I've been a big Helldivers fan since the days of the original. While Arrowhead has done a phenomenal job of converting its top-down co-op shooter into the full-featured, third-person Helldivers 2, I still firmly believe there's space for the classic perspective. It worked just as well in Valve's Alien Swarm, and now the latest take on the format has arrived courtesy of indie team Juvty Worlds. Ammo and Oxygen feels like a fusion of old-school Helldivers and the survival horror of Dead Space. Nearly one year since it first launched in early access, Ammo and Oxygen 1.0 is here, and you can grab it at a discount if you're quick.

Final Fantasy 14 game director Naoki Yoshida says we'll have plenty of chances to show off our strength in the MMO's upcoming stories, but warns that you might have to do some reading. Our Warrior of Light was supposed to be on vacation in Dawntrail, and, while that didn't pan out quite as we hoped, we still took more of a back seat to give the characters around us a chance to step up and grow. Patches 7.2 and 7.3 make it increasingly clear that approach won't be possible moving forward, however, so we sat down with 'Yoshi-P' at Gamescom to discuss becoming the hero again, solving puzzles, and Dawntrail's focus on family.

Hololive English 3rd Concert: All for One Highlighted Vtubers Growth

We've been covering the Vtubers for a while here at Siliconera, both because of their growth in the gaming industry and the fact that… well, the response shows people are interested in it. This means I've gotten to follow the development of English branches of companies. Cover's hololive and holostars always seemed to be among the most stable, both in terms of appeal and growth. That's never been more clear than with hololive English 3rd Concert: All for One, which took place at the end of August 2025 in New York and involved Vtubers from multiple generations. While the first two concerts basically established these streamers are genuinely talented performers and were getting chances to really show how capable they are, this third performance showed this division is now so big that it needs two days and can become a showcase to highlight other talents too.

So to start, the hololive English 3rd Concert: All for One ended up being a two-day event that originally spanned August 23-24, 2025. The original song for this performance with every active English generation member is "All for One," which was used to start the show on the first day and close things as the final encore on the second. 20 performances happened on each day, and the only "repeats" are that new song for this event and "Odyssey." It also ended up being quite balanced, with members of Myth, Promise, Advent, and Justice all performing on both days, so it didn't end up being a divided affair where you needed to pick one showing to catch only the generation you liked. Guest star performances also ended up being evenly split. Remember how I mentioned highlighting other talents in this two-day affair? Oozora Subaru, Ayunda Risu, Tokoyami Towa and Kureiji Ollie from the Japanese and Indonesian branches also showed up and appeared on multiple songs. It felt like such a big deal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok24HgzbeLs

That kind of division is huge. For earlier concerts, we only saw single-day performances. It's a sign of just how large hololive English grew as a branch. Granted, the second concert also featured two days of performances and four guest stars. But the fact that Cover is continuing with that format for the third year highlights that this is strong enough to maintain that sort of initiative. Especially since this year's concerts were both longer. We saw 20 songs each day for a total of 40, while last year there were 17 each day for 34 total.

Because it is such a big concert (and investment), before I keep going with my thoughts on this year's show, I'm going to lay out the setlists here. That way if you are considering also watching it via on-demand, you have an idea of which day to watch.

