If you think your internet speed is fast, it pales in comparison to what has been achieved by a research team in Japan. Hailing from the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, this team just used standard fiber optic cables to produce a speed so astounding that it genuinely seems unbelievable.

Even if you had the best gaming router, there is no way to make commercial use of the 402 million Mbps, or 402Tbps, achieved by these engineers. We've come a long way since the days of dial-up, but we're not quite ready for what this team has accomplished.

The best submarine games on PC 2024

What are the best submarine games on PC? Submarine simulator games were reasonably popular back in the '90s, but if you're looking for new submarine games, your options are much more limited. If you're willing to go through all the hassle of making some of those '90s classics like Silent Hunter, Silent Service, and Aces of the Deep run on a modern PC, then power to you.

Submarine games come in a few different shapes and forms, with some aiming to replicate the minutiae of everyday operations on a military vessel. Meanwhile, others focus on stalking battleships and landing the perfect torpedo strike. Join us as we list some of the best submarine games you can play right now, from free PC games, to early access FTL-likes.

Zenless Zone Zero's city is the best character you never have to pull

HoYoverse is no stranger to constructing cities that leave a lasting impression. From the quasi-Bavarian streets of Genshin Impact's Mondstadt to Honkai Star Rail's Huizhou-inspired Xianzhou Luofu, each has its own culture and real-world influence. That said, these hub areas follow the blueprint of most open-world games. They might serve as the setting for questlines to unfold, but for the most part, they are static sandboxes, with topographies and vendors that remain reliably unchanged. You might drop by periodically for the sake of a quest or an upgrade, but you aren't meant to stay and live there. The adventure is outside their borders, in the great outdoors and the galaxies beyond. In Zenless Zone Zero, however, the city is the player's universe.

     Charmingly

Glitches make the best videogame moments. Everyone looks back fondly on the open-world bugs in the early GTA games and the Hunter grabbing you through a wall in Left 4 Dead, but most games don't truly embrace the jank. Videogames not working as they should is too often seen as a negative but as The Long Drive continues to prove - as it soars on Steam - jank can make a good game great.

Zenless Zone Zero banners - next, current, and 1.0 banners

What are the Zenless Zone Zero banners? If you're looking to expand your roster of playable agents, then wishing on banners is your best bet. These digital gacha machines form the basis of developer HoYoverse's monetization strategy, and they should be instantly familiar to anyone who's dipped into Genshin Impact or Honkai Star Rail.

Zenless Zone Zero includes several event banners that offer the chance to pull characters, weapons, and Bangboo. Banners rotate regularly, so it's important to think strategically about whether to spend your ZZZ Film on the current banner, or hold off until the next one. The ZZZ 1.0 banners coincide with the Zenless Zone Zero release date, so get set to start spending in HoYoverse's urban gacha game. Here's who you can pull in Zenless Zone Zero banners.

Microsoft keeps making it harder to use local accounts with Windows 11

If you've set up a Windows PC recently, you'll know that the process includes logging into or creating a Microsoft account. Where once you could push on with just a local profile created, Microsoft is now making it harder for this to be done, now going as far as to remove an online help page explaining how to switch from an online account to a locally stored profile.

The need for an online Microsoft Account to do pretty much anything is becoming a bitter trend with Windows 11, and this latest development makes it hard to argue that the endgame is anything other than no local users being created for Windows devices with an active internet connection.

Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Wildlands is exploding on Steam right now

Structurally and substantially, Ghost Recon Wildlands and its sequel, Breakpoint, are very similar to the other Ubisoft open-world monoliths. Like Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, and to a lesser extent The Division, you're free to explore a gigantic map. It's split into counties and biomes, and your job is to take them over one by one, eliminating a series of lieutenants and captains as you kill your way to the top of a criminal empire. But the Ghost Recon reboots have one unique, brilliant central idea. Years after they launched, they're suddenly surging on Steam and available cheaper than ever - if you never tried Ghost Recon Wildlands or Breakpoint before, now is definitely the time.

