Kotaku Monday, June 13, 2022 9:10 PM Back in March, Elden Ring was the straw that broke my back when it came to PC games not letting players exit quickly and neatly to the desktop. Three months later, it's lovely to see that FromSoftware have decided to ease our collective suffering. |

Kotaku Monday, June 13, 2022 5:40 PM Review aggregation sites are hardly the arbiter of a game's quality, particularly when it comes to user reviews, and particularly in the era of review-bombing. Still, some data points are unignorable: As noted by VGC, Blizzard's recent Diablo Immortal now holds claim to the lowest user score on Metacritic. |
Kotaku Monday, June 13, 2022 5:04 PM In years past, this would have been the week for the big annual June Nintendo Direct, but in 2022 the Mario maker is so far nowhere to be seen. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 8:59 PM Exoprimal has a bit of everything for action lovers - powerful Exosuits, team-based battles, and an unfathomable number of dinosaurs raining down from portals in the sky, all of whom are ready to hunt you down and cause a lot of trouble. These dinosaurs are ferocious, focused, and do not fight among themselves - you and your companions are their only targets. And if they weren't dangerous enough on their own, your team of five will also be facing off against another squad, Both teams will be vying to complete objectives before their opponents in order to win the match. It's a good thing you'll be encased in an Exosuit that's capable of fending off wave after wave of raptors. Being a team-focused game, you'll need to make sure that you're choosing a class that you're not only comfortable playing as, but also one that complements the rest of your team make-up. You have three main classes to choose from, but each class has a range of Exosuits to pick as well, so you won't be limited to just one way of approaching each challenge that you have to take on. |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 7:00 PM It's time to Exosuit up and get ready to face off against an army of dinosaurs that are teleporting from the sky. Exoprimal's Closed Network Test is coming soon, allowing you to get your hands on the game and try out its 5v5 team-based battles for yourself. The Closed Network Test will run during July, with sign-ups opening soon. The lucky ones who manage to get themselves access to the game will have the chance to try it out before anyone else, allowing them to unleash fury on relentless hordes of dinosaurs before the game's full release in 2023. You'll be able to play as any of the game's three classes - Assault, Tank, and Support - and join up with a team of four other players in the Dino Survival mode. This mode has your squad battling against dinos to complete objectives set by an AI called Leviathan, who's tasked with assisting you on your mission. But be warned - there's another team also racing to complete objectives, and if they finish up before your team, then you lose. |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 6:52 PM Resident Evil Village DLC launches October 28 and includes three major additions: an update to Mercenaries, a new third-person perspective for the main campaign, and the Shadows of Rose expansion. And no, it looks like you still won't be able to see Ethan Winters' face in the horror game's third-person mode. What you will get is a new storyline in Shadows of Rose. Set 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village, Shadows of Rose follows Ethan and Mia's daughter, Rose, as she tries coming to terms with the source of her mysterious powers. We see a brief glimpse of Rose tormented by these powers, bullied at school and subject to intense mental stimulation and apparently a few gross things wriggling across her hands from time to time. Rose will enter the subconscious world to find what she hopes is a solution to her troubles, but whatever awaits her there, it clearly isn't good. Capcom said Rose will meet a girl who looks identical to her as she faces off against an endless array of psychological threats where even the world attacks her. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 6:46 PM A free Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak demo goes live June 14 and gives hunters a chance to explore one of the expansion's new regions and face off against several of the action RPG's vicious monsters. Capcom announced the demo during the Capcom Showcase 2022, where it unveiled the Jungle region, where the demo takes place. The Jungle in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak makes its return from the franchise's second generation, repurposed with new endemic life and other changes, including altered environments depending on the time of day. Expect plenty of chances to showcase Sunbreak's new skills here. Capcom also showed off a handful of the massive monsters you can expect to face off against. Espinas the thorn dragon is one, making its return from Monster Hunter Frontier. Espinas lulls foes into a false sense of security before showing its true nature and rampaging against all who stand in its way. Gore Magala, Monster Hunter 4's flagship monster, will also show up in Sunbreak, along with Daimyo Hermitaur and Pyre Rakna Kadaki. RELATED LINKS: Upcoming PC Games, Best PC RPGs |
PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 5:52 PM The Diablo IV quarterly update is here, with a deep dive into the Diablo 4 Necromancer class recently announced during the Xbox Bethesda showcase. While the lord of the undead may be familiar to series fans or anyone playing Diablo Immortal's Necromancer, Diablo 4 lead class designer Adam Jackson outlined a few key ways the team is tweaking the class in the action RPG to make it more flexible, with something to offer newcomers and longtime Necromancer mains alike. The Necromancer's key feature in Diablo IV is the Book of the Dead, a class-specific item you begin with automatically that lets you summon undead warriors and bend them to your will. The types of summon include skeleton warriors, mages, and golems, and you can further customize them from there. For example, warriors could specialize as reapers, defenders, or offensive-focused fighters, with unique playstyles for each sub-class and a set of abilities you can further customize. If you're not keen on one of the summon types, the Book of the Dead lets you choose the "Sacrifice" option to, well… sacrifice them. Doing so removes the option to summon them in exchange for a permanent character buff, though Jackson didn't elaborate on what the buffs will be. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 3:43 PM The parkour-flavoured zombie game Dying Light 2 gets its long-awaited (and much-requested) photo mode this week. Dying Light 2 update 1.4 adds photo mode, which will allow you to line up your own action-packed screenshots, but it also brings with it Dying Light 2's first piece of free narrative DLC. The update rolls out June 14. 