Yesterday was Fire Emblem day! Though really, with how many installments there are in the series, any day could be that day. Still, with Fire Emblem Engage here and more people likely discovering the series, we felt it would be a good time to revisit the best games in the series and recommend some of them to potential players. Hint: They are all pretty great! Just like the bias I have towards FFX as my first Final Fantasy, I have a very strong bias for the Tellius duology. That's Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. The characters were really fun, and even as a stupid child who couldn't read instructions (what in the world was the biorhythm mechanic all about?), I managed to clear it all through sheer grit and plenty of sacrifices. I salute all of the random characters I let die just so that my Nephenee could live. The story was kind of messy but still easy enough to follow, and they were both just a super fun experience. Like, I beat Radiant Dawn four times in the span of a year. Admittedly, I only played half of Path of Radiance because I didn't own a Gamecube, but I liked it just fine. My main gripe was the game forcing me to bring Sothe to the endgame dungeon in Radiant Dawn because he was freaking useless and outclassed by virtually everybody. So thanks, Sothe. — Stephanie
I've said before that I've bounced off nearly every Fire Emblem game I've played besides Three Houses. As it turns out Three Houses was something of a black sheep compared to other games in the series, so whatever Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo did to depart from the formulas established in earlier titles and the Awakening era worked its magic on me. Perhaps it was the daily-life structure or the route-based narrative, or the more realistically proportioned character graphics, but Three Houses is what I think of these days when someone mentions Fire Emblem. — Josh
There are certainly flaws to every Fire Emblem game, but all of them are magical and special in their own way. (Except Mystery of the Emblem. Sorry, bud.) But there's a reason that Awakening saved the franchise. The characters are endearing! There are nods to past fans, but not in a way that muscles out gameplay or story. Also, hey: it can be both approachable for new fans and punishing at higher levels, rewarding smart unit builds and creativity. — Graham

Getting Tiki in Fire Emblem Engage isn't as easy as acquiring the Three Houses Emblem bracelet DLC. That is because you actually need to fight to acquire her. The Emblem of Rivals Bracelet is easily picked up after purchasing the Expansion Pass by going to Lookout Ridge after completing Chapter 4 and seeing the "something was found at Lookout Ridge" notification when heading to the Somniel. So, here's a quick walkthrough on how to find Tiki and reach her during her Divine Paralogue. First, you need to have completed the Paralogue at the Bandit's Hideout to recruit Anna after the Paralogue: Mysterious Merchant in Fire Emblem Engage to reach the Tiki DLC. Once you do, you'll see a new path on the map leading to some islands below Firene. When you're on the world map, just head west from the Bandit Hideout location. You'll automatically be taken to the Divine Paralogues DLC location for the first time. After being here once, you can fast travel to it from, say, the Somniel by choosing Travel from the menu and selecting "To Divine Paralogues."
Tiki's is the first one in this new area, and you can find her at Divine Paralogue: Dragon Temple. This is a fairly substantial map with some unusual mechanics. Tiki will be in a room with a door barring entry to it. You must send characters to Divine Sigils in other rooms to unlock it. So the first Divine Sigil directly north of the entrance to her temple unlocks a door to the West. There's one chest next to it with 2,000G. Ice is all around on the floor, and will spring up more after clearing Sigils, adding +2 movement for all units. The second Sigil is in a room with two chests containing Rescue and Warp Staves. Placing a unit on that Sigil will unlock Tiki's room. Be forewarned that once you unlock doors with Sigils, the enemies in those rooms will start charging your party and won't just wait for you to arrive and attack. Also, after you're inside the castle, more reinforcements like dragons will arrive every turn.