When is the InZOI release date? The 'next-gen' life sim is the latest in Krafton's stable, and it's got the life sim community all a-flutter. InZOI joins Sims 4 competitors Life by You and Paralives in their efforts to unseat EA's genre-defining giant from its throne, though it appears to be striking in a very different direction from its peers. Instead of limitless customization or a stylized dream house, InZOI aims to turn heads with photorealistic visuals – a real first for life games. Do we have a Sims rival on our hands? 2001 was an unusual year for FPS games. Corridor shooters of the kind pioneered by Doom, Quake, and the original Half-Life seemed to leave vogue, and instead it was Halo, its larger-scale battlefields, and its heightened sense of 'realism' that came to define the genre. Between these two epochs - the freewheeling '90s and the more serious '00s - lies Return to Castle Wolfenstein. We've all seen it. The little spinning symbol cautioning players against impatient acts of powering down. "Don't turn off your system when this symbol is displayed," goes the message seen often while booting up a game (or some other version of these words). The implication is clear. The saving process is delicate and if you interrupt this invisible ritual the data that's being written to some folder deep in your PC's innards will become corrupted, wrecked, banjaxed. You will lose all your progress, all your precious swords and accomplishments.

But is this true? How likely are you to really suffer a catastrophic loss of shotgun shells? To find out, I decided to spend a very annoying afternoon of turning my gaming rig off and on again during multiple games. Was this a good idea? I don't know. I'm a gamer, not an ideas man.

First, here's the announcement that confirmed the series' popularity when it came to Netflix views.

https://twitter.com/Eiichiro_Staff/status/1807761088748150853

As for the video, it begins with Inaki Godoy in a car, asking Siri how to get to South Africa. (Godoy plays Monkey D. Luffy.) The country is where both season 1 and 2 of the One Piece live-action adaptation is filmed. We then see Godoy in airports as he heads to Cape Town and the Going Merry. After that, we see Mackenyu, who plays Roronoa Zoro, fly out to reunite with him. Emily Rudd, who is Nami, heads out from an airport to join them. Finally, they're joined by Jacob "Usopp"Romero and Taz "Sanji" Skylar. It ends by confirming production is started, but doesn't include any teases for other cast members.

Review: Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Felt Better on the 3DS

When you have a handheld installment in a series, especially when its a less powerful platform than its counterpart or it involves a unique gimmick, it can be easier to accept accommodations or quirks. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is a good example. You could accept the approach to castle exploration and certain design decisions because, well, that's what Next Level Games had to do to get it to run on the 3DS. While I appreciated seeing Luigi's Mansion 2 HD again on the Switch, the new platform made some of the earlier inconveniences more difficult to bear.

Professor E. Gadd, now famous for his ghostly research, was working peacefully alongside the spectral counterparts in Evershade Valley. It was all thanks to the Dark Moon hanging in the sky. However, after it is shattered by King Boo, all of the ghosts turn hostile. E. Gadd (forcibly) call in Luigi to head into five locations in the valley to collect the ghosts and Dark Moon fragments.

Image via Nintendo

The general gameplay for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD isn't markedly different from the other entries in the series. After reclaiming the Poltergust 5000 and Strobulb from the Gloomy Manor, you can get to work stunning ghosts with lights so you can suck them up, triggering switches or other puzzles with light. The Dark-Light Device also involves revealing hidden objects. So you're still searching for ghosts, trying to get through dilapidated buildings, and also collecting treasures to upgrade your equipment or repair the valley's moon.

