Hear Game Music During NieR Summer Vacation – Request Hour

Square Enix announced it will hold a "NieR Summer Vacation – Request Hour" game music stream in honor of the series' 15th anniversary on YouTube on July 6, 2025. Keiichi Okabe and Yoko Taro confirmed they will appear during it. It will consist of two parts, with people able to request tracks for the portion starting at 2am ET/3pm JST via Niconico.

The first portion of the chat is called Drive DJ. That's the one in which will only involve music from the NieR series. The second part is when people associated with the series will appear at 6am ET/7pm JST. In addition to creator Yoko Taro and composer Keiichi Okabe appearing during that part, producer Yosuke Saito and designer Takahisa Taura will be present.

Here's the placeholder for the stream:

We'll hear NieR series music in another way soon too. Okabe and MONACA worked on Square Enix Vocal Covers: Timeless Classics, which debuted on June 25, 2025 in Japan. That featured "Weight of the World" from NieR: Automata and "Kaine / Salvation" from NieR Replicant and Gestalt.

NieR first appeared on the PS3 and Xbox 360, with the Replicant release showing up on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. NieR: Automata is available on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Windows PC, and the anime adaptation is streaming via Crunchyroll

Transformers Macross 7 Basara Prime Figure Pre-orders About to Open

Back in January 2025, Takara Tomy announced it would make a crossover Basara Prime Synergenex Transformers figure of Optimus Prime fused with the Macross 7 Fire Valkyrie (VF-19 Excalibur Custom). Its latest social media update shared a better look at a color prototype of the figure and confirmed the Japanese pre-order date. Orders will open on July 3, 2025, ahead of a debut set for the 2025-2026 Winter period.

The Basara Prime figure is holding a guitar weapon. It is in a pose that makes it look like it is "playing" it with its left hand and pointing with its right. The pose almost calls to mind Basara Nekki's in Macross 7. No transformations are shown, so it's unknown what sorts of other poses or options could appear. This is the Macross 7 30th anniversary figures that's been promised since 2024.

There are multiple crossover Transformers figures out there in the Synergex crossover series, especially involving Optimus Prime. A Rathalos Prime Monster Hunter one is a good example. Multiple Zoids ones came up. Optimus Prime Type MFS-3 Kiryu and Megatron Type Godzilla showed up for the 70th anniversary of the Godzilla series.

The Basara Prime Synergenex Transformers Macross 7 crossover action figure pre-orders will open on July 3, 2025, and the release is planned for the coming Winter season.

Magic the Gathering Sonic the Hedgehog Secret Lair Cards

Wizards of the Coast announced the next Magic the Gathering video game crossover will involve Sonic the Hedgehog Secret Lair cards. Those will debut at 9am PT/12pm ET on July 14, 2025. Three sets will be available, and there will be $29.99 standard and $39.99 foil versions.

We don't know how all the cards in the series will look. We do know what all three sets will include, however. Each one includes seven cards. Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes will feature new card designs and art with Amy Rose, Dr. Eggman, Knuckles the Echidna, Miles "Tails" Prower, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Super State. The other two involve new takes on existing art with characters and references to the game series. The Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear set will feature Hammer of Nazahn as "Piko Piko Hammer," Lightning Greaves as "Power Sneakers," Myr Battlesphere as "Egg Hammer," Myr Token as "Egg Pawn," The Reaver Cleaver as "Knuckles's Gloves," Swiftfoot Boots as "Air Shoes," and Weatherlight as "Tornado, Sonic's Biplane." The Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure features Deadly Dispute, Fabricate, Generous Gift, Open the Armory, Sol Ring, Treasure Token, and Unexpected Windfall.

The last video game crossover for Magic the Gathering ended up being especially notable. A whole Final Fantasy set appeared covering every entry in the series. This included Secret Lair drops.

The Sonic the Hedgehog Secret Lair Magic the Gathering cards will appear on July 14, 2025.

Good weekend, Destructoid! I am typing this fast before I need to rush out for a busy couple of days of walking and gaming, so let's cut to the chase and discuss what our plans are for the weekend!

A fair bit is going on, but for the majority of trainers out there, there is one big unskippable event taking place that'll give people a lot to do. If you aren't into that, though, there are a handful of other games worth checking out.

