Elden Ring DLC release date - latest on Shadow of the Erdtree

What is the Elden Ring DLC release date? We've been anticipating a follow-up expansion to FromSoftware's definitive soulslike since we first sat upon the throne and became the Elden Lord. Fortunately, the long wait is almost over, and the Shadow of the Erdtree looms large.

Elden Ring immediately secured a reputation as one of the best PC games of all time following its release in 2022. Since then, FromSoftware has been hard at work on the DLC, which sends the Tarnished into the Land of Shadow in pursuit of the Empyrean Miquella. Director Miyazaki estimates the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree map size is bigger than Limgrave, so there's plenty to discover in the DLC. Here's everything you need to know about the Shadow of the Erdtree release date and what awaits us in the Land of Shadow.

Skate 4 release date estimate, gameplay, and all the latest news

When is the Skate 4 release date? While we've seen plenty of early footage of Skate 4 already, EA's upcoming Skate revival is a rare case of a triple-A studio showing off very early in-development footage of a game. Though we've seen plenty of Skate 4, we can also clearly see it's not ready yet. It's already been over a decade since the last Skate game, so we can hold on a little longer.

The first Skate was among the most innovative skateboard games around, from its analog control scheme and semi open-world game structure to its more realistic, less edgy representation of the skating scene. The development team behind Skate 3 was disbanded after its release in 2010, and the series' community has been consistently bombarding EA message boards with questions about the series and its potential return ever since. Now, the team is very open about the development process for Skate 4, so here's what we know so far.

SSD capacity is set to explode in the near future, thanks to a new tech development from Western Digital. The company, often known as WD, unveiled an industry first at a recent investor's conference, showing off a high-capacity memory die that's dwarfed by a human fingertip.

At the moment, Western Digital is planning to target this tech at AI and data center environments, rather than the best SSDs for gaming, but it shows that high-capacity flash memory chips are already in development, and it's likely to be only a matter of time before we start seeing larger-capacity drives for desktop PCs as well.

The best office chairs can save your posture and make life more comfortable when working or playing for long periods. If, like me, you sit down for a larger part of the day and need the right chair to help your health, we've been trying and testing the top options to help you find the right one.

     Razer Iskur V2 review

The new Razer Iskur V2 gaming chair brings a host of tweaks and changes compared to the original Iskur, including a vastly-improved "6D" lumbar support system. Elsewhere, there are improvements to the seat design, headrest cushion, and more, resulting in a chair that's far superior to the original for overall comfort. It makes for a seat that's fit for a royal but comes at a princely price.

Sitting in the Razer Iskur V2 for the past several months, it's worked its way into the best gaming chairs I've had the pleasure of sitting in. Make no mistake, its lumbar support is no gimmick, and its construction is top tier. Comfort is king but there are some parts of the Iskur V2 that stop it from taking the throne outright.

The impenetrable wall of crossover fiction known as Kingdom Hearts has come to Steam. The games have been on Epic Games Store since 2021, so they're not new to PC folk. But this does open them up to players who shy away from Epic's storefront. I use the term "open up" loosely, because Kingdom Hearts is popularly regarded as a tangle of criss-crossing JRPG confuse-o-plots that require diagrams and multiple explainer videos to follow. I don't know if that's true, having never followed Alice down this Buster Sword-shaped rabbit hole, but it is the popular joke. And, looking into Goofy's cold, dead eyes, I find I am afraid to question it.

If there are two JRPG series that captivate me more than any others, one of them is absolutely The Legend of Heroes. Ever since I first played the iconic Trails in the Sky, I adored almost every entry in this series. Fortunately, if my recent demo experience is anything to go by, Trails through Daybreak feels like another win for Falcom and NIS America.

If you didn't know, a free Switch and PS4 demo is out right now for The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak. It comes with the ability to check out the prologue on Switch or all the way through the first chapter on PS4, with saves transferring to the full game. I checked out the latter for a quite hefty trial that lasted almost 10 hours.

Screenshot by Siliconera

While it may not be the best place to start the series as a newcomer, it is the closest in quite some time. Trails through Daybreak starts an entirely new arc in the previously unvisited nation of the Calvard Republic. Players take on the role of Van Arkride, a sort of charming rogue and morally gray version of a Bracer.

I already played all of Chapter 1 in Japanese while starting to learn the language, so it was fun to compare the localization. As always, the team is on point by including elements like great innuendos and timely jokes, though I will say the usually excellent English voice acting strangely feels like it took a dip in this installment. There are still some standouts, such as side character Marielle, but even some of the core cast may take some time to warm up to.