After you beat Tiki, she'll then join your Fire Emblem Engage army as your second DLC bracelet. Before she does, you'll see a bit of dialogue with her and Alear, as well as a brief chat with her and her beloved Mar-Mar. Once the map is done, you can also have a chance of finding an Elusian Cat, Vervain Deer, and White Elyosian Dog to adopt. Fire Emblem Engage is available for the Nintendo Switch, and the Expansion Pass that adds Tiki and Three Houses Emblems as DLC is $29.99. In Persona 4 Golden, Social Links can help you get closer to your friends, as well as power up your Personas. The higher the level is, the more bonus experience you can get when you form Personas of that Arcana. Your party members will benefit from higher Social Link levels too, since they can learn new abilities. But because of the limited time you have in Inaba, you have to plan your schedule wisely lest you end the year without maximizing your bonds. Because some Social Links will unlock another one, or will no longer be accessible after a certain date, you will need to make sure you adjust the order you do things. It's honestly easier to try and max out all of the Social Links on a NG+. This is because you will start the game with all of the Social Stats from before. Since weather can affect whether or not a character is available to interact with, you should keep an eye on the weekly forecast when you decide how to spend your time. As a reminder, you will not be able to access party members' Social Links on investigation days. You also cannot interact with the majority of them if it is raining. Here are the locations of all of the non-story-related Social Links in Persona 4 Golden:
Yosuke Hanamura (Magician): Yosuke's Social Link automatically starts on April 16. On Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, he is in Classroom Building 2F. On Sundays or days off you can find him at Junes. However, you cannot hang out with him if it is raining. Yukiko Amagi (Priestess): Yukiko's Social Link automatically starts on May 17. She is in Classroom Building 1F on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. On days off, she is in front of the bookstore. You will not be able to find her on certain Sundays. She is also not available on rainy days. Margaret (Empress): You can access Margaret's Social Link from May 19, but she will not care about you unless you have Level 3 Knowledge. Margaret's Social Link can be done in a fairly short timespan if you want to focus on other people. This is because she is always available and merely requires you to show her the Persona that she requests. Kanji Tatsumi (Emperor) Unlike the first three party members you get, you need to manually start Kanji's Social Link. It is available from around June 9. To start it, you need to talk to a female student in Classroom Building 2F. After, go to Kanji in Practice Building 1F, which then unlocks the Emperor Social Link. Kanji is available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. He hangs out in Practice Building 1F on weekdays and in front of Tatsumi Textiles on days off. If it's raining, he is unavailable. Ryotaro Dojima (Hierophant) Dojima's Social Link automatically begins on May 6. You can talk to him at home during nighttime. However, you will need to finish the dungeon first so that he can actually get home from work on time. If Dojima is home when you are gardening, you can get bonus points. Also, on days that Nanako's Social Link is available, you will not be able to hang out with Dojima. Certain ranks (1-2, 3-4, 4-5) are locked unless you meet the requisite Level of Expression. Rise Kujikawa (Lovers) Rise's Social Link automatically begins on July 23. She is available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. You can find her in Classroom Building 1F on weekdays, and the South Shopping District near Marukyu on days off. You cannot hang out with her if it is raining. Chie Satonaka (Chariot) Chie's Social Link automatically begins on April 18. You can find her on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. On weekdays, she is on the roof of Yasogami High, and on days off, she is in front of Daidara in the Shopping District. She is not available if it's raining. Nanako Dojima (Justice) Like Dojima, you can hang out with Nanako at nighttime in the Dojima house. However, if Dojima's Social Link is available, Nanako's isn't. Nanako's Social Link automatically starts on May 3. Like Dojima, she does not have set days that she's free, even though she's literally home all the time. But she is available more often if you do not have an active dungeon you are exploring at the moment. Incidentally, Ranks 3-4 and 5-6 are inaccessible unless you have the requisite Level of Expression. If you are trying to max out Social Links, your time limit for Nanako is October 31. So I recommend using gardening to get points to reduce how many times you have to hang out with her. Fox (Hermit) The Fox's Social Link automatically begins on May 5, and it is available every afternoon. Like Margaret, the Fox's Social Link is unique in that you need to complete quests to advance it. When you visit the Shrine, you can get an ema request. This does not eat up a time slot. However, once you finish the quest and report it, you will hang out with the Fox for the rest of the afternoon. Quests usually require several days to complete so it is best to start them early. Naoto Shirogane (Fortune) Like Kanji, you need to manually start Naoto's Social Link. On October 21, talk to Naoto and then go to the Shopping District to talk to a man near Aiya. You will need Level 5 Knowledge to answer him and Level 5 Courage after you report back to Naoto. If you meet these requirements, then you can start Naoto's Social Link. You can hang out with Naoto on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. On weekdays, you can find Naoto in Classroom Building 1F and at Samegawa Flood Plains on days off.
