Kotaku Monday, June 13, 2022 1:35 PM "These aren't just backdrops," Bethesda's Todd Howard told game journalists while pointing to a mountain range off in the distance during an E3 2011 demo for The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 12:56 PM One of the first things to learn about living in Warhammer 40k: Darktide's dangerous hive undercity is that a chainsword works whether or not it's switched on. Without powering it on, you can use it as a perfectly good cudgel that can also help with pushing back hordes of the Chaos-touched. At the press of a button, however, it'll chew through armour and bone with an upsettingly satisfying ease. That's the mode you'll want for one-on-one encounters with Hive Tertium's more dangerous elites. Developer Fatshark brought Darktide to Summer Game Fest Play Days in Los Angeles, and I played two sessions, and the experience left me excited. Darktide is dripping with grimdark atmosphere, but this is more than a 40K-flavoured reskin of Vermintide 2. The new theme has driven a new focus on firearms and ranged combat, but Fatshark's managed to pull this off without sacrificing the frantic, in-your-face meatiness of the Vermintide games. During my first session, I play as the zealot. She's armed with both a powerful thunder hammer and a standard-issue Imperial autogun, and while I start out favouring the new rifle, my Vermintide reflexes kick in after a few minutes and I find myself frequently switching between ranged and melee. |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 12:44 PM Some things in life are inevitable, and Starfield bugs are right at the top of the list. Bethesda Softworks finally gave us what we've been waiting for during the Xbox Bethesda Games Showcase and presented several minutes' worth of Starfield gameplay. While we were digging into the backgrounds, planet names, and devotees of the jumping religion, one fan spotted something else: the first Starfield bug. The first bug shows up roughly halfway through the gameplay reveal, as the camera pans out around what looks like one of the Constellation bases. If you blink you'll miss it. In fact, if you don't zoom in, you'll probably still miss it. The only indication something potentially awry is taking place is a slight shudder from the NPC model. Reddit user LotteryGamer took a closer look and saw what seems to be the NPC looking backward in the normal way, and then getting their head stuck while their body continues moving forward. What makes this even better and gives it that usual Bethesda charm is the timing. Right as the NPC's head gets stuck in reverse, another character who's exiting the compound notices and just stares as the clip ends. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 12:30 PM Call of Duty: Warzone, with all its perks, scopes, and underbarrel attachments, has an essentially infinite number of weapons. But there's one – one particular, annoying, sticky little one – that guarantees to transform the fierce battle royale from fun to frustrating in just a couple of ticks: the Semtex stick. As well as being massively lethal, the Semtex attaches itself to any surface it touches – if someone throws it on you, you can pretty much kiss your game goodbye, since all you're left with is the choice of either running towards the opponent to try and take them with you, or flapping around in a circle, mashing buttons to try and tear off your character's trousers. It feels like karma for Halo: Combat Evolved, and those hours laughing at the Grunts when we stuck them with plasma grenades. Thankfully, though, a new trick has just been discovered in Warzone that can make Semtex-related instadeaths a thing of the past. All you need are a cool head, some quickfire reflexes, and a riot shield. RELATED LINKS: Warzone loadouts, Best AR in Warzone , best guns in Warzone |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 12:21 PM Lenovo's next best gaming laptops are coming, and they could make for a great budget Nvidia RTX rig. The newcomers come equipped with one of the green team's best graphics cards for on-the-go gaming while boasting an AMD Ryzen 6000 CPU, a combination that should help boost fps on the portable setup. Highlighted by Gizmochina, Lenovo's Legion R7000P and R9000P gaming laptops will feature respective AMD Ryzen 5 6600H and Ryzen 7 6800H CPUs. The latter top-end model packs Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti graphics, accompanied by lower-spec RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti variants. Both the Legion R7000P and R9000P come equipped with 16GB RAM and a 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, so you won't have to worry about making any immediate gaming laptop upgrades. Each model also boasts a 165Hz 1440p display, which should pair nicely with Lenovo's chosen range of specs. RELATED LINKS: Best SSD for gaming, How to build a gaming PC, Best gaming CPU |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 11:36 AM Alright, this is getting silly now. According