Outside of that, this already feels like another Falcom slam dunk. There is something to be said about how brilliant the developer's city and world design is. Trails through Daybreak is yet another testament to that with the capital city of Edith. Each of the districts feels so distinct due to the style and atmosphere. For example, there is the relaxed and brick-laden Riverside, found alongside the thriving and modern Central Station.

Exploring the city of Edith, completing Spriggan requests, and talking to the townsfolk just feels so natural. Better yet, there are even rural areas in Chapter 1 for a nice break from the hustle and bustle. This will all feel familiar to anyone who played the Crossbell or Erebonia Trails games. When it comes to combat though, this game actually radically changes this aspect.

Screenshot by Siliconera

The Trails through Daybreak features a fascinating and almost ground-breaking hybrid combat. The usual active turn-based system still exists. Here, players move around the battlefield on their turn, within a certain range, to execute an attack, skill, or craft.

However, you don't have to fight in turn-based mode if you don't want to. There is a simplistic hack-and-slash variant available as well. While not great for larger enemies or even possible in boss battles, this speeds up the combat even further. Better yet, the two even work in tandem. You can weaken a foe or even stun them in the action mode before switching to the usual turn-based affair to finish them off.

It is an engaging and fascinating system. While I would like more depth in the action combat, it works well enough, including even with a dodge mechanic. That said, outside of this, I am not a huge fan of the combat changes. The new system for link attacks is a bit awkward. Before, you would pick a partner to link with and they would follow up with additional attacks after a critical hit and all that.

However, this version limits links (called SLCMs) to being right next to someone. They are more flexible this way since Van, Agnes, and the others can link up with anyone at any time now. However, it somewhat felt like I was forced to go out of my way to move characters next to one another to gain a follow-up attack.

Screenshot by Siliconera

This new link system got especially annoying in boss battles. I felt like I had to move up my ranged characters like Agnes to be next to my melee fighter in Van. This put the ranged characters in more unnecessary danger just for a linked combo. It is strange since it wasn't like this in past games.

Outside of that, though, this is by far the most fluid and fast the turn-based combat has been in the series. I was blasting through most fights in well under a minute with almost no issue. Even the trickier and lengthier boss fights felt much more manageable in terms of time now.

When not in dungeons, players have the ability to complete various Spriggan requests. These are similar to the side quests and Bracer requests from past games but with a twist. Van is a much shadier person than past protagonists like Rean and Lloyd, and it shows in his requests.

He has an alignment system revolving around Law, Chaos, and Gray. Each request he does adds points to each one. In addition, there are the occasional choices you can make that level up Van's Law, Chaos, and Gray attributes. Most notably, these all level up independently, and each come with special rewards. While I know how these affect the later game from my time with the Japanese version, I won't go into that here. Regardless, this system adds an intriguing layer and makes the already well-written side quests that much more worth checking out. They are just as essential to the world and characters as the core plot.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak demo preview
Screenshot by Siliconera

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak feels like another must-play JRPG from Falcom, based on the demo preview. It is almost a solid starting point for newcomers with an almost entirely fresh cast of characters. It also takes place in the new locale of the Calvard Republic, which is already gorgeous and varied from the places I visited in the prologue and first chapter. The mix of action and turn-based combat is such a welcome move. Anyone who likes past Trails games or just JRPGs in general should check out the free demo ahead of launch.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak will release for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC on July 5, 2024. A free demo is available right now for Switch and PS4.

See FFXIV Dawntrail Allagan Tomestone of Heliometry Gear equipment

When the Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer Live LXXXII got to System Adjustments, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida and Square Enix General Manager of Community & Service Division Toshio "Foxclon" Murouchi went over the new FFXIV Allagan Tomestones of Heliometry and the equipment and gear people can get from them. In total, Yoshida revealed nine of the new sets people can get to wear or even use as glamour.

Previously, Square Enix went over how the Allagan Tomestones of Causality and Comedy would be leaving, and the Allagan Tomestones of Aesthetics and Heliometry will appear following FFXIV Dawntrail for new gear and equipment. The Aesthetics ones will be immediately available after 7.0. However, the Heliometry ones won't show up until 7.05.

After discussing the additions, Yoshida shared images of some of the equipment FFXIV Dawntrail players will be able to get when they exchange Allagan Tomestones of Heliometry for gear. Nine pieces of art were shared, showing things for folks like Black Mages, Dragoons, Pictomancers, and Reapers.

Other topics came up other than Allagan Tomestones during the System Adjustments portion of the discussion. People will be able to hold 1,500 Bicolor Gemstones, instead of only 1,000. The Duty List will also show emotes and delivery item recipes. Glasses will be categorized as facewear going forward too.

