Is Dune Awakening down? While we still love single-player games, but there's also something to be said for the chaotic joy to be had in multiplayer experiences - especially massively multiplayer ones.

One of the few downsides that comes with playing with friends and strangers around the world is the instability of online servers. As a survival MMO, Dune Awakening could be victim to severe server downtime, so if you're struggling to get into Arrakis, that could be why. When is the Black Ops 7 release date? This June, Activision dropped a casual reveal trailer for the next game in the Call of Duty line-up as part of a jam-packed Summer Game Fest weekend. The annualised series tends to bounce between Black Ops, Modern Warfare, and other Call of Duty sub-series, giving the respective teams time to bring their game to fruition.

For the first time in Black Ops history, however, we're going straight from one BO game to another following 2024's Black Ops 6. That said, we're not continuing the story where it left off. Instead, Black Ops 7 takes us to a futuristic 2035, 40 years on from the '90s setting of BO6. Familiar faces do return in the FPS game, though, while mind-bending chaos takes the series to a place it's never been before. Here's everything we know about the BO7 release date so far.

The game, which takes place in the irradiated Chornobyl region it's named after, is similar to post-apocalyptic games like Fallout 4, Metro Exodus, and, most strikingly, Stalker 2. Doom 3 is far from the best entry to the long-running FPS series, but a moody atmosphere, created by impressive lighting technology, still makes its Martian setting a compelling place to explore. It's also helped a group of modders called Team Future to use the game as the foundation for a sprawling expansion, Doom 3: Phobos, that adds a lengthy, unofficial story spin-off to the game well worth checking out. There's something particularly appealing about horror games set in space stations. If you've ever fancied yourself a medieval ruler, there are plenty of options. Manor Lords proved the appetite for period city building with its huge early-access launch in 2024, and Medieval Dynasty is similarly well liked. Newcomer Noble Legacy, which has just confirmed its own launch for July, aims to offer a more inviting and laid-back option, minimizing combat and battle elements in favor of a focus on building, customization, and town management. I took an exclusive look at the opening hours, and quickly found myself wrapped in its blend of Valheim-adjacent building and worker organization.

The hardest part of survival games is, well, the survival. As someone with an impressive talent for attaining random injuries and bizarre illnesses, there's a reason that I'm a games journalist and not an intrepid outdoor specialist. What is the best Elden Ring Nightreign Executor build? Everyone loves a soulslike samurai, so it should come as no surprise that there's a dedicated class for it in FromSoftware's spin-off. This melee Nightfarer wields a cursed katana, and favors the same deflection-driven combat style as seen in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Executor is the most difficult Nightreign class to master, but it's also the most rewarding. Its high skill ceiling proves an excellent challenge for seasoned soulslike game fans who like to parry and deflect damage, then break a foe's stance to inflict a fatal critical hit. With our best Executor build under your belt in Elden Ring Nightreign, you can transform this silent samurai into a beast on the battlefield.

Looking back to the distant past is always a good way to frame a city-building game. Manor Lords, Banished, Going Medieval, and Stronghold all use more or less accurately modeled historical settings to add extra appeal to their approaches to the genre. Norse: Oath of Blood takes a similar tack, but goes further, blending a grounded depiction of Viking era life with tactical battles and rich character work to create something unique.

As soon as Hitman devs IO Interactive were revealed to be making a Bond game, I was on board with it. Agent 47 and 007 have a bunch in common, at least in terms of the sneaky, shooty, or stabby stuff their jobs entail, so IO'd be putting a fresh twist on a kind of game it's already proven great at making. There is a difference though, and having killed Le Chiffre in Hitman over the weekend, I feel like I understand it better than before.

IO exec Hakan Abrak has offered his view on how 007: First Light's Bond will play differently to 47 in an interview with IGN, which I'm glad to see also saw him emphasise that the studio aren't done with the Hitman series.

Volume 2 of the Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook Debuts in 2025

Back in 2021, Square Enix and Victoria Rosenthal released The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook: The Essential Culinarian Guide to Hydaelyn. You can still find that for $29.99 on stores like Amazon. Now, a companion to it will appear, as volume 2 of the FFXIV cookbook launches in October 2025. The Square Enix Online Store and Amazon are already taking pre-orders for $34.99 each.

The full title this time is The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook Volume 2: The Culinarian's Journey from Shadow to Shore. This is to represent the regions covered in this installment. While the first entry primarily covered the base game, Heavensward, and Stormblood, this one includes food from the expansions Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail. 70 total recipes based on meals from the game will appear, and there will be step-by-step instructions and photos of how everything should look.

Only three specific meals ended up being confirmed for this book so far. One is the Alpine Breakfast that debuted in Heavensward, and will likely involve ingredients like bread, eggs, cheese, chicken, spinach, and tomatoes. The Tacos de Carne Asada are a Dawntrail recipe. In-game, this dish involves items like flour, meat, garlic, onion, paprika, and pepper. Finally, Pudding of Perseverance & Prominence will be in there, though I can't seem to find a counterpart for that.