to the Silent Hill movie director - who is apparently working on a third movie - Konami is planning a "global" Silent Hill reboot of the horror game franchise, and it's mostly thanks to the success of the Resident Evil series. Since the cancellation of the Hideo Kojima-directed Silent Hills and its P.T. demo, rumours of a new Silent Hill game in development have continued to spread - stating that there are multiple games planned, and Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team may be handling one of them. Other than DLC for Dead by Daylight, nothing has materialised. Adding fuel to the pyramid-shaped fire, Christophe Gans - the director of the first Silent Hill movie - explained in a French interview (thanks, ResetEra) that "the franchise is going to be relaunched in terms of videogames" and publisher Konami has "been galvanized by the success of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 reboots" to return to the world of Silent Hill. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 11:19 AM Want to know which Starfield background to choose? As you create your character in this massive space game, your origin story is one of the many options you have to pick. Each background has a short bio detailing what kind of person you are and three starting Starfield skills to set you on your way. Your Starfield background also affects how NPCs see you, from your Starfield companions to each of the many Starfield factions across the star system in this massive open-world game. Some may act friendly towards you or be reassured that a mission will be successful because of your past, while others may be more hostile if they learn about the company you used to keep. Currently, there are 16 backgrounds that we know about, and five that we have details about. So while we continue the agonising wait for the Starfield release date, and our chance to play Starfield on Xbox Game Pass, let's dive into all of the currently revealed Starfield backgrounds and bio entries, as well as which starting skills each of them have. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 11:13 AM Want an early peek at the Starfield traits you can choose for your character? This year's Xbox and Bethesda showcase offered us a first proper look at Starfield, Bethesda's highly anticipated upcoming sci-fi RPG game. Alongside gameplay footage of space exploration and low-gravity firefights, we also got a brief glimpse at Starfield's character creator. Touted by Todd Howard as "the most flexible yet", Bethesda's latest suite of character customisation tools lets you select up to three optional traits for some added flavour. Alongside your character's background and skills, Starfield traits offer a range of unique advantages and disadvantages, depending on which ones you pick. Choosing optional traits not only gives you the ability to influence gameplay in a variety of ways, such as granting access to additional dialogue options and determining faction allegiances, but it also provides a degree of individuality to the character you're playing. Bethesda fans will surely recognise this type of character customisation from the studio's previous titles. As in Fallout, Starfield's optional traits are a double-edged sword: a simple stat boost from one trait will be to the detriment of another stat, whereas a discount in one shop will render another vendor entirely inaccessible. Of course, stat boosts are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the optional traits Starfield has to offer. If you've ever wanted a mortgage in space, Starfield's got you covered. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 11:12 AM Scorn system requirements are here, and the first-person horror game could give your gaming PC nightmares. While the game doesn't require the best graphics card, its creators recommend playing the twisted tale using an Nvidia RTX GPU. According to Scorn system requirements on Steam, you're going to need at least an Nvidia GTX 1060 to run Ebb Software's grotesque FPS game. If you're looking to gaze at its gnarly visuals with higher settings enabled, the developer recommends using an RTX 2070 with 8GB VRAM. Scorn is also ravenous when it comes to RAM, you'll need at least 8GB just to get up and running. That figure doubles to 16GB if you're abiding by Ebb Software's recommendations, something that might mean adding more memory to your gaming laptop or desktop rig. As its file size, you'll need to free up 50GB to download Scorn on Steam, which could prove tricky if you've got shooters like Call of Duty: Warzone already installed. |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 10:35 AM Could a Call of Duty RPG game be in development? The creators of the phenomenal FPS game series, Infinity Ward, are currently finishing 2022's entry Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for release in October, but a job listing points to a possible open-world game as its next project. With the announcement of Modern Warfare 2, Activision and Infinity