You will be able to hide nearby players when near an NPC or item with quest icon, with default, when near quest NPCs, or when interacting with quest NPCs as options. Your party member allies will be able to be shown as an option, but any friends in your party won't be shown. A slide showed the three options in action.

Image via Square Enix

Yoshida also spoke a lot about the dyeing adjustments. These will let you have two on one piece of gear, and there will be more items that support that option. The 7.0 and beyond equipment will all support two dye slots. Greater support may not come until 7.04. You can also set "favored dye" or "previously applied dyes" as an option. Yoshida said this could apply to setting a favorite color as a "saved" favorite.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Dawntrail expansion will arrive on July 2, 2024

FFXIV Dawntrail Cenote Ja Ja Gural Treasure Dungeon Revealed

After discussing the new The Arcadion Raid Series in the Letter from the Producer Live LXXXII, Producer Naoki Yoshida and Global Community Producer Toshio "Foxclon" Murouchi confirmed that a new Treasure Dungeon will be added to the FFXIV Dawntrail expansion. The title of this new Treasure Dungeon is Cenote Ja Ja Gural, and it will be introduced with Patch 7.05.

The term "cenote" comes from Latin American Spanish, and Yoshida said it describes a natural pit where water sinks into and creates underground ponds. Some underground ruins can be seen in the first of the two screenshots shared. Above them, light pours from a natural opening to the surface, where trees and jungle vines fall down.

Meanwhile, the second screenshot shows a golden palace or golden ruin, located close to the aforementioned opening to the surface. Additionally, bright pink blossoms are located near the entrance of the palace. Yoshida said that the new FFXIV graphical update has increased the level of shine and polish to these golden surfaces, adding more fidelity to the upcoming Treasure Dungeon.

You can take a better look at the new FFXIV Dawntrail Treasure Dungeon Cenote Ja Ja Gural here:

Final Fantasy XIV is readily available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Dawntrail expansion will arrive on July 2, 2024. The new Treasure Dungeon will appear as part of Patch 7.05.

Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail Raid Series Called The Arcadion

After a brief Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer Live LXXXII break, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida and Square Enix General Manager of Community & Service Division Toshio "Foxclon" Murouchi returned to discuss the new FFXIV Dawntrail Raid series The Arcadion. While they didn't show too much, for the sake of spoilers, they did discuss a bit about the Raid series starting in 7.01.

First, The Arcadion will be a new eight-person Raid series in Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail. When showing the splash art for it, Yoshida noted they'd heard how many people said the designs resembled graphics cards. He and Foxclon joked about fans and the load. They also confirmed that there is a storyline to this new series. The Arcadion: ??? will be a part of the 7.01 patch, and its Savage version will arrive in 7.05. The two also joked that people may have noticed the Duty list revealed its full name, though they left it as ??? during the announcement to leave it as a surprise for viewers.

A clip from the boss fight appeared. It seems like it takes place in an arena. Ads appear around the edges, which will change as you go through the battle. An announcer offers narration during this segment. Also, the boss will talk during the fight.

Here's the video clip Square Enix shared on social media, so we can get a better look at the fight:

Volks did not provide the full dimensions for each doll, but it did note that it will focus on the dolls' attires and heads. There will be even more attention to detail for the latter, as the company will produce a unique wig and head for each character.

Here are the sample images of the dolls:

Volks will close the pre-order period for the Final Fantasy XIV Dollfie Dream Sister dolls of Alphinaud and Alisaie on August 12, 2024. See the FFXIV Dawntrail New Dungeons and Trials Details

After detailing the new Role Quests in the Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer Live LXXXII, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida and Global Community Producer Foxclon showed some of the new dungeons being introduced with the FFXIV Dawntrail expansion, as well as a new trial.

During the livestream Yoshida said that players can expect the main dungeons that are tied to the Main Scenario Quests of Dawntrail to be accessible to players even if they are not fully optimized and at the maximum 100 level cap, since they are part of the main story. However, regarding endgame content and expert dungeons, players will need to be prepared for them, as the developers want this content to be a fun challenge.

While it is not the official name, Yoshida said that the first one they call Jungle Cruise internally. For the second dungeon the environment seems to be at high altitude and with thin air. It will be great for screenshots. Underground ruins with pools of water, feels very representative of what a "dungeon" is.

They were very meticulous about the details, colors, and environments for the new FFXIV Dawntrail dungeons, in order to transmit a sense of lived history. Foxclon mentioned that these dungeons will have lots of booby traps and dangers lurking around the corner. However, they didn't go into details about these to avoid spoilers.

