Kotaku Friday, April 21, 2023 4:20 PM The long-awaited, blood-soaked Dead Island 2 released today, and after almost a decade of waiting, I'm sure you have some questions. Kotaku Friday, April 21, 2023 1:05 PM Dead Island 2 is a zombie hack-and-slash with an unnecessarily mysterious past. PCGamesN Friday, April 21, 2023 4:01 PM What is the current and next Honkai Star Rail banner? Star Rail banners are where you can pull characters and items from. Much like the banners in Genshin Impact, another Hoyoverse game, the offerings in its gacha system change drastically. By issuing regular social media posts, you can earn free currency to use when pulling for new characters and weapons. Though we're still waiting on the Honkai Star Rail release date, there's an air of mystery surrounding whether Honkai Star Rail banners will work similarly. One difference we know of already compared to Genshin Impact is that, instead of wishes, Honkai Star Rail opts to call its gacha pulls 'Warps'. As a result, the characters featured in the banners will likely become contenders for the top ranks in our Honkai Star Rail tier list. They will most assuredly return in future banners for the free PC game once they finish their time in the spotlight, so make sure you check out the Honkai Star Rail codes guide once the game is live to see if there are any ways to get free Warps. PCGamesN Friday, April 21, 2023 2:22 PM The next Genshin Impact skins may be going to Klee and Kaeya if recent leaks are to be believed. It seems that HoYoverse could be adding skins for the Mondstadt natives in version 3.8, which would be right before we enter the anime game's next major region, Fontaine. The time between Genshin Impact outfit drops is usually much wider than this - a fact that some players take issue with - so these new ones are a nice surprise. PCGamesN Friday, April 21, 2023 12:17 PM Want to know about Dead Island 2 fast travel? While the main story of Dead Island 2 is somewhat linear, you need to return to previous locations in order to collect rare items and weapons and carry out side quests. That's where Dead Island 2 fast travel comes in. The Dead Island 2 map is a fair size. It's not the biggest by any means, but considering there are no driveable vehicles - unlike the first game in the series - Venice Beach to Hollywood Boulevard is a bloody long way to go on foot. PCGamesN Friday, April 21, 2023 12:23 PM Want to know more about the six Dead Island 2 slayers? The Dead Island 2 slayers are all new characters to the series, bringing a more current, youthful feel since the zombie game's debut over a decade ago. Each of these cool young things come with their own Dead Island 2 skills as well as a unique set of stats, so choosing one to match your RPG game playstyle will be essential to surviving the zombie apocalypse. The rich and famous of Hell-A have plenty of valuables strewn around their lavish homes, but the crème de la crème are typically locked up tight. Thankfully, a closed door is no match for your chosen slayer – all you need is a strong kick and a good guide. Unlike his safe key, Curtis' garage key can be located fairly early on in Dambuster's zombie game, during your very first stop at Sinclair's mansion. It also doesn't require you to go up against any fearsome zombies or bosses, though we would recommend brushing up on your Dead Island 2 skills regardless. Kirara is the first cat-girl to appear on the Genshin Impact roster, but most importantly, she's a four-star sword-wielding Dendro character. Judging by her leaked abilities, Kirara should work well as a support character, providing shields to her fellow party members. PCGamesN Friday, April 21, 2023 12:26 PM Want to find out more about the Dead Island 2 map? Dambuster's follow up to Techland's 2011 original Dead Island takes place across western LA, starting in Bel-Air and winding up on the Santa Monica coast. Unlike the first game, there are no vehicles, but the game covers a fair distance as you explore on foot. Dead Island 2 is a semi-open world game, so you can explore the world around you - within confined limits - at will. The map, sadly, doesn't reflect this very well as it's not the easiest to navigate, and you can only set waypoints to specific locations. Using your map, you can locate traders to buy Dead Island 2 fuses, set waypoints to workbenches to mod your weapons with blueprints and perks, and even track down certain Dead Island 2 zombies. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, April 21, 2023 1:00 PM Hello! Come on in. Please, take a seat. Welcome to the inaugural episode of our brand new (and currently untitled) supporter-first indie video show! Every month*, I'm going to be spending some time highlighting a cool indie game that deserves your attention. Think of this series as a supplement to Sin's Scout Report or our Indiescovery podcast. A brand new method for delivering piping hot recs from my desktop to yours. My aim is to use this series as a springboard to dive deep into specific elements of a game I find particularly fascinating, sharing my discoveries with you lot behind the paywall first (and don't worry, regular readers, I'll also be making each of these videos public for all to see after a month, which should roughly coincide with the the next one going live for supporters). In it, I'll be discussing some common themes between multiple games, digging into underappreciated gems from years gone by... The remit is broad and nebulous, to the point where it's clearly obvious why I haven't been able to come up with a name for it yet. (If you end up thinking of something, please do let me know in the comments. More than anything it'll stop me messaging Katharine a list of awful possibilites every other week, which I can only imagine is negatively effecting her feelings about me, the site and the endeavour of games journalism in general. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, April 21, 2023 12:46 PM I am once again spending a candidate for this year's Summer Strategy Game For When Brain Is Melt. Total Tank Generals is possibly the best introduction to wargames I've ever played, but to call it a light strategy game would feel like a disservice. If you're used to heavier fare this may still scratch the itch. It's not that it's particularly simple, but it feels so damn clean and effortless to play. You'll know what you're doing in minutes, but still find a decent challenge, with lots of options but minimal analysis paralysis. I'm honestly finding it hard to fault. |

Siliconera Friday, April 21, 2023 5:30 PM Among the many things you can strive to do on Final Fantasy XIV is to unlock mounts for easy and fashionable traveling across the maps. One such mount is a menacing machine called the Magitek Predator, which has been available since patch 4.0. There are two main ways players can acquire this mount. One is either by completing a Stormblood dungeon, and the other is by saving up tomestones during a FFXIV Moogle Treasure Trove event. To unlock the mount the traditional way, you will need the Magitek Predator Identification Key, which you can receive as a rare drop from completing Ala Mhigo, the last dungeon in the FFXIV Stormblood main questline. You may need to repeat this level 70 duty a number of times, since the odds of getting one is determined by RNG. To make your job easier, queue up for the duty with a group of friends and set an order of acquisition if needed. However, if repeating the same dungeon several times is not your ideal way to play FFXIV, you can try to get it via an Itinerant Moogle. The current Moogle Treasure Trove event running up to the launch of Patch 6.4 offers the Magitek Predator Identification Key as an exchangeable item. You will need 50 Irregular Tomestones of Mendacity to claim it, which can be obtained by playing PvP duties or completing a selective number of dungeons and raids. Once you have saved enough Irregular Tomestones of Mendacity, you can claim the item for the FFXIV Magitek Predator mount by talking to an Itinerant Moogle posted in Limsa Lominsa (X:9.4, Y:11.6), New Gridania (X:12.4, Y:12.1), or Ul'dah (X:9.6, Y:9.1). It should be noted that it is a market prohibited item, so you won't find it nor be able to sell it through the Marketboard. Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and the Moogle Treasure Trove event is up until the launch of patch 6.4. Siliconera Friday, April 21, 2023 5:00 PM Voltage is working on a new Switch otome game, and it is the Even if Tempest fandisk called Dawning Connections. The company announced it in both English and Japanese. This also included a Summer 2023 release window for both regions, key art of the bachelors, and trailers in both languages. First, here's how the fandisk's key art will look. From left to right, Lucien Neuschburn, Crius Castlerock, Zenn Sorfield, and Tyril I Lister. The heroine Anastasia Lynzel doesn't appear.
