Spiritfarer is a game about letting go. It might be a cozy, hand-drawn management life sim on the surface, but underneath that warm exterior is an experience that asks you how you feel about death, losing the people you love, and what it means to move on. It was by far one of my favorite videogames of 2020, and every time I have an excuse to talk about it, I take it. So if you're looking for one of the best management sims ever, made with some real meat on its bones (both in terms of content and themes), this new sale is the perfect time to try Spiritfarer.

This Noctua PSU looks perfect for a silent gaming PC build, if you can afford it

PC cooling specialist Noctua has just revealed a new PC power supply that it's designed in collaboration with Seasonic. The new Seasonic Prime TX-1600 Noctua Edition is clad in the distinctive brown, beige, and black tones associated with the Noctua brand, and the company also says it specially designed the grill to reduce noise even further. You'll need deep pockets, though, as the price is a huge $569, $20 more than the coveted Steam Deck OLED.

This is about as premium as you can get in the PC PSU world, and the specs are certainly up there with the best power supply models we've seen. The Seasonic Prime TX-1600 Noctua Edition is rated at 1,600W, and also sports the 80 Plus Titanium badge, meaning its efficiency sits at 90% or above at any load, from 10% to 100%. Perhaps more importantly, Seasonic and Noctua have specifically designed this PSU for "silence," and in this case that doesn't appear to be hyperbole.

There's a new budget Intel gaming CPU coming, benchmark leak suggests

A new Intel Core Ultra CPU benchmark has just appeared in the Geekbench browser, potentially showing off the first real-world results of an unreleased Arrow Lake CPU, the Intel Core Ultra 5 225F. The leaked benchmark is the first result we've seen for this lower-spec gaming CPU, and judging from its specs, it could become a new budget-friendly option.

That's because this new Intel Core Ultra CPU looks to be a like-for-like successor to the Intel Core i5 13400F which, despite its age, is still one of the best gaming CPUs you can buy on a budget. Like the 13400F, we're assuming that this new Core Ultra 5 225F CPU from Intel won't come with an integrated GPU, thanks to the 'F' suffix.

Two new Intel Arc graphics cards were just accidentally leaked by Amazon

More evidence is mounting that a new Intel GPU launch is coming for the holiday season, thanks to a massive faux pas by Amazon. The retailer just listed two new Intel Arc Battlemage graphics cards, made by ASRock on its site, including photos and a few of the specs details.

If the leak is right, these new cards with Intel GPUs look like lower mid-range contenders, going up against the likes of the AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060. The Arc B580 doesn't look like it has any chance of threatening the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 for the very best graphics card title, but it looks as though Intel has made this new GPU architecture significantly more power-efficient than its predecessor.

League of Legends season 2025 better integrates lore and finally changes ranked

It's been an odd year for League of Legends fans. While the return of Arcane has closed out the year on a high note, issues with balancing, two rounds of layoffs, controversial monetization, and the removal of the Mythic item system has left the game in a somewhat perplexing state. Innovations like Swarm have certainly been welcome, but for a lot of fans felt like side-projects instead of meaningful changes. All of this has left me feeling somewhat lukewarm about what comes next: how does Riot bring back the glory days of League of Legends? Having taken a sneak peek at what's coming next, Season 2025 is certainly a step in the right direction, and if the team pulls it off, it may just pave the way for a very exciting future.

Brutal, 99% rated Steam FPS game gets huge free expansion with nine new levels

Half-Life, Counter-Strike 2, and Fallout. These are slower-paced shooters, where you need to count your bullets, watch your step, and take down enemies methodically and cautiously. I like this kind of high-pressure, knife-edge action, but sometimes you just want to cut loose. Doom Eternal is a great, relatively recent example. Embellishing the spirit of id Software's peerless original, it's all about speed and aggression, a boiling, bloody ballet that challenges you to kill fast and kill lots. Such is the style of one of 2024's best-loved Steam FPS games. You may not have heard of it, but it's got almost spotless reviews and a new, free expansion that adds nine fresh levels. Baldur's Gate 3 proved that what was once old can be made new again, as Larain's follow-up to the beloved RPG series quickly took over Steam and continues to thrive over a year post-launch. Dark Souls, meanwhile, proved that challenge, and how that puts players through immense hurdles, can work in favor of a game's design instead of against it.      AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D are coming, but with a catch, says leak

There are two new AMD Ryzen 9000X3D gaming CPUs with 3D V-cache coming very soon, according to the latest leak. If this rumor is correct, then we'll only be waiting two more months before the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D are released. However, it looks as though there's a big catch, which would make the cheaper 9800X3D the better CPU for gaming, as with the 7800X3D before it.