The Ultimate Final Fantasy XIV Cookbook Volume 2: The Culinarian's Journey from Shadow to Shore will debut in October 2025, and FFXIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Idol Corp announced on its official social media account that the Vtubers Coni Confetti, Kai Saikota, and Nikki Rei will all graduate, but all three will perform at a concert at OffKai Expo Gen 4 between June 20-22, 2025 ahead of their June 30, 2025 graduation date. Of the three, only Nikki will continue to perform as an indie under the same identity after that date.

First, here is the Idol Corp announcement that stated the three Vtubers would be leaving the company by June 30, 2025. It thanked all three of item. It also noted that anyone who attends OffKai Expo Gen 4 will be able to leave fan letters for the performers at the San Jose, California event.

Each of the performers also shared messages on social media and, in some cases, during streams that went over the announcement. On June 8, 2025, Coni Confetti said on social media, "…I cant do an announcement stream or grad stream cus im [sic] locked out of my stuff right now LMAO." She did share this message, however:

Coni Confetti, Kai Saikota, and Nikki Rei will graduate from Idol Corp by June 30, 2025, but all three Vtubers will perform at OffKai Expo Gen 4 before that happens.

Two Spook Shack Characters Join Zenless Zone Zero in 2.1 Alice Thymefield and Yuzuha Ukinami

When a new update arrives in a HoYoVerse game, the company usually takes to social media to tease gacha characters that will appear in the next version. It's happened again now for the 2.1 Zenless Zone Zero patch, as the company shared two Spook Shack faction characters named Alice Thymefield and Yuzuha Ukinami who will appear. Both are Thirens.

Alice Thymefield is a Anomaly Agent in Zenless Zone Zero. She deals physical damage when she attacks with her sword. She also seems to be a fencer. She comes from a noble family. The announcement didn't note exactly what kind of Thiren she is.

Here's her first trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/IUnJ0me5qPA

Yuzuha Ukinami, meanwhile, is clearly billed as a tanuki Thiren in Zenless Zone Zero. She acts in a Support role for the Spook Shack faction, and she also deals physical damage.

We can see her for the first time here:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/pxuFs6u3TUc

Here's a gallery of the first images for both new heroines.

This means we've seen quite a few new Thiren characters in Zenless Zone Zero since the 2.0 series of patches kicked off. Two of them are in the Yunkui Summit faction. Pan Yinhu is a panda, while Ju Fufu is a tiger.

Zenless Zone Zero is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices,

Give Cow Costumes in Mario Kart World, Nintendo

Dash Food is one of the more fun surprises in Mario Kart World. Grab a meal, get a speed boost and maybe a costume! I have sacrificed first or second place in a race to ensure someone gets a snack when I know I'm missing one of their outfits. But there's one tragedy here. You can't dress up Cow in costumes in Mario Kart World, and it's one of Nintendo's greatest failings in an otherwise exemplary game

For my first full day with the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World, I only used Cow. Cow is wonderful. I love everything about her. But I also know I missed so many opportunities when I did. Lots of other characters can get variants with new outfits via Dash Food, and it might be fun to use this early unlocking push to also get those costumes.

I had fun doing it! Especially with characters such as Peach, Daisy, and Rosalina, as I knew all three had pretty decent wardrobes to start. However, as I did so, I also started to feel bad. Why?

Because Cow deserves costumes in Mario Kart World

Nintendo knew ahead of time Cow is a standout. Cow is the reason NPCs and certain enemies got to be playable characters in Mario Kart World. From the moment Cow ended up being confirmed, she's been the talk of the town. Her not getting her own outfits is a travesty.

I found it especially disheartening once I started unlocking costumes for other Mario Kart World characters who are enemies or weren't drivers before. Lakitu? He's got two costumes. King Boo gets three extra variants. Poor Cow gets nothing.

Now, I know there could be excuses (bad ones) for Cow being neglected and denied costumes in Mario Kart World. She's a cow. Sure. But again, that doesn't stop King Boo. There could be cute collars for her or a hat.

Especially since we know Cow can wear a hat. She will don a crown, just like everyone else, once you come in first in Grand Prix or Knockout Tour to show your achievement for getting first place. Give her a straw farmer hat similar to Peach's! Let her get a cute bow like Birdo! Give her a permanent tiara like the queen she is!

Cow deserves to dress up and be pretty in Mario Kart World, and Nintendo should acknowledge that by giving her costumes in an update. Let her wear fun hats! Give her necklaces! Maybe she could wear a cape! Don't limit her and those of us who love her!

Mario Kart World is available for the Switch 2.

First Bleach Rebirth of Souls DLC Is Another Ichigo Kurosaki

Bandai Namco announced the first Bleach Rebirth of Souls DLC character and it will be Ichigo Kurosaki (Thousand Year Blood War Arc). If someone has the $24.99 Season Pass, he will debut on June 10, 2025. Everyone else can get him on June 17, 2025.

Editor's Note: There will be spoilers for the Bleach Thousand Year Blood War anime in the Rebirth of Souls Ichigo Kurosaki DLC trailer below.