Here's the first trailer. It's under a minute and suggests that Even if Tempest: Drawing Connections could involve epilogues. Fandisks for Switch otome games such as these tend to involve side stories set after specific character's routes. The original Even if Tempest is not only an otome game, but is also something of an adventure and investigation game. Players must take part in trials and find a way to save the heroine's life and finding who wronged her while falling in love. Siliconera Friday, April 21, 2023 4:30 PM The Twitter account for Goddess of Victory: Nikke seems to have teased an upcoming collaboration between the game and NieR Automata. While the tweet did not straight up announce it, there is a short video in which the "Ni" in Nikke changes to the "Ni" from NieR Automata. Not only is the font the same, but there is also a gear replacing the dot on the "i." https://twitter.com/NIKKE_japan/status/1649380752164007936 The hashtag "Nikke half anniversary" is included in the tweet, which means that this collaboration might happen soon. As a reminder, Goddess of Victory: Nikke will celebrate its half-anniversary on April 27, 2023. So if it will reveal more details about the NieR Automata collaboration, that's likely around when we can expect it. Characters who will appear in the NieR Automata collaboration event in Nikke will likely be 2B and A2. They are the most prominent female characters in the game. In the actual NieR Automata game, the two fought using melee weapons and their ranged weapon option was their Pod. But they'll likely use guns in Nikke, much like how Power and Makima did even though they never really used guns in their native Chainsaw Man. Goddess of Victory: Nikke is readily available on Windows PCs and mobile devices. More information on the NieR Automata crossover event will come out soon. [Thanks, Famitsu!] These Street Fighter 6 headsets are Sony's INZONE H9 and the INZONE H7. The H9 has noise-canceling technology, and the H7 is just a standard wireless headset. The Street Fighter 6 INZONE H9 will cost 38,500 JPY (around $286.70), and the INZONE H7 will cost 22,000 JPY (around $168.85). Both of them are white, and the Ryu and Chun-Li designs are a golden yellow. It does not seem like the headsets are available on the North America Capcom or Sony stores. Since eCapcom does not offer international shipping, though, overseas customers will have to employ the use of a proxy service or wait to see if it'll appear in the west some time in the future. Street Fighter 6 will come out on June 2, 2023 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. The Sony INZONE H7 and INZONE H9 Street Fighter 6 headsets are available for pre-order via eCapcom and they'll also come out on June 2, 2023. Siliconera Friday, April 21, 2023 3:30 PM Even those unfamiliar with or new to the VTuber scene have likely heard of Hololive's Gawr Gura. The diminutive shark girl currently boasts over 4 million YouTube subscribers and appeared in mobile games and even briefly in a Taco Bell commercial. But for those who want to know more, here's the rundown on the Hololive VTuber, Gawr Gura. Originally debuting in 2020 as part of Hololive's first EN generation Myth, she was joined by Mori Calliope, Amelia Watson, Ninomae Ina'nis and Takanashi Kiara. Just a month after debut she reached a million subscribers, becoming the first English-language VTuber to do so. Eventually, she even surpassed industry pioneer Kizuna Ai in subscriber count. In late 2022 Gura announced a health-related break and although she has returned to active streaming, her schedule is more sporadic. She quickly became known for her singing, performing multiple karaoke streams and releasing two original songs. "Reflect" and "[Q]." The latter of which was a collaboration with gen-mate Calliope Mori and music producer DECO*27. Her passion for rhythm games also resulted in official collaborations with Groove Coaster: Wai Wai Party and Bang Dream! Girls Band Party. Horror games and Minecraft collaborations also appear frequently on her channel, along with one-off streams of a variety of games like Fifa 23 or Fortnite. Gura's original VTuber model was drawn by Amashiro Natsuki, who herself streams under the name Nachoneko. Gura has since gained three more outfits drawn by Amashiro: a casual outfit with cat ears, an atlantean dress and a new year's kimono. Her official 3D model debuted alongside her appearance in Hololive's animated skit series, Holo no Graffiti. Before that she made use of both a 2D and 3D model designed by community artist Walfie. You can watch the music video for her original song "Reflect" below: [embed]https://youtu.be/nCQ_zZIiGLA[/embed] You can find more videos from Gura on her Youtube channel here, and check for updates on her twitter here. Siliconera Friday, April 21, 2023 3:00 PM The days are getting longer and the weather is getting hotter, but Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly brings with it that sweater weather comfort. It is a slow-paced and comfy game that combines the visual novel and brewing simulator genres. As a game that mostly centers on its characters, it stands to reason that they're all very likable. For better and for worse, the strong writing really hammers home just how West Coast everyone is. The premise of Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly is more or less the same as the first game. You play