PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 1:48 PM Capcom Arcade Stadium reached nearly a half-million concurrent players on Steam earlier today, making it the eighth-biggest game in the platform's history. There's a free download with access to classic shmup 1943 but, uh… well, this isn't exactly the only way to play arcade games for free on PC. You can thank bots and Valve's trading card system for that. If you keep a close eye on SteamDB's list of the most-played Steam games of all-time, you'll find some weird names in the top 25, like Life is Strange 2, Postal, World of Warships, and Kathy Rain. Some of those games are quite popular, but not normally at the level of the platform's biggest games. What they all have in common is that they briefly went free without disabling access to Steam trading cards, drawing bots to idle in those games so they could resell the cards on the Steam marketplace. At a peak of 488,791 players, though, Capcom Arcade Stadium is the biggest bot draw ever. (The game didn't even clear 1,000 concurrents at launch.) As SteamDB developer Pavel Djundik tells PC Gamer, cards just became available for the collection, drawing in bots by the hundreds of thousands. |
PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 1:28 PM Historical 4X game Humankind has been running a seasonal event this month, but it's run into a few snags. Players have reported losing progress on various challenges in Humankind's Dia de los Muertos limited time event, which has led to frustration as it draws to its scheduled conclusion. Amplitude has announced that it's got a fix on the way, and that it's extending the event into December to give players more time to finish. Dia de los Muertos will now run until December 21, rather than wrapping up today, November 30. Amplitude says it's worked out what the problem was that was causing lost progress on the event challenges, but that it won't be ready to deploy a fix until mid-December. Many players reported losing their progress on the Civil Evolution and Necropolis challenges, while others said they'd been able to complete all the challenges and unlock the new avatar preset, Catrina, but were not able to use it. Fortunately, Amplitude says it will be granting the event rewards to anyone who has made progress on any of the challenges prior to the forthcoming patch. PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 12:38 PM The Genshin Impact 2.4 update is due to arrive in early 2022 and will coincide with the anniversary of last February's Lantern Rite festival, an extensive celebration with plenty of activities and rewards. Genshin Impact fans have uncovered information indicating that the Lantern Rite festival will return during 2.4, and may include a rerun of the immensely popular Windtrace event. In addition to Lantern Rite, 2.4 may also introduce a new area called Enkanomiya. According to information from the 2.4 beta, this mysterious region is accessed from Inazuma, although it has its own separate map. Reportedly, Enkanomiya operates on a unique day/night cycle, and players can manually switch between Evernight and Whitenight in order to solve puzzles and modify the environment. Genshin Impact 2.4 could also include two new characters - Yun Jin and Shenhe - and dataminers have uncovered new skins for Keqing and Ningguang, in addition to hangout events and new weapons, and new furnishings for the Genshin Impact Serenitea Pot. This information is based on beta gameplay and has not been officially confirmed by Mihoyo. With that in mind, here's everything we know about the next Genshin Impact update ahead of the Genshin Impact 2.4 release date. PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 12:11 PM Grand strategy games are an emerging sub-genre of strategy games that typically encompass long periods of history (or, if sci-fi, time), and involve many intricate layers that players need to contend with. It's not just about winning that war or setting up this mine; you've got to develop infrastructure, set policy, and manage internal dynamics over the long term. This genre often involves the exploration of the map in order to better understand the resources at your command and the position of your enemies – and your friends. Lines blur when picking apart the edge cases, but by and large count on grand strategy games to make the management of your faction the primary part of the experience. They often over-lap with other genres within strategy gaming, especially 4X games, but a key difference can be in framing. Games like Civilization, for example, typically put the emphasis on managing military resources in particular, with other mechanics in a supporting role. It can also be just as much a case as to what the accepted definitions are and how a game is marketed. In any case, this is definitely a genre worth exploring in more detail. PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 12:18 PM Want to know what this week's Destiny 2 Nightfall weapon is? Each week you've got a chance at a different weapon for completing Nightfall Strikes, and as of Season of the Lost, you can now get fan-favourite legacy weapons from the original Destiny. Two more of these weapons arrived in Season of the Lost, so it's more important than ever to know in advance the Nightfall weapon schedule. In case all these words are new to you, Nightfall: The Ordeal is a playlist available in the Vanguard menu, alongside the basic Strike playlist. Each week, a different Strike is chosen as the Nightfall, and offered in five escalating difficulties, with harder enemies, challenging modifiers, and enemy power levels cranking up. The coveted Nightfall weapons have a chance to drop from any Nightfall Strike difficulty, but it's far more likely at higher levels. Your best bet for farming each week's Nightfall weapon is to set the Strike to Master difficulty, according to YouTuber Aztecross. You should also note that there's no automatic matchmaking above Hero difficulty, however, so you'll need to get a squad together. PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 12:03 PM Want to know more about the new Warzone map? Sledgehammer Games' WWII themed release will integrate with Warzone in December 2021, introducing new weapons, vehicles, and a brand new WWII map set to replace '80s Verdansk. The new map is called Caldera, and it's going to launch with Vanguard and Warzone Season 1. Black Ops Cold War fully integrated with the battle royale game at the beginning of Season 3 with the release of '80s Verdansk, five months after its November launch. There were a number of issues with the Cold War integration that took a while to fix: popular weapons were completely unbalanced for months, attachments didn't function like they were supposed to, and weapon balancing on Modern Warfare weapons completely stopped. A recent Call of Duty blog post broke down everything coming to Warzone less than a month after Vanguard launches. There are plenty of in-game events on the run up to Warzone Pacific, so stay tuned for more information. Here's everything we know about the new Warzone map so far. |
PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 11:43 AM Although update 2.3 in Genshin Impact is out this week, attention is starting to drift further afield as a long-rumoured character is reportedly coming to the anime game in the not-too-distant future. Yun Jin's name has popped up several times already in Genshin Impact. Back in January 2021, dataminer Lumie shared a render of the character on Twitter. She has also appeared in the game, albeit scarcely. We caught a glimpse of her during a recent cutscene for the Moonchase Festival, and several existing characters mention her by name in their voice lines. Here's everything we know about Yun Jin in Genshin Impact so far. Mihoyo has revealed Yun Jin in a recent tweet, although we don't know her abilities just yet, it is confirmed she's a Geo polearm and is the director of the Yun-Han Opera Troupe and is famous figure in Liyue Harbor's opera scene. She was unveiled alongside Shenhe, another polearm user with Geo abilities. RELATED LINKS: Play Genshin Impact for free, Genshin Impact character tier list, Genshin Impact leveling guide |
PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 11:01 AM Hearts of Iron IV received a new hotfix today, its third in the week since expansion No Step Back's launch its third since the release of the No Step Back expansion, and a bigger update is on the cards for next week. The 1.11.3 micro-patch doesn't do much other than fix some AI issues and some bugs, but it builds on other fixes introduced at the end of last week. These dealt with issues around other expansion content and anti-virus software preventing the game from launching. Now that these early teething issues are out of the way, we expect the next few patches to deal with other critical bits of feedback that have come from the formidable Hearts of Iron IV playerbase getting its hands on the game. The Hearts of Iron IV development team is running a small beta test for the new patch, and you can see the current list of proposed changes on the official forums. There are a lot more fixes coming down the pipe, although it remains to be seen which changes will actually make the final release. We imagine all of the bug fixes will, but there are balance changes as well which will need fine-tuning. PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 11:01 AM While Valve has been forced to delay the Steam Deck by two months due to global supply chain issues, many developers are reaping the benefits. One such team is Re-Logic, with the Terraria developer explaining on a Steam blog that the extra time has allowed the team to push its ambitions for the Steam Deck port event further. "We are going to gratefully take the extra time allowed by the recent Steam Deck launch delays to take our deck optimisations a bit further," Re-Logic explains. "More on that later, once we get a bit further clear from the 1.4.3 launch/fixes!" If you're not keen to wait, though, the good news is that the Terraria Switch release date has been pencilled in for January 4, 2022. It's not quite the Steam Deck, but it's portable enough, we're sure. You've also got plenty to keep you going in the meantime, too, as Terraria has just got its second major crossover update - this time with indie survival game Don't Starve. The collaboration features new content, such as the Deer Clops boss, new items, and a new world seed that introduces Don't Starve Together gameplay elements into the world of Terraria. PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 10:59 AM Cloud gaming is all the rage these days, with the likes of Xbox Cloud Gaming (formerly project xCloud) facilitating bringing sharp and responsive gaming experiences on Microsoft Edge compatible devices. There's no doubt that some gamers will use the upcoming Steam Deck for streaming too, but a new dev kit leak suggests Razer could be conjuring up a new Snapdragon-powered stream machine in collaboration with Qualcomm. According to leaked slides obtained by Videocardz, the collaborate Razer handheld features Qualcomm's Snapdragon G3x, a chip that's 20% faster than the company's current-gen SoC, and a 4th Gen Adreno GPU. Documentation for the device also suggests that it'll be marketed as a cloud gaming machine, meaning it could support services like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now. CPU and GPU specs aside, the unannounced Razer device boasts a 120Hz HDR OLED display and a hefty 6,000mAh battery, both of which could put devices like the upcoming Steam Deck to shame. That said, while the dev kit's design likely isn't final, it does look more like a cross between a Wii U gamepad and a Gizmondo than a handheld from this decade. PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 10:56 AM Starfield, the upcoming space game from Bethesda Game Studios, is a "more grounded" experience than Skyrim, but game director Todd Howard says you'll still have that signature experience of stepping out into a marvellous new world - in fact, Howard hints, there are two such moments in Starfield. In the first of a new series of videos called Into the Starfield, the RPG's lead developers chat about its lineage and the experience they've brought to bear working on it. It features a few new glimpses of Starfield, both in-game footage and concept art. The developers discuss some of the goals the studio has for Starfield, as well as how its new setting provides opportunities for the team to use their varied talents and interests in fields like robotics and engineering. "It's got a more realistic, science-based backing to it," art director Matt Carofano says. "Whereas Skyrim is sort of an epic fantasy, this is a more grounded game, and a grounded setting about exploration. I think that gives us a different take on how we make everything." PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 10:20 AM Digital Extremes has revealed that Warframe's The New War expansion will release on December 15, 2021. The release date was announced during Warframe's final devstream of the year, which also featured a CG story trailer and details on hosted giveaways and Twitch drops. If you've been out of the loop, The New War is Warframe's next free cinematic questline. You take control of a new playable character, which is a first for the sci-fi game. The story unfolds across three acts and features various missions set in new environments, including open worlds besieged by Sentients. There's plenty that you'll find familiar, too. Digital Extremes explains in a press release that you'll "take control" of enemies like Kahl-175 the Grineer, Veso the Corpus Tech, and the Dax: Teshin as they fight to push back the invading Sentient force. Story details are light right now for spoiler reasons, but the developer teases that "while the war rages on, so will the fight for the truth behind the conflict - understanding the Lotus' past to unlock a new future". Alongside a new story to progress through, you're also getting more customisations, weapons, and accessories. There's also the Caliban, which is Warframe's 48th unique, uh, Warframe. Think of it as a Sentient-Warframe hybrid, which makes it fit neatly into the expansion theme. |
PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 10:04 AM Genshin Impact is getting two new characters called Yun Jin and Shenhe. The pair have sporadically popped up in datamines over the past year, but Mihoyo has now confirmed on Twitter that they are real, continuing a trend of introducing characters before they're due to get a banner. Shenhe is a Cryo user who wields a polearm in battle. She hails from a clan of exorcists and is a disciple of an adeptus called Cloud Retainer, who chooses to take the form of a white crane for what it's worth. Mihoyo further fleshes out her background by sharing that, of all the pupils Cloud Retainer has taken on, Shenhe bears the closest resemblance to her. Shenhe thinks she's neat, too - believing her to be a "knowledgeable and chatty" master. Here's everything we know about Shenhe's banner in Genshin Impact and when we can expect to see her in upcoming updates. PCGamesN Tuesday, November 30, 2021 10:38 AM Want to know about every gun in Battlefield 2042? Unlike other games in the series, Battlefield 2042 scraps the traditional class system which ties weapons to specific classes - If you wanted to use an SMG in Battlefield 5, you were forced to pick the Medic class even if you had no intention of healing or reviving dead teammates. The new Battlefield 2042 Specialist system allows players to pick the weapons they want, alongside the gadget and trait that suits them best. This also opens up Battlefield to different types of classes other than the usual Recon, Support, Assault, and Medic archetypes. There are ten specialists available in Battlefield 2042. There's also the 'Plus System' in Battlefield 2042 that gives players the ability to change their weapon attachments on the fly. If your assault rifle has an ACOG scope that isn't needed on a close quarters map, remove the optics and revert back to iron sights to get a clearer shot. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, November 30, 2021 12:00 PM In the last few weeks I've spent a lot of time looking through scopes. Red dots and ACOGs and telescopic ones. From one FPS to the other, I put my eye up to a lens and I press triggers. Sometimes I'm a sniper dropping Nazis to protect my father, sometimes I'm a soldier surrounded by 127 other players. Lately, I'm a chunky spartan with crunchy crayon armour. All this time with the three big FPSes of the year, each packaged in their own ways, has left me wondering what's important nowadays. Do they need campaigns, or is multiplayer-only the way to go? How about introducing one a bit later than the other? |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, November 30, 2021 4:00 PM Nvidia is reportedly planning to introduce two new GPU architectures to its lineup of RTX 4000 Series cards. Making use of TSMC's N5 process technology, these new architectures will net significant performance boosts in comparison to the current node used for the RTX 3000 Series lineup. This report comes from DigiTimes. Nvidia uses Samsung's 8LPP fabrication process to make its RTX 3000 Series GPUs. The Ampere architecture is also already making use of TSMC's capabilities with the N7 node to produce the high-performance GA100 GPU for professional applications. But now, Nvidia has reportedly decided to use TSMC's N5 process technology for its lineup of RTX 4000 Series cards, cutting out Samsung's role in the manufacturing process. In terms of logistics and partner agreements, it makes sense for Nvidia to streamline the production of its next GPU lineup somewhat. The dual foundry approach to the gaming and professional lineups makes sense for the company in theory, but there ha... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, November 30, 2021 3:45 PM When Mojang Studios first unveiled its ambitious new Minecraft update, titled Caves and Cliffs, back in 2020, the developer initially wanted it to come out as a single update. However, due to the sheer scope of the update, the developer decided to release it in two separate halves. Mojang Studios already released the first half of the update on June 8 of this year, and it incorporated a whole host of new blocks, items, and wildlife into the game. And just today, the developer dropped the update's second half, dubbed 1.18 Caves and Cliffs Update Part Two, which promises to significantly switch up the standard Minecraft experience. For some, the new cave biomes stand as the most significant additions made in the new update. These biomes, which include Dripstone Caves and Lush Caves, serve to add more visual variety to a game that has existed for over a decade. In addition, the update changes quite a bit regarding the world's procedural generation, allowing for more interes... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, November 30, 2021 3:00 PM It's been roughly a month since developer Endnight Games announced that its follow up to The Forest was getting delayed. At the time, the company offered up a handful of new screenshots, while promising a new trailer in a few weeks' time. Today, we got that and a little bit more. The newest trailer for Sons of the Forest opens up its survival/horror world, and also provides a release date of May 2022. It's pair of treats, really. The trailer itself provides a split look at the game: one half showing off crafting and hunting to a calm soundtrack, while the rest is rife with terror. It's a great overview representation of what The Forest and Sons of the Forest are all about: crafting, survival, and deeply unsettling body horror. The survival part of the game is really just there to help you build up defenses and stockpile goods — before the inevitable attack. The Sons of the Forest trailer offers up plenty of footage to that nature. We see examples... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, November 30, 2021 2:45 PM The bodies littering the floor of the "Everyone is Here" update aren't even cold yet, but Motion Twin and Evil Empire are already teasing the next DLC coming to Dead Cells, The Queen and the Sea. The teaser takes the form of a trailer that showcases a boss enemy, presumably the Queen, as well as three of her assassin minions. The release date for Dead Cells The Queen and the Sea DLC is early next year. We don't know anything else about the timeframe. However, we do know that this will be the biggest DLC Dead Cells has ever received. The Queen and the Sea will also bring an end to the route that began with the previous DLCs, The Bad Seed and Fatal Falls. If you can make it through the two new biomes outside the castle, one of which has a twist unlike anything else in Dead Cells, and you can defeat the new alternative final boss, The Queen, you will be able to enjoy an epic new ending to the game. Motion Twin and Evil Empire said that there will be a lot of new goodies to help ... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Tuesday, November 30, 2021 2:15 PM Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition launched with a lot of problems. And that's the nice way of saying it was a complete train wreck. But it was, and players were understandably pissed at Rockstar and Grove Street Games' handling of the beloved trilogy. Rockstar had since responded, promising patches and returning the old PC ports back to its store. Today, that promised patch is upon us. And it's a big one. The latest update for GTA: The Trilogy addresses around 100 graphical glitches for the game, improves stability, and even deals with that weird rain. The update for the GTA Trilogy mostly addresses the graphics, but there are a few other changes. As mentioned, the update offers some stability improvements, which should help the game run better — in theory, anyway. Rockstar also added the cinematic camera, first introduced by GTA III. It'll offer film-like camera angles as you drive, just in case you didn't already know.... |