Ward promise that "a new era" of Call of Duty is about to start. Aside from the new Modern Warfare and the follow-up to Warzone, the studio could have a radically different project in the works too. A new job listing - which has since been pulled, but was saved by user Faizan Shaikh on Twitter - at Infinity Ward's Poland studio for a narrative director mentions an "unannounced triple-A project." While the Polish studio is a newer one, like Infinity Ward main it is primarily focused on the Call of Duty series and has assisted on both recent Modern Warfare games. That, and Activision's laser-like focus on the Call of Duty series, suggests that this may be a new Call of Duty game. |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 10:53 AM With the introduction of ray tracing via a recent upgrade patch, the Resident Evil 7 system requirements now require higher specs from your gaming PC. Support for DirectX 12 is now a must, which may lead to some older systems needing an upgrade or two. You'll now need to install Windows 11 or 10 in order to meet the updated Resident Evil 7 system requirements, in addition to making sure your rig has a compatible GPU. Thankfully, the barrier to entry isn't too high, with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 and AMD Radeon RX 460 make up the new minimum specs for the horror game Those with the best graphics cards have nothing to fear from the new Resident Evil 7 system requirements, and will be able to enjoy all the scares the game has to offer with a new coat of ray tracing paint. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 have also received the same upgrade treatment, and so you'll need the same specs listed here to run those games too. |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 10:03 AM A crafty modder has created a mini gaming PC with a vintage aesthetic, and it looks like something you'd use in Fallout 4. Emulating the look of an old woodgrain TV set, the build features a repurposed Windows tablet and an ATSC TV antenna, enabling it both to act as a computer and a way to catch your favourite TV shows. In a Reddit post, BuildsByZeek shares photos of the mini custom gaming PC in all its glory. The build even comes with a dinky woodgrain keyboard, which the modder says is a trimmed-down tablet accessory. Just like an old TV set, the box has a bunny ear antenna at the back, which feeds its USB ATSC tuner a signal. While the Windows tablet within this mini retro rig would likely struggle with big-budget releases, it could make for a great way to play less intensive indie games or stream from services like GeForce Now. Given the PC's Fallout 4 vibes, we're eager to see what the post-apocalyptic RPG game would look like on its screen, especially since the system screams Retrofuturism. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 10:01 AM Ark 2 will feature Dark Souls-like combat and "revolutionary cross-platform modding", says developer Studio Wildcard, which revealed more of the Vin Diesel-led dinosaur survival game at Summer Games Fest. Though we are still waiting on actual gameplay footage, Ark 2 is being billed as a third-person, melee-combat action game, specifically described by Studio Wildcard as similar to From Software's Elden Ring and Dark Souls series. Blocks, staggers, special attacks, and the ability to lock onto and track targets will form the basis of Ark 2's fighting mechanics, while movement and exploration will be more fluid – seemingly playing as Santiago, voiced and performed by the ever fast, always furious Vin Diesel, you will be able to slide, swing, free climb, and parkour around the game's alien world, suggesting something closer to Assassin's Creed or Uncharted. You'll also be able to install mods -- affecting everything from creature designs, to weapons, and maps -- regardless of what platform you're using. Ark 2 will feature fully stackable mod support, allowing Xbox and console players to tweak and customise their game just like they were playing on PC. Sharing mods across platforms should bring the Ark community closer together than ever – and as Mr Diesel likes to remind us, it's all about family. |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 10:40 AM Following a new upgrade patch, the Resident Evil 3 system requirements are slightly higher than when the horror game remake first released. As such, you may need to make some changes to your gaming PC if you're playing on an older version of Windows or using ageing hardware. The biggest change to the Resident Evil 3 system requirements can be found in its minimum specs, which now require a DirectX 12 compatible graphics card and operating system. For some, this will mean you'll need to install Windows 11 or 10 on your rig, while others will need to upgrade their GPU to something at least as new as an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon RX 460. However, those wanting Capcom's remake to look its very best will need to upgrade to one of the best graphics cards on the market that support ray tracing. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 7 have also received the same upgrade treatment, and so you'll need the same specs listed here to run those games too. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 9:33 AM Looking for details about all the shiny, space-age Starfield guns? We've finally had a chance to look at some gameplay for the upcoming RPG, and it looks like you're going to need an arsenal of sci-fi weapons on you at all times to survive across the game's 1,000 planets. Depending on the type of planet you drop on, its alien inhabitants might be the least of your concerns. If there's loot up for grabs, you might need to be cautious of piratical Starfield factions like the Crimson Fleet, who are trying to claim every precious resource they can get their mitts on. Be sure to carefully consider your Starfield guns before exploring a new planet as you need to plan for the dangers ahead. You don't have to fight against the aliens that wander around, but it's important to come equipped with the right weapon just in case any docile creatures suddenly become aggressive. We've only seen a tiny morsel of Starfield footage so far, but we've already spotted plenty of firearms, ranging from space punk SMGs and modded pistols, to more familiar fare like double-barrel shotguns and assault rifles. Here's everything we know about the Starfield guns so far. RELATED LINKS: Starfield release date, Best space games, Elder Scrolls 6 release date |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 9:00 AM If you're a Sonic the Hedgehog fan, by the time you read this, it's highly likely that you have already developed a (possibly very strong) opinion about Sonic Frontiers, the upcoming open-world game starring everyone's favourite high-speed hedgehog and his pals. There's only so much we can say about the roughly 45 minutes we played at Summer Game Fest, but the bits we can talk about - and stay with me on this - sure feel like a Sonic spin on Elden Ring. The demo opens with Sonic emerging from a portal of some kind onto a dreary, rain-swept system of cliffs and meadows, dotted with mysterious stone ruins. Sonic is instructed, in accordance with tradition, to seek out the Chaos Emerald, at which point he's free to roam - or at least, free to experience a series of onboarding tutorials that teach the fundamentals of traversal and combat. During my session, I selected the 'fast controls' option, which Sonic Frontiers says is designed for players familiar with Sonic games. I played my fair share of Sonic 3: Sonic and Knuckles, I reason, and so obviously that'll be the scheme for me. This was a bit foolhardy, it turns out. |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 8:19 AM The new Elden Ring update 1.05 is finally here, two months after the last one in April, and the patch notes reveal some welcome features - such as moving Ball Bearings to New Game Plus and a return to desktop option (finally) - but 1.05 also solves a weird mystery about Jarburg. The Elden Ring 1.05 patch notes are full of interesting new fixes and features for the acclaimed RPG game. For PC players the most wonderful news is the addition of a direct "return to desktop" option from in-game, so you don't have to go back to the main menu before you can quit. Furthermore, most Ball Bearings - that open up new store options with the Twin Maiden Husks - will now be moved over to your New Game Plus run, so you don't have to collect them again. There are loads of great fixes and additions but, just like with previous patches, there are hidden changes too. Players have already dug one of these, and it finally puts to rest the mystery around the road to Jarburg on the map. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 8:00 AM Minecraft has seen its fair share of recreations. Whether it's a YouTuber making their twisted take on Tetris, or just a fan creating their very own Dark Souls game, there's no shortage of blocky takes on other bits of media. It's only natural then, to know that there's a whole host of people out there creating Lord of the Rings-inspired Minecraft builds. While many of the builds we write about tend to be massive in scale and intricacy, this one from DesignMinion is all about the tiny details. DesignMinion posted a clip on Reddit of a new door they'd created, which is a stunning recreation of the magical door that leads to the Mines of Moria. Some scoff at the idea that it leads to a mine, while others are fairly certain it's actually a tomb. All we know for sure is that this is a stunning door. If you're looking at it and wondering how DesignMinion did it, they offer a detailed explanation, which almost makes it sound like you're browsing the IKEA catalogue. "The line art is white concrete blocks. The stone texture was made with stone, deepslate, cyan terracotta and stone 'staircases' that escalate towards the south to make the stone grey slightly brighter." PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 7:22 AM Starfield's religions, which you can choose from when selecting background, factions, and other traits when customising your character, include an obscure sect which forces you to repeatedly grav jump or risk losing health. Bethesda's Summer Games Fest presentation didn't focus much on Starfield's religions, but a closer look at the open-world game's extended character customisation trailer reveals that you have several options when initially selecting a faith, each providing both gameplay benefits and disadvantages. 