Roguelike deckbuilders! They're everywhere! It's a bit of an epidemic, honestly, sorting the wheat from chaff is a tough job. Of course, once in a while a genuinely novel take on the genre rolls around, and PinKeep has done just that, a pinball game where you change the playfield as you progress through runs. And it's from the devs behind the Far series and Herdling!

Highguard was never a game that was going to win me over, as I generally only like single-player shooters if any, but it isn't helped by the fact that since its announcement there hasn't been a lick of actual marketing to help it prove itself. This, of course, has been the subject of much discourse, to which I will contribute slightly in the coming paragraphs, but the main point of all this is to say that actually, against all odds, Highguard is in fact sticking to its January 26th launch date, and will even show off some gameplay… on its release day.

When I gave extraction shooter Arc Raiders a glowing review in November, I wasn't certain it would keep me hooked.

Two months later and I'm 250 hours deep. Despite clear flaws – and developer Embark Studio's insistence on retaining AI-generated voice lines – I feel its pull every day, and not for the reasons I would've thought.

I used to think what was special about Arc Raiders was that every round was different, that anything could and would happen when you met another player mid-round. What's kept me coming back, however, is not the ways it's surprising but the ways it's predictable – the ways I can master its systems to squeeze more fun out of it, more high-tier loot, and more of its special, absurd moments.

time to digest these twists in the Beatrice manhwa.

The Beatrice manwha is one of those isekai, reincarnation comics that pairs trauma and downfalls with perhaps the best possible outcomes. When things are good for the heroine, they're great in their in ways. But when they get bad, well, we basically get guaranteed that somehow it will turn out for the best for her. While it does get a bit anticlimactic, it does still supply some drama that might keep someone interested.

Editor's Note: There are some light spoilers for the first volume of the Beatrice manhwa below.

Beatrice was originally a medical student in our world. She got hit by a car (naturally) and died. She woke up in the kingdom of Elpasa as the child of a slave, but she was fortunate enough to be treated well, happy, and even able to still learn to read and write. However, it turned out she was the illegitimate daughter of the king, who summoned her to be the wife for one of his noble subjects (who is an old man) so his legitimate heir wouldn't be forced into that union. Not ideal, of course. But it turns out he was a traitor and betrayed the king and country to the Nosteros Empire.

While that seems bad, especially since Duke Alessandro and his soldiers may be determined to kill everyone, this works out in Beatrice's favor in the manhwa. That's because since she was illegitimate, she doesn't have the trademark royal hair. Her half-sister? Murdered by the duke for her behavior and lineage. Her? He takes pity because he knows of her background and sees her "husband" was willing to turn her in and leave her to die. She and her maids, who she pleads for, will become slaves in Nosteros.

Again, while that seems bad, it isn't. Beatrice seizes the opportunity to return to the life she enjoyed before her royal father plucked her out of obscurity to protect his "real" daughter he loved. She returns to the name Chloe, is placed in a nobleman's home, and gets to go back to what she loves. The medical training she received in our world still applies, as many of the same herbs and plants exist and she had apothecary training. While there is a moment that seems like she'll be punished and imprisoned for daring to tamper with a medical research supply storage by cleaning and organizing it… well, that turns out for the best too!

In a way, it means there's no space and time to digest these twists in the Beatrice manhwa. Things move so quickly. The moment something bad happens, something is already in motion to negate any possible harm. And when we do see a resolution, it always seems to result in a positive by the end of this first volume. While Duke Alessandro is shown as a villain and the cliffhanger puts her again in the path of someone she fears, who caused her harm, and could be dangerous, since this is a romance there is already the foreshadowing in place to suggest he'll be her perfect match.

The first volume of the Beatrice manhwa is available now, and Yen Press didn't share a release date for the second yet.

Lionel Messi TOTY HM in FC 26

The Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi TOTY HM Player Pick SBC is now live in FC 26, and you can obtain one of the modern GOATs for your Ultimate Team squad.

To get the cards, you'll have to complete a mega-expensive SBC. However, you can only pick one item in the end, and whatever you decide is irreversible. Interestingly, both cards have their respective pros and cons.

So let's look at which card you should pick, and what should be the deciding factors.

When should you pick Ronaldo TOTY HM in FC 26

Cristiano Ronaldo has arrived as a striker, and this 90-rated card can be phenomenal up top. He has 90 Pace, 93 Shooting, and 89 Dribbling. He also offers 5* Skill Foot and some interesting playstyles. Both Finesse Shot+ and Rapid+ are pro-meta choices when it comes to forwards.