This video primarily focuses on some gameplay footage samples. None of this version of Ichigo's attacks are named. Instead, after seeing a quick series of images highlighting existing characters in the game, we see this Thousand Year Blood War Arc fighter appear. First, there's a static image of his art. Then, we see him take the field. He uses two attacks, as well as appears in a notable form for this version of the hero.

Here's the full trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E79OlGFGKHs

This means there will be four versions of Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach Rebirth of Souls once this DLC debuts. The first is a standard version of the character. The second Bandai Namco revealed ended up being Ichigo Kurosaki (Bankai). The third turned out to be Ichigo Kurosaki (Final Getsugatensho). Each one highlights the hero at different points of the series.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls is on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the full launch of Ichigo Kurosaki (Thousand Year Blood War Arc) happens on June 17, 2025. The Bleach anime, including Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, are streaming on on Disney+ and HuluViz Media handles the manga series outside of Japan.

New Pokemon Squishmallows Are Torchic and Cheery Pikachu

The Pokemon Company International announced that the next two Squishmallows based on the series' characters are Torchic and a Cheery Pikachu variant plush. Each one costs $29.99. Only the 12 inch variants are available on the official Pokemon Center online storefront now. The official email outreach noted these are pre-orders, but exact release dates didn't appear.

Like all Squishmallows plush, these two are each an oval, pillow-like shape with a few distinctive, identifiable characteristics. In the case of the Torchic, it features feathers all around the character's neck, a beak, and more feathers on the character's head. The Pikachu has its characteristic ears, red cheeks, embroidered arms on the front fabric, brown back stripes, and its zig-zag tail.

Since these are the Pokemon Center releases of these two Squishmallows, the Torchic and Cheery Pikachu plush feature other characteristics unique to this retailer. Each one has a tag attached with special imagery, as well as a Poke Ball-shaped patch on the back. Ensuing releases at retail stores like Walgreens and Walmart won't feature the patch or tag. However, those ones will appear in different sizes.

Here's how the Torchic and Cheery Pikachu Squishmallows look:

The previous two releases in this series were Chansey and Eevee.

This means Pikachu is the most common plush in this line. A standard one appeared in 2023. A Winking Pikachu version debuted after that. A Christmas variant wears a Santa hat. As these are quite common, it isn't unusual to find them at places like Amazon or Walmart.

The Torchic and Cheery Pikachu Squishmallows are on the way. The most recent games in the series are Pokemon Scarlet and Violet for the Switch.

Hololive Dodgers Vtubers and Merchandise Revealed

Earlier in June 2025, Cover confirmed a Hololive Dodgers night would take place at 4:15pm PT/7:15pm ET on July 5, 2025, and now we know the Vtubers who will take part and what kind of merchandise will be available. Koseki Bijou, IRyS, and Ninomae Ina'nis are the featured performers. There will be baseball cards for each of them given away to everyone with a ticket. There will also be five kinds of merchandise and food vendors will sell items in special cups and popcorn buckets. Tickets are available through the official MLB site, and Cover noted to use the code "HOLO" when checking out.

Bijou, IRyS, and Ina'nis will all be depicted in Dodgers uniforms for the Hololive night event. Bijou looks like a pitcher, IRyS is in a pose as a batter, and Ina'nis is dressed like a catcher. Ordan created all three designs. These images are the ones on the baseball cards in a three-pack given to all attendees with tickets. There is also a chance of getting an autographed card. The three of them will hold a stream at the stadium, lead a Crowd Dance Project, and sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the seventh inning stretch.

Here's how those cards for each of the Vtubers will look:

As for merchandise, we know how some of the items will look. Five initial types are confirmed, and they'll be at all of the Dodger Stadium gift shops. Sticker sheets with four stickers, a towel with all three Vtubers, three types of acrylic pins, three types of acrylic stands, and a lanyard with the Dodgers and Hololive logos on them will all appear. No prices were mentioned in the reveal. Concessions will feature beer and soda cups with the performers, which will be collectible. The popcorn bucket will also feature the three. However, we don't know how those will look or what other types of items could appear.

Here's a gallery showing all the teaser images for Hololive Vtuber merchandise at the event:

Bijou, IRyS, and Ina'nis also appeared in a stream going over what to expect, which you can watch below:

The new Hololive Dodgers Night will take place during the Dodgers vs Astros game on July 5, 2025, and it will feature Hololive English branch members Koseki Bijou, IRyS, and Ninomae Ina'nis.

Live-Action The Legend of Zelda Movie Delayed

Nintendo, Arad Productions, and Sony Pictures started working on a The Legend of Zelda live-action movie years ago, but now we've learned it's going to be slightly delayed. The film first had a March 26, 2027 release date. Shigeru Miyamoto took to the official Japanese social media account to confirm the new debut is set for May 7, 2027. This will apply worldwide to theaters in every region.

As is common for these sort of delays, Miyamoto cited quality concerns as the reason for The Legend of Zelda live-action movie being delayed. He specifically suggested the move is to ensure an optimal performance. Here's the full statement:

https://twitter.com/Nintendo/status/1932075231885382103

We have no idea what this movie will look like yet. No cast members are confirmed. Wes Ball ended up confirmed as director back in 2023. Both Avi Arad and Shigeru Miyamoto are acting as producers

This will be the third Nintendo movie in recent years. The Super Mario Bros Movie came out in April 2023. A sequel to that is set to arrive on April 3, 2026.