'Serpent's Embrace' is the one that caught our eye. If you decide your character is going to be a follower of 'The Great Serpent', it means they have some sort of uncontrollable impulse to jump – if while navigating one of the game's 1,000 planets you continually use your boosters to grav jump, it will give you a temporary boost to health and endurance, but neglect to jump and the Serpent will be displeased, punishing you by lowering your key stats accordingly. Imagine being at a nightclub, and feeling like you have to bounce up and down to 'Mr Brightside' or everyone will think you're a killjoy. It's a bit like that, but in space. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 7:14 AM Goat Simulator 3 system requirements aren't ridiculous, but you'll want to revamp your rig's RAM to cause chaos at recommended settings. The slapstick sandbox comedy game's specs might also put older gaming PC builds to the test, especially if you haven't upgraded your graphics card in a while. According to Coffee Stain's Goat Simulator 3 system requirements, you'll need a GPU on par with the Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti to boot into the bonkers open-world game. If you'd rather play the game with higher settings, the developer recommends using a GTX 1070 – a card that wields 8GB VRAM. In terms of memory, your gaming PC will need at least 8GB to run Goat Simulator 3, but you'll need 16GB to enjoy the game at its best. While Coffee Stain's recommendations are noticeably lofty, they're also a testament to the fact that modern games require more RAM than ever before, especially if they contain a particularly large open world. So, you might want to consider getting ahead of the curve by investing in the best gaming RAM, as upcoming blockbusters like Starfield will likely need it. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 10:40 AM The Resident Evil 2 system requirements have undergone some changes since the horror game remake shambled its way on to gaming PCs back in 2019. This is due to an upgrade patch that introduces ray tracing and several other features but also axes support for DirectX 11, leading to a slight bump up in the minimum specs. Now, the Resident Evil 2 system requirements demand you install Windows 11 or 10 in addition to equipping your rig with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon RX 460 GPU or newer. However, you'll need one of the best graphics cards on hand to enjoy the game's ray tracing options. Thankfully, there are no other differences lurking within the refreshed Resident Evil 2 system requirements, meaning most people shouldn't even notice these behind the scenes changes. Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7 have also received the same upgrade treatment, and so you'll need the same specs listed here to run those games too. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 6:59 AM Alder Lake processors may rank among the best gaming CPUs you can buy today, but their time in the spotlight is almost over, as the Raptor Lake release date is just around the corner. Now, with the launch of the company's soon-to-be best gaming CPUs drawing ever closer, new details have emerged on the kind of performance and specs we can expect from the second generation LGA 1700 chips. New specification and benchmark data on the Alder Lake successor arrives courtesy of SiSoftware, giving us our first in-depth look at a high-end Raptor Lake flagship processor, the Core i9 13900 (via Videocardz). The CPU features eight performance and 16 efficiency cores, 24 in total and 8 more than its predecessor, the i9 12900. Additionally, the chip's L3 cache is 20% larger and supports DDR5 gaming RAM up to 5,600MHz (up from 4,800 on 12th Gen). These Raptor Lake i9 13900 specs translate into a 33-50% performance improvement in ALU/FPU tests in the SiSoftware Sandra benchmarking software, versus its Alder Lake predecessor. Meanwhile, other vectorised/SIMD tests netted 5-8% gains. RELATED LINKS: Arc Alchemist GPUs - everything we know, Raptor Lake CPUs - everything we know, Best gaming CPU |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 6:35 AM In a surprising turn of events, the eagerly-anticipated RPG game Diablo 4 had a big showing and a Necromancer gameplay reveal at the Xbox showcase - and along with that, the first details on Diablo 4 DLC were revealed, which is "anchored" around cosmetic microtransactions and "full story-driven expansions." Just before Summer Game Fest, a job listing for