That's because the Ryzen 7 9800X3D specs lend themselves to reliable gaming performance, with all eight of its cores getting access to the big slice of 64MB 3D V-cache. As we found in our 9800X3D review, this AMD tech really bumps up the CPU's performance in games, as does its 5.2GHz boost clock, which is faster than the 5GHz of the 7800X3D.

Possibly, you are Down because you are a manifestation of the aforementioned Badness. Possibly, the monstrous things trying to thwart your ascent are merely trying to stop you contaminating the surface world. Possibly, they are the Real Heroes. It doesn't really matter, because you don't have a choice. There is a wall of unspeakable flesh coming up the tunnel behind you. To avoid becoming part of it, you must climb.

That's right, Amazon and a bunch of other retails have launched their BF sales a week early, which is annoying, unless you're in the market for a Steam Deck case upgrade. If so, consider the compact, multifunctional ModCase, which is down to just £24 / $24. That makes for savings of 33% and 20% respectively, on what was already a nicely affordable alternative to the luxury of Dbrand's similar Project Killswitch.

The enemies of survival shooter Stalker 2 have a funny habit of showing up right behind you, like a panto villain with an AK-47. Far from being a premeditated ambush by intelligent AI-controlled soldiers, this is just a result of the game's janky spawns. Those botched encounters are unlike previous games, where roaming bands of factional murderfolk would patrol the radioactive wastes, seemingly according to their own whims. Back in the day, this wandering baddies feature was dubbed "A-life" by developers GSC Game World - basically a jargon word for the simulation of enemies that would lead to "emergent" moments of violence and conflict. It was promised as a feature in Stalker 2 but many players have noticed it seems to be absent. Over the weekend, GSC insisted the simulation is technically present in the sequel. It's just broken.

If you're a fan of Warhammer 40k, you know John Blanche. Even if it's you're first time hearing his name, you'll be familiar with his fingerprints on some of the setting's most defining artwork. He's responsible for that iconic imagine of the emprah - the one the best shows off the dark irony of a such a wretched figure becoming an idol of worship. While the term 'grimdark' originates from 40k's "in the grim darkness of the far future…" tagline, grimdark as an aesthetic is one Blanche pioneered. There's even a style of miniature painting - Blanchitsu - named after him.

Basically, even games that don't use the 40k license owe an incredible amount to Blanche's work. That's not to mention his influence on the fantasy setting of the Total War: Warhammer series either. His piece Harry The Hammer was the cover for the first edition of Fantasy Battle - recently added to the strategy game as chaos hero Harold Hammerstorm. I could go on, and I might do so in a bit, but here's the news: Trademark Films are making a documentary on Blanche's work, starring Napoleon Dynamite actor Jon Heder. It's called The Grim And The Dark: The Search For John Blanche, and it's out next Spring. Here's a trailer:

Never 7 The End of Infinity and Ever 17 The Out of Infinity getting remasters

Mages has revealed that it will release remasters of Never 7: The End of Infinity and Ever 17: The Out of Infinity in early March 2025. The remasters for both visual novels will appear on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. Spike Chunsoft announced it will release them worldwide on March 6, 2025.

While Never 7 has also appeared on Android mobile devices with bonus apps like calculator and minigames, Mages will use KID's original 2000 release on Sega Dreamcast as a basis for this remaster.

Meanwhile, Ever 17—which originally came out in 2002—will have some significant changes. 5pb released a remake on Xbox 360 with 3D character models in 2011, but Mages will revert them back to 2D graphics in the upcoming remaster. However, the company will still retain the character costumes and scenarios that appeared in the Xbox 360 remake.