Pokémon Go Fest 2025: Global is happening from 10am until 6pm local time and you know that's where I'll be spending most my time trying to get all the Shiny Pokémon possible and tick some things off my living dex checklist, but I'm aware the game isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Outside of that, some huge games have been released this week, like Death Stranding 2, and the weekend is the perfect opportunity to begin the grind there and see what the game is like and if the buzz surrounding it is real or not.

It's a good weekend to be into indie games as well, with PEAK, Ruffy and the Riverside, and plenty of other titles still around for anyone looking for something a bit more casual to pass their time. I also know a few gamers locked into Persona 5: The Phantom X, but the gacha mechanic and other aspects of the game don't cut it for me. I'd prefer to wait for a full-blooded sequel than this phone game made bigger than it should be.

Elden Ring: Nightreign also apparently got new content I'll need to find time to check out when I can get a few group of friends together, though I'm still waiting on the future duos update to be able to play it with my brother instead of hooking up with randoms all the time.

So there is plenty to be played this weekend, but let me know in the comments what your plan is!

Scopely is giving trainers four unique codes in Pokémon Go that'll let you get a boost towards certain Pokémon forms during Pokémon GO Fest 2025: Global.

These codes give you energy usable on Zacian or Zamazenta that'll help you towards unlocking their new forms if you are lucky enough to find and be able to battle both of them, for the remaining energy you'll need.

Free Crowned Sword and Crowned Shield Energy codes in Pokémon Go

https://twitter.com/PokemonGoApp/status/1937511150108692907

Four codes give you either 100 Crowned Sword energy or Crowned Shield in Pokémon Go. These codes are only active for Pokémon Go Fest 2025: Global, so you need to make the most of the next few days to claim them all.

After signing in to your account, these codes are redeemed via the Pokémon Go Web Store. The four codes are:

  • WTQHZUTXMJY2U
  • EFKN5A2ZJDLS3
  • DJDGC3XBBCSC8

You'll be able to get more energy on August 28- 29 by battling in Zacian and Zamazenta raids, and you will need 1,000 total of each energy type to turn one of your Zacian or Zamazenta into their crowned forms. These forms are permanent when used and also have additional adventure effects, which either boost the attack or defense of your Pokémon when in Max Battles.

You are given a random amount of energy after each battle, but usually, you need to complete 10+ raids to get the 1,000 energy needed. This is all very helpful in the grand scheme of things, allowing you to be in one less raid.

Both Pokémon can appear as Shiny, though, which should make all the raiding a bit more bearable. We imagine raiding the duo will also be a part of the global questline. So there will be reasons for you to get involved, so long as you can find a party of players to fight against. If not, remote raiding will be your friend this upcoming weekend.

kelfki go fest 2025

Like with most Pokémon Go Fests, 2025 Global has a bunch of event-exclusive Field Research tasks for you to find throughout the weekend, all with their unique rewards.

These can range from giving you a chance at catching one of the many new costumed Pokémon, giving you a series of helpful items like Poké Balls, or giving you some Candy themed around Pokémon like Zacian and Zamazenta.

There are quite a few tasks you can find when you spin Poké Stops, and depending on what you are looking to achieve or catch, some might be more useful than others. So here is a full list of all the different types available to give you the best chance at getting exactly what you are looking for.

Every event exclusive Field Research task and reward for Pokémon Go Fest 2025 Global

As most of the Field Research tasks are obvious, we have excluded some of the rewards that only offer Candy and instead have focused on the specific encounter rewards, so trainers know what Pokémon they will encounter if they finish it in case they are after a specific Pokémon they need for their collections or to find as a Shiny.

Some of the tasks below could give different rewards, but if you find the one with a special hidden encounter, this is what you'll get.

Note: This article is being updated.

Field Research Task Field Research Reward
Win a Raid Falinks Encounter
Catch 8 different species of Pokémon One of three different Pikachu encounters
Catch 6 Fire-type Pokémon Golett Encounter
Power up Fire-type Pokémon 6 times Carbink Encounter

It's Pokémon Go Fest 2025 Global time, and with it, this special research asks you once again to carve out a path for yourself through a handful of options. But which is the best to pick?

