG

| PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 12:14 PM | | Eve Online is one of the longest-running MMORPGs out there, and that's despite a reputation for being a game of 'spreadsheets in space.' Developer CCP Games has laboured for years to smooth out its notoriously steep learning curve, and a revamped new player experience, which rolled out just before its arrival on the Epic Games Store in September, might be just the thing to keep players around long enough to get hooked. When you create a new character - or capsuleer - in Eve Online, you have the option to complete the tutorial, which now includes a much more dramatic narrative sequence that helps set up the universe of New Eden and introduces elements of Eve's daunting UI piece by piece. "One of the key principles we had was 'never overwhelm,'" Tryggvi Hjaltason, a senior strategist at CCP, tells us. "We were trying to figure out what's the main reason players turn from our game early. And the number one reason by far - it's like 68% or something - is that they're overwhelmed." | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 12:03 PM | | Want to know more about the Zombies mode in Call of Duty Vanguard? Treyarch is returning this year to continue the Dark Aether storyline, an interdimensional tale that started in Black Ops 4 back in 2018. Zombies is the first story mode in the history of the series to span multiple Call of Duty games, creating a unified story around the Dark Aether that remains consistent from the beginning to the end. The story this year focuses on a new set of characters as they attempt to take down the Nazi's zombie horde. Treyarch says returning fans will appreciate the story, but the new operators will also appeal to newcomers. While returning fans have been asking the devs for a round-based zombies mode, it appears Treyarch wants to try something slightly different this year. According to the Call of Duty data miners, round-based maps will return in Vanguard Season 1. Here's everything we know about Call of Duty Vanguard's zombie mode so far, including the story, powers, and maps available at launch.

| PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 11:32 AM | | Want to know how to complete all of the Fortnite punchcard challenges? For those who weren't around when punchcards last appeared in Fortnite, they provide a series of challenges to be tackled in a particular order. Fortnite punchcards fall into two different categories: daily and weekly punchcards, and character punchcards. Each character punchcard has five challenges for you to complete, with each one appearing straight after the first one is complete. You can only follow up to five questlines at a time, so look at the Fortnite NPCs locations to find out where to pick up another questline after you've finished all five in one batch. You may wish to plan to complete several of these challenges in one go, so here are all of the Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 punchcard challenges in the game. Some quests refer to a new area called the Sideways, which has all sorts of nasty creatures inside. There's a ton to go through right now, and more quests will appear when more NPCs appear in the game - this week sees Ember, Sledgehammer, and Shadow Ops join the list. | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 10:47 AM | | Given how different Intel's Alder Lake hybrid architecture is from its predecessors, it's unsurprising that its arrival ushers in a new chipset. Z690 comes with some universal features, such as support for PCIe Gen 5 and DDR5 gaming RAM, but you may want to consider pairing team blue's upcoming processors with an Asus motherboard thanks to a simple but smart addition. Hardware leaker Momomo_us (via Videocardz) has captured a screenshot of an Asus ROG Strix motherboard product page, which details the new 'PCIe Slot Q-release' feature. Through the press of a button on the motherboard, users are able to unlock the first PCIe slot's security latch, removing the need to fish behind the bulk of the best graphics cards to manually toggle the latch. It's unclear whether this feature will make its way to more budget-oriented motherboards like those using the previously leaked H670 and B660 chipsets, but Alder Lake's reveal event scheduled for tomorrow should lead to more detailed product pages popping up. | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 10:40 AM | | Now that League of Legends patch 11.21 has made its way to live servers, it's time to take a look at what's next for Riot's popular MOBA game. We're slowly coming to the end of the League of Legends' 2021 patch schedule, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty still ahead. The headline of this patch is the raft of Preseason 2022 changes. Riot says that the tweaks will be available on the PBE for the next four weeks to ensure the team gets all the feedback it needs before going live with the final set of updates in November. The developer also says that things are pretty early, so expect changes to things like icons, item and effect names, visual and sound effects, stat values, and more. That's not all you're getting, though. Jayce and Vi are also getting some rather dapper looking Arcane skins, while Blizcrank will have a Victorious skin, as victorious is he. The patch cycle has just begun, so there's still much more to come, but we're off to a nifty start. RELATED LINKS: Best LoL Champions , League of Legends patch 11.20, LoL tier list

| PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 10:03 AM | | Want to know where the Fortnite NPCs are? Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 is now live, and it's all change for how quests work, as Fortnite punchcards return. Punchcards are obtained from Fortnite NPCs and each contains a series of quests for you to complete. Each of the Fortnite NPC punchcards has five quests you need to complete to finish their questline, some of which ask you to go into The Sideways. Luckily, you only need to talk to these NPCs once to begin their questline, though since you only have five punchcard slots, you can only pick up five questlines at once. Once you've completed a questline, you are free to find one of the other NPCs and start their punchcard quests. NPCs don't just give out quests. They also have items for sale, taking gold bars as payment. Some of these items are vital to complete quests, so it's worth remembering where they are. To help you out, we've put together a guide to all the Fortnite NPCs locations. There's already a hint that Epic will add more NPCs to the map soon, so do check back often to see if there is anyone new to find throughout the season. | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 10:02 AM | | 26/10/21 Xbox consoles can now access Nvidia's GeForce Now streaming platform using Microsoft Edge. The line between console and PC is forever blurring, especially when it comes to hardware similarities like NVMe gaming SSD storage. Yet, while they're all designed for gaming, consoles typically lack the utilities and functionality available to gaming PC users. Now, thanks to Microsoft's latest Edge for Xbox update, the browser has keyboard and mouse support, as well as access to desktop sites, web apps, and even Google Stadia. Included in Microsoft's September Xbox Update, the new, Chromium-based web browser feels like an uncanny desktop experience. Not only does it let you navigate the web with a gaming mouse and keyboard setup, but you can now use sites like Discord and YouTube, just like you would on a PC. The browser even works with apps like Google Docs, which means in theory, you could use your Xbox for both work and play. While the new Edge browser makes the Xbox experience feel like a PC, there are some caveats to consider. For starters, while cloud services like Stadia are compatible with Edge, Nvidia's GeForce Now is currently unsupported. It's also worth noting that you won't be able to play games with a mouse and keyboard through Stadia. So, if you're considering using an Xbox at your desk, you'll need to keep a controller handy for gaming - and at least you'll be able to hop right into the best Xbox Series X games on a whim. | PCGamesN Tuesday, October 26, 2021 8:09 AM | | Nvidia Reflex Low Latency is yet another tool in the green team's arsenal that'll improve your gaming experience. Designed to lower input lag by up to 80%, Reflex aims to give you the edge in competitive FPS games, such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Valorant, by helping you hit your shots quicker, lowering the latency tax when you crank up your resolution, and potentially reducing peeker's advantage under the right conditions. Nvidia Reflex is a proprietary technology and, much like DLSS and RTX, requires you to run a GeForce GPU. However, you don't need the best graphics card to benefit from it. Reflex should improve latency on anything from the GTX 900 series onwards, although higher-end cards like the RTX 3080 /will/ see better performance. Reflex is a free feature and has next to no performance overhead, meaning you have little reason not to use it in supported games. Some of the best gaming monitor options from Asus, Acer, and Alienware also come with Reflex compatibility, so you might you're already equipped to experience Nvidia's graphics card tech. | PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, October 26, 2021 3:30 PM | | If one tried to count every piece of media featuring zombies, they might end up dead themselves. Because of zombie-related media's sheer prevalence, many may understandably think that creators and developers have completely sapped the concept of any further potential for expansion. Countless games see players fighting against zombies. But fewer games ask players to control a zombie, let alone an army of them. The Unliving, a real-time strategy game starring a necromancer that commands an army of the undead, aims to cater to this exact fantasy. Fortunately for those curious enough to try the game out, publisher Team17 and developer RocketBrush Studio just put out a demo for The Unliving on Steam. According to a press release, the demo provides players with "a sneak peek at one of the levels, a boss challenge involving escorting an engorged undead ally towards an objective, and 40 abilities and undead upgrades to try out." The press release details a few of the abili...

| PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, October 26, 2021 3:15 PM | | Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is now available, bringing with it hours of spacefaring shenanigans. You're not just here for the tunes and heavily-armed raccoons, I'm guessing. Since you'll be blasting off for the first time, I've written up some tips that'll get you focused while you get accustomed to the ins and outs of the game's systems. After all, you do want to save the galaxy, right? Oh, and if you're ever in trouble, don't forget to huddle up and heal immediately too. The game teaches you about that, but it's easy to forget since you won't often need it. But who likes restarting from checkpoints anyway? Don't sweat the choices much While playing Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, you'll occasionally be given choices that shape bits of the story. While these do lead to different scenes, you have no control over the grander scheme of things. As such, you shouldn't worry whether or...

| PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, October 26, 2021 3:00 PM | | Once you enter the latter part of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, you'll be confronted with the game's second major boss battle where you'll have to beat Fin Fing Foom. As you've no doubt noticed, there's a pretty substantial gap between the first and second big fights. But at least they went big. Fin Fang Foom is, obviously, a giant space dragon. He's also one of the oldest characters in the game, as he was created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. It's not a tough fight, but there are a couple of things that could possibly confuse players, so I'm going to break down what you need to know to stomp the big guy flat. When the fight starts, you're not going to be able to hurt Fin Fang Foom for a while. If you look, that's because he's wearing four pieces of armor. There's one on each arm, one on his torso, and the last is on his face. The opening section of the fight won't end until all four are destroyed....

| PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, October 26, 2021 2:45 PM | | The Dweller in Darkness is the first major boss you'll face in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and the fight is quite the spectacle. While it's not difficult, it can drag on a while longer if you're not too sure of what you're supposed to be doing. When the fight starts, you should know that you cannot shoot its body, nor can you direct your teammates to attack it. The dead giveaway is that you can only lock onto its tentacles. These tentacles do have health and stun bars, but they're not actually your main focus here. You'll need to stay mobile, as the Dweller in Darkness likes to slam its tentacles down onto the ground. This is easy enough to dodge, so just keep moving and you'll be fine. Either lock-on or shoot one of the tentacles until its stun gauge is filled. Once it is, the creature will glow red and become vulnerable to your attacks. Once you deplete a tentacle's health, you can then freeze the gel pool that the tentac...

| PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, October 26, 2021 2:30 PM | | Torn Banner Studios' epic medieval warfare game has just received some huge additions. As part of the Fight Knight update, Chivalry 2 players can now enjoy two new game modes, a new weapon, and a fully-featured Halloween event. This update even offers a new method of fighting, as players can now headbutt others to death as a last resort after losing their limbs. This update is being added as part of the developer's goal to make Chivalry 2 "live for a very long time." And that's not just Torn Banner Studios' CEO and creative director Steve Piggott talking a big game. His studio has already unveiled a development roadmap on its official Trello page. New ways to play The Fight Knight update introduced two new game modes into Chivalry 2. First up is Brawl mode, a tavern brawl-styled battle where players spawn with no weapons. It is possible to pick up whatever you can find lying around to attack other players, though. Be it a chair or beer stei...