An image of Ronaldo in EA FC 24
Image via EA Sports

He also offers Incisive Pass, great for the first time through balls. Aerial Fortress makes him ideal for crosses, while Low Driven enables you to shoot powerful grounders. He has everything it takes to shine as a striker. Unfortunately, he doesn't have any alternate positions (unsure if it's a bug). If his only position remains as a striker, you should pick him if you need a goal-scoring machine.

When should you pick Messi TOTY HM in FC 26

As things stand, the Messi TOTY HM item looks better. For starters, he can play in four positions, including striker. He has Technical+ and Finesse Shot+, along with 90 Pace, 90 Shooting, 90 Passing, and 94 Dribbling. The stat combination looks stellar, and he can do well as a CAM or as an RW/RM.

He also offers Tiki Taka and Incisive Pass, which are great choices in the current meta. However, if you like pacy players who can defeat defenders with their speed, this Messi card might not feel like your cup of tea. However, if you want someone to operate in the wings or as a creative attacking midfielder, Messi is the way to go.

Return to Silent Hill logo.

Return to Silent Hill has finally opened in theaters, and boy do people have opinions about it. After it first started getting reviews from critics, I though it'd be one of those cases of "hated by critics, loved by fans," but that just doesn't seem to be true.

Which isn't stopping the film's director from dreaming about making more Silent Hill movies, and more movie adaptations in general. Why? Because, as he says, "plenty of people are thinking I'm doing a pretty good job."

Speaking with Variety, Return to Silent Hill director Christoph Gans spoke about how he would love to do more of Silent Hill in the future, having done two of them in 2006 and 2026, respectively. Two decades spent with one franchise is a lot, and it seems Gans has a genuine passion for it, since, as he says, it is one of those IPs that are so different and intriguing that they can be viewed as something with genuine artistic merit.

"'I'm not looking at Silent Hill only as a great video game. I'm looking at it as a piece of modern art. It has something really edgy and experimental," Gans explained.

Which is why he would love to revisit it again after Return: "If I have the opportunity, we'll come back to Silent Hill once more."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTPHkslPCr0

Gans concluded by saying that "plenty of people are thinking I'm doing a pretty good job," though I cannot imagine who he might be talking about.

He finished the movie for just around $23 million, so it could be the financial department. The production team, maybe? Or the actors for being treated well? Whoever it is, it's certainly not either the audience or the critics, who have been hammering the movie ever since they laid their eyes upon it.

Contrasted to the 2006 release, Return to Silent Hill isn't hitting it off with anyone, it seems, with an average IMDB score of 4.4 (compared to 5.9 with critics alone), whereas the original film has about 6.5. Rotten Tomatoes has it at only 15 percent with critics and around 30 with casual moviegoers, sharply beneath the original's 34 and 63, respectively.

In fact, it has a worse audience score than Silent Hill: Revelation, a universally hated movie except among fans of disasterpieces and so-bad-it's-good stuff.

At any rate, Gans' passion shouldn't be underappreciated. I love it when a director or producer genuinely holds the IP they're working with in high regard. And that shows: Return to Silent Hill's trailers do indicate a strong understanding of the franchise, but it appears that isn't enough to make a movie, nor are aesthetics and experimental concepts the only things that made Silent Hill as good as it is.

Its characters, emotional story, thematic depth, and everything in-between are what matter. Sure, it's innovative in many ways and especially as a horror game, but that's all secondary, which the film apparently doesn't understand.

Pink Bolete, as seen in Arknights Endfield.

Used to ascend your operators for the first time, getting good amounts of Pink Bolete early on is a necessity in Arknights Endfield, even more so if you want to test out every single member of your roster right off the bat.

But contrary to what many expect, getting easy access to the mushrooms is only a matter of knowing where to look. To help you max out your favorites as soon as possible, here are all Pink Bolete locations in Arknights Endfield.

All Pink Bolete locations in Arknights Endfield

You can get Pink Boletes in Arknights Endfield by gathering them from select Rare Growth spots scattered across the game's early areas, with two being found on Originium Science Park, one in Valley Pass, and three within The Hub. The spots on The Hub will house six boletes each, while those found in the other areas can feature up to eight.

Upon being harvested, the boletes at each location will respawn one at a time daily. In other words, upon gathering all, you can still get six a day by revisiting your route. You can check out the exact location of all of the Pink Bolete spawns below.

  • All The Hub Pink Barete locations.
  • All Valley Pass Pìnk Benete locations in Arknights Endfield.
  • All Originium Science Park Pink Baretes.

