When I nail an MV-38 Condor transport hovering in the lens flare-filled sky with my rocket launcher, Battlefield 2042 is awesome. It's not always easy to predict which shows will instantly become appointment television. A dark fantasy series based on a half-completed run of novels? Yup! In my mind, The Legend of Tianding is a perfect gaming experience. Not because it can do everything, or that it allows the player to do anything. It's perfect because it accomplishes all of its aesthetic and storytelling goals without overstaying its welcome. Despite offering only six story-driven chapters, its gritty…
Today during Microsoft's 20th anniversary Xbox event, the company announced that 76 new games are being added to the Xbox backwards compatibility library, including the entire Max Payne franchise, F.E.A.R series, multiple Star Wars games, and more. Let's get this out of the way: Given all the ~everything~, simply releasing a game in 2021 is nothing short of a miracle. Every single one deserves a round of applause. But some, let's face it, are better than others. As summer wraps, we thought it'd be fun to shine a light on the games that have excited us, moved us,…

You might want to dust off your fake sneeze. Halo Infinite's multiplayer component, which was initially slated for a December 8 release, is available today. Microsoft announced the news during Xbox's 20th anniversary stream. And yes, it's still a separate free-to-play mode. I'm, uh, suddenly not feeling so hot, boss.
The next major update for American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 is coming in fast - so fast, in fact, that it's already here in beta form. The 1.43 open beta is now available in both truck games, giving you a chance to test out the new features while they're still a little bit buggy. Here's what to expect.
Both games are getting ownable dumpers. (Or 'dump trailers', as every trucker I've ever known has called them.) In ATS, you'll have access to end dumpers, live floor dumpers, and side dumpers, and the latter will be available in B-double, turnpike, and single configurations. In ETS2, you'll be able to choose between aluminium and steel bodies, short or long lengths, and two or three axles.
You'll also see - or rather, hear - an interior cabin sound update in both games, which should bring us more realistic sound simulation when driving in first person. An update to fonts will also make sure all the onscreen text looks sharp at every resolution.

Shonen Jump's most beloved ninja has been rumoured for Fortnite for what feels like ages, and that launch is finally about to happen. Here's what you can expect from the launch of the new update.
Fortnite v18.40 downtime begins on Tuesday, November 19 at 1am PST / 4am EST / 9am GMT. Matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes ahead of those times. (Epic's initial tweet suggesting an 8am UTC launch was incorrect.) Downtime usually lasts for an hour or two, and once servers are back up, you'll be able to see the new content, including Naruto. A YouTube premiere on the collab is set to launch at the same time.
According to leakers, a Hidden Leaf Village creative hub will be coming alongside the Naruto cosmetics. The update also introduces some XP tweaks that might put an end to Creative mode XP farms.

While today's launch is officially being called a 'beta', it's effectively the full, free-to-play multiplayer side of Infinite, and with free multiplayer games comes monetisation. So here's what you can expect to pay for.
Over in the item shop, the most expensive thing available right now is the Zvezda armour set, priced at 2,000 credits, or $20 USD. That includes the bleached bone armour coating (it makes your armour white), seven armour customisation items (helmet, helmet attachment, visor, left and right shoulder pads, chest plate, and knee pads) and the 'stay hydrated' stance.
The item shop, which resets weekly on Tuesdays at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 6pm GMT, also contains a $15 USD collection of vehicle cosmetics. (There's also a set of Halo Championship Series skins themed after groups like Cloud9 and Faze Clan, $10 USD apiece.) Daily items include a $10 USD helmet, and a $5 USD collection of emblems to put on armour, vehicles, and weapons. A $2 USD pack will get you two XP boosts and two challenge swaps. You can also spend $2 USD to immediately gain a battle pass level.

The multiplayer game's numbers continue to rise, too.
Microsoft announced that the free multiplayer mode for Halo Infinite was live during the Xbox 20th anniversary stream earlier today, November 15. Within about an hour, Halo Infinite had crossed the 100,000 concurrent player threshold, but as of this writing that number just continues to go up. At 12 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. GMT, the game was still rising at 118,575 players on Steam.
That number, of course, doesn't account for however many players are logging in and playing through the Xbox app for Windows, which has had a pre-load option for Halo Infinite available for some time. Today's 'surprise' launch was hinted at ahead of time, too, with leaks appearing on the Microsoft Store and Google over the past weekend.
RELATED LINKS: Halo Infinite release date, Halo Infinite E3 2019, Halo: The Master Chief Collection PCNew World has been wildly popular since launch - the MMORPG is still the third-biggest game on Steam - and with that popularity has come a tidal wave of players looking to find the exploits in the game's systems. Those exploits have apparently not been difficult to find. After another duplication exploit started circulating over the weekend, the devs at Amazon have once again disabled the in-game economy.
"We are aware of a possible duplication exploit that has been circulating the forums and social media," the devs say on the official forums. "We are disabling all forms of wealth transfer between players (ie. sending currency, guild treasury, trading post, player to player trading) while we investigate. Any player that has engaged in the use of this exploit will be actioned against."
The exploit appears to allow players to duplicate furniture items, and the in-game market has been flooded with trophies since the issue began to make the rounds. As PC Gamer notes, there have been numerous posts about the issue on the official bug report forums, and the devs are still investigating.

