Kotaku Monday, April 24, 2023 1:55 PM Dead Island 2 was always going to be a gory game. The first Dead Island, released in 2011, played like a schlocky, uninhibited horror B-movie, and Dead Island 2 developer Deep Silver made butchery a priority soon after it began working on the sequel in 2019. Blood and brains are also usually a given where zombies are… |

Kotaku Monday, April 24, 2023 9:36 AM Pokémon Battle Revolution by developer Genius Sorority was not a great game. Before you can take on Legend Lost Sectors, you need to complete all the normal Lost Sectors first. If you don't, the new Legend Lost Sectors will not appear on the map. Each day, the location, modifiers, and rewards rotate out for something new. While many Exotics can be bought from Xûr or even in the world loot pool, the Destiny 2 Exotics in these special Lost Sector instances cannot, forcing players to explore these dangerous areas if they want the best equipment available. It's important to remember that exotic drops are not guaranteed after completing these quests, so you may have to run through the same Lost Sector multiple times. You can go through the quests in the free PC game with a fireteam, but your rewards will be reduced to Enhancement Cores only. Continue reading What is the Destiny 2 Lost Sector today? PCGamesN Monday, April 24, 2023 11:33 AM Want to know more about that mysterious Minecraft Dripstone cave you've stumbled across? Or perhaps you haven't and you want to know how to find one. The dripstone cave, and it's greener sister the Lush cave, were new underground biomes added with the long-awaited Caves and Cliffs update. The update completely overhauled the sandbox game, adding these unique biomes for the first time, extending the world height (both up and down), and changing the way you mine. Already one of the best PC games of all time, Minecraft players return year after year for the huge content updates that Mojang Studios put out - and let's not forget the Minecraft 1.20 release date is coming soon. Caves and Cliffs might have been one of the most game-changing, making mining and caving considerably more dangerous, but it also made it more jaw-dropping - there's nothing quite like stumbling across an expansive Dripstone cave. In addition to keeping track of your entire party and ensuring they're fighting fit, there's another vital level that you'll want to keep track of. Learning how to increase these equilibrium levels is easy once you know how, but some conditions need fulfilling and tasks to complete before you can gain all the bonuses for levelling it up. But what exactly are Honkai Star Rail equilibrium levels? These act as World Levels do in other RPG games, such as Diablo, in that increasing them gives you better item drops from now more formidable enemies. PCGamesN Monday, April 24, 2023 11:08 AM Looking for a Honkai Star Rail tier list for launch? Judging the best Star Rail characters is tricky. After all, the game's not properly out yet, and balancing will likely differ between recent beta tests and the first public version. In addition, its gacha mechanics make it challenging to circle in on getting the characters you want in your party outside of sheer luck. However, there are already some clear front runners to keep an eye on at launch. The real point of a Honkai Star Rail tier list is to rank your pulls against the consensus from the free PC game's already burgeoning community. Even before the Honkai Star Rail release date, they've already begun speculating who will be the top characters overall, who will excel against bosses, and who's great when farming for materials. Of course, with more banners set to arrive in the future, similar to Genshin Impact, we'll see new Honkai Star Rail characters appear in the tier list. In the future, you'll also be able to redeem Honkai Star Rail codes to get some free pulls, but for now, here are the initial rankings for the launch cast. PCGamesN Monday, April 24, 2023 10:29 AM After the best Warzone 2 TAQ-V loadout? The battle rifle version of the Scar-inspired TAQ-56 is arguably the best iteration in the weapon platform, taking the slow, chugging rate of fire of its smaller sibling and pairing it with devastating 7.62mm rounds. Unlike some battle rifles, the TAQ-V has a full-auto fire mode by default, making it easy to use in all situations, and a wide array of weapon setups are available once you've unlocked all the right attachments. As we saw with the dominance of the FAL in Warzone 1, battle rifles can be the best Warzone 2 guns around, and are extremely effective thanks to their damage ranges and bullet velocity, plus their handiness in a CQC situation. Really, though, one of the best experiences you can have this Steam Puzzle Fest week is by downloading the free demo for upcoming puzzler Viewfinder. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, April 24, 2023 12:10 PM I do love me a good farming sim, and I also love a good detective game, so imagine my brain exploding when I saw Grave Seasons for the first time, a farming murder mystery hybrid in the works by developer Son M and their studio Perfect Garbage. It's still very early in development (like there isn't even a Steam page for it yet), but it's still an incredible-sounding concept, as every time you start a new game, a random NPC will be selected to become a serial killer. You can grow crops, fish, raise cattle, and also help save your fellow townsfolk from a rampaging murderer. Cute! |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, April 24, 2023 12:00 PM As the month of April draws to a close, it can only mean one thing. It's time to announce when we'll be liveblogging this month's RPS Game Club pick, Betrayal At Club Low! Well, it's not the only thing, of course, but listen, our secret pizza delivery agent only has an hour long window to spare us before they'll be whisked away on another top secret infiltration / flamingo thigh stew tasting mission, so make sure you mark your calendars for Friday April 28th at 4pm BST (that's 8am PDT / 11am EDT) to join us for our real-time liveblog chat. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, April 24, 2023 11:45 AM For all its flamingo thigh stews, misshapen clothes model characters and pizza-themed DJ-ing, Betrayal At Club Low is an old-school, dice-throwing RPG through and through. Every interaction you have at Club Low is determined by the rolling of dice, whether it's simply attempting to spark a conversation with a hard-of-hearing bartender, or bluffing your way into VIP backrooms where your blown fellow agent Gemini Jay is currently being grilled by the intimidating Big Mo. Whether you're successful in your endeavours depends on whether you can roll higher or equal to whatever value is thrown by your opponent, with each face corresponding to a particular Skill Dice you're trying to deploy to win that scenario. A lot of the time, your skill numbers aren't nearly good enough to beat your fellow clubber outright, but for me, the thrill of Club Low comes from clinching a very plain, and highly unremarkable draw, earning you the accolade of 'Success. Barely' in the ensuing results breakdown. It may not sound very sexy, but in a world where the odds are fully stacked against you, barely succeeding will do me just fine here, thanks. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, April 24, 2023 9:00 AM As our shuttle hits the ground, the world erupts into smoke, chaos, and confusion. Samantha, one among my ragged band of survivors, breaks down sobbing on the ground and I direct Maki, a veterinarian, to do something about it. She punches Samantha full-on in the face, knocking her unconscious ("Oh, I guess that's what 'knock out' means," I realize a moment too late). Well, at least I don't have to worry about her running off into the woods or something. It's a rough start, but they have no choice but to work together from here on out. For fans of the survival simulation genre, crashlanding on an alien planet is a familiar premise, but it's one Stranded: Alien Dawn absolutely smashes. This game has been at the top of my to-be-played list for a while and now that it's exiting early access for a full release, it's safe to say that Stranded is the closest thing to my dream human vs nature survival game I've seen yet. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, April 24, 2023 8:17 AM Knowing that wombats' dump is little stackable cubes was one of the fun facts I learned at school (it was either a rhetorical proof for or against the existence of God; I forget which). This knowledge comes in handy for understanding the game Hardhat Wombat, coming from George Fan (of Plants Vs. Zombies fame), with Andy Hull (of programmer on Spelunky fame). Out later this year, it's a combination puzzle-platformer and conscruction game in which you play a wombat, wearing a hard hat, who constructs increasingly complex things out of his own feces. That is no way to make a skyscraper, wombat. |

Siliconera Monday, April 24, 2023 1:30 PM Nintendo released new information about Panacea, Shulk's apprentice and one of the new characters that will appear in the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future Redeemed DLC expansion. Panacea is a strong willed and honest individual, and she has a distaste for deceitfulness. Panacea admires Shulk as her teacher. https://twitter.com/XenobladeJP/status/1650400987549683712 In one of the videos shared, Panacea faces Glimmer in battle and corners her with her combat prowess, just as Shulk appears. She shows mercy to her enemy, while letting her know that a false move will result in her demise. She fights using a spear. https://twitter.com/XenobladeJP/status/1650401406619361285 In the main story of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the