How to Farm Pink Bolete

Apart from gathering them from the wild, the best way to farm Pink Boletes in Endfield can be done by using the Dijiang's Growth Chamber, unlocked by increasing your Control Nexus level to 2. As shown below, the chamber allows you to grow the boletes from its mycelia, which can be produced at the station at the expense of the source material. To be more specific, each bolete can net you three mycelia.

Pink Bolete, as seen in the Growth Chamber.
Screenshot by Destructoid

Just don't get your hopes up, as it will take almost 18 hours for each sprout to grow. To make the most out of it, add multiple mycelia to the chamber at once. Leveling up the room also allows you to harvest both Red and Ruby Bolete, thus guaranteeing you will have some help with the mid/late-game grind.

Can you buy Pink Boletes in Arknights Endfield?

Thankfully, for all looking to get a few extra materials without waiting, you can buy up to three Pink Boletes by heading to Anton's Garden Shop, located in the Worker Dorms area of The Hub. Once there, each unit will be available for 300 Stock Bills. We still don't know if the deal is a one-time offer, so keep that in mind.

highguard codes

Highguard, developed by industry veterans most known for their work on Apex Legends and other influential shooters, is just around the corner. However, ever since its rather disastrous TGA reveal, its developers have been radio silent, but are now breaking the ice and gearing up for an official launch showcase.

On Jan. 26 at 12pm CT, Highguard is set to premiere its final showcase ahead of release, hopefully clearing up what the game is actually about. The TGA trailer was cinematic and grandiose, but didn't tell us much beyond that Highguard will be a team-based game with heroes, abilities, and some sort of siege mechanic.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qR9Xbzt5t0

Information regarding this pre-launch promotion is scarce, and we'll keep our ear to the ground for any news or tidbits. The TGA announcement left a bad taste in many mouths—not because Highguard itself was bad or unappealing, but rather that it was so hyped up as the final game in the show, which everyone at the time was anticipating as Half-Life 3 or some other major IP.

The fact that it turned out to be just another hero shooter (after Geoff Keighley highlighted it's a game by former devs of Titanfall, another beloved game that people want a sequel or spiritual successor to) didn't land well with audiences.

However, Highguard could still weather the storm and end up doing well, which this pre-launch promotion might be seeking to achieve. A lot needs to be said about this game, and it needs to be judged and valued on its own and not in the context of its unfortunate TGA experience.

I won't say that I'm excited for another hero shooter, but I want everyone to have a fair chance at showing what they've come up with, which I think Highguard was unjustly deprived of.

We'll know everything on Jan. 26, I guess.

how to redeem arknights endfield codes

The Ferrium Mining Rig will be one of your most vital resource stations in Arknights Endfield (given the importance of the ore), and it takes a fair bit of effort to unlock.

Interestingly, there's no update node that unlocks 'Ferrium Mining Rig'. Instead, you'll have to unlock the Electric Mining Drill Rig MK II, which allows you to mine Ferrium automatically. Let's look at how you can build your Electric Mining Drill Rig MK II in Arknights Endfield.

How to unlock Electric Mining Drill Rig MK II in Arknights Endfield

The first task is to make a fair amount of progress along the main storyline. The quest you need to complete is Mystery in the Building, which rewards you with a Basic Expansion Core. This reward opens your gate for obtaining the Ferrium Ore.

Research Page in Arknights: Endfield
Screenshot by Destructoid

The next task is to unlock Basic AIC III from the upgrades tree, which will require the Basic Expansion Core. You'll also have to complete the Mining III upgrade, which allows you to access the Electric Mining Righ MK II template. This will allow us to create the automated mine system for Ferrium Ore.

How to build the Electric Mining Drill Rig MK II in Arkights Endfield

Once you unlock the template for the Electric Mining Drill Rig MK II, go to a spot on the map where you can find Ferrium. We will be placing the rig directly on top of the deposit to start our mining process. To craft the rig, you'll need the following materials.

  • 1x Portable Originium Rig
  • 10x Ferrium Parts

Naturally, reaching this point will take a certain amount of time. Once unlocked, you'll be able to setup automated Ferrium Ore mining setups that will be immensely helpful.

Tha main cast of the Office posing

Whispers that The Office will be the latest franchise to join the infinitely expanding Fortnite IP gestalt have been fluttering around for a while, now. Maybe one day I'll learn to stop doubting them.

It is, indeed, happening: The Office's Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute are coming to Fortnite, and they'll be here a lot faster than you think.

When are Michael and Dwight coming to Fortnite?