as the owner of the cafe Coffee Talk, where beings both natural and supernatural gather and, well, talk. Each character has a very distinct personality and goal, with connections that they forget either throughout the course of the game or already had from the last one. I actually never played the first game, but I never felt lost on who everyone was. The game did a great job introducing everyone in a very natural way. New additions aside from more characters are the hibiscus and butterfly pea teas. Incidentally, adding normal milk to a tea with dried hibiscus in it IRL is absolutely horrible. I cringed until I realized I was making lattes in the game. [caption id="attachment_960214" align="aligncenter" width="1200"] Image via Toge Productions[/caption] Coffee Talk boasts beautiful pixel art and a wonderfully pleasing aesthetic, from the colors to the music. I unironically listen to this kind of "coffee shop music" sometimes when I work, so it was really easy to stay focused on the slow-paced story. The new "main" characters Lucas and Riona are really interesting from both a design and a narrative perspective. A little detail I liked was Officer Jorji making a dumb dad joke on the game's Twitter parallel, and Lucas (essentially a nice Paul brother) was the only person to like it. Jorji's posts don't tend to get a lot of likes compared to a lot of the other characters. So Lucas liking Jorji's bad joke endeared me to him after his somewhat rambunctious introduction. [caption id="attachment_960212" align="aligncenter" width="1200"] Image via Toge Productions[/caption] One of the main themes in Coffee Talk 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly is what we leave behind in our lives. Lucas and Hyde's plots in particular really center on this. To my memory, I don't believe I've consumed a piece of media that had this as a main focal theme. It's an interesting one, especially in our current day, to tackle and the game does a great job on linking this theme with the anxieties that a young adult faces as they enter society. Everything always moves so fast and there is always a need for more. I keep bringing up Lucas and I don't even like him that much. But his line, "What's the point of being born if nobody is going to remember us?" really resonated with me. What legacy—tangible or invisible, permanent or fleeting—do you suppose you'll leave in this world? Clearly, the characters are the main selling point of the game. After all, the only thing you really do in it is watch their interactions. But there's something really inorganic about the conversations. Everyone feels overly considerate to the point that they no longer feel realistic, even though the characters themselves are. They all have their good points and their flaws, and their problems are ones that are definitely relatable. But there is no tension in any of the arguments or troubles since the characters all talk to each other or you in a way that goes so out of the way to not hurt any feelings that it's unnatural. Or supernatural, I guess you could say. [caption id="attachment_960213" align="aligncenter" width="1200"] Image via Toge Productions[/caption] Jokes aside, it's pretty crazy how there is such a wide spectrum of personalities, yet everyone feels the same. This is because they almost all, barring vernacular and tone, talk in the same overly-sensitive manner. So the conversations can get a little monotonous, especially if you play multiple hours in one sitting. The lack of a common plot thread can add to that. While Hyde's issues of wanting a new job where he can make a mark (and have fun) can link up with Lucas's, it's a little hard to tell why we spend so much time with, say, Aqua and Myrtle. Silver and Amanda, despite their interesting premises, also kind of just faded into the background. So it sometimes feels like you're just reading a cute but ultimately "meaningless" short story. I suppose that's the true Seattle coffee shop experience though. [caption id="attachment_960211" align="aligncenter" width="1200"] Image via Toge Productions[/caption] Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly is a slow and comfy game with legitimately interesting subplots and a beautiful aesthetic. It's one that feels the most enjoyable in short bursts rather than a long marathon. For those who wish solely to experience the brewing factor, there are modes to experiment with the various ingredients and create drinks based on customer demands. There's not much of a time attack, so it feels very casual, much like the rest of the game itself. Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC. Siliconera Friday, April 21, 2023 1:00 PM Eric "Concerned Ape" Barone took to Twitter to share hand-drawn concept art of the Stardew Valley Community Center. The early image is from a journal and is drawn in pen. It focuses entirely on the Junimo, the spirits who appear in the center, and assist the player. Here's the official image. The text not only shows them, but what looks like an early Junimo hut. The text reads, "What do they do with the bundles? Maybe return them to their proper place for you or bring them to their hits. Then when you've completed a broad-goal, they bring out a glowing star and add it to the plaque." There's also an early description for them that says, "Nature spirits who took the C.C. as their home after it got abandoned. They leave after its complete."