Blizzard confirmed that Diablo 4 would have an in-game store - which the publisher calls "a key component of Diablo 4's seasonal content strategy." At the time, though, we could only guess what would actually be in the store, but a number of fans had concerns over microtransactions - especially as Diablo Immortal loot boxes possibly got the game banned from release in some countries. These concerns were spotted by Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson, who took to Twitter to confirm that Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal are two very different games, with different DLC strategies. Fergusson states that Diablo 4 is "a full-price game" built expressly for PC and consoles, with support planned "for years to come." PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 6:26 AM So, you want to know the best Heizou team in Genshin Impact? The next new Genshin Impact character may not have a confirmed release date yet, but the current rumour suggests the Heizou banner may drop as part of Genshin Impact 2.8. Details about Heizou's kit have leaked online via Honey Hunter World, so this means we can engage in some good old fashioned theory crafting. We've already taken a stab at the best Heizou build in terms of artifacts, but figuring out the best Genshin Impact Heizou team is also important. Early indications suggest he's more than capable of taking on a main DPS role, which is surprising considering he's also rumoured to be a catalyst user - Genshin's version of a magic class. The very best Heizou team makes full use of top tier Genshin Impact characters, as well as new characters recently released to the anime game. There are also some very solid options for free-to-play players as well, and we recommend you read on for everything you need to know about putting together an awesome Heizou team. Remember, this is subject to change as he's not out yet, and his final abilities have not been confirmed. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 7:09 AM Bethesda's open-world, space RPG Starfield will allow you to get a mortgage, harking back to the debt-ridden days of The Elder Scrolls: Dagger – or more recently, Animal Crossing. Summer Games Fest has given us a lot of tantalising new details about Starfield. It will have 1000 planets you can freely explore. You can customise your ship and have dogfights. There's a photo mode, to capture the universe in all its glory. But what Bethesda didn't mention – but that you can spot, if you pay eagle-eyed attention to the trailer for the game's character creation screen – is that when you select your background trait, one of the options, 'starter home', lumps you with a 50,000 credit mortgage. Wow! Space debt! Of course, you get something nice for your money – 'a small house on a peaceful little moon', according to the in-game description. But you'll owe it all to the frankly sinister-sounding 'GalBank'. We can only speculate what happens if you don't make your payments, although 'Space Bank Manager' does sound like it would make for a pretty good boss fight. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, June 13, 2022 12:26 PM Abib the troubadour killed an ancient evil spirit by throwing his knife at it. Tinyfolks is not a "story generator" sort of game, but that fight removed any doubt that it was excellent. There's no shortage of dungeon-ish turn based combat games, nor of those made of all the usual fantasy archetypes, nor of pixelly low-fi games with bleepy bloopy music. Nor again are we likely to run short of games that combine some or all of the above. But like a good meal, combining even the most common ingredients in just the right way can make them delicious. It doesn't matter that you're a monarch ousted by evil forces, now set on reclaiming your land within 45 days by fighting tonnes of monsters until your team is tough enough to kill the big nasty. What matters is that you'll have a great time doing it. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, June 13, 2022 12:07 PM Steam Next Fest has launched with, among 1000-plus indie demos, a playable slice of SCP: Secret Files. It's the latest in a line of games based on the SCP Foundation wiki, a collection of mainly horror-focused stories and faux-reports around a shadowy cleanup organisation and the weird, nature-defying shit they capture and cover up. Judging so far, it's also shaping up to be perhaps the most complete attempt at an SCP game yet. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, June 13, 2022 11:08 AM Starfield is the next big new game from Bethesda Game Studios, and it's a pretty big deal because they haven't made something that isn't a Fallout game or an Elder Scrolls game in like... ever. So everyone was pretty excited to see what this new space RPG holds at the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase stream this weekend. And, sure enough, we actually got a pretty big eyeful of it. Now, keep in mind that this game is set in outer space, the vast expanse and wonders of which we cannot ken. You could do any cool, awe-inspiring thing you want with space. Crystal waterfalls that flow backwards into the sky. Aurora borealis-like lights but so low down they whip along at ground level. Deserts of hot-pink dust sprouting deep blue rock spires. Destiny 2 has some cool planets, for example. Imagine my confusion, then, when the footage of Bethesda's brand new IP made it look like they've accidentally done Fallout or Elder Scrolls again. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, June 13, 2022 11:05 AM My favourite spot in Berband's colourful night city is a tiny quiet backalley bar at a hole in a wall, and my first task in Nivalis will be attempting to recapture that mood. Nivalis is a slice-of-life sim set in the same cyberpunk city as hovercar courier game Cloudpunk, where we'll get to run bars and restaurants, grow ingredients, fish, make friends, and maybe even find love. So like a cyberpunk Stardew Valley? Have a look in the new trailer. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, June 13, 2022 10:32 AM We finally glimpsed our first look at some in-game footage from interstellar RPG Starfield at yesterday's Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, and it had the feel of a less retro Fallout 4. Everyone knows that the true heart of any RPG is the character creation screen though. It's just science. Speaking of which, Starfield's character creation menus are modelling themselves on some real-life science, namely molecular biology. That's cool, I think. |

Siliconera Monday, June 13, 2022 1:30 PM In an interview with IGN, Capcom Director Takayuki Nakayama and Street Fighter 6 Producer Shuhei Matsumoto shared more information about what players can expect in the next iteration in the franchise. This included elaboration on the World Tour Mode that will appear in Street Fighter 6. Essentially, that mode alone would be big enough to be its own game. [Thanks, IGN!] This is what Director Nakayama had to say about the World Tour Mode in Street Fighter 6:
The developers also mentioned that the first stage of the World Tour Mode will take place in Metro City, a location that appeared in Final Fight. Information about other stages will appear in future updates about Street Fighter 6, according to Director Nakayama. While Luke may appear to be the protagonist of Street Fighter 6, players will take that role in the title's World Tour Mode. People will be able to "carve out their own legend" according to the official website. Nakayama did not confirm that major characters from Street Fighter will appear in this game mode. That said, more information detailing the mode will be announced in the future. Street Fighter 6 is in development for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. It will launch in 2023. Siliconera Monday, June 13, 2022 9:30 AM Square Enix will close the Japanese server for Fantasy Earth Zero on September 28, 2022. The MMORPG will have lasted for over fifteen years by the time of its shutdown. Square Enix initially launched the online game in 2006 in Japan as Fantasy Earth ~The Ring of Dominion~, a paid game with monthly subscription payments. Gamepot relaunched the online title as a free-to-play game titled Fantasy Earth Zero later in the same year. The latter launch proved to be more successful, and it reached one million players in 2011. Zero also appeared briefly in North America in May 2010. However, it did not last a year, as Gamepot shut it down in March 2011. The online game operator later transferred the game's management to Square Enix in 2015. The PC MMORPG also lasted longer than its mobile successor. Square Enix launched Fantasy Earth Genesis for iOS and Android devices in September 2018. However, it only lasted one and a half years, as the company shut down Genesis in March 2020. Fantasy Earth Zero is also known for featuring crossover content from other franchises. Besides the in-house Bravely Default, Square Enix included content from anime titles like Fate/Zero. The company also worked with Nihon Falcom to add outfits modeled after Trails series characters. Fantasy Earth Zero is available for Windows PCs in Japan until September 28, 2022. The post Square Enix Will Shut Down the MMORPG Fantasy Earth Zero appeared first on Siliconera. |

WGB, Home of AWESOME Reviews Monday, June 13, 2022 9:49 AM The world's foremost socially distancing testicle surgeon is back to ensure there will never be any Nazi offspring. Yes, it's Sniper Elite 5, a double-A series that has, over the years, somehow managed to sneak its way into my heart. Although they may be janky, there's a charm and sense of fun to the Sniper Elite series that makes it hugely endearing. And having absorbed even more of the Hitman vibe, Sniper Elite 5 is, in many ways, the best one yet. But there are a few badly aimed shots, too. So grab a rifle, zero in the scope, take a deep breath and....grab a cup of coffee. And put the rifle back down, you'll take someone's testicles out with that thing. Yeesh. |