Kou Ichijo/Daisuke Nagase (Strength) From April 19, you can join either the soccer club or the basketball club, which then starts the Strength Social Link. No matter which team you choose, you hang out with both of them. You can hang out with Kou and Daisuke on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. On occasion, they are available on Wednesdays. You can find them in Classroom Building 2F. As a reminder, the sports club does not meet if it is raining. Naoki Konishi (Hanged Man) On June 8, you meet Naoki, but that does not start his Social Link. To actually begin it, you have to talk to him two more times, as well as have Level 3 Understanding. You can find him in Classroom Building 1F. However, his location changes once you unlock his Social Link. You can find him in front of the liquor store on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. He is not there on rainy days. Hisano Kuroda (Death) In order to start the Death Social Link, you first need to reach Rank 4 of the Devil Social Link. Hisano has very limited availability, as you can only find her at the Riverbank on Sundays or the holidays. But perhaps because of this, you pretty much increase the Social Link Rank every time you hang out with her. For 6-7, you need to find her Husband's Letter at Daidara's, but after that, it's smooth sailing. Keep in mind that you cannot interact with Hisano on rainy days. Eri Minami (Temperance) To start the Temperance Social Link, you need to work as an Assistant Daycare Worker, which becomes available from April 23. The Social Link formally starts on your second shift. You can work at the daycare on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays so long as it is not raining. To go to the daycare, you simply need to take the bus from the Shopping District. Sayoko Uehara (Devil) To start the Devil Social Link, you need to work as a Hospital Janitor, which becomes available from May 25. You unlock the Social Link on your second shift. You can work at the hospital on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. To go to the hospital, you simply need to take the bus from the Shopping District. As opposed to the daycare job, you can work at the hospital even if it is rainy. Shu Nakajima (Tower) To start the Tower Social Link, you need to work as a Tutor, which becomes available from May 25. The caveat is that you need Level 5 Understanding to apply. Once you get the job, though, you can go see Shu on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Weather does not limit his availability. To go to Shu's house, you can take the bus in the Shopping District. Ai Ebihara (Moon) Once you reach Rank 4 of the Strength Social Link, you meet Ai. When Ai asks you to skip class with her, accept her invitation. You need to have Level 3 Courage to commit truancy. The Social Link begins once your perfect attendance record ends. To hang out with Ai, you can find her in Classroom Building 1F on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. She is not available on rainy days. Ai's Social Link is very unique, and not even in the same way as Margaret's or the Fox's. Depending on your dialog options, you can actually reverse the Social Link, meaning that you'll have to waste time to get back on track. You can also straight up break the Social Link at Rank 8, which locks you out of maxing it out for that playthrough. Yumi Ozawa/Ayane Matsunaga (Sun) Like with the Strength Arcana, you have the option to choose which club you want to join for the Sun Social Link. If you join drama, then you meet Yumi, and if you join band, you meet Ayane. You only hang out with the girl you choose, since they are not friends. The Sun Social Link can start from April 25 after you join a club, and you can attend meetings on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. You can participate in the cultural club even on rainy days. To hang out with them, you can either go straight to the club room or find Ayane/Yumi in Classroom Building 2F. Adachi (Jester) Here are the dates you can hang out with Adachi:
Marie (Aeon) Marie is the other new Social Link in the Golden version of Persona 4. Completing her Social Link unlocks an endgame dungeon, so if you want to fully experience the expanded edition of P4, you should prioritize Marie's Social Link. The Aeon Social Link can start from April 18, and you can find her at the Velvet Room in the Shopping District. Marie is available to hang out with on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. As a side note, because the other party members show up in Marie's Social Link, you may not be able to advance her story if a required character is stuck in the TV world. Once you rescue them and they officially join your party, you can continue the Aeon Social Link. Because of the limited days you have in Persona 4 Golden, there are a few tricks that you can do to minimize how many times you need to hang out with someone in order to max out their Social Link. Always make sure you bring a Persona of their Arcana when you visit them, and use the Shrine at night to boost your relationship values. The Shrine in particular is useful at the higher Ranks. As you wander around The Somniel in Fire Emblem Engage, you might get a chance to pick up Horse Manure, a Pretty Pebble, or a Spirit Gem. All three items fall into the "gift" category and appear at the shiny spots around the hub. Meaning when you talk to someone when they're hanging around, you can give it to them to boost their relationship points with Alear. You can't sell any of them, as they don't show up in the Convoy section when you go to a shop. So, should you be giving these items as a gift? Honestly, yes. Horse Manure is the gag gift in Fire Emblem Engage. It won't build up a bond really. However, when you give it to someone standing around on the Somniel, you'll get to see a joke response to the gift. The only person I've found who response somewhat positively to it is Framme. The Pretty Pebble is the next item you can give as a Fire Emblem Engage gift early on. It is fairly common and everyone "likes" it. They don't love it, mind you. But nobody will respond negatively to it and it is an easy way to build up a Support rank between characters without fighting.