The Legend of Zelda live-action film will show up in movie theaters on May 7, 2027, now that it's been delayed out of March 2027.

PIGFACE demo screenshot

If you've ever felt like playing a video game that's like a digital snuff film with retro graphics, Steam Next Fest has your back.

PIGFACE is now just a couple months away from launching in early access on Steam, but the June 2025 Steam Next Fest demo for the game is now live and ready for you to get your hands dirty with in all of its grimy and violent glory.

PIGFACE "Break Me" screenshot from gameplay
Image via DreadXP

"You wake up with an explosive headache in a pool of your own blood," the game's description says. "You're Exit, a terrible woman whose awful past has finally caught up to her. Fulfill contracts for the people who drilled into your skull — guns-blazing, slow and tactical — it doesn't matter. They know you'll do whatever it takes."

PIGFACE evokes memories of similar ultraviolent games before it, such as Manhunt on PS2. But it also has similar qualities as Hotline Miami as you make your way through levels, figuring out the best course of action to take down the people you must kill.

As Exit, with an explosive drilled into the base of your skull that your blackmailers can blow at any time, you take up contracts for whoever is blackmailing you to do their dirty work for ("they know what you've done and now they have a job for you," the Steam page says), and the rest is in your hands.

There are melee weapons, guns, Kevlar vests, and more for you to pick up and purchase on your missions. The demo contains the tutorial and one replayable level at a farmhouse where you're tasked with sneaking or shooting your way around, slaughtering all of your targets patrolling the area. Why? That's for the main game to explain.

But for now, the demo holds promise as a game that could be a hit with FPS players, speedrunners, and those who enjoyed Manhunt growing up before it started to get a little too much press and way too much heat for its depictions of violence.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5yXOY-kgdE&pp=ygUIcGlnZmFjZSA%3D

The PIGFACE demo is available now, and the game is scheduled to drop on Steam Early Access in early August.

Phase Zero gameplay screenshot

The latest iteration of Steam Next Fest has kicked off, so a torrent of demo downloads has begun. But I think I may have found one of my newest most anticipated games already.

It's called Phase Zero, and it's reminiscent of games like Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in the best possible ways. And it all starts before you even get to the main menu, with this ominous warning screen that PS1-era survival horror games were known for.

A warning screen at the start of Phase Zero.
Screenshot by Destructoid

Oh yeah. As a kid, this kind of screen really gave me the heebie jeebies. Now, it elicits a different kind of emotion in nostalgic excitement. Phase Zero starts off with the player character waking up in a hospital and being subjected to a waking nightmare.

Zombies? Check. Clunky tank controls? Check. Inventory screen with a map, files, and equippable weapons? Check. Puzzle-like elements with hints found in notes all over the place? Check check. This is classic Resident Evil, as classic as it gets, and the little sliver of playable content has me fiending for more.

This past weekend was a big one for Resident Evil, which confirmed RE9 as Resident Evil: Requiem coming in February, but the series' influence ahead of its 30th anniversary was seen throughout the showcases. Another that comes to mind is an upcoming title similarly called Ground Zero, funnily enough, which also got some love during the Future Games Show Summer Showcase.

A note in Phase Zero
Screenshot by Destructoid

The game's developer, SPINA Studio, describes Phase Zero as "a modern reimagining of the survival horror golden era classics" where "the story is told in a series like manner - each chapter stars one of the two heroes."

Like classic RE, it has "prerendered backgrounds, fixed cameras and the DNA of the PSX masterpieces" and "it blends nostalgic design with modern quality-of-life improvements, while honoring its iconic roots." Yup, I can confirm.

Phase Zero monstrosity screenshot

The Phase Zero demo is absolutely worth checking out, and if you're like me, slamming it into your Steam wishlist is the next course of action.

Deltarune first Sanctuary waterfall

Deltarune is full of secrets, with Chapter 4 featuring numerous Easter eggs, secret bosses, and special items to discover. Goldwidow is an item that, although relatively easy to obtain, is extremely difficult to find unless you're willing to experiment and spend a lot of money.

How to obtain Goldwidow in Deltarune

You can obtain Goldwidow by donating 10,000 D$ to the Old Man's Library waterfall. After meeting the Old Man and entering his study, you'll find this waterfall by heading up the stairs, entering the first doorway, and turning left at the first intersection. Donating to this waterfall will let you claim rewards later in Chapter 4's story, with Goldwidow being the reward for giving away 10,000 D$.

Deltarune waterfall holding goldwidow
Screenshot by Destructoid

However, even though you can donate 10,000 D$ near the start of the chapter, you won't be able to redeem the Goldwidow until much later. More specifically, you'll need to solve the mystery of the giant piano and progress through to the second Sanctuary.

That said, make sure to donate your dark dollars first before progressing to the second Sanctuary. You can't backtrack once you progress beyond this point. This first waterfall is also key to solving the Golden Piano puzzle and uncovering Chapter 4's secret ending, so be sure to wrap everything up here before advancing the plot further.

Within the second Sanctuary, you'll find a waterfall much like the one in the Old Man's library. However, while that one is the spot where you donate, this one is where you claim items, depending on how much you donate. As long as you toss a little bit of money into this waterfall, you'll receive a reward from the room's treasure chest. It's only when you donate a total of 10,000 D$ that you'll receive the Goldwidow.

As you'll quickly notice, 10,000 D$ is a lot of money, even if you've been actively battling enemies throughout your Deltarune playthrough. Here are a few tips for saving enough money to donate this amount before leaving the first Sanctuary:

  • Take part in every fight you encounter.
  • Find a room with enemies that's near a save point. One example is the Bibliox in the Old Man's library, but you can use any you find throughout this first Sanctuary.
  • Buy as few items as possible.

Ideally, by the time you reach the second Sanctuary, you should be close to 10,000 D$ so you'll have minimal grinding later. Although you'll spot enemies here and there, being able to obtain the Goldwidow as early as possible will help make the rest of Deltarune Chapter 4 much easier.

A yellow furry creature holds a plate with a half-made sandwhich on it against a blue background showing an open fridge.

It's 2005 again, and you're coming home to a box of freezer-burnt pizza rolls and plastic pouches of Capri Sun. Booting up your desktop computer is like waking a slumbering beast—and the monitor is probably as large as one, too.

Desktop size back in those days never accurately indicated operating power, but if you're like me, you used that behemoth to run the most basic browser games. You had your classics: QWOP, Line Rider, Interactive Buddy. Then there were the more obscure: The Impossible Game, Poptropica, Feed Me.

A female character from Poptropica jumps into the air, wearing a beanie.
Image via Coolmath Games

Despite the differences in popularity, they all had at least one thing in common. Using Adobe Flash, these games could be played for free directly in your browser, making them highly accessible to kids of all backgrounds, so long as they had an operational PC with the program installed. This accessibility led to a sharing of games between kids, almost like it was a cultural exchange—and boy, did we take advantage of it.

When I was in grade school in the early 2000s (and let's not get hung up on how long ago that was, now), my friends and I considered ourselves clever for cutting a deal with our teachers: We'd arrive to school early, and they'd unlock the computer lab door for us. Then we'd do the hard labor of turning on all the computers to get them warmed up for the day. We were supposed to promptly leave afterwards, but we'd stay and play our games, sneaking out mere minutes before we needed to meet roll call. Eventually, though, we were caught and banned from all the school's computer labs outside of class hours, all for feeding pixels to other pixels in Neopets and trying to tip icebergs in Club Penguin. Was it a fair punishment? Absolutely not. But was it worth it? Absolutely yes.

As the years passed, our school district figured out how to make web addresses inaccessible. Every passing day saw another blocked URL or a once-playable browser game gone to the wind, and we'd woefully pour out our Coca-Colas to mourn another fallen soldier. Then our school got really good at banning domains, and sites would be prohibited before you even knew they existed. Finding an unblocked game was like unearthing an ancient relic or winning the lottery; you kept it close to your vest, telling only your most trusted confidants. If word got out, the site could be inaccessible the next day.

These childhood memories come flooding back to me at the most random times, and it's usually in bits and pieces—or should I say, bytes and pixels. It's typically the minor assets that come flittering back to me in the most mundane moments: the vibrant colors of Robot Unicorn Attack or the simple block designs of World's Hardest Game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n-GvhmSMnU&ab_channel=Kuhneghetz

I've been thinking a lot about old, obscure titles from my childhood recently, trying to pull on a thread that's been tucked away in my psyche for nearly 20 years. But when discussing the good ol' days with the rest of the Destructoid staff, I was surprised to hear how my millennial coworkers had never even heard of what I'd considered legends of the early '00s Flash. Most of the browser games that spring to my memory were based on popular TV shows at the time on the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, or Cartoon Network—and I'm sure at least some of you know what I'm talking about.

Lilo & Stitch 625 Sandwich Stacker is an icon of its time. You control Experiment 625 with the goal of adding delectable ingredients to your sandwich and skillfully dodging trash—all while dollops of mustard and stinky shoes rain down from the sky. There were others I had forgotten about completely until I fell down the YouTube rabbit hole of old Flash games: Power Puff Girls Pillow Fight, Courage the Cowardly Dog's Creep TV, and whatever the hell Cartoon Cartoons: Summer Resort was.

Now I'm turning it over to you, Destructoid readers. How many of these games did you play growing up, or are there any other obscure early Flash games lost to the annals of time you'd like to share with the class? Let us know in the comments below so we can keep digging this rabbit hole deeper.

Four Boons, which are rectangular objects with various icons on them, in Fortnite

Fortnite Chapter Six, season three has lots of unique loot items you can find all around the island. Boons are one of the trickier ones to earn, but they're unique and possess strong buffs you can acquire.

Since finding Boons is fairly tough, you may be wondering how many different ones there are and what they're capable of. Here are all Boons and what they do in Fortnite Chapter Six, season three.