The final dungeon that the developers showed looked completely different to the ruins and buildings of Tural, being a high-tech environment full of lasers and a bright red hue. Yoshida joked that the environment looked apt for Darth Maul, and this is the second time he joked about the character, having previously mentioned him in reference to the new Viper job during the previous livestream.

You can check out the new dungeons here:

Next, the developers introduced and gave a quick look at a new trial that will be introduced in FFXIV Dawntrail with the 7.0 patch. The trial featured the legendary Valigarmanda beast of Tural. The stage for the battle is set high atop a tall stone pillar, with mountains and other pillars being seen in the distance. During the short battle showcase, Yoshi-P used a Black Mage job against Valigarmanda. The beast used attacks with fire and wind visuals, as well as using its talons to knock the character off the stage.

You can check out a short clip of Yoshi-P fighting Valigarmanda in the upcoming FFXIV Dawntrail trial here:

New FFXIV Disciples of the Hand and Land Quests Involve Pelupelu

After discussing the 7.0 Final Fantasy XIV Role Quests, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida and Square Enix General Manager of Community & Service Division Toshio "Foxclon" Murouchi brought up the FFXIV Dawntrail Disciples of the Hand and Land Quests in the Letter from the Producer Live LXXXII. In this installment, they'll be tied to the Pelupelu race found on Tural.

All of the new FFXIV Dawntrail Disciples of the Hand and Land Quests involve Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries. These are tied to the Pelupelu, partially. Yoshida also noted its name is an onomatopoeia and from the Pelupelu's language to refer to a necklace made of "precious stones." There will be five questlines present. One is for the Armorers, Blacksmiths, and Goldsmiths. Another is for Carpenters, Leatherworkers, and Weavers. The third is for Alchemists and Culinarians. The fourth is for Botanists and Miners. Finally, Fishers have their own questline. In or after update 7.1, there will be new ones added for anyone who finished all five of the 7.0 Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries.

The FFXIV Dawntrail Disciples of the Hand and Land Quests discussion came immediately after the new Role Quests reveals. That involved new peeks at gear people can get, unlock information, and hints about the ones coming for the new Pictomancer and Viper jobs.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Dawntrail expansion will arrive on July 2, 2024

FFXIV Dawntrail Main Characters Cast Detailed

During the latest FFXIV Letter from the Producer LIVE LXXXII, Producer and Director Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida and Global Community Producer Toshio "Foxclon" Murouchi introduced the main cast of characters that will appear in the upcoming FFXIV Dawntrail expansion. While some are returning, others are entirely new.

As previously shown, Wuk Lamat is a member of the ruling family of Tural. She is childhood friends with Erenville, who helped her recruit the Warrior of Light to assist her in the rite of succession so that she can maintain peace within the nation. Erenville originally made his debut in the Endwalker expansion, but the development team was excited for the character and decided to bring him back.

Krile is a character that received a Job change for the upcoming FFXIV Dawntrail expansion, becoming a Pictomancer. Krile decides to go to Tural in order to uncover the truth behind her grandfather Galuf's death. Thancred and Urianger will team up in the upcoming expansion in their journey to Tural. However, their path might differ from that of the Warrior of Light and their companions.

The Dawnservant Gulool Ja Ja is a two-headed Mamool Ja, and the founder and current ruler of the nation of Tuliyollal. Because of his two heads, Gulool Ja Ja has two different personalities, and even two different voice actors, one for each head. One of them has a keen interest in combat and martial arts, while the other one is closer to a scholar, having an interested in studying and acquiring knowledge. They are also known as the Vow of Resolve and Vow of Reason.

Zoraal Ja is known as the First Promise of Tuliyollal, and Yoshi-P described him as akin to a sibling to Wuk Lamat. He is one of the candidates in the rite of succession, so he will fulfill a rival role to Wuk Lamat and the Warrior of Light. Another rival in the rite of succession, Koana is an adopted son to the ruling class of Tuliyollal and he believes in technology and innovation as the key to rule.

Bakool Ja Ja is another two-headed Mamool Ja. He earned the right to participate in the rite of succession after finding success in a martial tournament. Because two-headed Mamool Ja are relatively rare, this played a part in him becoming eligible for the rite of succession. Finally, the Enigmatic Maiden was revealed in the Dawntrail launch trailer, but the developers didn't give much information about her. Additionally, Alphinaud and Alisaie will appear alongside other characters. However, they received a minor mention in comparison to the rest of the cast seen above.

You can check out the character profiles in more detail here:
