When you review a game, if you don't know anyone else that's also reviewing it, it can be a bit difficult to guess how it might be received overall. There's normally some assumptions you can make, but with a series like Silent Hill, a series where the general consensus is all over the place from game to game, it's certainly not easy to predict. I myself ended up being quite fascinated by Silent Hill f in my review of it, but in a recent interview series producer Motoi Okamoto said that despite an overall positive reception, you shouldn't expect every consequent game to be just like it.

Right, there's just a constant wall of bad news at the moment, so how about something a bit nicer. Earlier this year, Summerfall Studios announced that the Kickstarter for their demonic roguelike deckbuilder Malys didn't work out, so they'd be releasing it in early access instead. Much like Kickstarters themselves, early access releases are risky business too, but it appears that at the very least it's worked well enough to grant the game a 1.0 release.

Fallout 76's upcoming winter map expansion, Burning Springs, wears its Fallout TV show trappings loudly and proudly, as you can read about in our full preview. That's not necessarily a bad thing: many players rightly took issue with Bethesda providing very little fresh Fallout to jump into after they watched the show's debut series last year.

However, Burning Springs, with its "total tonal tandem" with the upcoming season two, seemingly represents a U-turn for how Bethesda see their online survival-ish RPG meshing with the TV series - and how they might capitalise on the boom in Fallout popularity that it's helped usher in.

"Deserts, deathclaws, and raiders", alongside a "New Vegas feel" with Walton Goggins' Ghoul as the face. These are the main ingredients for Fallout 76's Burning Springs map expansion, which is set to arrive in early December this year.

In case you weren't clear as to how Bethesda are pitching it, a hands-off preview attended by RPS saw 76 creative director Jon Rush introduce Burning Springs thusly: "Based on the success of season one of the Fallout Show, we can expect to see several million players returning to Appalachia for season two. People [who] have seen the show and want more of that storytelling, more of that New Vegas feel will get it all in Fallout 76: Burning Springs. Burning Springs is in total tonal tandem with season two."

Next FFVII Static Arts Figure Is Aerith in Her Rebirth Swimsuit

A new Final Fantasy Static Arts figure is on the way, and it means we'll see a FFVII Rebirth Aerith swimsuit version item arrive in February 2026. While the Japanese eStore and US storefront aren't  showing it yet, stores like AmiAmi already shared a listing. That storefront is selling it for 26,730円/$180.46. There's no worldwide release window yet, but we will likely see it everywhere just like other Static Arts ones. This will be the second figure of the character in the line.

As this is a Static Arts figure, it is locked in one pose and doesn't come with any additional face plates or parts. It will stand at over 10 inches tall (260mm). The base also features water on it, to make it look like she's walking in the ocean at Costa del Sol.

Here are the first photos of Aerith in the Floral Delight swimsuit.

A lot of FFVII Remake and Rebirth characters showed up in the Static Arts collection so far. In addition to Aerith, we've seen ones of Cloud in his normal attire and Wall Market dress and three variations of Tifa in her dress, exotic dress, and sporty dress.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available for the PS5 and PC worldwide, and the Static Arts figure of Aerith in her swimsuit will launch in Japan in February 2026.

FFXI Congestion Measures Coming to Bahamut World

Square Enix is dealing with congestion issues in another Final Fantasy MMORPG, and this time it means measures are being taken to make it easier for FFXI folks to play on the Bahamut World and try to more evenly distribute traffic among servers. As a result, Producer and Director Yoji Fujito announced three measures will be enacted starting on October 9, 2025, in the hopes it will help with the population density and demand.

Fugito said three steps will be taken. The two major ones keep us from playing on the Bahamut World in FFXI, as they limit access to the server to prevent congestion. People who don't already have characters there will not be able to make new characters on that World. It will also not be possible to use the Character World Transfer Service to move an existing character to there. To also incentivize playing and starting on other servers, Square Enix is halting the Vana'diel Adventurer Recruitment Program promotion, which nets you things like the Copper AMAN Vouchers, Guild Beret, and Sprout Beret for giving out Gold World Passes to get friends to play, on Bahamut.

This marks two FFXI Worlds that are now subject to the congestion measures, as Asura already experienced these kinds of initiatives. Square Enix announced the population boom negatively affected player experience on that server back in July 2025. As a result, it carried out these same initiatives. Yoji Fujito noted that World is also still experiencing issues and, as a result, is still under the same limits.

There are 23 Worlds available in the game, which are servers the MMORPG players can create characters on or move to. Asura, which filled up first in 2025, is the "newest." Bahamut is among the oldest ones currently active.

Final Fantasy XI is available for PCs, and the Bahamut World will experience congestion mitigation initiatives starting on October 9, 2025.

Play Goo-Goo Babies With Umamusume Super Creek Nendoroid

Among the Good Smile Company Nendoroid FUNS Autumn 2025 reveals was the confirmation that a Super Creek Umamusume figure is in development. She's one of the ones that is earliest along, as only official art of the character from the game and anime series appeared in the YouTube reveal.

While we don't get to see concept art for the Super Creek Umamusume Nendoroid, there are some hints about what to expect for the figure. She will be wearing her signature racing outfit. In-game, she's a two-star Trainee, which means she doesn't automatically arrive with that costume. She wears the default Tracen uniform and performance costume until you rank her up to a three star. This is also based on her standard performance attire and doesn't take her alt into consideration.

Super Creek is known for running Medium and Long races on Turf. She works best as a Pace Chaser, though you can get her to be a good Late Surger through inheriting skills from other characters. The Trainee and her Support Card are known for her Support abilities, most notably Corner Recovery and its enhanced version Swinging Maestro. Super Creek is also known for being a motherly kind of character and, in the worldwide release, likes to play "goo-goo babies" where she'll talk to the Trainer like a baby.

This announcement comes really shortly after Good Smile Company asked which Umamusume characters we'd like to see turned into figures like Nendoroids and figmas. It put out the call back in August 2025, not too long after the game debuted worldwide.

Here's the full Nendoroid FUNS Autumn 2025 showcase:

Digimon Story: Time Stranger Anime Short and Launch Patch Revealed

Bandai Namco announced two pieces of news tied to Digimon Story: Time Stranger tied to its launch, with one being a day-one patch with quality-of-life features and the other an anime short. The update will be available when the game launches on October 3, 2025. Meanwhile, Digimon Story: Time Stranger Prelude is "coming soon."

The launch patch will be a necessary day one acquisition for Digimon Story: Time Stranger players who went through the demo. You can't transfer the save from the trial to the full game unless you grab this update. It also allows someone to dash in the field. While stat-boosting items can be found in chests and dungeons, those will also be in human world field areas too. A number of in-battle adjustments like rebalancing, updated guest Digimon behaviors, and Digivolution condition changes are present too.

Here's the full list of launch patch notes for the day one Digimon: Time Stranger update from Bandai Namco:

  • System

    • Added functionality to transfer save data from the demo version.
    • Adjusted tutorial text and added images for certain sections.
    • Changed default frame rate to 60 fps for the Steam version.
    • Changed default voice language from Japanese to English when starting the game in German.

  • Field

    • Added dash functionality.
    • Added encounter animation when facing hostile Digimon.
    • Added various stat-boosting items to maps in the human world.
    • Adjusted hostile Digimon placement balance.

  • Battle

    • Adjusted Digimon attacks to use more effective skills.
    • Added new icons based on buff/debuff strength.
    • Tweaked overall battle balance.
    • Adjusted parameters and digivolution conditions for certain Digimon.
    • Tuned parameters and behavior patterns for guest Digimon.
    • Adjusted effects of certain skills and Cross Arts.

  • Digivice

    • Changed level number color for Digimon that have reached the level cap on setup screens.
    • Added key help to jump directly to the Digiline screen when receiving a message from a partner Digimon.
    • Changed the menu accessed via the left function key from "Items" to "Missions."

  • Bug Fixes

    • Various usability improvements and minor fixes to backgrounds, models, and other small issues.

As for the Digimon Story: Time Stranger Prelude anime short, there's just a teaser for what it will entail. This will be a prequel. It will help establish Inori, our ally who works alongside our ADAMAS avatar throughout the story and acts as Aegiomon's partner. In the single image shared so far, she appears to be younger than she is when the story takes place.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger will be available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 3, 2025, alongside a day one launch patch, and a Prelude anime short will eventually appear.

Kagurabachi Gets a Nendoroid Before an Anime figure

During the Nendoroid FUNS 2025 figure reveals, Good Smile Company showed its Nendoroid of Kagurabachi hero Chihiro Rokuhira. The announcement showed two face plates and an accessory. It also confirmed it is already at the painted prototype stage. Currently, there is only a Kagurabachi manga running, and we've yet to see an anime for the series.

The figure has two face plates confirmed, with one being a stoic face and the other showing a bloody, in-battle expression. He wears his standard, all-black outfit. He will arrive wielding the Enchanted Blade Enten. The initial imagery also shows him holding it in different manners, highlighting the arm part options available.

You can see the brief segment of the Nendoroid FUNS 2025 showcase that looks at the Kagurabachi Chihiro Rokuhira figure at the 4:58 mark in the video footage below.

https://youtu.be/kq1ouvgd6SA?t=298

While there is no Kagurabachi anime yet, we could see news about that soon too. The official social media account seemed to tease something in September 2025, and Jump Festa 2026 will be held on December 20-21, 2025. New series announcements tend to come up during that event and, now that volume 9 of the manga is about to debut in Japan, there would be enough material to cover in a show.

There's no release window for the Kagurabachi Chihiro Rokuhira Nendoroid, as the figure is in development,

Review: Digimon Story: Time Stranger Is a Solid Game in the Series

The Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth JRPG and follow-up game Hacker's Memory ended up being two of the best titles based on the series in recent years and, fortunately, Bandai Namco is continuing that trend with Digimon Story: Time Stranger. It's really compelling and does some fun things by allowing us to explore both the human and Digimon worlds, solve a mystery that sends us back in time, and tap into a "collect 'em all" element by giving us tons of characters to collect. I feel like it's a strong follow-up to its predecessors.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger kicks off in the present, with our ADAMAS member avatar (either Dan or Kanan) investigating a major anomaly in Shinjuku. Part of the city has been walled off for years, and strange lifeforms have been cited as the cause of anomalies throughout the city. Our job is to investigate and protect civilians, which is difficult since there's for some reason an anime also based on people who wear outfits like ours? Upon heading in to provide aid to someone who somehow was authorized to contact our Digivice, we find a young woman who claims to know us. She insists we need to get to the top of the government building to aid someone else. When we get there, a massive explosion kicks off and we find ourselves eight years in the past. Our contact in the present (the person we didn't select as our character) said the whole world is heading toward destruction as the result of that event. Coincidentally, we officially "meet" that strange girl in the past after rescuing her! We end up staying with Inori and her father, meeting Aegiomon, and getting involved with a conflict between worlds to protect everyone and everything.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFEu9XOLmg0

If you played Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and its sequel, then Digimon Story: Time Stranger should feel relatively familiar as the game follows a similar sort of pattern. We begin by exploring Tokyo in the human world, encountering hostile Digimon in certain set areas or encounters, then eventually also gain access to the Digital World. There are quite a few areas to explore and, when you hit certain exit points, there are fast travel options to certain spots. (I preferred running and exploring, as there are a lot of incidental items you can pick up along the way for the DigiFarm or battles.) I will say that I think Iliad is the more visually interesting of the two. Human NPCs are rather nondescript and uninteresting and the human world, though generally accurate, felt a bit bland compared to the more vibrant and unusual Digital World. Though, that could also be because it was fun to see Digimon around and the effort put into ensuring those areas feel different, and the DigiRide mount system is fun.

