The shutdown of The Crew's online servers was contentious to say the least, helping to kickstart the Stop Killing Games campaign. But now, thanks to a group of dedicated modders, The Crew is revving up for a return with a new, albeit unofficial, version.

The Dying Light The Beast system requirements have just dropped, and they feature both the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 and AMD Radeon RX 9070, but thankfully only at the ultra tier, for those chasing 4K, 60fps performance while using the highest graphical settings.

Generally speaking, you won't need the very fastest options from our best graphics card guide to get great performance in Dying Light The Beast, but developer Techland has listed everything you'll need across a variety of graphical presets and resolutions.

One of the most powerful upcoming rivals to the Steam Deck, the GPD Win 5, is set to launch in just a few weeks time, but its maker is already showcasing an experimental new feature that it hopes will make it lighter and easier to use. In a recent video, GPD has shown off a new battery extension cable for the gaming handheld that allows you to detach the battery to make the device lighter and easier to use.

Unusual battery options aside, this AMD Strix Halo-powered GPD handheld looks set to take portable power to a new level with specs that easily best those of any other model on our best handheld guide. There's already been an GPD Win 5 performance teaser showing it playing Black Myth Wukong with a high and steady frame rate, and we were impressed by the same 16-core AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 CPU that this handheld uses in our Asus ROG Flow Z13 review, but we'll still have to wait and see just how well the Win 5 performs ourselves.

The Ninja Gaiden 4 system requirements are a little confusing when it comes to the notes on performance and upscaling, possibly due to a translation issue, but we can see that the technology has indeed been used, and it is a slight mark against what are otherwise fairly straightforward specs.

While you won't need any of the best graphics card picks from our buying guide to run Ninja Gaiden 4, it's hard to say exactly which cards you'll need to run the game at the native resolution of your gaming monitor, given that upscaling has been used to determine the current specs. Upscaling in system requirements is a topic I've touched on before, and don't agree with, but at least we know exactly which technology is being used here, and the level of upscaling that has been applied.

If you were to ask me whether I'm a first-person or third-person kinda guy when it comes to open-world RPGs, I'd reply that The Road to El Dorado answered it on my behalf 25 years ago: "Both is good." Yes, the immersion of the hero's perspective is a core tenet of the experience, but I equally appreciate the extra awareness I'm granted during combat with the camera sat at my back. It's been a topic of debate for time immemorial, but I'd always advocate that giving the player the choice between the two where possible is the best way to go about it. While The Outer Worlds took the traditional first-person approach, The Outer Worlds 2 has expanded its options, offering a third-person toggle. Obsidian's decision to dangle both carrots mimics what it did with Avowed earlier this year, and as game director Brandon Adler and creative director Leonard Boyarsky tell Jamie at Gamescom, The Outer Worlds 2 team wouldn't have added the option if their hand wasn't forced internally.

What are the Silksong bosses? Pharloom is teeming with bugs of all shapes and sizes, but some are undoubtedly creepier and crawlier than others. Like Hollow Knight before it, Silksong's combat is deceptively punishing, but we've got the boss strategies you need to beat all the main and optional bosses without losing all your masks.

Bosses are a staple of Metroidvania games, and we know that Hollow Knight Silksong will have its fair share of challenges for Hornet. According to Team Cherry, there are over 40 bosses to beat in Silksong, which isn't far off from the 47 bosses that appeared in Hollow Knight. On that basis, we expect Silksong to feature around 15 main bosses and at least 25 optional bosses to find and beat across the Hollow Knight Silksong map.

It looks like Nvidia is cutting back on Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti stock. A new rumor suggests that the chipmaker is reducing the number of GPUs that its board partners can request, with the RTX 5060 reportedly most affected.

The RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti both make up a key part of the entry-level lineup of Nvidia GPUs. The RTX 5060 Ti, in particular, has done enough to earn a spot on our best graphics card list, but only in its more expensive 16GB form. Instead, we've found both Nvidia and AMD's cards with 8GB of VRAM have struggled in some gaming tests, making them less compelling options. While this stock reduction rumor is still just that, a cut back on production would seem to suggest that these GPUs haven't just struggled in reviewer testing but proved to be less popular with buyers than Nvidia hoped too.

A new Intel gaming CPU with a massive 52 cores has just been hinted at in a shipping manifest, just a week after a 28-core model was seen elsewhere. That core count far outstrips anything we've seen from Intel's current Arrow Lake lineup, with its current Core Ultra 285K flagship capping out at just 24 cores.

A huge core count doesn't necessarily lead to epic gaming performance, however, and it's far too early to say whether or not these Intel Nova Lake CPUs will be contenders on our best gaming CPU guide. Nonetheless, the numbers here are striking. By our estimation, we'd expect this CPU to have a maximum of 16 Performance cores (P-Cores), which are the important ones for gaming, leaving 32 Efficiency cores (E-Cores) for multi-threaded work, with potentially four additional low-power (LP) E-cores left for background tasks. That's some serious multi-threaded processing power.

My name is Lauren Bergin (there's a middle name in there, but I don't know you that well), and, as you can likely tell, my heritage is Norwegian - I would say that they named a city after my family, but unfortunately it's spelled differently. As a result, I love all things Nordic, and Valheim fits neatly into that box. While the survival genre as a whole doesn't really interest me, Iron Gate's Viking adventure stands as one of its pillars, and having played it once or twice, it's easy to see why. But, back in the beginning, Valheim wasn't supposed to be a survival game; instead, it was a battle royale akin to Apex Legends or, my personal favorite, WoW's Plunderstorm. Imagine how different the gaming world would be.

Is Hell is Us on Game Pass? Rogue Factor's moody-looking action game is out now and has one big selling point. The game has no in-game map, no quest markers, and no waypoints. You're left to your own devices to figure out what you need to do and where you need to go.

Therefore, the action-adventure game is not going to be to everyone's liking. It'd be great if players could test Hell is Us on Game Pass, so that they don't have to commit to paying full price for it. Fallout 76's latest patch is following up the addition of fishing in the only way that's natural. Bethesda have opted to revamp its base building mechanics in an effort to make thing easier for newbies and offer veterans some extra freedom to stick huge shacks full of stuff together in different ways.

For Patch 62, dubbed 'C.A.M.P revamp', menus have been rejigged and placement restrictions relaxed in an effort to have you spend 60 more hours slapping bits of wood into accomodation, rather than going off and ruining some super mutant's day. Then again, I can't imagine the green folks are too happy about the wasteland being turned into a showroom of properties that'd probably cost several million quid despite the fact they can barely keep the radiation out, such are modern house prices.

Vapourware! We all say we despise it, but everybody loves thinking about games that spend an eternity in limbo, whether due to chronic mismanagement or simply because the developers feel no need to rush. So many teasers to unravel, so many conspiracies to bake from the most ludicrous of breadcrumbs, so much delicious exasperation to wallow in as yet another year goes by without a new trailer. Hollow Knight: Silksong is no longer vapourware, barring some extreme last-minute drama. Announced in 2019, it will finally launch this Thursday 4th September. To mark the occasion, we of the Treehouse have been chatting about our favourite examples of vapourware, if "favourite" is the right word.

Your contributions are very welcome. A question of terminology for the physicists in the comments: what should we call a vapourware game that has actually released? Condensedware? I await your complex mathematical explanations. In the meantime, here's James.

Shift Up announced the 2025 Tetra Golden Coin Goddess of Victory: NIKKE event and revealed the two new bunny girl characters debuting during it are the SSRs Ade: Agent Bunny and Milk: Blooming Bunny. It also confirmed new themed costumes for Bay and Rouge called Bay: Radiant Rabbit and Rouge: Unlucky Rabbit. She's a Supporter who deals Iron damage and is from Tetra Line, and she uses a sniper rifle called The Agent. Milk: Blooming Bunny's banner runs September 11-October 2, 2025. She also deals Iron damage and is a Tetra Line unit, though she is an Attacker. Her gun is a sniper rifle called Shy Rabbit. Both will appear in the Ordinary Recruit and Social Point Recruit gacha banners and from Mold items after their focus banners end.