Word of the competitive half of 343's latest Halo game getting an early release started circulating over the weekend, and as part of today's 20th anniversary Xbox stream, Microsoft confirmed the news.
Halo Infinite multiplayer lands today across Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, and PC via Steam, as well as the Xbox app and Microsoft Store. It's technically a beta, but today's launch includes "Season 1 content including all maps, core modes, Academy features, and Battle Pass", according to the official site. Despite the 'beta' branding, everything you unlock here will carry over when the game officially launches - with the campaign - at the full Halo Infinite release date in December. Season 1 lasts until May 2022.
Today, November 15, marks the anniversary of the launch of both the original Xbox console and Halo: Combat Evolved back in 2001. It's been 20 years since Halo proved that FPS games could work on a console, and thus 20 years since we PC players had to start proving that mouse aim is still better. Infinite is the first game in the series to launch simultaneously across both PC and console, so the battle is much more straightforward this time around.
RELATED LINKS: Halo Infinite release date, Halo Infinite E3 2019, Halo: The Master Chief Collection PCAge of Empires IV has been trucking on nicely since the RTS game released at the end of October, and the development team at Relic is already hard at work releasing patches and essential bug fixes while the community decides which of the new Age of Empires 4 civilizations they prefer.
Today's smaller patch focuses on some high profile bugs and "balance issues related to Mongol town centers". Specifically, Mongol town center capital, which like most other Mongol structures can be packed up and moved around, can no longer be placed in unexplored territory, and it must now be placed at least 20 tiles from an enemy player's town center.
The Age of Empires team says patch 7989 also includes some optimisations that will "drastically reduce performance drops when panning the camera across the map". If you're playing Age of Empires IV on Steam, you'll now also be able to link to your Xbox Live account. The team has also fixed an issue with disappearing unit health bars, which players reported would sometimes disappear even if they'd set them to remain visible.
RELATED LINKS: Age of Empires 4 release date, Age of Empires 4 review, The best RTS games on PCConsdering we know that Firaxis is currently working on a turn-based tactics game called Marvel: Midnight Suns, it's the perfect time to talk about XCOM 3. Back in 1994, game designer Julian Gollop launched the legendary turn-based strategy game X-COM: UFO Defense. In case you've somehow missed it (seriously, what have you been doing!?) it's a unique and unforgiving strategy game that depicts a secret organisation fighting to stop an alien invasion.
It was pretty iconic and inspired Firaxis Games' Creative Director Jake Solomon to become a game designer in the first place. Many years later, he spearheaded the team that launched XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a spiritual remake of Gollop's UFO Defense.
The reboot achieved unprecedented heights in the turn-based strategy genre, marrying a tale of humanity and military heroism to the original's unforgiving gameplay where any of your elite soldiers can be killed in a mission, permanently removing them from the campaign. 70% of players failed their first campaign, but it didn't matter: XCOM's second coming was a hit. 2016 saw a sequel in the form of XCOM 2, but it required a couple of hefty DLC drops to really shine.
Outriders is getting a "colossal" free content update on November 16. Called New Horizon, the update will bring a reworked expedition loot reward system, brand-new expeditions to explore, and new customisation options for your characters.
The New Horizon update marks the first major post-launch content drop for Outriders, and a key feature is the rework to expeditions - the endgame missions available after you've wrapped the main campaign. Before the New Horizon update, players had to complete these expeditions as quickly as possible to get the best loot; however, this is no longer the case. The reworked expeditions do away with any time-based rewards, instead offering more rewards based on how long it should generally take to complete that expedition. There's still an option to turn on timers for expeditions for those who want the challenge, but this is just for bragging rights - you won't get any extra goodies for doing so.
The biggest effect of this change is that it'll take as long to complete a single long expedition as multiple runs of shorter expeditions to get the same loot. It should also give players the freedom to go into an expedition without pigeonholing themselves into a specific Outriders build designed to get through expeditions as quickly as possible. This update works in tandem with previous updates that increase legendary loot drop rates and the system that reduces the chance of picking up duplicates of legendary loot you already have.

Rumours about the game have been circulating since September, and a new batch of discussion suggests that the game will be announced in December.
Putting some caveats before his report, industry insider Jeff Grubb says in his latest GrubbSnax podcast (paywalled): "You can go to Reddit, make a forum post about this if you want, but I'm going to say right now: I'm not certain. I think it is a Star Wars: High Republic game, and it's called Star Wars Eclipse. That's what I'm hearing."
Grubb says he expects an official announcement on the game "probably before the end of the year", and posits two potential venues for that reveal. One is Geoff Keighley's Game Awards on December 9. The other is an ongoing series of announcements of new Star Wars merchandise at StarWars.com. The site has teased a videogame-related announcement for December 14.

Square Enix had said that Outriders was successful enough for them to justify expanding upon it, and so they shall. During a stream today they announced a big free update is coming to People Can Fly's looter-shooter on Tuesday, with a full expansion to follow in 2022. This week's free additions will include new Expeditions and a transmogrification system so you can make your wizards look all fancy.
While Halo Infinite doesn't officially launch until December, surprise! The FPS's full multiplayer launched today into open beta, though it has all the maps and modes, it is the official start of the first season, and all progress will carry over, so basically it's out now, just might be a bit wonky. Hinfinite's multiplayer side is free-to-play so all are invited.