Combat involves turn-based battles, and there's also a means of gaining initiative that feels really satisfying. When exploring, you can "investigate" to search for breakable walls, materials, or chests or send out a Digimon to attack. (There are even times when you'll need ones with certain elemental capabilities to trigger a situation.) The "attack" option can also be used on a Digimon seen in the field in a "dungeon" style situation. If the opponent is weak enough, you automatically get the experience for your characters and Convert data that builds toward acquiring it yourself. If it isn't enough to defeat it, you'll enter the turn-based fight, but will find the enemies' HP affected or fewer there because of your initial assault. It's great! (Also, said experience earned applies to the three characters in the front of your party, the three in reserve, and ones that happen to be in your general on-hand storage.)

During fights, UI is clear, the pacing is pretty good, and there are a lot of attacking options. Each character has innate Special Skills they just know. You can equip Attachment Skills, regardless of their innate type, to bolster a build. It's also possible to assign two pieces of equipment to each character. You can have them attack, use a skill, or guard, and it is also possible to have your agent change to a different reserve Digimon of the three on hand or use an item for that round. After using a Digimon for a while, it's also possible for an attack to multi-hit. You select actions on each character's turn. It's also possible to use a Cross Art to support your allies or attack if you spent Anomaly Points on Agent Skills, with even the initial Cross Art: Field ability that boosts stats for two turns being pretty great. I will say I appreciated being able to speed up animations once I hit around the ten hour mark, as battles started featuring full parties and lots of attack animations.

The Convert and Digivolution systems also really make Digimon Story: Time Strange feel compelling and encourage battling without making the grind feel too all-consuming. Requirements to reach new evolutions are quite clear, and they're typically reasonable given we can reach many by leveling up, others by saving and using items to bolster stats, and use the DigiFarm to influence builds. There's a handy history on a character's profile page, so you can see evolutions and devolutions. I will say the wait to reach Agent Rank 3 to finally Digivolve my starter felt like it took forever considering how many others I got to level up before that point, but the requirements feel like they make sense, are reasonable, and keep you from ending up being OP too early. (Unless you use the early unlock Special Agumon and Gabumon.) I do wish the requirements for Digivolving would be visible in DigiFarm, since I used that for filling gaps in my collection, and I think that could get tedious for completionists.

The funny thing is that I feel like the odd quirks in Digimon Story: Time Stranger are the things that get to be the biggest issues. There's a notification system that can alert you to sidequests or opportunities to automatically renew training at the DigiFarm. That's handy! Except I found those notifications go by far too quickly for me to catch and press the shortcut to immediately respond without going into the menu. And even if I did go into the menu, the UI isn't great about letting you know which ones are new and need addressing. The game also isn't great at letting you know when the three active Digimon in your party around you are able to talk so you can influence their personality! Sometimes, if I moved too suddenly in a dungeon style space where they would appear, I'd see a conversation icon pop up, but if I turned to face them, the prompt wouldn't show. I'd really need to find a clear, open, safe space and sometimes inch around folks to trigger the option. The story pacing can feel a bit off at times, especially during the first five hours, so it takes a bit of time to "pick up" even though everything going on can be pretty interesting! Speaking of pacing, it's also a bit annoying when for "story reasons" our avatar is prevented from running at their typical gait and forced to walk. (Though this doesn't happen all that often.)

It also bothered me that our character is a silent protagonist. Dan and Kanan both have voice actors when you don't choose one of them and they act as a supporting cast member. But once you select your avatar, you'll see their mouth move after selecting dialogue options. They're clearly saying the line you chose. However, Bandai Namco didn't choose to actually have them be voiced. So there will be these awkward gaps in conversations where we'll "watch" them respond and everyone else will talk, but they never speak. I get not voicing everything, but some critical story moment audio clips would have been nice.

Also annoying is that the Jogmon card game in Digimon Story: Time Stranger isn't fun! I was so excited when a kid wanted me to pass along a deck to Aegiomon. Digimon Card Game is great, if you've never had a chance to try it, and I hoped that maybe this meant a "lite" version of it would be included. Nope! What's here is really bland and involves fake Digivices and cards representing characters with different power levels and types assigned to them. You drop one on your device on your turn and hope it's stronger than the other. It lasts five rounds, with one card played each round and "winning" or "losing," and the side with the most wins… wins. The aesthetics for the devices and character sprites are great, but it's so disappointing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICCFACvxF84

Though those elements are annoying, playing Digimon Story: Time Stranger on a handheld gaming PC isn't! I played on a Lenovo Legion Go, and it felt absolutely perfect. The framerate seemed pretty consistent throughout, which was my main concern, and it felt like it stayed around 60fps. It looked great too. The textures are on-point and all of the Digimon especially "popped."

Some minor hiccups aside, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is both a solid game in the series and the kind of JRPG that incentivizes experimentation due to the range of characters available. I loved playing around with Digivolution and the DigiFarm to create some exceptional allies. It was a shame that there are some minor pacing issues and notifications might not do as good of a job actually notifying me about things. There's a strong foundation here with a lot of potential to build well-rounded armies of Digimon to help you face all of the game's challenges.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger will come to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 3, 2025.

Ace Combat S The Symphony 30th Anniversary official banner

Bandai Namco has published more details on the upcoming Ace Combat 30th anniversary concert. The company has also opened the first wave of lottery sales of the Ace Combat/S The Symphony 30th Anniversary tickets for Smart Ticket users in Japan, which will cost ¥12,000 (~$81.60) apiece.

Some of the series' titles that will have their tracks represented in this concert will be Ace Combat 2, Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies, Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, and Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

The company had previously held the first orchestra concert in October 2021, and it used to form an original orchestra group with the series' composer Keiki Kobayashi as the conductor. For the new concert, Bandai Namco will enlist the services of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, led by the seasoned conductor Hirofumi Kurita. A special band will also appear to perform the rock tracks from Ace Combat 2 and other entries.

However, while the 2021 concert was available worldwide via online streaming, Bandai Namco has yet to confirm whether the upcoming 2026 concert will be available to watch outside the physical venue.

Additionally, Bandai Namco set up the concert's logo in such a way that it leaves a spot for an unannounced game. The company has been working on a new Ace Combat game with ILCA since 2021. The announcements during the series' 30th anniversary day on June 30, 2025, also included development scenes for the new game as a teaser.

The Ace Combat/S The Symphony 30th Anniversary concert will take place at the Saitama Kaikan Grand Hall in Japan on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Chadwell standing in the selection screen and using the Hero Sword.

Sir Chadwell is a pain to build in Megabonk because his Corrupted Sword is arguably the worst weapon in the entire game. Playing with Chadwell in most of the early game revolves around finding any other weapons that aren't plain garbage to start farming mobs for real and leveling up.

There's a light at the end of the tunnel, though. If you give him Weapons and Tomes that thrive with Size and Projectile Count, even the Corrupted Sword won't look that bad. Here's the best build to run with Sir Chadwell.

Best weapons to use with Sir Chadwell

Type Best Good
Weapons Corrupted Sword (Starter)
Dexecutioner
Flamewalker
Bananarang
Aegis
Aura
Katana
Hero Sword
Tomes Size Tome
Damage Tome
XP Tome
Luck Tome
Quantity Tome
Cooldown Tome
Bloody Tome
Items Moldy Cheese
Backpack
Turbo Socks
Gym Sauce
Credit Card (Green)
Slippery Ring

Dexecutioner, Bananarang, and Flamewalker are the best Weapons to use with Sir Chadwell. All of them get better with Size and Projectile Count buffs from Tomes, Items, and Shrine upgrades, but deal more damage in a larger area than the Corrupted Sword. Bananarang, despite being a ranged projectile, is incredibly effective at dealing area damage and protecting Chadwell. Aura, Katana, and Aegis are other decent close-range Weapons for protection, while Hero Sword is worth picking if the other options are nowhere to be seen.

Chadwell's low starting damage means you might have to pick a weapon as early as level one or two, and the ones offered might not be one of the choices I've listed. If that happens, check which of your options scale with Size and Projectile Count, and pick it.

Best Tomes, and items to use with Sir Chadwell

Size, Damage, XP, and Luck Tomes are Sir Chadwell's best Tome picks. Size will increase the area of Corrupted Sword and other Weapons I've suggested, and the Damage Tome is a must for scaling in the mid to late game, though it can be replaced with Cooldown Tome for extra attack speed. XP and Luck Tomes are essentials for deep runs in Tiers 1 and 2, while Quantity and Bloody Tomes are good if you can't find the other options.

It's common to skip the Cursed Tome with Sir Chadwell because his leveling up already increases difficulty. That means the XP Tome becomes a two-in-one and plays the same role as the Cursed Tome, freeing that slot for something else.

Moldy Cheese, Backpack, Gym Sauce, and Turbo Socks are great low-rarity items that will fix Sir Chadwell's low damage and movement speed in the early game. As you progress further, the usual overpowered and rare items like Ice Cube and Giant Forks are welcome additions.

Sir Chadwell may still be frustrating to play with. If that's the case, try one of our other best Megabonk builds with a different character.

Standing in front of halloween dream castle in disney dreamlight valley

The Dream Castle is the focal point of the main village in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and as of the Return to Beast's Castle update, you can now give it a new look using Dream Castle skins. It's a bit of a tricky feature to use, though.

When you acquire a new style for your castle, you're not told how to equip it, which makes using it a bit difficult. If you're eager to give your valley a new look, here's how to change the Dream Castle skin in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to change Dream Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Hovering over the dream castle to change it in ddv
Screenshot by Destructoid

You can change the Dream Castle skin by selecting the "Replace" option while hovering over this building in Furniture Mode. This is a bit of a tough option to get, as precision is necessary to make it appear. Here's a full step-by-step breakdown of how to tackle this endeavor.

  • Unlock a new Dream Castle skin. The option to change it only appears if you have at least one additional style unlocked.
  • Load Furniture Mode. The Dream Castle can only be modified from this menu.
  • Move your cursor to hover over the Dream Castle. You'll likely need to tilt the camera up a lot to perform this action, as the camera is quite finicky and you cannot hover over the Dream Castle from the default angle. Make sure you hover over the castle, not the central Plaza area with the wishing well, as you can click on this area too. It's attached to the castle, but appears to be available to decorate separately. There aren't any options to replace it yet, but it seems like there will be in the future.
  • Select the "Replace" option. Once you're hovering over the Dream Castle, this option will appear in the bottom right corner.
  • Choose the skin you want to apply. All of the available looks for the castle will pop up, so you can choose whichever one you like. You can freely change the appearance at any point, so don't worry too much if you want to switch it up later.

How to get Dream Castle skins in Disney Dreamlight Valley

As of the Return to Beast's Castle update, the only way to unlock new Dream Castle skins is by purchasing them from the Premium Shop with Moonstones. This might change in future updates, and if it does, we'll add additional details here.

All Dream Castle skins in Disney Dreamlight Valley

There are two Dream Castle skins you can use at the time of writing. For now, your options are limited, but more will likely arrive in future updates, so as they do, we'll add them to the list.

  • Default Village Castle – The base appearance of the castle, which is free and automatically applied to it by default.
  • Halloween Castle – A spooky, festive, Halloween variant of the Dream Castle that can be purchased from the Premium Shop for 3,500 Moonstones.

After you're done changing up the look of your Dream Castle, there are plenty of other quests to tackle. Next, you might work on unlocking Lumiere and Cogsworth, placing stalls in DLC worlds, and completing A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping.

Birdo using Tornado in Megabonk

Megabonk has certain characters with unorthodox play styles, and Birdo can be an excellent choice for a good player.

Birdo's biggest strength is his mobility, which allows him to move fast across the map. However, he's not without blemishes, which makes it essential to build him well.

How to unlock Birdo in Megabonk

The unlock condition for Birdo is slightly complicated, and it begins by unlocking Tornado. This is his signature weapon inside the game. To unlock Tornado, you must charge a Charge Shrine in the Desert region at least five times. Then, use it to kill 100 enemies.