Day 1: Day 2:
"All for One" by Hololive English "Start Again" by Calliope Mori, IRyS, Nerissa, and Elizabeth
"Genesis" by Advent "Dead Ma'am's Chest" by Bijou
"Temari" by Ninomae Ina'nis "Wonky Monkey" by Gigi
"Above Below" by Justice "Chimera" by Kiara and IRyS
"Hot Duck" by Koseki Bijou, Fuwawa Abyssgard, Mococo Abyssgard, and Oozora Subaru "Lifetime Showtime" by Fuwawa and Mococo
"R x R x R" by Calliope Mori and Hakos Baelz "Azuma" by Shiori
"Gravity" by IRyS, Ouro Kronii, and Tokoyami Towa  "Suspect" by Kiara, Shiori, and Risu
"Wind-up" by Cecilia Immergreen "La Roja" by Baelz
"Gacha x Gacha Adventure" by Raora Panthera "Do U" by Kronii
"In my Feelings" by Nerissa Ravencroft "Shallys" by Ina'nis, Cecilia, Fuwawa, and Mococo
"Alice & u" by Nerissa Ravencroft, Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame, and Ayunda Risu "Feelingradation" by Promise
"Diamond Girlfriend" by IRyS "Neko Kaburi-na" by Ina'nis, Shiori, Raora, and Subaru
"Howling" by Fuwawa and Mococo "High Tide" by Kronii, Elizabeth, and Ollie
"Countach" by Baelz, Gigi Murin, and Kureiji Ollie "III" by Nerissa and Gigi
"Monster" Shiori Novella, Ina'nis, Kronii, and Gigi "End of a Life," "Seeing Stars," and "Dead on Arrival" by Calliope
"Perfume" and "Tasty" by Kiara Takanashi "I'm Your Treasure Box" by Bijou, Cecilia, and Raora
"Stellar Stellar" by Elizabeth "Queen of the Night" by Calliope and Towa
"Seishun Archive" by Myth "Odyssey" by Hololive English
"Connect the World" by Hololive English "Kirameki Rider" by Hololive English
"Odyssey" by Hololive English "All for One" by Hololive English

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB_CKhn3ZrI

The thing that struck me most about the hololive English 3rd Concert is how All for One seemed to be about both equally highlighting all Vtubers in the agency while giving newer members in Justice a chance to stand out more. There are a lot of established singers with Cover right now. Like folks such as Calliope Mori, Kiara Takanashi, IRyS, and Hakos Baelz are such strong talents with amazing voices that we expect to see them carry their own lives and concerts now. The same can be said for more recent members like Nerissa Ravencroft, Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame, and the Abyssgard twins. Anyone who is a big enough fan to purchase an in-person or digital ticket is well aware of what they are capable of. These individuals do get highlighted, with Kiara and Calliope both doing fun medleys on each day.

But for this show, it feels like older members such as Ninomae Ina'nis, Ouro Kronii, and others I've mentioned are being honored while newer ones are getting a bit of the spotlight. I'd even say it feels strategic. For example, on the first day two of the first songs are the Advent and Justice group performances, which feels like a means of introducing the audience to them. Some of the biggest duets with the Japanese and Indonesian branch members also include these newcomers, such as Bijou, Fuwawa, and Mococo joining Subaru for "Hot Duck," Gigi being part of the "Countach" performance with Baelz and Ollie, and both Shiori and Raora getting to sing "Neko Kaburi-na" with Subaru and Ina'nis. Nerissa and Elizabeth both got solos during the day one performances, with "In My Feelings" and "Stellar Stellar," and both Cecilia and Raora getting to sing their original songs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07KOLCi_j20

It may sound silly, but the hololive English 3rd Concert execution also sort of made me hope some of the Vtubers paired up for songs become official units at Cover. I've been a big fan of how Calliope, IRyS, Nerissa, and Elizabeth all sound together ever since "Start Again" was released for ENigmatic Recollection Chapter 1, and the performance here is a stark reminder of just how well their voices blend. They'd make a fantastic group together. Likewise, "Monster" from Chapter 2 of ENigmatic Recollection sounded fantastic, and the Ina'nis, Kronii, Shiori, and Gigi live performance left me wanting more from that quartet. Towa with IRyS and Kronii also sounded incredible as a trio, as did Ina'nis, Cecilia, Fuwawa, and Mococo.

I guess it means that the "All for One" subtitle for hololive English 3rd Concert felt rather apt, as this felt like a great blend of voices and as though the Vtubers were supporting and uplifting each other. There are a lot of fantastic group performances spread across both days. At the same time, it also felt like an opportunity to honor more established members while giving new singers a moment to introduce themselves or maybe get new fans by showing off their original tracks or featuring them in more songs with folks we already know quite well and love. It ended up being yet another collection of successful and stirring performances.

The hololive English 3rd Concert: All for One streaming tickets for on-demand viewing of the Vtubers' performances are available on E+ and Spwn and can be purchased and viewed until September 24, 2025.

The Rise of Nations title card and logo.

Real-time strategy games have fallen out of the spotlight over the past decade and a half, with MOBAs and other variants, such as 4X and grand strategies, taking over.

