Kotaku Thursday, August 15, 2024 5:00 PM I have largely moved away from buying collector's editions over the past decade, and so I was probably not going to buy Dragon Age: The Veilguard's pseudo-special edition, called "Rook's Coffer," to begin with. Kotaku Thursday, August 15, 2024 3:15 PM Legendary Pictures has announced not one, not four, but three new video games based on the Godzilla vs. Kong franchise, aka the Monsterverse. No, not the mediocre reboot that came out a couple of years ago, I'm talking about the original from 2009. Its multiplayer is particularly etched into the memories of millions of CoD fans, and an ambitious new mod was about to revive it. PCGamesN Thursday, August 15, 2024 1:01 PM The best roguelikes understand the importance of player choice. You're presented with random pools of weapons, upgrades, and items that you need to weigh into your strategy, synergizing what you can in the hope of powerful results. Auto battlers follow a very similar formula, having you combine an array of units before throwing them into the fight, operating on the hope that they'll wind up more than the sum of their parts. Slay the Spire and Teamfight Tactics are the best examples of these genres and the new Tales and Tactics sits firmly between them. PCGamesN Thursday, August 15, 2024 3:32 PM I'll be honest: initially, I was pretty sceptical about New World: Aeternum. While I plowed hours into the base MMORPG when it released back in 2021, it never quite sunk its claws into me in the same way that World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy 14 did. While I loved the juxtaposition of the 17th-century setting and the colorful Fable-esque magic, the grind just got a little too much for me and I fell off pretty quickly. PCGamesN Thursday, August 15, 2024 10:50 AM Who are the Delta Force Hawk Ops operators? An announcement for a PC version of Usagi Shiima, a game about collecting bunnies in the same vein as Neko Atsume, appeared as the Wholesome Games Steam sale and celebration kicked off. The product page is already live and confirms it will be compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and SteamOS, but there's no release window for it yet.
The gameplay in Usagi Shiima is rather simple, as this is an idle game involving luring bunnies to an island. You place decorations and buildings on the island. This will draw rabbits to visit. When they are there, you can brush them, feed them, take photos of them, and play hide and seek with them for currency. You can then reinvest that back into new decorations and buildings. Depending on what you place, more bunnies will appear. You can also eventually buy hats for the rabbits to wear.
As time has gone on, updates added more to the base game. For example in June 2024, more accessories, buildings, and items appeared. So did a new minigame involving running on a beach and leaping over bunnies.
On mobile devices, Usagi Shiima is a free game, and the PC version on Steam doesn't mention any price. It does note that both Steam Achievements and Cloud features will be supported.
Usagi Shiima is available for Android and Apple iOS devices, and a PC version will appear on Steam in the future.