While doing so, you'll have to be carried by it (using the Float ability) and be present in the Desert region. Once done, you can unlock Birdo from the shop with silver and work towards the following build.

Best Megabonk Birdo build

Let's look at the build first, and we will then get into the details.

Type Best Choices Good Choices
Weapons Tornado (Primary)
Bone
Aura
Lightning Staff
Revolver
Tomes Damage
Size
Attack Speed
Precision
Luck
Projectile Speed
Items Overpowered Lamp
Gym Sauce
Turbo Socks
Beefy Ring
Turbo Skates
Clover

For Birdo, your focus should be on building a crit-heavy build. He already has plenty of mobility, and Tornado becomes unstoppable when it scales up. Additionally, the weapon's passive allows you to float by pressing the jump button. You really don't need much mobility, but you can still add Turbo Socks to your list of items.

Birdo fighting enemies in Megabonk
Screenshot by Destructoid

Both Bone and Aura are excellent choices for different purposes. Bone complements the way Tornado works, while Aura takes care of leveling up. The passive XP you gain from Aura is incredible for most builds, especially for this one.

For tomes, Damage and Size are musts. The former increases the general damage from all sources, while the latter increases the size of the Tornado gusts (and kills enemies faster). Precision is essential to raise the critical chance of your build, while Attack Speed benefits all the other tomes mentioned here.

Overpowered Lamp is pretty important, given the elemental nature of the attacks. It will generate extra procs that will come to good use. Gym Sauce is standard for any build as it provides a consistent +10% buff to all forms of damage. If you get Turbo Socks, try finding Turbo Skates to convert the high movement stats into extra damage.

With Birdo, use the Float function as much as possible while traveling along the map. This will help you to stay clear of the enemies and not meet untimely deaths. Once scaled up, the Tornado is a fantastic weapon for clearing mobs. The rest will be taken care of by weapons like Bone and Aura, allowing you to go deep into

Birdo might be fun, but there are more characters to explore. We already have details about the best builds in Megabonk that will allow you to dominate against all enemies.

Cactus in the Desert on the left, the Cactus item in the unlocks window on the right

To complete the quest "Kill 100 cactus enemies with Thorns damage" in Megabonk, you'll need a lot of patience. Some details make completing this quest a bit trickier than it should be, but it's still possible as long as you have the right unlocks.

Before you keep reading, check if you have the minimum requirements to complete this quest. You'll need the Desert map on any tier and the Thorns Tome or Athena, preferably both. Athena gains two points of Thorns with every level, so using her lets you deal Thorns damage to Cactus even if you don't find the Thorns Tome. If you don't have her, the only way to get Thorns is with the Thorns Tome.

Best Megabonk build to kill 100 Cactus with Thorns

Type Best Good
Character Athena Sir Oofie
Weapons Aegis None
Tomes Armor Tome
Thorns Tome
Regen Tome
Shield Tome
HP Tome
Items Borgar
Oats
Medkit
Spiky Shield
Campfire

Athena is the best character to complete this quest with because her Lock In skill, which gives her two Thorns per level, saves you the headache of trying to drop a Thorns Tome. If you haven't unlocked her, you can try this quest with Sir Oofie due to his Armor.

Armor, Thorns, Regen, and Shield Tome are the best choices to complete the Cactus quest. Thorns will deal more damage to Cactus, letting you kill them faster and take less damage in the process. Armor will reduce damage taken, which is essential for Thorns builds. Shield is great for the extra total health, and Regen is a must if you want a safe way to heal at low health.

Borgar, Oats, and Medkit are all health and healing items that synergize well with this Thorns build. The Epic Spiky Shield works well with Sir Oofie, since it gives Thorns with Armor. If you can find a Campfire, it's also useful since you want to stand still and make it easy for every Cactus to reach you.

Cactus surrounding Sir Oofie in the Desert
Fight Thorns with Thorns. Screenshot by Destructoid.

Important tips to complete the Cactus quest

  • Cactus spawns are partly random. Not every Desert run will spawn a Cactus, and spawns change every minute in the early game. However, if you see no Cactus two minutes into a game, reset, because that means it will not spawn on that run.
  • Have as few weapons and attack speed as possible. The more weapons you have, the higher the chances they will kill Cactus before your Thorns damage.
  • Lifesteal doesn't heal with Thorns damage, which means you need to keep an eye on healing items and HP Regen upgrades to survive as long as possible using Thorns. You can still pick Bloody Tome for Lifesteal from weapon hits, though.

This guide will provide you with the complete list of rewards so you can be sure about using your fodder in this challenge.

Complete list of FC 26 Max. 86 Base Hero Upgrade SBC rewards

There are plenty of great cards you can pull from the SBC. However, you'll require almost 85,000 coins worth of fodder to complete the two tasks. Only try to complete this SBC if you have the necessary amount of disposable fodder. If not, it's better to save them for alternate use.

Standing by cheese on a table in Disney dreamlight valley

Disney Dreamlight Valley loves a good scavenger hunt, and the one Lumiere and Cogsworth send you on during the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest is rather tricky. In this mission, you must find all the Charcuterie Board ingredients.

You're not given any clues for where to look, and the Beast's castle is enormous and quite dark, so hunting for these items isn't easy. If this endeavor has you stumped, here are all the Charcuterie Board ingredient locations in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Explore the castle to find the Charcuterie Board ingredients in Disney Dreamlight Valley

There are five ingredients you need to find around the castle, including Oyster, Creepy Crawly Crab, Chilling Cucumber, Booyère Cheese, and Screamed Butter. Here's where to find each one so you can progress in the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest.

Oyster location in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The Oyster can be found inside a sparkling crate tucked away in the corner of the secret passage room you previously visited to make Fireplace Fuel during The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest. Interact with this crate to open it up and grab the Oyster from inside.

Creepy Crawly Crab location in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The Creepy Crawly Crab is in the same crate where you found the Oyster, so you can grab both items at the same time. It can be easy to overlook one of the two if you're working through this quest quickly, so make sure the crate is empty before you move on.

Chilling Cucumber location in Disney Dreamlight Valley

You can find the Chilling Cucumber sitting on a long table in the library. It's a pretty large room with lots of tables, so it can be a bit tricky to find the right one. The table with the Chilling Cucumber is decently close to the Globe you previously placed in the Belle, Book, and Candle quest and near the secret passage entrance. It's quite dark, and does blend in with the table fairly well, so look for the bright gold sparkleds ot spot it.

Booyère Cheese location in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The Booyère Cheese is on another table in the library, but this one is a bit different since it's a desk. You can find this desk in the corner on the left side of the fireplace. The desk is surrounded by stacks of books on the ground, and the Booyère Cheese is on the desk right in front of the ink and quill.

Booyère Cheese in ddv

Screamed Butter location in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The last item you need is the Screamed Butter, which is on yet another table in the library. This one is the easiest to spot, as it's sitting on an empty table right behind the couches facing the fireplace.

With all of these items obtained, you're one step closer to unlocking Lumiere and Cogsworth. There's still more work to be done, though, including the tricky task of placing the Rose Garlands.

Cogsworth and Lumiere are determined to throw you a grand party in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Before it can begin, you have to help them get it set up, which means you must place the Rose Garlands where they belong.

Most of the decoration and prep work for the party is fairly straightforward, but this task is tougher than you might expect. If you can't figure out how to get past this step, here's how to place the Rose Garlands in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

You can place the Rose Garlands in the hall near the windows during the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest by interacting with Cogsworth under the arches directly across from the piano. This spot is located right near the Realm entrance. The information you're given here is a bit misleading, as the wall really has fully open arches, not windows, so finding the right spot can be tough.

This task is also tough since you'd likely expect to be searching for a sparkling interaction point somewhere on the actual arches, not on Cogsworth himself. In all other quests, you don't interact with a character to place an item down, so this one is certainly out of the ordinary. Cogsworth does have some sparkles on him, but if you're looking around for a place to put the Rose Garlands, he's quite easy to overlook.

Since this task is unusual, it also seems to be a bit glitchy. I had to circle around Cogsworth many times and push him around a bit before the "Interact" option finally appeared. If you run into this issue, just keep moving around and try to face him from different angles until the option finally appears. If you still can't get it to show up, try completely restarting your game.

After interacting with Cogsworth, select the Rose Garlands in your inventory, followed by the "Transfer" option. As soon as you do, they'll appear wrapped around the arches, and the party will finally be ready to begin. There's still more work to be done in the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest, though, and you've still got more to do before you can officially unlock Lumiere and Cogsworth.

A monkey with shades sitting in Megabonk.

One of the biggest indie surprises of the summer, Megabonk has undoubtedly prompted many people to explore the incredible world of roguelikes.

Many smash hits themselves, these roguelikes can offer countless hours of fun, what with their many build options, explosive combat, tension, and possibly the most satisfying gameplay loop of all time.

So, if you're one of that crowd searching for that Megabonk vibe, here are our picks for the best games like Megabonk, all in one place and no particular order.

Best games like Megabonk

Vampire Survivors

Blasting a surrounding horde with blue projectiles in Vampire Survivors
Many games are like it, but few can ever be it. Image by poncle

I'm immediately going to get this one out of the way, given how much it has influenced Megabonk itself, from its overall gameplay loop to its style. Vampire Survivors is one of the most revolutionary roguelikes to date, a game that has spawned its own genre that people still can't agree on what to call. Survivors-like is what I'd pick, but it's still up for debate.

It's a simple game, with a gameplay loop simpler still. Much like in Megabonk, everything you have on your person is automatically used against swarms of enemies that just keep coming, with the added mechanic of item synergies, i.e., some items can be combined to produce a third, more powerful weapon, which I think Megabonk should've introduced as well.

It doesn't have the portals that came from another game on this list, with survival limited by time, where winning a run means living for at least 30 minutes. It's addictive, chaotic, fun, and has everything that makes Megabonk as awesome as it is.

Risk of Rain 1 and 2

The absolute best. Image via Hopoo Games

Like Vampire Survivors, the Risk of Rain series has had a tremendous impact on Megabonk and its core gameplay, especially when it comes to items, characters, and the portal bosses.

Both Risky games, one a side-scroller and the other a third-person, have a ton of these wacky characters and items, which function largely the same as they do in Megabonk. There are no synergies, nor Tomes or weapon slots. Each character is unique in how it plays, with its own abilities and weapons, and they can pick up as many (or as few) items as they want.

The loop ends once the portal is found and the stage boss defeated, with you progressing to the following stage, and then the next, and the next, until you're dead. This should be quite familiar to you if you're coming off of Megabonk.

I personally consider RoR 2 to be the best roguelike of all time, and I hope you do end up having as much fun with it as I do.

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor

Deep Rock Galactic is a dwarven sci-fi extraction shooter with squad elements, making it similar to the likes of Left 4 Dead and other squad shooters. Its Survivor spin-off, however, is basically Vampire Survivors but carrying those unique elements of Deep Rock Galactic.

You fight off swarms of enemies, collect various items and weapons, and have to reach the end goal and fight the final boss before progressing. It's the same loop, a different franchise and genre, and it will make you feel right at home coming from another Survivors-like.

It's also a game developed by one of the most beloved indie teams ever, and will probably make you addicted to grog, grow a beard, and yell "Rock and Stone!" every time you see a pickaxe.

Death Must Die

Combat scene in Death Must Die.
Death Must Die feels like a blend of Diablo 2 and Hades. Image via Realm Archive

More of a Hades-like than anything else, Death Must Die is yet another indie roguelike that's way better than it should be. It has a very similar loop to Vampire Survivors, meaning you have to survive for a certain amount of time before facing off the final boss and "winning" the run.

