A new group of games will arrive on Xbox Games Pass starting this week
Things kick off today with Totally Accurate Battle Simulator for cloud, console, and PC. In the game, you are the leader of the wobblers which come from "ancient lands, spooky places, and fantasy worlds." They will fight in simulations made with an interesting physics system, and you can make your own wobblers in the unit creator. Alternatively, you can make your wobblers fight others in multiplayer.
October 7 sees the release of The Procession to Calvary for cloud, console, and PC. This Pythonesque adventure game finds you journeying through a world built from Renaissance paintings. As the game's unnamed heroine, you will be hunting down Heavenly Peter who is a tyrant. Expect a game that is full of zany characters, puzzles, and various scenarios.
Today, DICE announced a major change to the content of the digital standard edition of Battlefield 2042 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The $70 edition now also comes with access to the PS4 and Xbox One versions alongside the main game on new consoles, at no additional charge. Previously, the cross-gen bundle was only included in Battlefield 2042's $100 Gold, and $120 Ultimate editions.
This effectively means players who intend on buying a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S should feel comfortable getting the standard edition on those storefronts, seeing as it will grant them access to the game on both generations of their console family of choice. It also means that all three editions of the game, when purchased on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, now include the cross-gen bundle.
One of the most requested characters, Sora will arrive in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Back in February of last year, rumors stated Nintendo wanted to add Sora as a character to the game, but the request was denied by Disney Japan. So either the rumor wasn't true or Nintendo and Disney worked something out. Game director Masahiro Sakurai said during today's stream it took a bit of work and time to include him, more so than other fighters, so maybe the rumor was true after all.
Either way, this is good news for fans who have been asking for the character for quite a while, and fans of Kingdom Hearts in general.

The Saints are back! Following its reveal in August, Saints Row is on the cover of the next issue of Game Informer, and we have so much information to share with you! The reboot from the development team at Deep Silver Volition promises to carry on the spirit of the original games while setting the table for a new story featuring a new cast of characters. For our cover story, we played several hours of the new game and spoke at length with key team members.
We played through two mainline story missions, two side missions, and participated in two Criminal Ventures, all-new mission chains that let the Saints earn extra cash performing illegal activities behind legal fronts. Nintendo has revealed that all of the Kingdom Hearts games are coming to Switch, but they'll only be available as cloud versions.
All three titles – Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts 3 – will hit the Switch at a later unannounced date. With all three titles, players will be able to experience the entire Kingdom Hearts saga.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix features Kingdom Hearts 1, Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep as playable games. It also features HD remastered cinematics from Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue features a remastered version of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage, and the Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover cinematics. Kingdom Hearts 3 is just Kingdom Hearts 3 in its entirety, excluding the Re Mind DLC released in 2020.
Nintendo has finally done it. It's brought the Smash Brothers Ultimate party to a close with the reveal and release of the final Smash character, Sora. And with his reveal comes a new set of Mii Fighter costumes to be released alongside the much-requested Kingdom Hearts protagonist in a couple of weeks.
Talk about requested characters; the Doom Slayer (!!!!) is making his way into Smash by way of an upcoming Mii Gunner costume. Players can rip and tear through the cast of Smash Ultimate with this incredible space marine getup.

Splatoon is also getting some more love with a pair of headwear for any of your Mii characters to wear. One is a wig that'll make a Mii look like an Octoling, while the other hat features the likeness of everyone's favorite Turf War cat referee and one of two remaining mammals on the planet (for now) Judd.
All three of these final Mii Fighter costumes will be available on October 18 and will cost $0.75 USD for each piece. That day will also see the release of Sora, who is bringing his Keyblade to the battle. You can learn all about his inclusion to the roster here.

HBO has released the first teaser trailer for its Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon. The show takes place 200 years before the events of the original series and puts a spotlight on a yet-to-implode House Targaryen.
House of the Dragons is partially based on author George R.R. Martin's 2018 book, Fire & Blood, and tells the story of the decline of the Targaryens. By the time Game of Thrones began, the family had already collapsed, with Daenerys Targaryen as one of its few survivors. House of the Dragons lets fans see the silver-haired dragon tamers closer to their peak and witness the events leading to the civil war that ultimately destroyed them.
Writer and producer Ryan J. Condal (Rampage, Colony) and George R.R. Martin serve as principal showrunners. The show's cast includes Matt Smith (Prince Daemon Targaryen), Emma D'Arcy (Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen), Eve Best (Princess Rhaenys Velaryonand), Olivia Cooke (Lady Alicent Hightowerand), and Paddy Considine (King Viserys I Targaryen).
House of the Dragons premieres in 2022 and will only be available on HBO Max.