Between its slow pacing, irritating characters, and sheer number of mobile suits, it is one of the weaker Gundam entries that doesn't even have the ridiculous campiness of Code Geass to make it entertaining.
Before we start, I'd like to acknowledge that Destiny in particular had a very troubled production. Chiaki Morosawa, the head writer and creator of the Cosmic Era, became very sick in 2002 after the production for Gundam Seed. Due to treatment often taking her away from her duties and leading to delays, a lot of Sunrise staff members had to fill in for her, thus explaining the large number of flashback and compilation episodes in Destiny. Morosawa was the wife of Mitsuo Fukuda, the director for Seed and Destiny. I wouldn't be surprised if Fukuda was also absent from the studio or if he was not able to work at his best performance considering his wife's illness.
It is admirable how the core staff managed to even get over fifty episodes of the show out considering the circumstances. But while I can acknowledge and sympathize with the difficulties behind the scenes, most of my core issues have nothing to do with flashbacks. Even if Sunrise had a smooth time with Destiny, I doubt that it would have been any better when Seed was already like that.
There is always a positive in a situation, and despite my general dislike of the Cosmic Era, I have things I like about it! The music is great, the cast all gave amazing performances, and Athrun is so funny. I bring up Athrun apropos of nothing in conversations about Gundam because he's one of my favorite butt monkeys in the franchise. He's kind of ridiculous between his indecisive nature and meme-able lines, as well as his tendency to self-destruct his expensive and advanced mobile suits. Shinn Asuka is my best boy in the Cosmic Era though, and I love the Super Robot Wars series for redeeming him. My stanning of Shinn Asuka is a hint as to why Destiny in particular riles me up way more than Seed does.
The thing about Seed and Destiny is that both shows are very melodramatic. Most Gundam shows can be serious bummers considering they focus on the horrors of war, but Seed and Destiny in particular seem to dial it up to eleven. That's saying a lot considering they came after Wing, which was also ridiculously dramatic in its own right. The drama of Wing comes from the situations that the characters are in though, whereas so much drama in Seed and Destiny revolved around relationships. The Kira-Flay-Lacus love triangle (?) situation took up so much time, as did the Athrun-Cagalli enemies-to-lovers dynamic. I'm neutral on the ship, but Athrun and Cagalli at least had that very interesting background.
Kira and Lacus are so boring. I really don't care about what happens there, except apparently the Freedom movie is all about that. They don't have any real wants or fears or motivations for anything. Once Kira and Lacus became a set, they were like a pair of anglerfish who'd fused together during mating. What makes Kira a lame protagonist and a pretty cool antagonist (but NOTa final one!) is that the world seems to bend around him. He's always right and he'll let you know it with his laser beams of death. Why does he do the things that he does? Oh, for peace, he says. How does that translate into peace? Shut up, Kira's got gaudy Gundams to dismember.
My biggest beef is with Destiny. Between his past, grudge against the Freedom, and personality, I found Shinn to be a far more interesting protagonist than Kira was. Athrun being a terrible superior to him was kind of the icing on the cake. Seed's popularity and influence meant Sunrise could've never portrayed Kira and Athrun in a really bad light, even if they wanted to. But I loved how Shinn's perspective highlighted a lot of their hypocrisy and self-contradictions. It helped make them more dynamic by extension, since these flaws make them feel more rounded as characters.
And then Shinn started appearing less and less after Athrun defected from ZAFT. Once Kira fully returned to the spotlight, it was all over. I still remember the shock of seeing Shinn's name third in the credits as opposed to when he was always top billing. Kira and Athrun had overtaken him. Even the Freedom movie—the Kira and Lacus movie—is coming out on Shinn's birthday. He just cannot win.
As a kid, I heard rumors that people hated Shinn so much in Japan at the time of Destiny's airing, they'd straight up boo Kenichi Suzumura on the streets. That sounds a bit too ridiculous to be true and I sure hope it isn't. But honestly, Shinn's not that bad. I don't get why people think he's annoying. Sure, he could be prickly, but his idealistic attempts to do good, even if that meant going against orders, made him so much more endearing than Kira and Athrun ever were. Sometimes it felt like people only disliked him because he was antagonistic towards those two and honestly, who wouldn't be? Athrun was a terrible boss to him.
If Kira was just kind of boring in Seed, he was full on annoying in Destiny. Let's skip past Seed for a second to take about Gundam 00. I bring up Gundam 00 because soon after Celestial Being appeared on the scene, we see civilians and military personnel react with derision and disbelief at Celestial Being's methods. Peace through violence, and by inserting yourself into fights that don't concern you? Ridiculous. But that's exactly what Kira kept doing for the first half of Destiny.
Kira blowing up the Destroy Gundam even though Shinn talked Stellar down is understandable. It's not like he knew that Shinn succeeded and in Destroy's case, Stellar had been rampaging through Berlin and was a real, genuine threat to thousands of people. But in all the incidents prior to the Destroy, Kira's attempts at stopping people from fighting consisted of indiscriminately destroying machines. Like Athrun said, Heine died as a direct result of Kira's interference, even if Stellar had been the one to actually kill him. He could barely verbalize his motivations when Athrun was yelling at him, making Kira come across less a force of justice and more like an irrational tyrant.
Some franchises are popular because they happened to be at the right time in the right place. Genshin Impact breaking into the normie market is due to it coming out right during COVID-19 quarantine, for example. Perhaps the way that Gundam fans seem to place Seed and Destiny on a pedestal is due to them having fond memories of watching the show. Nothing beats nostalgia, after all. In any case, I'm very excited for Freedom to be on streaming platforms. I have a bottle of soju in my fridge with that movie's name on it.
Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny are available to watch via services like Crunchyroll. The Gundam Seed Freedom movie will appear on Netflix from September 1, 2024.

Atlus announced that two the Persona 3 Reload Episode Aigis: The Answer DLC songs will be available ahead of the add-on's launch. Both "Don't," which is entirely new, and "Heartful Cry" will appear on Apple Music and Spotify on August 17, 2024.
"Heartful Cry" is a pivotal song from Persona 3 FES that's been recreated for Persona 3 Reload. It's also appeared in other games since. As a reminder, here's how the original PS2 track sounded. The Atlus Sound Team YouTube page shared it back in 2020.
"Don't" is a song we will hear during the Persona 3 Reload Episode Aigis DLC. However, we do already have an idea of how it will sound. The latest trailer for the game featured it in the background while showing new footage. However, this only involves brief portions of the track and not the full, uninterrupted song.
Atlus also noted there will be a bonus image for anyone who adds the DLC soundtrack ahead of its launch. That is scheduled to appear on Apple and Spotify's services on September 10, 2024, when the add-on launches.
Persona 3 Reload is available now on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Episode Aigis: The Answer will debut on September 10, 2024.