founder of House Reid was Shulk's apprentice. This could point to Panacea being one of the founders of the new City. Additionally, fans online have started to point out that Panacea's appearance is very similar to siblings Sharla and Juju, from the first Xenoblade Chronicles game. Panacea is voiced by Akeno Watanabe in the Japanese dub of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future Redeemed DLC. She has previously voiced Rose in Street Fighter V, Liz Thompson in Soul Eater, and Sharla in the first Xenoblade Chronicles. This last role could prove as another hint indicating a relationship with Sharla, but we won't know for sure until the release of the expansion. The Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future Redeemed DLC releases on April 25, 2023. The main game is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo also released a relationship chart for some of the central characters that will appear in the expansion. The post Panacea Is Shulk's Apprentice in the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC appeared first on Siliconera. |

Siliconera Monday, April 24, 2023 11:30 AM People will need to wait a bit longer to try the Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising online beta, as it is delayed. The official Twitter account shared a message from Creative Director Tetsuya Fukuhara noting it won't appear in May 2023. It also confirmed there will be a closed pre-access beta ahead of the open beta, as a result. The announcement blamed the Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising online beta delay on multiplayer issues. Fukuhara's announcement said it was unstable at the moment, and the team needed to focus on that before any test could occur. He followed that by noting the rollback netcode and status would be checked in a "closed pre-access beta," which people can register for in the future. Once that beta is finished and the team works on the game based on that, there will be the open beta. Here's the full statement. Had the online beta gone as planned, players on the PS4 and PS5 would have been able to participate.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising will come to the PS4, PS5, and PC in 2023, and there are no dates for the closed pre-access beta or online beta. The post Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising Online Beta Delayed appeared first on Siliconera. |

Siliconera Monday, April 24, 2023 10:30 AM Lasengle will collaborate with H.B.M. Gallery/H.B.M. Relux and Samurai Japan on Fate/Grail League merchandise. As a reminder, Fate/Grail League was the April Fools' baseball game that Lasengle released for Fate/Grand Order. Fans will be able to buy acrylic stands, can badges, and T-shirts of their favorite players. [Thanks, Famitsu!] For reference, Samurai Japan is the national baseball team for Japan. Meanwhile, H.B.M. Gallery/H.B.M. Relux is a streetwear brand that has collaborated with many comics, anime, and video games in the past. It has also worked with Samurai Japan before. Shirts that the two companies released included collaboration ones with Tokyo Revengers. There's not many details as of yet in regards to the Fate/Grail League merchandise. However, it's likely that the acrylic stands and can badges will utilize the various sprites that were in the game. During the events, many artists (who had previously designed Servants for Fate/Grand Order) drew chibified versions of everyone in their baseball uniforms. Fate/Grail League was a baseball game that featured over 370 Servants from the actual Fate/Grand Order mobage. All of the characters had their own strengths and special abilities when either pitching, batting, or defending. Akira Sekine (who voices Ritsuka Fujimaru in Fate/Grand Carnival) was the game's announcer, with special lines for every Servant. Fate/Grand Order is readily available on mobile devices. More information on the Fate/Grail League merchandise from H.B.M. Gallery/H.B.M. Relux and Samurai Japan will come out in the near future. Siliconera Monday, April 24, 2023 10:00 AM HoYoVerse announced yet another launch promotion for its next game. There will be a Honkai: Star Rail TikTok Challenge. It didn't note how it will work. However, it did confirm it will begin the day the game launches on April 26, 2023. The image for the event does show the three kinds of rewards people can earn. Credits are to Honkai: Star Rail what Mora is to Genshin Impact. You can get these via all sorts of in-game actions and spend them on items in-game from NPCs or to improve characters and equipment. Another is the Stellar Jade. People can use those to participate in the gacha, and these are essentially the Honkai: Star Rail equivalent of Genshin Impact's Primogems. Finally, there's the Traveler's Guide. You can use this to grant a character experience and increase their level.
