In May this year, despite being deep in development on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, CD Projekt revealed that they'd be whipping out one more patch for The Witcher 3 in honour of its tenth birthday. Said update was originally set to drop in 2025, but has now been pushed back into 2026.

It's a little bit of an extra wait for cross-platform mod support, and given what the studio have been like witch Cyberpunk 2077's seemingly never-ending string of last updates, I'm not ruling out them having secretly decided to add more new stuff to the RPG masterpiece while they're at it.

I don't massively feel the need for a new version of Dead Space 2, even following EA's posh remake of the first, but if you've been dreaming of another visit to the game's sprawling interstellar necropolis, you could do worse than to check out the community-brewed Marker Patch.

Primarily created by Wemino, whose other projects include tune-ups for bullet-time shooter F.E.A.R. and American McGee's Alice, it's a cure-all bundle of fixes for various issues with the game's PC release, including problems created by running it at higher frame-rates on heavier-duty 10 core PCs. Vemino has also increased the max number of genuinely dead Necromorphs that can be present in the environment, forced anisotropic filtering throughout, and added options to stop the game automatically connecting to online services that are no longer offered by EA.

After weeks of discovering new layers and playstyles, I have no idea how to summarise Rise of the White Sun, except perhaps "It's 1920s China! Good luck!" Playable factions include major political blocs, conventional military behemoths, petty warlords, peasant uprisings, foreign stooges, and multiple communist cells (particularly in the recent DLC). There's even a police chief, and my inevitable favourite, the angry mountain lady who cares for none of that, and only wants to raid everyone's cattle.

This is an absurdly rich and complex grand strategy wargame. But where that usually means an unmanageable deposit, White Sun's greatest design strength is fitting its possibilities into a framework where they feel comprehensible, and remain manageable at any scale.

Earlier this month, fan-made revival project The Crew Unlimited, brought Ubisoft's decommissioned racer The Crew back to life in server emulated PC form. Now, its devs have put out an update outlining a couple of things they're working on to try and take things to the next level.

This looks to be the first time the group have been able to catch their breath since releasing The Crew Unlimited on September 15th, having had to work flat out on fixes for teething issues in the immediate aftermath. Some of those problems stemmed from some players having acquired broken versions of The Crew's game files from "shady sources", with TCU's devs saying they aren't responsible for the server emulator not working in these cases.

Another day, another Borderlands 4 update aiming to smooth out more of the performance problems which have plagued the looter shooter since launch, especially on PC. Unfortuntely, this latest patch looks to have led to an uptick in stuttering for some players, with Gearbox recommending some shader messing around as a potential fix.

Silent Hill f interview

We get to go through an entirely new Silent Hill game this month, with Silent Hill f taking the series to Japan and incorporating architectural designs, weapons, enemy designs, and lore into the experience. It's a big deal! To help better understand what to expect from this entry, Siliconera spoke with Silent Hill series Producer Motoi Okamoto about its design, inspirations, and gameplay elements.

Jenni Lada: Silent Hill f is the third entry with a female lead after Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill: The Short Message. How did Heather and Anita influence Hinako and design decisions for this installment?

Motoi Okamoto: I have not been influenced by those two characters. From the perspective of overseeing the series, we are constantly exploring themes and protagonists that are representative of the key elements of Silent Hill. In Silent Hill f, the story is set in an era of strong oppression against women, but the protagonist, Hinako, is portrayed as a strong woman who resists oppression and asserts her own will.

Silent Hill games often act as both an introspective look at society as well as an examination of character's actions and possible own sins, with both Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill: The Short Message both doing so. How did Japan's history and culture help shape Silent Hill f's story?

Okamoto: Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan, a time when oppression against women was stronger than it is today. The history and culture of oppression against women in Japan during that era form the backdrop of this work. 

In this game, players can experience various forms of oppression against women. However, the protagonist, Hina, is undoubtedly a character who possesses the strength to resist such oppression. Through gameplay, players should be able to feel the courage and strength of women who stand up against oppression.

Hinako is seen using weapons like a naginata and pipe in Silent Hill f footage. How did you decide which weapons to use, and then also work in movesets that feel realistic for a high school girl to be performing?

Okamoto: The iron pipe was a traditional weapon in the series, so it was decided from the start. For other weapons, the development studio NeoBards Entertainment designed them to ensure combat actions had rich variety. Especially in the Otherworld, we prioritized fun over realism, allowing weapons like the Naginata to be used. NeoBards Entertainment is a team with extensive experience developing action games, so we could confidently entrust them with the full experience.

Crimson Spider Lilies appear frequently throughout Silent Hill f. While I'm sure these will also act as a sort of symbolism, how did you also weave the color schemes and design elements of it into other parts of the game?

Okamoto: This work was designed around the concept of "find the beauty in terror," incorporating floral motifs extensively to symbolize beauty. Due to the large user response to the floral motifs shown in the teaser trailer which debuted in 2022, we increased the amount of floral elements throughout the game. The development team has carefully listened to user feedback throughout development of this title. 

In some of the early Silent Hill f art, we've seen a yokai that resembles a rokurokubi. How did you determine which kinds of yokai would be well-suited for a Silent Hill game, and is there any particular one you felt really needed to be present?

Okamoto: There are illustrated scrolls which appear in the game that feature traditional Japanese yokai. However, all monsters/enemies that appear in this game are linked to Hinako's trauma and inner conflicts, with designs that relate to the overall story.

In some Silent Hill games, such as Downpour, we also saw additional quests we could take on in the towns. Will Hinako be able to take on additional quests in Silent Hill f?

Okamoto: The ending is the same throughout the first playthrough, but subsequent playthroughs branch into multiple different endings. Designed for repeated play, later playthroughs introduce new explorable areas and new bosses. 

Will Silent Hill f continue the tradition of offering multiple endings?

Okamoto: Silent Hill f includes a total of 5 endings, including the series' signature UFO ending. The ending is the same throughout the first playthrough, but in subsequent playthroughs, it is possible to reach multiple different endings. From the second playthrough onwards, the story changes depending on Hinako's actions and choices, leading to different bosses and story developments in the final ending.

Silent Hill f is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC worldwide.

Gadgets are the difference makers in Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, and deciding which ones to use and which are the best is sometimes the difference between finishing a race first or second.

You unlock more Gadget Slots by completing races both online and offline, and once you have all six unlock, it's time to start putting them to use by purchasing and unlocking new Gadgets to equip to fit your playstyle for a particular character, track, or Grand Prix.

But which ones are the best? And which should you be looking to use?

The best Gadgets to use in Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

The list is somewhat subjective, but we have compiled a list of gadgets that we believe are the best, along with their functions and how to obtain them. Take your pick as to which one you think best complements your playstyle!

For some explanation, most of my choices have centered around a speedy, aggressive playstyle. For example, increasing the Ring Limit gives you more max speed the more Rings you collect, so having it is a no-brainer. The increase in Drift Charge also helps that acceleration boost you need to stay ahead of the competition.

The Collision Boost, in particular, is ideal for online matches where players frequently collide with one another. It's bound to happen, and you'll come out of it faster than your opponents, and it could be a difference maker if you want to take out the competition on the way to your victory.

As for both Speed Tuners and Acceleration Tuners. These will also increase your speed, but have an added effect of being useful if you use a Speed or Acceleration-based car. I've included both options to accommodate both playstyles, so ideally, you use the one associated with the vehicle and character you choose.

Realistically, though, most Gadgets in-game have their uses, and while some are really bad, try mixing and matching some of the ones we picked with some of your favorites to compete at the highest level. Then prepare to take on the world.

Megabonk has plenty of quests to complete as part of the game's main grind, and plenty of rewards are to be earned.

As of writing this article on Sept. 26, there are 236 quests to complete. These quests are divided into different categories. This guide will provide all the information required to complete these quests.

How to complete all quests in Megabonk

While every quest offers certain rewards, you must unlock them by completing their specific condition.

Character quests

What they unlock Quests
CL4NK Clear the Forest area at tier 1. This isn't a challenging task, but having higher attack speed will ease your attempt.
Bush You'll come across Bush in the Forest region. To add him to your shop, you'll need to defeat him.
Bandit Like Bush, you'll have to find and defeat Bandit in the Desert region.
Megachad Upgrade your Damage tome to level 7 or higher.
Monke You'll find him in the Forest. Once found, simply release him.
Ninja You'll have to obtain the Katana, which has a 5% drop rate from Desert Tumbleweed. Unlocking this character depends a lot on RNG.
Vlad Complete the Desert biome in tier 2.

When you are playing Sonic Racing CrossWorlds for the first time, you might notice an inaccessible menu known as Friendships that doesn't appear to unlock, no matter how far you play. While the mode may seem a bit magical at first glance, there is a reason it takes some time to appear.

And while it might seem helpful, you might be regretting unlocking it when you realize how much of a grind you are in for.

How to unlock Friendships mode

Friendships unlock after the player wins all the game's main Grand Prix modes. This doesn't include the Secret Grand Prix, which unlocks simultaneously with Friendship mode.

You can beat the following Grand Prix on any difficulty, but you need to have completed them on every mode, so playing the hardest difficulty will automatically count as completing the modes underneath it, so tackle them as you see fit:

  • Donpa (E-Stadium, Rainbow Garden, and Water Palace races)

  • Wisp (Metal Harbor, Sand Road, and Colorful Mall races)

  • Boom Boo (Mystic Jungle, Apotos, and Wonder Museum races)

  • Pumpkin (Crystal Mine, Ocean View, and Pumpkin Mansion races)

  • Coral (Urban Canyon, Market Street, and Coral Town races)

  • Crystal (Blizzard Valley, Radical Highway, and Chao Park races)

  • Egg (Donpa Factory, Aqua Forest, and Eggman Expo races)

What does Friendships reward you with

Not a lot, really. It's here where you find out that Friendship is about using those hard-earned Donpa tickets to invest in every character in-game to unlock special items themed around them.

Each character has five Friendship levels, which unlock a Basic Title, Character Sticker, Enhanced Sticker, Advanced Cosmetic, and Special Title. The more tickets you invest into them.

To get everything is a bit of a grind, so try to focus more on the characters you want, unless you are a completionist destined to try and get everything on offer.