Power-ups are awarded by a host of deities, which are artistically stunning and have great voice acting, much like they do in Hades. There's a host of characters to pick from, all with their own unique attacks, abilities, advantages and flaws that make every run unique and different, especially given how varied the power-ups from the various gods are.

It's fun, it gets a lot of updates constantly, and it should scratch that Megabonk itch like few others.

Hades

Zagreus in Hades
A great game that also received a sequel recently. Image via Supergiant Games

Speaking of Hades-likes, why not delve into Hades itself? It's a roguelike game where you fight wave after wave of enemies, albeit in different stages. Playing as the son of the Greek god Hades, you're trying to escape the Underworld, with the Olympian host helping you out along the way. They grant various powers and abilities, while you yourself have access to a myriad of weapons and abilities, which can be upgraded and tweaked to increase your odds of getting out.

It's among the most visually striking games, especially among indies, and is rightfully so popular and influential, meaning you shouldn't continue sleeping on this hit any longer after getting introduced to the roguelike world with Megabonk.

Brotato

Brotato
A unique experience. Image via Blobfish

Brotato is another classic bullet-hell game, pitting you against, you've guessed it, waves of enemies that just keep coming, and they don't stop coming. You can wield six weapons that fire automatically (sound familiar?), can pick from dozens of characters and hundreds of items, and even play in co-op with friends!

That last bit is what most of these roguelikes need, with only Risk of Rain 1 and 2 having that option on this list. Well, aside from Brotato and this next entry.

Temtem: Swarm

Combat in Temtem: Swarm.
Temtem: Swarm's visuals are just out of this world. Image via Crema

Visually beautiful and with great music to boot, Temtem: Swarm is very much a Survivors-like, but one with a lot more thought put into art and design. The loop remains largely the same: battle swarms, get power-ups, become stronger, and discover ways to be completely OP and brag to people on Reddit about how many millions of damage you got in a single run.

What stands out the most with the game is by far its artistry, so if you're a fan of more pleasant looking games (not to say that the games on this list are unpleasant by any means) this is the pick for you. Oh, and it's also similar to Megabonk, so that's a big plus, too.

A character surrounded by skeletons in Megabonk.

Megabonk is yet another indie smash hit this year, bringing with it a lot of ecstatic fun, chaotic gameplay, and meme-infused comedy straight out of the Gen Z cultural factory.

But it's also limited to just one platform: the PC, with many wondering if and when the game will come to consoles. So, here's everything you need to know about Megabonk's potential console port.

Is Megabonk coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, or Nintendo Switch?

Calcium in Megabonk.
Megabonk is a smash hit, but available only on the PC. Screenshot by Destructoid

Megabonk is first and foremost a PC title. A roguelike at heart, it sticks to its guns and roots and currently offers its impeccable gameplay only to the home computer crowd, chiefly on Valve's Steam. Most roguelikes are shaped by mouse-and-keyboard mechanics, especially those with a more classic feel like Megabonk (its many innovations notwithstanding).

But, even so, Megabonk has the potential to break out of the PC prison and land on other consoles, according to its creator vedinad. Speaking to Game Pressure, the developer said releasing Megabonk on consoles is possible, but that it could prove "a bit time-consuming" since they "don't know anything about [porting games to consoles]."

It's not looking great, but that one "maybe," the developer could turn this into reality at some point down the line. Megabonk is a growing phenomenon, hosting tens of thousands of players at any given moment, which could prompt the developer to embark on branching out to other platforms.

However, other games, which were just as or even more popular than Megabonk, also on PC, are yet to be seen on consoles. Take Lethal Company, for example, one of the biggest indie hits ever. It's not on console years down the line, and its dev also said porting is a huge project that takes a lot of time and resources, which these types of solo-dev projects simply do not have.

But lightning can strike, and only time will tell if vedinad's stellar title is going to make it to the many consoles on the market today.

A new month means a new major update for Marvel Rivals. October 2025 is about to get real scary.

The Man Without Fear, Daredevil, is just a fraction of what's coming to Marvel Rivals in season 4.5. Quality of life changes, balancing updates, new and different hero team-ups, and, of course, new skins are all a part of the patch.

We've got the details in the patch notes ahead of its release on Oct. 10.

Marvel Rivals - Season 4.5 early patch notes

New hero: Daredevil

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV8lE08wGoE

Daredevil, yet another Duelist, is the new hero in the midseason update. Matt Murdock's devilish appearance looks to add yet another nightmare for Strategist players to deal with in the backline as he's able to quickly close the gap on fleeing foes and beat them down with his billy clubs.

New and changed Team-Up Abilities

  • New: Bestial Hunt (Daredevil and The Punisher)
  • New: Deep Wrath (Hela and Namor)
  • Changed: Gamma Charge (Hulk, Namor, Black Panther)

    • Namor removed.

  • Removed: Ragnarok Rebirth (Hela and Thor)

Cross Progression testing

Finally! Cross Progression is coming to Marvel Rivals, allowing players to link their PC and console accounts to use the same skins and unlocks across platforms. It will roll out in limited testing form in season 4.5, but it will come to all players in November for season five.

Everything besides leaderboards, ranked play ranks, and stats will carry over between the platforms, so the feature will mainly be for unlocking and using skins and items.

Buffs and nerfs

More info about individual hero buffs and nerfs will be coming ahead of the update's launch on Oct. 10, so check back here for details soon.

New game mode

A special new mode is coming after the season 4.5 update, but not much is known just yet. More will be revealed at the Thailand Game Show on Oct. 17.

Halloween event

For the first time ever, Marvel Rivals will celebrate Halloween with a spooky event that will bring new skins to the game, including the ones shown above for Peni Parker, Jeff the Landshark, Namor, Scarlet Witch, Blade, and Spider-Man. Details about the Halloween event, including what's paid and what's free, are coming soon.

Key art for Pokémon Go shows multiple Pokemon heading towards each other in battle

We're steadily working through the Tales of Transformation season in Pokémon Go, and for PvP players, the Fantasy Cup is now live until October 7th, tasking you with bringing the toughest Steel, Dragon, or Fairy-type Pokémon to battle.

Best Pokémon for the Fantasy Cup Great League in Pokémon Go

https://twitter.com/PokemonGoApp/status/1961156895869157625

If you want to take part in the Fantasy Cup: Great League Edition battles in Pokémon Go, there are a couple of things to pay attention to. First up, like other Great League modes, you can only enter Pokémon with CP 1500 or lower.

Then, this league only allows Pokémon with the typing Steel, Dragon, and Fairy. You can bring Pokémon with a secondary typing, so Empoleon is fine as it is Steel and Water, and Dedenne is allowed as it is Electric and Fairy-type.

Surprisingly, one of the most powerful Pokémon in the Fantasy Cup is Galarian Stunfisk (Mud Shot, Rock Slide, Earthquake), thanks to great typing and a strong defense. Mud Shot is a spammy move with great coverage, while Earthquake remains one of the best moves in the game, and a nightmare for popular picks like Dedenne.

Galarian Stunfisk can work well alongside Galarian Weezing (Fairy Wind, Sludge, Overheat), the aforementioned Dedenne (Thunder Shock, Parabolic Charge, Play Rough), and Shadow Empoleon (Metal Sound, Hydro Cannon, Drill Peck). Galarian Weezing helps out with some tough threats like Azumarill and Altaria, while Dedenne is useful when countering Togekiss and Corviknight.

Another very popular pick is Shadow Excadrill (Mud Slap, Drill Run, Rock Slide), as it can easily spam fast moves and work to quickly take down opponents' shields. Great teammates here include Azumarill, (Bubble, Ice Beam, Play Rough), and Forretress (Volt Switch, Sand Tomb, Rock Tomb).

Finally, with the prevalence of Steel-type Pokémon, a Fire-type can be good to round out any team, and this is where Turtonator (Incinerate, Dragon Claw, Overheat) comes in. Being both Fire and Dragon-type, this powerful pick is good for breaking down some tough foes like Corviknight, Forretress, and Togekiss.

Here are the best Pokémon for the Fantasy Cup Great League meta.

Pokémon Fast Move Charged Move 1 Charged Move 2
Galarian Stunfisk Mud Shot Rock Slide Earthquake
Shadow Empoleon Metal Sound Hydro Cannon (Event/Elite TM Exclusive) Drill Peck
Dedenne Thunder Shock Parabolic Charge Play Rough
Azumarill Bubble Ice Beam Play Rough
Shadow Excadrill Mud Slap Drill Run Rock Slide
Forretress Volt Switch Sand Tomb Rock Tomb
Corviknight Sand Attack Air Cutter (Event/Elite TM Exclusive) Payback
Galarian Weezing Fairy Wind Sludge Overheat
Turtonator Incinerate Dragon Claw Overheat

attending a party with lumiere and cogsworth in disney dreamlight valley

To thank you for all of your hard work and appease the potential ghost haunting the castle, Lumiere and Cogsworth are throwing a party in Disney Dreamlight Valley. To get this festival function going, you must complete the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest.

Setting up a party is hard work, so there's a lot to get done before the event can begin. Here's a complete walkthrough for the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to complete A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To complete the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest, you must help Cogsworth and Lumiere set up a special party for you. There are many tasks to get done in this one, so here's a full breakdown of how to finish all key steps.

Go to the cellar in the garden to find the Fine Cutlery

First up, head to the garden so you can enter the cellar and grab the Fine Cutlery. You've never been to the cellar before this, so finding it can be a bit tough. As soon as you walk down the stairs into the garden, make a sharp left to find another set of stairs leading down. Proceed down them and interact with the door to grab the Fine Cutlery.

Head back to the Realm entrance and approach the black tables near the wall on the left side of the piano. Interact with the sparkling spot to place the Fine Cutlery down. Next, meet up with Lumiere to see if he needs any help.

Explore the castle to find the Charcuterie Board ingredients

Lumiere tasks you with making a Charcuterie Board, but first, you must track down five key ingredients around the vast castle. Here are all of the items you need and where each one can be found.

  • Oyster – Can be found in a sparkling crate in the back of the secret passage room where you previously made Fireplace Fuel during The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest.
  • Creepy Crawly Crab – In the same crate as the Oyster.
  • Chilling Cucumber – On a table in the library, close to the spot where you placed the Globe during the Belle, Book, and Candle quest.
  • Booyère Cheese – On a desk in the corner of the library, surrounded by stacks of books, and close to the fireplace.
  • Screamed Butter – On a table in the library, right behind the couches facing the fireplace.

Cook the Charcuterie Board

Head over to the cooking station in the secret passageway and interact with it. Select the Charcuterie Board recipe and toss in all five items you just found around the castle. Once it's made, head back over to the party area near the main entrance and interact with the tables by the piano to place the Charcuterie Board. Have a chat with Cogsworth afterward to see what you should tackle next.

Find the materials in the garden

Cogsworth wants some fun decorations for the party, so it's up to you to find the materials in the garden to craft some Rose Garlands. Head out to the garden to clear away all obstacles you find and pick up any materials you spot on the ground. In total, you need:

  • Eight Castle Softwood – Can be found on the ground throughout the garden, is dropped when you break statues with your Royal Pickaxe, and drops when you clear away Night Thorns.
  • Three Rainbow Rose Bouquet – You already have these leftover from completing the A Growing Mystery quest.
  • Three Castle Detritus – Found in a small sack in the corner of the maze in the garden.

With all of the items gathered, head over to the crafting station in the garden. Select the Rose Garlands recipe on the Functional Items page to craft the decorations you need.

Place the Rose Garlands in the hall near the windows

Head back over to the party area near the Realm entrance and approach the arched windows by the hallway. Walk over to the sparkling spot where Cogsworth is standing right under them, press the Interact button that appears, and place the Rose Garlands onto the windows. This step is a bit tricky since you'd likely expect to be looking for a sparkling spot around the windows, not on Cogsworth.

