PCGamesN Wednesday, December 15, 2021 7:00 PM From Roblox to Fortnite, Minecraft has actually gained competition for the title of 'biggest game in the world' over the past few years. But when it comes to the crown of 'biggest game on YouTube', it seems Minecraft cannot be stopped. The block-builder has reached over a trillion views on YouTube, the first game in the platform's history to reach that milestone. The numbers themselves are neat and all, but the fun bit is the special stat site YouTube put together to commemorate the milestone (and enjoy a little co-marketing with Microsoft, of course). Minecraft has actually gotten exponentially bigger over the years, and the graphs balloon after about 2020. Minecraft reached 500 billion views late in 2018. By the start of 2019, it had reached 554.3 billion. So the other half of those trillion views have come in within just a fraction of Minecraft's overall lifespan. If Minecraft's life ever runs out, it certainly seems like it won't be any time soon. RELATED LINKS: Minecraft console commands, Minecraft skins, Minecraft mods |
PCGamesN Wednesday, December 15, 2021 5:41 PM Inscryption looks like a deck-building roguelike, and it kind of is, but that's really just a plate on which you're served a helping of genre-blurring metastory. (If you've played developer Daniel Mullins previous Pony Island, you'll have an idea of what to expect.) That's a bit of a shame, because the actual deck-building roguelike that makes up the game's first chapter is pretty fantastic. Well, now you can keep playing it forever. Kaycee's Mod is a "mini-expansion" for Inscryption which the devs have just launched into open beta. As explained in the announcement, "I have received countless requests for an endlessly playable version of Part 1 that emphasizes Leshy's deckbuilding roguelike as a standalone experience. That's what Kaycee's Mod is, and a little more." The mode allows you to progress through Challenge Levels, applying skulls to each run, unlocking new cards as you go. You'll also get dev logs from Kaycee Hobbes which, if you've finished Inscryption, you'll probably find pretty interesting. More changes are coming as the beta progresses, including balance adjustments, additional cards and items, a final encounter, and additional drops of lore. |
PCGamesN Wednesday, December 15, 2021 5:04 PM If you both understand how to make sense of From Software lore and are looking forward to Elden Ring, you're going to have to exercise some caution on the internet for the next couple of months. The Elden Ring network test has been datamined, leading to the release of thousands of voice lines and a whole lot of story details. If you want to go in fresh, you've been warned. We won't go into the content of the leaks here, but this appears to be connected to the recently-discovered PlayStation 4 jailbreak, which has allowed hackers to regain access to the Elden Ring network test and dig into its files. For some, that means modding in GTA: San Andreas's CJ as a playable character. For others, that means posting much of the Elden Ring plot online. The long-suffering Elden Ring community gets to suffer a little more leading up to release, I guess. The Elden Ring subreddit has already banned discussion of datamined content, as the mods say "unceremoniously spoiling plot points, mechanics and systems long before these are ready for launch is not something this sub will support." PCGamesN Wednesday, December 15, 2021 4:21 PM For the past four years, Arma developer Bohemia Interactive has been working on a brand new game engine. It's called Enfusion, and it will be what powers the studio's future games - including military simulation games like the next Arma. In addition to being a leap forward in visual and audio fidelity, Bohemia says the new engine will support multiple platforms and be easier for modders to use. "Our aging Real Virtuality engine, used in Arma 3, for example, has increasingly run up against its technological limits," says Marek Španěl, Bohemia's founder and CEO. "Enfusion, on the other hand, is ready to face the technological challenges of the future and will without exaggeration form the shape of our games into the next decade." The company says Enfusion allows for simultaneous development across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms, with DirectX 12 support built in for Xbox and PC. At its core is the C++ object-oriented programming language Enforce, with which DayZ modders will be already familiar. Netcode has been enhanced for better multiplayer performance as well. PCGamesN Wednesday, December 15, 2021 2:22 PM Vodeo Workers United has become the first videogame industry union in North America. Management of indie studio Vodeo Games has voluntarily recognised the union, which represents the developer's dozen worker, including a combination of full-time employees and contractors, spread across the United States and Canada. Emma Kinema of the Campaign to Organize Digital Employees of the Communications Workers of America, which partnered with Vodeo Workers United in this effort, tells Polygon that "we've been in a phase the past several years of groundwork building, laying the educational and narrative work around why folks should organize, and why game workers are just like anyone else. All workers deserve a union." Vodeo was founded earlier this year by Asher Vollmer, the developer behind the excellent mobile puzzle game, Threes. (The concept of Threes was later picked up by the unrelated developers of the megahit 2048.) Vodeo's first game as a studio, Beast Breaker, launched on PC and Switch earlier this year. PCGamesN Wednesday, December 15, 2021 1:22 PM Ubisoft Quartz and a range of NFTs coming to Ghost Recon Breakpoint were announced last week to a pretty much universally negative response. Now, GSC Game World has revealed the STALKER Metaverse and STALKER 2 NFTs. As you might imagine, the response has been similarly negative. In concrete terms, the only application of NFT tech that's been announced for STALKER 2 is a token that will let a player become the "first-ever metahuman", as The Verge reports. An auction for that token will take place in January 2022, and whoever gets it will be free to sell it up to an unspecified date in the future. Whoever has the token when that date arrives will be made an NPC in the game. (More NFTs are coming, but the devs aren't specific on what form they'll take.) This is all external to STALKER 2 itself, and the devs explain in a tweet that it is "not a blockchain-based game". (This likely means that it won't be affected by Steam's ban on blockchain games.) NFTs will have "no influence on gameplay" and will be "completely optional". |