Finally, the Spirit Gem is the ultimate gift to give characters in Fire Emblem Engage. Everybody loves this item. It builds up a relationship greatly after being given. However, it is the rarest of all three items that you will find at glowing spots on the Somniel. So it's a good idea to have a stockpile to use until you unlock the Flea Market following Timerra joining the army and can buy more targeted presents for people. However, once you unlock the Tower of Trials and online maps, you can earn Spirit Gems as rewards from battles like the Outrealm Trials. In short, ignore the Fire Emblem Engage Horse Manure if you are trying to make actual progress, and focus on giving someone a Pretty Pebble or Spirit Gem if you're hoping to build up a bond and don't have more precise gifts that suit them. Cygames used the Granblue Fantasy festival event to announce a big news item, a new fighting game called Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. It will be a separate game from Granblue Fantasy Versus, which will receive its final update on January 24, 2023. Rising will launch sometime in 2023 on the PS4, PS5, and PC. Rising is not quite a "full sequel" to the original Granblue Fantasy Versus. Rising will include the current 24-character roster of the original Versus at launch. It will also be able to import Versus save data, meaning players who own the game won't lose their progress switching over. Unlike the original Versus, though, Rising will have rollback netcode implemented by design, as well as support cross-platform play across PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam. According to comments by Creative Director Tetsuya Fukuhara, Cygames and Arc System Works' goals improve Granblue Versus effectively meant that they had to practically rebuild the game. This is why Rising is being treated (and sold) as a separate product. However, Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising will also have new content. These include more playable characters, as well as several new mechanics. One the announced mechanics is "Ultimate Skills", which are upgraded versions of Plus Skills. The graphics of the game have also been improved, with the goal of the overhaul being to get closer to the signature Granblue Fantasy art style. The story-based "RPG Mode" will have a new narrative to follow, as well as an abridged version of the original Versus RPG mode, to allow players to catch up with the story. The improvements also include an updated lobby system. The new lobby will be larger and have more activities. One activity in the Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising lobby is Grand Bruise Legends, a minigame-based mode that uses players and their lobby avatars. As promised, Granblue Fantasy Festival event 2023 brought with it a playable demo of Granblue Fantasy Relink, the long-in-development action-RPG adaptation of Granblue Fantasy proper and its characters. Along with the demo came a new extended trailer from developer Cygames. The trailer, which is the first brand-new footage to appear of Relink in almost a year, showed off more of the game's story, gameplay, environments, and confirmed new playable characters. However, the trailer did not specify a release date for the game beyond its current "2023" window. During the stage presentation creative director Tetsuya Fukuhara apologized for not being able to narrow it down further. Check out the Granblue Fantasy Relink trailer below. There they'll find new threats, particularly from the Church of Avia, which claims to be heading for "Utopia". That might be another name for the Island of Stars, Estalucia, the ultimate goal of the crew's journey. The trailer introduces a new character in the form of Id, a powerful swordsman and one of the strongest warriors in Zegagrande. It also showed off gameplay from Gran and his allies. Previously confirmed playable characters like the members of the Dragon Knights (Lancelot, Vane, Percival, and Sigfried) were shown once again. However, gameplay was also shown from Lumiel Knight Charlotta, Harvin fisherman Yodarha, and Draph blademaster Narmaya. The playable characters will all have styles inspired by their Granblue Fantasy skills and move sets. Players who prefer to focus on the Granblue Fantasy Relink story will also be able to use two "Assist" modes. Standard Assist will automate blocking and evading, while simplifying combo inputs. Full Assist will automate combat almost entirely, with the player only needing to handle movement. Granblue Fantasy Relink is in development, and is targeted for release within 2023 on PC, PS4, and PS5. When it comes to playing Monster Hunter, the clothes make the Hunter. Rather than gaining levels or experience points, a Monster Hunter player may measure their progression both by their mastery of the different weapon styles, as well as the creation of new equipment.