All Boons and what they do in Fortnite Chapter 6, season 3

There are four Boons you can earn in Fortnite Chapter Six, season three. It's possible that more may be added as the season progresses, and if they are, we'll add all additional ones here.

Boon Effect Rank S bonus effect
Combat Acrobat Boon Parkour partially reloads the weapon you're holding. The amount that's reloaded increases with each Hero Rank. Reloads all of your weapons.
Heightened Senses Boon All players who attack you are marked for a limited duration. The amount of time they're marked for increases with each Hero Rank. The timer cooldown is lowered.
Speed Healer Boon Grants the Slap effect after you sprint while using healing items. The duration of the Slap effect increases with each Hero Rank. Gain Slap immediately when using a healing item.
Storm Caller Boon Replenishes your shield while you're in the storm. The amount that's restored increases with each Hero Rank. Gives Storm Forecast.

All Boons in the Super season become stronger as you work on increasing your Hero Rank. Once you reach Hero Rank S, you activate a special bonus effect too. If you earn one after you've already reached Rank S, the bonus effect is activated right away.

Past seasons in Chapter Six had other Boons you could find, like the Vulture Boon and the Fire Boon, but all the older Boons are not present anymore. So far, the available Boons have changed each season, so the ones that are available now will likely be removed when Chapter Six, season three ends.

What are Boons in Fortnite Chapter 6, season 3?

Boons are essentially gameplay buffs that last until you perish each round. They're sort of similar to Medallions, but they don't mark your location on the map and have generally less powerful effects. Boon abilities are usually decent, but not complete game changers. Like Medallions, they also don't take up an inventory slot.

How to get Boons in Fortnite Chapter 6, season 3

Purchasing Heightened Senses Boon in Fortnite

Boons are a random loot item, which means there are many different ways you can find and acquire them around the island. Here are all of the different ways you can get Boons in Fortnite.

  • Opening chests.
  • Opening Hero Caches.
  • Purchasing them from behind locked doors at Academy Tech Labs.
  • Defeating Scout Spires.
  • Returning Sprites to Sprite Shrines.

Unlike all other loot items, Boons don't drop from players you defeat, so you'll never be able to pick them up using this method. You also can't drop a Boon once you've picked it up, so you'll have it until you perish. Looting or buying them is the only way you can acquire one, so focus on one of the previously mentioned methods to add one to your collection.

Fortnite Superman and Dash sprites

Fortnite's sprites are cute. Seeing them is always heartwarming, especially when new ones appear in passing seasons. During Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3: Super, we have Dash and Superman sprites. I didn't know adorable creatures in masks and capes would appear this season, but I'm certainly not complaining.

Here's how to find the Dash and Superman sprites.

How to find Dash and Superman Sprite in Fortnite

During Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3, you can find Dash and Superman Sprites as you travel around the map. They usually cluster around shrines, particularly near Supernova Academy, Shogun's Solitude, and Demon's Domain. If you're near a shrine, interact with it to pinpoint the exact locations of nearby sprites.

Superman Sprites resemble the water versions from the previous season. They're blue with Superman's signature 'S" on their chest to differentiate them from others around Fortnite's world. My go-to spot for finding them is south of Supernova Academy.

Superman Sprites have the power to shoot lasers out of their eyes. You can hold one, aim, and attack using this ability, dealing hefty damage to anyone within its range.

Dash Sprites, on the other hand, are bright gold with blue masks covering their faces. I found my first batch of them north of Shogun Solitude's shrine. If you're looking for a Dash Sprite, look for one that is yellow rather than blue.

To use a Dash Sprite, toss it onto the ground and wait for its AoE ability to activate. You'll notice small gold coin-like items surrounding your character, indicating your Dash charges. Now, you can dash forward by double-jumping.

Alternatively, you can return either Sprite type to a shrine. You'll get the Sprites back alongside various rewards ranging from weapons to consumables and Boons.

All Sprite Shrine locations in Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3

Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3 has 29 known Sprite Shrine locations you can visit. You can find them all over the map, except Crime City, Outlaw Oasis, and Shiny Shafts' region.

Here are some recommended spots to visit if you want easy access to shrines and Sprites:

  • Supernova Academy
  • Brutal Boxcars
  • Shogun's Solitude
  • South of Foxy Floodgate

Generally speaking, as long as you visit a shrine and interact with it, you can easily find Sprites nearby and track their exact spots.

Black Ops 7 key art work

Back in May 2023, Microsoft announced it had come to a deal to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo players.

It's two years later, nothing has happened just yet. With Black Ops 7 on the horizon and the Nintendo Switch 2 freshly launched, gamers are naturally curious when or if CoD will be hitting the latest Nintendo console.

The most recent CoD title on Nintendo was Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Wii U well over 10 years ago, so gamers are fiending for a chance to play the FPS franchise on Switch 2. It's now just a matter of when, not if, CoD will return.

Here's everything we know so far about Black Ops 7 coming to Switch 2.

Will BO7 be on Nintendo Switch 2?

As of now, there are no plans for BO7 to launch on Nintendo Switch 2. According to Activision, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is scheduled for release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and on PC via Xbox PC, Battle.net, and Steam," and is also playable day one on Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.