In Stardew Valley, the Community Center is a driving force. People either visit it or the JojaMart Warehouse to complete objectives and earn rewards that alter the appearance of the world and grant rewards. For example, if you manage to get all of the 28 items for the various bundles in the center's Crafts Room, you can get access to the game's Quarry. As a reminder, more Stardew Valley is on the way. Concerned Ape confirmed a 1.6 patch is in development. It will feature both more modding support and additional content. Stardew Valley is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PCs, mobile devices, and the PlayStation Vita, and the 1.6 update is in development. Siliconera Friday, April 21, 2023 12:30 PM Riot Games expanded it's reach not only into television with its hit series Arcane, but also through the release of games spanning different genres. The Mageseeker - A League of Legends Story is one such game, as it stars Sylas of Dredgebourne and focuses on his mission to create a band of mages to overthrow the oppressive nation of Demacia. Those unfamiliar with the character may be wondering who is he, and what his importance in the world of Runeterra is exactly. One of the key political players, Sylas represents a shift in Runeterra as he stokes the fires of rebellion. Born in a lower quarter of Demacia, a shining city of white stone, Sylas lived among the lower class. When he began to show signs of being a mage, his parents surrendered him to the Mageseekers. The Mageseekers are an organization within Demacia that hunt mages down, imprisoning them due to the inherent distrust of magic due to the Rune Wars that happened some years prior. Sylas' talent involved being able to sense magic in other mages, and he was used to effectively sniff out his own kind. However, during an attempt to capture a young girl that had been revealed to be a mage, Sylas tried to intervene and learned that his ability to sense magic was not his only gift. By touching her, he was able to channel her magic through him which caused both the girl and his Mageseeker handler to die. Young and afraid, Sylas ran from the scene only to be apprehended and then imprisoned by the Mageseekers. There he was tortured and experimented on for years. Though fate had other plans for Sylas. Drawing the attention of Lux Crownsguard, sister to Garen Crownsguard, he was able to learn more about the stone shackles that bound him, and this specific stone's significance to Demacia. Bound in petricite, the shackles on his arms didn't only repress his natural affinity for magic, but stored the energy inside of it. But before Sylas could escape, he was sentenced to death. Here is where things get a bit muddled, since Riot Games has told this story over several mediums. Some canon states that Sylas was to be hung or to be beheaded. The official Lux comic series goes with the beheading, where the young mage Lux runs to his defense, only for him to reach out and touch her. Using her power he kills everyone present at the beheading, save for Lux, before he fights his way through the city in an attempt to assassinate the ruling monarch, Jarvan III. Sylas of Dredgebourne is one of several major characters in League of Legends from Demacia. And while his characterization and the details of his subsequent escape can sometimes be inconsistent, he's a character that has brought a massive shift into in-universe events. The Mageseeker - A League of Legends Story could potentially elaborate on what is next for Sylas, outside of a short story that has put him in the Freljord, as it focuses more on him gathering the necessary forces to fight back against Demacia and free mages living under the oppressive rule of the monarchy. League of Legends is immediately available for PCs. The Mageseeker - A League of Legends Story is on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