The Honkai: Star Rail TikTok account is live and active. Lately, it's been posting countdown to launch videos showcasing characters. The April 24, 2023 video stars Dan Heng. Honkai: Star Rail will come to the PC and mobile devices on April 26, 2023. People can download and pre-install it immediately. It will show up on the PS4 and PS5 in the future. The Honkai: Star Rail TikTok Challenge will run April 26, 2023 through May 20, 2023. The post Honkai: Star Rail TikTok Challenge Announced appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Monday, April 24, 2023 10:00 AM Square Enix's HD-2D games get quite the critical acclaim. For good reason, when you think about it. They masterfully blend the intricate spritework from the 16-bit classics, while also showing cinematic range and depth in more modern titles. This meant when Live a Live came to the Switch in 2022, it felt fresh, and even in 2023 it remains refreshing on the PS4, PS5, and PC. However, while this is a gorgeous take on the title, some of the things that make it so special always appeared in the game. The idea of multiple narratives in a single game isn't unusual. Square Enix and other developers have done so for years. The Octopath Traveler series employs it, as do both Mana and SaGa. But with Live a Live, the execution was so unusual. We (initially) get these seven stories of people dealing with antagonists and dealing with evil. Each protagonist is different. There are different mechanics in each one, with Oboromaru employing stealth as one example and Akira reading minds as another. Which works to its advantage, as each person gets to stand on their own. Their story's execution and nature differs, and the lack of repetition makes each chapter more attractive. [caption id="attachment_960487" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Screenshot via Siliconera[/caption] It's Live a Live's greatest strength, really. Some stories really don't focus on combat, instead being more thoughtful and about dealing with threats in different ways. Twilight of Edo Japan and The Distant Future both encourage other approaches, like stealth and getting around a ship. Prehistory leans into its time period by telling its entire story without any words. It shows how evocative actions can be. Present Day is, well, very straightforward! It leans into the showing off the battle system by pitting players against six fellow fighters to get stronger. Speaking of Live a Live's battle system, it wasn't just unique for the time when it launched, but still feels different almost 30 years later. It's strategic, given that you need to be concerned with the positions of allies and enemies, but also feels fast-paced and forgiving enough that someone who isn't as interested in tactics can still find their way through. You can see how other Square games at the time influenced it, but it remains unique. [caption id="attachment_960486" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Screenshot via Square Enix[/caption] This means the HD-2D elements and newly arranged orchestral soundtrack serve to make what's always been an incredible RPG more attractive. The original Super Famicom portrayal was fine and would likely still be appreciated for the personality and intricacies at the time. However, the HD-2D perspective goes further with characterizations to enhance it all. It attracts an audience who perhaps didn't know about the game years ago, but is drawn to this new artistic direction. Likewise, the music builds on what was already there and great, then takes it a step further. Especially with the extra love given to "Go! Go! Buriki Daioh!" for Near Future, a chapter that already felt like a take on a Shonen Jump series. This PS4, PS5, and PC release of Live a Live following its brief Switch exclusivity is a best-case scenario for not only the game, but audiences on all four platforms. This isn't a title that deserved to be trapped in Japan. It isn't something that should be limited to certain systems. It's genuinely special, and more people should look to it as an example of how to combine different plot threads and ideas to tell stories. Live a Live is available on the Switch, and it will come to the PS4, PS5, and PC on April 27, 2023. The post Live a Live's Best Elements Remained Intact Since 1994 appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Monday, April 24, 2023 9:30 AM One Piece Day 2023 will be an in-person and livestream event at the Tokyo Big Sight. It'll run on July 21-22, 2023, with more information on admission prices coming out in the near future. The site only opened on April 23, 2023, so there is very little information on what else we can expect this year during the One Piece event. In 2022, One Piece Day was at the Nippon Budokan. On the first day, many members of the cast were present for the world premiere of One Piece Film: Red. The next day, there were musical performances, a revival reviewing of One Piece - Take Down! The Pirate Ganzak!, trivia battles, and more. There was also a livestream