In the GO Fest 2025: Hero's Journey Special Research tree, you are tasked with choosing to go down the Crowned Sword Journey or the Crowned Shield Journey. Picking either of these tasks will help you to get one of the two Crowned Pokémon of either Zacian or Zamazenta, but it doesn't lock you to only one, as you can get the other via doing raids throughout the weekend.

In my opinion, there is one choice worth going for more than the rest of them, but let's first show you what the choices are, and then I'll direct you where I think you should go.

Is it better to go Crowned Sword or Crowned Shield in GO Fest 2025: Hero's Journey in Pokémon Go

https://twitter.com/PokemonGoApp/status/1938251234432933954

Choosing the Crowned Sword Journey will have you focus more on Zacian in Pokémon Go, while choosing the Crowned Shield Journey will have you focus on Zamazenta. The main changes this makes to the rewards you get are mainly related to Candy around the two Pokémon, with all of the rewards remaining the same.

Choosing the Crowned Sword journey will have you focus on Fairy-type Pokémon for some of the tasks, whereas the Crowned Shield focuses on Fighting-type Pokémon instead. So the choice comes down to you.

Look at what habitat you are in. If you are getting Fairy-type spawns, maybe go down the Sword Path if you want to speedrun the tasks to get them out of the way. But in my opinion, the tasks are better suited to personal circumstances.

If you only plan to play Saturday, for example, you'll miss out on Zacian raids on Sunday, so choose the Crowned Shield path to get what you need for the Zamazenta raids currently spawning that day. You don't get a Zacian or Zamazenta encounter when doing all the tasks, so you don't want to pick a path for a Pokémon you won't be able to catch, unless you already have one.

Either way, picking either option won't have you miss out on much if you plan to play the whole weekend and go all in on raids to try to find enough Energy to change the forms of both Pokémon. So take whichever path you like.

So honestly, pick what you want, but if I had to choose. I'm going to go the Crowned Sword Journey path so I can get both Crowned forms of Zacian and Zamazenta on the same day and enjoy my Sunday focusing on Shiny Pokémon. But you might have different goals from mine.

TL:DR; Picking the Crowned Sword path focuses on Zacian and gives you 1000 Crowned Sword Energy, while picking the Crowned Shield path gives you 1000 Crowned Shield Energy and focuses on Zamazenta.

Dracula Blade Marvel Rivals art

Marvel Rivals' season three begins in two weeks, and it appears we now have official confirmation of which heroes will be joining the roster when it arrives, thanks to a leak from streaming site Twitch.

The whoopsie came as part of a new blog post about Twitch's "Summer Drops Fest," highlighting viewership rewards across a variety of games. One of those games is Marvel Rivals, and the description given spills the beans.

Phoenix/Jean Grey as she appears in Marvel Contest of Champions
Image via Kabam Games, Inc.

"Phoenix and Blade ignite the action in Marvel Rivals Season 3: The Abyss Awaken!" the blog post reads, pointing to new Twitch Drops for Hawkeye beginning on July 11. "Get ready for all-new team-ups, stunning Venomized costumes, and sizzling summer events that will turn up the heat. Don't miss out—tune in to Marvel Rivals on Twitch for exclusive drops and dive into this epic new chapter!"

If you've been paying attention to the game's lore over the past few months, the two new heroes should come as no surprise. Blade first appeared in season one as a victim of Dracula who's been resting up until he disappeared from one of the maps recently, and the ending of season two's lore hinted heavily at Phoenix coming to the game.

What's most disappointing to me, however, is that from data mines in the past, both heroes were listed as Duelists. Yes, more damage-dealing heroes, in a roster that's already chock full of them. The role distribution has been Duelist-heavy since launch, and now it's just getting worse.

Currently, the game's roster has 10 Vanguards and nine Strategists...and a whopping 20 Duelists. That uneven distribution is about to get even worse, if the roles have not changed since past data mines. Marvel Rivals is about to get straight up tumultuous, with new heroes and seasons launching every single month. I really think it's going to be a balancing nightmare, and I'm curious to see how if at all it effects the game's playerbase, especially after seasonal launches bring people back.

Season three of Marvel Rivals, and its two new Duelist heroes, are set to arrive on July 11. With today's error by Twitch, I'd expect the official confirmation of season three to becoming pretty soon. If nothing else, the Venomized and summer skins should be awesome.

Pokémon Go Fest 2025 Global has a bunch of hourly habitats that spawn different Pokémon, and with it, Scopely has prepared a bunch of Collection Challenges around these Pokémon, with each one having a unique reward for ticketed trainers to unlock.

You have the whole weekend to complete them, but it's best to try and get them out of the way as soon as possible so you can then focus on the Shiny Pokémon, raids, or activities you want to commit to.

Some trainers might want to skip them completely, though, if the rewards aren't that great, which is where we come in. We have listed all the Habitat Collection Challenges below so you can see what you need to catch, and what the rewards are, to see if it's worth your time.

kelfki go fest 2025

If you have bought a ticket for Pokémon Go Fest 2025: Global, you'll notice a little note on the paid ticket that says you have increased shiny odds, without the game giving you any indication of what those increased odds actually are.

And while you can find shiny Pokémon during Go Fest without paying for the ticket, you'll find significantly fewer Shiny Pokémon compared to those who paid for the privilege of finding more. Granted, finding a Shiny Pokémon is no guarantee.

So what exactly are these increased shiny odds Scopely seems keen to sell you on, without telling you the exact details?

What are the odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon at Go Fest 2025: Global?

There is no way of telling the exact shiny rate odds during the event, as Scopely doesn't publicly reveal them, which feels pretty off to sell odds you aren't even being told what they are. The community, however, has crafted a list over the years of estimated shiny odds, which helps us to get an idea for this upcoming event.

The estimated shiny odds for the Global event are estimated at 1 in 128, meaning for every 128 encounters, you have a single chance of finding a Shiny Pokémon. As for the raids, such as Zacian and Zamazenta, you have an estimated shiny odds rate of 1 in 20, with the other Pokémon like Pikachu and Falinks costumes being closer to one in 38.

They aren't great odds, as the likelihood of finding that many Pokémon over the weekend in the 16-hour total event is slim pickings, especially if you are after a handful of specific pocket monsters from the large pool. Some Pokémon will only spawn 2 hours each day, and the chances of finding it, let alone as a shiny, are increasingly difficult. So if you are going into Global Go Fest hoping to find only a couple of things, prepare for potential disappointment.

Every Pokémon apart from Klefki will be available as a Shiny during Global Go Fest, so even if you don't find the one Shiny Pokémon you are looking for, hopefully, something will come up instead. I'll be going after Morelull and Skiddo myself, so best of luck, trainers!

Donkey Kong DK Bananza Banana Eyes

It's hard to believe that 2025 is halfway over, but there's still plenty of big game releases to look forward to before the calendar flips over once more.

Looking back on June 2025, there were several solid new releases, including a whole new console in the Nintendo Switch 2. Mario Kart World, Rematch, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, The Alters, and FBC: Firebreak were just some new titles that players had the chance to dive into this month. But now, we look ahead.

July 2025 is full of some big-name games, along with some promising new IPs that players are hoping will fulfill their potential and become a new smash hit. But with so many games and so little time, choices must be made as to which ones get your money and attention.

Whether you're a sporty gamer and looking to pick up Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 (July 8) or EA Sports College Football 26 (July 10), or an FPS fan and want to dive into Destiny 2: Edge of Fate (July 15) or Killing Floor 3 (July 24), July 2025 has just about every kind of gamer covered.

We'd be remiss if we didn't mention Donkey Kong Bananza on July 17, or the Pacman-inspired Shadow Labryinth on July 18, so even nostalgic gamers are going to be eating well. And if you're into some of the more cozy stuff, Tales of the Shire is dropping on July 29, the same day as Grounded 2. Basically, there's a lot of fun games in the month to choose from.

These games are all on top of existing titles getting new updates and live service content, like season three of Marvel Rivals, season five of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and many others, so if you're looking to avoid the rising temperatures and pump up the air conditioning while playing something new, July 2025 may be stacked.

And now, I ask you, dear reader, which of July 2025's new games are you most looking forward to picking up?