Mages also announced that it will sell physical Switch releases for both visual novel remasters in Japan and Asia. It also mentioned additional subtitles in English and Traditional Chinese besides Japanese. While Ever 17 already had an English PC localization released in North America in 2005, this will mark the first time Never 7 has had an official English release without having to rely on fan translation patches.

The remasters of Never 7: The End of Infinity and Ever 17: The Out of Infinity will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam on March 6, 2025.

People who get Honkai: Star Rail's Sparkle in Honkai Impact 3rd will also be able to earn an additional costume for her.

Here's the official announcement showing how Sparkle looks when wearing the Fictitious Game costume in Honkai Impact 3rd. While her normal outfit has something of a kimono look to it, this is a more traditional dress with frills and ribbons. However, it is still her signature color, which is red.

https://twitter.com/HonkaiImpact3rd/status/1860624404721344789

The event involving the costume is called Honkai: A Fool's Hand. The Hyperion Lounge showcase teased how it looks a little. It involves taking Sparkle around maps based on Honkai: Star Rail. There will be a card game tied to it, which involves placing cards in your hand in locations in the public pool to take advantage of special buffs. The end of the video segment also shows that outfit in action.

The latest Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie trailer confirms there will be a Chao Garden Easter egg in the upcoming film.

The second Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie trailer is here, and it starts with a Chao Garden Easter egg. The over two minute long video then goes on to showcase returning characters like Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, who appeared in the first and second films, as well as newcomer Shadow.

Instead of a traditional Chao Garden, the one appearing in the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie trailer is a Chuck E. Cheese style restaurant and experience with the Chao appearing as people in giant costumes. Of the first three Chao mascots we see, there's a standard Neutral one between what look like Fly and Power types.

After that, the main plot points come through. We see Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles captured by Dr. Robotnik and Gerald Robotnik and about to be destroyed by Shadow. It's then that they use a ring to reach Tom and Maddie Wachowski again.

Here's the full trailer:

Now that the release date is drawing near, we're learning lots more about the film. For example, we know the Japanese cast for the movie now. The biggest reveal there is that Shadow the Hedgehog is played by Toshiyuki Morikawa.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be coming to movie theaters on December 20, 2024.

There are only a few days left to take part in the Monster Hunter Puzzles: Felyne Isles Sanrio event with Hello Kitty items.

Capcom reminded people that Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters joined the Palicos in Monster Hunter Puzzles: Felyne Isles. The company confirmed the event is about to end on November 29, 2024, giving people less than a week to get themed items in the game. Some of them are tied to the Sanrio Nyantasia Vtubers.

The event included a login campaign and otehr activities. The one social media post showed Hello Kitty with Palicos and noted the login campaign. Showing up each day gets you special items. One will be a Hello Kitty shirt one of your Monster Hunter Puzzles: Felyne Isles Palicos can wear. The others seem to be eyes inspired by the Nyantasia Sanrio Vtubers Nyamamugi Tart and Nyamaharu Eru.

Here's that reveal:

The other items involve special clothing and accessories. The trailer showed Hello Kitty walking through the village, a full outfit inspired by her, and how it looks when a character wears it while taking on puzzles.

We've often seen Monster Hunter crossover with Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters. It's been going on for years. Monster Hunter Journal: Poka Poka Felyne Village had an event back in 2010. There was also an official merchandise line earlier in 2024, which featured mascots dressed up as familiar Monster Hunter monsters.

Monster Hunter Puzzles: Felyne Isles is available on mobile devices. Its Sanrio event ends on November 29, 2024.

Aquapazza - Aquaplus Dream Match coming to PC Steam

Aquaplus revealed that it will bring Aquapazza: Aquaplus Dream Match to PC. The fighting game, which originally appeared on arcades and PlayStation 3, will be available on Steam in 2025. DMM Games and Shiravune will help Aquaplus release the PC version worldwide with English and Traditional Chinese subtitle options in addition to Japanese, although it will only have voiceovers in Japanese.