where people could watch the unveiling of the Jinbe Statue in Kumamoto. The cast will likely be present during at least one of the days. There are instructions on how to get to Tokyo Big Sight by train, bus, or car on the official website, which is also available in English. But for those who aren't or won't physically be in Japan, the staff will broadcast it onto YouTube. One Piece Day 2023 will take place on July 21-22, 2023. More information on what will happen, as well as ticket prices, will come out in the near future. The post One Piece Day 2023 Site Opens appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Monday, April 24, 2023 9:00 AM The next Tera Raid event in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will feature the strongest Inteleon. There will be two runs of this seven-star Inteleon Raid. The first one will go from April 28, 2023-May 1, 2023. After that, it'll be available from May 5-8, 2023. As a reminder, Inteleon is not normally available in Scarlet and Violet. So if you want Inteleon and any of the other Pokemon in its line, you will have to obtain it either through the Tera Raid or trade with someone. The Inteleon that you will get during this 7-star Tera Raid will have an Ice Tera Type, and it will come with a Mightiest Mark. Inteleon is final evolution of Sobble, which was the Water starter Pokemon from Sword and Shield. It excels in Speed and Special Attack, and its signature move is Snipe Shot. Snipe Shot has a high critical hit ratio and will always hit its target (in the sense that you cannot divert it with something like Follow Me). Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is readily available on the Nintendo Switch. The Inteleon Tera Raid event will be available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet from April 28, 2023-May 1, 2023, and May 5-8, 2023. As of the time of writing, the Blissey and Typhlosion Raid Battles are still open in the game. The post Next Pokemon Scarlet, Violet Tera Raid Will Be Inteleon appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Monday, April 24, 2023 8:30 AM A statue of Link as he appears in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will appear in Japan for people to take pictures alongside temporarily. There will be a staggered schedule, and the photo op spot will only be in each city for a short period of time. It will first become available from April 29, 2023. The statue of Link that will be at the photo ops is one that Nintendo previously used in Nintendo Live events. It shows Link holding his hand out while his cape billows behind him. The schedule for the photo op with this status is as follows:
It is free to take pictures either with or of Link at the various The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom booths. Technically speaking, however, those who want to go to the Chiba location will first need to purchase a ticket for the Niconico Super Meeting 2023 event. But otherwise, you do not need to pay a fee in order to pose with Link. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will come out on May 12, 2023. The themed OLED Switch model for it will launch on April 28, 2023. The post Take Pictures with Link from Tears of the Kingdom in Japan appeared first on Siliconera. |
Siliconera Monday, April 24, 2023 8:00 AM In Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly, you are the sole barista of Coffee Talk, which is a coffee shop in rainy Seattle. While a large portion of the game has you simply reading the conversations between yourself and the customers that visit your cafe, your brewing techniques will play a part in whether or not you can succeed in helping people find happiness in their lives. No, this is not an exaggeration. Special drinks in the game will help you fill out your brewpad, but just what are the special drinks in Coffee Talk 2? First of all, special drinks are very literally that—drinks that have a special and unique design. If your drink is something like "Mint Cinnamon Tea" and it looks like a plain ol' drink, then it will not appear in your brewpad. Aside from unlocking them as you progress the story, you can also experiment in the Free Brew and Challenge modes. As an aside, there are two teas that require you to get far enough in the story. You will not be able to unlock the "Five Stars!" or Berry-Blue Hibiscus "Pie" drinks in Free Brew. If you try to create it in that mode without first unlocking the recipe in the story, then the drink will not appear as a special one. Remember that the order you input the ingredients in matters! This is because whether an ingredient is the primary or secondary one will affect the flavor profile of a drink. Here are all of the special drinks, in the brewpad's order, that you can unlock in Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly: Coffee[caption id="attachment_960451" align="alignnone" width="768"] Image via Toge Productions[/caption]

Chocolate[caption id="attachment_960454" align="alignnone" width="768"] Image via Toge Productions[/caption]
