For a game we've all been calling "Pokémon with guns," turns out there aren't all that many guns in the first few hours of Palworld. But you know what there is far too much of? Crafting mechanics in video games. Anyway, here are our takes on this week's news.

New Game Pass and Steam roguelike nails what the genre needs most

Go Mecha Ball could easily get lost in the sea of excellent Game Pass releases this month and beyond, but it really shouldn't. I've been playing the fast-paced twin-stick roguelike on and off and can safely say that if you're a fan of the genre, and especially entries like Hades and Enter the Gungeon, you don't want to miss this one.

New Minecraft block lets you be

Minecraft players can be jerks sometimes, and, according to one of the developers of the Mojang sandbox game, that's by design. That said, the team does discourage the behavior with certain mechanics, and it looks like this will be applied to the new Vault block in 1.21 later this year.

The Diablo 4 1.3.1 patch lands next week, but a big update is out now

A big Diablo 4 1.3.1 patch is planned to arrive next week, but Blizzard is already making big updates today with the launch of Diablo 4 patch notes 1.3.0a, which themselves make a first round of updates addressing some of the biggest problems in Season 3. The new Season of the Construct has already left many, myself included, underwhelmed by its ineffective Seneschal companion and the long grind of attempting to upgrade it, but a first round of improvements are now here.

Suicide Squad's ugliest feature is being fixed before launch

Don't worry, that incredibly overwhelming Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League HUD is going to come with a plethora of options at launch and beyond. Developer Rocksteady appears to have heard the concerns amplified by the game's preview sessions, so your screen should look less like a battle pass vomited Skittles all over it with a few tweaks.

January 27, 2024: We've added new entries to our list of free dice links.

You can't get far in Monopoly Go without dice rolls, which you'll have a limited amount of to begin with. To earn more dice rolls, you'll need to log in daily to collect bonuses, invite your friends to the game, or progress further. If you don't want to spend your hard-earned money on more dice, you can use dice links for the board game instead. Now, let's run down all the currently active Monopoly Go free dice links for today.

Diablo 4 Battle Pass

I thoroughly enjoyed what I played of Diablo 4 during its review period, and I even created a Hardcore character on release to join friends in a self-imposed challenge run to beat the game without dying. But once the first Season of Diablo 4 hit, I had exhausted myself with what I felt was a fairly lackluster end game.

So when I dipped my toes into Season of the Malignant I did just enough to grind out the first series of cosmetic unlocks in the Battle Pass and shelved the game. It wasn't until after a positive experience at BlizzCon that I ended up leaping back into Diablo 4 to give Season 2 - Season of Blood a shot. I'm a sucker for vampires and anything vampire-related, so I just had to give it a chance!

Hell, I even dressed like a vampire for an entire year. But the gameplay loop in Diablo 4 wasn't enough to keep me invested long enough to complete the entire Battle Pass for that Season—something I now deeply regret going into Diablo 4 Season 3 Season of the Construct. For the first time FOMO has hit me, and it isn't even something related to the slow rotation of cosmetic items that are extremely pricy for a $70 game.

It's for Battle Pass items that I'm not sure I'll ever be able to obtain again. I'm not saying that Season of the Construct is bad. It's really just alright. But now that I'm actually playing the game again, the urge to make my Sorcerer look good is overwhelming. My partner gave me a set of Lilith-inspired cosmetics for my character to help with the feeling, but my mind keeps shifting back to the Season 2 Battle Pass.

To clarify I did not pay for the previous Season Passes, they were provided to me by Blizzard, so I don't have the feeling of having lost money which would be really frustrating if so, but FOMO still got me. So much of what was available genuinely appealed to me. Still, I could not convince myself to continue grinding away for its rewards due to Diablo 4's slow gameplay (especially in comparison to Diablo III, which I've really been enjoying!) and the Paragon Board system. I'm not saying either is bad; I just think that Diablo 4 is in a state where it's still growing into itself, much like its predecessor did.

Diablo III was kind of a mess at launch. It had the real money market board (I actually had a friend whose mom used this feature to make some extra spending cash for herself), and class balancing was all over the place with the Monk mostly reigning supreme. And much like Diablo 4, the end-game loop wasn't exactly all that satisfying. And I feel like Diablo 4 is in a similar place, albeit for different circumstances.

I just wish the game was more fun to play so getting those Battle Pass rewards wouldn't feel like as much of a slog, even if the one in Diablo 4 is functionally the same as the one in Diablo III, just a lot grindier and costs money because I don't enjoy feeling FOMO over items I miss. Especially when in retrospect, they are items I missed because of a mostly uninteresting gameplay loop. Would I go back and grind out the Season 2 Battle Pass if I knew I would be playing Diablo 4 again? Probably. But hindsight is 20/20.

Diablo 4 is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The Vessel of Hatred DLC expansion will arrive in late 2024.

Good Passive Skills In PalworldPassive Skills in Palworld allow your Pals to be diverse as well as more powerful. Boosts to movement speed or damage are always attractive; whether you can keep stacking the ones you want for the best effect is a different story, however. Can Passive Skills be stacked twice on the same Pal in Palworld? Unfortunately, each Pal can only have one copy of a Passive Skill in Palworld. This means that you can't have a Pal with four copies of Swift to massively increase its Movement Speed. Even though we can't keep copying the Passive Skill we want to improve the stats we want, there are other ways to achieve this method. Thankfully, in Palworld, there are numerous Passive Skills that will increase the same stat to varying degrees. So although we can't copy Swift four times, we can still get four Movement Speed increasing Passive Skills. Image: soup_pixels For example, to maximise speed through Passive Skills, the four you'll w...

Pal Slacking Off In PalworldIn Palworld, Pals assigned to the base will work on tasks and help you produce all of the items you need. If they're slacking off or upset, however, then they won't work at all, even if you try to force them. We can't have that, now, can we? What does it mean when a Pal is slacking off or upset in Palworld? In Palworld, captured Pals assigned to a base will happily go around and start performing tasks that they're able to do. With food and a bed, these Pals will be happy for a while doing all the jobs you can't be bothered for. However, you will soon come across Pals that are slacking off and moping around base. Or worse – Pals that are upset and have sent themselves to bed. When this happens, they'll stop working, even if you try to force assign them to a task. Pals who are slacking off or upset will show it on their faces. Screenshot: PC Invasion Pals that are suffering from this will soon develop muc...

Flame Organs In PalworldIn Palworld, Flame Organs are needed rather extensively if you want to build a Fire Weapon arsenal in the early game. Flame Organs are pretty annoying to get, especially if you want a lot. However, there are a couple things you can do to get a lot of them. Ranching Flambelle for Flame Organs in Palworld The best way to farm for Flame Organs in Palworld is by literally farming them. Flambelle is an adorable Pal that will produce Flame Organs quickly when assigned to a Ranch. You will soon find dozens of Flame Organs in the closest chest, and if you have more than one Flambelle, you'll have hundreds waiting for you. Flambelle is a little tricky to get for beginner players, although not impossible. If you're lucky, you may hatch one from an Egg that you've found around. Otherwise, you'll need to catch one yourself. They spawn in hot regions, as shown below. Screenshot: PC Invasion Related: How to get flying mounts in Palworl...