Nintendo has revealed that Sora is the final fighter joining the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
This news was announced today as part of the final Sakurai Presents, and the reveal came as a major surprise, but not because fans didn't want Sora. In fact, Smash. Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Sora has been the most requested fighter to date.
When Nintendo sent out the Super Smash Bros. fan roster request survey back in the 3DS and Wii U Smash days, Sora was the fighter fans wanted the most. It took six years, but the day is finally here: Sora is now a fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
He'll be available for purchase on October 18, the same day the game's three new Mii Fighter costumes become available. Like previously-released fighters, Sora can be purchased individually for $5.99 or as part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass Vol. 2, which costs $29.99.
In terms of what to expect, Sora's default skin is his Kingdom Hearts 1 design, but don't fret – there are skins for many of the other games and forms of Sora throughout the franchise. More specifically, fans can choose between Sora's Kingdom Hearts 1 default design, his Kingdom Hearts 2 default form, Sora's Kingdom Hearts 2 Valor and Wisdom Forms, the default Kingdom Hearts 3 design, the Kingdom Hearts 3 Ultimate Form, and Sora's Timeless River design from the world of the same name in Kingdom Hearts 2.
In terms of how Sora plays, if you're familiar with the Kingdom Hearts franchise, you've already got a good idea of what to expect. Much like in the Kingdom Hearts series, Sora will fight primarily with his Keyblade, although he can use magic moves such as Thundaga and Firaga as well.
Sora can heal himself with Curaga too, and fans of the series may recognize his Sonic Blade move that can be used as a horizontal attack or a way to recover. He can use an Aerial Sweep to recover upwards as well. Check out the full Sakurai Presents for more information about Sora's playstyle.
Sakurai also revealed the new Kingdom Hearts stage, Hollow Bastion, the home of Maleficent, who is a central protagonist throughout the series. The stage also transforms into the Dive To The Heart form, which is reminiscent of the dark and brooding stained glass stages seen throughout the Kingdom Hearts franchise (think: the opening play area of the original Kingdom Hearts).
Those who purchase Sora gain nine Kingdom Hearts tracks: Night of Fate, Destiny's Force, Shrouding Dark Cloud, Hand in Hand, Blast Away! – Gummi Ship II, Hollow Bastion, Scherzo Di Notte, Fragments of Sorrow, and Destati. Players with save data from the Nintendo Switch version of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory unlock the special Swing Version of Dearly Beloved as well, bringing the total tracks up to 10.

The size of the maps has also changed to accommodate up to 128 players, making this the largest Battlefield game yet.
One of the biggest changes to the series is the introduction of specialists, which adds more flexibility to the class system. In previous games, many players would pick a class because certain weapons were locked to that class, meaning they weren't making the most of their gadgets. The specialists system allows you to have whatever loadout you want, and your chosen specialist's gadget and trait go on top of that loadout.
We only have information on the first five specialists, but EA has confirmed Battlefield 2042 will launch with ten. Picking the right specialist boils down to which gadget and trait you are drawn to.
Fortnite joins the line-up of games gearing up for the spooky season. Epic Games has announced that its flagship battle royale game's annual Halloween-flavoured event Fortnitemares has now returned, with new maps, games, experiences, and cosmetics. There's also a "special" limited-time mode and another Short Nite film fest coming this month.
Fortnitemares' 2021 edition kicks off with a bunch of community-made, Halloween-themed games and experiences which you can find in the playlist menu's aptly named Fortnitemares section. These are the winning results of Epic's call for creator maps earlier this year, with the studio explaining at the time that it would be "featuring more of your creations than ever before through Discovery" - so it sounds like there'll be lots on offer.
The October event also has a bunch of new and returning Halloween-themed outfits, with some "legendary monsters" coming to the game's shop over the next few weeks and "classic Fortnite characters getting new Halloween twists". These will be revealed through playing card-style teasers and unveilings on this page each week as the event goes on, with a card flipping over each time a new cosmetic hits the store.
The day is fast approaching when we'll get to head to the island of Yara for the next adventure in Ubisoft's long-running Far Cry series. The Far Cry 6 release date is set for October 7, and now we know exactly when we'll get to dive in on the big day, with Ubisoft having confirmed the Far Cry 6 release time for reach region around the world.
Ubisoft has announced the Far Cry 6 release times in a blog post on the studio's site with a handy graphic showing us when it goes live to play in each region, which we've included for you below. The open-world FPS game takes players to a fictional Caribbean island ruled by dictator 'El Presidente' Antón Castillo (portrayed by Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito) and puts you in the shoes of rebel fighter Dani Rojas to try and topple both the tyrannical regime and its leader.
Far Cry 6 will be available via the developer-publisher's own platform Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store at launch for PC players (though not Steam), as well as both last and current gen consoles, Stadia, and Luna. Succubus is out and is coming for your hard drive space. The game weighs in at a whopping 60 GB, making it one of the indie games with the largest install sizes around. And, while it is an indie, it also has some fairly demanding specs. Well, not that demanding, but more power than most non-AAA games require. It makes sense that Samudra won an award from Unity for Humanity, a platform created to change lives and make an impact. But, it doesn't always stick the landing in video game form. Pre-loading for the beta began today, October 5, for both early access and open beta players. Pawnbarian is a dungeon crawling roguelike but not one you've played before. It's turn-based and tile-based but your movement is based on the rules of various Chess pieces you have in cards. Note: key provided by the developer.
An absolutely fantastic idea that's presented wonderfully. It's easy to get into and quite difficult to properly master your way through the various dungeons offered. A tactical dungeon crawler that needs you to carefully plan you moves, and think ahead otherwise you're dead. You are a warrior piece on a 5x5 chessboard thrown onto the tiny dungeon floor with a bunch of enemies, including bloodthirsty Capybears, imposing Golems, and eldritch Blightsacks.
The way it works is that you're given a deck of cards, each representing a traditional Chess piece and you play them to be able to move your hero. Each card has the movement rules of the corresponding Chess piece, so your movement is limited to where they would be able to go on the small boards. As you progress through you get to buy more health or upgrade your cards to get additional powers.
If you already know the basics of Chess, it's simple to get into but thanks to the setting it does require plenty of new thinking due to the varied types of enemies with their unique hostile abilities. Land on an enemy to destroy them, make it to the top of the board to promote a Pawn to a Queen which then gives your new card a big boost.
Pawnbarian can actually be quite difficult when faced with the varies enemies. Some of them cannot be taken down while you're right next to them, some have a wide area they can attack in while others can fire from a distance. It can get a bit complicated the first few times, as you need to learn the abilities of each piece. The game communicates what will happen nicely though, as you always know the tiles enemies will be able to attack you in so it's all about planning around their attacks and possible movements.
It really is such a glorious blending of games that doesn't leave much room to dislike it, everything fits together very nicely.