Aquaplus first unveiled the in-house crossover fighting game in 2011, and it made its debut in arcades in the same year. The company later released a home console port for PlayStation 3 in Japan in August 2012. Atlus USA helped release an English localization of the PS3 version in North America in late 2013. It will thus take around 24 years since the original 2011 arcade release until the PC port comes out in 2025.

Aquapazza features a total of 26 characters from Aquaplus franchises like Utawarerumono, To Heart, White Album, and Tears to Tiara. However, only 13 of them are actually selectable as the main playable characters. The remaining half only appear as partner characters with unique assist moves, but players can freely choose any pair of player and partner characters.

Aquapazza: Aquaplus Dream Match will be available worldwide on PC via Steam in 2025.

5.3 Genshin Impact Characters Are Pyro Archon Mavuika and Citlali

As is typical for Genshin Impact and HoYoVerse, we now know that the Natlan Pyro Archon Mavuika and Citlali will be playable characters in 5.3. The company took to social media to tease both new units. There are brief video clips for them, as well as short summaries detailing their background and what to expect from them.

First, the Mavuika posts describe the Pyro Archon as a "sun" that won't set in Genshin Impact. It also references how she performs the Pilgrimage of the Return fo the Sacred Flame in the nation. The Knights of Favonius Grand Master Varka also mentioned he met her in a second tweet. As expected, she'll by a Pyro unit with the Sol Invictus Constellation and Night-Igniting Flame title.

As for Citlali, the summaries about the Genshin Impact heroine bring up how she's the Grannt Itztli and Obsidian Opalstar who lives a rather isolated life. However, rather than being totally terrifying, she's hidden away snacking and reading light novels. The only person to talk about the Cryo character known as the Stargazer of Mictlan is Mavuika, who said she should have become a chief.

The two current characters you can get in 5.2 are Chasca and Lyney. After that, Neuvillette and Zhongli will appear on banners again on December 11, 2024.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices, and it seems we'll see Mavuika and Citlali as playable characters in 5.3.

The company also added that the Maxim Tomatoes, which can fully recover Kirby's health in the game franchise, serve as an inspiration for this collaboration.

Heinz will produce a total of nine pouch designs, with the 400g and 250g tomato ketchup pouches having three designs with Kirby taking different poses. The Thai cuisine-inspired Sriracha ketchup pouch will also feature a Waddle Dee cameo in the background.

Here is the complete lineup of products in this collaboration lineup, along with their respective prices in Japanese yen:

The Kirby-branded Heinz ketchup pouches will be available for sale in Japan in limited numbers starting from late November 2024.

GI Joe Wrath of Cobra Team

We're in a minor renaissance for 2D brawlers. Once a dead genre left in the 1990s, we now have a full resurgence thanks to games like Streets of Rage 4, River City Girls and TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra is the latest classic franchise brought back in brawler form, as Hasbro's action figure line takes center stage.

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra has a simple premise. COBRA has unleashed an army of clones to attack the world's monuments, you have to stop them. That's it. Now go punch some guys. At the start of the game you can play as four characters, all from the 1980s G.I. Joe team: Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes and Roadblock.

If you've played any other game in this genre, you already know how gameplay operates. You're on a 2D plane moving from left to right, although there is some movement up and down the screen too. You fight off armies of enemies that attempt to crowd around you and punch you in the face, so you have to punch them first. There are two attack buttons, and these attacks change when dashing, along with an aerial move. There's also a special move you can activate once you've filled up an energy bar. The specifics of these moves change between characters, although the general control scheme stays the same.

Screenshot by Siliconera

However, while other modern brawlers have done interesting things with their mechanics, G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra feels comparatively basic. While Streets of Rage 4 offered creative use of special moves and Shredder's Revenge offered some superb movement mechanics, Wrath of Cobra…has guns. Various firearms drop throughout the levels and can be used to blast enemies from across the stage. It's not the most interesting addition, but there is some satisfaction to be found in blasting enemies from across the stage for a moment. Sadly, they can turn those guns on you too, which is much less satisfying to deal with.