PCGamesN Wednesday, December 15, 2021 1:00 PM Diablo 2: Resurrected is getting ranked ladder play, class tweaks, and new rune words in its next big update. While Blizzard hasn't confirmed when patch 2.4 will release fully, the update will be on the Public Test Realm "early next year". Blizzard explains in a blog post that Diablo 2: Resurrected will have four different ladder modes that are modelled after the classic PC game's original offering. Standard is the casual version of ladder play that involves playing through the first four acts, whereas Hardcore involves doing just that but with one life. Standard Expansion and Hardcore Expansion are much the same, but with the Lord of Destruction DLC included, so you have five acts to work through. The incentive to grind Diablo 2: Resurrected's ladder modes is special loot like new rune words. Once the season is done, your ladder characters will move to a particular non-ladder version of the action-RPG so you can start a new character and begin the grind anew. Blizzard hasn't decided how long each season will be just yet, though the developer is monitoring community feedback. You'll also have to wait until a developer stream tomorrow to see any of the new rune words. RELATED LINKS: Diablo 2: Resurrected review, The best RPG games, The best Diablo 2 Resurrected classes |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, December 15, 2021 7:30 PM Cold Iron Studios continues to hammer out free content updates for Aliens: Fireteam Elite. The third-person, co-op shooter where you kill xenos by the thousands got a new mode this week, along with more cards and cosmetics. Aliens: Fireteam Elite – Season 2: Point Defense is a free update for the game, letting you slay away during the holiday break. And yes, that does mean you get a Santa hat you can wear. For something that's free, Point Defense brings a lot to the table. Like Santa, Cold Iron has shown up with a hefty sack of goodies for those who are nice, but especially for the naughty. Four new guns are available to equip and upgrade. The set includes the EVI-87 Zvezda Plasma Rifle, Frontier Revolver, and PPZ-49 Vol. You can also deck the halls out of your weapons with two new skins, as well as two more decals. The 'Festive Hat' is also available along with the Endeavor Wings Cap. But let's be honest, you all are gunning for that Santa hat, aren... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, December 15, 2021 7:15 PM Diablo II: Resurrected, for all its shiny new graphics, has been using the final Diablo II patch since launch. That patch was 1.13c, and it went up in 2010. But now, the time has come for yet another patch, as the game is getting updated again. Patch 2.4 is set to update game balance, change some items, plus add the game's first ladder season. Personally, I'm glad that the current version of the game is getting some love. I'm sure we'll never get to not lose all of our gold and items upon dying, but at least that'll give me something to complain about as the years roll on. Patch 2.4 for Diablo II: Resurrected will appear via portal into the Public Test Realm early next year. In a blog post, Blizzard detailed what we can expect. First and foremost on the list is Ladder Rank Play. Obviously, the original version of the game had these, but now we've got them again. Rejoice, peasants. These include the Standard Ladder, Hardcore Ladder, Standard Expans... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, December 15, 2021 6:45 PM For a while, publisher Arc System Works and developer WayForward trickled out scant pieces of information about River City Girls 2, only showing maybe a few screenshots at most. Over two months ago, however, the two companies finally put out the first trailer for the game, which showcased gameplay and visuals that appeared just as crisp and energetic as the first River City Girls. And to cap off the year, WayForward just put out even more information on River City Girls 2, including its summer 2022 release window. According to WayForward's recent press release, River City Girls 2 continues right where "its predecessor left off." It sees six playable protagonists partaking in "the fight of their lives when an old foe returns to wreak havoc." To aid them in their fight, the protagonists will bring with them "new stat-altering accessories, new items, new weapons, and additional moves," as well as "brand-new abilities like guard-crush atta... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, December 15, 2021 4:00 PM Notions have spread in recent years that traditional turn-based RPGs have fallen out of fashion, particularly in the AAA gaming space. But while it may hold true that turn-based RPGs rarely receive resources and funding on the level of the average AAA game, the genre still has a sizable audience today. Classic turn-based RPG franchises like Dragon Quest and Pokemon still find plenty of success, and a whole host of indie titles have catered to fans of the genre in their own ways. These trends likely won't slow down anytime soon, especially with publisher Raw Fury's recent publisher reveal of Skald: Against the Black Priory, an RPG that leans hard on the old-school aesthetic. Of course, with a new announcement usually comes a new trailer, and the one for Skald clearly gets across its intentions during the short time it lasts. The game depicts its world and characters in a classic, Commodore 64-style, 8-bit aesthetic, and the characters even move around in a grid-based worl... |