However, this could change at any time. According to Ethan Gach of Kotaku, "both Microsoft and Nintendo are still working on getting Call of Duty on the latter's hardware and will announce something in the future."

This doesn't mean BO7 will come to Switch 2, as it could allude to the fact that older CoD titles may be ported to the newest console. But for now, it remains to be seen whether or not the latest CoD game will hit the Switch 2.

This summer will be full of news regarding BO7 and the Switch 2, so there's plenty of time for an announcement regarding the game and console to be made leading up to BO7's launch this fall.

https://twitter.com/BradSmi/status/1629180356359495680

Considering that BO7 is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, it's highly likely that the game will be able to run on the Switch 2's hardware, considering that the new Nintendo console handheld hybrid's specs are similar to a PS4 Pro. Beyond that, though, it's all just speculation at this point.

Stay tuned, Nintendo and CoD gamers, we should have some concrete information sometime over the next few months leading into BO7's scheduled release in fall 2025.

Black Ops 7 BO7 logo

Surprise! A new Call of Duty game is coming out in 2025.

Not surprised? That's okay, nobody really is, but the fact that it's Black Ops 7 directly after Black Ops 6 is a bit surprising. This is the first consecutive release in the Black Ops series, following in the footsteps of Modern Warfare III that launched directly after Modern Warfare II a couple years back.

2025's CoD iteration will be heading into the near-future of 2035, a big departure from BO6's setting of the early 1990s, so expect some big changes when it comes to weaponry, aesthetics, setting, and more. But those aren't the only differences we can expect.

Here's everything we know so far about the latest CoD game, Black Ops 7.

Everything we know so far about BO7

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUo5gnaYB_w&pp=ygUMY2FsbCBvZiBkdXR5

Treyarch and Raven team up

Treyarch continues its streak of seemingly never-ending CoD development along with its duo in Raven Software. Black Ops 7 sees the two super-studios teaming up to co-lead development, along with a large number of other studios assisting in making the new title.

David Mason, BO2 sequel

The BO7 storyline will be a sequel to Black Ops 2, set in a near-future where android robots and a company called The Guild are at the forefront of the plot, teasing the events to come in Black Ops 3, which end up happening 30 years later.

"Developed as the next evolution of Black Ops, this is the first-ever consecutive release within the series, set more than 40 years after the events of Black Ops 6," Activision said. "The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. Wielding cutting-edge technology, David Mason and his team must fight back against a manipulative enemy who weaponizes fear above all else."

BO7 brings the Hollywood power as Milo Ventimiglia stars as Mason, while Kiernan Shipka will play the antagonist Emma Kagen, and Michael Rooker returns as BO2 star Mike Harper.

Co-op campaign is back in Black

A fan-favorite feature is finally back in BO7, allowing players to team up with friends to play the campaign in co-op. This used to be a franchise staple, and it's been scarce over the past few years, but it will be a welcome addition and change for those who like to squad up every chance they get.

Trippy butterfly mind tricks

Image via Activision

In the debut trailer, we see Mason seemingly hallucinating a blue butterfly and Raul Menendez, the antagonist of BO2, who died at the end of the game in its canon ending. Someone, likely Kagen and The Guild, is playing with his mind, which has been a recurring theme throughout the Black Ops franchise.

Evolved multiplayer

While nothing has been shown for BO7 multiplayer yet (that's coming later this summer), rumors have pointed to the game using an "evolved" version of BO6's omnimovement, now including wall-running and potentially wall-diving. Other rumors suggest that BO2 maps may be included and remade for BO7, similar to how MWIII used MW2 2009's maps as a base.

Activision, thus far, has only said that players can "harness near-future weaponry in a signature multiplayer experience packed with brand-new maps."

Zombies, Zombies, Zombies

BO7 Zombies teaser screenshot
Screenshot by Destructoid

A mysterious image at the end of the debut trailer shows everyone's favorite shambling undead. Zombies mode returns in BO7, with Activision describing it as the "next twisted chapter of Round-Based Zombies in the heart of the Dark Aether."

Blackout comeback?

BO7 Avalon wingsuit teaser
Screenshot by Destructoid

Another quick shot at the end of the debut trailer shows four players in wingsuits diving into what looks like Avalon, the long-rumored new battle royale map set in Europe. The wingsuits immediately evoke the imagery of the forgotten Blackout BR mode, which launched before Warzone alongside Black Ops 4.

A lot of Avalon is explorable in-game via going out of bounds on certain multiplayer maps, so it appears ready to take over as the next BR map. However, reliable leaker @TheGhostofHope has said that the tease is for the co-op campaign and that Avalon as a BR map has been scrapped and repurposed for the story mode.

Switch 2...maybe

Activision and Nintendo entered a 10-year agreement to bring CoD to the latter's platforms...but that was two years ago. And now, Switch 2 is not listed in BO7's current platforms. It's possible that it could come in the future, but for now, Nintendo gamers are still awaiting the franchise's arrival.

For now, it's only been confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and on PC, Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox PC.

Harley Quinn running under an Overlord Spire in Fortnite

Daigo's corruption is attempting to take over the island, and it's up to you to stop him in Fortnite. One of the primary ways you can combat this issue is by finding and damaging both Overlord Spires and Scout Spires.

These special Spires present pretty daunting combat challenges for you to tackle. Interacting with them is essential for various quests, and they also offer some fairly solid rewards for your efforts. Here's how to find and damage Overlord Spires and Scout Spires in Fortnite.

Where to find Overlord Spires in Fortnite

Overlord and Scout Spires marked on a map of the island in Fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid. Remix by Destructoid

Only one Overlord Spire appears on the island in each match, and it's marked on the map by a large white diamond-like icon surrounded by light purple mist. The precise location of the Overlord Spire varies in each round, so the only way to find it is to check the map. The icon is easy to spot once you know what you're looking for.

The Overlord Spire lands at the location marked on the map as soon as a player enters the nearby area. It might take a few seconds to fully land on the ground, but it always appears fairly quickly.

Where to find Scout Spires in Fortnite

Around five or so Scout Spires appear in each round, and they're all marked by a small diamond-like icon on the map. This icon has a similar shape to the Overlord Spire one, but a lot smaller. Scout Spires also spawn randomly across the island in each round, so you need to check the map to track them down.

How to damage Overlord Spires in Fortnite

Overlord Spires are the more dangerous and deadly combat trials of the two, so never approach this challenge without a solid collection of loot to back you up. Once you're ready to take it on, focus on aiming for the glowing yellow spots on the Spire. These are weak points that drain the Spires' health much more quickly.

Shooting an Overlord Spire in Fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Overlord Spire takes damage regardless of where you shoot at it, so just keep striking it with everything you've got until the health bar is depleted. It has a few protective measures you should watch out for, though, including a deadly laser that targets you and some demon guards who spawn in and fight to protect it. Consider fighting it with friends or purchasing a hireable NPC if you need some help taking it down.

How to damage Scout Spires in Fortnite

Scout Spires can be damaged by attacking any part of them, although aiming for the face is the best way to deal lots of damage quickly. The face is a weak point, so any attacks you aim at it will drain the health bar more quickly.

All Scout Spires are essentially smaller and weaker versions of the Overlord Spire, so if you've faced the latter, taking on these should be no challenge at all. These trials also have a laser attack, although it's much smaller, and demon guards who will appear to defend it.

What do Overlord Spires and Scout Spires drop in Fortnite?

Loot dropping from an Overlord Spire in Fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

The loot you get from Overlord Spires and Scout Spires generally varies in each match. Here's a breakdown of what types of items you can expect to earn for your efforts.

  • Overlord Spires always drop one Unstable Exotic Weapon and also usually drop some Legendary weapons, Epic weapons, consumables, ammo, and gold bars.
  • Scout Spires generally drop one Boon, some Epic weapons, ammo, and some consumables.

There's plenty more to get done this season, so when you're done battling Spires, you might move on to work on acquiring the Wingshot Grappler or finding and opening the Suitcase of Patience.

Fortnite Supernova Academy tech lab door

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3: Super's Kickstart quests are here to teach you about some new mechanics. During this season, you'll learn about Hero Ranks, superhero-themed locations, and new Sprites to make things more interesting.

At one of the season's new locations, Supernova Academy, you'll find locked lab doors containing special Hero Caches. However, opening these requires knowledge of Hero Ranks and the academy's layout. Let's dive into how to open Supernova Academy's tech lab doors in Fortnite.

Academy tech lab location in Fortnite

To complete Fortnite's "open locked doors in Academy Tech Labs while at Hero Rank A or above" Kickstart mission, you'll need to head to Supernova Academy and enter the southeast wing's basement. Here, you'll find several locked doors that, upon opening, will progress you through this quest as long as you're Hero Rank A or higher.

Fortnite Supernova Academy tech lab map location
Screenshot by Destructoid

How to open Supernova Academy tech labs in Fortnite

Opening Supernova Academy's tech lab doors requires increasing your Hero Rank. Some doors only need Rank C, while others are only accessible after leveling to Rank A. A-rank doors, in particular, are required for your Power Training Kickstart quests.

You'll know what ranks you need for each door by approaching them and checking their letters. If the letter in front is green, your rank is high enough to open it. Otherwise, you'll need to venture out into the world and increase it before returning to the academy.

Once you open one of Supernova Academy's tech lab doors, you'll have access to small shops, Hero Caches, and holograms containing special gear. You can easily find epic-grade or even legendary items behind these doors, especially if you reach A-rank and open multiple.

How to increase Hero Rank in Fortnite

Hero Rank is a feature in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 that lets you open powerful Hero Caches. Here are some ways to increase your Hero Rank:

  • Eliminate other players
  • Eliminate demon henchmen
  • Return Sprites to their shrines
  • Survive Storm Circles

As you survive in your rounds, eliminate other players, and help Sprites return to their shrines, you'll gradually increase your Hero Rank, letting you open Hero Caches and access Supernova Academy's tech lab doors. Your rank appears at the side of your screen and resets at the end of each match.