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra is old school to a fault here. It's missing most of its contemporaries' quality-of-life improvements, instead feeling like it stumbled straight out of 1992. Defensive and movement options are limited. Some enemies are tedious damage sponges. Getting surrounded happens often and can be brutal. All these elements were present in classic Streets of Rages and Double Dragons, which I still consider to be great games. However, while it's easy to accept all this in games from the NES and Genesis eras, it's less forgivable in 2024 when so many games have moved the genre forward in recent years.

On top of this, movement is sluggish and occasionally unresponsive. This is notable in turning, which was either so fast I broke into an unintentional run or it simply didn't register that I wanted to turn around. Turning in mid-air was also a dice roll, as the game simply decided on a whim whether or not it was possible to do.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Character balance is also significantly messy. I tried out each of the initial four characters and it's impressive how much character choice affects the experience. If you're playing as Snake Eyes, you can bump this review's score up a point. He's ludicrously fast, his attacks have brilliant range, he can dish out endless combos and, most importantly, his special summons a wolf. Playing as Snake Eyes felt like a power fantasy and much more in line with what I was expecting.

Then we have the rest of the cast. Duke is decent, but he's also where most of my complaints about the game's sluggishness came from. He's the most generic brawler character imaginable, with decent moves that don't stand out much. He does have a cool dash move quirk where he'll slide himself behind an enemy but other than this, he's average in every way.

And then we have Scarlett and Roadblock. The latter is a powerhouse with his attacks, but good luck getting them out because he's so slow you'll likely be hit before your animation barely begins. Scarlett has the opposite problem, with excellent speed but weak attacks. She should have one of the best attacks in the game, as she drops a miniature bomb for her aerial, but the explosive range is poor and it's next to impossible to aim effectively. One of her dash moves inexplicably leaves her vulnerable for a full second too, a decision seemingly based on nothing more than trolling the player.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Presentation is serviceable. The sprite work is excellent but it's hard to shake the feeling that it's all pretty standard. I know I keep making comparisons to other recent brawlers Wrath of Cobra feels noticeably bland compared to the likes of Streets of Rage 4. That said, I did like how much of the military equipment was so obviously based on the toy line where the sight of every dirt bike and van led me to hearing "playsets sold separately" in my head. The goofy plastic feel of everything adds a lot to the setting, and I wish they'd leaned into it further to give the game a more unique identity.

The intro animations are severely lacking though. The character designs are bland and the voice acting is terrible. However, I'm willing to give it some credit if this was an intentional choice to replicate the stiff, limited animations of many 80s cartoons. Sadly, this is still better than how the rest of the story is delivered. You get text on the most boring loading screens in existence and nothing more. Obviously, story isn't a huge draw for games of this type, but it did feel cheap.

Screenshot by Siliconera

The soundtrack was good, but I couldn't help but feel like Tee Lopes was phoning it in. There's still some catchy tunes here but it doesn't quite reach the heights of his previous work in Sonic Mania or Shredder's Revenge. That said, the opening theme song was a bop, mostly enhanced by the presence of Crush 40's Johnny Gioeli. It's an original composition rather than a recreation of the 80s theme song, but I feel it was a significant improvement. Gioeli is roaring "the all-American hero" with the same energy he sings about hedgehogs and "hell yes" is the only possible response.

However, it would be nice if the game's technical issues didn't get in the way of my enjoyment of that opening theme. Both animated sequences at the start of the game suffered problems in my copy. The opening animation just cut off halfway through while the opening story animation crashed the game entirely. While I rarely had issues in actual gameplay, those two glitches left a bad first impression.

On the whole, I found a decent amount of enjoyment in G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra. For the most part, it's a standard brawler which is a fun time for a few hours, and I imagine is enhanced with friends. However, the inexperience of the dev team shows throughout, and I was left imagining how much better this would have been in the hands of Dotemu or WayForward.

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra ends up being a decent if unremarkable entry into the retro brawler genre. However, unbalanced characters, technical issues and bland presentation make it hard to recommend over more polished games from recent years.

G.I Joe: Wrath of Cobra is out now for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