The release date for The Plucky Squire, the new Devolver Digital game from Pokemon artist James Turner's All Possible Futures, is also the day it will join the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog.
A new The Plucky Squire trailer appeared alongside the release date announcement. It shows how everything starts within a book, with the Jot the Squire heading out to save Mojo from a sorcerer named Humgrump. Part of Jot's abilities involve being able to leave the book and head out to the desk to fight on other surfaces. So things often go from 2D to 3D and back again.
Here's the new video. At the 50 second mark, Devolver Digital and All Possible Futures joke about how long it took for the release date to come up with in-game dialogue being replaced.
As for the PlayStation Plus access to The Plucky Squire, you will need the higher tiers to play it. It will become a part of the Extra and Premium library of games. So it would be a minimum of $14.99 per month to access it.
The Plucky Squire release date is September 17, 2024. It will be available on the PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC. It will join PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium that day.

Natsume announced a release date for Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home, its new game in the series, and it's only a week away. The game will launch on Android and Apple iOS devices on August 23, 2024.
As is common in Harvest Moon games, Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home starts with our avatar starting life over again in a small town. In this case, rather than returning to a family member's place to run a farm, we return to where we grew up. The goals involve running a successful ranch, getting close to the other people in town, and helping to develop Alba Village so it will grow.
There's also a new trailer showing how this Harvest Moon game looks and works. It starts with the male version of the avatar reading a letter while at a bus stop, then arriving back at Alba Village. From there, we see the character in front of some fields with new crops growing. After that, the character walks around town. We also see a shift in perspective to the female protagonist. Conversations with Jacques and Jean, two residents, come up. There's also a closer look at a field that contains ordinary crops, like eggplants, pineapples, and watermelons, alongside one that looks like a snowman. From there, we get to see livestock like cows, sheep, chickens, horses. The fishing minigame, horse races, and more love interests appear after that.
Here's that full trailer showing off the game.
The Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home release date is August 23, 2024, and people with Android and Apple iOS tablets and phones will be able to play it.

All Nippon Airways shared a new in-flight safety video for its ANA Pikachu and Eevee Jet NH Pokemon planes. It looks at how the interior of the planes call attention to Pokemon elements, and CG animated characters also appear. It is available in English and Japanese.
All of the guidance in the All Nippon Airways Pokemon video is fairly typical. However, the UI features Poke Balls and various Pokemon are used in examples showing what people should and shouldn't do. So when it comes to putting items in the overhead compartments properly, we watch a Farfetched store a leek in one bin. Because someone blocked the aisle with a bag during one part, a Greedent trips and spills all of the berries it carried. (A Pichu and Pikachu appear alongside a flight attendant to help.) Rowlet, Pikachu, and Machoke show up to highlight the proper way to fasten a seatbelt. Jigglypuff also appears to show displeasure at someone considering smoking on the flight.
Here's the full Pokemon in-flight safety video, which we can watch on YouTube.
As a reminder, here's how that ANA Pikachu Jet NH plane looks. In addition to a Pikachu "flying" via multicolor balloons, the design features characters like Charizard, Emolga, Latias, Latios, Rayquaza, Rowlet, Togekiss, and Vivillion. The seats inside feature Pikachu, as do the paper cups for drinks and napkins.
Meanwhile, the ANA Pokemon Eevee Jet NH features Pikachu, Eevee, Espeon, Flareon, Glaceon, Jolteon, Leafeon, Sylveon, Umbreon, and Vaporeon. Those flights feature the same Pikachu seats, cups, napkins, and other designs.
The Pokemon in-flight safety video is now being used by All Nippon Airways as of August 15, 2024.

Blaze Entertainment announced that its next Evercade classic collection cartridge will be Legacy of Kain Collection. That will feature two games, which are Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, and follows similar collections for series like Duke Nukem and Tomb Raider.
This new collection will launch in September 2024. Pre-orders aren't open at sites like Funstock or Amazon. However, the Duke Nukem Collection I cartridge was $23.11, and Tomb Raider Collection I costs $28.89. Also, like all cartridges, people will be able to use it on the EXP-R handheld, VS-R console, Alpha, and Super Pocket.
As for the titles, both involve the opportunity to play the 32-bit games on a newer console and handheld. Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain helps set the stage. In it, players control Kain, a man turned into a vampire who is defeating corrupt Circle of Nine Pillars and ascend to power. As a result of that crusade, the events of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver occur. In it, Kain's former lieutenant Raziel is punished for growing wings by Kain and sent to his death, but instead he becomes a soul reaver tasked with defeating Kain to restore the natural order.
Here's the first trailer for the Evercade collection, which shows how both games look when running on the systems.
We may also see more Legacy of Kain games soon, as there were SDCC 2024 figures on display of Kain and Raziel. What was interesting about those is that the placards for them didn't refer to the original titles. Instead, both featured Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver I & II Remastered branding, suggesting those two entries will return via remaster releases.
Legacy of Kain Collection, which features the games Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, will appear for the Evercade in September 2024.