Placing rose gardland in DDV

Once the Rose Garland is in place, chat with Cogsworth to let him know everything is ready to go.

Put on the Masquerade Mask you found

Open your Inventory, navigate to your Wardrobe, select the Cogsworth icon, and put on the Masquerade Mask you previously found during the Belle, Book, and Candle quest. Walk over to Lumiere and Cogsworth under the Rose Garlands and use your Phone to take a picture.

Listen to Lumiere and Cogsworth reminisce together afterward, then chat with them. Lumiere is now ready to move into the valley, but Cogsworth still has some work left to do before he's willing to join. For now, though, return to the valley to unlock Lumiere. Chat with him once you're there, then head inside Belle and the Beast's castle in your valley to reunite him with them.

Bring the letter to Cogsworth

Have a talk with the group, then grab a letter from the Beast asking Cogsworth to come to the valley. Head back into the Beauty and the Beast Realm to give it to him. After chatting with Cogsworth, return to the valley once more to officially unlock him as a villager. Head back to the Beast's castle one last time, and chat with Cogsworth again to officially finish the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest.

marvel Cosmic Invasion Gameplay

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is the latest game entrusted with the massive comic book IP, and my time with the retro beat 'em up demo has my hype at galactic levels.

I got access to the demo yesterday and have been playing it quite a bit ever since. It's limited in scope, with just two playable levels and boss fights, but there are nine heroes to choose from and they are all quite enjoyable to beat up bugs with.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion demo, Wolverine, Captain America, Venom, Phyla-Vell combat
Image via Dotemu

The playable list in the demo includes Spider-Man, Wolverine, She-Hulk, Venom, Storm, Captain America, Phyla-Vell, Nova, and Rocket Raccoon. The premise is simple: a love letter to arcade beat 'em ups of the past, and it's from the same devs at Tribute Games who made the stellar Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. Its quality is evident from the first time you start it up.

Using the vast array of heroes, you can play in co-op for up to four players across one level in the New York City streets and another on a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, fighting Annihilus's bug army and goons from Advanced Idea Mechanics. As a Marvel fan, it's a true joy.

I've played a bit with all of the heroes, but so far I think my favorite is Storm. She's able to juggle foes with lightning and wind attacks, fly in the air to combat bugs off the ground, and rain down thunderbolts with her special ability to clear the screen.

One of the unique parts of this game compared to others like it is that you can play as two heroes at once. Using the L1 button, you can tag them in for combo attacks like in Marvel vs. Capcom games, or swap out to use them full-time. Coming up with fun combos of heroes looks like it may be a good time in the full title.

The full game, due out some time this year, will launch on PC, Switch, PS5, PS4, and Xbox, and will have a total of 15 characters to choose from. The demo is now available on Steam for all players.

The Bandit on the selection screen on the left and fighting a skeleton in the Forest on the right

Bandit is a great character for deep runs in Megabonk thanks to his starter weapon, the Dexecutioner. Making a good build for the Bandit is about leveraging Size, Projectile Count, and Crit Chance, which are the three stats that affect the Dexecutioner.

Here's the best Bandit build you can use in Megabonk, along with some alternative Weapons and Tomes picks if you can't find it all in a single run.

Best Weapons, Tomes, and Items for Bandit

Type Best Good
Weapons Dexecutioner (Starter)
Katana
Dice
Flamewalker
Aegis
Black Hole
Aura
Lightning Staff
Tomes XP Tome
Damage Tome
Size Tome
Quantity Tome
Cursed Tome
Luck Tome
Bloody Tome
Precision Tome
Items Joe's Dagger
Backpack
Time Bracelet
Gym Sauce
Credit Card (Green)
Moldy Cheese

The best weapons to use on Bandit are Katana, Dice, and Flamewalker. Katana is the only one on the list I'd never replace because it scales perfectly with Dexecutioner's Size and Crit stats, so it's a must-pick. Dice is a decent projectile that also works well with Critical stats, while Flamewalker is a great match for a Size-focused build. Aegis and Aura can be picked if you want better defenses, while Lightning Staff can help with area damage due to projectile bounce, and Black Hole scales well with Size too.

When picking Tomes, prioritize XP, Size, and Quantity Tomes. XP is essential because Bandit's attack speed increases with his level, while Size lets Dexecutioner hit more enemies at once, thus increasing your odds of landing an execution. Quantity Tome to increase the number of hits of Dexecutioner can also be useful. Cursed and Luck tomes are good choices for better scaling in Tier 2 and 3 runs, while Bloody Tome is great if you're not confident about regenerating health with items and other sources.

Precision Tome is a good pick if you're also using crit-based weapons like Katana and Dice. While it increases the chance of Dexecutioner dealing critical damage, it doesn't improve the odds of landing an Execution. There's no way today in Megabonk to increase the chances of Dexecutioner's Execution, not even by increasing Luck.

Avoid the Cooldown Tome. Because Bandit's passive gives him more Attack Speed with every level, the Cooldown Tome quickly loses value. If you use an XP Tome instead, you're leveling up more often and getting Attack Speed in exchange.

In the Items department, the best item you can get for Bandit is Joe's Dagger. It adds a one-percent Execution chance on top of Dexecutioner's natural odds, so you'll be executing more enemies, more often with it. Aside from it, items that increase XP gain, like the Time Bracelet, or that increase Quantity, like the Backpack, are great choices for duplication.

You can check the best builds in Megabonk for different ideas of how to play the Bandit.

How to unlock the Bandit

The Bandit statue in the desert with Fox standing in front of it.
Touch the statue and get ready to fight. Screenshot by Destructoid.

You unlock the Bandit by defeating him in the first Desert stage. To spawn the Bandit, you need to find the Bandit statue and interact with it, which will spawn the character as a mini boss. Make sure you have a solid build before you start the fight and that you're not triggering any other mini-boss fights at the same time.

Once you kill the Bandit, you also need to buy the Dexecutioner in the Unlocks page. To do so, you have to first kill 12,500 enemies with the Sword, which is easier to do if you play a few runs with Sir Oofie in the Forest.

After you complete these two requirements, you can buy Bandit from the Unlocks menu with Silver.

Taking a picture with lumiere and cogsworth in a castle in disney dreamlight valley

There's a lot of work to be done to restore Beast's castle to its former glory and solve the mysterious haunting that's overtaken it in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Much of this endeavor is tackled during Lumiere's Belle, Book, and Candle quest.

Lumiere and Cogsworth require lots of assistance before they're willing to head back to the village, so navigating through this mission is essential. If this quest has you stumped, here's a complete walkthrough for the Belle, Book, and Candle quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to complete Belle, Book, and Candle in Disney Dreamlight Valley

talking to lumiere in ddv
Screenshot by Destructoid

To complete the Belle, Book, and Candle quest, you must help Lumiere restore more of the castle and help him learn a bit more about the potential ghost that's haunting it. There are many smaller steps along the way, so here's a full breakdown of everything you must get done.

Place the items back where they belong

After talking to Lumiere to get this task started, your first mission is to place three items back where they belong. To do so, you must:

  • Return the Standing Candelabra to its place near the stairs. From the Realm entrance, head straight until you reach the bottom of the stairs. Look slightly right to spot some wind swirls and rose petals. Interact with them to place this item back where it belongs.
  • Return the Lion Statue to its place upstairs. Head up the stairs right near where you placed the last item. At the top, look left to find more wind and rose petals. Place the Lion Statue down here.
  • Return the Globe to the library. Proceed through the doorway between the two lions, walk through the Beast's room, go down the stairs, through the secret passage, and enter the library. Once you're inside, head to the middle of the room to find the wind and petals. Place the Globe down here.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Two more strange items like the ones you previously found in The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest and the A Growing Mystery quest will drop as soon as you place the last item. Pick up the Domestic Manual Page 3 and Second Enigmatic Key items to progress. Meet up with Lumiere back by the Realm entrance once you're done.

Search for the old book in the west wing

Lumiere can't find the book he's looking for, and refuses to enter the Beast's room without his permission, so you must now venture into the west wing to search for the old book. You can access this area by heading up the stairs straight across from the realm entrance and passing through the archway guarded by lion statues.

Once you're inside, walk over to the seating area right underneath the portrait of Belle and the Beast. Look for the swirling wind and rose petals right behind the chair and interact with them to grab the old book. Meet up with Lumiere back by the Realm entrance again to show him what you found.

Return to Dreamlight Valley and talk to The Beast in his home

The old book you found is quite damaged, so you need an expert to help you fix it up. Exit the Beauty and the Beast Realm and venture to the Beast and Belle's home in your valley. Interact with the Beast to talk to both him and Belle about what's going on.

Use the glue on the Damaged Domestic Manual and its pages

Belle gave you some handy glue to fix the book up, so head to any crafting station to get to work. Switch to the Functional Items tab to find and repair the book. Once it's fixed, head back into the Beauty and the Beast Realm to show Lumiere.

Place the book on the stand right next to him after you're done chatting, then grab the Third Enigmatic Key that drops right behind it. Chat with Lumiere again to see if he knows anything about it, then pick up the Bag and Invitation that drop next to him. Talk to the furniture duo together to officially finish this mission and get one step closer to unlocking Lumiere and Cogsworth.

With the new Ascension Update in Anime Rangers X, a new unit took over the number one spot in terms of DPS, and that is Gappy. Now, although obtaining Gappy is relatively easy, evolving him can be challenging. With that in mind, we prepared the following guide on how to get and evolve Gappy in Anime Rangers X to help you out.

How to Get Gappy in Anime Rangers X

A player interacting with the Ascension Event NPC in Anime Rangers X Roblox experience.
The Ascension Event NPC is found right next to the spawn area of the main lobby.

There are two ways to get Gappy in Anime Rangers X: completing Ascension Event stages and opening Ascension Capsules. In Ascension Event stages, you have to defeat a 400B HP version of Vampire Emperor. The boss has very low damage, so the chances are that none of your units will ever get defeated in this event stage.

A player fighting the boss in an Ascension Event stage in Anime Rangers X Roblox experience.
Ascension Event stages are easy to complete, but they might take a while depending on the overall DPS of your team.

The chance of obtaining Gappy from these stages varies depending on your clear time. For clear times under 100s, the Gappy's drop chance is ~0.65%, and it goes down 0.05% for clear times of over 400s. To increase his drop rate, equip the Soul of Greed (25% increased base drop chance) on one of your units, and optionally equip the Priest of Heaven (Ascended) (100% increased base drop chance).

Preview of the Ascension Capsules, from which Gappy drops in Anime Rangers X Roblox experience.
There is a 1% chance you get Gappy when opening an Ascension Capsule.

A potentially easier way to obtain Gappy is to open Ascension Capsules (1% drop chance). Depending on your luck, you might have to open only a few dozen of them before you get the new Beyond-rarity unit. You can get Ascension Capsules by clearing Ascension Event stages (1-6 per stage) and by completing the Wall of Infinite Eyes Ranger Stage (0.1% drop chance).

How to Evolve Gappy in Anime Rangers X

Preview of Divine Trial bounty quests needed to obtain the Star Bubble evolution material for Gappy in Anime Rangers X Roblox experience.
You can access the Divine Trials menu by clicking the Quests button on the right side of the screen and then going to the Trials section.