What makes Luigi's Mansion 2 HD feel a bit dated and occasionally out of place is the structure. Both the first and third entries in the series involved a more open approach. Luigi could explore the locations as you saw fit, progressing deeper through locales. You could take your time with things. The penalties for facing ghosts didn't feel terribly drastic. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon adopted a mission-based approach. So you aren't just going through one whole manor as you see fit, tackling all of its tasks in a leisurely way and going back and forth between them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa-hdjL9I5A&ab_channel=NintendoofAmerica

You pick a quest. You go in and accomplish it. E. Gadd plucks you out again. While the general idea is still fun, it hurts the immersion a bit. It was more than fine for the 3DS too, since we were dealing with smaller screens, potential battery life issues, and maybe even going to the handheld for shorter play sessions. Given since the Switch already is home to the exceptional and perfectly paced Luigi's Mansion 3, I felt it made the pitfalls of this format stand out.

This isn't to say it isn't fun! Perhaps that's why it can feel like an issue. The different types of places Luigi goes on his journey to restore the Dark Moon are all quite varied. There are some challenging ghosts to fight, forcing you to think strategically when trying to approach them, stun them with the light, and suck them up. It requires thought and is enjoyable. So when you can't just keep going and need to report in to E. Gadd after doing when you came there to, it's like your mom calling you inside to play when you know your friends (or in this case more ghosts) are waiting for you.

Image via Nintendo

The other issue stems from a similar issue. There aren't checkpoints during missions in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Tantalus and Nintendo didn't add them for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. It's fine. I mean, this is clearly defined as an HD remaster, after all. However, once you get to the latter third or fourth of the game, there are some missions and situations where that kind of accommodation would have been helpful.

However, I will say that Luigi's Mansion 2 HD both looks great and I enjoyed the ScareScraper multiplayer mode a bit more this time around. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon was a really vibrant and expressive game the first time around, especially when it came to Luigi and Polterpup's expressions and animations. That remains unchanged here, though I will say you can tell from the textures and designs that it started as a 3DS game and not, say, a console one. As for the ScareScraper, which involves four people working to catch ghosts either in set blocks with certain difficulties or endlessly as it gradually grows more challenging, it felt easier to play and like I had a better time. Perhaps that's due to a wider multiplayer pool at launch? Maybe! I just know I had a better time going through it together, though I did prefer the newer Luigi's Mansion 3 take on it with its additional goals.

I suppose what really hurts Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is that Luigi's Mansion 3 is on the Switch and feels like the definitive entry in the series. It's great to be able to go back to the earlier installment on the system. Especially since it is fun for what it is. It's still enjoyable, and it looks great. I suppose my only regret is that the format of it felt better on the 3DS, and the limits of the more mission-based approach are more strongly felt on this console.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is available on the Nintendo Switch. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is available on the Nintendo 3DS

Sega hiring staff to help make new online Crazy Taxi game

Sega announced that it is hiring new staff members into the Crazy Taxi development team. The company also published a new webpage and video that reveal more details on the new game.

Crazy Taxi was one of the five classic games that Sega will produce new games of, as it had revealed at The Game Awards 2023. The brief gameplay footage from the first trailer showed multiple players driving taxis all around the city, with one of them driving a police car instead.

Kenji Kanno confirmed in the new interview video that instead of a remake of the original single-player game, his team will produce a new online-based multiplayer game. On the actual recruitment web pages, Sega also branded the new Crazy Taxi entry as a "new major online title."

The pages for the programmer and modeler jobs also give several hints on the new game's development platforms. Kenji Kanno's team will use Unreal Engine 5—including the Niagara VFX System—to produce the new Crazy Taxi game. The team will also use Maya and Houdini to create models and animations for the game.

The ten job openings that Sega has opened are as follows:

  1. Lead Game Designer
  2. Client Programmer
  3. Background Modeler
  4. Car & Prop Modeler
  5. Character Modeler
  6. Concept Artist
  7. Effect Designer
  8. Project Manager
  9. Map / Level Designer
  10. Overall Game Designer

The interview video with Kenji Kanno and other existing members of the Crazy Taxi development team is also available to watch on Sega's Japanese YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLQsitFYpg8

The new Crazy Taxi game for consoles is undergoing development at Sega. The company has still yet to announce the formal title, release window, and platforms for the new online multiplayer-focused game.

Heavenrend Closed, Vtubers Haruna Swift and Rurumi Yumemi Graduate

Heavenrend, a Vtuber agency in the US, announced that it will close following the graduation of its two remaing members Haruna Swift and Rurumi Yumemi. It will shut down on July 15, 2024.

Here is Heavenrend's closure notice:

https://twitter.com/heavenrendtv/status/1807219015481545179

This means the agency will remain open for the two Vtubers' final streams. Rurumi will graduate first on July 13, 2024. She didn't offer an explanation for her decision to stop streaming. However, in her final message she did express thanks for her fans and people she worked with. She also confirmed she will hold one last stream on her graduation date. A schedule for her activities from July 1-7, 2024 appeared on her social media account.

https://twitter.com/RurumiYumemi/status/1807227065797898637

Haruna will graduate on July 14, 2024, and she shared a four-page graduation letter on her social media account. In it, she went over her struggles with mental health and as a Vtuber, while also expressing thanks for those who supported her both at the company and online. She clarified that while her VODs will remain, her social media, Twitch, and X will become inactive and the Heavenrend Discord will close. She didn't post a schedule like Rurumi did, as back in December 2023 she mentioned taking a break from that.

The Vtuber agency Heavenrend consisted of four performers. In addition to Haruna Swift and Rurumi Yumemi, Juliet Winters and Km0d0 were a part of the company. Km0d0 graduated back in February 2022, before Rurumi debuted in June 2022. Juliet later left in October 2022.

Elden Ring Movie

Author George RR Martin commented on the rumors of a tv show or movie based on the world of Elden Ring, which Martin helped create the setting for, in his official blog. The quote itself is fairly inconclusive, but does suggest that there is some kind of project in motion.

The comment came from a post in which he also discusses his wins and losses at recent awards ceremonies. Martin segued into Elden Ring by mentioning that he recently received his trophy from the 2023 Nebula awards, which he won for his work on the game alongside developers FromSoftware and director Hidetaka Miyazaki. It is then that he talked about the rumors.

Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on ELDEN RINGI have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?

George RR Martin

While, literally speaking, the comment is a denial of any knowledge of such a project, Martin plays it up so much it's hard not to read it ironically. Even so, there's not much to glean from the statement other than there may be an Elden Ring movie, tv show, or other project in the works somewhere, likely with his involvement.

As for the game itself, some PC players of Elden Ring were recently hit by a bug that caused the game to mistakenly detect "inappropriate activity." Bandai Namco acknowledged it and offered a means of working around it. Studio SO-TA has also revealed a line of capsule and box toys based on the game's Living Jars.

Elden Ring and its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion are readily available on the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

On the last day of A-chan being with hololive, the Holo no Graffiti HoloGra episode focused on her and her departure.

Friend A, better known as A-chan, "graduated" as a hololive employee in June 2024, and the latest Holo no Graffiti HoloGra anime episode starred her. The June 30, 2024 episode focused on the staff member's last day with the company and the Vtubers' requests to have her hang around to help finish their tasks.

The A-chan HoloGra anime episode begins with her finishing up on her last day with the company. She seems to have finished right on time, instead of having to deal with overtime. However, Tokino Sora, Houshou Marine, Shirogane Noel, Hakui Koyori, and others keep pursuing her for help.

Here's the full Holo no Graffiti HoloGra anime episode "Thanks for Having Me."

This isn't the only Friend A video that appeared to send A-chan off as she left hololive, as a "Shiny Smily Story" video highlighting her appearances in hololive streams and in other HoloGra anime episodes came up. Tokino Sora, who was the reason A-chan joined cover, also appeared to say goodbye.

Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative Remasters Join Switch Library in July

Back in December 2023, we learned that Muv-Luv Remastered and Muv-Luv Alternative Remastered would come to the Nintendo Switch in Japan in March 2024. Now, we know they'll head to the eShop outside Japan both individually and in a double pack together on July 11, 2024.

Depending on the version or bundle, the price changes. The original Muv-Luv Remastered is $29.99. However, at launch it is $26.99. Muv-Luv Alternative is slightly more expensive, as it costs $39.99. A launch discount drops that price to $35.99. Buying the two games together at once is slightly cheaper, as that double pack is $64.99. The launch sale makes the pair $58.49.

The original Muv-Luv is a fairly typical visual novel with romance elements and starts off mostly normal enough. Takeru is going through his normal life, when a young woman named Meiya shows up and moves in with him and starts attending his school. He essentially ends up split between her and his childhood friend Sumika.

However, in Muv-Luv Alternative things drastically change. He wakes up one day to find himself in a version of the world where aliens are invading, and the friends and love interests he remembers from the original game are all working to fight against them. This installment ended up also inspiring an anime adaptation, which is streaming on Crunchyroll as of time of writing.

Muv-Luv Remastered and Muv-Luv Alternative Remastered will come to the Nintendo Switch on July 11, 2024 worldwide, following a Japanese release in March 2024. The games are also on the PlayStation Vita and PC worldwide, as well as the PS3, Xbox 360, and mobile devices in Japan. Project Mikhail: A Muv-Luv War Story is on PCs, but its Switch version hasn't appeared.

Mega Man X DiVE western mobile version

NebulaJoy announced that it will end service for the Western mobile version of Mega Man X DiVE on July 30, 2024. The free-to-play game has been available in its original form for a longer period in the Americas and Europe, but that is coming to an end as well.

The Western release lasted longer than the original Eastern mobile release because different companies handled the game in each region. While Capcom managed the mobile game in Asia including Japan, NebulaJoy launched the official English version in August 2021.

Even when Capcom shut down the Asian mobile releases and launched an offline version of Mega Man X DiVE in 2023, NebulaJoy still retained the Western server for a longer time. But as the latter has confirmed its closure at the end of July 2024, the Western version would not survive long enough to mark its third anniversary.

NebulaJoy's announcement tweet on the game's official X account is also available to view right below:

https://twitter.com/MEGAMANXDiVEMO1/status/1807593174681932074

The Western mobile release of Mega Man X DiVE is available for Android and iOS devices in the Americas and Europe until July 30, 2024. People worldwide can still play the game via Mega Man X DiVE Offline, which had the gacha features and energy restrictions removed, and it is readily available worldwide on PC and mobile devices.

Let's hope they're free at least, as they are looking like a strong faction. GSK members in XDefiant The three GSG 9 members we'll have represented in XDefiant's GSK ...

Bosses Level Guide Shadow Of The ErdtreeWith such a huge amount of new bosses and locations added in Shadow of The Erdtree, it can be a little confusing working out what level to take them on. Like most FromSoftware games, the map can be navigated in pretty much any order, but this is my take on how you should approach all the bosses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. Best order to fight the bosses in Shadow of The Erdtree: Recommended level, explained This is how I went about tackling the various bosses in the Elden Ring DLC. I found the levelling of each was about right for me, and although I struggled, I knew it was a skill issue rather than a level one. How to fight as Wuk Lamat in FFXIV Dawntrail Shortly after beating the second Dungeon, you're tasked with fighting Bakool Ja Ja The Mighty. Screenshot: PC Invasion I've labeled all six of Wuk Lamat's Skills in the image above, and here's what they do: #1 Tail of the Br'aax combo: Basic combo attack, which grants a small healing burst on the third hit. #2 Turali Judgment combo: Basic attack combo, although it doesn't give healing. #3 Luwatena Pulse: Increases maximum HP and provides heal...

I recently got an extended preview of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess at Capcom. The game feels like a throwback to older Capcom games with its unique action strategy and characters. During my playthrough, I continued from where I left off at Summer Game Fest. As the game progressed, I discovered the core loop of […]