And that's completely fine—genres evolve, and so does the market, with the old replaced with the new (though not exclusively the better).

But that's where Save File Sundays comes into the mix, allowing us to look back at what gaming history had to offer and revisit those games that are now absent from our collective consciousness, but are still worthy of attention and praise, and, of course, playing.

For today's edition, we have Rise of Nations, an amazing RTS from 2003 that's most comparable to the likes of Age of Empires, where you build up your civ from scratch and clash (or ally) with other players for ultimate supremacy.

The RTS formula near its perfection

Combat is beyond cinematic. Image via Big Huge Games

Rise of Nations embodies two particular formulas: age progression (Civilization) and real-time scramble (Age of Empires). These two combined result in a very dynamic and interesting gameplay loop, where you start in ancient times with rather primitive technologies and slowly build up to the contemporary era, watching history unfold before your eyes.

Though quite similar gameplay-wise, each civilization has its own unique architecture, traditions, recognizable art, units, and so on, which truly invites the player to experience a vast array of different cultures, all the while giving them a ton of replayability.

In Rise of Nations, you take control of an individual civilization either in skirmish games against other players or bots, or play through its single-player campaign, asking you to conquer the entire world. Whichever you choose, the core gameplay loop boils down to the same: start small, build up, enhance your economy, gather your forces, and fight against the enemy.

Win conditions depend on what you chose while creating a match, but it's usually domination, i.e., being the last one alive on the map (or the last alliance, so to speak).

A map of the United States with various units on it in Rise of Nations.
There's a campaign where you can conquer the world or a particular region, and it plays like a tabletop (which is awesome, btw). Image via Big Huge Games

It's very recognizable stuff, which we've seen with other RTS games of the time, especially the likes of Age of Empires. Where Rise of Nations differs, apart from its ages, is its overall complexity with so many technologies, different units, civilization traits, and playstyles.

For example, the Chinese, being a nation of great numbers, have buffs to their Citizen production speed, meaning they can churn out people and develop infrastructure far faster than the average civ; Germans are captains of industry, having bonuses to engineering and factories; the British are an imperial nation, possessing various buffs meant for wide play.

Each civilization is replete with unique characteristics that set it apart from the others, the core unchanging gameplay mechanics notwithstanding.

The game progresses fairly quickly, while skirmishes between two nations are pure cinema, with you feeling like you're observing an active conflict, rather than miniature units clashing with each other.

Various buildings, units, and fields of wheat in Rise of Nations.
Your country's aesthetics fundamentally change through the ages. Image via Big Huge Games

As we noted in 2013, Rise of Nations is far less tedious and superior in combat to Age of Empires, and I think that extends to most RTS games of the time (and of our age, too), simply because it's a lot more approachable, satisfying, and complex (given the myriad different units and ages).

Additionally, Rise of Nations has very detailed diplomatic mechanics, too. Though it requires you to choose "Diplomacy" during match creation, it allows you to negotiate in all sorts of ways with both other players and bots, forming alliances, defensive pacts, and so on.

Building up trade routes, capturing vital resources, and taking up territories that you expect to become valuable in the next five ages are just some aspects of the gameplay, with war itself not being on the very top of the list (unlike most other games in the genre).

Still holds up today

Two towns on the coast in Rise of Nations.
In RoN, you start small and build up your nation through time. Screenshot by Destructoid

With the Extended Edition, Rise of Nations remains playable and accessible to this day. It will require a small patch to prevent crashing, but it is just a two-click installation.

For a 2003 game, that's well beyond what I expected. The last time I played Rise of Nations, my machine was still running Windows 7, with compatibility layers being more than enough to run it without issue. What's more, the Extended Edition supports all modern settings, meaning your 37-inch ultrawide monitor will have no problem displaying this game, and neither will the usual 25-inch 1440p screen.

It has a small but active and dedicated community, where you can look to find eager players for multiplayer sessions and pretend it's 2003 with a LAN party all set up for you to duke it out on its massive maps.

In Save File Sundays, I like to take a quick, holistic look at games and award them with a new rating (if we've ever reviewed them before) or give them their first grade, all these years down the line.

Rise of Nations is a title that I love far more than I could express, since it is a game that has shaped me into who I am today, allowing me to learn the English language much more efficiently at an early age, while providing me with a complex and intuitive gameplay loop to hone my dumb little brain.

Given its massive content library, incredibly fun gameplay, and an RTS formula we never saw before or since, I have to grade Rise of Nations as a 9/10 game, one just shy of perfection that could have been achieved with a sequel or new title in the series that'd take advantage of modern development and technologies to create something far beyond what any RTS has ever been.

It's also getting a 10/10 on the Nostalgia Factor due to its allowing you to see what it was the cool kids were playing in 2003 on cathode screens at back-alley internet cafés.

Oh, and there's also Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, too, but that one's for another time.

Hollow Knight Silksong has plenty of merchants offering key items to help you complete your adventures.

Hornet performs a double jump in Hollow Knight Silksong.

Among the many mobility-focused abilities Hornet can acquire in Hollow Knight: Silksong, being able to double jump (or Air Jump) is among the best, no matter if you are looking to style on some bosses or speedrun some bothersome platforming sections.

But unlike the Swift Step and the Clawline, the ability is not tied to an Ancestral Art and instead can only be unlocked by acquiring the Faydown Cloak. Here's how to upgrade your cloak and get the ability to double jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Faydown Cloak location in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong's Faydown Cloak.
Screenshot by Destructoid

You can get the Faydown Cloak in Hollow Knight Silksong by reaching the top of Mount Fay and calling for its deity, a feat you can only accomplish after acquiring all of the Ancestral Arts (Swift Step, Cling Grip, Needolin, and Clawline). Hornet is also going to slowly freeze when outside of protected barriers or sources of warmth during the climb. So time will be at the essence. Here's a quick guide on how to reach the top and a rough outline of the path you must take.

  • After entering the region from The Slab's southmost Fast Travel station, head to the cliff on the utmost left.
  • Talk to Shakra to purchase the Mount Fay map before heading to the exit directly above her camp.
  • Platform up until you reach the top of the cliff.
  • Continue west before dropping down and entering a passageway on the left. Don't fall all the way!
  • Stay on your path to break a rock wall and reach the area's second bench.
  • Platform northeast from the bench before exiting the area and dropping down the thorn-filled passage.
  • Head right all the way and platform up to reach the next area. Make sure to rest on its bench.
  • Make use of the walls and enemies to continue upward toward the next area.
  • Wall jump before heading left toward a gust of wind.
  • Ride the wind to reach the top.
  • Play the Needolin to get the Flaydown Cloak.

Upon acquiring the ability to Air Jump, Hornet will no longer be afflicted with cold. So feel free to explore the area.

Three Bags Full book cover

Fun takes on genre fiction can be simply delightful. Fantasy but X, sci-fi but Y: pairings like this offer unique settings and rulesets for author and reader to get entangled in. So is the case with Three Bags Full, a crime story focusing on a flock of sheep who try to figure out who is responsible for the death of their shepherd.

Fluffy mysteries all around

In a sleepy Irish village, lonely shepherd George Glenn tends to a very unusual flock. From smartypants to philosophers, raging rams with mysterious pasts and cloud-loving thinkers, these are the perfect sheep to have if you want to figure out a human homicide.

With the first chapter, titled Othello Boldly Grazes Past, the story begins thus:

"'He was healthy yesterday,' said Maude. Her ears twitched nervously.

'That doesn't mean anything,' pointed out Sir Ritchfield, the oldest ram in the flock. 'He didn't die of an illness. Spades are not an illness.'"

And with this astute observation, the story sets off in earnest.

Of course, the village is not as sleepy as it looks. Armed with a very limited understanding of human nature and psychology, the sheep embark on a hilarious adventure where they hop from misunderstanding to misunderstanding, still inadvertently pushing the plot along. Around them, the human cast tells a story of an almost Scandinavian crime-like slow burner of a saga with surprisingly high stakes considering the sleepy setting. As the sheep have no idea what is truly going on, the humans also can't fathom (or expect) that the flock is an active participant in the events that transpire. It's a comedy of errors, full of dramatic irony, and a delightful bit of fun.

It is also an impressive authorial tightrope walk, layering the story in a way where no one is working with full information until the very end, and it's the reader who actually has the most of the cards throughout—though not enough to fully piece together what was going on until the very end.

Baa-nal? Not at all

That said, if you are looking for action in your fiction, you have come to the wrong place. (It is a book about sheep solving their shepherd's murder, so what were you expecting?) But if you enjoy the classic "small town where everyone has secrets" setting, especially featuring the British countryside—think Broadchurch but fun—then this slow burn of a bleat comes highly, highly recommended.

Anthea Bell's translation does a great job of maintaining the tone, despite the obvious differences in linguistic function between the original German prose and its English reimagining. The change of the original title—Glennkill, which is perhaps a bit too on the nose, even though it also refers to the name of the village where the story takes place—is an acceptable sacrifice, too, considering how it lines up better with the follow-up book's variant on the theme.

Big Bad Wool cover art

Yes, if you want a second helping, you're in luck: The book's sequel, titled Big Bad Wool in English, has finally been translated this summer, sixteen years after the original. While it's more on the thriller side of things rather than mystery, it is still advertised as "a sheep detective story," so caveat emptor on that one. That one is on my to-read list right now, so expect me to revisit Miss Maple and co. at some point later in the year.

BitLife Hawk Tooey challenge

It's official—another TikTok meme has made its way into BitLife. The Hawk Tooey challenge is full of peculiar objectives, from becoming a famous social media star to getting in trouble with the law. It's tough, but at least you'll earn lots of money.

BitLife's Hawk Tooey challenge has five objectives to complete:

BitLife Hawk Tooey challenge guide

BitLife's Hawk Tooey challenge doesn't require any special career packs or expansions. However, you can make it much easier by purchasing the Mafia career pack and creating a character with a criminal special talent. It's not mandatory, but it'll help with the challenge's embezzlement task.

Be born a female in Tennessee

Our first objective is to create a female character born in Tennessee. When starting this run, choose female as your gender, the United States as your country, and Nashville as your starting place. Nashville is Tennessee's capital, making it a great starting spot for this challenge. You can also pick Memphis or Chattanooga if you want to spice things up.

Although not required for the challenge, equipping the criminal special talent while making your character will make it much easier to complete a future task. You can still commit in-game crimes without it, but you'll get caught by the police more often, making it a much slower process overall.

Become a famous social media influencer

Once your character turns 13, she'll unlock social media through your in-game Assets menu. Create at least one social media account before posting regularly. Your first few posts are almost guaranteed to attract a few followers, but our goal is to have one go viral.

Each time you create a social media post in BitLife, there's a small chance it'll go viral. This'll net you a substantial boost in followers, bringing you much closer to becoming famous. You can also apply for verification once you reach around 10,000 followers on your chosen platform, making it slightly easier to gain followers consistently.

Since acquiring fame through other means won't count toward this task, you'll need to rely on this and continue making posts until your character reaches stardom as a famous social media influencer. This can take a few decades, especially if you forget to post for a few years, so don't worry if you don't achieve this right away.

Embezzle $1,000,000

Our B-plot for BitLife's Hawk Tooey challenge involves graduating from high school, enroling in university, and then embezzling from a job. The easiest way to do this is to pursue a business-related degree, such as economics or finance, before applying for either a corporate or banking position.

Once you land the job, you'll find the option to embezzle by heading into Activities, Crime, and Embezzle. With a normal job, you'll only be able to embezzle a "teeny bit" of money with each attempt, making this $1,000,000 goal very tedious. However, corporate and banking jobs unlock the "an awful lot" option, netting you anywhere between $15,000 and $20,000 with each successful attempt. Continue doing this until you reach over one million.

Plead "Not Guilty" and win

As your BitLife character embezzles money from their job, you'll eventually need to get caught for the crime. This is mostly random, with your criminal special talent reducing the odds of your coworkers or police finding out. While this sounds counterintuitive, someone will likely discover your plan before you reach $1,000,000.

Once a coworker or police officer catches your character embezzling money, cooperate with the police and hire the best lawyer possible before starting your trial. Choose not guilty for a chance to receive zero negative consequences for your actions. If it doesn't work, you can either close and reopen your BitLife app or wait out your sentence, emigrate to another country, and repeat the process with a new job.

Hook up with five or more people

Our last task is much more straightforward than the previous few. To complete it, head into Activities, Love, and Hook Up before finding someone to spend a special night with. Whether you protect yourself is entirely up to you. Repeat this five times to finish this final objective.

Becoming a famous social media influencer, embezzling money from an in-game company, and hooking up with the game's NPCs will complete BitLife's Hawk Tooey challenge. Kratos looking at the camera in God of War.

Video game movie and TV adaptations are all the craze these days, and it's no wonder Sony is chasing that bag with a God of War series. Kratos has been in stasis for the past three years following the announcement, though it seems the show will start filming soon.

As per Nexus Point News, Amazon's God of War TV show will reportedly begin filming in March 2026, nearly four years after being announced in December 2022. The series is currently undergoing casting, with Ronald D. Moore to serve as showrunner. Moore is known for his work on Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek, with decades of experience under his belt, so we can only hope that he'll be able to bring the Son of Olympus to the little screens in a faithful manner.

Nexus Point News also indicates that this God of War show will follow the rebooted GoW timeline, i.e., the one set in Scandinavia and following Kratos and his son Atreus as they traverse the many worlds of the Norse religion.

The show saw a bit of a production hell leading up to this new development, with a reboot occurring last year. However, four years after the fact, we are finally (almost) certain that the series is real and will be coming... at some point.

Video game movie and TV adaptations have been on the rise recently, with many successful franchises brought to life in stellar live-action. From The Last of Us to Fallout, we've been getting some pretty nice adaptations, which marks a sharp turning point for video game adaptations, which were perhaps the most stigmatized form of media out there.

Hornet, as seen in Hollow Knight Silksong.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, despite being an overall amazing game, is still a Soulslike at heart. What does that mean? Well, it's challenging and will test your skills at almost every corner. However, knowing that, some people are going as far as to review bomb the game.

As time has gone by, Silksong's review aggregation on Steam (I excluded Chinese and other ones that were proven to be review-bombing the game en masse for trivial reasons) has been decreasing. From 80% positive yesterday to 77% positive today, there is a clear downward trend in the reviews. This is out of 93,296 reviews at the time of writing, so a pretty substantial sample size.

Scouring the negative reviews beneath the game's Steam page, I've noticed one primary theme: difficulty. Players are complaining, and not in small numbers, mind you, that Silksong is way too difficult, bordering on unfair. There are several gauntlets in the game, mandatory ones, which can drain your energy pretty quickly; traps are laid out at unpredictable and untelegraphed locations; some enemies can do two health points of damage instead of one, while you can only heal for three by default, and so on.

Additionally, the Rosaries and other currencies are so obscure and hard-to-get but easy-to-lose, leaving most players completely broke for the majority of the game and locking them out of items crucial and otherwise (like maps, markers, etc).

Silksong is quite a challenging game, but still awesome. Screenshot by Destructoid

All of these are valid concerns, and some I myself would include in criticizing the game, which still doesn't deserve a negative review or a bad score (for reasons I've outlined in my feature about Silksong, which I ask you kindly to check out).

Here is what some negative reviews have to say, though, so you be the judge of whether they're right or justified:

"Unfortunately it's a torturing experience for me so far," said one, citing a lack of checkpoints and massive runbacks to bosses, who are also pretty difficult. "Balance is completely gone as way too many things do two masks of damage... bosses have really tedious runbacks... [while] 90 percent of save points and fast travel spots cost money," expressed another.

"There is a lot to like here, but the game has weird, fundamental issues that make it overall annoying to play instead of fun," added another still, highlighting the overwhelming nature of the game's combat, which usually requires you to use a lot of items and tools, i.e., everything you have during every encounter.

And these are just some out of nearly 13,000 negative reviews the game currently sports (in the English language).

As more time passes, more will be inclined to comment on the game and dwell on the idea of recommending it, giving us a clearer picture of player sentiment when it comes to Silksong and, particularly, its (un)fair difficulty and challenges.