To evolve Gappy in Anime Rangers X, you need to obtain only one evolution item: Star Bubble. Now, the only way to obtain a Star Bubble is to complete the Bubble Plunderer Divine Trial bounty questline. Here is an overview of the quest requirements and the best methods for solving them:

Bounty Quest Requirements Completion Tips
Fractured Horizon Clear 200 Waves in the Wall of Infinite Eyes Infinite game mode. You don't have to complete 200 waves in one try.
• Completing around 50 waves four times is optimal.
Abyssal Surge Deal 50,000,000,000 Damage with Gappy. Only the damage done by Gappy's attacks is counted towards the quest.
• Equip Gears that lower Gappy's attack cooldown and equip some meta Support units to complete the quest quickly.
• The test area is the best place to grind out this quest in one try
Crown of Ascension Clear Ascension Event 100 times. • You can do this quest without having Gappy equipped.
Eclipse Verdict Clear Ascension Event 10 Times with Gappy. • To progress this quest, you have to equip Gappy in the first slot.
• Replace your weakest support unit with Gappy to keep the clear times as low as possible.
Vault of Eternity Open 500 Ascension Capsules. • Simply grind Ascension Event stages until you obtain and open 500 Ascension Capsules.
• Equipping the Soul of Greed or Priest of Heaven (Ascended) does not increase the amount of Ascension Capsules dropped per stage.

A player evolving the Gappy unit at the Units Evolve NPC in Anime Rangers X Roblox experience.
To evolve Gappy, you need to obtain the Star Bubble evolution material.

Once you've completed all of the bounty quests, head over to the Upgrade Zone and interact with the Units Evolve NPC to evolve Gappy to Gappy (Go Beyond).

Gappy (Go Beyond) Unit Overview

Preview of the potential DPS of Gappy in Anime Rangers X Roblox experience.
Gappy has by far the highest DPS potential in Anime Rangers X.

When you evolve Gappy, he becomes the best DPS unit in Anime Rangers X. His base stats are comparable to those of other meta DPS units, like Gilgamesh, Shadow Monarch, and Crimson Owl. Still, Gappy's passives are what make him stand out from the rest, as they allow him to keep stacking damage infinitely. Here is a list of them and their effects:

  • Passive 1 — GO BEYOND!: This unit starts at stage 1. Stages persist after death once unlocked, and each new Stage retains buffs from previous stages.

    • Beyond Stage 1: Alternate between applying Chained and Explosion on every hit. Each time both are applied, there is a 5% chance to advance to Stage 2.

      • Chained: Stuns enemies in range for 15s and slows them by 80%.
      • Explosion: Next attack deals +150% Damage.

    • Beyond Stage 2: Each time Chained or Explosion activates, deal 300% Damage to all enemies in range and gain a permanent +5% Damage buff (no cap). Each time this unit deals damage, there is a 5% chance to advance to Stage 3.
    • Beyond Stage 3: All attacks apply Bubbled. Every 5 Bubbled applications, steal 2.5% Damage from the highest-damaging enemy in range.

      • Bubbled: Enemy is slowed by 90% and takes +33% Damage.

  • Passive 2 — I am Two, not One: After attacking, this unit may continue attacking with decreasing probability: each follow-up attack has a 100% chance to repeat, reduced by 5% with each successive strike. Each time an attack misses, reduce Attack Cooldown and Ability Cooldown by 9%.
  • Passive 3 — Plunder Bubble: Every 10 Abilities, summon an enemy copy with the same stats as the last defeated enemy. For every summon on the field, increase summon damage by +55.5%.
  • Passive 4 — Soft and Wet: 33% Range Increase on all Plunder Bubbles.
  • Passive 5 — I See All: For every +2 Range above 50, increase Damage by +0.5% and Summon HP by +0.5% (no cap).

Recommended build for Gappy in Anime Rangers X Roblox experience.
Recommended build for Gappy

Just like other meta DPS units, you should focus on maximizing Gappy's ability damage in order to optimize his DPS. The best curse combo for Gappy is -15% Ability Cooldown and +15% Damage. As for the gears, go with Hair Curls, Black Coat, Purple Boots/Black Shoes, and Aetherial Lance/Funny Revolver. Depending on how low Gappy's Ability Cooldown already is, you can use either the Soul of Agony or the Soul of Cyclops to round out the build.

That concludes our guide on how to get and evolve Gappy in Anime Rangers X. Let us know in the comments below if you are struggling with any of the Gappy Divine Trials. For some in-game freebies, make sure to check out our Anime Rangers X Codes.

Anime Rangers X Gappy FAQs

How to complete the Eclipse Verdict bounty quest trial for Gappy?

To progress the Eclipse Verdict trial, you need to clear Ascension Event 10 times with Gappy while he is equipped in the first slot. Clearing Ascension event stages while Gappy is equipped on slots 2-5 does not count towards completing the bounty quest.

Is Gappy worth the grind?

Yes, Gappy is the best DPS unit right now in Anime Rangers X, so you will want to obtain him as soon as possible.

What is the best squad for completing Ascension Event stages in Anime Rangers X?

Without Gappy, the best squad you can bring to the Ascension Event stages is Griffith, Omega Dragonlord, Primal Fusion, Vampire Emperor, and Gilgamesh. This team focuses on buffing Gilgamesh until he completes his eight gate cycle and one-shots the boss.

Pikachu feeling embarrassed in the Pokémon anime.

Pokémon has a huge scalping problem that doesn't seem to be getting any better, and no matter what it tends to do. Even the video games are no longer safe from the usual Pokémon TCG crowd, with people selling Shiny Pokémon codes in the US for inflated fees if anyone missed out on grabbing one.

I haven't been able to find a TCG set in quite a while, and the casual thought of collecting a Master's Set of cards is gone out of the window when these time-exclusive releases are being hoarded up by those who don't care for the hobby.

I'm not the only one who thinks the scalper situation is getting completely out of hand. But what can Pokémon actually do to counteract this when the company doesn't appear to care? At least, from the outside.

https://twitter.com/JoeMerrick/status/1967639189551452622

I don't think the solution to the scalper situation is as straightforward as people believe it to be. Even Japan is experiencing issues and has resorted to a raffle system for online orders, where customers can enter their address and individual phone number for a chance to purchase a box of cards or a special set. This can mitigate scalpers hoovering up stock in the West, sure, but would it work?

After all, Pokémon Center exclusives and sales are one thing, but there is nothing stopping people at Costco from buying out sets without stores setting individual sales limits per person. Which most won't do. Companies will not impose these restrictions in most cases when they know they can immediately make profits from selling items in bulk.

However, it seems that a discussion is needed about the excessive scalping occurring both at Pokémon events and sites, as well as outside of them. If the scalping worsens, the hobby will be severely damaged. It's only a matter of time until the scalping expands into other areas of the fandom as well, before any Pokémon is a fight to beat the scalpers.

And I don't want to live in that future. And I doubt you do either. And of course, you can make the argument that the only way to combat scalpers is not to purchase the inflated items and leave them out of money. But if that were so easy, scalping would have stopped by now. Instead, it's increased.

So what can be done, truly?

Xbox Game Pass logo

Microsoft really loves its price increases. To match up with the growing costs of Xbox hardware, Game Pass is now about to be pricier than ever, too.

Prices are increasing in the gaming industry. That's not news. But Microsoft announced today that Game Pass Ultimate is now clocking in at a whopping $30 a month, or $360 a year for the game-streaming service. It's adding new perks like Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ to try to entice you, but man, that's a lot of money.

Image via Xbox

The entire entertainment industry's move to streaming services has gotten so costly. Just about every other service like Netflix, Disney Plus, Apple TV+, and services of that ilk have recently gone up in price, and so of course Xbox follows suit with its own. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X hardware also just jumped to $800, so it's been a rough month.

Starting today, Game Pass's models are all changing from Core, Standard, and Ultimate, to the new titles of Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Essential replaces Core at $9.99 a month, while Premium seems to be the new Standard at $14.99 a month.

But Ultimate is jumping in price from $19.99 to $29.99 per month, with Microsoft trying to justify the increase with the handful of new additions. Is it worth it? That's for individual gamers to decide. The ability to play new games on day one as part of the service is still great, but at $360 a year, I feel like I might just prefer being selective with the games I purchase and then actually own them instead of losing access to them at any given time as part of the service.

The infographic below explains it, but the long and short of it is that Game Pass Ultimate now costs 50 percent more money than before at a time when everything else in the world is seemingly also increasing in price—other than most consumers' individual income, that is.

I used to think Game Pass was an amazing value, and then I used the service and realized there's only so much time in the day to play the 400-plus games on offer. I've subscribed and unsubscribed multiple times depending on the hot new release at the time, but never find myself sticking around for long.

Xbox Game Pass price increase
Image via Xbox

I wonder how many gamers will continue to shell out the $30 a month for this service, and how many will say "enough is enough" and cancel their subscriptions either out of boycott or necessity. Judging by the social media replies in a post where Xbox attempted to spin the change as a positive, players are not falling for it.

If you're someone who hops from game to game and doesn't like to invest a ton of time into any one title, I guess Game Pass is still decent value? For $30 a month, or basically a dollar a day, I feel like it's going to be a tough sell for most. But either way, the "good will" that the service had at its inception seems to be rapidly fading.

Cl4nk exiting a portal in the Forest in Megabonk

In Megabonk boking enemies is the name of the game, the goal being to do it so hard thunders clap around the map.

Critical strike chance, much like in hundreds of other games, gives you a ton of extra damage potential, enabling you to do twice the damage. But what happens if you have more than 100 percent crit chance, are those items you picked up just worthless past that point? Here's everything you need to know.

What if your Crit Chance is more than 100 percent in Megabonk

Megabonk final swarm with a lot of crits.
Critastic! Screenshot by Destructoid

Critical strikes in Megabonk come from a variety of items and upgrades you can get during a match. These stack additively, meaning two 10 percent Crit Chance items equal 20 percent, and so on. These stacks aren't limited and can, essentially, go into infinity.

Having more than 100 percent Crit Chance enables Overcrits, which significantly increase your Critical Strike Damage. While a sub-100 Crit Chance gives you the potential to strike at twice your damage, over 100 gives you extra odds for additional crits. For example, if you have 150 percent Crit Chance, you'll always land that x2 crit, and have a 50 percent chance for x4. At 200 percent, you always have a double crit, i.e., x4. At 300, you crit three times at once (x6), and so on.

This damage potential is amplified by Critical Strike Damage buffs from items, Tomes, and upgrades, meaning you can stack an incredible amount of crit damage, to the point of utterly bricking the game.

Keep in mind that Overcrits are different from Megacrits, which are a separate stat that amplifies your regular crits, causing them to do massively more damage. This means that, if you have a ton of stacked Crit Chance, your Megacrits could wreck most enemies in the game with relative ease, provided you have enough base damage to boot.

Vlad using Flamewalker on the left, Bandit using Dexecutioner on the right

Megabonk is a game about winning with whatever Weapons and Tomes the game offers you. While you can manipulate these choices with Banish, Refresh, and Skip, you'll rarely be able to pull off the perfect combo of upgrades that will give you an overpowered build.

If you fail to replicate the best builds in Megabonk in your run, it's useful to know which Weapons and Tomes make good combos regardless of other items. Since each Weapon has its own set of stats, you should try to match those that have the same stats so a single Item or Tome affects all your weapons at once instead of just one or two.

Here are the best Weapon and Tome combos in Megabonk.

Best Weapon Combos

All weapon combos listed below work even when incomplete. For example, if you're trying to go for the Dice + Bow + Revolver combo but can only find Bow and Revolver, do it anyway because these two weapons pair well even without the third.

Robinette using the Bow and Revolver combo in Forest Tier 2.
Ranged weapon combos feel amazing. Screenshot by Destructoid.

  • Dexecutioner + Katana + Bananarang for a melee Size and Crit Damage build. Dexecutioner and Katana benefit greatly from Critical Chance and Size, while Bananarang is an amazing weapon that will protect your character efficiently with Size boosts as well.
  • Aura + Flamewalker + Black Hole for area damage and clears. Aura's area damage around your character makes it the best beginner weapon in Megabonk, while Flamewalker adds extra damage in area as you walk. Black Hole will also grow with Size and help keep enemies further away. Add Aegis for extra protection.
  • Firestaff + Bow + Revolver for an early-game Projectiles combo. This combo works great on Fox and Robinette.
  • Wireless Dagger + Bones + Revolver + Lightning Staff for Projectile Bounce. Who needs area damage when every single projectile you use is constantly bouncing to other enemies? This is essentially an area-clear weapon combo at range.
  • Sword + Tornado + Bones for Knockback. If you just want to keep enemies away from you, invest in Attack Speed with this combo, and you won't be swarmed so easily by the mobs.
  • Dice + Revolver + Bow + Katana for all Projectile Boosts and Crit Damage. If you want to unleash bullet hell on your enemies, this combo will just keep shooting and wiping enemies on the screen, at range, non-stop. If anyone gets close, Katana will deal with them.
  • Sword + Hero's Sword + Corrupted Sword for the master sword set. They all get better with Projectile Count, Knockback, and Size, so it's a more late-game combo for the Knockback build.

Best Tome Combos

Bandit using the Katana, Dexecutioner, Dice, and Lightning Staff in the Forest.
XP, Luck, and Cursed Tomes are the holy trinity. Screenshot by Destructoid.

Just like with Weapons, these Tome combos work together even when incomplete. If you find two instead of three, just go with them.

  • XP + Luck + Cursed + Damage Tomes - Often the ideal combo for Tier 2 and 3 runs if you're an intermediate or experienced player. This combo will let you gain more XP, increase the number of enemies so you can drop more XP crystals, and increase the rarity of your upgrades, all while increasing your Damage. If you're a beginner playing a Tier 1 map, drop the Cursed Tome for another one that synergizes with your Weapon combo.
  • Armor + Thorns + Shield + HP Regen Tomes - If you want to be a massive tank, Armor and Shield Tomes make you survive more hits, more often. Add the Thorns Tome in, and you have passive damage from enemies hitting you.
  • Quantity + Damage + Cooldown Tomes - A great combo for projectile-based builds using Bow, Revolver, and similar weapons. Quantity increases the number of projectiles, Cooldown increases Attack Speed, and Damage will make you hit enemies harder. Depending on your weapons, you can add Precision Tome for Crit Chance or Size Tome for larger projectiles.
  • Bloody Tome gets an honorable, standalone mention, as it can fit all combos above to give you lifesteal, which is essential against swarms and boss fights in later levels.

Standing in beast's castle garden in disney dreamlight valley

Beast's castle is an absolute mess, and Cogsworth won't stand for it, so you need to help him fix it up in Disney Dreamlight Valley. To do so, you must navigate through the A Growing Mystery quest.

This mission has some fairly tricky parts, as most Realm quests do, so finishing it can be tough. If any of Cogsworth's asks here have you stumped, here's a complete walkthrough for the A Growing Mystery quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to complete A Growing Mystery in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Talking to cogsworth about rose seeds in DDV
Screenshot by Destructoid

To complete the A Growing Mystery quest, you need to help Cogsworth restore the rose garden and learn more about the strange haunting that's overtaken the castle. There are quite a few steps to this process, so here's a full breakdown of how to get it done.

Talk to Cogsworth

Start off by talking with Cogsworth. You can find him standing next to the steps leading into the garden where you previously rescued him during The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest. He needs your help fixing up the rose garden, but you'll first need to gather some key supplies for it.

Search the west wing to find the rose seeds

Head back inside and venture into the Beast's bedroom. You can find this room by heading back to the Realm entrance and walking straight up the stairs and through the doorway, or venturing into the library, through the secret passage, and up the staircase to enter through the other side of the room.

Pick up the rose seeds

sparkling crate with rose seeds in ddv
Screenshot by Destructoid

Once you're in the Beast's room, walk over to the wooden crate up against the wall near the enchanted rose. Interact with it to open the storage and grab the four rose seeds from inside. After you have them in your inventory, head back to the garden courtyard. Walk all the way to the center of the maze to reach the spot where you previously met Cogsworth.

Plant the rose seeds in their designated plots

Remove the small rocks and Night Thorns blocking your path so you can plant the four rose seeds around the central area. The four garden beds surrounding the lamp all have sparkling spots on them, which are what you need to interact with to place and grow the rose seeds.

After planting them, chat with Cogsworth, who is standing nearby, to figure out what's wrong with the roses. He thinks they might need a bit of a boost, so you need to make some Rose Fertilizer to help them out.

Craft Rose Fertilizer

Head over to the wall on the right side of the stairs to find a crafting station you can use to make the Rose Fertilizer. Switch over to the Potion & Enchantment tab to find this item, then use the following materials to make it.

  • Eight Castle Softwood
  • Three Castle Stone
  • Three Rich Soil

You should have obtained plenty of Castle Softwood and Castle Stone from clearing away obstacles around the garden. If you don't have enough, pick some up around the area or remove more obstacles to get some.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Once the Rose Fertilizer is made, open your inventory and select the "Use" option on it to apply it to your Royal Watering Can. Head back over to the center of the garden and use your Royal Watering Can to water each of the four bushes.

Gather the Rainbow Roses

The bushes have grown now, and sprouted some vibrant Rainbow Roses. Pick up the roses in the garden to progress. You might be tempted to try to pick them off the bushes, but they're actually already on the ground for you to find right outside of the central garden area. Pick up six Rainbow Roses to finish this task. Show them to Cogsworth once you have.

Place the Rainbow Roses in the empty vases in the hall

Head way back to the Realm entrance area, right by where you previously placed the flying painting. Approach the three vases around the piano and interact with each one to place the Rainbow Roses. Placing these items causes two strange new items to drop, so pick up the Domestic Manual Page 2 and First Enigmatic Key items before you move on.

Chat with Cogsworth and Lumiere by the piano to wrap up the A Growing Mystery quest. This mission may be done, but there's still more work to tackle before you unlock Lumiere and Cogsworth as villagers.

digimon time stranger key art

Going into Digimon Story: Time Stranger, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had been a casual Digimon enjoyer in my youth, but skipped over titles like the recent Digimon Survivors and even Digimon World titles, as they just felt lost to me. Going into this game, I was cautious about what I was getting myself into.

So, color me surprised when, after hours of gameplay and completing the story, I found myself having a lot of fun with this game, its premise, and mechanics, even if things can get a bit overwhelming at times.

Let's dive in!

Image via Bandai Namco

Before I deep dive into this, I want to specify that there will be no story spoilers of any kind in the review. I'll simply touch on the story now, saying that, as the title suggests, you are sent on an adventure through time into the past to unravel the game's mysterious narrative. However, that is all I'll be touching on there, as I know many people are excited to dive into this adventure and wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone.

Now let's get into the meat of things. It's a Digimon game, so you can expect to find and tame hundreds of Digimon, Digivolve them into countless lines, and field some of your old favorites alongside the new. I was stunned by the level of variety of Digimon in this game. They look visually stunning (unlike their human counterparts at times), all have unique battle animations, and really showcase a lot of personality that stood out to me from start to finish.

Image via Bandai Namco

And of course, you will be in for a lot of battles with your chosen party members. There is a deep level of customization that is unique to this game, with the main combat revolving around turn-based gameplay, akin to what you'd expect from an old-school Final Fantasy game. And while there are many similarities, the game takes these battles one step further.

There are seven attributes you need to learn, and, like Pokémon, knowing each one's strengths and weaknesses is pivotal to understanding both. They can be a bit grindy and repetitive at times, but luckily, after you level up your Digimon enough, battles with lower-level foes can be skipped entirely while still getting the rewards. You also aren't locked to just your main team. You can set up a team of backup Digimon to replace fallen allies, keeping you in a battle longer. You can also use this feature to chain different combos to help make it through any encounter. There is even an auto-battle option if you want to get through a struggle quickly without inputting all the attack options over and over again.

It's a pretty great battle system, and the game builds itself around it pretty well with extra skills you can activate to assist your Digimon, known as Cross Arts, and even an option to increase Combat Speed if you don't want to watch the animations over and over again. It's pretty easy to be underleveled in later stages, though, so make sure to take on every battle you can to give yourself a fighting chance against the bosses!

Down but not out

Image via Bandai Namco

Outside of battles, there are a lot more things for you to spend your time on. Whether it's spending time collecting the hundreds of Digimon, or learning all their Digivolution methods by having your Digimon meet certain conditions. There is a lot to explore. However, it also becomes the game's primary issue.

Despite the game being designed as the perfect entry point to the series for RPG enthusiasts, I found many of the mechanics and options available to me to be overwhelming. It really does feel like you are navigating through multiple menus, items, stats, and more to create the perfect party and check the correct box to achieve the Digivolution you are after. Perhaps it's just me, but I felt overwhelmed early on and ended up skipping a few things that could have been potentially useful, as the explanations are not always clear.

Image via Bandai Namco

From trying to figure out how to find items, developing attachment skills, understanding the personality system, learning how the Digifarm works, and ensuring I have x, y, and z. It isn't easy even at a base level. And we haven't even got into the various skill trees you need to play around with and choose certain advantages in the long term.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing; having a lot of options and having the freedom to really tailor your experience and discover everything on offer can be pretty fulfilling. However, for me, it felt a bit bloated. Especially as all this stuff was introduced very early on, one after another, so I was having to learn a lot of different mechanics at once instead of being slowly brought into them one at a time. It's a personal pet peeve, though, and I'm sure many people might see it differently.

This is our last Digivolution!

Image via Bandai Namco

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is probably one of the best Digimon games ever to grace modern-day audiences and feels like it was made for the hardcore fan of the series that have played through every previous entry. It has a stunning amount of Digimon to find and train, and feels like a labor of love.

In doing so, however, it somewhat alienates the core non-Digimon fan and the casual player, as many of the mechanics and story elements are challenging for those unfamiliar with the series. Even storied veterans might struggle to balance everything on offer here.

But for those who devote their time to mastering everything. There is no doubt in my heart that you are in for a great big adventure in the Digital World.

flying painting in ddv

Something spooky is going on in Beast's castle, and it's up to you to put a stop to it in Disney Dreamlight Valley. One of the first key steps in this process is finding a strange flying painting for Lumiere.

Lumiere doesn't give you much guidance for finding this item, so it's a decently tough ask. If you're stuck on this task, here's how to catch the flying painting in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Where to find the flying painting in Disney Dreamlight Valley

running by flying painting in DDV
Screenshot by Destructoid

The flying painting is a gold-framed picture of a rose that can be found looping around the castle endlessly. It follows a circular pattern throughout the hallways, through the Beast's room, into the secret passage, around the library, and back out into the halls.

In The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest, the castle is very dark, so it can be tricky to spot this item. If you're having trouble locating it, stand in one spot and spin around. Since it's stuck on a loop, it'll eventually get to you, so you can easily just wait around for it rather than trying to chase it down. The painting does sparkle a bit, has light pink rose petals around it, and some white swirling wind around it, making it fairly easy to spot once you know what you're looking for.

How to get the flying painting in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The flying painting can be grabbed using the interact button once you're right next to it. This button varies by platform, but it's always displayed right next to items you can grab, so once you're close enough, you'll see it pop up. Since the flying painting is decently fast, you might need to consume some food to keep up with it, as it might slip away fast even if you know its path and are standing still waiting for it to reach you.

There's plenty more to uncover and much more work to be done to unlock Lumiere and Cogsworth. Next, you might try working on some Witchful Thinking Star Path duties like digging for pottery materialpracticing mine-fulness, and harvesting something white and fluffy.

Player looking at dark castle in ddv

Something sinister has overtaken the Beast's castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and it's up to you to uncover what's happening and help Lumiere and Cogsworth join the village in The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest.

Like all missions, this one comes with an array of tricky components to work through. If any part of this mission has you stuck, here's a complete walkthrough for The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to complete The Haunting of Beast's Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To complete The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest, you need to return to the Beauty and the Beast Realm and help Lumiere and Cogsworth investigate what's going on. It's a fairly complex process, so here's a full breakdown of all key quest steps to help you through it.