'In the Footsteps of a Nightrunner' links you up with Harper, a former nightrunner who wants your help to take out some special infected that are threatening the people of the city. As you complete missions from Harper, you'll earn reputation points that unlock powerful new weapons, consumables, and outfits. You can find Harper hanging out at the Fish Eye Canteen. Dying Light 2's photo mode has the usual suite of options: you can freely move the camera around your character, and adjust the zoom, focus distance, and depth of field of the lens. There's also a selection of filters, styles, movie frames, and other ways to jazz up your final image before tapping F12. PCGamesN Monday, June 13, 2022 2:56 PM If you're a Sonic the Hedgehog fan, by the time you read this, it's highly likely that you have already developed a (possibly very strong) opinion about Sonic Frontiers, the upcoming open-world game starring everyone's favourite high-speed hedgehog and his pals. There's only so much we can say about the roughly 45 minutes we played at Summer Game Fest, but the bits we can talk about - and stay with me on this - sure feel like a Sonic spin on Elden Ring. The demo opens with Sonic emerging from a portal of some kind onto a dreary, rain-swept system of cliffs and meadows, dotted with mysterious stone ruins. Sonic is instructed, in accordance with tradition, to seek out the Chaos Emerald, at which point he's free to roam - or at least, free to experience a series of onboarding tutorials that teach the fundamentals of traversal and combat. During my session, I selected the 'fast controls' option, which Sonic Frontiers says is designed for players familiar with Sonic games. I played my fair share of Sonic 3: Sonic and Knuckles, I reason, and so obviously that'll be the scheme for me. This was a bit foolhardy, it turns out. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, June 13, 2022 7:33 PM The first piece of DLC for Resident Evil Village will release on October 28th, Capcom has announced. Revealed as part of their not E3 livestream, the Winter's Expansion will include three seperate additions to entice fans back into its world of tall vampire ladies and weird dog men. The first is Shadow Of Rose, a story expansion set after the events of the base game that focuses on Rose, the daughter of Village protagonist Ethan Winters. In an attempt to understand the origin of her mysterious "powers", Rose will enter the consciousness of the twisted mould that was the source of all the bother in both Biohazard and Village. Players will guide Rose through a number of spooky locales, including what appears to be Castle Dimetrescu from the game's main campaign. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Monday, June 13, 2022 7:11 PM When Capcom announced Exoprimal, an action game devised by your six-year-old self where players jump into badass exosuit and then machine-gun roiling hordes of dinosaurs, Alice0 believed that you fought the big lizard-birds with the help of an AI. In a new trailer and deep dive from tonight's Capcom Showcase we learned that in fact the dino-rain is happening because of the AI. It is running combat tests with humans by, er, opening huge wormholes in the sky and dumping hundreds of dinosaurs on us like so many plastic toys. If this concept sounds as incredible to you as it does to many of us in the RPS treehouse, then you can sign up for an upcoming closed network test here. Entry is open until the 30th of June, and to avoid disappointment make sure you take note of the entry requirements. |

Siliconera Monday, June 13, 2022 3:00 PM Beautiful puzzle games with brief, Kleenex-required storytelling seem to be everywhere these days. Somehow they all find their way into my gaming library one way or another. This time around, it's the Switch version of Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery. It's the story of two aspiring artists and the threads that connect them. Entranced by Behind the Frame's strong Studio Ghibli inspirations, I wondered if the game's trailer was truly representative of the game itself. Just a few minutes in and my jaw dropped. The transition from anime scenes to the interior of our artist's apartment is flawless. Every move has a real sense of living inside a Miyazaki masterpiece. From the soft color palette to the in-game artwork our mysterious woman is creating, it reinforces the fact that video games are indeed art. Starting off with just a couple of paints for our canvas, we need to find the missing colors in order to finish our pieces. Notes and clues are hidden inside our room. Thanks to the fluid 360 degree movement in the apartment, there's none of that push button to move nonsense that breaks the immersion. And when you do step into the kitchen to make eggs and toast for the third time or sit down to paint, it's not jarring. The same goes for the switch back to cutscenes from gameplay in Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery. I don't know that I've played a game that moved so well between video and gameplay in a long time. Most of the puzzles you're going to encounter in Behind the Frame require a keen eye and memory. But you don't need to worry too much; clues are readily available to reference from your notebook. Letters, sketches, and other notes that you have read all end up in here. The paintings are my favorite puzzles. Probably due to the way my unattractive blobs of paint magically transform into beautiful finished pieces. Some puzzles like the sunflower one above have a couple of steps. Once you locate all of the scraps and put the sketch back together, it reveals the answer to a locked box in your room. I dare say that not playing Behind the Frame until now has been a blessing in disguise for two reasons. First being that with the Nintendo Switch version, you can use the touchscreen to paint, sketch, and interact with items around the apartment. Sketching and writing is more of a rubbing-type situation but it feels much more satisfying than using an analog stick. Secondly, the console release also marked a free chapter update for the game on all platforms. Complete game experiences are ultimately a time and stress-saver in my book. Behind the Frame is such a gorgeous experience, one that if you have a few hours and are looking for a new puzzle game is well worth it. Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery is available now for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and mobile devices. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Monday, June 13, 2022 7:45 PM The Quarry is the latest offering from Supermassive Games, and it's available now on Steam. As someone who's played Until Dawn and covered past releases such as Man of Medan, Little Hope, and House of Ashes, this was right up my alley. However, while The Quarry has a lot of twists and turns, and even more gruesome deaths, it suffers from the same pitfalls as its predecessors. In fact, some of the issues are even more pronounced. Before we continue with our review, let me point out that I'll try my best to avoid major spoilers. Still, I'll add some tidbits about how the ending is presented, as well as some comparisons to previous titles. This one time at band camp The Quarry takes place in Hackett's Quarry Summer Camp.
