Kotaku Thursday, January 20, 2022 5:30 AM Casio has released a slew of limited and special edition watches over the years. As a proud owner of the Japanese-made GW5000-I JF, which sports a stainless steel case back, I'm a big fan of Casio and G-Shock. PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 7:27 AM Want to know more about the upcoming Genshin Impact events? A new version of Genshin Impact arrives every six weeks, complete with new characters, quests, and events. It's difficult to keep track of which events are currently running and if there are any new ones coming soon, so here's a schedule for all current and upcoming Genshin Impact events. Genshin Impact has a number of events running simultaneously, and they aren't just in-game events. When a new Genshin Impact character joins the game, the devs launch a web event at the same time - players learn about the latest characters through an interactive story told through a web browser. The rewards for completing different events range from in-game items like primogems and mora, to real life prizes like mouse mats and plushies. Just like the Genshin Impact banners, most events are only available for a limited time, so it's worth participating as soon as you can. New events are usually added to Genshin Impact after an update, but it's worth keeping an eye out on this page as the devs do like to surprise the community. PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 7:16 AM A gaming keyboard and mouse set-up is the bee's knees if you're playing strategy games, point and click adventures, or other genres of a similar mould. However, if you're a gamer who enjoys racing games or perhaps action-adventure games, then you may find that a proper pad will serve you better. For those who are in the market for a new gaming controller, you'll be pleased to know that the Razer Wolverine Ultimate gaming controller is now $70 off on Best Buy. So what makes the Razer Wolverine Ultimate so special? Is it made of adamantium? Well, not quite, but it does offer a plethora of features that will go a long way towards enhancing your gaming experience. For starters, it comes with interchangeable thumbsticks and D-pad, so you can configure it to suit the particular game you happen to be playing at the time. In a similar vein, it has a multi-functional ergonomic button layout which can be remapped however you please. Do you enjoy the delicious fruits that grow on both the PC and the console tree? Then you may be pleased to hear that this controller is compatible with your gaming PC and Xbox console. It's good to have that consistency when playing across different platforms. PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 7:22 AM Earlier this month, New World developer Amazon Games pushed a whole bunch of changes to the MMORPG's public testing realm (PTR) for fans to test-drive ahead of the next major patch. Among a bunch of balance changes and updates, there's a significant new feature coming that'll shake up endgame combat called Expedition Mutators - and it sounds like this is something the devs want to introduce even more of in the future. "We love variety!" world experience lead Mike Willette tells us. "There are a ton of different MMOs, roguelikes, and action-adventure games that inspired our first steps in developing Mutators. We wanted ways to challenge players and give them awesome rewards. We developed layers of challenges through the many afflictions, family types, and abilities offered in the game. Each one needs to be dealt with differently, requires better gear and teamwork, and gives better rewards!" For context, Expedition Mutators are essentially modifiers that add some variety by "augmenting 'normal' and 'named' enemies found within Expeditions, changing the way encounters play out and what strategies players should consider before battle", as Amazon initially explained. Unique combinations of Expeditions and Mutations rotate each week, and players battle their way up a ladder of difficulty, up to the top encounters which should be "extremely difficult". PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 7:06 AM On the lookout for the best Warzone Pacific loadout? The first mid-season update to Call of Duty's popular battle royale game is here, introducing a new weapon, new playlists, and most importantly, balance changes. There were a lot of small tweaks to the Vanguard weapons, though there was nothing in particular to drastically change the meta in a big way. Despite the plentiful ground loot in Caldera's hot zones, you'll want a reliable build to help you take out the opposition as you try to outrun the encroaching gas cloud. Using create-a-class loadouts from Vanguard's multiplayer mode in Warzone, you can customise your weapons with the best Warzone attachments, tactical equipment, and perks. Our best Warzone Pacific setups differ from our favourite builds for Vanguard's multiplayer mode as they're optimised for Caldera's vast environments. Not only do the weapons in Warzone Pacific feature tweaked stats, we also have to take into consideration Warzone's armour plates and the additional player count. We've used our extensive knowledge of Warzone to pass on our victory prowess to you - use our best loadouts for Warzone Pacific to dominate the competition. |
PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 7:03 AM It's Thursday, GTA fans, and you know what that means. GTA Online's weekly update is here, and while Rockstar Games hasn't put the official notes on the Newswire just yet, players have dipped into Los Santos to see what's new this week. The significant new addition this time is a fresh set of wheels. The Obey I-Wagen is now available to purchase from Southern San Andreas Super Autos for $1,720,000 in-game currency. Rockstar introduced the electric four-door mid-size crossover SUV to GTA Online as part of The Contract update, so you may have seen it already if you've been doing some work for Franklin. If you're looking to raise some dosh this week, though, you'll want to keep an eye out for Simeon's contact missions as they're paying out triple the usual rewards. Meanwhile, the South Central Leak investigation mission and Hardest Target adversary mode pay double the bonuses if you fancy a change of pace. The former is one of the missions from The Contract update, while the latter is a two-team mode where one member from each team starts with more armour. RELATED LINKS: GTA 5 mods, GTA 6, Buy GTA V |
PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 7:20 AM When is the GTA 6 release date? Considering it's been eight years since GTA V was released and a sixth game is little more than rumours at this point, it's hard to say. The usual rule of thumb used to be that Rockstar released new entries to the GTA franchise every four or five years - but by that logic GTA 6 should have released four years ago, so that's out the window. The year is now 2022, and Grand Theft Auto 6 still hasn't been announced yet. We're very much hoping for some GTA 6 news soon though, as our insatiable appetite for biting satire and a good carjacking knows no bounds. The previous Grand Theft Auto game was almost inconceivably massive and entertaining. GTA V's sales numbers are off the charts, too, and player numbers remain impressive which might explain why the next game is taking so long to emerge. Rockstar has little need to hurry. While we wait, we've rounded up all the latest GTA 6 rumours in one place with our suggestions for what we'd like to see, no matter what form the new Grand Theft Auto ends up taking. Below you'll find everything we know about GTA 6. |
PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 7:21 AM You'll want to act fast and make sure your gaming PC meets the Hitman 3 system requirements, as it's coming to both Steam and PC Game Pass today! We reckon it's one of the best games of 2021, and Agent 47's latest outing is set to reach new heights in 2022 with the game's ongoing Year 2 update. All three games in the Hitman trilogy can now be played in VR, but there are a host of other visual and performance improvements coming to the game's Glacier engine as well. Ray traced reflections and shadows are due to arrive "later in 2022", and we can only hope this means we'll be able to see our target's faces reflecting perfectly on 47's shiny head. Hitman 3 will be one of the first games to support Intel XeSS upscaling technology, as well as Nvidia DLSS. Both of these solutions should help to boost fps, but it remains to be seen which solution provides superior image quality. Variable rate shading will also alleviate your GPU's workload when it eventually arrives. RELATED LINKS: Best SSD for gaming, How to build a gaming PC, Best gaming CPU |
PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 6:09 AM Compatibility has been a point of concern regarding the Steam Deck since it was first announced, with Valve opting to use its own Linux-based SteamOS rather than Windows. Now, with the handheld gaming PC's release date fast approaching, compatibility categories are finally starting to appear on some Steam games. As pointed out by Reddit user Cool-Arrival-2617, it's now possible to see which games have passed through 'Deck Verified' program by searching SteamDB. Only 67 games currently have a compatibility category, but it's likely that Valve will quickly add more as we get closer to the Steam Deck's launch date. After all, the company did hire people to test all 50,000 games available on Steam. Sadly, there's no way to discern what category a game has been assigned via this method. Valve says it's currently working on a way for users to check their own libraries ahead of launch, but this is yet to materialise. There's currently a workaround that you can use for now with the Firefox browser, which we've detailed below. RELATED LINKS: Steam FAQ, Steam family sharing, Steam in-home streaming |
PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 6:36 AM The Minecraft phantom is a flying hostile mob, preying on those that have gone over three in-game days without sleeping for dieing. Their beady green eyes can spot you from very far away, so come prepared. A Minecraft phantom leaves a trail of puffy grey smoke as it circles idly, which can be observed in creative mode, as it won't attack. The Minecraft phantom takes extra damage if hit with a sword that's enchanted with smite, or harmed by the instant health effect. They are, however, immune to poison and invert the effects of instant damage potions. They attack by swooping down and don't hover in the same place for too long, which can make it difficult to get a good hit with a bow. A sword is the best way to strike down the phantom, or you can send in your tamed wolf. If all else fails the phantom isn't a fan of cats, usually staying a 16 block distance from any felines - it will flee if your tamed cat hisses. PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 5:45 AM So, you want to play Project Zomboid multiplayer? The recently released build 41 of the indie zombie survival game overhauled multiplayer and made it easier than ever to try (and eventually fail) to survive the zombie apocalypse with your friends. Whether it's local split-screen with up to four, or online with a veritable hoard of 126 players, you'll never have to die alone ever again if you don't want to. Joining a game is easy, but you can also host servers if you want; which like most games without a dedicated multiplayer backend, this will require some setup on your part first. Note that if you're using the Steam client, you can only join other Steam-based servers. Assuming that's not an issue though, all you need to do to join a Project Zomboid multiplayer server is go to the main menu and click the 'Join' option. This will open a new window with a list of available servers. If you find one you like, don't forget to add it to your favourites lists so you can come back to it later. |
PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 5:48 AM Pearl Abyss has introduced 93 updates to MMO Black Desert Online in its latest patch, which comes in at 869.73 MB in size if you're curious. While the update touches on many things, the lion's share is dedicated to the much-anticipated class tweaks. Before we get into the classes themselves, there are specific character changes that should benefit many. The team has fixed an issue where your movements would appear abnormal if you got struck with knockback or stiffness debuffs while engaged in life skill actions like moving or reloading. An issue that caused your screen to rotate around your character if you reloaded the matchlock has also been "improved". As for the classes themselves, you've got changes to the warrior, ranger, sorceress, and much more. The warrior's spinning flash attack should now give the appropriate critical hit rate buff in PvP, and black spirit's rage skills have been changed up - with damage reduction in PvP being changed accordingly. The warrior isn't the only class to have its black spirit skills changed, though, as the sorceress, berserker, tamer, and others have got some TLC. RELATED LINKS: Black Desert Online guide |
PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 5:13 AM Want to know how to complete the Halo Infinite weekly challenges? Every week you can unlock a free cosmetic for your Spartan. To get this new look, you have to complete a list of challenges, and play a lot of matches. These challenges also give you experience points you use to level up the Halo Infinite battle pass. Challenges can be found in the battle pass menu and it lists the current active challenges and upcoming challenges. Each challenge is colour-coded by difficulty, so bright grey challenges are the easiest, the bluish-grey challenges are of medium difficulty, and the bright blue ones are the most challenging. One of the upcoming challenges will take its place when you complete a challenge, though which challenge it is, is random. Once you've completed each challenge, you're given one more challenge before you can claim your weekly reward. This challenge is the same for everyone. In this guide, we'll give you tips on how to complete the Halo Infinite weekly challenges in your queue, explain what the weekly ultimate challenge is, and what the weekly ultimate challenge reward is for this week. PCGamesN Thursday, January 20, 2022 5:18 AM When is the Babylon's Fall release date? The upcoming action game from Platinum Games is shrouded in mystery but already has plenty of lore, and thanks to a reveal at TGA 2021 we now know the release date too. Revealed during the Square Enix E3 2018 showcase, Babylon's Fall was unveiled with a rough release date, but scarce few details to go on apart from that. There was no gameplay on display, and no subsequent explanation of what the new IP is all about. It was also delayed out of the 2019 window we were expecting and has only recently had a more solid release date provided. This is an action-RPG that can support up to four players playing in co-op, where you can join forces to fight back against an evil empire ravaging the world for its own gains. You can customise your weapon loadouts by wielding up to four at once. As per the game's Steam page: "only by mastering the powers of your Gideon Coffin, will you unlock your true potential and become strong enough to survive the summit and uncover the secrets that await." |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, January 20, 2022 7:30 AM Strategy games set in space are almost innately ambitious. The very concept of doing anything meaningful in an infinite void, let alone making it playable and entertaining, is a challenging one, and for every game that reaches for the stars there are countless kinds of... spiraling chaos orbitals. Between its design flaws and unique ideas with semi-brilliant execution, the 2010 4X/wargame/economic/management simulation Distant Worlds: Universe has straddled those two experiences for a decade. It's needed a sequel for a long time. Distant Worlds 2 is that sequel, and it's almost upon us. Last week I attended a live demo and Q&A session with its producer and co-designer Erik Rutkins. With only a hands-off demo to go on I obviously can't say for sure how it plays yet, but it's already looking very promising. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, January 20, 2022 4:00 AM We're in a bit of a "love letter" media period right now. Some old things come back with new things to say, like The Matrix Resurrections, and some old things come back simply to enjoy themselves, and remind yesteryear fans what they loved about the original in the first place, like Scream. Windjammers 2 falls firmly into the latter category. After successfully resurrecting Streets Of Rage for another bout in 2020, developer Dotemu are up to the same old tricks, bringing Windjammers all the way back from 1994 (before I was even born) with a fresh coat of paint and some brand new ultimate frisbee-style action in this sequel. |