With the two new Goddess of Victory: NIKKE bunny girl costumes, they're available via two different means. The Radiant Rabbit one for Bay is only going to be in a paid Cheer Bunny Pass. That will be available between September 4-23, 2025, and you get the outfit with voice acting if you complete it. The Unlucky Rabbit skin for Rouge will be in the costume gacha. That will run through September 4-23, 2025 as well. The returning outfits that will appear this year in the Cash Shop are Folkwang: Moist Rabbit, Mary: Medical Rabbit, and Viper: Toxic Rabbit.

As for the 2025 Tetra Golden Coin, it is called Coins in Rush. Its first part starts September 4, 2025, right after the update, and the second half kicks off on September 11, 2025. The event as a whole ends on September 23, 2025. There will be a Challenge Stage and MADE IN RUSH Ade minigame too.

Seed Steps Up in Zenless Zone Zero Anime Video and Trailers

When the 2.2 update for Zenless Zone Zero arrives this week, Seed will debut on the first banner, and the latest anime style videos and trailer all focus on her. These are all personality-driven pieces that don't focus on actual in-game movesets, though we do see her fight alongside Seed Sr in "White Scooter Demon."

The first of the three Seedvideos to appear is called "Love, Death & Constructs." It is also the longest at over seven minutes long. It features Seed Sr finding Seed Jr for the first time in a Hollow. It showed how the two connected and she developed after being orphaned. This is the first anime-style short film.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LENKDAuyIwc

The second Zenless Zone Zero Seed video is the "White Scooter Demon" character demo. That featured her handling a group of enemies on an Obol Squad mission.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVudzVUiBBQ

The last Zenless Zone Zero video is about Obol Squad as a whole. It features the crew enjoying a day off, with Seed hanging out with Soldier 11, Trigger, and Orphie with Magus. This is the other recent animated feature.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKJj_AUOMTY

As a reminder, Seed is an S-rank Agent. She is an Attack character who deals Electric damage to opponents.

Zenless Zone Zero is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices, and the Seed banner will run between September 4-24, 2025.

Sanrio Character Friends 4 Figures Wear Halloween Costumes mascot merchandise

Sanrio and Bandai Namco announced one of the latest Bandai Candy figure sets is a Sanrio Characters Friends 4 collection of mascot merchandise in costumes ahead of Halloween. This is going to show up in Japan starting on September 8, 2025. Each box will cost 320円 (~$2). However, these types of items can show up on Amazon or in Asian grocery stores worldwide after launch, so it is possible we'll see them everywhere.

As is common with these items, each one comes with a piece of gum and a small plastic figure. They are not blind box items. You will know exactly which character you will get when you find the boxes. However, it may be possible that certain ones could be more difficult to find than others.

Here's the full list of every mascot in the Sanrio Characters Friends 4 collection of candy figures, as well as a description of their Halloween style costume.

  • Cinnamoroll as Cupid.
  • Hangyodon as a doctor.
  • Hello Kitty as a nurse.
  • Kuromi as a witch.
  • My Melody as a nurse.
  • Pochacco in a three-piece suit with cobwebs on the hat.
  • Pompompurin as a jester.
  • Tuxedosam as a ghost.

Of the eight designs, Tuxedosam is the only one that glows in the dark after being exposed to light.

Here are the official photos of all the Bandai Candy figures.

This isn't the only Halloween theme Sanrio character merchandise to appear. There's also the official 2025 line, which involved black cat, ghost, and gothic outfits.

The Sanrio Characters Friends 4 of candy figures will appear in Japan on September 8, 2025, and we don't know when (or if) this merchandise might appear worldwide.

New Mai Shiranui Fatal Fury Figure Based on Her Hidden Gear

FREEing shared its Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Mai Shiranui figure based on her classic costume and Hidden Gear, and it confirmed she'll debut in June 2026. This estimated release date is for Japan, though Good Smile Company often handles the release of that studio's items worldwide. She will cost ¥39,600 (~$268).

This figure of the character will be larger than usual. It's a 1/4 scale, which means it should be about 16 inches tall (~400mm). To compare, the non-standard Pop Up Parade one is just over six inches tall and Kotobukiya Bishoujo 1/7 statue is over eight inches tall.

In Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Mai Shiranui ended up with a new outfit, but her classic costume returns for her Hidden Gear attack Ouran no Mai: Akasuzumi. This figure recreates the exact pose that comes up once the attack lands and she starts to assault her opponent. There are no additional parts or accessories to adjust its appearance.

Here's how it looks:

To compare, that exact pose comes up at about the 35 second mark of her introduction trailer for the game. So you can see it below and see how FREEing referenced that look and attack for this item.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRgsu-Cn5fs

The FREEing Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Mai Shiranui figure will debut in Japan in June 2026, and we should see it worldwide after. That game is on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Pokemon Fishing lures - Pikachu with iron tail

Duo International has announced that it will restock its Pokemon Fishing lures in November 2025. The company also revealed a brand-new lure featuring Pikachu with an Iron Tail that will join the lineup.

The new Iron Tail Pikachu lure will be available at 3,190 yen (~$21.50). It will be slightly more expensive than the regular Pikachu jitterbug lures that cost 2,970 yen (~$20). And while the regular lures are available in three different facial expressions, the Iron Tail Pikachu will only have a serious face.

For the record, Duo first launched the Pokemon Fishing lures in 2021. It initially made lures modeled after the franchise icon Pikachu and the Pokemon Sapphire legendary mascot Kyogre, the latter of which cost 5,390 yen (~$36.25). Two years later, in 2023, the company added a crank-type lure based on Koduck, which is better known in English releases as Psyduck, at 2,750 yen (~$18.50).

Duo International also added cautions on its official website that parts of the Pokemon in the lures may wear off when they are frequently used and hit other objects, such as Pikachu's ears, Psyduck's hair, or the red lines on Kyogre's wings.

The Pokemon Fishing lures will be available for sale again in Japan in November 2025.

Review: Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion Feels More Personal

While I really enjoyed gameplay in the original Daemon X Machina, it struck me as so impersonal. I didn't feel all that special. I was just another one of Orbital's Outer mercs dealing with the Immortal enemies in my Arsenal mech. Honestly? It meant I lost my motivation to play sometimes. Things are much more personal in Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion from its opening moments and that, combined with some really enjoyable exploration elements and missions, made the experience worlds better. If a Switch 2 owner is looking for a follow-up game to play after Xenoblade Chronicles X, this is it.

If you're returning to the series, some of the concepts are going to feel familiar. Immortal enemies still exist. Outers who have special abilities due to Femto energy are present, and they live in the Garden space ship above the planet. (Ordinary humans are on the planet below.) Arsenals exist naturally, with folks on both sides piloting those mechs. However, if you are new to Daemon X Machina, do not worry. This is such an easy game to get into, and it quickly introduces you to its world and combat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PBUqSBwyWE

That difference between the Outers and the Humans is part of the impetus for the whole story. Our avatar is an Outer named Nova who served on the Garden with the Sovereign Axiom Neun unit and was about to be unethically tampered with. Nova's childhood friend Nerve found out and saved them. The two tried to make a break for it, but when faced with an overwhelming enemy got separated. Nerve sacrificed himself so Nova could get away, and once on Ground Nova's new goal is to get back to Garden to return the favor. This means being recruited into the Human revolutionary faction known as the Reclaimers by Forge and taking on missions and fights to be able to get back. Again, it's really designed to make you feel not only important, but like you're starting to become part of a community.

I adored the Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion story. I absolutely fell in love with its themes and characters. Even some of the enemies are fascinating or just generally super cool due to who they are and their abilities, like Gaze and Legion. The introduction, which gets us involved in the whole conflict and sets up the relationship with Nerve, is so fantastic that I played for three hours straight my whole session because I liked Nerve and Forge so much. My biggest issue with the original Daemon X Machina is that I didn't feel connected enough to its world and motivated to fight for the cause, and that is absolutely never an issue here. Here, I get to be surrounded by other people and accompanied by NPC allies who help enlighten me about details about the factions, themselves, and the world as we travel together. And, since I can choose how I respond to them in certain situations, it even offers the sort of idea that they "value" me.

The customization elements are absolutely fantastic too. And they keep coming up in different ways. Things start with a very comprehensive avatar designer that lets you decide exactly how Nova appears. Once you get to the Fort's base, you can adjust the colors and patterns on your Arsenal, as well as apply decals and make them to further enhance it. When you get new armor and weapons, your mech changes when those are equipped. We can equip all sorts of weapons, mapped to the left and right triggers, left trigger, and Y button. It's possible to mix and match ranged and melee, as well as projectiles. After you take down boss Immortals, it can mean getting genes you can activate at the base to get new skills, changing your appearance and gaining active and passive abilities in the process. And since you're constantly finding equipment, growing in levels to enhance your capabilities, unlocking extra customization items like decals and patterns, and able to pay to reset your body after activating and equipping skills, you can basically change your entire identity and loadout at any time. While the original game did offer similar sorts of customization, it just feels like Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion goes above and beyond to let me get personal and fight my way.

Once you are settled, you set out into a rather open world filled with Immortals. You might happen upon items to gather, caves to explore, or other points of interest. I'd say Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is comfortably full of things to gather, but I did feel Xenoblade Chronicles X ended up offering more points of interest and variety. It isn't as populated in terms of landmarks or really diverse enemies in the same way. Like the Nintendo title felt like a genuine ecosystem, while this is frequently sending similar sorts of Immortals and Sovereign Axiom or stray humanoids at me. Still, I loved how environments embrace verticality, making it enjoyable to explore upwards and around myself. This also meant taking flight while fighting is easy. Happening upon mounts also ended up being quite fun. And again, being able to attack while riding is helpful. But if you don't want to fly, run, or ride through expanses, fast travel is really easy to unlock and features lots of convenient hubs.

Said fights are really great and, while you do need to keep in mind so many buttons tied to so many attacks, abilities, and items, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion isn't all that complicated. The tutorials are quite handy, and we're given so many ways to approach combat. I liked to equip melee weapons to RT and LT, with a ranged gun on LB. I didn't want to become too reliant on Immortal genes, so I took care with fusion. It's easy to lock-on to enemies, then swap between opponents. Aiming is quite easy with ranged weapons, and projectiles are so fantastic if you find grenades. I also loved that all the melee weapons feel different, so I quickly equipped a heavier, slower-moving mace for the bigger opponents and lighter swords and lances for faster foes. Also, whether it's a small or large space, it is very easy to keep track of the bad guys who are against you and retaliate.

I will say I did notice some Switch 2 Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion minor technical hiccups. If an enemy is far away from you, their framerate decreases and movement looks awkward. When driving in a car, gravity can feel like a suggestion, it sometimes felt like the world around me struggled to keep up with that speed, and again I noticed some framerate awkwardness. The stylistic direction of the character models, Immortals, and environments do mean that even if you are playing in handheld mode, it still looks pretty good and impressive. I also noticed that in two later fights with an overwhelming number of opponents, the congestion and situation didn't feel as responsive and easy to watch as earlier altercations. But then, I also played primarily in handheld mode on the Switch 2, and that could also affect things.

As for the online, I can't speak to how well it does or doesn't work. I actually didn't get to play with anyone during my time with Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion on the Switch 2. I will say that I did see a lot of people's bodies, though. If you are connected to the internet, you can see the fallen and loot their bodies. Most often, I only got Femto or ammo out of it, but it could be helpful.

With Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, it feels like Marvelous is really trying to let us create the mech experience we want and loadout we want in a world that needs us. I feel like the interactions between characters and storytelling are so much stronger here, and because of that I wanted to spend more taking on both large and small quests. I felt pulled into the world even more than before, thanks to the ambiance and lore around me, and the ability to really adjust every part of my mech made it easy for me to survive and thrive. On Switch 2 I will say that Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion might occasionally have a few moments, especially if undocked, but I could see that being fixed with patches and they're minor.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion will come to the Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on September 5, 2025, and a demo is available.

The Synanceia sword from Heavy Metal in Destiny 2, with a huge hilt.

Destiny 2 is adding Synanceia, a new Eager Edge sword in Solar flavor. This limited-time weapon comes with a couple of unique rolls for utility and even damage, but the fact that it's a Wave-Frame and rolls Eager Edge makes it unique enough.

While it's true that chasing tier three armaments and above can be tough, this new sword benefits even more from having extra perks. This allows you to get utility and damage perks on the same copy of the weapon, saving vault space.

Eager Edge is among our best options for Synanceia, but it's not the only pick. Here are our PvE god rolls for Synanceia in Destiny 2.

Synanceia PvE god rolls in Destiny 2

The Synanceia sword in Destiny 2, with a light pink and blue color scheme.
The Holofoil version gets a completely different palette. Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Blade: Jagged Edge or Honed Edge
  • Guard: Swordmaster's Guard
  • First perk: Relentless Strikes, Attrition Orbs, or Sharp Harvest
  • Second perk: Elemental Honing or Eager Edge

    • Honorable mentions: Chain Reaction, Surrounded

The third column for Synanceia shows a couple of desirable options right off the bat. Relentless Strikes is great for generating ammo upon hits with no kill trigger required, which helps prolong those extra boss phases if you're using it to focus on sturdier combatants. Attrition Orbs works as a supporting perk in those scenarios, helping you keep Surge or Font mods topped up during damage phases.

Sharp Harvest works for some extra utility, like Relentless Strikes for your Special. Wellspring and Proximity Power generate ability energy, so they're not bad options if you need them for your builds.

In the fourth column, Eager Edge is also particularly interesting for scenarios where you'd like more movement, and the most obvious use case is to zoom past enemies in your Solo Ops farming. The downside of this perk in Synanceia is, it's fighting against other damage-based perks.

If you're planning to use a copy of this weapon specifically for damage, aim for Elemental Honing, which takes some setup but is more universal than Surrounded (though the latter is useful in ultra-specific scenarios with plenty of adds).

If you're looking for a damage bump, Assassin's Blade also works in the third column, though this is more suited to taking down chaff enemies because it triggers on a kill. You can pair it with Chain Reaction.

The parts don't matter as much, though you should aim for Jagged Edge or Honed Edge to get more damage, plus Swordmaster's Guard for a smaller delay between heavy attacks.

How to get Synanceia in Destiny 2

Synanceia is available as part of the Heavy Metal event, which went live on Sept. 2 and is bound to last until Sept. 9. You can obtain it by participating in Heavy Metal PvP matches, with a holofoil copy available at rank 10 in the event track.

Hornet in Silksong next to The Knight from Hollow Knight

Silksong is really close. The most hyped game of the last few years, currently the most wishlisted on Steam, is releasing soon. Players like me are avoiding starting new games before it launches, while game devs delay releases in fear that Silksong will kill them on arrival.

Since developer Team Cherry is holding all of Silksong for the release date, a lot of questions have been popping up on Google and Twitter. We've answered and compiled below the top ones you're probably asking yourself as well.

What is Silksong's exact release date and time?

Silksong releases at 9am U.S. Central Time on Thursday, Sept. 4, in all regions and all platforms at once. Check out our Silksong release date timer for the exact hours to launch.

How much will Silksong cost?

Silksong will cost $19.99 or an equivalent in your local currency (such as 19.99 euros or 2300 Japanese yen.)

Will Silksong be on Game Pass?

Yes, Silksong will be on Game Pass on launch day for players with a Console Ultimate subscription, a PC subscription, or Game Pass Ultimate. Console Game Pass subscribers with Core or Standard subscriptions are excluded and can't play Silksong on day one, though upgrading your subscription will instantly grant you access.

Which platforms will Silksong be available on at launch?

Silksong will launch digitally on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. It won't be available on mobile. At launch, only the digital version will be available.

Will Silksong have a physical release?

It's unclear. At launch, there is no Silksong physical release. While Team Cherry hasn't confirmed a physical edition of the game, leaks from April this year point to a Polish store listing a physical edition of the game for the Switch 2. However, since there's no official announcement from the developers, you shouldn't expect a physical edition soon.

Is there a Silksong deluxe or collector's edition?

Not on launch day. The game's digital release is a single $19.99 edition. The only add-on you can buy is the game's official soundtrack for $11.

Can you pre-order Silksong?

No. Team Cherry has confirmed there will be no pre-orders of Silksong on any platform. There could be pre-orders for the physical edition coming in 2026, but that's so far ahead that we have no information on it yet.

Can you play Silksong early?

No. Silksong will release at the same time in every region. Since there's no pre-order or deluxe edition, no player will have early access to the game.

If you have more questions, feel free to pop them in the comments below!

Hornet in Silksong preparing an attack. Three cartoon stacks of cash are floating in front of her

Silksong will be priced at $20. It feels low for how long it's been in development and how big the franchise is. Developer Team Cherry could've charged $30 or even $40 and still sold millions of copies because of how beloved the original Hollow Knight is, not to mention how much hype players have had for Silksong since 2019.

Still, it really costs only $20. This low price is making some people, including other indie developers, believe the game is so cheap that it will hurt the pricing options of other indie games.

https://twitter.com/BastiArtGames/status/1962412246039953783

New and small indie devs may think players will compare their game's price to Silksong. If it's anything close to $20, people would say, "This game isn't Silksong, so $20 is too much." The devs fear this will force them to undercharge for their games. This potential pressure to reduce prices could make new game projects unsustainable, since these games aren't Silksong and never will be, so they must be worth less than $20.

If devs believe their game is competing with Silksong across the board, including price, that could lead to giving up or, as has happened, delaying their games only to avoid a release near that of Silksong. Depending on how far it spreads, the ripples could reach throughout the indie scene and cause quite a bit of damage.

But I think we'll avoid most of this. What people forget is that Silksong isn't in competition with small and new indie games because its reach and scope are at a far higher level. Upcoming indie games compete with Silksong the way underground bands compete with Taylor Swift, or the way this article competes with The Washington Post's Pulitzer-worthy features.

One could assume otherwise. Since Silksong is an indie game, other indie games will see it as a direct competitor. But the thing is, "indie" isn't a game genre, and people usually enjoy games for their core gameplay and spend money based on expected patterns: MOBAs and hero shooters are free with premium cosmetics; MMORPGs may have a subscription; fighting games are paid with yearly character passes; and indie metroidvanias are cheap. So, let's compare Silksong's price with that of other games in the same genre, metroidvanias.

The average price of the top 50 best-selling metroidvanias on Steam is $17, according to SteamDB. That means Silksong's $20 price tag is more expensive, not less, than its competitors'. It's only cheaper than the average $31 price tag of all top 100 Steam games, but that includes gigantic AAA productions that will always cost more than a game with three core developers like Silksong. So if an indie developer wanted to release their new metroidvania for $25, the problem wouldn't be that it's more expensive than Silksong, but that it's more expensive than the industry average.

If indie devs are anxious about their game's pricing, they should focus on problems that affect their financials in ways that Silksong never will. Devs have to give Steam 30% of their game sales, lower the price for specific regions, make frequent price cuts to cater to Steam's sale-addicted user base, and sometimes create microtransactions or paid downloadable content to get extra revenue. Add on top of that how they have to pray their game content doesn't piss off a payment processor that could censor and ban their title from online stores.

Everyone who creates a product, including a game, has to worry about competition. However, the level of worry and anxiety some developers are experiencing seems to be blowing things out of proportion, from delaying the release of their titles not to clash with Silksong to considering whether they should charge the same $20 for their games.

The gaming industry is more likely to be hurt by the fear of Silksong's impact than by the game's actual release. We don't need releases to become like the stock market, where bad things happen because everyone freaks out at once, leading to that panic becoming real.

The post Silksong's $20 tag could hurt the indie scene, but only if devs let price anxiety win appeared first on Destructoid.

Hive Lord in Helldivers 2

The Hive Lord is one of the few monstrosities in Helldivers 2 that seems almost impossible to take down. However, the beast can be defeated if you and your allies remember some key points.

This gargantuan bile-spewing worm almost appears to have an infinite health pool. It can use the environment to attack and kill you, making things worse. While this creature appears randomly, and I have managed to encounter it a couple of times so far, here's what you need to remember when facing one.

Helldivers 2 Hive Lord attacks

To defeat any opponent, you have to understand its attacks. The Hive Lord has several different attacks up its sleeve.

  • Ripples: The Hive Lord routinely disappears into the sand to escape damage. If you're caught along the way, you'll be knocked down.
  • Debris: If you thought that the Hive Lord burrowing underground was bad, then this is worse. You'll get knocked out by the rocks whenever it re-emerges from the ground. These can be accompanied by eruptions, only to make the situation worse.
  • Body slam: Not sure if this is the proper name, but standing like a mannequin by the Hive Lord will get you crushed by its immense weight. Try to dodge and save your stamina to dive around.
  • Bile Spray: Like all good Terminids, the Hive Lord sprays acidic liquid over a large area. This can damage and eventually kill anyone unfortunate enough to get trapped in it.

https://twitter.com/helldivers2/status/1962802722517786694

How do you encounter Hive Lords in Helldivers 2?

A Hive Lord's appearance is entirely random, and you can encounter them only when you're playing on one of the Terminid hive worlds. You'll also have to play at a decent enough difficulty for them to appear. If you're playing at lower difficulties and wondering where the beast is - yes, it's unlikely to appear.

How to defeat the Hive Lord in Helldivers 2?

While it is possible to kill the Hive Lord (my buddies and I wasted nearly an hour and plenty of resources achieving this), the best tactic is just to run and escape. Any covered area is a good spot as the creature won't be able to enter, and it will just let you go. You could encounter other Terminids, though, so that's something to keep in mind.

If you still want to kill it, you're going to need the biggest guns, which means the Anti-Tank weapons. The Recoiless Rifle is a great choice, but you can also use the Commando. You're also going to need hellbombs if they're available, to do more damage. Any other weapon will fail even to pinch the creature.

When shooting at it, just target its head. Its head is the weakest spot and relatively easy to target. It's the same reason why I prefer using the Recoiless Rifle in the first place. As hard as the encounter is, you won't be getting any extra rewards from it.

Helldivers 2 Servants of Freedom

It seems like most of the goodwill surrounding Helldivers 2 that arrived with the game's Xbox launch last week, all thanks to a new update.

Today's new update, "Into the Unjust," has apparently and unjustly made the game tough to run for many players, with some calling it "borderline unplayable" after the update has seemingly made game performance worse.

Key art for Helldivers 2
Image via Arrowhead Game Studios

Helldivers 2 players have come together to lambast the new update, which is causing numerous bugs, such as weapon audio cutting out, which is a big problem for certain weapons with audio cues, or for players who are focusing on combat and may not realize they're out of ammo.

"You guys have audio?' one player joked. "I am on PC and I just lose ALL audio for anything from 5 up [to] 20 seconds, it's really random but seems to happen whenever a lot of explosions and gas are present."

Another player claimed that their FPS drops from 120 to 15 during a bug breach, which is obviously a problem, but what's worse is that yet another gamer said that their PC would freeze upon that same occurrence. Other complaints include CPU spikes and game crashes when loading, so it appears that this update may need to be addressed soon.

"Arrowhead needs to focus on optimization and bug fixes, or else they'll find themselves running out of community goodwill and player numbers will drop," another player opined. "We can only understand up to a certain point. I'd be happy to stop receiving content for a while as long as the issues with the game are getting fixed. New content is cool, but if I can't do anything with it I don't really want it."

"I was excited to get into a dive on a Hive World and yet I spent 30 seconds just now frozen in the character walkout segment when you open the game," one more diver complained. "Then the first time a breach happens I get crackling audio and the game hitches over and over.  This isn't acceptable. A game can't survive in this state. I think AH needs to get their priorities straight if they want the long term profits they imagine over the short term ones that they are realizing."

As of publishing this article, it's been around eight hours since the update launched, but Arrowhead is likely well aware of the issues that it's caused.

Blitzcrank against Illaoi in 2XKO

We have had a surprise gameplay reveal for Blitzcrank, who could be a pretty unique pick in 2XKO.

Revealed ahead of the upcoming closed beta, the 2-minute trailer had some fascinating insights. For starters, the trailer sheds a lot of light on an iconic Blitzcrank ability that will be adapted for the upcoming game. Just like in the MOBA, the iconic grab-and-pull could cause havoc on the battlefield.

2XKO Blitzcrank moves explained

The trailer, revealed on Sept. 2, shared the moveset for Blitzcrank and how his League of Legends kit will be translated into the 2D-fighting style of 2XKO.

Blitzcrank's main offensive arsenal is his Rocket Grab, and it could be a devastating move. In the trailer, everyone's favorite robot went against some of the other member rosters like Illaoi, Jinx, and more. It appears that Rocket Grab can break through defensive blocks, which really makes it interesting. In simpler words, the only easy way to avoid the move could be a jump.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPx3m5UalQs

That said, the move can generate massive combos that can eat plenty of the opponent's health in no time. While some of his common abilities seem a bit clunky, the combos certainly look more interesting.

Another ability we witnessed in the trailer was his signature Mana Barrier, which can be used as defense. In a brief glimpse, we saw Blitzcrank creating a shield with his barrier that made him invincible for a short time.

There were certain instances of Power Fist and Static Fist also being part of his kit, but they didn't get much time in the trailer. I am sure we will be able to analyze the moves more once the closed beta goes live on Sept. 9.

Fallout 76 CAMP revamp

Sept. 2 marks the launch of Fallout 76's Patch 62 update, and there's a CAMP revamp we all get to enjoy.

If you've struggled with how the CAMP (aka C.A.M.P. system) worked so far, this update should delight you. With softer rules and re-worked Workshop UI, you can go for more personalization.

This update is perfect for those who love to build their own base masterpieces, so let's quickly go through the highlights.

All Fallout 76 Patch 62 notes and CAMP revamp updates

The focus for this update looks to help players build more freely and establish the buildings they want. Specific key changes have been made to aid the process.

Item Snapping

Players can now toggle item snapping on and off, allowing more flexibility in building and placements. You can now build walls beneath floors. Similarly, floors can be attached to them without the need to build stairs.

Placement restrictions

Some items still require ground placement, but the restrictions have been loosened for others. Yes, you can even place certain items in the air if you want, as bizarre as that might look.

Workshop 2.0

The Workshop menu has been refreshed to focus on findability and organization. This new UI aims to make it easier for players to find the C.A.M.P. items they need. This will help you craft new rooms quickly and place things more easily.

Additionally, Bethesda invites the community to showcase their creativity between Sept. 2 and Sept. 29. There will be various C.A.M.P. competitions held throughout the year. The first one allows you to share screenshots of your creations and try to take your place on top.

The patch is available on all platforms for free, and all you have to do is update your in-game client to the latest version.

A man holding a pistol to the side and looking at the camera in the promotional material of Black Ops 7.

It's finally happening, Call of Duty gamers. CoD is getting the movie treatment.

Activision and Paramount announced on Sept. 2, 2025 that they had agreed to terms on bringing the long-running FPS franchise to the silver screen in a full-fledged movie adaptation, in what can only be described as an overdue no-brainer.

Captain Price
Image via Activision

As with any video game adaptation, there is worry. How faithful will it be to the storylines from the games? Will it even try to adapt the games at all? There is no shortage of ideas from the games for the script to pull from.

The CoD movie could take place across any number of time periods. CoD began in World War II, but has since gone on to deal with just about every other era imaginable, including the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the near and distant future, and, of course, the era of Modern Warfare.

CoD works just about anywhere and any time because as long as there's a gun and some conflict, the series can work from a game standpoint. But when it comes to creating a captivating story worth telling via big-budget action sequences in a Paramount film, things get murkier.

When it comes to existing CoD storylines, the Black Ops franchise is my pick if they decide to go that route. The usage of espionage, mind control, and top-secret operations behind enemy lines is very intriguing to me.

At the same time, a Modern Warfare 2-style movie featuring a massive world war would also be exciting. Who can forget the MW2 missions featuring the Russian invasion of the US? That might translate well for the type of bombastic action the movie is looking for.

So I pose the question to you, dear reader, which era or games do you think the CoD movie should be based on? Or should it be something new and different entirely? Head down to the poll and comments below to let us know what you're thinking.

A ghost trapped in a summoning circle in front of a flaming cross in Phasmophobia

If you think you've mastered the art of ghost hunting in Phasmophobia, you may be ready to put your skills to the test. Weekly challenge modes are a great way to see just how good you are.

These special trials modify how the game works, usually with rules that make the experience a lot harder. Successfully finishing the challenge gets you plenty of XP and cash, so it's well worth the effort. Here's the weekly challenge in Phasmophobia and everything you need to know to beat it.

Phasmophobia weekly challenge mode (Aug. 31-Sept.7)

The gotta go fast challenge in Phasmophobia
Screenshot by Destructoid

From Aug. 31 to Sept.7, the weekly challenge is Gotta Go Fast! in Phasmophobia. In this challenge, you have no sanity and no hiding spots, but you do get a helpful speed boost that allows you to traverse the massive map a bit quicker than usual.

How to complete the weekly challenge in Phasmophobia

To finish the weekly challenge mode in Phasmophobia, you need to correctly identify the ghost present on the featured map three times. The specific changes present in each trial mode vary, but your goal is always the same.

All Gotta Go Fast! weekly challenge modifiers in Phasmophobia

This challenge mode has several specific rules that modify the way the contract functions. Here are all the key details you need to know about this trial.

  • Map: Prison
  • Starting sanity: Zero percent
  • Sanity Pill restoration: Zero percent
  • Setup time: None
  • Player speed: 125 percent
  • Ghost speed: 125 percent
  • Hiding places: None
  • Fuse box state: Broken
  • Cursed Possession: Random
  • Equipment: All Tier I items.

    • Tier I: Sound Recorder, Head Gear, Salt, Tripod, Sound Sensor, Ultraviolet, Motion Sensor, Parabolic Microphone, Photo Camera, Spirit Box, DOTS Projector, EMF Reader, Ghost Writing Book, Video Camera, Flashlight, Firelight, and Igniters.

  • Missing Equipment: One Sound Recorder, all Incense, and all Crucifixes.

Phasmophobia Gotta Go Fast! weekly challenge mode tips

The Gotta Go Fast! challenge is one of the trickier ones you can attempt in Phasmophobia, so here are some of the best tips to help you get it done.

  • Learn the layout of the Prison map. It's a massive area to explore, and quite a maze, but it's much easier to traverse if you're generally familiar with what it looks like. Load into a custom match with the friendly ghost option turned on so you can freely explore without worrying the ghost will kill you.
  • Be wary of early hunters. There's no setup time in this one, so it's possible, although unlikely, that you may be hunted as soon as you step on the map. Try to get Crucifixes down around the ghost room as soon as possible to deter this and also ensure you're always ready to run or hide as needed.
  • Run, don't hide. The one benefit of a massive map like Prison is that you have loads of space to run and loop the ghost. In this trial, it's always better to run than it is to hide. As long as you just keep running, the ghost will eventually end the hunt. Hiding is always a bit risky since it's sometimes tough to tell whether the ghost saw you go into your hiding spot, and there aren't any official hiding spots in this trial anyway.
  • Watch for hunt patterns and unofficial evidence. Successfully catching actual evidence is tough since you have no sanity, so the ghost will hunt you very often. Watch out for unofficial evidence and unique hunting patterns to have a better chance at identifying the ghost. Poltergeists throw an item every 0.5 seconds during hunts, Banshees target only one player until they're deceased, Wraiths never step in Salt, Onis can't perform the airball event, and so on for most other ghosts. Learn the specific behaviors that make each ghost different and use them to help you catch the ghost.
  • Play with friends. Your odds of success are a lot better with allies helping you through this tricky trial. With additional ghost hunters at your side, you can explore the map more quickly, work together to gather evidence, and continue the investigation even if you perish.
  • Don't give up. Since all equipment is provided for free, there's nothing to lose in this challenge. Because of this, you can keep trying without worrying about losing money or equipment. Give each contract your all and keep at it until you get it done.

When does the challenge mode change in Phasmophobia?

The challenge mode changes every Monday at 12am UTC, which translates to 7pm CT every Sunday. You have a full week to tackle each challenge mode when it's available. All challenge modes return regularly since they're on a rotating schedule, so if you don't get to finish one, you can always try it again in the future.

Next weekly challenge mode in Phasmophobia

The next weekly challenge mode, which will run for a full week from Sep. 7 to 14, is Sanity Survival. This trial begins as soon as this week's challenge, Gotta Go Fast!, ends.

What is ADSing in Call of Duty Black Ops 6

After decades of dominating the gaming sphere, Call of Duty is officially coming to the silver screen.

A massive deal has been signed between CoD publisher Activision and movie-maker Paramount to bring the decades-long FPS franchise to movie theaters everywhere. The top-selling game franchise for 16 years running will now make its way to the box office.

Barry Sloane is Captain Price in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3
Image via Activision

"As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty this is truly a dream come true," Paramount CEO David Ellison said in a statement. "From the first Allied campaigns in the original Call of Duty, through Modern Warfare and Black Ops, I've spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love. Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we don't take lightly."

It's kind of shocking that it's taken this long for a CoD movie to get made. It seems perfectly ripe for the Hollywood treatment, with big-budget action scenes being commonplace among the game's campaigns for several years. But now, Activision has finally found a deal worth taking, although financials of the agreement were not disclosed.

"We're approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve," Ellison said. "I can promise that we are resolute in our mission to deliver a cinematic experience that honors the legacy of this one-in-a-million brand – thrilling longtime fans of Call of Duty while captivating a whole new generation."

Other than casting announcements, a director, and a script, one other big question remains: which storyline will the movie adapt? Will it be something entirely new? Will it borrow characters from the games? If so, will it be Modern Warfare or Black Ops?

Personally, I think the Black Ops games are way more captivating from a storytelling standpoint, whereas the Modern Warfare games tend to be a bit more generic. Unfortunately, I feel like the "modern" aesthetic will be easier to translate to a wider audience, so if I had to bet on it, I'd say we'll be seeing Captain Price and company.

"Throughout its history, Call of Duty has captured our imagination with incredible action and intense stories that have brought millions of people together from around the world, and that focus on making incredible Call of Duty games remains unwavering," said Activision president Rob Kostich. "With Paramount, we have found a fantastic partner who we will work with to take that visceral, breathtaking action to the big screen in a defining cinematic moment. The film will honor and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place, and we cannot wait to get started. Our shared goal is quite simple — to create an unforgettable blockbuster movie experience that our community loves, and one that also excites and inspires new fans of the franchise."

Pokemon Legends Arceus trailer

If you've never played Pokémon, you don't have an emotional or nostalgic connection with its world. Those who have played the game for over 20 years, like me, will eat anything The Pokémon Company serves because the Pokémon universe means something to us.

The joy of evolving your favorite Pokémon, the thrill of capturing a shiny, and the excitement of pulling your favorite card are what "enjoying Pokémon" is about. It's about loving the Pokémon universe as a whole, not just having fun with a game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4RynqpahT8

But if you've never had that connection with Pokémon, most games will feel boring because they mean nothing to you. The current main series is mid. If you want to really understand where the fun in Pokémon is, you have to start with a game that has all the elements to build that bridge between you and the Pokémon universe. And Pokémon Legends: Arceus is that game.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus (PLA) is the best Pokémon game of the decade because it's widely based on free exploration and discovery. While you have to follow a certain story path to unlock more of the game world, you can interact with the areas and their Pokémon with much more freedom than in other games like Sword and Shield or Scarlet and Violet.

The areas where you find Pokémon are vast, with different biomes and Pokémon. You can observe these Pokémon standing next to lakes, hanging on trees, walking in the forest, and protecting caves. Some will frighten easily and run away, but others will be aggressive and chase you. Some are found alone, while others are always in groups.

Watching these Pokémon helps you learn more about their habits and personality, and this alone should help you to start picking favorites. Maybe you want to surprise-catch cute Pokémon like Eevee, or recruit the aggressive ones like Shinx and Staravia to lead your team and help you complete the Pokédex.

That same Pokédex will reward you for discovering more about Pokémon, such as watching them use specific moves, evolving them, or catching different genres and variants. If you want to make maximum progress in PLA, you have no choice other than learning more about the world of Pokémon.

If this thrill of discovery and immersion in Pokémon isn't quite what you're looking for, you'll find modern gameplay in PLA that no other Pokémon title has had before. You can stalk Pokémon to catch them by surprise, for example. For the first time in the series, you can craft almost any item, not just Pokéballs, from materials you collect in the wild.

You can also argue that PLA is an open-world game because areas are vast and can be explored freely, despite the Jubililfe Village being a hub to move between them. You also lose items when a Pokémon knocks your character out. If you're just looking for a Pokémon game with more modern mechanics, PLA has plenty to offer.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A will soon be the second entry in the Legends series. My early feeling, without hands-on experience, is that it will not focus on adventure, exploration, and discovery like Legends: Arceus. It feels built to appeal to more dedicated Pokémon fans.

Overall, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the one with the most engaging, intuitive, and immersive gameplay in the entire franchise. Its world, exploration, and mechanics have everything one needs to immerse themselves in the world of Pokémon and fall in love with it. If these elements don't make you love at least a part of the Pokémon world, nothing will.

Superman saving llama in slurp geyser in fortnite

Fortnite has many unique weekly missions you can work through to claim lots of XP. One of the trickier ones you'll encounter in Chapter Six, season four, asks you to gain shields using Slurp Geysers.

Prior to this quest, there's a good chance you haven't encountered or interacted with Slurp Geysers. This makes it a tricky task to get done since you likely have no idea where to look or how to use them. If this mission has you stumped, here's how to gain shields using Slurp Geysers in Fortnite.

Slurp Geyser locations in Fortnite

Four slurp geyser locations in fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

There are four locations you can visit to find Slurp Geysers around the island in Fortnite. All of these locations are bug-infested zones, so you must act quickly and carefully to use them for shield restoration, as many hostile bugs and players will likely be hanging around the area. The four spots you can visit are:

  • The Hive
  • Ranger's Ruin
  • Swarmy Stash
  • Demon's Debris

There's only one Slurp Geyser present at each of these locations. You can distinguish them from other pools around the area by searching for a rocky circle with bubbling blue liquid in the center. Around every 10 to 15 seconds, these Slurp Geysers shoot liquid up into the air.

Gain shields using Slurp Geysers in Fortnite

To complete the Gain Shields using Slurp Geysers quest, you need to receive a total of 100 shields from Slurp Geysers. This takes a minimum of four boosts from the geyser since each one only restores 30 shields. It's a bit of a tricky process to navigate, so here's how to get it done.

  • Find a Slurp Geyser. Visit one of the four bug-infested POIs around the island, including The Hive, Ranger's Ruin, Swarmy Stash, and Demon's Debris.
  • Stand on the Slurp Geyser. Move your character to have them stand right in the center of the geyser.
  • Wait for the Slurp Geyser to erupt. It usually takes around 10 to 15 seconds for the geyser to activate.
  • Fly back down to the Slurp Geyser. Each time the geyser erupts, it sends you up into the air, so you'll need to travel back down to it so you can restore more shields. It only grants you 30 for each trip into the sky.
  • Repeat this process until you have 100 shields. It takes four geyser trips to get the 100 shields you need to fully finish this quest.

Throughout the bug-infested zones, there are some stagnant Slurp pools that can be used to replenish your shields, too. These pools don't count for this mission, though, so be careful of stepping in any other bodies of liquid while working on it. If you accidentally do, you'll need to find a way to get rid of some shields so you can get the 100 required for this mission from the geyser.

There are plenty of other tough missions to get done around the vast Fortnite island after this one is complete. Next, you might try talking to Championship Surf Witch about FNCS, using loudspeakers on the Hammerhead Choppadiscovering the swarm's access point to the island, and finishing all Welcome to the Infestation missions.

Pointing at a dark blue starry ceiling in disney dreamlight valley

Prior to Disney Dreamlight Valley's Emotional Rescue update, all ceilings looked the same and couldn't be edited. Because of this, you might not know how to change ceiling texture now that it's a feature you can use.

Changing ceilings can drastically alter the look and feel of any room you're working on. It's a useful gameplay feature, so here's how to change the ceiling texture in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

You can change the ceiling in any room inside any of your houses by selecting the Ceiling Texture category in Furniture mode. It can be a bit tricky to find and use this feature, so here's a full breakdown of how to access it.

  • Visit any of your houses around the village. You can only access this feature in your home, so start by heading to any of your homes around Dreamlight Valley or DLC worlds like Eternity Isle and Storybook Vale.
  • Open Furniture mode. On PC, you can immediately open this category by pressing F. On other platforms, you first need to open your Inventory, then switch to the Furniture page. The button you need to press to open your Inventory is displayed in the top right corner next to the backpack icon.
  • Find and select the Ceiling Texture category. It's in the second-to-bottom row, right between the Floors and Windows categories.
  • Choose any Ceiling Texture. This system works the same as flooring, so as soon as you select any of the available options, the ceiling immediately changes. You can select a new one at any point to replace it.

Can you change ceiling texture in Daisy's Boutique in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

You cannot change the ceiling texture in Daisy's Boutique. Unfortunately, some of Daisy's challenges might ask you to do so anyway. This is a bug, so if you run into this issue, you'll have to work on fixing it to finish her trial.

If you run into a Daisy's Boutique challenge that asks you to change the ceiling texture, you can combat this bug by ending the active trial and starting a new one. It's likely you haven't done so before, so if you're unsure how to tackle this process, here's how to get it done.

  • Talk to Daisy. Find her in the Boutique and interact with her to pull up all available dialogue options.
  • Select the "Cancel the current challenge" option. It's the third option up from the bottom.
  • Choose "Yes. Cancel this challenge." Selecting this option confirms your choice and officially ends the active trial.

Once you've cancelled the bugged challenge, you can chat with Daisy again to start a new one. If she gives you another trial that has ceiling texture requirements, simply repeat this process again to acquire another fresh one. There are no penalties for cancelling challenges, so you can do so as much as you need, whether it's to get rid of this requirement or simply get an easier one to work through.

There are plenty of other tasks to get done around the valley. If you're not sure what to do next, consider learning all Companion abilities and rewards, how to feed Sunbirds, all Star Wars items, and how to find the Bing Bong plushie.

LeBron James shouting in excitement in NBA 2K26

The shot meter is a visual cue in NBA 2K26 that helps you score more baskets, but disabling it offers certain benefits.

The shot meter, enabled by default, allows you to time and power your throws correctly. The top of the meter has a green portion that almost guarantees you a basket. In simple words, green timing a throw ensures perfect release, and the shot meter makes it easier for you to perform this task.

However, you can make changes or turn off this meter in certain situations. Here's when you should do that.

How to change your shot meter in NBA 2K26

You can easily change the default shot meter from the Customize HUD section of NBA 2K26. You can find the Customize HUD section in Features or directly from the modes.

  • Go to Shot Meter Shots.
  • Select Graphics.
  • Pick an option for your shot meter.

Aside from setting up a different style, you can also tweak the meter's color, placement, and size. Before you confirm your selection, you'll get a visual demo. Once done, save your changes, and your personalized shot meter will appear during games.

How to disable shot meter in NBA 2K26

You can also disable the shot meter entirely if you want to. From the same menu as above, you'll find the Visibility options. You can disable the shot meter for throws, layups, and free throws together or separately. Just toggle the options off so the changes reflect during a match.

Should you turn off the shot meter in NBA 2K26?

If you're a beginner, leaving the shot meter on is better. Once disabled, you'll have to build understanding for timing manually. Your cue in that case will be the animation of your players. You'll have to look at their hands when they're in the motion of throwing the ball.

This sounds easy, but it's far from it. Players have different throwing animation styles, and you'll have to remember them all. However, turning off the shot meter in the long run is better. You get a perfect timing release boost without the meter, but this requires plenty of practice and in-game experience.

I always feel that it's better to keep the meter on at the start of a new game to understand the new gameplay mechanics. Once you're reasonably comfortable with the game engine, turning the meter off is better.

Characters engaging in combat within a dark room in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.

Final Fantasy Tactics is a classic PlayStation title from the latter half of the '90s, which, 30 years down the line, is getting a remaster, with expanded gameplay and content fit for modern systems and standards.

During Gamescom 2025, we had the chance to sit down with game director Kazutoyo Maheiro and co-director Ayako Yokoyama, who shared a lot of valuable insight regarding Final Fantasy Tactics -The Ivalice Chronicles. They told us about the game's development, the reasons behind remaking such an old title now, as well as what newcomers and veterans alike can expect from the title.

Here's the full interview.

Note: Parts of this interview have been edited to remove common speech repetitions and allow for better text clarity. Third-person translations were also put in first person for better reading.

Why did you decide to make a Tactics remaster now, nearly 20 years later? What was the decision behind remastering the title instead of doing a fully fledged remake?

Kazutoyo Maheiro (director, Creative Studio 3): Actually, I had the chance a couple of years ago to play the original version of Final Fantasy Tactics. And in playing the original version again, even though the game is nearly 30 years old, he still realized that it has an excellent story and really good game design, and it is still something that resonates with players.

So, after I had played, I thought, man, I really would like to bring this story to a lot of new players, and that was kind of the starting point of the development for The Ivalice Chronicles.

As to your second question, I felt that the original Final Fantasy Tactics was already a very complete game, and I really wanted to bring that game to a new generation. And I think that if we went too far in that direction of the full remake, it would kind of degrade that part of Final Fantasy Tactics. You know, it already has that great story, it already has that great background music and everything like that, so we wanted to make sure that we were keeping that intact when we provided it.

As we look into this remaster launching at the end of September, I was curious about how the team is looking to define success for this title and what the possibility of a brand-new FF Tactics would be, depending on the success of the series.

Ayako Yokoyama (co-director, Creative Studio 3): I think with strategy RPGs in general, maybe there's a bit of a difficulty curve. They can be difficult games, and, well, we wanted people to be able to play through the entire game. So I think we were trying to bring it to as many people, including those who might be a bit averse to the strategy RPG genre.

And as I was mentioning, we did want to bring this to as many people as we could, and so we were trying, not just for strategy RPG fans, but just people in general, we wanted to kind of expand on who was able to experience Final Fantasy Tactics. So we're hoping that we're able to really provide this game and allow for many, many more people to play it.

Maheiro: And I think we've seen some really, really good reception for this title, and I know that there are a lot of people who know about the original, but they actually never had a chance to play it before. What we would consider a success [would be] if we provided that game to those people who haven't had a chance to play it, and then see their reaction, [and] that they really enjoyed it.

We know there are a ton of fans of the original, and I am fairly aware that they are looking for a sequel or a continuation. I think that kind of depends on how The Ivalice Chronicles performs and what the reception is from players. So it's kind of seeing what happens once it does release, and then [that could be] something we can consider.

You both talked fondly about keeping to the original and faithful story and presentation of the game, all the way down to the art style and how the game is presented. But you have added new things with the remaster, such as voice acting, UI improvements, light changes, etc. I was curious if the team also looked at implementing other changes that might not have made their way into the final product, and if so, why?

Maehiro: I think overall, when we think about our goal of bringing Final Fantasy Tactics to the modern generation of players in 2025, and the things that we added to give them the best experience possible, I feel like we managed to get everything in that we really wanted.

I think another way to put it is, when we were thinking about what we wanted to add, we managed to make sure that we weren't adding anything that was unnecessary.

Yokoyama: So again, the Final Fantasy Tactics story is quite amazing, and I think to help people enjoy that to the fullest, we made a lot of updates to the Chronicle.

And you might be familiar with Active Time Lore from Final Fantasy XVI, and we had actually thought about including something similar in The Ivalice Chronicles. But there were a couple of challenges surrounding that, and a lot of it has to do with the game's flags of progress.

Between the enhanced version, which we were updating and making a lot of new additions and adjustments to, and the classic version, the way those flags were was different. And [since] we basically had to recreate the engine for the enhanced version, it was really difficult for us to kind of set up all those flags, and as a result, it just became too hard to include the Active Time Lore, just because of the way that was set up.

So that was one thing that we did want to put in, but we weren't able to

When you were originally looking at designing the remaster of this game, was there any inclination or any thought to turn the 2D sprites into more 3D-scale worlds and environments? The team obviously decided on keeping the 2D to preserve the originality. I'm curious if there was ever a discussion or thought regarding that 3D art style.

Maehiro: I think from the start of the development of the project, we never really thought that we wanted to make those full 3D models or anything like that. And honestly, if you think about Final Fantasy Tactics, those cute pixelated characters and those 3D isometric backgrounds really are kind of like the heart and soul of the game.

Looking at the reception to Final Fantasy Tactics remaster and the vast library of tactical RPGs and older games that Square Enix has, I was wondering if there was an ideal older game or title that both of you might want to see get the Final Fantasy Tactics treatment in the future and what would be your personal favorite project to work on.

Yokoyama: Vagrant Story. I'm aware of how many fans there are for that. So many people leave comments and say, like, we'd really like to see a Vagrant Story remake, or something like that. And Maehiro-san actually worked on the original development of it. So it's a very memorable project for him as well. But I really wonder and want to see what it would be like if we made this now with the latest graphics.

Maehiro: Illusion of Gaia.  For me, as a player, just playing that game was extremely fun. So that's why I would like to recreate that.

Working on a project like this, with a game and a story that is very beloved by fans, how pressured did you feel working on this title [while trying] to make it as faithful to the original and not stray from the course too much by adding things?

Maehiro: I think the pressure that I felt was a lot different from that you might feel if you're creating a brand-new game. Obviously, there are a lot of fans of the original, and one of the things we definitely don't want to do is disappoint those fans. But at the same time, we want to make sure that new fans are also enjoying it. So it was a challenge for us to make sure that we are able to both appease the original fans and the new fans as well, but bring that experience to them.

Yokoyama: I didn't work on the original 28 years ago, unlike Maehiro-san. Within the team, however, there are a lot of people who worked on the original game, who still love it, so coming from that perspective, we wanted to make sure no one was disappointed with what we were doing.

Rather than adding in all of these new features and changing things, it was more of a focus on making the game easy to play and making it approachable for people. We wanted as many people to play it as we could. So there were things that we added in, like difficulty settings. So you have the Squire setting, the Knight setting, and the Tactician setting, those three different difficulties.

It allows the person who's playing to basically select the experience they want and gives them the freedom to do so. And then that kind of ties back into the whole being approachable, being easy to play.

Peacemaker and his crew next to Nick Fury and some other characters in Secret Invasion

Welcome back, Destructoid, to another week of what we've been watching lately. This time, we're highlighting two alien invasion-themed shows, one of which is a shocking success for DC, while the other is one of Marvel's worst projects ever.

I'm a bit late to the party, but with Peacemaker season two starting last week, I finally got around to watching the first one. It was so much better than I ever could've anticipated, and the overall aliens walking among us plot made me think back to the disaster that is Secret Invasion.

I don't mean to focus on pitting Marvel and DC against each other, but I couldn't stop thinking about how bad Secret Invasion was while watching Peacemaker. The whole plotline for Secret Invasion and the Skrulls is a beloved comic arc, and the show completely butchered everything about it. It feels silly to say, but the truth is, Peacemaker did a better secret invasion plotline than Secret Invasion did.

I'm one of the few people who enjoys just about everything Marvel puts out. I don't get superhero fatigue, and I've enjoyed pretty much all MCU projects, even the more controversial ones like She-Hulk, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Eternals. I wanted to find something to like about Secret Invasion back when it released in 2023, but there's just nothing there.

The storytelling was confusing, the writing was bad, none of the surprises were all that surprising, and some terrible choices were made. The most egregious one, in my opinion, is killing the iconic Maria Hill in the first episode for what felt like pure shock value and nothing else. To make an already bad decision even worse, Nick Fury, who has been her closest ally as long as we've known, barely reacts to it and moves on in no time.

There just wasn't anything compelling or interesting to enjoy. Nick Fury has always been an icon in the MCU, and often even a scene stealer at times, but even him being the lead couldn't save this show. I don't know what went wrong here, but Secret Invasion genuinely missed the mark on all accounts, and it's a real shame considering the massive cast of talent on hand for it and the glimpses of a solid idea that sometimes peeked through.

Peacemaker, on the other hand, is wildly compelling, with a vibrant cast of characters, shocking plot twists, stellar humor, and a genuinely phenomenal storyline. Prior to watching it, I didn't care much about Peacemaker as a character. I thought John Cena's portrayal of him in The Suicide Squad was great, but I never really had an interest in following him further, which is why it took me so long to finally tune in.

I now think Peacemaker is one of the best superhero shows ever made, which isn't something I ever thought I would say. Everything about it just works, and my only complaint is that I didn't start watching sooner.

I was fully captivated from the moment the opening credits started playing. Peacemaker has one of the most iconic opening sequences of all time, as the cast of characters dance their way through Wig Wam's "Do You Wanna Taste It" with completely blank expressions. It complements the tone of the show perfectly and is absolutely unskippable.

The wild cast of characters makes this show what it is. Cena's portrayal of Peacemaker, also known as Christopher Smith, is surprisingly complex, making you root for someone who previously seemed irredeemable after killing Rick Flag Jr. in The Suicide Squad. My favorite member of the team by far, though, is Vigilante, also known as Adrian Chase, a completely unhinged and incredibly funny character. I also deeply adore Adebayo, Harcourt, and Economos, and would do anything for Eagly.

The alien invasion sneaks up on you in this show, but once you get into it, the stakes are quite high and extremely compelling. Aliens are known as butterflies in this world, and they kill humans to take control of their bodies. In the end, even their motivations are complex, as they're doing so to try and save the world. Peacemaker does a great job at blurring the lines between heroes and villains, which makes it even more compelling.

Overall, Peacemaker is utterly captivating from start to finish, with characters you'll grow attached to and a storyline you'll want to continue as soon as possible. It's a welcome surprise of a show, and if you haven't tuned in yet, now's the perfect time to do so since season two is being released weekly.

As soon as I finished Peacemaker season one, I watched around the first five minutes or so of the second season solely because I had heard about the Justice League retcon and the new theme song. I was excited to see how both were handled, and they definitely didn't disappoint.

Replacing the Justice League from the old DCU with the Justice Gang from James Gunn's new DCU was truly a genius way to handle Peacemaker's transition. And I kind of love that it wasn't even properly addressed; instead, we're just kind of gaslit into believing that was what happened all along.

The season one theme song is perfection, and is the only opening credits of any show ever that I never skipped. Season two had a lot to live up to, and the new credits definitely exceeded my expectations. I'm thoroughly excited to start watching the next season properly, and I'll certainly be back to talk about it once the entire season is out.

So, Destructoid, have you had the chance to check out either of these alien-infested superhero shows yet? If so, which one did you like better? What else have you been enjoying recently that deserves a watch? Let us know down in the comments so we can discuss.