Michael and Dwight skins in the Fortnite store
Image from Hypex on X

Rumors that The Office was coming to Fortnite have been trickling out of credible sources for weeks. Epic Games itself all but confirmed the impending 'merger with a Twitter post referencing Dwight's unhealthy obsession with beets, but it was legendary Fortnite leaker Hypex who formally cracked the lid on the impending crossover.

Thanks to Hypex, we know that Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute are joining Fortnite as official skins. If Hypex and other leakers are right, the two will be available on the Fortnite store sometime on January 23 and February 6. We'll only know when the shop resets, which it usually does around 7:00 EST.

What's in Fortnite's The Office bundle?

If there's one thing Fortnite has consistently gotten right, it's the level of detail they cram into their IP skins and cosmetics, and The Office isn't missing out on that love. The Michael and Dwight skins capture both characters' meme-spawning quirks. Michael's resting "I'm not mad, I'm disappointed" stare is still as soul-scorching, and the surreal appeal of Dwite's mustard shirt is as immaculate as ever.

On top of that, the bundle comes with a collection of accessories and emotes inspired by The Office's expansive history of iconic gags. Here's a quick breakdown of everything you get from Fortnite's The Office bundle.

  • CPR Dummy Back Bling
  • World's Best Boss Mug Back Bling
  • Broom-Stake (Pickaxe)
  • Dundie Pickaxe
  • Megadesk Glider
  • Dwight's Lil' Lead Car Emote
  • The Scarn Emote

In total, The Office bundle is rumored to cost between 3,200 and 3,600 V-bucks. Thi sputs them around the cost of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bundle we got last year. At least they aren't as expensive as Michael's tickets to paradise.

Dead Echo Knight, the result of aggression in No Rest For The Wicked

No Rest for the Wicked isn't the easiest of ARPGs to ace, but it allows you to respec and reset your character builds.

The process is quite simple, but you'll first have to clear a fair bit of in-game content. Here's the full process you need to follow if you're playing No Rest for the Wicked for the first time following the Together update.

How to reset your stats in No Rest for the Wicked

The key to respec your character and reset all its stats is locked behind the crafting of the Respec Totem in the Crucible.

  • Keep completing the main campaign until you unlock the Cerim Crucible. There's a bunch of side quests to finish as well.
  • Once you've unlocked the Cerim Crucible, head to the Atrium and start the process by sacrificing blood.
  • Enter the Crucible, and you'll have to clear all waves until you reach floor five.
  • You'll meet the Crucible vendor, and you can find various upgrades from him, which also includes the Respec Totem.

  • To purchase the Respec Totem, you'll need to spend Gloamseeds Currency. You earn this currency by defeating enemies in the Crucible.

How to use the Respec Totem in No Rest for the Wicked

The Respec Totem will appear beside the Crucible pit. Interact with the totem, and you can respec your character. To complete the process, you'll need to spend Fallen Embers.

You can keep resetting your build as many times as you want by repeating the method. This allows you to change how you want to play No Rest for the Wicked. It also reduces the chances of regret if you accidentally make a bad build.

Endministrator in Arknights Endfield

Leveling up your Endministrator in Arknights Endfield is relatively simple, but things become difficult once your operator hits level 20.

Until you hit level 20, your pathway to growth is relatively linear. You raise the operator level with relevant materials. However, going past level 20 and hitting the level 40 cap will require you to complete a few extra steps. This guide will simplify the complete process and list all the items that you will need.

How to raise your Endministrator to Level 40 in Arknights Endfield

The first step is to raise your Endministrator to Level 20. If you've been playing since Jan. 22, you should have already reached that point by now. The difficulties begin from this stage, as you'll first have to promote your operator.

  • From the operator window, hover over the "promote" option. At first, it will say that the promotion is locked, and you need to raise the rank.

Endministrator in Arknights Endfield
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • You're going to need three different resources. The first is the Protodisk. To earn Protodisk, run Protocol Space: Promotions. Repeat the process until you have the required number of items. Playing and clearing the rounds at greater difficulties will offer better rewards.
  • Pink Bolete can be found from Rare Growth gathering nodes after you return to your hub. If you've harvested the nodes recently, you'll need to wait till they items respawn.
  • T-Creds are easy to earn; just do your dailies and finish side quests.

Once you've found all the required resources, click on promote from the operator window. To raise Endministrator to Level 40, you'll need to opt for Promotion I. Once you've secured Promotion I, you can raise Endministrator to Level 40.

Promotion 1 for Endministrator in Arknights Endfield

You're going to require a lot more EXP materials to reach Level 40 than you did to hit the Level 20 cap. There are different ways to farm EXP materials, aside from simply playing with the operators and completing various quests and objectives.