Return to the Beauty and the Beast Realm

Head back to the Beauty and the Beast Realm to get started. You can access this area by traveling through the door marked with a rose on the third level of the Dream Castle. You can also teleport there right away from the map to bypass the extra travel time.

Find a servant to learn what's going on

Head straight up the castle steps, make a left, proceed down the hallway overlooking the courtyard, and make a right to enter the library. Approach Lumiere near the fireplace and chat with him about what's going on.

Search the hidden passage for the Fireplace Fuel ingredients

The castle is shrouded in darkness, so Lumiere tasks you with making some Fireplace Fuel to brighten things up. From where Lumiere is standing, turn right to enter the hidden passage area. Once you're inside, look for the sparkles on the ground right by the stove to find the items you need.

There are three items you need to make Fireplace Fuel:

  • Three Castle Canola
  • One Castle Paper
  • One Castle Softwood

All of these items can be grabbed from inside the storage container next to the stove. Interact with the stove once you have the items you need and select the Fireplace Fuel recipe to cook it. You'll only throw in the Canola, but the other two items must be passed over to Lumiere with it to get some light. Chat with him again after giving him the Fireplace Fuel.

Catch the flying painting

There's a strange painting on the loose, so your next task is to find and catch it. The flying painting laps around the entire castle in a circle, so loop around the building to find it. This item never stops moving and is decently fast, so consider eating some food to get a healthy gliding boost. Once you'e by it, you can catch the flying painting by pressing the interact button.

Find a place to display the flying painting

It's time to put the strange painting back where it belongs. Head over to the piano right by the Realm entrance and approach the swirls and rose petals on the wall right behind it to place the flying painting.

As soon as you place this item, two items will appear on the ground nearby. Pick up the Enigmatic Box and Domestic Manual Page 1, then head back to Lumiere in the library to discuss what happened. Follow Lumiere to the garden to figure out what needs to be done next, then talk to him once you're there.

Destroy statues and other obstacles to reach the garden's center

Strange noises are coming from the middle of the garden, so you need to find a way to reach it. Equip your Royal Pickaxe and start swinging to break the statues blocking your path forward. Clear away the smaller rocks using the same tool, and remove the pesky Night Thorns you encounter using your magic.

At the center of the garden, you'll find Cogsworth, who was trapped until you saved him. Interact with him to chat about everything that's happened and how he ended up there. Follow Cogsworth back over to Lumiere and chat with the duo as they reunite. Talking to them this last time finishes this quest and starts the A Growing Mystery one. You're now one step closer to unlocking Lumiere and Cogsworth.

Lumiere and cogsworth arriving in the valley by the well as they're unlocked in disney dreamlight valley

The doors to the Beast's castle have opened again, with more occupants waiting to be found in Disney Dreamlight Valley. The additional characters you can work on unlocking from this area are Lumiere and Cogsworth.

Lumiere and Cogsworth are some of the tougher villagers to add to your valley, as there are quite a few prerequisites that must be met before they're willing to join. If you're struggling to get the magical candelabra and clock to join your valley, here's how to unlock Lumiere and Cogsworth in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

There are quite nine main prerequisites you need to get done before Lumiere and Cogsworth are willing to join your village, so here's a full breakdown of all requirements and quests you must complete to recruit them.

  • Unlock the Beauty and The Beast Realm.
  • Unlock Belle and the Beast.
  • Build the Beast's castle.
  • Acquire the Beast's letter.
  • Complete The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest.
  • Complete A Growing Mystery quest.
  • Complete Belle, Book, and Candle quest.
  • Complete A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest.

Unlock the Beauty and the Beast Realm

The Beauty and the Beast Realm can be found on the third floor of the Dream Castle and can be unlocked for 12,500 Dreamlight. This door is marked with a rose icon, making it fairly easy to distinguish from other areas you can access. It's a very costly area to unlock, but you do get four new characters from this Realm, and it's a rather large area to explore, so the hefty price makes sense.

Unlock Belle and the Beast

Once you're inside the Realm, get to work unlocking Belle and the Beast, as both characters must be unlocked before you can recruit Lumiere and Cogsworth. Work through the Into the West Wing! quest, then tackle A Prince in Disguise to recruit them.

Build the Beast's castle

Near the end of the A Prince in Disguise quest, you'll unlock the ability to build a house for Belle and the Beast to live in. Travel back to Dreamlight Valley and construct Beast's castle, which can be done by placing the blueprints, interacting with the Scrooge McDuck sign, and spending 20,000 Star Coins.

Acquire the Beast's letter

With all of the previous tasks complete, open your mailbox to find the "My friends at the castle" letter from the Beast, which officially starts the main process for unlocking Lumiere and Cogsworth. Head back into the Beauty and the Beast Realm to start your next quest.

Complete The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest

As soon as you enter the Beast's castle, you can start working on The Haunting of Beast's Castle quest. Help Lumiere get some light in the castle, recover a strange flying painting, and rescue Cogsworth from the garden to finish this mission.

Complete A Growing Mystery quest

Next up, you need to tackle the A Growing Mystery quest. In this one, you must help Cogsworth find some rose seeds, restore the rose garden, and fix up some parts of the castle with the fresh roses you grow.

Complete Belle, Book, and Candle quest

The third main mission you must finish to unlock this duo is the Belle, Book, and Candle quest. For this quest, you must help fix up the castle even further, find a strange old book for Lumiere, and pay a visit to the valley to seek help from Belle and the Beast.

Complete A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest

The final quest you need to complete to unlock Lumiere and Cogsworth is A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping. This is the toughest mission to get done, as you must find hidden Charcuterie Board ingredients, recover some missing resources, and set up for a grand party.

Unlock Lumiere in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Lumiere is unlocked near the end of the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest, right after you throw a party with him and Cogsworth. He joins your village as soon as you return to the valley with him. You don't need to build a house for him, as he moves right in with the Beast and Belle.

Unlock Cogsworth in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Cogsworth joins your valley at the very end of the A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping quest, shortly after you take Lumiere to the village and reunite him with the Beast and Belle. When you do, you'll get a letter from the Beast asking Cogsworth to come.

The tiny clock always listens to him, so return to the Beauty and the Beast Realm to get him, then head back to the valley one more time to officially unlock him as a villager. He also moves into the castle with the rest of the group.

Chef standing in kitchen in disney dreamlight valley

Cooking is one of the most essential tasks to do during Star Path events in Disney Dreamlight Valley. These duties can be tricky, though, as is the case with the "cook a fairly fancy dessert" quest.

Although cooking is relatively easy to get done, figuring out what the specific requirements of this task are can be tough. Only certain types of dishes help you make progress in this task, so if you're stuck, here's how to cook a fairly fancy dessert in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

What is a fairly fancy dessert in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

A fairly fancy dessert dish is any four-star or better recipe in the Dessert category. In some past Star Path events, including Retro Roadtrip, this task has referred to only five-star Desserts, so the exact meaning of it seems to sometimes change between events. For the purposes of the Witchful Thinking Star Path, though, all four-star and five-star Desserts count for this task.

To complete the cook a fairly fancy dessert task for the Witchful Thinking Star Path event, you need to cook three four-star or better Desserts. Any Dessert dishes that are four-star or five-star count for this quest, so what you choose to cook up is entirely up to you. If you're not sure what to make, here are some of the easiest dishes that count.

Cooking up the required three dishes for the Star Path event gets you 20 Tokens to spend on any prize of your choosing. This is the maximum amount you can get from any single task, so it's a great duty to get done swiftly if you're hoping to claim some exclusive prizes.

Although the reward for finishing this duty is solid, it's still not enough to get most of the rewards featured in the Star Path event. You'll likely need lots more Tokens to claim whichever prize you have your eye on, so consider tackling additional tasks to earn more. Some good ones to work on are practicing mine-fulness, digging for pottery material, harvesting something white and fluffy, and digging up a root vegetable with many eyes.

A character dressed as a pirate standing in water in front of s ship and treasure island with a monkey on their shoulder in disney dreamlight valley

The Witchful Thinking Star Path has arrived, and it's brought with it plenty of tricky tasks to work through in Disney Dreamlight Valley. One of the tougher quests you might get stuck on asks you to catch fish somewhere dazzling.

You're not given any information beyond this hint, so figuring out where you need to go to get this task done is fairly tricky. If this Star Path quest has you stumped, here's how to catch fish somewhere dazzling in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Somewhere dazzling in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Somewhere dazzling refers to the Dazzle Beach biome in DDV. The word "dazzling" in the catch fish somewhere dazzling clue is meant to be a small hint that points you in the right direction. Since it's not exactly the same as "dazzle," it can be tough to figure out.

You can find this area near the very south end of the valley, east of the Glade of Trust and south of the Peaceful Meadow and Forest of Valor biomes. It wraps around the edge of the valley and is perhaps the most uniquely shaped region you can visit.

Catch fish somewhere dazzling in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To finish the catch fish somewhere dazzling duty, you need to catch a total of 10 fish from around the Dazzle Beach biome. Any fish you catch around this region count, so whether you choose to fish out of ripple spots or open water is entirely up to you.

Your odds of catching fish are much higher when fishing out of bubble spots, so it's generally best to focus on them. While most biomes have limited water to fish out of, Dazzle Beach is rich with fishable spots, as the entire biome is surrounded by an ocean you can fish out of.

Before you embark on this fishing adventure, be sure to ask a fishing specialist to hang out. Any extra fish they find won't count for the task, but you can always sell or store them away for later. If you're going to put in the work anyway, you might as well get the maximum rewards from it. Hanging out with villagers is also the best way to increase your friendship with them.

Completing this mission gets you 15 Tokens to spend in the Witchful Thinking Star Path event. It's not quite enough to get anything good, so consider tackling some additional quests next, like digging for pottery material, practicing mine-fulness, harvesting something white and fluffy, and digging up a root vegetable with many eyes.

A player in a light green dress laughing and holding maxm a fuzzy white and grey dog, in the peaceful meadow biome in disney dreamlight valley

Many of the riddles you'll encounter in Star Path events task you with finding a specific location, item, or character in Disney Dreamlight Valley. They're intentionally tricky, as is the case with the catch Fish somewhere peaceful duty.

Most Star Path quests aren't too tough to complete once you understand what they're asking for. If this one has you stumped and struggling to progress, here's how to catch Fish somewhere peaceful in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Where is somewhere peaceful in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

water in the peaceful meadow biome marked in disney dreamlight valley

Somewhere peaceful refers to the entire Peaceful Meadow biome in DDV. This is the simple green meadow area situated south of the Plaza and north of Dazzle Beach. The "somewhere peaceful" hint uses the word peaceful to hint at the right place for tasks that take place here.

Catch fish somewhere peaceful in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To complete the catch Fish somewhere peaceful duty for the Witchful Thinking Star Path, you need to catch a total of 10 Fish from around the Peaceful Meadow biome. There are only three pools you can fish out of in this area, so it might take you a bit to get it done.

There's a large pond near the far east end of the biome by the ramp that leads down into the east end of the Dazzle Beach area, and two small ones over on the west end, close to the ramp that leads down into the Glade of Trust.

For the Star Path task, you can either fish out of ripple spots or open water to progress. It's generally best to focus on fishing out of ripples, as all of the ones found in this area are guaranteed to have Fish, while open water might not be quite as beneficial.

When working on this quest, be sure to bring a fishing companion with you. Any Fish they find won't count for the Star Path task, but if you're fishing anyway, you might as well have a friend helping you out to earn bonus items.

Finishing this duty gets you 15 Tokens to spend in the Star Path event. You'll likely need more to claim whichever prize you have your eye on, so consider tackling additional quests next. Some good ones to work on are digging for pottery material, practicing mine-fulness, harvesting something white and fluffy, and digging up a root vegetable with many eyes.
